Biden’s hypocritical message to press on not picking sides at correspondents’ dinner

President Biden called on the press to “rise up to the seriousness of the moment” on Saturday at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and said that, while he wasn’t calling on the media to take sides, he wanted reporters to “focus on what’s actually at stake.”

“I’m sincerely not asking you to take sides, but asking you to rise up to the seriousness of the moment,” Biden told the press.

“Move past the horse race numbers and the ‘gotcha’ moments and the distractions and the sideshows that have come to dominate and sensationalize our politics, and focus on what’s actually at stake,” Biden said. “I think in your hearts, you know what’s at stake.”

Biden said those stakes couldn’t be higher.

GOP BLASTS ‘OUT OF TOUCH’ WARNING OF NO MORE WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNERS IF TRUMP WINS ELECTION

“Every single one of us has roles to play, a serious role to play, in making sure democracy endures,” he said. “In the age of disinformation, credible information that people can trust is more important than ever,” he continued.

The president took some shots at former President Trump during the dinner, and made some jokes about his own age.

“Yes, age is an issue, and I’m a grown man running against a 6-year-old,” Biden said, referring to Trump.

Anti-Israel protesters were also present outside the event, as they shouted “Shame on you!” and “Free Palestine” at attendees walking in.

NEW POLL SHOWS BIDEN’S 2024 LEAD VANISHING WITH TRUMP ON TRIAL

Comedian Colin Jost hosted the dinner and made some quips about the president, in addition to several jokes about Trump and other Republican politicians.

“Like many of you here tonight, I pretend to do news on TV. My ‘Weekend Update’ co-anchor Michael Che was going to join me here tonight but in solidarity with President Biden, I decided to lose all my Black support,” he said, referring to his “Saturday Night Live” role as a co-anchor of “Weekend Update.”

“I love Washington. Last time I was here I left my cocaine at the White House. Luckily, President Biden was able to make good use of it at his State of the Union,” Jost said, making a reference to the cocaine discovered at the White House.

Biden also called on Vladimir Putin to release Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been in Russian prison since March 29, 2023.

“Putin should release Evan,” he said at the dinner. “We are doing everything we can.”

RFK Jr responds to Trump alleging conspiracy behind Biden’s competition

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. responded to former President Trump’s allegations he is a “Democrat plant” and would be a “wasted protest vote,” challenging the presumptive Republican presidential nominee to a debate.

“When frightened men take to social media they risk descending into vitriol, which makes them sound unhinged,” Kennedy wrote in an X post on Saturday afternoon. “President Trump’s rant against me is a barely coherent barrage of wild and inaccurate claims that should best be resolved in the American tradition of presidential debate. President Trump, who has proven himself the most adept debater in modern American political history, should not be panicked to meet me on that stage.”

RFK Jr. said he will prove Trump “betrayed the hopes of his most sincere followers,” arguing the former president “promised to end the Ukraine war and then colluded with Speaker Johnson and President Biden to fund it.” Kennedy Jr. also said Trump “let Big Pharma and his corrupt bureaucrats run roughshod over him as President,” and “promised to cut the deficit and ran up the biggest debt in history.”

“He promised to run the government like a business and then closed down our businesses. He promised to drain the swamp and then filled his administration with swamp creatures,” RFK Jr. said. “He promised to protect our rights and then torpedoed the Constitution.”

TRUMP ACCUSES RFK JR. OF BEING A ‘DEMOCRAT PLANT’ AND ‘WASTED PROTEST VOTE’

“Instead of lobbing poisonous bombs from the safety of his bunker, let’s hear President Trump defend his record to me mano-a-mano by respectful, congenial debate,” Kennedy concluded.

Trump’s 2020 campaign notably called out Biden’s “bunker” strategy, condemning how the Democrat largely stayed away from the campaign trail and ducked the public eye while running for president.

Kennedy’s challenge came after Trump blasted the independent presidential candidate on TRUTH Social.

“RFK Jr. is a Democrat ‘Plant,’ a Radical Left Liberal who’s been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the History of the United States, get Re-Elected,” Trump wrote in a series of posts earlier Saturday. “A Vote for Junior’ would essentially be a WASTED PROTEST VOTE, that could swing either way, but would only swing against the Democrats if Republicans knew the true story about him.”

RFK JR.’S RUNNING MATE AN ‘UNKNOWN QUANTITY’ WITH ‘DEEP POCKETS’ AS GOP, DEMS FEAR SPOILER CAMPAIGN: EXPERTS

Trump charged that RFK Jr. “is totally Anti-Gun, an Extreme Environmentalist who makes the Green New Scammers look Conservative, a Big Time Taxer and Open Border Advocate, and Anti-Military/Vet.”

“His Radicalized Family will never allow him to be a Republican, and his Chief ‘Funder’ is the V.P. Candidate that nobody ever heard of, except her ex-husband, who’s been stripped of a big chunk of cash,” Trump continued, taking a swipe at Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan

Trump said that while living in New York at the same time as Kennedy, he watched the former Democrat convince former Gov. Andrew Cuomo “to make environmental moves that were outright NASTY,” noting that upstate New York “was not allowed to drill or frack as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and others ripped off New York Energy,” causing energy costs in upstate New York and New England to skyrocket.

“His Views on Vaccines are FAKE, as is everything else about his Candidacy. Let the Democrats have RFK Jr. They deserve him!” Trump said.

Homeless tents nationwide could be in for rude awakening: Pack up and move out

In a Supreme Court showdown Monday over whether the homeless have a “right” to camp in public, almost no one mentioned the actual victims of that crazy idea. Homeless advocates, including the American Civil Liberties Union, told the court that living on the streets is a “victimless” crime. Victimless?

Everyone who has to step over needles and human poop and navigate around half-conscious humans while walking to work or taking their kids to school is a victim.

Every store owner whose entrance is blocked by makeshift cardboard shelters is a victim.

Every family that wants to use a park and finds it cluttered with sprawling tents is a victim.

ST. LOUIS GOVERNMENT REMOVES ‘SCARY,’ ‘SMELLY’ HOMELESS CAMP AFTER THREE YEARS OF DISTURBING HOMEOWNERS

The homeless are more likely to commit violent crimes than people who aren’t homeless. The public has every reason to be wary.

Municipalities all over the U.S. are watching City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson, which challenges a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling barring penalties for sleeping with blankets and other paraphernalia on public property. The 9th Circuit – known for its left-wing rulings – says these penalties amount to “cruel and unusual punishment” because the homeless have no choice.

No choice is another whopper. San Francisco authorities report that 60% of homeless individuals living on the street refuse shelter when it’s offered.

Here in New York City, every homeless person is guaranteed shelter. When Mayor Eric Adams sends outreach teams from the Department of Homeless Services to the tent encampments, only about 5% take the offer for shelter. The other 95% choose living rough.

Justice Clarence Thomas got closest to this practical truth when he asked if the Grants Pass ordinance criminalizes lacking a home, or the deliberate decision to sleep rough instead of going to a shelter.

MAYOR BASS’ PLAN TO HAVE RICH PEOPLE FUND HOMELESSNESS PROGRAM MIGHT JUST WORK: LA BUSINESS LEADERS

A big surprise is who is siding with Grants Pass – Democratic pols, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and a long list of big blue cities except – you guessed it – New York City.

Grants Pass lawyers explain that the 9th Circuit has “erected a judicial roadblock” affecting virtually every municipality in the West, preventing them from clearing encampments. The results are “crime, fires, the reemergence of medieval diseases, environmental harm, and record levels of drug overdoses, and deaths on public streets.”

Phoenix city officials, in a friend-of-the-court brief, complain that 9th Circuit judges are acting like “homeless policy czars,” usurping what local governments should decide. Justice Brett Kavanaugh echoed that, warning against having “federal courts micromanaging” homeless policy.

That’s what’s been happening. Anti-camping regulations adopted in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Portland, Oregon, were all barred following the 9th Circuit’s precedent. And that precedent has also been cited by courts in the rest of the U.S. as a reason to tolerate homeless encampments.

Grants Pass is so atypical of the larger cities wrestling with homelessness that the outcome of the case is somewhat difficult to predict. It’s a town of 40,000 with a small, church-run shelter.

CALIFORNIA CITY OKS $1M PER UNIT HOMELESS HOUSING PROJECT AFTER AUDIT FOUND STATE WASTED BILLIONS ON CRISIS

But Monday’s argument suggests the justices will rule 6-3 or 5-4 that municipalities can ban sleeping on public property. The ruling will affect the entire nation.
Except perhaps New York City, which is moving away from common sense.

The City Council adopted a “Homeless Bill of Rights” in 2023, making Gotham the only big city with an explicit right to sleep in public spaces. Mayor Adams did not veto it. There would have been no point. The law was adopted unanimously. What are city lawmakers thinking?

Homeless people deserve compassion, but allowing them to freeze to death or succumb to disease isn’t compassionate. Data show they are shortening their own lifespan by 30 years or more.

Jumaane Williams, the city’s public advocate, sponsored the “Homeless Bill of Rights,” blathering that the city must look at the root causes of homelessness rather than “stoking fear.”

But fear is warranted. And the public deserve clean, safe streets.

Fair warning: Williams is eyeing Adams’ job as mayor.

The court’s expected ruling will allow local authorities across the U.S. to crack down on homeless encampments. But the justices cannot command that they do it.

The law-abiding public – the real victims of homelessness – need to elect local leaders who will say “no” to preferring the rights of the homeless over the rights of the rest of us.

New York City voters, it’s up to you.

Presidential candidate among 100 anti-Israel agitators arrested

Green Party 2024 presidential candidate Jill Stein was among 100 people arrested Saturday at Washington University in St. Louis, her campaign manager confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Stein’s campaign manager, Jason Call, said that he, Stein and deputy campaign manager Kelly Merrill-Cayer were all arrested at the encampment on the campus.

“The demand from the encampment was specifically for the university to divest from Boeing, which manufactures munitions used in the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza at their nearby St Charles facility,” Call said to Fox News Digital. “The Stein campaign supports the demands of the students and their peaceful protest and assembly on campus. Student protest for peace and civil liberties has always represented the best part of our collective moral conscience. Solidarity.”

More than 100 people were arrested at the Washington University anti-Israel protest on Saturday, which is one of many demonstrations taking place this week at college campuses across the country.

‘The Office’ star asked to scrap judgmental joke about Christians on popular sitcom

“The Office” star Angela Kinsey opened up in a recent podcast appearance about the few times her own faith caused her to speak out against certain jokes made on the popular sitcom.

Kinsey, who played Angela Martin on the long-running show, talked about her Christian faith and her years on “The Office” with former co-star Rainn Wilson on the April 23 episode of his podcast, “Soul Boom.”

Wilson, who played Dwight on the show, asked Kinsey what it was like playing an “uptight Christian” when she was raised having a “very warm, meaningful relationship” with her faith and the church.

“Did that ever bump up against you in any way?” he asked.

‘OFFICE’ STAR RAINN WILSON SAYS FAITH IN GOD ‘FREAKS PEOPLE OUT’ IN HOLLYWOOD, IS THE ‘UNCOOLEST THING’

Kinsey explained how there were a few times when a joke was written for her character that she felt pigeonholed Christians and didn’t really reflect their views.

In one episode during the show’s third season, she recalled her character being given a line she felt was “super judge-y” against Oscar, a gay character on the show.

Kinsey said she felt the line didn’t reflect something a true Christian would say, and talked to “Office” producer and showrunner Greg Daniels about it.

“Yeah, actually, there were one or two times in which there would be a joke written for her that I thought was just really stereotypical, maybe one note. I like to think of her as a full, well-rounded person. I do remember I remember there was a particular storyline between Angela and Oscar, where Angela was being super judge-y. I never went up to Greg about any joke, but there was a joke at Oscar’s expense, and I went up to Greg [Daniels] and I was like, ‘I can’t.'”

Kinsey said she recalled the character invoking Jesus in the line and felt bothered by it.

“I just was like, ‘I don’t feel good about it. I don’t feel good about that. I don’t feel like that’s what Jesus represented to me,'” she told Daniels.

“And he was like, ‘OK.’ And he heard me, and he took the joke out. And the episode, it was ‘Gay Witch Hunt,’ had so many already. But that’s the one pivotal moment I remember being like, OK, this is feeling like a stereotype and very one note. I feel like she has more depth than that,” Kinsey continued.

Fox News Digital reached out to representatives of Daniels for comment.

After telling this story, Wilson and Kinsey discussed religion and the importance of prayer in their lives.

Kinsey shared memories of her mother reading the Bible and her father leading “grace” at dinnertime.

Remarkably, Wilson suggests they “say grace” right then in the podcast. He goes on to thank God for his podcast team and the opportunity to share in conversation with his former co-star.

Wilson recently published a book calling for a “spiritual revolution,” and is an adherent of the Baha’i faith, a deistic religion founded in 19th century Iraq.

American on why he carried ammo in luggage abroad as he faces years in prison

An Oklahoma man arrested for bringing ammo to Turks and Caicos says a Friday court hearing could determine the fate of multiple Americans who face a similar predicament after a new policy took effect in the popular vacation spot.

“The date that everything hinges on is this Friday. Bryan Hagerich goes on trial May the 3rd,” Ryan Watson, who was arrested after stray bullets were discovered in his luggage while his family was returning from their vacation, told “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday.

Hagerich’s case, he explained, will be the first tried since a February court order ruled that tourists in the process of leaving the country are also subject to prison time for possessing firearms or ammo.

OKLAHOMA AIRPORT UNDER TSA MICROSCOPE AFTER TURKS AND CAICOS JAILS DAD FOUND WITH AMMO

Tourists were previously able to pay a fine in most instances, according to reports.

Ryan and his wife Valerie were flying home from their vacation in Turks and Caicos where they were celebrating a friend’s 40th birthday on April 12 when they were arrested at the airport.

Valerie, who is now home in Oklahoma, told guest host Carley Shimkus the most difficult part is explaining the situation to their two children.

“There’s just a lot of unknowns right now, and, I think that’s probably the most worrisome of all, because I don’t really know what to tell the kids when they ask, ‘Do you know how long dad’s going to be gone?'” she said.

AMERICANS ARRESTED IN TURKS AND CAICOS FACE 12 YEARS IN PRISON OVER ‘INNOCENT MISTAKE’: ‘NEVER DAWNED ON US’

“We’ve been praying a lot, and we have a lot of faith, and we know that this is part of God’s plan for us, and we are just doing our best to keep going and just keep praying, because that’s really all we can do. We’re kind of just in a waiting phase right now, and it’s been kind of difficult.”

Both Ryan and Valerie insist they were unaware that the bullets were in the carry-on bag. Labeling himself a “responsible gun owner,” Ryan said gun safety has always been something he has stressed to his children, but that the incident on the vacation was a simple mistake.

“We’re human, we make mistakes, and it was just an oversight. I never saw those bullets in there and, unfortunately, they were not only missed by me, but they were also missed by TSA.”

Lakers star stomps feet in total meltdown on coach as team staves off elimination

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James appeared to explode on head coach Darvin Ham during the team’s 119-108 victory in Game 4 to avoid the sweep against the Denver Nuggets.

The Lakers were up 15 points early in the fourth quarter. The ball went to Nuggets guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. James knocked the ball away from him, and it went out of bounds. James insisted the ball didn’t go out of bounds off of him.

Emma Stone now wants to be called by her real name: ‘Can’t do it anymore’

Emma Stone is over it.

When the Oscar winner first became an actress and had to choose an official SAG-AFTRA (actor’s union) name, Emily Stone wasn’t available, so she went with Emma, a name she liked growing up.

“It’s just because my name was taken [by another actress in SAG],” she told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent story.

Years later, she revealed, she began to miss that identity.

EMMA STONE SAYS ANXIETY IS A ‘VERY SELFISH CONDITION’

“I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily,’” she said. “[‘The Curse’ co-star] Nathan [Fielder] calls me Em, which is easier.”

The subject came up after Fielder spoke to the Reporter in a joint interview.

“Before we continue, I’d like to say something,” he said. “Her name’s Emily, but she goes by Emma professionally. So, when there’s people that don’t know her, I end up saying Emma. But I’m going to just say Emily from here on.”

“You can say Emma,” Stone told the reporter. “You can say anything.” She added that if a fan came up to her and called her Emily, she wouldn’t correct the fan.

Woman’s ‘selfish’ decision on family trip doesn’t sit well with relationship expert

A woman on Reddit who says she was alienated and given the cold shoulder by her family after she accepted a free first-class upgrade on a vacation did nothing wrong, Reddit users said, weighing in on her drama.

Reddit user “Abbyissostupid” told Reddit’s “Am I the A–hole” (AITA) subreddit about her dilemma in a post on Friday, April 26, titled, “AITA for not letting my 6’6” brother have the free first-class upgrade the airline gave me on our 12-hour flight?”

In the post, the woman said she’s currently on a family trip in Hawaii to celebrate her father’s recent retirement, and that he paid for the entire family to attend.

WOMAN WHO BANS ALCOHOL FROM HER HOME IS NOT WRONG, SAYS THERAPIST, REDDIT USERS

“There are six of us but my brother and I live in the same part of the country,” she said — so the two of them were on the same flight to Hawaii.

“I guess it’s relevant to say I am 5’1″ and my brother is 6’6,” she wrote.

A frequent traveler for work, she said she has “quite a bit of status with the airline for which my dad bought our tickets.”

As she and her brother were boarding the plane, she was approached by a flight attendant and told that a spot in first class had become available.

The flight attendant “whispered that they had a first-class passenger not show up, and they needed the coach seat to accommodate a standby passenger,” said Abbyissostupid.

“She said I had by far the most status of anyone on the plane, so they were willing to move me to first class for free.”

“I had a nice flight.”

The woman happily accepted the upgrade, she said, and “took it in a heartbeat.”

“I told my brother I’d see him in 12 hours and let me know if he wanted any food or drink and I grabbed my stuff and moved,” she said.

“Needless to say, I had a nice flight.”

REDDIT USER ACCUSED OF SPOILING HER YOUNG SON BY ASKING FOR AN INVITE TO GIRLS-ONLY EVENT

Her brother, however, was quite upset that she did not give him the upgrade instead, as he is much taller and presumably could’ve used the extra legroom to be more comfortable.

After the plane landed, her brother refused to speak to her for the entire ride to their hotel, she said — and then told her family that she had been upgraded.

“We had a nice hello with the rest of the family, but after I got down from my shower my mom took me aside and said what I did ‘was awful,’” said Abbyissostupid.

Confused, the woman said she asked her mother what she was talking about — “and she said that I should have given my brother the seat.”

The Reddit writer added, “I thought that would be the end of it, but all five of my siblings and my parents are upset with me and the vacation is off to a very rough start,” she said.

WOMAN CANCELS ANNIVERSARY TRIP AFTER HUSBAND DESTROYS HER TERRARIUM: ‘PRIDE AND JOY’

Her siblings even told their children to avoid her for not being a loyal family member, the woman said.

“My sister said, ‘No, they only like to play with people who give a s— about their family — what were you thinking?’” wrote Abbyissostupid.

When the woman pointed out that her brother never even asked for an upgrade, the sister replied that he should not have had to — and that she should have automatically given her brother the upgrade for his comfort.

“I’ve been by myself since brunch and not having much fun. AITA?” asked Abbyissostupid of others on Reddit.

In an update to the post after others had commented, Abbyissostupid added that her family is still angry at her, but to varying degrees — and that she’s been spending time instead with a friend who lives in Hawaii.

REDDIT USER WHO LEFT HER DRUNK HUSBAND BEHIND AT AIRPORT GETS SUPPORT FROM OTHERS: ‘HAS A PROBLEM’

“So my vacation will be great no matter what,” said Abbyissostupid. “But reading your comments really gave me confidence to not give a crap (or try to at least!). Thank you.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Abbyissostupid for further updates — and to a relationship expert for advice on the topic.

‘People make poor decisions all the time’

Dr. Kathy Nickerson, PhD, a clinical psychologist based in California, said in an email to Fox News Digital on Saturday afternoon, “It would have been nice for the [Reddit writer] to give her brother the upgrade because coach is far less comfortable for someone who is 6’6″ than 5’1″. However, I can understand that since the flight attendant whispered in her ear, [the woman] might have thought she needed to be discreet and not offer it to her brother.”

WOMAN CALLED A ‘BAD PARENT’ BY HER OWN FOLKS IS DEFENDED ON REDDIT FOR KEEPING HER FAMILY TOGETHER

Nickerson added, “If we could go back in time, I would have whispered in [the woman’s] ear: ‘Are you OK here? I know it is not first class, but can you deal with this and let your brother go instead? Seems like he’s pretty uncomfortable.'”

“The best thing to do is apologize to her brother and express understanding to her family.”

She also said it would have been “a thoughtful, loving, kind gesture” for the woman to offer the first-class seat to her brother.

Said Nickerson, “Now that it is done, the best thing to do is apologize to her brother and express understanding to her family. It’s reasonable for everyone to feel the way they do; it’s not so reasonable to ruin the family vacation because of it.”

She noted that in her experience, “People make poor decisions all the time. People can be selfish and thoughtless sometimes. Everyone deserves compassion and a chance to make amends. Having everyone in the family berate and criticize the [woman] is not helpful.”

Rather, she said, “it creates an emotionally unsafe environment, which only encourages more harmful behavior.”

Nickerson said she’d advise “a family meeting, where they can apologize for the hurtful choices, all around — and express some understanding for the others’ feelings and agree to do better next time, then move on. Let’s forgive each other, learn from this and enjoy our trip.”

Most commenters on Reddit, however, had a very different point of view.

On the AITA subreddit, people can reply to posts and indicate the poster is “NTA” (“Not the A–hole”), “YTA” (“You’re the A–hole”), “NAH” (“No A–holes Here”) or “ESH” (“Everyone Sucks Here”).

Users can “upvote” responses they think are helpful and “downvote” ones that are not.

Most users said that the woman was “NTA” for taking the upgrade — and that the airline likely would not have allowed her to give it to her brother, even if she wanted to, they said.

“Had something happen to me years ago on Air Canada. Vancouver to Toronto red eye. Flying with adult daughter and got tagged for upgrade,” said Reddit user “BetAlternative8397” in the top-upvoted comment.

The user continued, “I asked about letting her fly upfront instead and was told the seat is only available to the status holder. I was exhausted from a week working away, so I took it,” the person added.

“No reason you should have turned it down.”

The same individual noted, “No one shamed me for it” and said that Abbyissostupid’s brother was rude and jealous.

“NTA, but you sure have a family of them,” said Reddit user “Fearless_Ad1685” in another top comment.

“Your status got you the offer. If you declined it, it wouldn’t have gone to your brother anyway,” Fearless_Ad1685 continued.

“No reason you should have turned it down just to stay in coach with your brother.”
