Trump takes lead over Kamala Harris with surprising group in blue state

Former President Trump has moved into the lead among Jewish voters in deep-blue New York.

Trump garnered the support of 50% of likely Jewish voters in New York, according to a Siena Research Institute poll released Tuesday, a slight lead over Vice President Harris who garnered the selection of 49% of respondents.

While the lead for Trump is slim, it marks a dramatic change from the former president’s prospects against President Biden, who in June led Trump among likely Jewish voters, 52%-46%, in the state.

However, the race has changed dramatically since the last poll, with Biden opting last month to drop out of the race and immediately endorse Harris, who quickly worked to secure the Democrat nomination.

DEMOCRAT CALLS OUT LEFT’S ‘STRONG UNDERCURRENT OF ANTISEMITISM’ IN ATTACKS ON POTENTIAL VP PICK SHAPIRO

Harris’ journey to the top of the Democrat ticket comes as some supporters of Israel have worried that her support for the Jewish state has started to wane, with some arguing that she has distanced herself from the Biden administration since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Harris became the first administration official to call for an “immediate cease-fire” to the conflict in March, and she also became the first administration official to warn of “consequences” for Israel if it went ahead with a planned invasion of the Gazan city of Rafah in an interview with ABC News later that month.

Harris has also faced questions about her relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, most notably after she appeared to dodge questions about whether the Israeli leader had become an “obstacle to peace.”

“I believe that we have got to continue to enforce what we know to be and should be the priorities in terms of what is happening in Gaza,” Harris said in response. “We’ve been very clear that far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed. We have been very clear that Israel and the Israeli people and Palestinians are entitled to an equal amount of security and dignity.”

VP SHORT-LISTER SHAPIRO ON DEFENSE OVER ISRAEL AFTER DECADES-OLD COLLEGE PAPER SURFACES

The poll also comes just before Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who was the only Jewish candidate in the running. The move prompted some to speculate that the choice was made as a result of Shapiro’s lack of popularity with members of the Democratic Party, who have taken a more sympathetic approach to Palestinians since the war broke out in Gaza.

Nevertheless, Jewish voters have traditionally supported Democrat candidates for decades. According to an analysis by the American Enterprise Institute, Jewish voters have on average supported Democrats over Republicans by a margin of 71% to 26% since 1968.

Jewish voters supported Biden over Trump 68% to 30% in 2020, while in 2016 the same group chose Clinton over Trump by a margin of 71% to 26%.

But the poll wasn’t all bad news for Harris, who overall solidified her lead over Trump among all likely voters in the state. Harris now leads Trump 53%-39% among likely New York voters, according to the Tuesday poll, a large improvement from the eight- to 10-point lead Biden had in previous versions of the poll.

The Siena College Research Institute poll was conducted between July 28 and Aug. 1 and surveyed 1,199 likely voters in New York, 8% of whom were Jewish; the poll has a margin of error of +/- 4.0 percentage points.

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.

JD Vance shares real reason Harris chose Walz over Shapiro for her running mate

GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance reacted to Vice President Kamala Harris picking Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her 2024 running mate, saying the former high school football coach is “far-left.”

“He’s a really far-left candidate. He’s a really far-left governor, but the fact that Kamala Harris selected him, I think shows really, really poor judgment and that she doesn’t have what it takes to be President of the United States,” Vance said Tuesday on “Hannity.”

Walz was chosen over Jewish Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro in the veepstakes race, a move Vance says shows Harris has “bent the knee to the far-left” of the Democratic Party.

“This decision, selecting Tim Walz, is another sign that she doesn’t care what the American people think,” Vance said. “She is only in this to obey the far-left radicals within her own party. It’s a really shameful moment for Kamala Harris.”

WHO IS TIM WALZ? MEET THE HARRIS RUNNING MATE WHO CALLED REPUBLICANS ‘WEIRD PEOPLE’

He added that he believes “antisemites” within Harris’ party drove the conversation over who should ultimately be given the running mate slot.

Shapiro received criticism from progressives over his pro-Israel stance and an op-ed he wrote in his college newspaper in which he described Palestinians as “too battle-minded to be able to establish a peaceful homeland of their own,” according to a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer.

A Harris aide pushed back on claims Shapiro was passed over due to criticism from progressives and anti-Israel activists, telling The Forward the suggestions are “absurd” and “absolutely ridiculous and offensive.”

“Josh Shapiro is a fantastic leader, and he was almost chosen,” the official told the outlet.

Shapiro gave a rousing speech at the first joint appearance of Harris and Walz at a campaign rally Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Vance told Fox News host Sean Hannity a vice presidential candidate shouldn’t be chosen based on whether they have the “right ethnic background.”

“It’s profoundly anti–American,” he said.

“Numerous grassroots activists, numerous leaders within the Democrat Party said you shouldn’t choose this guy because he’s Jewish. I take them at their word. That’s face value. And that is ridiculous for any American political party.”

Top 5 controversies surrounding Harris’ running mate pick Tim Walz

Vice President Kamala Harris has selected Midwestern governor, Army veteran and former football coach and teacher Tim Walz to be her 2024 running mate after a hurried, intense two-week vetting process.

Walz, 60, is a veteran politician who served in the U.S. Congress from 2007 until 2019, when he was elected governor of Minnesota, defeating Republican Jeff Johnson. He was re-elected to a second term in 2022 after fending off a challenge from Republican Scott Jensen.

Progressives have praised Walz’s strong support for unions and record of accomplishments as governor, which include codifying abortion rights into the state constitution, enacting universal free school breakfasts and lunches for students, regardless of income, and making Minnesota a refuge for children seeking transgender medical procedures.

This strong progressive record and Walz’s plainspoken demeanor reportedly thrilled the Harris campaign, which sought a partner who could reinforce the Democratic ticket’s strength in Midwestern battleground states. But there are several controversies tied to Walz’s tenure as governor that Republicans have already begun to use in their attacks on his record.

VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS NAMES MINNESOTA GOV. TIM WALZ AS HER RUNNING MATE

Here are a few:

1995 DUI Arrest

Walz in past campaigns has sought to downplay his arrest for drunken driving in the mid-90’s, but questions about his run-in with law enforcement continue to dog him. A 2022 report by Alpha News unearthed court records that cast doubt on the version of the story Walz has told on the campaign trail.

On Sept. 23, 1995, when Walz was working as a teacher in his home state of Nebraska, he was pulled over for going 96 mph in a 55-mph zone.

In comments to reporters, Walz’s 2006 campaign for Congress in Minnesota’s 1st District insisted he was “not drunk” and blamed a “misunderstanding” with police on “Walz’s deafness,” which the governor’s then-campaign manager said had since been “surgically corrected.”

But a state trooper’s report obtained by Alpha News contradicts those claims.

“A strong odor of alcoholic beverage was detected emitting from Mr. Walz[‘s] breath and person,” the report said. The trooper indicated that Walz submitted to and failed both a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test. He was eventually taken to Chadron Hospital for a blood test before being booked in the Dawes County Jail.

Walz was initially charged with driving under the influence and speeding, but he pled guilty to a single count of reckless driving, according to Aplha News.

MOST AMERICANS HAVE NEVER HEARD OF TIM WALZ, HARRIS’ VP PICK

Black Lives Matter Riots

Walz’s critics say his handling of the Minneapolis riots after the 2020 killing of George Floyd was a failure and low point of his first term as governor.

“[H]e’s been a disaster for Minnesota and is by far the most partisan governor that I can remember having,” Minnesota GOP Chairman David Hann told Fox News Digital. “Going back to 2020, certainly – he did nothing to try to stop the riots going on in Minneapolis. I think he was fearful of alienating his ‘progressive’ base, who were supporting the riots. Kamala Harris was raising money for the rioters.”

Walz deployed the National Guard to stop the violence, which included the torching of a police station. But GOP lawmakers have said both the governor and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey were too slow to act.

Republican state Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka accused Walz of a slow response to the riots, which left businesses in downtown Minneapolis in ruins.

“I called the White House after [four] days of unbridled rioting with the Governor frozen on what to do,” Gazelka wrote on X on July 28. “I know that Gov[.] Walz and Pres[ident] Trump talked. I know Walz finally brought the Guard out in full for the next night. But Walz was [three] days too late. Pressure may have made him move.”

Hann similarly said Walz “waited for three days before he could bring himself to ask for the National Guard to be deployed.” He also pointed to the “defund” police movement’s roots in Minnesota following Floyd’s murder and subsequent rioting in the Twin Cities.

As a result of the delayed action, hundreds of businesses across Minneapolis and St. Paul were devastated by the destruction and had to ask their local government for help recovering – on top of what they lost during pandemic-related closures.

WALZ’S HANDLING OF BLM RIOTS, STRICT COVID RULES UNDER MICROSCOPE AFTER HARRIS VP PICK

COVID-19 Lockdowns

In his first term as governor, Walz oversaw Minnesota’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like other Democratic leaders, he favored heavy-handed pandemic restrictions, including lockdowns and mask mandates.

The Upper Midwest Law Center unsuccessfully challenged Walz’s 2020 indoor mask mandate on constitutional grounds, but an appellate court sided with Walz.

Walz also set up a hotline to report residents who violated COVID-19 mandates, as FOX 9 Minneapolis reported at the time.

Gazelka asked Walz to “please take [the] Hotline down” in a post after it was established, calling the move “unnecessary.”

“We can all show a bit of kindness to our neighbors as we manage our times and needs differently in the stay at home efforts,” the state senator said at the time.

BAG OF CASH DOESN’T STOP JURORS FROM CONVICTING 5 DEFENDANTS IN $40 MILLION FOOD FRAUD SCHEME

Pandemic Relief Fraud Investigation

In addition to complaints over Walz’s pandemic-era restrictions, Republicans have blamed the governor for lax oversight of pandemic programs that cost millions of taxpayer dollars.

Federal prosecutors charged 70 people with defrauding federal food programs that funded meals for kids during the pandemic out of $250 million on Walz’s watch. Known as the Feeding Our Future scandal, it’s one of the country’s largest pandemic aid fraud cases. The Office of the Legislative Auditor, a nonpartisan watchdog, delivered a scathing report in June that said Walz’s Department of Education “failed to act on warning signs,” did not effectively exercise its authority and was ill-prepared to respond.

Interference in Police Shooting Case

Walz came under fire from Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty earlier this year for his comments on a police shooting case handled by her office.

Moriarty in June dropped the case against Minnesota State Trooper Ryan Londregan, who was accused in the fatal shooting of Black motorist Ricky Cobb II. In a press conference announcing her decision, she made remarks against Walz, saying he had been “very active in inserting himself into this case” and was conflicted since he controls the Minnesota State Patrol, FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul reported

“Have you ever seen this governor intervene in any case involving a defendant in his entire tenure?” Moriarty said on June 3. “Why is it appropriate for a governor, who has never picked up the phone to call me, who is not a lawyer, who does not understand the nuances of this case, to talk about it publicly? To center Mr. Londregan as being the victim in this case. Why has that been appropriate? Why hasn’t that been called out?”

Walz later told reporters that had Moriarty not dropped the charges against Londregan, he would have used his executive authority to remove her from the case.

“It was my hope that the county attorney would get to this position… At some point, if this decision had not been made, yes we would have done that,” Walz said.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office denied that rumors of Walz’s intention to remove the case affected Moriarty’s decision.

Speaker Johnson shares why Shapiro was ultimately ‘overlooked’ for Harris’ VP

House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said Tuesday that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro would have been a “stronger choice” for Vice President Harris’ vice presidential pick, said he thinks she was “reluctant” to pick the 51-year-old as her running mate because of his “Jewish heritage.”

“I think that clearly was a major factor, is that she was reluctant to put a vice presidential nominee on the ticket with Jewish heritage because they’re having a split in the Democratic Party,” Johnson told The Hill on Tuesday. “They have a pro-Palestinian, in some cases pro-Hamas, wing of the Democratic Party.

“Sadly for Josh Shapiro, because of his heritage, I think that is the reason he was overlooked.”

Shapiro had frequently been mentioned as one of about a half-dozen candidates Harris was considering to join her ticket, but on Tuesday she announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

FORMER TOP VP CONTENDER EXPRESSES ‘ENTHUSIASTIC SUPPORT’ FOR HARRIS-WALZ TICKET AFTER NOT BEING SELECTED

The two held their first rally together in Philadelphia Tuesday and were introduced by Shapiro.

Johnson said he didn’t want to call the decision antisemitic “because I don’t — I just know that that was a major factor. I think it was transparently a major factor. And I think they made a political decision that is sad, and I think they’ll regret it.”

Shapiro had faced attacks by progressives over his stance on the war in Gaza and noticeably had higher unfavorable ratings among Gen Z voters in a new NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll out this week. His ratings were 25% unfavorable compared to Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and Walz, who had 10% and 13% unfavorable ratings, respectively.

But while Shapiro has been pro-Israel during its war with Hamas, he has also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, at one point calling him “one of the worst leaders of all time.”

KAMALA HARRIS PICKS TIM WALZ: DID SHE DECIDE JOSH SHAPIRO WAS TOO JEWISH TO BE VP?

Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., pointed out the “hypocrisy” of anti-Israel protesters on Tuesday who demonstrated against the Biden administration’s policy on Israel, but who would vote for Harris as long as she didn’t pick Shapiro.

“The Anti-Israel activists who have been falsely accusing the Biden-Harris sdministration of funding “genocide” are suddenly fine with Vice President Harris, as long as she declines to choose Governor Shapiro as a running mate,” Torres posted on X.

“Never mind that the pro-Israel views of Governor Shapiro are indistinguishable from those of VP Harris. These hypocrites are full of s— and their antisemitic dog whistling should be given no veto power over the selection of a presidential running mate.”

Johnson’s office, Shapiro’s office and the Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

NFL star’s wife rips Harris’ VP pick: ‘He’s run Minneapolis into the ground’

The wife of NFL star Adam Thielen appeared unhappy with Vice President Kamala Harris’ pick for her running mate on Tuesday.

Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

Harris is expected to be confirmed as the nominee to run against former President Trump in the 2024 election at the Democratic National Convention later this month in Chicago. Trump chose Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate.

Caitlin Thielen responded to the news on X.

“Oh man.. bad bad news. He has run Minneapolis into the ground,” she wrote.

Walz was the governor during the Minneapolis riots after the police-involved murder of George Floyd.

Adam Thielen played for the Minnesota Vikings for nine years before joining the Carolina Panthers for the 2023 season.

He has 637 catches for 7,696 yards and 59 touchdowns in his career and was a Pro Bowl selection during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Harris explained why she picked Walz.

AS KIRK COUSINS REHABS, FALCONS ROOKIE MICHAEL PENIX JR. GETS PRESEASON SPOTLIGHT

“It’s personal,” she said. “He grew up in a small town in Nebraska, spending summers working on his family’s farm. His father died of cancer when he was 19, and his family relied on Social Security survivor benefit checks to make ends meet. At 17, he enlisted in the National Guard, serving for 24 years. He used his GI Bill benefits to go to college and become a teacher.

“He served as both the football coach and the advisor of the Gay-Straight Alliance.”

Harris said she wanted to share his background “both because it’s impressive in its own right, and because you see in no uncertain terms how it informs his record.”

“He worked with Republicans to pass infrastructure investments. He cut taxes for working families. He passed a law to provide paid family and medical leave to Minnesotan families. He made Minnesota the first state in the country to pass a law providing constitutional abortion protections after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and as an avid hunter, he passed a bill requiring universal background checks for gun purchases,” she added.

But Harris said what “impressed me most about Tim is his deep commitment to his family” and said she looks forward to building an administration “that reflects our shared values.”

“We are going to build a great partnership. We are going to build a great team,” Harris said. “We are going to win this election.”

Charlamagne warns ‘corrupt’ SCOTUS will install Trump as president if Harris wins

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God warned in a new interview that the U.S. Supreme Court will put former President Trump back into the White House even if he doesn’t get elected.

In a recent interview with The Hill, Charlamagne called the court illegitimate and corrupt, and he argued that it would overturn the election for Trump if Vice President Kamala Harris wins.

“I think that that is going to be the biggest constitutional crisis of our lifetime come November,” the host told the outlet.

POPULAR COMEDIAN ADMITS TRUMP IS ‘VERY ENTICING’ COMPARED TO DEMS WHO HE SAYS ARE NOT INSPIRING

During the interview, the radio mentioned his concerns about the upcoming election, pointing to potential shenanigans from the highest court in the land if the former president loses to Harris.

“Everybody should be focusing on the Supreme Court,” Charlamagne said, claiming it is “no longer a legitimate solution.” He argued that because of its recent track record of conservative rulings, there’s a danger it will go rogue in November.

“When you look at the recent rulings of the Supreme Court — whether it’s abolishing Roe v. Wade, whether it’s the presidential immunity for presidents to get away with crimes, whether it’s the fact that elected officials can take bribes now — it’s like, what happens in November if [Vice President Harris] wins, and then Donald Trump challenges the results of the election, in light of all of those recent rulings?”

“That’s honestly what I see coming. I see that happening right now,” Charlamagne said, elsewhere spelling out what he thinks could happen.

“To be 100 percent clear, I absolutely believe that come November, if he loses, Donald Trump is going to challenge the results of the election, and I think the Supreme Court would overturn the results of the election in light of all their recent rulings,” he said.

IIn the same interview with The Hill, he offered a tip for the Harris campaign on choosing a vice-presidential nominee.

“She’s going to need a straight, White male to convince a lot of people in middle America that she’s the person that should be on the ticket,” he said.

Harris picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday to be her running mate.

GORSUCH BLASTS SOTOMAYOR’S DISSENT IN CHRISTIAN WEB DESIGNER RULING: ‘REIMAGINES’ FACTS FROM ‘TOP TO BOTTOM’

He also admitted earlier this year that he has Trump Derangement Syndrome, adding that he believes the former president is a “threat to democracy.”

Liberals and Democratic Party leaders have been blasting the Supreme Court as illegitimate, corrupt, and a partisan tool in recent years due to its majority conservative make-up and its recent decisions, particularly the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, and the presidential immunity decision that President Biden called “dangerous” in July.

Biden has since called for reforms to be made to the court, including imposing term limits and a code of conduct for justices. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch was critical of the possible measures during a recent interview, saying it’s better for being able to make possibly unpopular decisions with lifetime tenure.

During his interview, Charlamagne commented on the president’s proposed reforms, stating, “I’m glad that Joe Biden is calling for Supreme Court reform now, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to stop the corruption that is going on with the Supreme Court.”

Simone Biles’ former teammate makes plea after rivalry fuels ‘death threats’

MyKayla Skinner, a former Team USA gymnast who won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, asked Simone Biles to call off the alleged bullying she’s received over their tit-for-tat.

Skinner released a nearly four-minute video asking for the negative treatment of her to stop and revealed she’s received “death threats” over the assumed rivalry with the 11-time medalist.

“I sincerely hoped that this topic wouldn’t need to be revisited, but unfortunately, things have really gotten out of hand lately,” Skinner said. “And it’s one thing to disagree with me regarding something I have said or a point I was trying to make, but it’s something else entirely when that turns into cyberbullying or even worse. Watching people cheer on the bullying — which has led to threats of physical harm to me, my husband and our daughter — is disgusting. So please at this point, I’m just asking for it to stop for the sake of my family because enough is enough.

“So why I’m here is because about four weeks ago, I made a comment about work ethic and what seems to be taking pace with the rising generation. To be totally clear, I take 100% responsibility for poorly articulating the point I was trying to make, and the last thing I wanted was to cause harm or offend our U.S. Olympic team. I know these women are incredible — the very best of the best — and almost all of them are my former teammates, who I have enjoyed very much cheering on the last few years.”

Skinner ruffled the feathers of the Team USA women’s gymnastics squad earlier this year.

“Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be. Just notice like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic,” Skinner said in a since-deleted YouTube video, according to the New York Post.

Skinner issued an apology in the days after the remarks went viral. But Biles and her teammates used it as fuel as they won the team final last week at the Paris Games.

Biles posted a collage of photos on Instagram showing her and her teammates carrying the American flag across the floor to celebrate their gold medal victory in the team final. In her post on Instagram, Biles did not mince words.

“Lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions,” she wrote.

Skinner said in her newest video she thought she had made up with Biles and was “heartbroken” over what the war of words has now become.

“But not just heartbroken because it isn’t what I feel or even how I previously said, but because Simone’s latest post and others that followed it fueled another wave of hateful comments, DMs, articles and emails. Hate that includes death threats to me, my family and even my agent. My family and my friends don’t deserve to be caught in the crossfire here. They’ve done nothing,” Skinner added.

You have been an incredible champion for mental health awareness, and a lot of people need your help now. We’ve been attacked in ways that I’m certain you never intended. Your performance, the team’s performance and the Olympics in general should be a time that we support one another.”

Medical examiner’s report details how Super Bowl hero died

Jacoby Jones, whose playoff success helped the Baltimore Ravens win the 2013 Super Bowl, died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease caused by long-term high blood pressure, according to a medical examiner’s office in Louisiana.

Jones was found in his home in New Orleans July 14 after dying in his sleep. The Orleans Parish coroner said it is listed as a natural death, according to WDSU-TV.

Jones spent three seasons with the Ravens. In addition to his charisma, Jones will also be remembered for his heroics in that Super Bowl over 11 years ago.

Jones hauled in a 56-yard touchdown pass during the game and opened the second half with a 108-yard kickoff return that helped lift the Ravens to a 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

He also caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco in the final seconds of the divisional playoff round against the Denver Broncos to send that game to overtime. The play is known as the “Mile High Miracle.” Baltimore won in double overtime, 38-35.

Jones was a third-round pick out of Lane College by the Houston Texans, and he played for the Chargers and Steelers before calling it a career in 2017.

Jones turned 40 three days prior to his death.
