New York Times admits Trump’s ‘wildest-sounding’ line about Harris is ‘basically true’
The New York Times admitted an explosive attack against Vice President Kamala Harris was “basically true” after running a fact-check saying former President Trump’s claim “needs context.”
Trump took aim at his progressive rival after CNN reported that Harris supported taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for illegal immigrants who are in custody, according to a 2019 ACLU questionnaire she filled out as a presidential candidate.
“Now she wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison,” Trump said during Tuesday’s presidential debate.
Times health reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg provided a fact-check as part of the paper’s live coverage of the debate that ruled Trump’s claim “needs context.”
ABC DEBATE MODERATORS SPARK FURY FOR AGGRESSIVE FACT-CHECKING OF TRUMP, EASY TREATMENT OF HARRIS
Except the context her fact-check provided just further confirmed Trump’s claim. In addition to quoting the ACLU questionnaire and Harris’ response, Stolberg wrote, “she said she supported using taxpayer funds to give access to gender-affirming care to transgender and nonbinary people, including those in immigration detention and prison.”
Stolberg did appear to knock CNN’s reporting by saying it “drew sharp criticism from supporters of gay, lesbian and transgender people” and later noted that a Harris campaign spokesman attempted to distance the vice president from her far-left stance, saying, “That questionnaire is not what she is proposing or running on.”
VOTERS GIVE HARRIS THE WIN, BUT PRAISE TRUMP ON POLICY: SHE GOT UNDER HIS SKIN
Conservative critics online mocked The Times’ “This needs context” label when the context supported Trump, instead of marking it true.
Fox News contributor Guy Benson wrote, “NYT: ‘Needs context!’ The context: It’s literally her position.”
Conservative digital strategist Greg Price similarly posted, “Trump: ‘She wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison.’ NYT: ‘This needs context’ The context: ‘Oh yeah she actually supported that.’”
The next day, in a report offering highlights from the political showdown, a Times article acknowledged there was validity to Trump’s comment, saying it was the “wildest sounding attack line that was basically true.”
The Times did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital‘s request for comment.
The rush to dismiss Trump’s attack on Harris was widespread across the legacy media. Time magazine was forced to issue a correction after declaring his claim as “false.”
“The original version of this story mischaracterized as false Donald Trump’s statement accusing Kamala Harris of supporting ‘transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison.’ As a presidential candidate in 2019, Harris filled out a questionnaire saying she supported taxpayer-funded gender transition treatment for detained immigrants,” the Time correction read.
TIME MAGAZINE ISSUES CORRECTION FOR CALLING CLAIM HARRIS SUPPORTED FUNDING MIGRANT SEX CHANGES ‘FALSE’
The New Yorker staff writer Susan Glasser wrote in a post-debate column, “”His line about how the Vice-President ‘wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison’ was pretty memorable, too. What the hell was he talking about? No one knows, which was, of course, exactly Harris’s point.”

The Atlantic’s Ali Breland was also quick to laugh off Trump’s claim, writing, “‘Transgender operations for illegal aliens in prison’ is a phrase ChatGPT would spit out if you fed it right-wing posts and asked it to parody them.”
After initially accusing Trump of “falsely” suggesting Harris wanted to provide transgender surgeries for illegal migrants, Breland’s article was updated to admit that’s what Harris actually told the ACLU.
Pope Francis sends message to American Catholics about choice for president
Pope Francis on Friday urged Catholic voters to “choose the lesser evil” between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The pope criticized Harris’ support of abortion rights as being an “assassination,” while he also chastised Trump, saying “not welcoming migrants is a sin.”
“You must choose the lesser evil,” Francis told reporters in a press conference held from his papal airplane following a 12-day tour of Southeast Asia and Oceania. “Who is the lesser evil? That lady, or that gentleman? I don’t know. Everyone, in conscience, [has to] think and do this.”
But he also said, “Not voting is ugly. It is not good. You must vote.”
WHITE HOUSE RESPONDS AFTER POPE CONDEMNS ‘GENDER THEORY,’ AFFIRMS BIDEN’S SUPPORT FOR TRANS COMMUNITY
Harris has said that she wants to codify Roe v. Wade into law if elected, and Trump has promised the “largest mass deportation in American history of our country.”
The pope didn’t specify which candidate, if either, he personally prefers.
On abortion, he said, “It is an assassination. On these things we must speak clearly. No ‘but’ or ‘however.'”
On Trump’s deportation plans, the pope said: “Not giving welcome to migrants is a sin. It is grave.”
“Whether it is the one who is chasing away migrants, or the one who that kills children, both are against life,” he claimed.
POPE FRANCIS RESPONDS TO CONSERVATIVE CRITICS IN NEW INTERVIEW
Trump previously sparred with the pope in 2016, after the pontiff claimed that his plan to build a wall along the Mexican border was “not Christian.”
“I’m a very good Christian,” Trump responded at the time in a news conference, “He’s questioning my faith. I was very surprised to see it.”
Trump called questioning a person’s faith “disgraceful,” claiming that the pope was being used as a “pawn” by the Mexican government.
The pope has also previously criticized President Biden’s stance on abortion. Biden is a Catholic, but supports a woman’s right to choose, which Francis called an “incoherence” in a 2022 interview, saying that he would leave it to Biden’s “conscience.”

Caitlin Clark shatters landmark WNBA record against defending champions
Caitlin Clark has done it again.
The Indiana Fever rookie sensation broke the WNBA’s single-season assist record with the 317th of her rookie season Friday against the Las Vegas Aces.
Clark was on the other end of seeing a landmark single-season record fall in the last meeting between the two teams just two days ago. On Wednesday, Aces veteran A’ja Wilson broke the league’s single-season scoring record with 956 points during an 86-75 Las Vegas win.

Prior to that, fellow rookie Angel Reese broke the WNBA’s single-season rebound record. Reese broke that record in the Chicago Sky’s 79-74 loss at Minnesota Sept. 1, when she surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ record of 404 set in 2018.
But Clark took back the spotlight Friday night.
WNBA ICON SHERYL SWOOPES EXPLAINS FALSE CAITLIN CLARK STATEMENTS, SPEAKS OUT AGAINST EX-FRIEND NANCY LIEBERMAN
Last Friday against the Minnesota Lynx, Clark drained her 103rd 3-pointer of the season, putting her in the top spot on the Fever’s all-time list for 3-pointers in a single season.
Just days before that, she recorded her 100th 3-pointer of the season when the Fever hosted the Los Angeles Sparks, reaching the milestone faster than any player in league history.
She also became the first rookie and the fifth WNBA player to record more than one triple-double in a season. The recently retired Candace Parker, along with Courtney Williams, Sabrina Ionescu and Alyssa Thomas are the other players in the exclusive club.
A week before that, against the Dallas Wings, Clark scored the 595th point of her career, surpassing WNBA legend Tamika Catchings for the most in a single season by a rookie in Fever history.
In her most recent game against Reese and the Sky Aug. 30, Clark had the first 30-point, 12-assist game in WNBA history while becoming just the fifth player, and first rookie, to record at least 30 points and 10 assists in a game. On top of that, Clark now has 12 double-doubles, which breaks the WNBA record for most double-doubles by a guard in a single season.

Just three days before that, Clark set the record for most made 3-pointers by a rookie, surpassing the mark initially set by the Atlanta Dream’s Rhyne Howard. She was 3-for-12 from downtown and finished with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists as Indiana picked up its 15th win.
That same night, Clark also became the first WNBA player to have at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists in six consecutive WNBA games. It was her 10th straight game with at least 15 points and five rebounds, which put her in the elite club with Diana Taurasi.
Clark has led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
Owner who sold ‘Billionaire Bunker’ at discount sues realtor for not disclosing buyer
The man who sold Jeff Bezos his posh mansion for $79 million near Miami Beach is suing the Realtor who handled the sale, saying the Realtor concealed the name of the buyer, potentially costing him up to $6 million.
Leo Kryss, co-founder of Brazilian toy and electronics company Tectoy, filed a lawsuit against Douglas Elliman, alleging the real estate firm’s CEO told him personally that Bezos was not the buyer of the seven-bedroom, 14-bathroom home, which sits on a 2.8-acre estate, according to The Wall Street Journal.
AMAZON’S JEFF BEZOS DROPPING $80 MILLION ON MASSIVE NYC ‘MEGA-HOME’
“Douglas Elliman failed to fulfill their duties to our client. … They knew or should have known who the ultimate beneficial purchaser was and misrepresented that very important fact to our client,” Dana Clayton, an attorney for Kryss, told the newspaper.
FOX Business has reached out to Bezos.
Kryss put the home up for sale last year with an $85 million price tag. Bezos initially purchased the property next door for $68 million. He later anonymously made a $79 million offer for Kyrss’s estate.
JEFF BEZOS SETS NEW LA REAL ESTATE RECORD WITH $165M BEVERLY HILLS BUY
Kyrss asked if Bezos was the person who put in the offer. His lawsuit states Douglas Elliman CEO Jay Parker said Bezos was not the buyer and that the purchaser would not agree to go above $79 million for the property.
The lawsuit alleges that Celine Klepach, the real estate agent who handled the sale, is the daughter of Benny Klepach, the mayor of Indian Creek, the newspaper reported.
He allegedly led Kryss to believe that the property was being bought for the Klepach family, the Journal reported.
After the sale. Kyrss learned that Bezos had made the offer. He wouldn’t have agreed to cut down the price by 7% had he known, Kryss’s lawsuit states.

Democrat congressman makes explosive Electoral College claim: ‘Can get you killed’
Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., slammed the Electoral College as an “obsolete” system from the 18th century that is deadly for Americans.
Raskin spoke with The Free Speech project at the Riggs Library in Washington D.C. on Friday. The congressman expounded on a variety of topics, particularly his efforts to discredit and ultimately circumvent the Electoral College in the name of protecting American democracy.
“We passed the nation’s first National Popular Vote Interstate Compact,” he said, touting his work. “We initiated that, we’re now more than two thirds of the way there, because it’s 2024. How about it’s time to start electing the president the way we elect mayors and representatives and senators and governors? Whoever gets the most votes, wins.”
He contrasted this with the Electoral College, which he argued can “get you killed.”
MSNBC HOST RAGES AFTER SEEING POLLS SHOWING TRUMP LEADING, CALLS ELECTORAL COLLEGE A ‘SUICIDE PACT’
“Rather than a convoluted, antique, obsolete system from the 18th century, which these days can get you killed as nearly it did on January 6, 2021,” he claimed.
“I mean, we were meeting [at the Capitol] just because of the formalities of the 12th amendment which say that you’ve got to have a joint session to count the Electoral College votes sent in by the governors under the certificates of ascertainment,” he said. “But we knew who had won the election. Everybody knew who had won the election, but we’re still going through these 18th century rituals and that’s what gave Donald Trump the opportunity to invoke the mob- ‘come here, we’ll be wild’ and then tell them to go and ‘fight and fight like hell’ or they wouldn’t have a country anymore.”
Raskin then argued that candidates should not win the White House if they lose the popular vote.
“So, look, we’ve had five popular vote losers in American history become president, twice in this century alone, in 2000 and 2016,” he said. “And I think the vast majority of American people think we should be electing the president just by having an election in seeing who gets the most votes, rather than this convoluted, rickety system where it all comes down to a handful of states, six or seven states instead of everybody’s vote counting equally everywhere in the country.”

Bruce Willis’ ex-wife Demi Moore shares update on the Hollywood A-lister’s condition
Demi Moore shared an update on ex-husband Bruce Willis’ condition as the actor battles frontotemporal dementia.
On Friday, the 61-year-old actress appeared on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” and the 49-year-old TV host reminisced about their time working together on the 2003 movie “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.” Willis made a small cameo at the beginning of the movie.
“When we did Charlie’s Angels, Bruce came and played on it, and he opens up the film. And we got to work with him,” Barrymore recalled.

“I mean, I used to know him when he was a bartender at Cafe Central!” she added. “I’ve known him my whole life, too. How is he right now?”
“Given the givens, he’s in a stable place,” Moore replied.
The “Ghost” star and Willis, 69, who were married from 1987 to 2000, share daughters Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Talullah, 30. Since their divorce, the former couple have remained close. Moore attended Willis’ 2009 wedding when he married his second wife, Emma Heming Willis, with whom he shares daughters Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10.
In 2019, Moore was also in attendance when Willis and Emma renewed their vows on their 10th wedding anniversary.
“When I’m in LA, I go over every week, and I really treasure the time that we all share.”
Moore also shares a close relationship with Emma, and the blended family frequently celebrates holidays and birthdays together. In 2020, they quarantined together as a family in Idaho during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While speaking with Barrymore, Moore shared the advice she gives her daughters as they cope with their father’s health struggles.
“What I say to my kids is you meet them where they’re at. You don’t hold on to who they were or what you want them to be, but who they are in this moment,” Moore explained. “And from that, there is such beauty and joy and loving and sweetness.”

Moore explained that she makes an effort to spend as much time with Willis and their family as possible.
“When I’m in LA, I go over every week, and I really treasure the time that we all share,” she said.
In March 2022, the “Die Hard” star stepped away from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia. In February 2023, the Willis family shared that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia.
In May, Rumer gave an update on Willis’ health in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“He’s great. Yeah, yeah, doing OK. Thank you so much for asking,” Rumer said at the premiere of her new film, “My Divorce Party,” at the 24th Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival.
“I think, for me, through this experience, what’s been so incredible is my dad is so beloved, and that’s been so evident in the transparency with which we’ve been sharing,” she continued.

Neuroscientist, former wrestler weighs in on star QB’s future after nightmare injury
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has dealt with a series of concussions over the past 24 months.
The latest head injury happened during the Dolphins’ 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in the first “Thursday Night Football” game of the season. Tagovailoa collided with Bills safety Damar Hamlin in the second half, resulting in the third confirmed concussion the quarterback has been diagnosed with since he entered the NFL.
Thursday’s health scare again sparked debate about whether the 26-year-old quarterback should step away from football.
Neuroscientist Chris Nowinski, a former professional wrestler who also played college football at Harvard, weighed in on Tagovailoa’s situation.

“Tua suffered a traumatic brain injury on this play, no question,” Nowinski wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “His right arm shows the “fencing posture” indicating loss of consciousness & is on the severe end on the #concussion spectrum. He is done for the night and must miss the next game.”
DOLPHINS’ TUA TAGOVAILOA FACES CALLS TO RETIRE FROM NFL AFTER LATEST CONCUSSION: ‘IT’S NOT WORTH IT’
Nowinski last competed in WWE in 2003 under the name Chris Harvard. Since stepping away from professional competition, Nowinski has become one of the more prominent voices for concussion awareness.
He also holds a Ph.D. in behavioral neuroscience from Boston University.
Elsewhere, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant called on Tagovailoa to retire from the NFL, citing “his longevity” and “health concerns.”
Other former players chimed in, including three-time Super Bowl winner Shannon Sharpe.
“Really hope Tua is ok, but he’s gotta seriously think about shutting it dwn. I H8 saying this. His concussions are getting worse and worse and he’s a young man with his entire life ahead of him,” Sharpe wrote in a social media post.
Nowinski stopped short of calling on Tagovailoa to end his football career. He instead highlighted the importance of the quarterback’s recovery from his most recent head injury.
“There is no magic number of concussions to require retirement,” he said. “It all depends on how he recovers from this one, but having too many concussions can lead to chronic symptoms and mental health disorders. He’s in a very tough spot.”
Nowinski also pointed to the predicament a doctor could end up with by advising Tagovailoa to call it quits.
“Here is a difficult truth,” said Nowinski. “Doctors who advise star athletes to retire – in the absence of symptoms lasting >1 year, brain bleeds or gross MRI changes – can get blacklisted. Many docs may advise Tua to retire based on his frequent concussions alone. Tua may not see those doctors.”

Tagovailoa was running with the football seeking a first down in the third quarter of Thursday’s game and lowered his shoulder instead of sliding as Hamlin approached. The 26-year-old signal-caller stayed on the turf for a few minutes as medical personnel attended to him. Tagovailoa was eventually able to walk to the Dolphins’ sideline.
The Dolphins plan to add another quarterback to their roster while Tagovailoa works through his latest concussion. However, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel made it clear Tagovailoa’s health was everyone’s primary focus.
Backup quarterback Skylar Thompson will likely step into the starting role for Miami’s game against the Seattle Seahawks Sept. 22.
