General Situation

An easterly airstream affected the coast of Guangdong today. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with a few showers. Besides, the broad area of low pressure over the central to northern part of the South China Sea brought unsettled weather to the region today, and intensified into a tropical depression in the afternoon. Severe Tropical Storm Ewiniar transformed into an extratropical cyclone over the seas south of Japan today. The tropical depression over the central to northern part of the South China Sea is expected to edge towards the coast of western Guangdong to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary gradually tomorrow. It will be windier with squally showers and thunderstorms over the region in the next couple of days.

Forecast Description

Cloudy with occasional squally showers and a few thunderstorms. Showers will be heavy at times later. Temperatures will range between 26 and 29 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground later. There will be swells.

This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.
At midnight, the tropical depression over the central to northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 530 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 17.9 degrees north 112.3 degrees east) and is forecast to move north at about 15 kilometres per hour, edging towards the coast of western Guangdong to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary.
