Actor springs into action to help firefighters, move stranded cars as flames rage

Steve Guttenberg sprang into action to help firefighters and moved cars stranded on Sunset Boulevard by residents fleeing the fire, he exclusively told Fox News Digital. “It’s kind of like Zombieland, you know, there’s all these abandoned cars all over the street.”

James Woods thanked first responders in posts shared online for keeping his community safe before evacuating his home as flames from the Palisades Fire roared through hills in his backyard.

Woods, 77, captured images of the wildfire as he evacuated, and kept fans updated throughout the day as the flames reached “two houses” away from his own home. The wildfire sparked Tuesday morning in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials confirmed the Palisades Fire broke out after 11 a.m. near the southeast side of Palisades Drive. Evacuation orders were issued as the blaze grew to approximately 200 acres in size.

Guttenberg – known for his roles in “Police Academy” and “Three Men and a Baby” – urged people who were leaving their vehicles behind while evacuating to also leave their keys, so crews could make their way through to the fire.

“What people do is that they abandon their cars, and it’s a crisis, and they don’t leave their keys in their cars,” Guttenberg told Fox News Digital. “What happens is, the fire trucks can’t get up the street because they have all these abandoned cars with no ability to move them. So what I was doing was helping out move cars and put them up on the hill and clear the way for the fire department.”

Guttenberg noted the blaze was “the biggest fire that we’ve ever seen in the Palisades. It’s enormous.”

“I was able to make it up here, sort of a pocket where there is no fire. So everybody’s safe, and I just wanted to see what I can do to help out some of my neighbors, but it’s a ghost town.”

“We’ve had small fires, but this is definitely the biggest one, and it’s just burning out of control in certain areas,” he said. “I was able to make it up here, sort of a pocket where there is no fire. So everybody’s safe, and I just wanted to see what I can do to help out some of my neighbors, but it’s a ghost town. Everybody’s gone. And and I think that’s what’s important. That’s what it should be in a big fire like this.”

“We were blessed to have LA fire and police depts doing their jobs so well,” Woods wrote. “We are safe and out. There are several elementary schools in our neighborhood and there was an enormous community effort to evacuate the children safely.

“Can not speak more highly of the LA fire and LAPD.”

Fox News Digital contacted Woods’ representative for comment.

Woods’ video appeared to show flames burning on the hillside near a home. It’s unclear if the property in his video was damaged in the blaze.

“Hope everybody gets out safely,” he wrote in another post showing heavy smoke covering the sky.

An hour later, Woods showed flames near the deck of his home in a video shared on X, in addition to “the view from one of our security cameras.”

By 4 p.m., he thanked “the wonderful people who’ve reached out to us” in another post on X. “Thank you for being so concerned. Just letting you know that we were able to evacuate successfully. I do not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly houses on our little street are not.”

He also noted that his neighbor’s house caught fire, but they were safely evacuated.

He added after 5 p.m.: “We cleared and built pathways on our hillside with sprinkler systems that can be remotely managed. We also did brush clearance per local fire prevention mandates. I’m hoping it has done some good. It’s hard to beat the winds this time of year though, if someone is careless.”

Maria Shriver shared a post, “Heartbreaking fire devastating our city. So many friends have evacuated as firefighters from all over are being called in. Stay safe, everyone!”

Molly Sims shared “This is my backyard you guys. Please get out. Help your neighbors, help families, please do what you can. We are evacuated and safe but please send prayers for the Palisades.” Spencer Pratt watched an airtanker make a drop over the flames.

Actor Emile Hirsch posted video of the fire from the beach on his Instagram Stories.

“It is super windy today, there is a fire going on in Palisades,” “THe Darkest Hour” actor said while showing the fire over his shoulder.

As the fire grew in size, Amazon Studios took safety precautions and canceled the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s latest film, “Unstoppable.”

“In light of today’s safety concerns around heightened wind activity and fire outbreaks in Los Angeles, we regret to inform you that we are cancelling tonight’s premiere of ‘Unstoppable,'” the studio confirmed in a statement with Fox News Digital.

“As much as we were looking forward to celebrating this wonderful and inspiring film with you, safety is our first priority.”

An extreme wildfire threat covers much of Southern California through Wednesday as a “life-threatening, destructive, widespread windstorm” is expected Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, Los Angeles forecasters at the National Weather Service said.

Denmark’s prime minister sends blunt message to Trump on Greenland

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized that Greenland is not for sale, as President-elect Trump has ramped up calls for the U.S. to acquire the island.

Frederiksen’s comments to a Danish TV station come as the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., paid a visit to Greenland on Tuesday. The trip is a personal one and Trump Jr. is not expected to meet with any government officials.

The Danish prime minister said in an interview that Greenlandic Prime Minister Múte Egede “has been very, very clear – that there is a lot of support among the people of Greenland that Greenland is not for sale and will not be in the future either,” according to The Hill.

She reportedly told Danish television station TV 2 that Greenland will choose its own future and said, “We need to stay calm and stick to our principles,” while praising the U.S. as a key Danish ally.

In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump said he was “hearing that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA’.” The Republican attached a video that purportedly shows a Greenlander asking the U.S. to buy his country.

A source familiar told Fox News Digital on Monday that Trump Jr. is “popping in for a quick day-long trip to shoot some fun video content for podcasting. He will not be meeting with any government officials or political figures.”

Trump has previously flirted with the idea of buying the territory from Denmark, claiming it is of vital national security interest to the United States.

Trump announces ‘we’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico’

President-elect Trump announced the Gulf of Mexico is getting a new name.

“We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring. That covers a lot of territory,” Trump said on Tuesday. “The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate.”

Trump made the announcement in his first press conference since Congress certified his election win over Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday from Mar-a-Lago. He opened the press event by announcing DAMAC Properties will invest $20 billion in new data centers across the country in addition to previewing a bevy of policy issues ahead of his inauguration this month.

Trump did not detail how his administration would go about renaming the body of water, but went on to slam Mexico for the immigration woes in the U.S. under the Biden White House.

“Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country. They can stop them. And we’re going to put very serious tariffs on Mexico and Canada, because Canada, they come through Canada too, and the drugs that are coming through are at record numbers, record numbers. So we’re going to make up for that by putting tariffs on Mexico and Canada, substantial tariffs,” he said.

‘Obama bros’ trash Biden for ‘feckless’ op-ed about January 6

The liberal hosts behind “Pod Save America” trashed President Biden’s Washington Post op-ed about January 6 as “feckless” and blasted the Democrats for “performing virtue” after Vice President Kamala Harris certified Donald Trump’s election Monday.

“There’s like an entire language that Democrats just need to f–king throw in the trash about like ‘institutions,’ ‘democracy,’ ‘sacred this,'” said Jon Favreau, who served as one of former President Barack Obama’s speechwriters.

Biden warned on Monday that America risks a repeat of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot if the history of the day is forgotten, and called on the country to “commit to remembering” the incident annually.

“But we should not forget. We must remember the wisdom of the adage that any nation that forgets its past is doomed to repeat it. We cannot accept a repeat of what occurred four years ago,” Biden wrote.

‘BEAUTIFUL NAME’: TRUMP ANNOUNCES GULF OF MEXICO WILL GET NEW, PRO-AMERICA REVAMP

Podcast co-host and former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett claimed Biden misunderstood the quote about repeating history, coined by philosopher George Santayana and went so far as to liken Biden to a “stubborn old man.”

“If you’re too mired in the past, if you become, this is from the original philosopher, stubborn like an old man, you also become doomed to repeat yourself,” Lovett said.

“That’s pretty on the nose,” co-host and former Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said.

The hosts savaged the op-ed as being out of step with the American electorate, conceding that the majority of voters “didn’t care” about the events of January 6.

“Biden’s op-ed didn’t say anything,” Favreau said. “An op-ed about Jan. 6 is the perfect encapsulation of how feckless everything feels in this moment.”

The Democratic Party has faced increasing calls to change how it communicates with voters, with critics alleging that it relies on overly “woke” and academic rhetoric that alienates ordinary people.

Clinton campaign alum James Carville called on Democrats to tone down the “idiotic NPR jargon” when talking to voters in an interview Sunday with MSNBC host Jen Psaki.

“Let’s just be authentic and to the point,” Carville said.

The hosts continued to bash Biden’s op-ed for failing to offer any concrete steps to fight back against what they see as a “coup attempt” by Trump.

EX-OBAMA ADVISER CALLS OUT SCHUMER FOR ‘FOOLISH’ CLAIM DEMS DIDN’T MISLEAD ON BIDEN

“Our party is one sad op-ed,” Vietor said.

“Democrats performing virtue, explaining over and over again why the insurrection is so terrible, did not work. This style of politics is not working,” Lovett said.

Vietor claimed the piece made him “very frustrated with Joe Biden all over again for running for re-election.” The trio was part of the liberal pressure campaign against the president to step aside from running for re-election after a dismal debate performance against Trump in June.

Though there were indications throughout his first term that Biden was experiencing a decline, Democrats and the mainstream media frequently covered for his declining mental state.

“His mental acuity is great. It’s fine. It’s as good as it’s been over the years. All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity has declined is wrong,” then-Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told “Meet The Press” in February.

Vietor called out Biden and his close aides as “delusional” after which the Washington Post reported they believed he would have won the election had he stayed in the race.

In a November episode of the podcast, Favreau claimed that Biden’s internal polling had him losing the election by “400 electoral votes.”

Biden is not the only Democratic politician to face accusations of being tone-deaf. After Harris’s campaign bosses appeared on a November post-mortem episode of Pod Save America, listeners accused them of “taking no accountability” for her loss.

Dem gov flip flops on border security after vowing to obstruct Trump admin

Gov. Maura Healey, D-Mass., now hopes the Trump administration fixes the border crisis after previously vowing to fight against its immigration enforcement.

“In just the last two years of my administration … we did see an increase in numbers at the shelters because of Congress’s failure to fix the border,” Healey told Boston Public Radio Tuesday.

“I mean, that’s what happened. We saw an increase in numbers. Donald Trump killed that bill a year ago … he ran on fixing the border. He has the opportunity now with the House and Senate and being in charge of the administration,” the governor said. “I hope he does.”

ICE NABS ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CHARGED WITH SEX CRIMES IN BLUE CITY, AFTER RELEASE FROM JAIL

Healey was addressing concerns about a migrant who was allegedly caught on Thursday with at least $750,000 worth of drugs and an AR-15 rifle at a hotel that is being temporarily used as a shelter.

The suspect, Leonardo Andujar Sanchez, a native of the Dominican Republic, is facing firearm and drug trafficking charges while using the state’s shelter system. The 28-year-old was found at a Quality Inn in Revere, Massachusetts, which currently serves as a shelter.

“I was as outraged as anybody,” Healey told the hosts on Boston Public Radio.

On Monday, the governor put out a statement saying, “I’ve ordered an inspection of all shelter units, beginning with the Revere site, and a full review of our intake processes to determine any additional steps that we can take to prevent criminal activity in shelters.”

Healey’s comments came after she vowed to obstruct President-elect Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement plan shortly after the election.

Healey said on MSNBC in November that her state police would “absolutely not” be cooperating with the expected mass deportation effort by the incoming Trump administration and warned that she will use “every tool in the toolbox” to “protect our citizens.”

“I do think it is important that we all recognize that there is going to be a lot of pressure on states and state officials. I can assure you we’re going to work hard to deliver,” she said at the time. “So I think the key here is that, you know, every tool in the tool box has got to be used to protect our citizens, to protect our residents and protect our states and to hold the line on democracy and the rule of law as a basic principle.”

Healey’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

INCOMING BORDER CZAR WARNS SANCTUARY CITY MAYORS ‘GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY’ OR BE PROSECUTED

Tom Homan, President-elect Trump’s “border czar,” has warned state and local officials about obstructing the incoming administration’s efforts to apprehend illegal immigrants.

“The president has been clear, out of the gate, we are going to focus on public safety threats and national security threats first,” Homan said during an interview on Fox News. “If they don’t want to help us, then get the hell out of the way, we’re going to do it.”

Fact-checking firm staffed by CNN alums fume after being axed by Zuckerberg

A prominent fact-checking organization used by Facebook to moderate political content reacted to news that it will revamp its fact-checking to better avoid bias with an article outlining its disappointment and disagreement with the move.

“Lead Stories was surprised and disappointed to first learn through media reports and a press release about the end of the Meta Third-Party Fact-Checking Partnership of which Lead Stories has been a part since 2019,” Lead Stories editor Maarten Schenk wrote on Tuesday in response to an announcement from Meta that it would be significantly altering its fact-checking process to “restore free expression.”

Lead Stories, a Facebook fact checker employing several former CNN alumni including Alan Duke and Ed Payne, has become one of the more prominent fact checkers used by Facebook in recent years.

Fox News Digital first reported on Tuesday that Meta is ending its fact-checking program and lifting restrictions on speech to “restore free expression” across Facebook, Instagram and Meta platforms, admitting its current content moderation practices have “gone too far.”

CONSERVATIVES REJOICE OVER ‘JAW DROPPING’ META CENSORSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT: ‘HUGE WIN FOR FREE SPEECH’

“After Trump first got elected in 2016 the legacy media wrote nonstop about how misinformation was a threat to democracy,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a video message on Tuesday. “We tried in good faith to address these concerns without becoming the arbiters of truth. But fact-checkers have just been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they created, especially in the U.S..”

“What political bias?” the article from Lead Stories asks before explaining that it is “disappointing to hear Mark Zuckerberg accuse the organizations in Meta’s U.S. third-party fact checking program of being “too politically biased.’”

“Especially since one of the requirements Meta imposed for being part of a partnership included being a verified signatory of the IFCN’s Code of Principles, which explicitly requires a “commitment to non-partisanship and fairness,’” the article states. “In all the years we have been part of the partnership, we or the IFCN never received any complaints from Meta about any political bias, so we were quite surprised by this statement.”

Meta said in its announcement that it will move toward a system of moderation that is more in line with Community Notes at X, which Lead Stories seemed to take issue with.

“However, In our experience and that of others, Community Notes on X are often slow to appear, sometimes downright inaccurate and unlikely to appear on controversial posts because of an inability to reach agrement [sic] or consensus among users,” Lead Stories wrote. “Ultimately, the truth doesn’t care about consensus or agreement: the shape of the Earth stays the same even if social media users can’t agree on it.”

JONATHAN TURLEY: META’S ZUCKERBERG MAKES A FREE SPEECH MOVE THAT COULD BE TRULY TRANSFORMATIONAL

Lead Stories added that Community Notes is “entirely non-transparent about its contributors: readers are left guessing about their bias, funding, allegiance, sources or expertise and there is no way for appeals or corrections” while “fact-checkers, on the other hand, are required by the IFCN to be fully transparent about who they are, who funds them and what methodology and sources they use to come to their conclusions.”

Schenk added, “Fact-checking is about adding verified and sourced information so people can make up their mind about what to believe. It is an essential part of free speech.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Duke said that Lead Stories plans to press on.

“Lead Stories will continue, although we have to reduce our output with no support from Meta,” Duke said. “We are global, with most of our business now outside the USA. We publish in eight languages other than English, which is what will be affected.”

Some conservatives took to social media to blast Lead Stories over their article lamenting the change at Meta after years of conservative pushback to Facebook’s fact checkers as a whole on key news stories, including the suppression of the bombshell reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

“Of all the fact-checking companies, Lead Stories is the worst,” British American conservative writer Ian Haworth posted on X. “Couldn’t be happier that they’ll soon be circling the drain.”

TRUMP SAYS META HAS ‘COME A LONG WAY’ AFTER ZUCKERBERG ENDS FACT-CHECKING ON PLATFORMS

The executive director of Politifact, a fact checker also used by Facebook, issued a strong rebuke of Zuckerberg following Tuesday’s announcement.

“If Meta is upset it created a tool to censor, it should look in the mirror,” Aaron Sharockman said in a statement he posted on X following Zuckerberg’s announcement.

Sharockman fumed, “The decision to remove independent journalists from Facebook’s content moderation program in the United States has nothing to do with free speech or censorship. Mark Zuckerberg’s decision could not be less subtle.”

He threw back Zuckerberg’s accusation of political bias, stating that Meta’s platforms, not the fact-checkers, were the entities that actually censored posts

“Let me be clear: the decision to remove or penalize a post or account is made by Meta and Facebook, not fact-checkers. They created the rules,” Sharockman said.

At the conclusion of his Lead Stories post, Schenk wrote, “Even though we are obviously disappointed by this news, Lead Stories wishes to thank the many people at Meta we have worked with over the past years and we will continue our fact checking mission. To paraphrase the slogan on our main page: ‘Just because it’s now trending without a fact-checking label still won’t make it true.’”

Sunny Hostin’s husband accused of insurance fraud in sweeping federal lawsuit

The husband of “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin has been accused of insurance fraud in a sweeping federal lawsuit filed last month.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin and his practice, Hostin Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, were named among more than 180 defendants in a major RICO case filed in New York on Dec. 17.

According to The Daily Mail, Hostin and the other defendants were allegedly receiving “kickbacks” for performing surgeries and fraudulently billing the insurance company that provides for Uber, Lyft and other taxi companies.

“Hostin knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries,” the lawsuit claims, per The Daily Mail, adding that the American Transit Insurance Company, which filed the lawsuit, was billed “in exchange for kickbacks and/or other compensation which were disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.”

SUNNY HOSTIN LIKENS JANUARY 6 RIOT TO THE HOLOCAUST, SAYS WE CAN ‘NEVER FORGET’

In a press release announcing the $450 million lawsuit, American Transit said, “The federal court complaint, filed in the Eastern District of New York, alleges that the defendants sought to take advantage of New York’s no-fault auto insurance laws, which require insurance companies to reimburse their policyholders for the cost of necessary and documented medical care up to $50,000 for personal or private passenger vehicles ($200,000 for taxis and for-hire vehicles in New York City) for injuries arising out of an accident regardless of fault. These substantial possible no-fault recoveries can incentivize providers with ill intent to over-diagnose, over-treat, and over-bill to recover the most money for themselves.”

According to The Daily Mail, the lawsuit alleges Hostin was given an “investment” interest in the Empire State Ambulatory Surgery Center while receiving a “steady stream” of patient referrals in return.

Two of Hostin’s patients cited in the lawsuit were allegedly treated in January 2023 following involvement in “low-impact” collisions that were said to have only caused minimal damage, “no more than soft-tissue injuries,” but both received arthroscopic surgery.

Hostin’s attorney told The Daily Mail his client denies all the allegations and called the filing a “blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier.”

“It is meant to intimidate and harass doctors from collecting for care given to American Transit insureds and their passengers,” attorney Daniel Thwaites told The Daily Mail. “The real story here is about an insurance carrier abusing the legal system to limit and restrict health care benefits to its insureds and their passengers, and write off its proper obligations.”
