General Situation

A trough of low pressure is bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong. Locally, heavy rain this morning and in the afternoon brought more than 50 millimetres of rainfall to many places, and rainfall even exceeded 70 millimetres over the western part of Hong Kong Island.

Forecast Description

Cloudy with showers and squally thunderstorms. Showers will be heavy at times. Temperatures will range between 22 and 26 degrees tomorrow. Moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, occasionally strong on high ground.
Showers and squally thunderstorms on Tuesday. Showers will be heavy at times. The weather will still be unsettled with occasional showers and thunderstorms in the middle and latter parts of this week.

Intense gusts may continue to affect Hong Kong. Seek safe shelter as soon as possible if you are staying outdoors. Intense gusts exceeding 70 kilometres per hour were recorded at Tai O at around 5:30 p.m.

Weather Warning Information

Thunderstorm Warning issued at 8:40 a.m. on 21 Apr 2024 will remain in force until 7:00 p.m. today. Squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong.
Intense gusts exceeding 70 kilometres per hour were recorded at Tai O at around 5:30 p.m.
Intense gusts reaching 80 kilometres per hour or above may continue to affect Hong Kong.
Members of the public are advised to take the following precautions when thunderstorms occur:
1. Seek safe shelter as soon as possible if you are staying outdoors.
2. Leave the water. Do not swim outdoors or engage in other outdoor water sports.
3. Do not stand on high grounds. Keep away from highly conductive objects, trees or masts.
4. Take precautions against intense gusts. Beware of flying debris and falling objects.
5. Drivers using highways and flyovers should reduce speed to be alert to intense gusts.
