Trump clashes with journalist during economic policy interview: ‘It must be hard for you…’

Former President Trump said the Republican Party is “the party of common sense” Tuesday during a contentious interview with Bloomberg News in Chicago.

Trump sat for an interview with Bloomberg News’ editor-in-chief John Micklethwait at the Economic Club of Chicago. The two discussed Trump’s plans for the economy in a potential second term during a heated interview that lasted nearly an hour.

Micklethwait spoke about the economy to start, but later got into the state of the presidential race, asking the former president which state he believed was most critical to deciding the election.

TRUMP REVEALS WHICH ELECTION ISSUE IS A ‘BIGGER DEAL’ THAN INFLATION AND THE ECONOMY

“They say Pennsylvania. I think we’re doing very well there. I think you look at Michigan, too, and I’m doing very well,” Trump said. “We’re way up in Pennsylvania. We’re way up in Michigan. We’re doing very well in Arizona. In fact, somebody said they’re going to pull the plug in Arizona – they’re going to give it up because it looks like we’re quite a ways ahead.”

A RealClearPolitics polling average as of Tuesday afternoon showed Trump slightly ahead in Pennsylvania, as well as in Arizona and Michigan.

Trump went on to say that the Republican Party is “the party of common sense.”

“Forget about conservative, liberal. We’re, let’s say, conservative, but we’re really a party of ‘We need borders. We need fair elections. We don’t want men playing in women’s sports. We don’t want transgender operations without parental consent,’” Trump explained. “It is 99.9% common sense. It really is common sense. I say we’re really a party of common sense, and we want to have great people in our country.”

Trump added: “I have a good heart. I have a heart where I want people to be taken care of. But I don’t want to take in people where millions of people – 21 million people at least have come in the last three and a half years unvetted, unchecked. We don’t know anything about them.”

Micklethwait began Tuesday’s interview by claiming Trump’s economic plan would drive up debt and inflation, with the former president claiming that he served in office without inflation.

“Yeah, I had four years – no inflation,” Trump said.

Micklethwait also hit Trump on his plan for tariffs on foreign goods, but Trump fired back, explaining that foreign countries will pay a “100% tariff on everything sold into the United States.”

Earlier this year, Trump rolled out a plan to eliminate China’s most favored nation trade status and impose universal baseline 10% tariffs on imports. In private, Trump has even floated tariffs as high as 60% on Chinese goods. Economists have warned that increasing tariffs would also cause an increase in prices for everyday goods due to American companies relying on cheap raw materials from China.

Micklethwait said Trump’s plans would “have a serious effect on the overall economy.”

“It’s going to have a massive effect – positive effect. It’s going to be a positive effect,” Trump replied. “It must be hard for you to spend 25 years talking about tariffs as being negative and then have somebody explain to you that you’re totally wrong.”

Micklethwait fired back at Trump, saying he could be “plunging America into the biggest trade war.”

“No, there are no tariffs – all you have to do is build your plant in the United States and you don’t have any tariffs,” Trump said. “That’s what I want.”

The former president’s response was met with applause from the audience.

“The higher the tariff, the more likely it is that the company will come into the United States and build a factory in the United States so it doesn’t have to pay the tariff,” Trump explained.

As for national security and foreign policy, Trump touted his relationships with adversaries, like Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying the United States was respected under his administration.

Trump was asked if he would send American troops to defend Taiwan if China invaded. The Chinese military are currently engaged in rehearsals for a naval blockade of the island nation.

“The reason they’re doing it now is because they’re not going to do it afterward,” Trump said – a response met with applause from the audience.

Trump was also asked if he has spoken to Putin since he left office, to which he replied: “I don’t comment on that.”

“But I will tell you that if I did, it’s a smart thing,” Trump said. “If I’m friendly with people, if I can have a relationship with people, that’s a good thing, not a bad thing, in terms of a country.”

“President Trump was in his element as he spoke passionately about restoring economic growth, prosperity, and opportunity for all Americans,” his campaign wrote in an email to supporters following the interview, adding that he “put on a master class outlining his plan to return American citizens and businesses to the successes they enjoyed during his first term.”

The campaign added: “Kamala could NEVER.”

The Trump campaign touted the former president’s responses and policies, and added: “President Trump did it once with record success – and he’ll do it again.”

Rapper’s blunt message for people trying to ‘shame’ him into voting for VP Harris

Lord Jamar, a rapper, producer, and actor from shows like “The Sopranos,” scorched Vice President Kamala Harris and her supporters during a recent interview and instead praising former President Trump’s leadership.

As the election draws closer, Harris’ campaign sees itself not only vulnerable with men in general, but with Black men, in particular. While Harris has made numerous attempts to gain support from men and Black America, male commentators from radio host Charlamagne Tha God to comedic actor Eddie Griffin have warned that she may not be successful, and that Trump himself has a unique appeal to Black men.

“This woman, to me, is not qualified to run, you know, a Dunkin Donuts or a 7-11, let alone the corporation that we call the United States of America,” Jamar, a founding member of Brand Nubian, said in an interview with “The Art of Dialogue” on Saturday.

He went on to argue that Trump’s past service as President of the United States itself debunks liberal fearmongering about him becoming a dictator.

RAPPER 50 CENT SAYS ‘MAYBE TRUMP IS THE ANSWER’ AFTER SEEING NYC GIVE PREPAID CREDIT CARDS TO MIGRANTS

“People want to act like Trump is the worst motherf—– in the world, but guess what? He was already president and all this s— that you’re talking about didn’t happen,” he said. “He didn’t make himself a dictator and this whole s— about ‘he’s going to make himself a dictator’ is really taken so out of context that it’s ridiculous. He said he’d make himself a dictator on the first day, you know, to do some – implement some s— and then, you know, but that was, trust me, said tongue-in-cheek, it was not said seriously.”

Harris, he said, gives him greater concern, nicknaming modern Democratic Party policy “Project 2024” and warning he may vote Trump to prevent it.

“Y’all already living in Project 2024 okay? You worried about Project 2025 when they already ran Project 2020 on you with the scamdemic and all that f—— bulls—-. Like… what the f— are y’all really even talking about? Y’all trying to act like… Scare me into thinking that he’s so much – so bad that I should just vote for this broad just because?” he said. “But guess what? I feel that she’s so bad – I – she’s the one that scares me! So I feel that she’s so bad that guess what I might just go f— around and vote for Trump and this is my first time saying this out loud but y’all motherf—— think you’re gonna shame somebody or bully a n—- into voting for this b—-? Absolutely not.”

Jamar said that he isn’t the only one either, and that Black Americans “in the real world” aren’t behind Harris.

“Trust me the sentiment on the street in the real world is a lot of people are not f—— with this woman. They see right through her, and they’re trying to blame it on Black men, but no, I see a lot of Black women that are not f—— with her neither.”

In contrast to Harris, he praised Trump for using macho tactics to ensure “no wars” during his presidency.

“Let’s keep it real a n—- like Trump. First of all, there was no wars when Trump was in – was the president, how about that? There was no wars going on while Trump was president. This mother—— was doing gangster s— to n—– like in the Taliban showing them pictures of their house from a satellite,” he said.

Jamar summarized the Trump presidency’s message to them as “Touch a hair on an American’s head we going to bomb the s— out of your crib. For 18 months after that no American was touched.”

He also mentioned a time he sent someone to go interview people at a packed Trump rally in Long Island, and the stark contrast between the Trump supporters versus the anti-Trump protesters outside.

“He said as a Black man he felt no racism whatsoever out there, he was – they actually like… brought him in type of s—, you know what I mean? Like, he felt welcomed to be there by the people that was there,” he said. “Who he didn’t feel welcomed by were the demonstrators that were against Trump, they were the ones looking at him like ‘Oh! What are you doing over there!?’”

NFL chooses site for Super Bowl LXII in 2028, marking city’s fourth time hosting

In less than three and a half years from now, NFL officials, players, thousands of football fans, and others will descend upon Atlanta for Super Bowl LXII.

During the NFL’s annual fall meeting, team owners voted in favor of Atlanta serving at the host city for the big game in 2028. The city previously hosted three Super Bowls, with the most recent one happening in 2019 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta. The Atlanta Falcons begin playing at the retractable roof stadium in 2017.

The now demolished Georgia Dome hosted the big game on two previous occasions.

Filmmaker’s daughter shuts down critics after late father’s movie used by Trump campaign

The daughter of famed filmmaker Stanley Kubrick announced her late father would be a supporter of former President Trump after the Republican presidential candidate used footage from Kubrick’s military film, “Full Metal Jacket,” in a campaign video.

In a post on X, Trump interspersed realistic boot camp scenes from the iconic film with clips of U.S. military service members dressed in drag to warn about the “woke military” under President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Transgender Biden administration official Adm. Rachel Levine is also shown in the video announcing the “Summer of Pride.”

“America’s military president Donald J. Trump vs. Comrade Kamala Harris,” the text on screen reads. “Let’s make our military great again.”

In a post on X, Kubrick’s daughter, Vivian Kubrick, responded to critics who believed her late father “wouldn’t have wanted Trump to use FMJ [“Full Metal Jacket”] footage,” saying she was “very confident” her father “would be a Trump supporter” if he were alive today.

TRUMP VOWS TO FIRE GENERALS WHO PUSH WOKENESS: ‘YOU CAN’T HAVE A WOKE MILITARY’

“Here are my thoughts: I agree in principle that an anti-war movie is incongruous with promoting the idea of a tough non-woke US military and thus war itself – however – these are very dangerous and strange times and thus using this footage is doubtless pure expedience. Because I’m sure the irony of using FMJ footage is not lost on Trump or his team – Trump is always seeking to end wars and use peaceful methods,” she wrote.

“However, that’s primarily what FMJ is about, the shocking and complicated paradoxes of human nature. And thus, on this tooth and claw planet, you need a very strong military – so I’m going to stick with the idea that FMJ footage was used primarily because of its powerful, realistic portrayal of boot camp, juxtaposed with the entirely demoralizing and inappropriate injection of WOKE ideology into the USA military. Which I agree with myself and which I’m certain my father would have agreed with.”

“Truthfully, I believe my father (who supported Reagan), would very much approve of saving America, indeed the world, from the highly destructive Globalist forces threatening to take over this planet. And if that footage from FMJ helps Trump make the point that the US military needs properly trained, super tough, focused, dedicated warriors, and not introduce the demoralizing effects of woke-ism, and attracting people to join up simply to have their sexual reassignments paid for, then Trump has my blessing.”

“Finally, knowing my father very well, I can assure you he had a profound grasp of how paradoxical human nature is! Which accounts for how at the same time he made anti-war films, he had a great passion for guns (self-defense not hunting) and he had quite a few! My father had a great respect for life – his movies being unimpeachable evidence of his love for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! So on that basis, I feel very confident he would be a Trump supporter and would forgive using FMJ incongruously, if it helps the cause of freedom!” she concluded.

Over the past few years, service members and Republicans have sounded the alarm about “woke” DEI initiatives being pushed into the U.S. military by the Biden administration that they say are worsening the recruitment crisis.

Heading into 2024, Fox News Digital reported that the number of active duty service members had declined by 64,000 over the last three years, bringing the total number of troops down to 1,284,500, according to the Defense Authorization Bill. This means the U.S. military will field the smallest force since before World War II.

In May of 2023, the U.S. Navy revealed that it had reached out to a “drag queen influencer” to help with the Navy’s “challenging recruiting environment.”

Hollywood bombshell unrecognizable as she channels role of famous athlete

It’s hard to miss actress Sydney Sweeney with her enviable figure, bright blonde locks and killer smile.

But if you were in Charlotte, North Carolina, over the weekend, you could have walked right past her without even knowing.

New photos of the starlet looking unrecognizable were taken on the set of her upcoming movie, reportedly titled “Black Bear,” on Sunday.

The “Euphoria” actress was accompanied by a woman who held an umbrella over the actress’ shaggy brown locks (presumably a wig) wrapped with a blue bandanna. The actress wore a baggy sweatshirt and sweatpants, disguising her tiny frame.

Not much is known about the film where Sweeney plays real-life boxer Christy Martin. However, in May, Sweeney told Deadline that she was excited to “transform” her body to be well-equipped to portray the athlete.

“I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body,” she shared. “Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.”

Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse,” she told the outlet. “I’m passionate about the fighting world, Christy’s story shines a light on her incredible rise to the top while showing the struggles of fame behind the curtains. I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn’t allow it to defeat her. It’s powerful, and emotional.”

This isn’t the first movie where Sweeney has portrayed a real person. In the upcoming film “Eden,” directed and produced by Ron Howard, Sweeney plays Margret Wittmer, who famously settled on Floreana Island.

In 2023, Sweeney played the titular role in “Reality” as Reality Winter, who is known for leaking American intelligence. In 2019, she played Dianne “Snake” Lane, a young member of the Manson family cult in the movie “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.”

In an interview with Variety given earlier this year after the success of her film, “Anyone But You,” (also starring Glen Powell), Sweeney said she loved pushing the boundaries as an actress.

Speaking about her movie “Immaculate,” which she not only starred in but also produced, Sweeney said, “I love finding places that I didn’t know I could unlock – pushing the boundaries and the limits of what people expect to see from me.”

“I wish that I had a formulaic answer for how I did it. But whenever a director calls ‘action,’ it’s just like a switch. And I allow all of Sydney’s thoughts and feelings and emotions to disappear. And I am now whatever character I’m playing – I’m Cecilia at the moment. I don’t like to rehearse; I don’t plan what is going to happen. What you saw [in the film’s final moments] was the first take.”

Major discount retailer announces it’s closing more stores — see the full list

Big Lots aims to permanently close the doors of more than 50 stores.

The discount retailer disclosed its intentions of shuttering 56 more locations in a Friday filing to the bankruptcy court overseeing its Chapter 11 proceedings.

The new stores set for closure are located in numerous states, including California, Texas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois, Arkansas, Alabama, Connecticut, Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, Colorado, Missouri, Washington, Arizona, Maryland, Kansas, Louisiana, Florida, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

Relevant parties have until Wednesday afternoon to object to the planned closures, per the notice.

BIG LOTS FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY, WILL CLOSE SOME STORES AMID SALE TO INVESTMENT FIRM

The locations would add to the numerous stores that the discount retailer has already closed this year.

Big Lots launched Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings early last month to help facilitate the sale of “substantially all” of its assets to its “stalking horse bidder” Nexus Capital Management.

In early September, the discount retailer said its board had concluded “entering into the Sale Agreement with Nexus, and initiating a court-supervised sale process, is the best path forward to maximize value and ensure continued operations.” Nexus must be the winning bidder of a court-supervised auction for the transaction to close.

Big Lots also said at the time that the Chapter 11 proceedings would involve more location closures.

“Though the majority of our store locations are profitable, we intend to move forward with a more focused footprint to ensure that we operate efficiently and are best positioned to serve our customers,” CEO Bruce Thorn said. “To accomplish this, we intend to use the tools afforded by this process to continue optimizing our store fleet in an orderly manner.”

Prior to its Chapter 11 petition, reports had suggested a potential bankruptcy filing from Big Lots was coming.

The discount retailer is known for selling home goods, furniture, seasonal decorations and other products.
