RNC drops the hammer on battleground state over noncitizen voting concerns

The North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) is facing another lawsuit, as the Republican National Committee (RNC) is suing the battleground state for allegedly opening the door for non-citizens to vote.

The lawsuit brought by the RNC and the North Carolina Republican Party in Wake County last week accuses the NCSBE and members, Alan Hirsch, Jeff Carmon, Siobhan Millen, Stacy Eggers IV and Kevin Lewis of failing to require identification to prove citizenship.

The lawsuit alleges that by violating the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) and not checking the identification of approximately 225,000 voters, the agency “is opening the door for non-citizens to vote.”

North Carolina is the first state in the nation to start voting. The battleground state starts mailing out ballots for eligible voters on Sept. 6.

“The NCSBE has once again failed in its mandate to keep non-citizens off the voter rolls, fueling distrust and jeopardizing our elections,” RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said in a statement. “We are committed to the basic principle – and commonsense law – that only Americans decide American elections. Deliberately failing to follow the law, right before our country’s most important election, is inexcusable. We will fight every day to ensure that NCSBE follows the law, cleans the voter rolls, and protects the vote for North Carolinians.”

RFK JR. SUES NORTH CAROLINA TO REMOVE NAME FROM BALLOT BEFORE ELECTION

“This State Board continually has problems ensuring voter rolls only have verified citizens,” NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons added. “This lawsuit will remedy their ongoing refusal to collect the required information from those who want to take part in North Carolina elections. Accountability and fidelity to following the rule of law is long overdue for the most partisan Elections Board in state history.”

The state board formerly used a voter registration form that failed to require HAVA-required identification information, such as a driver’s license number or the last four digits of a Social Security number. Election officials admitted the form was non-compliant with HAVA and eventually fixed it, but in the meantime, approximately 225,000 people registered without supplying the HAVA-required information, the complaint says.

Election officials allegedly refused to take remedial action and did not reach out to these voters to collect the required information. Instead, what the defendants “offer as a solution is a half-hearted promise that those who were ineligible to register but were allowed to anyway will naturally filter themselves out from the state’s voter rolls when they conduct other election-related activities,” the complaint says.

“This inaction misses the mark,” the lawsuit says. “Not only does this ‘solution’ fail to remedy the ongoing violations of state and federal law or account for Defendants’ responsibilities under the same, but it leaves North Carolinians to wonder how they can trust in the security of their elections, especially when those tasked with protecting their rights cannot be bothered to do what is required by law.”

TRUMP RALLIES IN NC BEHIND BULLETPROOF GLASS AT FIRST OUTDOOR EVENT SINCE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

“Even worse, this ‘solution’ sends the message to the millions of duly qualified and registered voters in North Carolina that their chief elections officials will shirk their responsibilities and refuse to verify whether those who vote in the state’s elections are entitled to do so in the first place,” it adds.

Fox News Digital reached out to the NCSBE for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

This is the second lawsuit filed by the RNC and the NCGOP against the North Carolina Board of Elections in a matter of weeks.

Last month, Republicans sued the board for allegedly failing to check jury questionnaire responses to identify and remove non-citizens from the voter rolls, as required by law.

Last year, the state legislature passed SB747, a major election integrity law that requires state elections officials to cross-check when an individual claims to be a non-citizen on a jury questionnaire, to make sure that same person is not on the voter rolls. The RNC and NCGOP alleges that despite the law going into effect July 1, election officials have not begun to enforce it.

In February, North Carolina’s Office of State Budget and Management reported that approximately 325,000 “unauthorized” immigrants were residing in the state.

That was out of the total of 501,000 foreign-born non-citizens in North Carolina, according to the complaint in that case.

Last week, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. also sued the North Carolina State Board for denying his request to be removed from the state’s ballot before the November election. Despite the candidate dropping out of the race and endorsing former President Trump, the board decided in a 3-2 vote to keep Kennedy’s name because nearly 2 million ballots had already been printed.

Kennedy also was unable to remove himself from the ballot in the fellow battlegrounds of Michigan and Wisconsin.

US Marines ambushed in brazen attack caught on video during port visit

A mob of Turkish nationalists attacked U.S. Marines in western Turkey on Monday, resulting in the arrests of 15 people.

The incident took place in Izmir, which is located on Turkey’s Aegean coast. In a statement, the Izmir governor’s office said the assailants belonged to the Youth Union of Turkey, which is connected to the nationalist Vatan Party.

The governor said that the victims, who were assigned to the USS Wasp, were “physically attacked.” The service members were identified as “soldiers” by authorities, but are U.S. Marines.

Video posted to social media showed service members in civilian clothing yelling for help as they were restrained by a group of anti-American men.

The footage also shows an attacker throwing a plastic bag onto a victim’s head as the crowd chanted, “Yankee, go home!”

Five U.S. service members intervened during the incident, and authorities eventually arrested all 15 of the men who attacked the Marines.

The U.S. Embassy in Turkey confirmed the incident in a statement published on social media on Monday, and said that the Marines are safe.

“We can confirm reports that U.S. service members embarked aboard the USS Wasp were the victims of an assault in İzmir today, and are now safe,” the embassy said.

“We thank Turkish authorities for their rapid response and ongoing investigation.”

The U.S. Navy said the two Marines, aided by other Marines in the area, were taken to a local hospital as a precaution but were not injured, adding that the attacked Marines have returned to the USS Wasp.

“Local Izmir police and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service are cooperating in an investigation of the incident. No Marines have been detained by authorities and those involved are cooperating with investigators,” U.S. Navy Cmdr. Timothy Gorman, U.S. Sixth Fleet spokesperson said in a statement.

In a statement obtained by Reuters, the Youth Union of Turkey said the attack was “deserved” and criticized U.S. support of Israel.

“U.S. soldiers who carry the blood of our soldiers and thousands of Palestinians on their hands cannot dirty our country,” the nationalists said. “Every time you step foot in these lands, we will meet you the way you deserve.”

Teacher union boss distorts truth with claim about who murdered hostages

American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being partially responsible for the murders of hostages by Hamas in a post on Sunday.

“Our hearts are breaking for the families of the hostages Hamas murdered,” Weingarten wrote in a post on X. “At the same time anger must be placed at Netanyahu’s feet for his refusal to consummate cease fire/ hostage release deal.”

Hamas terrorists killed six hostages Saturday, including the Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, as Israel Defense Forces closed in for a rescue attempt in the tunnels deep below Gaza’s Rafah.

“According to our initial assessment, they were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists shortly before we reached them,” IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a statement over the weekend.

DEM LAWMAKER CALLS OUT CNN FOR BOTCHING HEADLINE ON HAMAS KILLING HOSTAGES

Weingarten was responding to a post on social media from United States ambassador to Israel Jack Lew’s statement on the murders.

“We are heartbroken and outraged at the news that Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages were killed in the hands of Hamas,” Lew wrote. “As President Biden and Secretary Blinken just said, we will not rest until all of the hostages are home. We grieve with Jon and Rachel Goldberg-Polin and their families, pray for them to find comfort, and commit to bringing all the other hostages safely home.”

FATHER OF ISRAELI-AMERICAN HOSTAGE PLEADS FOR DEAL ‘WITH SATAN’ BEFORE BIDEN, HARRIS ENTER SITUATION ROOM

Weingarten, a staunch progressive, received sharp criticism for the post from pro-Israel corners, including former U.S. Ambassador David Friedman. Listing out what supposed conditions of a deal Netanyahu violated, he wrote, “Maybe there was a great deal on the table that Bibi blew. But unless you can answer all these questions, your comment is just insensitive political drivel that further divides the Jewish people already in crisis.”

Netanyahu has vowed that his administration would finalize a deal with Hamas to ensure the return of the remaining hostages.

“For our part, we will not relent. The Government of Israel is committed, and I am personally committed, to continue striving toward a deal that will return all of our hostages and ensure our security and our existence,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

“I say to the Hamas terrorists who murdered our hostages and I say to their leaders: You will pay the price. We will not rest, nor will be silent. We will pursue you, we will find you, and we will settle accounts with you,” he also said.

Juror exposes critical mistake by Dem politician in high-profile murder trial

Former Democratic politician Robert Telles, who was convicted last Wednesday in the murder of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German, convinced jurors he was guilty when he testified that he was framed in a broad conspiracy, the jury foreman said.

Telles, 47, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years. Prosecutors said Telles stabbed German to death on Sept. 2, 2022 because he was angry with the journalist’s reporting. German had written stories critical of the Democrat and his workplace conduct – including allegations of an inappropriate romantic relationship with a female coworker – in the months before his death.

Meanwhile, Telles claimed that law enforcement and his political rivals framed him in the 69-year-old German’s murder to see him put behind bars

“That’s why when I went back there, I was a strong guilty at the beginning,” Gregory Whitney, the jury foreman, told 8 News Now on Monday. “I just couldn’t find the piece of evidence that he wanted us to find.”

ROBERT TELLS VERDICT: DEM VEGAS POLITICIAN ACCUSED OF KILLING JOURNALIST FOUND GUILTY, SENTENCED TO LIFE

Whitney and his 11 fellow jurors deliberated for the better part of three days, reviewing testimony from about 30 witnesses and 400 pieces of evidence including photos, videos and police reports.

“We just really wanted to just let everyone know what we really did look over everything from Point A to Point B, and we wanted to get him the best shot,” Whitney said. “I personally knew nothing about the guy, so I didn’t have any bias.”

Several jurors needed convincing that enough of the evidence pointed to Telles, he said. One juror, Whitney said, was initially undecided because she could not believe someone could make “so many little mistakes.”

DEM VEGAS POLITICIAN ACCUSED OF JOURNALIST MURDER TESTIFIES: ‘UNEQUIVOCALLY I’M INNOCENT’

“It sticks with you,” Whitney said. “When I was looking through a lot of those evidence photos, I saw stuff that’ll stay with me because it’s not a normal case. It was really one of those cases where you don’t believe that that could be a real story.”

“Unequivocally I’m innocent,” Telles declared on Aug. 22, the day that he testified “by way of narration” instead of in a standard question-and-answer format.

“I didn’t kill Mr. German,” Telles said. “When I share an opinion with you, that’s my right. And it’s your right to decide whether or not you agree with my opinion or not, whether you want to doubt my opinion or not. I’m just hoping that I’m not stopped from sharing with you what I have to say.”

His attorney, Robert Draskovich, had strongly advised Telles not to take the stand and risk questioning by prosecutors, Fox News Digital previously reported. Draskovich could not immediately be reached for comment on the verdict or the jury foreman’s comments.

DEM VEGAS POLITICIAN ACCUSED OF MURDER HAD HUNDREDS OF PHOTOS OF REPORTER’S HOME, NEIGHBORHOOD: TESTIMONY

After telling jurors about his background at length, Telles argued that the way German was killed was indicative of someone who knew what they were doing.

“The idea that Mr. German’s throat was slashed and his heart was stabbed, I don’t know if anybody can do that without training,” Telles said. “Somebody framed me for this and I believe it was Compass Realty, and it is related to the work I’ve done against them.”

Fox News Digital could not immediately reach Compass Realty for comment.

Fox 5 reported that Telles’ family looked puzzled during his testimony while jurors fastidiously took notes. At times, exhibits were not ready for Telles to show the jury; the judge told Telles to continue, despite Telles arguing that the jury needed to see them.

Telles will be additionally sentenced on enhancements for the fact that he used a deadly weapon and that his victim was older than 60 years old.

Supermodel disregarded doctors’ advice after breast cancer diagnosis

Stripping down to her intimates on the cover of magazines in swimsuits, supermodel Elle Macpherson has been called “The Body” for much of her illustrious career.

However, the Australian beauty has not shared all of herself with the public. She has been keeping her breast cancer diagnosis a secret for the last seven years.

Ahead of the release of her book, “Elle,” in November, Macpherson is shedding light on her battle and why, after seeking the advice of 32 doctors and experts, she chose to fight the cancer her own way.

“It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways,” the 60-year-old told Women’s Weekly of her diagnosis. “And it really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me… I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it. And that’s what I did.”

ELLE MACPHERSON ‘NEVER REGRETTED’ GETTING SOBER 20 YEARS AGO

Macpherson’s doctor reccommended a mastectomy with chemotherapy, radiation and hormone therapy. The doctor also suggested the model have reconstructive surgery on her breasts, but after weeks of consideration, Macpherson decided “an intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach” was the best way to fight her cancer.

“It was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen,” she shared.

Macpherson used integrative medicine, focusing on alternative therapies and changes to her lifestyle, confining herself to a home in Arizona for eight months under her doctor – who specializes in naturopathy – supervision. She also saw an osteopath, chiropractor, holistic dentist and two therapists.

In an excerpt from her book, Macpherson detailed how her immediate family reacted to her pursuing a non-pharmaceutical route.

The model shares sons Arpad “Flynn” Alexander Busson and Aurelius “Cy” Andrea Busson with ex-partner André “Arki” Arpad Busson. At the time of her diagnosis, her children were 19 and 14, respectively.

“Cy simply thought that chemo kills you. And so he never wanted me to do it because he thought that was a kiss of death. Flynn, being more conventional, wasn’t comfortable with my choice at all. He is my son, though, and would support me through anything and love me through my choices, even if he didn’t agree with them. My children were extremely supportive in their different ways, but I knew they felt very scared.”

“Arki was really supportive … He didn’t agree with what I was doing … Yet he wrote to me to tell me how proud he was of the courage I was showing. Of course, he was scared because I’d decided not to take a conventional pharmaceutical route. He considered that extreme. I, on the other hand, felt the chemo and surgery route was extreme.”

However, Macpherson acknowledged that her treatment plan is unique.

“I came to the understanding that there was no sure thing and absolutely no guarantees. There was no ‘right’ way, just the right way for me,” she wrote in her book. “I chose a holistic approach. Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. But saying no to my own inner sense would have been even harder.

“Sometimes an authentic choice from the heart makes no sense to others … but it doesn’t have to. People thought
I was crazy, but I knew I had to make
a choice that truly resonated with
me. To me, that meant addressing emotional as well as physical factors associated with breast cancer. It was time for deep, inner reflection. And that took courage.”

More than half a decade removed from her initial diagnosis, Macpherson said she is now doing well.

“In traditional terms, they’d say I’m in clinical remission, but I would say I’m in utter wellness. And I am!” she revealed.

“Truly, from every perspective, every blood test, every scan, every imaging test … but also emotionally, spiritually and mentally – not only physically. It’s not only what your blood tests say, it’s how and why you are living your life on all levels.”

Chiefs heiress’ college room makeover just a glimpse of the viral luxe trend

It’s back-to-school time this year as thousands of young adults have moved into — or are moving into, at this moment — their dorm rooms on college campuses around the country. They’re ready to embark on the next chapter of their lives.

Most dorm rooms are notorious for being small and mundane.

But things certainly have evolved from the modest furnishings of dorm rooms of a bygone era that consisted of a few decorative pillows, posters on the wall, random twinkle lights and maybe a basic and bare-bones desk lamp.

5 OF THE TRENDIEST MUST-HAVES FOR A COLLEGE STUDENT’S SHOPPING LIST

For some today, dorm rooms are customized and upgraded beyond expectations.

Chic students – and their proud parents – are posting photos of dorm room masterpieces that are professionally designed and color coordinated with high-end furnishings.

Recently, Kansas City Chiefs heiress Ava Hunt, 18, daughter of Tavia and Clark Hunt, created a lavish pink design scape of her Southern Methodist University dorm room in Texas that included neon lights, trendy décor and designer furniture.

Tavia Hunt posted pictures of her daughter’s dorm room on Instagram.

It included a sweet capture of an embrace of her daughter and one of her daughter posing in her lovely new digs.

Also, the photos included a sweet message wishing her daughter well.

The messages were heartwarming overall.

5 DORM ROOM ESSENTIALS TO GET YOUR COLLEGE STUDENT SET UP IN STYLE

What about other college kids moving into dorms right about now? What are the expectations and situations for millions of others?

And what’s at play in some — but not all — of today’s elaborate dorm-room designs?

Here are four key tips for keeping things grounded and realistic, with input from a mental health professional, for both parents and students.

1. Manage expectations to keep dorm rooms realistic and affordable

Amy Morin, a Florida-based psychotherapist and author of the book “13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don’t Do,” said there’s a lot of pressure for parents and college students to feel like they have to keep up with today’s outstanding dorm decorations.

“This may make some young people worry that they’re not going to fit in or it may make some parents feel guilty they can’t afford to overindulge,” Morin told Fox News Digital.

12 LAST-MINUTE DORM ROOM ESSENTIALS FOR SAVVY STUDENTS

“It could even leave some families thinking, ‘People like us don’t go to college because we can’t afford those things,'” she added.

2. Give dorm-room décor a reality check

While it’s nice to create an environment that is a reflection of one’s style and preferences, a dorm room is a temporary stop in one’s life, say experts.

“Dorm rooms aren’t meant to be lasting or permanent spaces.”

“The time spent in a dorm room is limited in the grand scheme of life and dorm rooms aren’t meant to be lasting or permanent spaces,” Morin said.

8 TRENDING BACK-TO-SCHOOL AND DORM ROOM ESSENTIALS

“Going over-the-top with decor for a very temporary situation is unnecessary,” she said, sharing her personal view.

3. Reflect on what’s really driving a desire to spend big bucks

Parents who go into debt to create a dorm-room fairy tale are likely trying to fulfill their own needs, Morin said.

Parents might be distracting themselves from their own sadness about a child going away, or they may be overindulging their child in one area because they secretly worry their child is lacking in another,” Morin told Fox News Digital.

Also, she noted that decorations can be a way to continue to treat college students like children.

“Many parents are upset that their children are growing up — so filling their rooms with stuffed animals and fairy-tale decorations helps them continue treating their students like they’re much younger children,” added Morin.

4. Remember that success at college isn’t determined by room décor

It’s unlikely that over-the-top dorm rooms are going to contribute to college or lifelong success.

Going off to college can be a great opportunity for parents to demonstrate to show what’s really important in life — including hard work and earning success.

“This is a prime opportunity to reinforce to your child what you really value, such as getting a good education, being kind to other people or trying new experiences,” Morin said.

Matt Damon’s surprising Supreme Court connection from days at Harvard

Hollywood actor Matt Damon crossed paths with Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson during a Harvard drama class.

Jackson claimed that she and the Oscar winner were paired as scene partners during a course at the prestigious Ivy League university.

“He’s not going to remember this, of course, but… for ‘Waiting for Godot,’” Jackson shared with “CBS Sunday Morning.”

“The reason why I remember it is because he was already kind of well-known around campus and off campus, so it was kind of exciting to be his scene partner for a particular class.”

The “Bourne Identity” actor was a year ahead of Jackson, she added. Jackson recalled that she and Damon memorized the scene from Samuel Beckett’s absurdist play.

“At the end, the professor said, ‘Ketanji, you were very good. Matt, we’ll talk.’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, I was better than Matt Damon in a scene!”

In 2022, a rep for Damon said the actor did not remember working with Jackson at Harvard but was still excited about the story.

“That’s so cool!” Damon told The Associated Press at the time. That same year, Jackson was sworn in as the country’s first Black female justice.

Damon did not finish his undergrad courses at Harvard University. He was reportedly 12 credits short of graduating in order to star in “Geronimo: An American Legend.”

Following his university days, the Hollywood actor starred in numerous Oscar-nominated films. He won the Academy Award alongside his good friend Ben Affleck for their popular screenplay, “Good Will Hunting.”
