Greenland seeks to distance itself from Denmark as Trump targets territory for US
Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede recently declared his intentions for the island’s future, stating taking major steps to gain independence from Denmark is “necessary.”
Egede’s remarks, which follow a Dec. 22 post on Truth Social by President-elect Donald Trump advocating for the “ownership and control” of Greenland, focused on the basis of secession from Denmark.
“The upcoming new election period must, together with the citizens, create these new steps, based on the foundations that have already been created,” Egede said. “It is about time that we ourselves take a step and shape our future, also with regard to who we will cooperate closely with, and who our trading partners will be.”
AMB. CARLA SANDS: TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S FOCUS ON GREENLAND–WHY WE HOPE TO STRENGTHEN OUR RELATIONSHIP
Trump tried in his first term to buy the mineral-rich, geographically important territory in what he called a “large real estate deal,” Fox News Digital previously reported.
“Greenland is ours,” Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede said last week. “We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom.
American interest in Greenland dates back to the 1800’s.
TRUMP: US CONSIDERING POSSIBLY BUYING GREENLAND
In 1867, the State Department explored buying both Greenland and Iceland, recognizing their strategic importance, Fox News reported. After World War II, Denmark turned down a $100 million offer from President Harry Truman for the island.
Acquiring the land would mark the largest expansion of American territory in history, topping the Louisiana Purchase.

Biden’s press secretary calls her team ‘best’ in the business — and the reaction was furious
Conservative social media users tore into White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre this week for sharing a picture of the White House communications team, calling it the “best team in the business.”
Biden critics on X hammered the post, disputing the claim and accusing the press secretary of lying on behalf of President Biden throughout his time in office.
“It takes an army to come up with non-answers and lies,” conservative columnist Tim Young commented on Jean-Pierre’s post.

The outgoing press secretary shared the photo to her X account Friday, which depicted her and around a dozen of her staff smiling while standing next to President Biden.
She captioned the photo, stating, “Here’s to the best team in the business. I couldn’t do it without you. Let’s run through the tape! #thewestwing #POTUS #WhiteHouse.”
The photo went viral and attracted heat from a myriad of critics who vented their frustration at Jean-Pierre’s time as press secretary.
Washington Times columnist Tim Murtaugh gave Jean-Pierre and company a stern send-off, writing, “This ‘best team in the business’ lied to the world about the mental & physical fitness of the president and, ultimately, failed. Their work led to Trump’s huge win, which was a complete repudiation of everything they did in the most important jobs they’ll ever have.”
“Nice work,” he added.
The Free Press columnist Eli Lake asked, “In what business is this the best team?”
Conservative radio host Michael Berry trashed Jean-Pierre and her team, posting, “Dumb and dumber. And dumber. And even dumber. And yet more dumb. And shockingly even dumber than that. And . . .”
The Washington Free Beacon investigative reporter Chuck Ross remarked, “They’re actually all the worst in the business which means they’ll be making $300k+ in That Town within a couple months.”
JEAN-PIERRE BRISTLES WHEN PRESSED ON PAST ‘DEMOCRACY’ WARNINGS: ‘DO NOT APPRECIATE HAVING MY WORDS TWISTED’
Fox News columnist David Marcus accused the White House communications teams of lying about Biden’s health and other major issues throughout his presidency. “So these are the people who aided in lying to the American citizenry about Biden’s mental capacity and plans to pardon his son. Got it. I’d put a bag over my head I were one of them,” he said.
RedState.com writer Bonchie stated, “I keep waiting for her to exhibit some semblance of shame, but she just doesn’t have it in her.”
The Federalist editor-in-chief Mollie Hemingway savaged the team, declaring, “There is not an easier job in the universe than being press secretary for a Democrat. And yet somehow y’all still failed.”

Jean-Pierre’s last year on the job was marked by even more embarrassing clarifications and defenses of Biden’s term.
Memorable moments included her igniting a feud with CBS reporter Ed O’Keefe after she refused to answer his query about neurologist from Walter Reed Military Medical Center visiting Biden at the White House several times that year; saying that questioning Biden’s inflammatory rhetoric about then-candidate Donald Trump after he was almost assassinated twice was itself “incredibly dangerous”; and dismissing videos of Biden looking frail as “cheap fakes.”
Funeral services for former President Carter begin with family memorial in Atlanta
The week-long state funeral services honoring former President Jimmy Carter, who died at 100 last week, began Saturday morning. The ceremonies will honor Carter’s journey from his hometown of Plains, Georgia, to his esteemed role on the global humanitarian stage and as the 39th American president.
On Saturday morning, individuals gathered in downtown Plains to place flowers at the base of Carter’s monument. The tribute also featured Habitat for Humanity hardhats adorned with handwritten messages, including one that read, “God bless you, Mr. President,” USA Today first reported.
Carter was the oldest living president, and President Biden has now taken that mantle at the age of 82 years, 2 months.
Carter’s specific cause of death on Dec. 29 was unclear. Carter’s death followed the passing of his wife Rosalynn on Nov. 19, 2023. She died at the age of 96 with her family by her side at the Carter home in Plains, just days after she had been admitted to hospice care.
Carter’s motorcade arrived at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta just before 4 p.m. ET. As his casket was unloaded, a military band played “Hail to the Chief.”
During the private memorial service, Carter was eulogized and stories from his life were shared.
His son, James Earl Carter III, spoke of a kind but firm parent who spent time with his Boy Scouts of America troop and took the family on vacations.
“Chip” Carter said that once, while working on the hiking merit badge, their troop hiked six miles to the family farm.
While roasting marshmallows and hot dogs on the fire, President Carter told ghost stories. Some of the tales appeared to spook the scouts to the point that they began employing the “buddy system” when they left the relative security of the fire to use the latrine and so on.
When Chip was in eighth grade, he recalled, he brought home an “F” on a Latin exam just before Christmas break.
“I didn’t see any reason to learn Latin, no one spoke it very much,” he quipped. “But my father was not pleased.”
During their vacation, President Carter would take Chip’s Latin textbook, study it, and return to teach Chip what he had learned himself each day.
When Chip returned to school in January, he asked his teacher to retake the exam. When she assented, he returned home with a 100% score.
The Morehouse College Glee Club provided musical accompaniment during the service, including the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Carter’s body will lie in repose at his presidential center overnight, and the public can pay its respects during that time.
Next, Carter’s casket will be on its way to the District of Columbia, where the 39th president will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol until his Thursday morning funeral in Northwest D.C. President Biden is expected to eulogize his fellow Democrat, and all other living presidents – Clinton, G.W. Bush, Obama and Trump – have received invitations.
Late Saturday morning, Carter’s motorcade departed his hometown of Plains, a small farming community just below Fort Benning (now Fort Moore) and two hours above Tallahassee, Florida.
Carter’s funeral detail arrived in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. He will lie in repose at the Carter Center. On its way there, the motorcade passed by the girlhood home of Rosalynn Carter. The couple had been married for 77 years when Mrs. Carter died.

The convoy also rolled by Carter’s 1976 presidential campaign headquarters and a gas station that had been owned by his brother, Billy Carter, according to the AP.
The motorcade also passed through the small community of Archery, Georgia – just outside Plains.
It was in Archery where Carter grew up on the family’s peanut farm owned by James Earl Carter Sr. The farm’s bell was rung 39 times on Saturday to honor the 39th president.
Carter’s mother, Lillian, was a nurse, who ironically delivered the then-Rosalynn Smith, who would go on to marry her son.
Carter’s body arrived in Atlanta around 3 p.m. ET, and stopped outside the Georgia State Capitol from where he once governed.
A moment of silence was led by Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Atlanta Democratic Mayor Andre Dickens.
Here is the order of funeral events:
Saturday, Jan. 4:
•10:15 a.m.: The Carter family will arrive at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. Nine current and former Secret Service agents of Carter’s administration will serve as pallbearers, escorting his remains to the hearse.
•10:50 a.m.: The motorcade will travel through Plains, pausing briefly at Carter’s boyhood home in Archery. During this pause, the National Park Service will ring the historic farm bell 39 times, symbolizing Carter’s tenure as the 39th President.
•10:55 a.m.: The journey to Atlanta begins.

•3 p.m.: Upon arrival in Atlanta, the motorcade will stop at the Georgia State Capitol for a moment of silence led by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, and members of the Georgia General Assembly.
Georgia State Patrol troopers, both current and retired, will assemble on the Capitol steps, with those who served on Carter’s security detail during his governorship taking a place of distinction.
•3:45 p.m.: An arrival ceremony will take place at the Carter Presidential Center.
•4 p.m.: A private service will be conducted in the lobby of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.
•7 p.m.: President Carter will lie in repose at the Carter Presidential Center, allowing the public to pay their respects until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Subsequent services:
•Jan. 7: Carter’s remains will be transported to Washington, D.C., where he will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol for national homage.
•Jan. 9: A national funeral service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral, with President Biden expected to deliver the eulogy. Biden has declared Thursday as a National Day of Mourning.

NFL team buys $2 million in tickets at rival stadium, sells to their fans at big discount
The Minnesota Vikings are playing moneyball.
One of the biggest regular-season games in the history of the Vikings and rival Detroit Lions will determine the NFC North champion and the top seed in the conference Sunday.
With the game at Detroit’s Ford Field, the Vikings are throwing their money around, trying to offset the Lions’ home-field advantage.
The Vikings spent $2 million on about 1,900 tickets for seats located behind the visitor sideline at Ford Field Sunday and are now reselling those tickets to fans at a heavy discount, according to Sports Illustrated.

The Vikings even sent an email to season ticket holders, notifying them of the special offer.
The Lions reportedly contacted the league office to complain, but they were told the Vikings weren’t breaking any league rules.
The game between the longtime division rivals, both 14-2, is big considering neither team has won a Super Bowl.
SEAHAWKS PRANK ROOKIE BYRON MURPHY II WITH OUTRAGEOUS DINNER BILL
The Vikings have been to four Super Bowls and lost all four. Detroit has never played in a Super Bowl.
The winner of this game will have the clearest path in the NFC to the Super Bowl.
The Lions won the earlier matchup this season in Minnesota, a tight 31-29 thriller, to stay in first place in the NFC North. By virtue of that win, the Lions would claim the NFC’s top seed with a tie against the Vikings Sunday night.
The Vikings haven’t won a game against the Lions at Ford Field since January 2021 in the final week of the 2020 season, a 37-35 victory that ended their season at 7-9. Minnesota finished 5-11.

The Lions have won the last four meetings against the Vikings and reached the NFC championship game last year. The Vikings were thought to be in a rebuilding phase, but the emergence of quarterback Sam Darnold fueled one of the most shocking stories of the NFL season.
Whichever team loses Sunday will be relegated to the top wild-card spot and will have to play in the first round of the playoffs on the road.
The winner will get a first-round bye and home-field advantage in the divisional round and potentially the NFC championship game.
OpenAI CEO’s cryptic ‘six-word story’ unleashes concern about future of his technology
OpenAI founder Sam Altman rang in the new year with a short missive posing questions and concerns about the future of artificial intelligence (AI).
In his first X post of 2025, Altman published a cryptic verse Saturday about being near “the singularity,” which refers to the point at which technology becomes so advanced that it moves beyond the control of mankind, potentially wreaking havoc on human civilization.
“i always wanted to write a six-word story,” Altman’s post said, “here it is: near the singularity; unclear which side.”
TRUMP URGING TIKTOK BAN HALT, LOOKS TO FOCUS ON AI IN SECOND TERM
A few minutes later, the tech entrepreneur revealed the meaning of the verse was ambiguous to even him. Altman said the message may also be about the simulation hypothesis.
“(it’s supposed to either be about 1. the simulation hypothesis or 2. the impossibility of knowing when the critical moment in the takeoff actually happens, but i like that it works in a lot of other ways too.),” the post said. “Takeoff” likely refers to the point where technological singularity begins.
The simulation hypothesis, which is the theory that humans exist in a computer simulation, is generally considered less realistic than the idea of technological singularity. It is considered more of a philosophical discussion than a scientific or political one.
OPENAI HITS BACK AT ELON MUSK LAWSUIT, SAYS HE SUGGESTED FOR-PROFIT ENTITY
OpenAI was founded by Altman and other tech entrepreneurs in 2015, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Musk left the company in 2018, dissatisfied with the company’s leadership and achievements.
In 2024, Musk accused OpenAI of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI), or the ability for a machine to carry out any task a computer can. The SpaceX founder claimed OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model had achieved AGI.
OpenAI has denied that GPT-4 is capable of AGI, but Altman recently hinted that it could take off in 2025.
“What are you excited about in 2025?” Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan asked Altman in a Nov. 8 YouTube interview. “What’s to come?”
“AGI,” Altman replied. “I’m excited for that.”

Medal of Freedom honoree absent from ceremony as outrage erupts over selections
Soccer legend Lionel Messi was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Saturday, but he did not show up to the White House in person to receive the medal from President Biden. Messi was one of 19 recipients of the award, alongside NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
According to USA Today, Messi’s management team and his pro team, Inter Miami, informed the White House ahead of time that he would not be able to attend the ceremony due to scheduling conflicts.
Messi came to the U.S. in 2023 to join Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami, in one of the biggest superstar recruitments in the league’s 31-year history. Messi had only played in European leagues and for Argentina’s for most of his career to that point.
“Leo Messi is the most decorated player in the history of professional football. He supports health and education programs for children worldwide through his Messi Foundation and serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador,” a White House spokesperson announced as Biden held the medal.
Major League Soccer released a brief social media statement congratulating Messi on the award. Messi himself has not acknowledged the award with a social media post at the time of publication. According to USA Today, the star said that “he is deeply honored and it is a profound privilege to receive the recognition.”

The medal is the nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to people who have made “exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values or security of the United States, world peace or other significant societal, public or private endeavors,” according to the White House.
Biden’s re-election campaign mentioned Messi’s arrival to Major League Soccer as a catalyst for soccer’s growing significance among U.S. audiences, during the 2024 Copa America soccer tournament in Atlanta in June.
After Messi led Argentina to the World Cup title in December 2022, Biden jokingly wrote, “You know, I think that Messi guy might have a future,” in a congratulatory X post.
However, as Messi was absent, Saturday’s ceremony also incited controversy. News that Biden would award the medal to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and left-wing billionaire George Soros sparked mass outrage on social media and backlash, especially from prominent conservative figures.
HOW TRANSGENDERISM IN SPORTS SHIFTED THE 2024 ELECTION AND IGNITED A NATIONAL COUNTERCULTURE
Critics pointed out Clinton’s handling of the war in Libya and the attack on United States government facilities in Benghazi, Libya, as well as her controversial private email server for government business, which prompted former FBI Director James Comey to say publicly that Clinton had mishandled classified information.
The award to Soros, a Democrat megadonor, was slammed based on the billionaire’s past campaign funding of progressive district attorneys who have been light on crime, which they say has led to crime waves in Blue cities.
“Seriously, two of the worst people on earth, Online commentator Blake Habyan wrote on X of Clinton and Soros.
Messi has not expressed any prominent political beliefs during his career.

In February 2024, Messi didn’t play in an exhibition match in Hong Kong, staying on the bench during a match between Inter Miami and a local team. After his refusal to play, one of Argentina’s friendly matches that was set to be played in China in March was cancelled.
China’s state-run newspaper, the Global Times, published an editorial highlighting a “theory” without evidence that suggested Messi’s actions had “political motives” and that “external forces” wished to embarrass Hong Kong. But Messi insisted that his decision not to play in the match wasn’t politically driven at the time.
“I’ve heard people say that I didn’t want to play (in Hong Kong) for political reasons and many other reasons that are totally untrue,” Messi said in Spanish in a video with Chinese and English subtitles. “Had that been the case, I wouldn’t have even traveled to Japan or visited China as many times as I have.”
Widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time, Messi, 37, has set numerous individual records with eight Ballon d’Or awards and eight times being named FIFA’s world’s best player. He is the most decorated player in the history of professional soccer, having won 45 team trophies, including four UEFA Champions Leagues, two Copa Americas and one FIFA World Cup.
Many rare discoveries have been made across the globe over the course of the year 2024.
The public was able to view some religious relics that highlighted historical moments, giving people a better understanding of the time period in which they derived from.

‘Santa Claus’ sarcophagus
A team of archaeologists may have unearthed a sarcophagus containing the remains of Saint Nicholas, whose spirit of generosity is still celebrated in the modern world more than 1,600 years later.
“We believe that we have encountered a sarcophagus to be in situ (original position) for the first time,” said associate professor Ebru Fatma Findik, who is heading the excavation team through Hatay Mustafa Kemal University’s Department of Art History.

Megiddo Mosaic
The Museum of the Bible in the nation’s capital opened an exhibit in partnership with the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), giving visitors a view of early Christianity in the Holy Land.
Titled “The Megiddo Mosaic: Foundations of Faith,” the exhibit showcases IAA’s archaeological find, dating back to the third century, on display for the first time since it was found.
The mosaic formed part of the floor of the oldest site of Christian worship ever to be discovered from the third century, according to officials with the Museum of the Bible (MOTB).
RARE MOSAIC REVEALING EARLIEST ‘PHYSICAL EVIDENCE’ OF CHRISTIANITY NOW ON DISPLAY AT MUSEUM OF THE BIBLE
“The mosaic presents groundbreaking physical evidence of the practices and beliefs of early Christians, including the first archaeological instance of the phrase, ‘God Jesus Christ,’” Alegre Savariego, curator of the exhibition on behalf of the IAA, said in the release.
The exhibit opened to the public in September and is on display until July.
Early evidence of Christianity
The earliest known evidence of Christianity north of Italy was recently unveiled by archaeologists, who call the discovery one of the “most important testimonies of early Christianity.”
The artifact, publicized by the Frankfurt Archaeological Museum, is called the Frankfurt silver inscription.
The Frankfurt silver inscription is an engraving on silver foil that consists of 18 lines written in Latin. It dates to between 230 and 260 A.D. and was discovered wrapped in a small silver amulet.
ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER EARLIEST KNOWN EVIDENCE OF CHRISTIANITY NORTH OF THE ALPS: ‘UNUSUAL FOR THIS TIME’
The inscription begins, “In the name of Saint Titus, Holy, holy, holy! In the name of Jesus Christ, God’s Son!”
Saint Titus was a first-century Christian missionary and disciple of Paul the Apostle. The inscription also calls for the amulet to protect “the man who gives to the will the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s Son.”
“The heavenly, the earthly and the underground, and every tongue confess (to Jesus Christ),” the text concludes.
Written in Latin, the inscription took several weeks to decipher due to its deteriorated condition. Archaeologists needed to “digitally unroll” the silver foil, which had been crumpled for around 1,800 years.

Museum officials told Fox News Digital, “The silver inscription is from now on part of the museum‘s permanent exhibition.”
Oldest Christian churches
Archaeologists recently uncovered what they believe to be one of the oldest Christian churches in the world.
The University of Münster announced the discovery of the fourth-century church located in Germany.
The remains of the ancient Christian building were found at the Artaxata site in the Ararat Plain.
ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER ONE OF THE WORLD’S OLDEST CHRISTIAN CHURCHES
The octagonal church at Artaxata had a floor made of mortar and terracotta tiles, and measured around 100 feet in diameter.
“The 4th century building is the oldest archaeologically documented church in the country — sensational evidence for early Christianity in Armenia,” University of Münster Professor Achim Lichtenberger said in a statement.
“The city developed into an important metropolis in the Hellenistic period and was the capital of the Kingdom of Armenia for almost six centuries,” a press release from the school explained.

Tributes pour in for ‘most magical little boy’ who died in ski accident horror
A 12-year-old boy from Massachusetts was remembered as a “magical” middle school student after he died after an accident at a New Hampshire ski slope.
Jack Murrary, 12, was skiing at Cranmore Mountain in Conway, New Hampshire, New Year’s Eve when he struck a tree while navigating an intermediate trail. Authorities said in a release the young boy was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident.
The Conway Police Department said he was found unconscious and was rushed to MaineHealth Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Born on May 23, 2012, he is the adored son of Paul and Crystal and the loving and best ‘big bro bro’ to Finley Murray of Weymouth. Jack is the most magical little boy and was on his way to becoming a truly exceptional man,” his obituary says.

“His positivity and laughter are infectious. He is a loving and patient person who always sees the best in people. Jack is compassionate, empathetic and gives the best hugs. Jack is the greatest child a parent could ask for, and we are all better people for having known him.”
Jack, who played drums in the school band, had a GoFundMe established in his memory, and his family asked people to honor his life by donating to a music program in lieu of flowers.
“Helping other aspiring musicians like Jack get access to enrich their lives through the arts is a wonderful way to honor Jack’s memory,” his father, Paul Murray, wrote on the GoFundMe page.
In his obituary, the 12-year-old was remembered as a “bright light,” with his family listing an impressive list of interests the middle school student was passionate about.
“The brightest shining lights in life never shine long enough and Jack was that bright light for so many,” the obituary said. “Despite his short life he did more in twelve years than most do in a lifetime.”

Murray was remembered for being a budding entrepreneur, playing soccer and the trombone and drums and for his artistic ability.
“Jack loved his family, friends and neighbors (told them that regularly) and he knew how much he was loved back. Jack’s absence will leave a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him and the entire Weymouth community,” his family said.
“We ask that everyone take inspiration from the way Jack lived his short life and apply that to your own lives. We love you Jack always and forever!”
