Former child star’s last words to mom as wildfire burns home with him trapped inside

Former child actor Rory Callum Sykes died Wednesday, Jan. 8, a victim of the Palisades Fire, according to his mother, Shelley Sykes. He was 32.

Rory, an Australian actor who was born blind and with cerebral palsy, starred on the British television show “Kiddy Kapers.” In addition to his work in front of the camera, Rory also served as a motivational speaker and helped form the Happy Charity organization with his mom.

Sykes attempted to evacuate their Malibu home when the Palisades Fire ignited, only to have difficulty retrieving emergency services due to limited resources, including power.

“He was my baby, and he died needlessly,” Sykes told Australia’s 10 News First

Sykes said her son lived in a guest house on the family’s 17-acre Malibu canyon property. As the Palisades Fire encroached on the community, she had no form of communication with the outside world.

“Guess what didn’t work? 911 – all the phone lines were down,” she said. “He said, ‘Mom, leave me,’ and no mom can leave their kid. I’ve got a broken arm; I couldn’t lift him. I couldn’t move him.”

In an attempt to evacuate, she drove to her local fire station for help, and was told they had “no water.”

“I said, ‘Oh my God, my son is locked in his room,” Sykes recalled. “When the fire department brought me back, his cottage was burnt to the ground.”

The British-born Sykes moved to Australia as a child. He wrote a book, “Callum’s Cure,” which detailed his determination to not only walk one day, but also see.

“He died with carbon monoxide poisoning rather than burning,” Sykes said she was told by firefighters. “I didn’t want any pain for my baby.”

Sykes is contemplating a class action suit, and is staying in place for the time being.

“I’m not going to move,” Sykes said. “That’s going to be the place, a special place for Rory and I, and we’ll make it even more beautiful than it already was.”

The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported Sunday that the Palisades Fire burned 23,713 acres and is now 11% contained. Five fatalities have been reported since the fire ignited on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Less than 30 miles away, the Eaton Fire, which also ignited on Jan. 7 in Altadena, burned 14,117 acres and is now 27%.  Eleven fatalities have been confirmed.

‘Superman’ actor unleashes on Democrats with prediction about Hollywood and politics

Dean Cain, who grew up in Malibu, California, told Fox News Digital that all of the homes he once lived in there, and in nearby Pacific Palisades, have been destroyed during this week’s Los Angeles-area wildfires.

“I ended up having three different houses in Pacific Palisades, one that I owned, two that I rented and lived in,” Cain said. “The three of those Pacific Palisades’ [homes], all of those burned, gone. Pacific Palisades looks like someone dropped a nuclear weapon on top of it and just flattened everything. I’ve never seen anything like that. Also, three of the houses that I lived in in Malibu are gone.”

The “Lois & Clark” star called the devastationshocking and horrific, but not unexpected. It’s part of the reason I left California was this perfect storm of mismanagement and a failure of leadership.”

ESSENTIAL PHONE NUMBERS FOR LOS ANGELES-AREA RESIDENTS AND HOW YOU CAN HELP THEM

Cain said that when the Woolsey Fire hit in 2018, it burned his backyard but not his house.

We’re used to this in Malibu,” he explained. “We get the wind, we get the fire, so we know how to deal with it. But when you have all the… tools taken away from you, no money, no brush clearance, no controlled burns, all of those things, you end up with a catastrophic situation like this.”

Cain said that although his house survived the Woolsey Fire, his fire insurance was canceled afterward, adding that was part of the reason he left California for Henderson, Nevada, in 2018.

ADAM CAROLLA RIPS CALIFORNIA LEADERS FOR RUNNING STATE ‘INTO THE GROUND’ AS FIRES RAGE: ‘LUNATIC NUTJOBS’

“There’s so many of us that have been shouting from the rooftops, including President Trump, numerous times, way back in the day during his first presidency,” he continued. “He’s been saying it, mismanagement is going to cost you. Removing money from the fire budget is going to cost you. Not controlled burning is going to cost you. Failure to reservoir the water, it’s going to cost you.”

Cain placed the blame squarely on Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom

“You screwed up, Gavin Newsom. You screwed up,” he said. “There was plenty of water. Last year was record rainfall or the year before, record rainfall. Snowmelt, reservoir the water.”

Cain said his water bill was in the thousands per month when he lived in Malibu, and he couldn’t get fire insurance for less than approximately $40,000 a year.

HOLLYWOOD SHUTS DOWN AS PALISADES FIRE RAGES: CRITICS CHOICE POSTPONED, ‘THE PRICE IS RIGHT’ TAPING CANCELED

His son helped him realize that he should leave the state by reminding him that he keeps complaining about the tax policy, the lack of common-sense policies. Why are we living there?”

I was like, ‘Why are we here? What am I doing?’” he said. “And it was weird to leave my home forever, but to come here now [Henderson, Nevada] and to be in this gorgeous home with great policies, you know, castle doctrine, ‘stand your ground’ stuff and things like that, I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, this makes perfect sense.’ And then to watch the disaster unfold, I’m horrified. My heart is broken for the people who are suffering at the hands of this mismanagement. But I’m hoping that that will teach them about common sense.”

He added that “good times create weak men and weak men create hard times.”

Weak policy creates hard times. We’re now in hard times. We need to have strong men so we can create good times again. That’s the way it is. Strong men and women, sound policy. Everybody’s going to be in a better position,” said Cain.

Cain went on to say that he believes liberal people in Hollywood have usually “voted for all these things that really don’t affect” them, “but when it does affect you — you can’t get a permit to rebuild or your house burns down or people loot your home afterwards — suddenly you love the police, you love the firefighters, you love people that you’ve been denigrating for years. You want common sense policy.”

So once it affects you, your votes change,” he said. “And I think this is going to turn a very, very blue state, much more red. I’m hoping California becomes purple and I’m hoping that — listen, my heart goes out to those who have lost everything. And I know they’re going to go through years and years of red tape, nightmare, memories gone. It’s going to be one of those catastrophic events in their lives. And I hope that this will wake up people so they’ll start voting for policies that make sense, common sense, and they’ll prepare for this sort of thing in the future.”

Not that I’m a survivalist or a prepper, because it’s common sense,” he said.

But, Cain said, when you see a tragedy of this magnitude, you see how amazing the American people are, and they come together.”

And there’s been an outpouring of support, food, water, necessities,” he added. “We are the most giving nation in the history of mankind. We will continue to be, you know, as fractured as we can be, [but] there are times in natural disasters, in war and things of that nature, where in the United States people come together. And it’s wonderful to see that happening. It’s going to be a very long, tough road.”

Cain noted that with the nature of the national news cycle, the wildfire devastation would be replaced by more recent news within a few weeks, “but all of these people’s lives are turned upside down.”

I cannot fathom the scale of what’s happened to the Palisades,” he continued. “It’s stunning to me. Palisades High School, gone. I mean, football games. I played at Palisades High School. Dozens… It’s gone. It’s just gone. Like so much of my childhood is gone. I moved away because of the terrible policies. It’s just heartbreaking to see it happen. I don’t want to say I told you so, but I told you so.”

Cain said his mother, who is with him in Nevada, can’t stop crying watching the devastation.

“The house they built from the ground up… is gone to the ground,” he said, adding, “my mom’s been crying for two days.”

Cain added that he feels leaving Malibu for Henderson is “one of the smartest things I’ve ever done.”

“I feel like I’ve been freed,” he said. “Just so many people are just going to be like, you got out just in time. And I did. And because I was blessed to have the means and I had a son, my son Christopher was like, ‘Dad, let’s go.’ And life is so much easier here and so much better. Beautiful neighborhoods and much more value for your dollar… super low taxes in comparison to California, super low regulations in comparison to California. Smarter policy… we’re in the middle of the desert here in Nevada. We have better water rights, and the water is, they say it’s expensive here. It’s cheaper for me to get water here than it was in California… So absolutely [the] right move by me.”

Democrat mayor faces scrutiny again after deadly discovery at illegal immigrant shelter

A Massachusetts state senator is calling the state’s emergency housing assistance program into question after an illegal immigrant was allegedly caught with an AR-15 and about $1 million worth of fentanyl in a state-subsidized hotel room.

Leonardo Andujar Sanchez of the Dominican Republic, 28, was arrested by Revere Police on Dec. 27 and charged with 11 criminal counts in Chelsea District Court. Ten were related to firearms possession – including one for being an “alien” in possession of a firearm – and one for possession of approximately 10 pounds of the synthetic opiate.

Sanchez was also charged in Massachusetts federal court on Wednesday with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl and unlawful possession of a firearm. He had been living at the Quality Inn in Revere, where authorities found five kilograms of suspected fentanyl, an AR-style assault rifle, ammunition, two rifle magazines, digital scales and latex gloves in his room, federal prosecutors said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston estimated that the drugs were collectively worth about $1 million, according to an agency press release. The agency was called in by local police after Sanchez was arrested, and determined that he had entered the U.S. illegally.

TWICE-DEPORTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CHARGED IN GIRLFRIEND’S MURDER: OFFICIALS

Sanchez was arraigned on Dec. 30 and denied bail. Judge Jane Prince ordered the court documents sealed, but records in federal court provided some details about Sanchez’s arrest.

Sanchez’s girlfriend called Revere police around 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 27 to report that he had drugs and a long, black gun hidden under a pink suitcase in their hotel room. The woman told police that she had been living at the Quality Inn for three months and that she and Sanchez had obtained the room through a refugee program.

Police entered the room where Sanchez was sleeping, woke him and handcuffed him. They then found fentanyl, an AR-style assault rifle, ammunition, digital scales and latex scales, commonly used in drug distribution, a Drug Enforcement Administration task force officer wrote in federal court records.

The Executive Office of Housing & Livable Communities told the Boston Herald that Sanchez and his family had been living at the Revere Quality Inn since Oct. 15.

The office told the outlet that it conducts warrant checks on its emergency assistance residences every 30 days, and that it has on-site security at hotels used for the program at all times.

“There is zero tolerance for criminal activity in EA shelters,” the office told Boston 25. “We took immediate action to terminate this individual from the EA system, and we confirmed with federal immigration officials that they have lodged a detainer.”

Gov. Maura Healey said on Tuesday that Sanchez had never applied for housing and was “not part of the (emergency assistance) program. He was in that shelter, though,” WCVB reported.

State Sen. Ryan Fattman questioned how Sanchez was able to take advantage of the program while several of his native-born constituents could not.

“We just had a mother of two whose house burned down in my district a few days ago. And she can’t get access to a shelter because we’ve decided to help the world. I mean, this is outrageous,” Fattman told Fox News Digital.

4 TREN DE ARAGUA MEMBERS ARRESTED TRYING TO SNEAK ACROSS TEXAS BORDER: ABBOTT

Since 1983, Massachusetts has been the only state in the nation to provide a “Right to Shelter” for homeless families – adults accompanied by one or more children. Over the past two years, Fattman said, the state has spent about $2.5 million sheltering undocumented immigrants under its emergency shelter program.

“What we’ve started to learn is that the vetting process for a bunch of these individuals is flawed because we’ve had dangerous criminal migrants coming into Massachusetts and inflicting harm upon not just our people, but some of the people in the shelter,” Fattman said. “And so this gentleman, Sanchez, is the most recent from the Dominican who trafficked $1 million worth of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine and had firearms that are illegal in Massachusetts. And he’s got a taxpayer-funded shelter program, which he’s living out of.”

Residents of the state’s emergency shelter program must be within 115% of federal poverty guidelines, making less than $1,443 per month with an additional $515 for each additional person in the household, the Boston Herald reported.

But according to the outlet, Sanchez has retained a private attorney.

“Criminals are cunning, so they’re not going to reveal if they know there’s a free program that they can take advantage of potentially all their assets, especially if they’re trafficking drugs… They’re not stupid for the most part, and they’re going to take advantage of our laws. And clearly that is what they’re doing,” Fattman said.

AFGHANS LAND IN THE PHILIPPINES FOR VISA PROCESSING AHEAD OF RESETTLEMENT IN US

“And now it just adds insult to injury, because they can clearly afford to have private representation, but a public taxpayer-funded room to live out of and to traffic drugs out of in and they’re in ahead of line in front of people that I represent whose houses are burned down and they have children and about to go homeless, you know, getting driven out of the hotel that they’re renting through insurance money,” he continued.

Fattman insists that unsealing Sanchez’s court documents is the first step to understanding the state’s apparent shortcomings in its vetting process for the program.

“We need to know in order to make the best course forward, how to change this. And the only way to know is by un-impounding the documents and revealing what’s in them and knowing how this person got here – who made the decision to bring them here?” Fattman said. “Like if they’re part of a cartel, you basically have invited the cartels into Massachusetts to do harm to our families, our children. It’s just totally unacceptable.”

Massachusetts’ Republican Party in August accused Healey of quietly having spent over $1 billion on the state’s migrant crisis.

“The Healey-Driscoll Administration has shrouded nearly $1 billion spent in secrecy, leaving Massachusetts residents in the dark,” Massachusetts Republican Party Chair Amy Carnevale said in a statement at the time. “They have withheld critical information on 600 incidents involving police, fire, and EMTs. Blocking journalists at every turn, the administration has obstructed the flow of information to the public.”

The Executive Office of Housing & Livable Communities and the governor’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

During a Friday news conference, though, Healey said Massachusetts is not a sanctuary state, that all shelters are undergoing mandatory searches, and background checks are being conducted on everyone in the state’s shelter system to ensure that no criminals are living in those facilities.

The Democratic governor said she has been disappointed with the federal government’s handling of immigration and hopes President-elect Trump addresses the border issue.

New report outlines strategies to cripple one of America’s greatest enemies

A new report shared with the Trump transition team and shown to Fox News Digital recommends drastic steps to curtail the Iranian regime just days away from the start of President-elect Donald Trump’s second term in office.

“President-elect Trump now has the unique opportunity to push back on the regime in a moment of its significant decline. By using diplomatic, informational, military, and economic means to hold Tehran accountable, he can promote regional stability and a new Middle East,” Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, CEO and founder of United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), told Fox News Digital.

The UANI report, titled “A 100 Day Plan for the Incoming Trump Administration on Iran” is a blueprint for the administration to employ against Iran and has been shared with the Trump transition team, according to its authors.

INSIDE ISRAEL’S DARING RAID THAT DESTROYED IRAN-FUNDED UNDERGROUND MISSILE FACTORY IN SYRIA

“Since 1979, Iran has been the world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism, the major cause of instability in the Middle East, and has brutally repressed its people with impunity,” Wallace said.

The report recommends that the incoming Trump administration take a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach across, as Ambassador Wallace said, the diplomatic, informational, military and economic sectors alongside allies to properly hold Iran accountable for its regional destabilization efforts.

Iran fears the incoming Trump administration, said co-author of the report Jason Brodsky, adding he believes there is a strategic opportunity for Washington and its allies to capitalize on that fear to advance U.S. interests.

“Rushing into premature diplomacy risks undermining that dynamic,” Brodsky, policy director of UANI, told Fox News Digital.

The report outlines several specific policy prescriptions in order to weaken Iran and argues that the U.S. government should first build a pressure campaign against Iran which will sharpen the regime’s choices.

IRAN EXECUTES OVER 1K PRISONERS IN 2024, HIGHEST TOTAL IN 30 YEARS, REPORT SAYS

In this new policy approach, the United States should learn from Israel’s experience since Oct. 7 about how to strike the Islamic Republic militarily without triggering a wider war.

“If the Israelis can do so without triggering a wider war, so can the U.S. government,” Brodsky said.

The authors assert that President-elect Trump should deliver a major policy address to warn Tehran that the U.S. would not hesitate to use military force to destroy Iran’s nuclear program if it takes steps to further advance its capabilities. The International Atomic Energy Agency reported in early December enriched uranium to weapons-grade levels. French President Emmanuel Macron said Iran’s nuclear program is nearing the “point of no return” with many seeing it as a method to build leverage against the incoming Trump administration.

Additionally, the report’s authors say the incoming Republican administration could also use targeted strikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders, Quds Force and Intelligence Ministry assets inside Iran if Iran or its proxies harm Americans. Targeted strikes should also hit Iran’s repressive apparatus through cyber and kinetic means if security forces violently suppress innocent protesters, as happened in 2009 after the disputed presidential election and in 2022 following the death of Mahsa Amini, who had been arrested by the morality police for not covering her hair with a hijab.

U.S. strikes or retaliations against the regime, the report notes, have been non-existent or focused on the Islamic Republic’s proxies.

“That dynamic only emboldens Iranian decision-making to calculate the benefits of these operations against Americans outweigh the costs and to doubt the U.S. resolve to defend its interests. The incoming Trump administration should reverse that calculus and one way to do so is to start holding Iran’s regime responsible on Iranian soil for the terrorism of its proxies,” Brodsky explained. The U.S. should also build a military defector program and encourage political and military actors across the Islamic Republic, including within the Revolutionary Guard and other security forces, to defect from the regime.

IRAN’S NUCLEAR PROGRAM IS NEARING ‘THE POINT OF NO RETURN,’ FRANCE’S MACRON SAYS

A key source of Iranian revenue is provided by its vast oil exports and allows Iran to sustain its terror across the Middle East through its “Axis of Resistance” proxy networks. In 2024, Iran exported 587 million barrels of oil, an increase of 10.75% compared to the previous year due to OPEC cuts and lack of sanctions enforcement.

Claire Jungman, co-author and director of the Tanker Tracking Program and chief of staff of UANI, told Fox News Digital that Iran’s oil exports have surged to nearly 2 million barrels per day—the highest in five years—under President Biden’s administration, reflecting weakened sanctions enforcement and the impact of billions in unfrozen assets.

“The incoming Trump administration has a critical opportunity to halt Tehran’s illicit revenue streams and restore maximum pressure on the regime,” Jungman added.

Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and is a key source of regional Islamist terror groups including Hezbollah and Hamas, the group responsible for the Oct. 7 attacks against Israel. The State Department estimates that Iran provides some $100 million annually to Hamas and helps fund Hezbollah with about $700 million a year.

UANI cautions against some in Western capitals who wish to seek negotiation with Tehran and views this flawed approach of endless negotiations as a way Iran can buy time and avert pressure. Ambassador Wallace said the previous maximum pressure campaign worked, and it’s time to reapply this policy as the regime faces setback after setback as it became embroiled in regional conflict with Israel after October 7th.

“With the loss of its proxies and the support of the Iranian people … the Iranian regime’s days are numbered and, inevitably, the brave Iranian people will rise against the weakened corrupt mullahs,” Wallace said.

Disgraced liberal anchor unleashes another anti-Trump tirade with a new target

Former CNN host Don Lemon went off on MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough after a heated argument broke out on his program Friday over whether people should be “civil” with the incoming Trump administration.

Scarborough had a pointed exchange with former RNC chair Michael Steele after the host praised former President Barack Obama for being friendly with President-elect Trump at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

“You like to say 78 million people voted for Donald Trump, well 82 million people voted for Joe Biden… civility is a two-way street” Steele said.

DON LEMON STANDS BY RANT ON TRUMP SUPPORTERS AFTER ONLINE BACKLASH: ‘TOO F—ING BAD’

“Tell us something we don’t know,” Scarborough shot back during the tense exchange.

Lemon blasted Scarborough for preaching civility toward Trump after months of calling him a fascist and threat to democracy in a profanity-laced rant during his “Live at Five” podcast on Friday.

“If someone disrespects my loved one, I don’t have to smile in their f–king face! And they’re going to know it…. These are the very same MAGA people who have called, and Donald Trump has helped promote, calling Michelle Obama a man. I’m not smiling in your face if you’re calling my sister and my mother or my wife or my girlfriend, a man. F–k you!” Lemon said.

He added, “If they’re going to acquiesce seemingly like that publicly, then what does that mean in the broader sense of the structure of the fabric of our society?”

“Morning Joe” hosts Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have faced months of liberal backlash after the pair trekked to Mar-a-Lago after the election for their first face-to-face meeting with Trump in seven years.

‘MORNING JOE’ CO-HOSTS HOLD FACE-TO-FACE MEETING WITH TRUMP FOR FIRST TIME IN SEVEN YEARS

Washington Post’s media critic Eric Wemple bashed the hosts in a November column entitled “Five reasons Democrats should turn off ‘Morning Joe.’”

“Why cordon off a soul-searching segment of ‘Morning Joe’ for this quasi-revelation? Perhaps to send a signal to MSNBC’s resistance community: You might not like what you see on this program going forward. Could those folks have driven the ratings dip at ‘Morning Joe’ immediately following Monday’s announcement?” Wemple wrote.

Lemon lectured Scarborough on how he thinks he should be covering the incoming administration.

“You have to indicate to the American people that this is not normal…grinning with someone that you have called a fascist over the last couple of years and the last months. That’s not normal. Folks are tired of the behavior being normalized,” Lemon said.

Lemon has not minced words when it comes to how he feels about Trump and his supporters. He referred to Trump as a “cult leader” and some of his voters as “dumb f—ing idiots” with “stupid MAGA brain” during a December episode of his podcast.

In a subsequent episode Lemon said he stood by his comments, calling his critics “butthurt” and saying to those offended “too f—ing bad.”

Eagles star’s conduct on the sidelines as team was in playoff game raises eyebrows

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown raised eyebrows on Sunday night during the team’s playoff win against the Green Bay Packers with what he was doing on the bench.

In the fourth quarter, Brown was on the bench sitting between his teammates when the FOX broadcast caught him pulling out a book to read.

“I haven’t seen too many people read books, but I have seen a quarterback eat a hot dog,” Tom Brady remarked, in reference to former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’s own viral moment during his playing days.

The broadcast then happened to catch the title of the book: “Inner Excellence: Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance and the Best Possible life.” The book was written by Jim Murphy.

JOSH ALLEN LEADS BILLS TO DOMINANT PLAYOFF WIN OVER BRONCOS

“Whether you’re an athlete or entrepreneur, single mother or father of five, you’ll find exercises, techniques and tools in this book that will improve every area of your life,” the description of the book reads. “Your life will take on new meaning as you move beyond the pursuit of happiness to a life of purpose and fulfillment.”

Brown said after the game he brings the book to the sidelines each week.

“It gives me a sense of peace,” he said, via NFL Network. “That’s a book I bring every single game. My teammates call it a recipe. … It’s got a lot of points in there. A lot of mental game.”

Golf great Stewart Cink and PGA Tour coach Matt Killen are both quoted in support of Murphy’s book, according to its Amazon page.

“My #1 tip for success: Read ‘Inner Excellence’ by Jim Murphy,” Cink is quoted as saying.

“I read the first version of ‘Inner Excellence’ six times. I recommend all my clients read it,” Killen is quoted as saying.
