Trump escalates plans to acquire Greenland after plea from local, Don Jr. to visit
President-elect Trump ramped up his calls for the U.S. to take ownership of Greenland in an amusing social media post on Monday.
The move comes as the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., is preparing to travel to Greenland on Tuesday. The trip will be undertaken in a personal capacity, and he is not expected to meet with government officials.
In a Truth Social post, President-elect Trump said that he was “hearing that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA’.” The Republican attached a video that purportedly shows a Greenlander asking the U.S. to buy his country.
“If you could tell Trump anything, what would it be?” a woman is heard asking the man in the video.
“Buy us. Buy Greenland,” the man, who was wearing a MAGA hat, replied.

The Greenlander then added that he “loved Americans” and wanted to be free of the Danish government.
“We don’t want to be colonized by Danish government anymore,” he explained. “We get ripped [off] every year [with] our minerals from Greenland. We are the richest nation in the world. And we don’t get to use it. Denmark’s using us too much.”
In his message, Trump confirmed that he plans to visit Greenland in the near future and that his son, Donald Trump, Jr., will be in the country soon. The president-elect said that he plans to see some of the island’s “most magnificent areas and sights.”
“Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation,” Trump wrote on Monday. “We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s latest post comes two weeks after he first made headlines by expressing support for U.S. ownership of Greenland.
“[F]or purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” the president-elect’s Truth Social post read.
TRUMP PLANS TO ‘IMMEDIATELY’ REVERSE BIDEN’S ‘RIDICULOUS’ BAN ON NEW OIL AND GAS DRILLING ALONG US COAST
In response, Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede declared interest in his country gaining independence from Denmark.
“The upcoming new election period must, together with the citizens, create these new steps, based on the foundations that have already been created,” Egede said. “It is about time that we ourselves take a step and shape our future, also with regard to who we will cooperate closely with, and who our trading partners will be.”
Trump has considered purchasing Greenland for several years now. In 2019, he floated the idea of buying Greenland and called it “a large real estate deal.”
“A lot of things can be done. It’s hurting Denmark very badly because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it,” Trump said at the time. “So, they carry it at great loss, and strategically for the United States, it would be nice. And, we’re a big ally of Denmark and we help Denmark, and we protect Denmark.”
During a “Fox News Sunday” interview about Trump’s remarks, then-White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed that the president’s sentiment was genuine.
“Greenland is a strategic place up there, and they’ve got a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow explained at the time.

Bill Maher tells actor he’s ‘crazy’ for refusing to ‘judge’ Islam over treatment of women
Bill Maher called “Two and a Half Men” star Jon Cryer “crazy woke” after the actor refused to criticize Islam over its strict dress code for women while on Maher’s “Club Random” podcast on Sunday.
The show was off to a rocky start after Maher brought up the presidential election and Cryer dismissed Maher’s point that the illegal immigration issue hurt the Democratic Party.
Maher moved on to address the decline of western standards in areas like London, where nearly 4 million people self-identified as Muslim in the 2021 census.
He referenced a “60 Minutes” report where a woman was “screamed at” for walking through a Muslim neighborhood in London while wearing a skirt.
BILL MAHER TELLS JANE FONDA HE MIGHT ‘QUIT’ SHOW BECAUSE OF TRUMP
“The point of it was that there are places in western civilizations that are not run by western standards and that doesn’t mean they’re just different,” he told Cryer.
“We should agree that women should be able to wear what they want,” Maher continued. “If you don’t agree with that, you’re not a liberal to begin with.”
Cryer pushed back on Maher’s point, saying that while he agreed that women should be able to wear what they want, there were many places around the world where women didn’t have the freedom to dress how they’d like.
“In many places they used to get catcalled all the time,” Cryer argued, which Maher scoffed at.
“A lot of s— used to happen but what’s going on now in the world?” Maher replied. “Would you really want to have your wife live in Gaza or [somewhere else] where she would have to cover up?”

Cryer was reluctant to criticize the strict rules for women in these places, saying, “it’s not my culture.”
“You won’t judge it?” Maher asked.
“I’m not going to judge it,” Cryer replied. “No.”
“That’s crazy woke to me,” Maher remarked.
The talk show host, who frequently rails against the far-left, said liberals who accept intolerance in the name of diversity had gone “off the rails.”
“That’s where it went off the rails, when we became so tolerant that we tolerate intolerance,” Maher said. “You would never allow something like that to happen in this country.”
Later, the pair argued over “woke” politics within the Democratic Party and illegal immigration hurting Democrats in the election.
Maher argued that “stupid wokeness” got Trump re-elected along with the open borders policies of the Biden administration.
Cryer, who quipped he was “stupid woke” at the start of the show, claimed the real reason why President-elect Donald Trump won the election was because Americans hated inflation, Black women and transgender people.
“I think Americans hate inflation. They hate inflation, they hate riots, they hate Black women, and they hate trans people. They just spent hundreds of millions of dollars demonizing trans people and that’s disgusting,” Cryer remarked to Maher’s dismay.
“Oh Jon,” Maher sighed heavily. “We shouldn’t talk politics.”

Biden visits New Orleans as feds offer new insight on terrorist’s attack plan
President Biden and first lady Jill Biden attended a Monday memorial service for the victims of the Bourbon Street terrorist attack in New Orleans, paying their respects to the 14 victims who died.
The event, which was an interfaith prayer service, was hosted at the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, in the French Quarter. The church is located less than a mile away from the scene of the attack, where terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd of celebrants on New Year’s Day.
Biden made short remarks toward the end of the service, expressing sympathy for the victims and their families.
“The shock and pain is still so very raw,” Biden, who leaves office in exactly two weeks, said. “My wife Jill and I are here to stand with you, grieve with you, pray with you, [and] let you know you are not alone — the rest of the nation is looking at you as well.”
WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT VICTIMS OF NEW ORLEANS TERRORIST ATTACK
The president also noted that he recently met two officers who were injured during the attack, and commended the first responders who saved lives amid the chaos.
“New Orleans defines strength and resilience,” Biden said. “You define it. Whether it’s in the form of this attack, from this attack or hurricanes or superstorms, this city’s people get back up. That’s the spirit of America as well.”
The service came less than a week after the terrorist attack stunned the Big Easy. Jabbar died at the scene, bringing the total number of deaths to 15 as of Jan. 6, and over 30 injuries.
Many of the decedents were in their 20s and visited New Orleans from across the U.S., including Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York and New Jersey. The youngest victim who died was 18 years old, and the oldest was 63.
NEW ORLEANS TERRORIST, MAN IN LAS VEGAS CYBERTRUCK EXPLOSION SHARED MORE LINKS IN ATTACKS JUST HOURS APART
The incident is still under investigation, and federal and local officials are continuing to gather evidence about the terrorist attack. On Sunday, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) said its National Response Team had completed its investigation of Jabbar’s Airbnb in New Orleans.
Jabbar, who rented a house on Mandeville Street and left it hours before unleashing his attack, set a fire at the rental house to destroy evidence, but the fire eventually smoldered by the time authorities arrived. Accelerants that Jabbar strategically placed ended up not catching fire, allowing authorities to gather evidence.
Officials also found traces of the explosive RDX, or cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, at the rental. The agency noted that Jabbar unknowingly foiled his plans by using an electric match to ignite explosive material that is typically set off by a detonator.

“Jabbar used explosive material better suited for a detonator, but he didn’t have access to one, so he used an electric match to set the explosives off,” the ATF’s statement explained. “Jabbar’s lack of experience and crude nature of putting the device together is the reason why he used the wrong device to set the explosives off.”

Trump reacts to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s resignation after tariff clash
President-elect Trump on Monday reiterated his suggestion that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state, just hours after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his plan to resign.
“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!” he added.
Sources told Fox News in December that Trump brought up the merger idea to Trudeau in person when the pair met at Mar-a-Lago in late November.
CANADA’S TRUDEAU ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION FOLLOWING PARTY PRESSURE AMID CRITICISMS OF TRUMP, BUDGET HANDLING
Trudeau jetted to Trump’s Florida residence unannounced that month after the president-elect threatened to impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian products. Trump is warning of 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico over failures by both nations to curb the flow of illegal immigrants and illicit drugs from those countries into the U.S.
“We discussed many important topics that will require both countries to work together to address, like the fentanyl and drug crisis that has decimated so many lives as a result of illegal immigration, fair trade deals that do not jeopardize American workers and the massive trade deficit the U.S. has with Canada,” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.
Trudeau announced earlier this morning that he will resign as prime minister and as the leader of Canada’s Liberal Party.
TRUMP PLANS TO ‘IMMEDIATELY’ REVERSE BIDEN’S ‘RIDICULOUS’ BAN ON NEW OIL AND GAS DRILLING ALONG US COAST
“I intend to resign as party leader, as Prime Minister, after the party selects its next leader through a robust nationwide competitive process,” Trudeau said in a Monday morning address. “Last night, I asked the president of the Liberal Party to begin that process. This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election.”
Trudeau, who has led Canada for nearly a decade, has been grappling for months with significant drops in his approval ratings over mounting frustration relating to issues like the soaring cost of living and rising inflation.

The long-time prime minister saw an increase in calls for his resignation — from at least seven Liberal Members of Parliament as well as opposition party leaders — following the abrupt departure of his finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, who wrote a scathing letter of resignation mentioning Trudeau’s handling of certain economic policies as well as the threats levied by Trump.
Biden mumbles nonsense while singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to kid he brought on stage
President Biden’s fumble went viral across social media after another embarrassing gaffe while singing “Happy Birthday” to a White House guest.
During an event marking the signing of the Social Security Fairness Act on Sunday, Biden attempted to sing “Happy Birthday” to 17-year-old Eliseo Jimenez. Jimenez became nationally known after he walked from Lubbock, Texas, to Washington, D.C. in order to spread awareness about the limits of Social Security.
“Eliseo is just around the corner from receiving Social Security,” Biden joked before announcing that Jimenez’s birthday was the next day.
Less than a minute later, Biden appeared to either forget his name entirely or how to correctly say it while leading the audience in singing “Happy Birthday,” mumbling instead as the crowd sang, “…dear Eliseo.” The mumble was so pronounced that Jimenez reacted and laughed as if it were a joke.
This verbal error from Biden was the latest of many gaffes that have made Americans, particularly his critics, skeptical about his mental acuity and wary of his defenders.
Footage of this latest incident went viral, as many of Biden’s critics made jokes at his expense and celebrated the forthcoming end of his presidency.
“Biden brought a guy on stage to sing happy birthday to him… The problem is he either doesn’t know his name or forgot it… and mumbled nonsense instead,” comedian and podcaster Tim Young said. “Only 15 more days of this…”
BIDEN MOCKED AFTER ‘I’M IN THE 20TH CENTURY’ GAFFE
Economic analyst and former DeSantis staffer Kyle Lamb joked that Biden’s performance is like “Me when I’m in the car and after the chorus, the second verse begins and I’m trying to confidently assure myself I know the lyrics.”
The Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller offered a similar comparison, suggesting Biden’s rendition is like, “Me every time the restaurant starts singing to the stupid kid.”
“This is the most Joe Biden thing ever,” American Institute for Economic Research senior editor Jon Miltimore joked.
American Compass managing editor Drew Holden argued, “It’s horrifying to imagine the consequences of Biden’s cognitive decline that will only be reported after he shuffles off the public stage. The most powerful man in the world’s brain doesn’t work. Those who wish us ill aren’t unaware.”
BIDEN TAKES HEAT OVER GAFFE URGING AMERICANS TO ‘CHOOSE FREEDOM OVER DEMOCRACY’
“It continues to horrify me that the biggest media story in the universe isn’t the ongoing mental deterioration of the President of the United States, in full view of the world,” he added in another post.
“He most definitely did NOT remember his name and just mumbled through it,” podcast host Shawn Farash said, before suggesting that Biden’s defenders “used to call this a ‘Cheap Fake’ video.”
This is not the first incident where Biden appeared to forget someone’s name while singing “Happy Birthday” to them.

The president appeared to bungle Arndrea Waters King’s name while singing the birthday song to her in January 2023 at the National Action Network’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. birthday breakfast.
“Well, my wife has a rule in my family. When it’s somebody’s birthday, sing Happy Birthday,” he said before he started singing to the wife of Martin Luther King III, the civil rights leader’s eldest son.
Biden appeared to forget King’s name in the final verse before quickly moving on. He began the song as the audience chimed in, but as he got to the portion with her name, he appeared to say, “Happy Birthday, dear Valen,” trailing off.
“Well, it’s hell turning 30, but you’ve got to put up with it,” he joked.
Fast-food giant becomes latest company to make major shift on ‘woke’ DEI policies
McDonald’s announced Monday it is ending some practices that are part of its broader mission to be inclusive, becoming the latest major corporation to scale back on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies that critics deem “woke.”
The fast-food giant is the first company to adjust its DEI policies in 2025. Last year, a slew of companies made similar changes, including Walmart, Ford Motor Co., John Deere, Lowe’s and Toyota, after activist pressure.
Ticker | Security | Last | Change | Change % |
---|---|---|---|---|
MCD | MCDONALD’S CORP. | 292.18 | -2.60 | -0.88% |
F | FORD MOTOR CO. | 9.92 | +0.04 | +0.40% |
TM | TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. | 190.39 | -4.86 | -2.49% |
LOW | LOWE’S COMPANIES INC. | 249.74 | +1.26 | +0.51% |
DE | DEERE & CO. | 418.00 | -4.22 | -1.00% |
In an open letter to its franchisees, employees and suppliers, McDonald’s touted its achievements in its commitment to inclusion, one of its “core values,” and the company also said it wanted to “highlight a few important changes to our approach.”

The changes include McDonald’s scrapping its “aspirational representation goals,” getting rid of its DEI pledge for its suppliers, changing the name of its diversity team to the Global Inclusion Team and ending external surveys.
COSTCO DEFENDS DEI PROGRAM AS OTHER MAJOR RETAILERS DROP CONTROVERSIAL DIVERSITY PUSH
Although McDonald’s did not mention any external surveys by name, the decision means it joins a lengthy list of companies that have pledged to end participation in the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, which is an annual survey and report used to gauge “policies, practices and benefits pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) employees.”
McDonald’s said it began discussing the changes months ago, acknowledging that it was considering the legal landscape after the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling against affirmative action as well as similar moves by other companies.
WAS 2024 THE YEAR DEI FELL APART?
Anti-woke activist and filmmaker Robby Starbuck, who has been leading a campaign exposing major companies’ woke policies, said on X after the announcement that he warned McDonald’s three days ago that he would be reporting on their “woke policies” if they did not agree to change them.
Starbuck has taken credit for forcing changes at the companies named above, as well as Tractor Supply, Harley-Davidson, Polaris, Indian Motorcycle, Coors, Stanley Black & Decker, Jack Daniel’s parent Brown-Forman, DeWalt tools, Craftsman, Caterpillar, Boeing and Nissan.

Death toll climbs as monster storm dumps heavy snow, ice across US on its deadly journey
WASHINGTON – The first major winter storm of the year that stretched across the U.S. is continuing its deadly journey eastward, where cities in the mid-Atlantic, like Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, are now experiencing significant impacts from heavy snow and ice.
WINTER STORM LIVE TRACKER: SNOWFALL MAPS, CURRENT ALERTS, POWER OUTAGE FORECASTS
The storm began its journey across the nation after slamming the West Coast, where it spawned the first tornado of the year in California.
The winter weather then moved into the Plains and Midwest over the weekend, where blizzard conditions were experienced at Kansas City International Airport, and sleet and freezing rain led to numerous crashes across the region from Kansas and Missouri through the Ohio Valley.
At least six deaths, including a child, are being attributed to the storm across multiple states.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a 33-year-old driver died after getting out of their vehicle on Interstate 29 in Mount City. The vehicle began to slide, hitting the 33-year-old victim from Nebraska.
Another death was reported in Missouri when a 61-year-old Public Works employee was struck while performing snow removal operations in Jackson County, according to MSHP. Snow removal operations paused on Sunday because of the incident and resumed on Monday morning.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Everett Carter, who dedicated 40 years of service to Jackson County, including the last 8 years with the Public Works team,” Jackson County officials said in a statement.
In Kansas, two people were killed in a crash in southwest Wichita during the winter storm, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), a when a vehicle traveling on Interstate 235 spun out of control and left the roadway.
Also in Kansas, a 28-year-old Dodge City man died on Saturday in Ford County when a tractor-trailer swerved in icy conditions, and the victim’s vehicle crashed into the tractor-trailer.
In Illinois, officials say a juvenile was killed and another is being treated for injuries described as life-threatening after a snow tube crash in Macon County.
Officials said a man driving an ATV was pulling two boys on an inner tube in snowy conditions when the tube slid out during a turn and hit a large boulder.
On Monday, the storm brought its fury to the mid-Atlantic states, causing major disruptions to travel and daily life and widespread power outages.
Power has also been knocked out across the region. As of Monday afternoon, PowerOutage.US reported hundreds of thousands of outages across portions of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia.
Winter storm-related power outages in Richmond caused the city’s water system to malfunction. Residents are under a Boil Water Advisory and are being told to conserve water.
After a lull in the snow Monday afternoon, another round is moving into the region through Monday night.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management warned residents not to let their guard down during a break in the weather.
“While this break in precipitation is allowing road crews to continue to work to make roadways passable, any moisture remaining on the roadways could cause refreeze with temperatures dropping below freezing,” said VDEM Chief Agency Spokesperson Jason Elmore. “Please limit travel unless absolutely necessary and don’t have a false sense of security because this weather event isn’t over just yet.”
Washington declares snow emergency; Maryland under state of emergency

In advance of the storm, governors in several states, including Maryland, declared a state of emergency and warned residents to stay home if possible to ensure safety due to the treacherous driving conditions on roads and highways across the region.
“Keeping Marylanders safe is our top priority. Please stay off the roads during this storm. Prepare your home and family and charge your communications devices in case you lose power,” Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said in a statement.

Moore said the state would also be closed on Monday.
Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a snow emergency through at least the end of the day on Tuesday. With that declaration, vehicles were ordered not to park on snow emergency routes, and the pre-treatment of roads was set to begin on Sunday night.
Washington, D.C. schools were also closed on Monday due to the impending major winter storm. The school district announced Monday evening that all classes would be canceled on Tuesday as well.
A joint session of Congress gathered on Monday to certify the 2024 election results without issues from the storm. Additionally, the state funeral for President Jimmy Carter will continue as planned from Tuesday through Thursday.
State offices were closed in Delaware on Monday, and Gov. John Carney said he activated the Delaware National Guard to assist where needed.

Winter storm leads to treacherous travel on roads; major airports also impacted
Officials have been warning residents across the nation, from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic, including portions of the busy Interstate 95 corridor, to stay off the roads if possible.
The Maryland Department of Transportation (DOT) urged drivers to keep speeds low if travel is needed and to not crowd DOT crews who have been busy pre-treating roads since Sunday.
The Virginia DOT said road conditions began to deteriorate on Sunday and remained treacherous on Monday.
Virginia DOT Spokesperson Alex Liggitt spoke with FOX Weather on Monday morning and said crews have been busy pre-treating roads, but also urged people to stay off the roads if possible.
“We did a full brine of about 2,000 lane miles here,” he said. “Now, where I am, I’m the Northern Virginia District, so that’s Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William counties, also Arlington, right outside of D.C., and, you know, we’re in full push mode.”
DRIVING ON THE ICE AND DRIVING IN THE SNOW: WEATHER DRIVING TIPS FOR DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER
Liggitt said more than 3,000 pieces of equipment are out on Virginia roads working to keep them clear of snow and ice.
“The main thing that we are urging residents is just to please stay off the roads, do not travel,” he said. “You know, it’s essential. And if you must, do it with extreme caution and go very slow.”
The dangerous winter storm was also wreaking havoc on major airports in the Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia areas.
According to FlightAware, hundreds of cancellations have been reported at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Philadelphia (PHL) International.
Reagan International closed all runways on Monday evening to allow crews to clear snow.
Those numbers are only expected to rise as the storm continues its onslaught on the region, and that could have a ripple effect and impact flights across the nation.
Numerous delays have also been reported at major airports in the Midwest, such as St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL), Kansas City International Airport (MCI), and Indianapolis International Airport (IND).
Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is also reporting delays and cancelations due to snow in the area earlier on Monday.
Passengers were also being warned about possible travel delays at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) due to the winter storm in the mid-Atlantic.
Amtrak said it, too, was adjusting train schedules due to the storm. According to officials, some trains operating between Boston and Washington, as well as numerous trains in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, have been canceled.
More than 60 million under winter weather alerts from the Midwest to mid-Atlantic
Winter Storm Warnings stretch across the U.S. from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic and include major cities like Indianapolis, Baltimore and Washington. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Philadelphia.
The FOX Forecast Center said the storm is expected to pound the mid-Atlantic states throughout the day and wind down on Monday night. The heaviest snow is expected from the central Appalachians through the Washington and Baltimore metros, as well as Delaware.
Within the snowfall area, the FOX Forecast Center said a narrow but intense strip of very heavy snow, with snowfall rates approaching 1-2 inches per hour, is expected.
Within that band, travel will be extremely dangerous, if not impossible. Snowfall totals in the double-digits are expected.
The heaviest snow will impact Washington and Baltimore through the afternoon, and as the main area of snow slides offshore, a secondary area of snow will pivot back to the Appalachians and mid-Atlantic into the overnight hours.
Moderate to heavy snow, likely much fluffier than what is occurring on Monday, will add a few more inches of snow before the storm winds down on Tuesday.
