What Trump told Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago that triggered nervous laughter

President-elect Trump suggested to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week that if a tariff for failing to address trade and immigration issues would kill the neighbor to the north’s economy, maybe it should become the 51st state, sources told Fox News.

Last Friday, Trudeau flew to Mar-a-Lago unannounced after Trump threatened to impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian products. Specifically, Trump is threatening to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico over their failures to curb the flow of illegal immigrants and illicit drugs from those countries into the U.S.

Now, new details are beginning to emerge about the meeting between the two men, which Trump called “very productive.”

Before nibbling on crab cocktail and slurping down oysters, the issues of tariffs, border security and trade deficits were front and center.

TRUMP BOASTS OF ‘VERY PRODUCTIVE MEETING’ WITH CANADIAN PM TRUDEAU AT MAR-A-LAGO

According to two people at the table who heard the discussion, Trump, while cordial and welcoming, was very direct when it came to what he wants from his counterpart to the North.

Paraphrasing the discussion, Trump told Trudeau that Canada has failed the U.S. border by allowing large amounts of drugs and people across the border, including illegal immigrants from over 70 different countries.

Sources say Trump became more animated when it came to the U.S. trade deficit with Canada, which he estimated to be more than $100 billion.

MUSK, STALLONE AMONG STAR-STUDDED NAMES PARTYING AT TRUMP’S MAR-A-LAGO CLUB FOR THANKSGIVING

The president-elect told the prime minister if Canada cannot fix the border issues and trade deficit, he will levy a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods on day one when he returns to office.

Trudeau told Trump he cannot levy the tariff because it would kill the Canadian economy completely. Trump replied – asking, so your country can’t survive unless it’s ripping off the U.S. to the tune of $100 billion?

Trump then suggested to Trudeau that Canada become the 51st state, which caused the prime minister and others to laugh nervously, sources told Fox News.

MEXICAN PRESIDENT MIGHT BE CHANGING VIEW ON US AS TRUMP WIN SENDS WARNING TO RULING SOCIALISTS

But he continued, telling Trudeau that prime minister is a better title, though he could still be governor of the 51st state.

Sources told Fox News someone at the table chimed in and advised Trump that Canada would be a very liberal state, which received even more laughter. Trump suggested that Canada could possibly become two states: a conservative and a liberal one.

He told Trudeau that if he cannot handle his list of demands without ripping the U.S. off in trade, maybe Canada should really become a state or two and Trudeau could become a governor.

While sources say the exchange got many laughs, Trump delivered the message that he expected change by January 20.

The nearly three-hour conversation continued about various other topics, and at the end, the Canadian guests called the dinner “very friendly and very positive,” though no reference was made about becoming the 51st state.

Fox News Digital has reached out to both the Trump camp and Trudeau’s team about the statements, though neither immediately responded.

Single congressional race stands between Republicans and 1-seat majority

House Republicans could begin the new year grappling with a one-seat majority, a perilously slim margin for the 119th Congress as President-elect Donald Trump guns for an active first 100 days.

Last-minute GOP losses and exits in favor of the new administration mean Republicans could begin that period with precious little room for dissent, and one congressional race could decide the difference between a likely one- or two-seat majority.

JOHNSON BLASTS DEM ACCUSATIONS HE VOWED TO END OBAMACARE AS ‘DISHONEST’

In California’s 13th Congressional District, Rep. John Duarte, R-Calif., is fighting for his political life against Democrat Adam Gray.

As of Monday afternoon, Gray leads Duarte by a few hundred votes – a margin of roughly 0.1%. California state law mandates that counties certify their election results by Dec. 5.

If Democrats flip the seat, the House would have 220 Republicans and 215 Democrats heading into the New Year.

However, three Republican lawmakers’ departures are expected to whittle that down further. Now-former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., resigned from the 118th and 119th Congresses amid consideration to be Trump’s attorney general.

MIKE JOHNSON WINS REPUBLICAN SUPPORT TO BE HOUSE SPEAKER AGAIN AFTER TRUMP ENDORSEMENT

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., was tapped to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., was named national security adviser.

All three lawmakers represent deep-red districts, so there is little concern their seats will fall into Democrats’ hands.

However, with special elections to replace Gaetz and Waltz set for April 1, and Stefanik’s not yet scheduled, the GOP may spend nearly all of their first 100 days controlling Washington’s power centers with a one-seat majority in the House.

House GOP Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., brushed off concerns about the prospects of holding a one- or two-seat edge in a recent television interview on FOX Business.

REPUBLICANS PROJECTED TO KEEP CONTROL OF HOUSE AS TRUMP PREPARES TO IMPLEMENT AGENDA

“That’s essentially what we’ve had over the last year, for better parts of the last year,” Emmer told “The Bottom Line.”

“I’ve got to tell you, I don’t give a darn whether it’s 222, 225, 218. As long as we have a majority, we can deliver with Donald J. Trump for the American people.”

Ultimately, there is little daylight between a one- or two-seat majority, but if the 118th Congress is any indication, the numbers set up House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., with a tricky political situation.

House Republicans’ slim margins over the last two years enabled different factions of the GOP to paralyze the chamber floor at times over disagreements on government funding and other critical legislative fights.

Lawyer ejected from council meeting for waving American flag to protest new ban

A New Jersey resident was escorted out of a town council meeting for waving an American flag in protest of a new rule that bans such items, including the U.S. Constitution and other “props” from the public comment portion of town meetings.

Last week, the Township of Edison, NJ passed an ordinance that cuts down the time residents have to address the council and forbids them from using “props” in their remarks, including American flags, during public comments, MyCentralJersey.com reported.

Residents immediately pushed back against the rule, arguing during a five-hour meeting on Nov. 25 that it was in violation of their First Amendment rights and a “disgusting” attempt to silence those looking to speak up for their community.

NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYS HE’LL ‘FIGHT TO THE DEATH’ AGAINST TRUMP ACTIONS ‘CONTRARY TO VALUES’

“To consider the American flag and the Constitution a prop when someone raises it is an insult to what the flag is, what the flag stands for and what this country is,” resident Maryann Hennessey told council members.”For you to consider the use of the American flag a prop is disgusting.”

Resident Joel Bassoff, a lawyer from Edison, held a small American flag in his hand as he addressed the council, warningthat they could face legal action for restricting residents in this manner.

“I’m holding up an American flag to represent the constitutional values,” Bassoff said.

In video of the exchange, Council President Nishith Patel can be heard banging his gavel before giving Bassoff an official warning.

“It’s my constitutional right to do this,” Bassoff said. “If you get sued, you will lose. My suggestion to you is that you get a second opinion from competent counsel because you are wrong.”

Residents can be heard clapping as Bassoff continued. “You are interfering with the decorum of this meeting by interfering with the right to speech of a member of the public. And it should stop now,” he said.

As he looked down to proceed, police officers appeared behind him.

“His time is forfeited,” Patel told the officers.

COURT REJECTS PENNSYLVANIA TOWNSHIP’S BAN OF ‘THIN BLUE LINE’ BAN AS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

“Your time should be forfitted, your positions should be fortified,” Bassoff replied. “By your actions you forfeit every right to preside over this meeting.”

Patel then instructed the officers to have Bassoff “removed.” A resident can be heard yelling “shame on you” from the audience. Bassoff agreed to step away from the podium, stating “I’m ready to sit here quietly, and I will not interfere with your decorum – so I have a right to be here.”

The council members then voted for a five-minute recess as the officers escorted Basoff out of the room.

The ordinance O.2239-2024, seeks to establish rules to maintain decorum at township council meetings that have recently devolved into chaos and have become a subject of mockery. In October, a man dressed as a Bong was removed after taking the podium in full costume. One resident described council meetings of late as “a three-ring circus.”

The ordinance doesn’t explicitly ban the American Flag or the US Constitution, but when questioned on the matter, Patel told residents, “any props will be considered not conducive to good order and as the president, I am making that call.”

Patel did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Twist in case of driver accused in DUI crash that killed bride on wedding night

A South Carolina woman who was charged with killing a bride on her wedding night in a DUI crash last April pleaded guilty as her trial was set to begin on Monday.

Jury selection was set to begin in the trial of Jamie Komoroski, 27, who police said was more than three times the legal limit when she crashed into a golf cart carrying newlyweds Samantha Miller, 34, and her groom, Aric Hutchinson, 36, on their wedding night, killing Miller.

A judge sentenced Komoroski to 25 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to one count of felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death and one count of reckless homicide, WCSC reported.

When questioned about her decision to plead guilty to the charges, Komoroski told the court she was guilty, was not persuaded into entering the guilty pleas and was waiving a jury trial.

FAMILY OF SOUTH CAROLINA BRIDE KILLED ON HER WEDDING NIGHT AWARDED $1.3M SETTLEMENT

“I feel like the punishment fit the crime,” Hutchinson told WCSC after the sentencing. “I do think she’s sorry. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Sam’s not here, my wife’s not here, the family we planned, all of our injuries. So that’ll take some time for sure.”

Investigators say that on April 28, 2023, Komoroski was going 65 mph in a 25 mph zone when she slammed her rental car into Miller and her husband while they were leaving their reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina.

Miller died from her injuries, while Hutchinson suffered two broken legs, multiple broken bones in his face and brain injuries.

Hutchinson, along with Miller’s family, spoke before the court on Monday about the void that Komoroski left them with.

“Do you know what it’s like to vow to protect your wife, do nothing for her and then lose her hours later?” Hutchinson asked Komoroski.

“She told me she didn’t want the night to end, and I kissed her on the forehead, and then the next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital,” Hutchinson recalled.

Lisa Miller, the mother of the deceased bride, described to the court the pain she suffered and relived the last time she hugged her daughter, which was during a dance at the wedding reception just hours before the fatal crash.

HARD-PARTYING SC WOMAN CHARGED WITH KILLING BRIDE ON WEDDING NIGHT ADMITTED TO ALCOHOLISM: JAILHOUSE CALLS

Komoroski addressed the Miller and Hutchinson families and said she was ready to receive whatever punishment the judge saw fit for her choices.

“I am truly and deeply sorry. I take full responsibility for my actions,” Komoroski said. “For the rest of my life I will carry this guilt and take full responsibility.”

Back in June, a South Carolina judge signed off on a $1.3 million partial settlement to the victims’ families stemming from a wrongful death lawsuit Hutchinson filed against Komoroski.

The lawsuit alleges Komoroski had a “booze-filled day of bar hopping” and the establishments she visited that day had an obligation to “exercise due care” in serving alcoholic beverages.

The bars that served Komoroski prior to the crash and the rental car company she used will be on the hook for the seven-figure award.

Several of the businesses named in the lawsuit have settled with Hutchinson, which would net the parties involved $863,000 after fees, WCSC reported.

Hutchinson’s lawyer, Danny Dalton, said the amount was less than anticipated due to an ongoing estate dispute between Hutchinson and the slain bride’s mother, who has challenged whether the pair were legally married.

Bill Maher tells liberal Hollywood icon he might ‘quit’ show over Trump

“Real Time” host Bill Maher said he was considering quitting his political talk show because he couldn’t handle another Donald Trump presidency.

“I’m s—ting my pants. I may quit,” Maher told his guest, actress and activist Jane Fonda, on his “Club Random” podcast on Sunday. “Because I don’t want to do another [Trump term].”

Maher boasted how he had warned Trump was a “con man” before the rest of the left started calling the President-elect a “threat to democracy.”

“I did all the Trump stuff before anybody,” he continued. “I’ve done it…I’m bored with it.”

HARRIS BACKER JANE FONDA RECALLS DOORS ‘SLAMMED IN HER FACE’ AS SHE BATTLES ‘PATRIARCHY’

Fonda asked Maher if he could pivot to something else and not cover Trump instead.

“The show is the politics. There is no other thing!” Maher replied. “And he’s going to dominate the news like he always does.”

Maher and Fonda went on to clash several times in the podcast over their disagreements about the prominence and problems the far-left posed to the Democratic Party.

Maher, who has characterized himself as an “old school” liberal, argued with the far-left Fonda about regulations in California, gender ideology in schools, racism in America and how to address climate change.

Fonda, who has been arrested for her climate activism, insisted that strong environmental regulations were needed because “we live in a soup of toxic chemicals” and “if we don’t regulate it, we’re all going to die of cancer.”

“That’s true,” Maher said, before arguing that many regulations were also not necessary.

“You really don’t believe the state we live in California is lacking regulations. There’s over 300,000 regulations,” he said.

“Well, maybe they’re needed,” Fonda replied.

NEWSOM PROPOSES $25M FROM STATE LEGISLATURE TO ‘TRUMP-PROOF’ CALIFORNIA

After sharing how he had to have three inspections in order to install a new garage door in his house, Maher complained California was over-regulated and over-taxed with “no checks on that sort of extreme leftism.”

Fonda disagreed, saying she didn’t know California had this reputation.

“I don’t for a minute consider California a state that is extreme leftist. Not at all. Not any way,” she said.

The pair continued to spar after Maher called the NAACP “far left” for issuing a travel advisory to Florida for Black Americans last year, after Gov. Ron DeSantis banned funding for diversity, equity and inclusion programs at Florida’s public universities.

“There’s stories like that, that just makes people roll their eyes and go, ‘Are you people nuts?’” he said before giving another example of progressives claiming men can “get pregnant.”

“I understand that a trans woman can get pregnant. That’s different than a man getting pregnant. And the way they sort of like insist on blurring that line is if that’s some sort of reasonable social cause as opposed to just being for having full rights, respect and protection for trans people?” he said.

“I’ve never heard about men getting pregnant,” Fonda shot back, saying Maher’s was blowing out of proportion the “miniscule” amount of influence the far left had on the culture.

They also clashed over their ideas on how to address climate change, with Fonda warning that Americans needed to cut all our emissions in half immediately to avoid an impending climate crisis. She argued that solar and wind, not “digging, fracking and mining,” were the real solutions to solving this crisis.

But Maher was critical of Fonda’s suggestions, saying that radical clean energy measures were unlikely to get passed by lawmakers and that doomsday predictions about the end of the earth being near had come and passed several times before.

After several rounds of disagreement on political issues, Fonda told Maher she didn’t believe they had a lot in common.

“Your worldview is just so totally different than mine,” she said.

Elon Musk’s whopping 12-digit Tesla compensation package rejected again by judge

A Delaware judge ruled on Monday that Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not entitled to receive a multibillion compensation package despite shareholders approving it.

Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick of Delaware’s Court of Chancery filed her 101-page decision on Monday. In an X post, Tesla responded to the decision and expressed intent to appeal.

“A Delaware judge just overruled a supermajority of shareholders who own Tesla and who voted twice to pay @elonmusk what he’s worth,” the post read. “The court’s decision is wrong, and we’re going to appeal.”

“This ruling, if not overturned, means that judges and plaintiffs’ lawyers run Delaware companies rather than their rightful owners – the shareholders.”

MUSK AND RAMASWAMY LAY OUT DOGE VISION IN WSJ OP-ED: 5 TAKEAWAYS

McCormick’s ruling comes months after she previously struck down the same compensation deal in January, finding that Musk’s close relationships with certain board members influenced negotiations and that there was no adequate proof that the size of the package was fair.

The compensation package, also called Musk’s 2018 CEO Performance Award, would consist of 303 million shares of Tesla stock. The compensation was contingent on Tesla meeting certain milestones under Musk’s leadership.

The closing price of a single Tesla stock was roughly $357 on Monday, meaning that the package could now be worth $108 billion, a whopping 12 figures.

In her decision, McCormick wrote that stockholders were not entitled to “hit reset” to restore the original pay package and that doing so would lead to endless litigation.

“Were the court to condone the practice of allowing defeated parties to create new facts for the purpose of revising judgments, lawsuits would become interminable,” she said.

SEN. ERNST SENDS LETTER TO MUSK, RAMASWAMY DETAILING AREAS WHERE DOGE CAN CUT SPENDING

“The large and talented group of defense firms got creative with the ratification argument, but their unprecedented theories go against multiple strains of settled law.”

In January, McCormick said the pay package was the “biggest compensation plan ever – an unfathomable sum.” It was 33 times bigger than the next largest executive compensation package, which was Musk’s 2012 compensation plan.

Musk previously acknowledged the legal battle on X in January.

Falcons make QB decision as Kirk Cousins’ struggles continue in 3rd straight loss

The Atlanta Falcons used their first-round pick back in April on a quarterback, but they are not ready to hand the keys over to him despite their veteran quarterback’s current struggles.

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris showed his confidence in Kirk Cousins, who had a four-interception game in the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday that moved the Falcons to 6-6 on the season.

It’s the team’s third consecutive loss, but luckily, the NFC South is still one of the weaker in the NFL as the Falcons are tied for first place with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

So, with a playoff spot in mind and only five games remaining in the regular season, there has been debate about whether the Falcons should make a quarterback change.

Morris put out that fire before it could get too wild.

FALCONS’ KIRK COUSINS REVEALS HOW THE PERCEPTION OF HIM CHANGED AFTER NETFLIX’S ‘QUARTERBACK’ RELEASED

“I don’t think that’s going to be the issue around here,” Morris said in response to a question about Cousins getting benched, via the New York Post. “That guy’s carried us. That guy’s got us to the point where we’re 6–6, first place in the division. Still got everything in front of us, despite what happened today. It’s up to us to bounce back and find a way to win football games, and there’s no better man than 18 to do that for us.”

So, Michael Penix Jr., the Falcons’ first-round pick that shocked the football world months ago, will continue sitting behind Cousins as his backup.

But Cousins knows that he’s not playing up to his standards of late, throwing an interception in each of the previous two games before this clunker of a performance on Sunday. Cousins has also not thrown a touchdown in each of the last three games.

“We won’t make any excuses for them that happened today,” Morris said. “That guy has carried us all season, he’s done such a marvelous job. It’s hard to throw that guy under the bus.”

The Falcons’ pick of Penix at No. 8 overall, who starred for the Washington Huskies, shocked many due to Cousins signing a four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million guaranteed.

He has seen some time on the regular-season field in blowout losses, completing three of his five passes for 38 yards.

But Penix will continue learning from Cousins, who will look to right the ship this upcoming week in the dubbed “revenge game” against his Minnesota Vikings, as he makes his return to the team he spent the last six seasons with.
