Architect of Obama victory details what Biden needs to win against Trump
Ex-Obama adviser David Axelrod said that President Biden is increasingly trailing former President Trump in the battleground states, making it an open question as to whether he should step down.
“He really needs a royal flush to win this race,” Axelrod said on CNN Friday.
Multiple media figures and Biden allies have called on the president to withdraw from the race after a shaky debate performance last month.

“The president’s been behind for 10 months, consistently in this data” Axelrod said. “[According to] deeper data that the analytics people look at, he is now behind in all the battleground states and in some cases, well behind, beyond the margin of error.”
“So, yes, of course he can win,” Axelrod said. “Anyone can win. But given the stakes, and I think this is what those Democratic officials are thinking, given the stakes, the fact that he can win is not a persuasive argument. The question is: what are the odds that he would win, and would we have a better chance with someone else? That‘s the question everybody is pondering.”
Axelrod said that Biden is surrounded by a “very small coterie of advisors who he actually trusts and listens to” about his candidacy.
“The president is pretty insulated,” he said.

Axelrod previously argued that Biden is slated to lose the election to Trump in an interview with CNN on Sunday night.
“There are certain immutable facts of life,” Axelrod said in an interview with CNN while discussing Biden’s age and leadership. “Those were painfully obvious on that debate stage. The president just … hasn’t come to grips with it. He’s not winning this race.”
“He seems not to grasp what the big concern is that people have,” Axelrod said.
Biden will turn 82 in November and is already the oldest president in American history.

CNN’s Smerconish slams local radio station for editing Biden gaffes from interview
CNN host Michael Smerconish ripped the Biden campaign and a local Wisconsin radio station for editing out portions of a recent interview with thepresident.
The host, who also has his own radio show, appeared on “CNN This Morning” Friday and told Kasie Hunt that altering audio of a presidential interview and then airing it live is something a radio station should never do.
Smerconish told Hunt that if a presidential campaign asked a show to edit audio, “the answer is hell no! We should have run it live.”

The host’s remarks came after Wisconsin radio network Civic Media admitted on Thursday that its program, “The Earl Ingram Show,” made multiple edits to its interview with President Biden before it aired on July 4, at the campaign’s request.
In a statement, the network said, “it was reported to Civic Media management that immediately after the phone interview was recorded, the Biden campaign called and asked for two edits to the recording before it aired.”
“Civic Media management immediately undertook an investigation and determined that the production team at the time viewed the edits as non-substantive and broadcast and published the interview with two short segments removed,” the statement added.
The edits included two portions that were removed, one of which featured Biden bragging about how many Black people are in his administration. The network disclosed that the program removed the words, “…and in addition to that, I have more Blacks in my administration than any other president, all other presidents combined, and in major positions, cabinet positions.”
The other edit cut out Biden’s remarks on Trump’s call in 1989 for the death penalty of the “Central Park Five,” the nickname of the group of Black and Latino youths wrongfully convicted for the rape of a New York jogger.
Biden had originally said, “I don’t know if they even call for their hanging or not, but he, but they said convicted of murder.” The victim of the decades-old assault was terribly injured but not killed, apparently prompting the request for Biden’s line to be scrubbed.

After pointing out the edits, and providing a full unedited version of the interview, the station admitted wrongdoing on its part and criticized the actions of “The Earl Ingram Show.” The statement added, “Civic Media disagrees with the team’s judgments in the moment, both with respect to the handling of the interview questions and the decision to edit the interview audio.”
Still, the network declared it stands by Ingram, who made news several days prior by admitting that the Biden campaign provided him with the questions they wanted him to ask the president during their conversation.

Smerconish ripped the radio station for both controversies.
“Never have I heard of questions that would actually be suggested to a radio host,” the CNN weekend host said.
He added that there might be some “pre-show cajoling in terms of what will the subject matter be,” but said “no host of any kind should ever accept questions suggested by any principal.”
He then concluded by saying that editing the tape prior to airing such an interview is off limits. Hunt agreed, commenting, “100%.”
Biden campaign manager reportedly tries to rally staffers after ‘bad f—ing weeks’
The Biden campaign team is attempting to rally staffers as President Biden faces continued calls to withdraw from the race following his disastrous debate performance.
“We had two very, very, very hard weeks, very bad weeks,” Biden campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon told staff on a call, as reported by Axios. “I told you I’d level with you, they’ve been bad f—ing weeks,” she said.
Reports of both White House and campaign staffers feeling demoralized and “miserable” about Biden’s candidacy have grown dramatically in recent weeks.

“This two-week window has really sucked, and it is hard, there is no doubt about it. And it’s hard for all of us because we are doing the job,” she told staffers.
“If we can get through these two weeks that we’re living through, we can get through anything,” she said.
Staffers were also told to ignore “crazy f—ing gossip land world,” as media speculation over replacing Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate increases.
O’Malley Dillon also told staffers that Biden political advisor Mike Donilon is saying in meetings that “he’s never seen a presidential candidate have more thrown at him than Joe Biden and do you know what Joe Biden does every day? He gets up and he keeps fighting.”
The campaign chair responded to concerns over Biden’s poll numbers in the call with staffers. Some post-debate polls conducted in battleground states have found that Trump is now leading Biden.
In Wisconsin, a poll conducted by Republican pollsters Fabrizio Ward and Democratic pollsters Impact Research on behalf of AARP found that Trump tops Biden 50%-45% among likely voters in Wisconsin.
“[W]e definitely saw a little bit of slippage, but nothing significant, nothing massive, no bottom falling out,” O’Malley Dillon said of Biden’s polling numbers after the debate.

Illegal immigrant suspected in Rachel Morin’s murder learns what he’s up against
Rachel Morin’s suspected killer will face Maryland’s maximum penalty of life imprisonment without parole if convicted of her murder, Harford County prosecutors said in a notice to the court.
Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, 23, faces a half-dozen charges, including first-degree murder, rape, and kidnapping, in connection with Morin’s death. Authorities have labeled him a potential serial killer after his alleged involvement in a slew of crimes against women in Central America and the United States.
He is an illegal immigrant suspected not only in Morin’s murder, but also a pair of sex assaults in California and the brutal slaying of another woman in his home country of El Salvador.
Morin was a 37-year-old mother of five who went out for a jog on a trail near her home in Bel Air, Maryland, about 30 miles northeast of Baltimore. She never made it back. Police found her body in a culvert, covered in bruises and with severe head trauma.

Under state law, prosecutors are required to inform the defendant if they plan to pursue the max sentence. If convicted without such a notice filed, Martinez-Hernandez would be eligible for parole after just 25 years.

He spent 10 months laying low before police arrested him at a bar in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

NBA great calls on Biden to ‘pass the torch’ amid concerns over mental decline
NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley called on President Biden to “pass the torch” ahead of the 2024 presidential election amid concerns that he is not mentally fit to seek re-election following his disastrous performance in last month’s debate.
Barkley, who announced his plans to retire from television next year following the completion of the 2024-2025 NBA season, spoke about the current climate of politics during an appearance on CNBC on Thursday.
“I just feel sadness,” Barkley said from the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

However, the NBA great’s call to have Biden step aside was not a signal for his support of former President Trump.

Concerns about the president’s mental acuity erupted following his debate with Trump last month.
Those worries were amplified during a press conference with reporters on Thursday, when Biden made a handful of gaffes, including appearing to confuse Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Trump, holding up a list of reporters he was instructed to call on and repeatedly saying “anyway” while trailing off from a specific thought.

The debate between Trump and Biden has also made its way on to the green, with the former president challenging Biden to an 18-hole golf match during a rally in Florida this week after the two argued about golf handicaps during their first debate.
A Biden spokesperson shot down the proposal, calling it “weird antics.”

Gordon Ramsay and his wife, Tana, aren’t anywhere close to being empty-nesters.
During an episode of Lorraine Candy and Trish Halpin’s podcast, “Postcards from Midlife,” Tana revealed that all four of her adult children have moved back home.
“They left home, and they’ve all come back,” she said of her four oldest kids. “They moved out of our house three years ago to renovate.”
The couple share six children together: Megan, 26, twins Jack and Holly, 24, Matilda, 22, Oscar, 5, and Jesse, 8 months.

The baby boy will make Ramsay, 57, the “oldest dad” at school drop-off, he joked during a 2023 interview with “Entertainment Tonight.”

Prince Harry honors Pat Tillman’s mother at ESPYs after she slammed award decision
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were all smiles as they attended the 2024 ESPY Awards on Thursday night, when the Duke of Sussex accepted the prestigious Pat Tillman Award For Service.
Harry, 39, and Markle, 42, were seated in the front row at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater for ESPN’s 32nd annual ceremony, which honors individual and team athletic achievements. During the event, Harry, who served in the British army for 10 years, was recognized for his work with the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded service men and women that he founded in 2014.
Prior to the ESPYs, Harry had faced backlash after he was named the recipient of the award named in honor of Tillman, a fallen soldier and promising NFL player. However, the prince was met with cheers, applause and a standing ovation as he took the stage to accept the accolade.
“I’d like to begin or express my deepest gratitude to everyone at the Pat Tillman Foundation led by Marie Tillman Shenton, who I am so honored is here tonight,” Harry began his speech as the camera panned to Shenton, Tillman’s widow.

“Like the poem, the spirit of the Invictus Games transcends race, time and borders,” he said. “It is born from unity and exudes purpose.”

The royal noted that the Invictus Games recently marked its 10th anniversary as the audience applauded and the camera panned to Markle, who clapped and smiled.
“While so much progress has been made since those first games, the world outside seems to be in an even more precarious state,” Harry said. “We live in an age marked by polarization and division. Conflicts rage around the globe. Anger and resentment towards those who are different seems to pervade societies everywhere. Our community challenge is that.”
He continued, “Our community proves that unity is not just possible, but formidable. The beauty of the Invictus Games lies in how it brings people together, no matter one’s nationality, background and personal struggles.”
Harry told the audience that service men and women who are part of Invictus exemplify the “very best in all of us.” He then cited a Latin military expression from the Roman era that translates “roughly to ‘leave no one behind.’”

The Duke of Sussex said that the phrase holds special significance for United States Army Rangers. Tillman, who walked away from a lucrative NFL contract and a newlywed bride to join the Army after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, was serving as an Army Ranger at the time of his death. Tillman was killed at the age of 27 in the mountains of Afghanistan in 2004, later revealed to be by friendly fire.
“I have no doubt that Tillman and his comrades lived for those words,” Harry said. “So it is fitting I end with them.”
He concluded, “I make a promise on behalf of all of us at the Invictus Games Foundation: no matter the road ahead, we are here for you. We will leave no one behind. Thank you.”
The 2024 ESPYs were hosted by tennis icon Serena Williams, a friend of Markle’s. At the beginning of the night, Williams gave the royal couple a shout-out, joking, “Harry and Meghan, try not to breathe too much tonight.”
“Because this is my night, and I don’t want to be overshadowed by the accusations that you guys are taking up too much oxygen, OK?” she added as the camera panned to Harry and Markle laughing.
Harry’s expression of gratitude to Tillman’s mother was notable because Mary had previously spoken out against the duke’s selection for the award when it was first announced last month.
Mary claimed she was never consulted about the decision to award Harry the honor.
“I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award,” the matriarch told the UK’s DailyMail.
“There are recipients that are far more fitting,” she said. “There are individuals working in the veteran community that are doing tremendous things to assist veterans.”
Mary noted that ESPN should have chosen someone who has never been in the spotlight and highlighted their heroic efforts.
“I have said all that I will say on this matter,” Mary told Fox News Digital.
The Pat Tillman Foundation, which Mary is not associated with, has been selecting recipients since the award was established in 2014. Mary has never been consulted or privy to recipients in the past.
A spokesperson for ESPN told Fox News Digital, “ESPN, with the support of the Tillman Foundation, is honoring Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, specifically for the work of The Invictus Games Foundation as it celebrates its 10th year promoting healing through the power of sport for military service members and veterans around the world.”

Alec Baldwin’s lawyer asks court to dismiss case against actor
Luke Nikas accused the prosecution of concealing evidence from
Alec Baldwin’s legal team in the “Rust” movie shooting trial that “would be favorable” to the actor.
Nikas argued for dismissal, claiming the state withheld evidence that prop distributor Seth Kenney was the source of the live ammunition. Crime scene technician Marissa Poppell testified during cross-examination Thursday that a “good Samaritan” handed over live ammunition after the conclusion of “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed’s trial to Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department.
The “good Samaritan” was Troy Teske, a family friend of Gutierrez Reed’s father.
Baldwin’s lawyers argued this information was not given to the defense or to Gutierrez Reed’s defense.
Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey told the judge this is “a wild goose chase” and that the live ammunition turned over after the trial’s conclusion had no evidentiary value. Morrissey argued the new ammo turned over after the completion of trial came from the same place as the ammo Gutierrez Reed claimed she pulled the live ammo from.
“None of this is exculpatory at all,” Morrissey later added. “This is the exact same batch of ammunition that has already been sent to the FBI and tested. Because it all came from the same place. There’s no reason for us to do it again.”
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer ordered the state to produce the supplemental report and the rounds that Marissa Poppell took from Teske.
The judge changed her mind and asked to hear testimony from the crime scene technician on how she retrieved the live rounds from Teske.
Alec Baldwin’s lawyer Alex Spiro claimed the live ammunition that was turned over to law enforcement after the conclusion of “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed’s trial was never sent to the FBI for analysis.
New evidence was given to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department by Troy Teske, a family friend of “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed. Baldwin’s lawyer claimed the new evidence supported the theory that prop distributor Seth Kenney brought live ammunition onto the “Rust” set in 2021.
“[Teske] turned in multiple 45 rounds, including rounds that matched with rounds that struck Mrs. Hutchins, right?” Spiro questioned crime scene technician Marissa Poppell.
“Again, I wouldn’t use the word match without further analysis,” she explained.
“And the reason that we don’t have further analysis is you all didn’t send this to the FBI for further analysis, did you?” the lawyer questioned.
“We did not.”
“Right. Because if you had, it would have potentially proven the fact that all along this ammunition did come from Seth Kenney,” Spiro noted. “Isn’t that true?”
Poppell explained she was told the ammunition had originated from Joe Swanson and then was passed to Kenney.
Alec Baldwin’s attorney began the special motions hearing Friday by bringing up a side issue.
Alex Spiro accused special prosecutor Kari Morrissey of misconduct in the courtroom during the “Rust” movie set shooting trial.
“I got [an email] last night that indicated that the cameras are catching Kari Morrissey signaling witnesses while they’re on the witness stand,” Spiro told Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer.
The New York-based attorney claimed he is having the photo printed to turn into the court.
“I was sent a photograph that concerned me. And, I felt obligated and like I said to the court, I try to not make these issues,” he explained before noting, “This is a high pressure case.”
“I can’t just continue to give the benefit of the doubt on every single thing that’s occurred in this case, I just can’t,” Spiro continued. “And so, I’ll be turning that into the court.”
Baldwin’s legal team previously argued the prosecution acted unethically and failed to present crucial evidence to a grand jury in their original motion to dismiss the indictment, obtained by Fox News Digital. “Enough is enough,” the court documents stated. “This is an abuse of the system, and an abuse of an innocent person whose rights have been trampled to the extreme.”
The motion was denied by Judge Sommer.
Alec Baldwin was holding a Pietta 45 Colt revolver during the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyan Hutchins on Oct. 21, 2021.
The gun’s manufacturer, Alessandro Pietta, testified in court Thursday, contradicting Baldwin’s claim that he did not pull the trigger of the gun.
“If you want to release the hammer you have to pull the trigger,” he told the jury.
Pietta also testified that only five rounds should have been loaded into the replica revolver so the firing pin did not rest on a round.
Crime scene technician Marissa Poppell testified five live rounds were found in different places on the “Rust” film set when searched by investigators. The bullets were found on the prop cart, mixed in a box of dummy ammunition, and in two prop gun holsters.
The third day of Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” movie shooting trial will begin a little later as a special motions hearing will take place around 8:45 am local time.
The jury was instructed to return to court at 9:30 am instead of the typical 8:30 am.
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer will hear arguments concerning evidence about ammunition provided to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s investigators by an individual after the trial of the movie set’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed.
The armorer was sentenced to 18 months in prison after a jury found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March.
The prosecution argued that Gutierrez Reed unknowingly brought live ammo onto the “Rust” set and then failed to identify the live rounds due to lack of safety.
Gutierrez Reed plans to appeal her conviction.
Alec Baldwin arrived to the courthouse around 8 am local time for the third day of witness testimony.
The actor didn’t speak to media as he entered the courthouse. He was accompanied by his
wife, Hilaria, and his attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro.
The juror panel of 16, including four alternates, heard testimony from crime scene technician Marissa Poppell and lead “Rust” detective Cpl. Alexandria Hancock. Both testified about the testing done on the gun Baldwin held during the fatal shooting and the type of live ammunition found on the Western film set.
The jurors also heard from Italian gunmaker Alessandro Pietta, who created the vintage gun used by Baldwin.
Baldwin claims he did not pull the trigger of the gun on Oct. 21, 2021. However, Pietta testified this was not possible.
“If you want to release the hammer you have to pull the trigger,” he told the jury.

Baldwin seems to have put the focus on his family throughout the trial. The actor appeared at jury selection alongside his wife, Hilaria, and one of their seven children. Baldwin’s brother, Stephen Baldwin, has also attended each day of the “Rust” movie shooting trial. Baldwin also shares Ireland Baldwin with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
“The defense may try to use to their advantage the fact that he has eight children, seven with Hilaria and a grandchild,” he said. “Females may be sympathetic to a father and grandfather along with his fame.”
However, a female-heavy jury could find
Baldwin’s attorney’s personality abrasive.
“Sometimes being too aggressive on cross can backfire more with a female-heavy jury,” attorney Elizabeth Bunker told Fox News Digital. “It could go either way.”
