A wife drove her estranged husband’s alleged lover out of her NHS job by wrongly calling her “transgender” and posting a bizarre parcel full of her text messages to her workplace, a court heard.
Andrea Savage, 55, branded Louise Young a “homewrecker” and told her to pay for her divorce from Paul Savage in a string of messages over the Christmas period last year.
Matters came to a head when Savage sent a parcel containing A4 printouts of 100 texts Miss Young had shared with Mr Savage to her workplace.
The incident left the NHS therapist feeling “physically sick” and so uncomfortable about being targeted at her office that she left her job.
Savage, of Cheshire, wept at Warrington magistrates’ court as she was convicted of harassment and sentenced to a 12-month community order.
She was also handed a one-year restraining order and fined £200, along with £764 in costs and a victim surcharge.
Savage denied wrongdoing and during the hearing claimed that Mr Savage had cheated on her with Miss Young during their marriage.
In a statement to the police, Miss Young said: “I’ve been caused months of stress and I still cannot understand why Andrea went to such length to intimidate me and scare me, goading me about Paul’s love for her.
“I’ve tried to remain neutral in the exchanges between Andrea and Paul and I had no idea that her abusive texts would escalate to such aggressive behaviour…
“I worked as a therapist and often received catalogues and I just presumed the bundle of printed-out texts was a catalogue. It was only when I opened the parcel and took out the papers in the office that I realised the content.
“I felt physically sick. The messages were in large print, each message on a page and I was frightened.
“I did not know what to expect as she had made threats to contact my manager which caused me anxiety.”
She added: “It’s been emotionally overwhelming and I have found Andrea provocative, vindictive, nasty, and unpredictable and this has left me dealing with feelings of fearfulness and anxiety every day since the last year.”
Sentencing Savage, Deputy District Judge John Rowan told her: “Your account was that while you did accept sending the messages to Miss Young it was a two-way street – you did not cause her harassment and you would not have foreseen that she would be caused harassment.
“But that was not accepted. Miss Young describes feeling anxious. She describes feeling upset at your behaviour. She describes having to leave her place of work because of what has happened and the ongoing mental anxiety and upset.
“I agree distress was caused and some psychological harm and there was some impact on Miss Young.
“But I have read from those who know you, [that] you are described as a good mother, a good person, and how this matter has and will continue to have an impact on you. But the impact on the complainant in these matters cannot be understated.”
