Dem gov risks losing state funds for not complying with GOP’s deportation plans

Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers’ office is already rejecting efforts by state Republicans to require local law enforcement to assist federal immigration officers in identifying and detaining illegal immigrants.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Monday that GOP lawmakers are drafting legislation that would require county sheriffs to ask people in custody to provide proof of U.S. citizenship and report those who cannot to the Department of Homeland Security. The law would also require these sheriffs to work with immigration officers on warrants.

Failure to comply with the law could result in a 15% loss in state aid.

UNVETTED AFGHAN REFUGEES ALLOWED TO LEAVE WISCONSIN MILITARY BASE UNSUPERVISED: REP. TIFFANY

A spokesperson for Evers referred to the draft bill as “not a serious proposal” and said the governor would not support a bill that “reneges on our commitment to support local law enforcement, first responders, and communities across our state.”

“Republican lawmakers are trying to micromanage local law enforcement decisions by threatening to gut state aid by 15% for our local communities — that’s a non-starter,” Evers spokeswoman Britt Cudaback said in a statement to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “We shouldn’t be threatening law enforcement with deep budget cuts, we should be working together with local law enforcement to improve public safety, reduce crime, and keep dangerous drugs and violent criminals off of our streets.”

She added, “After years of the state asking local law enforcement and communities to do more with less, we only just recently secured historic shared revenue increases under which most municipalities will see a 20% increase in state support — and now Republican lawmakers want to essentially take that away.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, State Rep. Tyler August, R-Walworth, criticized Evers for jumping the gun on an immigration enforcement bill that has not yet been made publicly available.

“Legislative Republicans are looking to partner with President Trump to ensure local law enforcement all across Wisconsin are working with the federal government to remove criminals from our communities that are here illegally,” August said.

“Governor Evers has blindly promised to veto a bill he hasn’t seen, which isn’t surprising since his motto has been to govern by veto. Evers’ and Wisconsin Democrats’ extreme positions on immigration make it very unlikely they would agree to deport felons that are illegal aliens.”

Fox News Digital also reached out to the governor’s office for comment.

’60 Minutes’ producer sounds off on Trump lawsuit against CBS News

The executive producer of “60 Minutes” remains defiant and CBS News’ parent company mulls settling a lawsuit waged by President Donald Trump

Bill Owens, who has led the long-running program since 2019, took a tough stance against Trump during a Monday staff meeting, according to The New York Times.

“There have been reports in the media about a settlement and/or apology,” Owens reportedly said. “The company knows I will not apologize for anything we have done.”

‘60 MINUTES’ TRANSCRIPT AT CENTER OF TRUMP’S LAWSUIT AGAINST CBS IS VITAL TO INVESTIGATION, FCC CHAIR SAYS

CBS News is approaching a deadline set by Trump’s Federal Communication Commission chairman Brendan Carr to hand over the transcript of the Kamala Harris “60 Minutes” interview at the center of the controversy.

“The edit is perfectly fine; let’s put that to bed so we can get on with our lives,” Owens said regarding the transcript, per the Times.

CBS News did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital‘s request for comment.

TRUMP COULD BE ON THE VERGE OF LEGAL VICTORY AGAINST CBS AS SETTLEMENT SPECULATION HEATS UP

In October, Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News alleging election interference over its handling of the “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing the network of aiding his Democratic rival through deceptive editing just days before the election.

The lawsuit stems from an exchange Harris had with “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker. In a preview clip that aired on “Face the Nation,” Harris was asked why it seemed like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn’t listening to the U.S.

“Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region,” Harris responded in the “Face the Nation” clip.

Harris was mocked by conservatives for offering a lengthy “word salad” to Whitaker. But when that same question aired the following night in the primetime election special, a shorter, more focused answer from the vice president followed.

“We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end,” Harris said in the primetime special.

Critics accused CBS News of editing Harris’ “word salad” answer to shield the vice president from further backlash, and there were calls for the network to release the full transcript after it only shared transcripts of what had aired.

SEN. BERNIE SANDERS URGES CBS NEWS TO ‘STAND TALL’ AS NETWORK REPORTEDLY CONSIDERS SETTLING TRUMP LAWSUIT

“To paper over Kamala’s ‘word salad’ weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news,” the lawsuit stated.

Trump attorneys argued the edits were done in an effort to “attempt to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party as the heated 2024 Presidential Election — which President Trump is leading — approaches its conclusion.”

“CBS’ partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion calculated to confuse, deceive, and mislead the public,” the lawsuit read.

CBS parent company Paramount Global is reportedly considering settling the suit ahead of a planned merger with Skydance Media in hopes of preventing potential retribution by Trump’s FCC, which has the authority to halt the multibillion-dollar transaction. Shari Redstone, Paramount’s controlling shareholder, is reportedly in favor of settling with the president.

Rumors of a settlement comes just weeks after ABC News settled its defamation lawsuit filed by Trump, resulting in giving him $15 million and a written apology, followed by a $25 million settlement by Meta.

Canada blinks, President Trump delays tariffs on northern neighbor for at least 30 days

President Donald Trump will pause additional tariffs on Canadian imports for 30 days after a call with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who made some concessions to temporarily stave off the levies.

Trump and Trudeau spoke via phone on Monday, hours before additional 25% tariffs were to take effect on Canadian goods coming into the United States. In a post on X, Trudeau said Canada will implement a $1.3 billion border plan and appoint a fentanyl czar.

In addition, Canada will reinforce its border with new helicopters, technology, personnel and enhanced coordination with American authorities. He added that nearly 10,000 personnel are and will be working on border protection.

TRUMP DEFENDS TARIFFS, ACCUSES CANADA OF BEING ‘VERY ABUSIVE OF THE UNITED STATES’

“We will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering,” Trudeau wrote. “I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.”

“Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together,” he added.

Trump has long said Canada and Mexico have failed to do enough to prevent the flow of illegal migrants and drugs, particularly fentanyl, from those nations into the U.S. In addition, Trump claims the U.S. has subsidized Canada to the tune of $200 billion annually.

‘OVERDOSE EPIDEMIC’: BIPARTISAN SENATORS TARGET FENTANYL CLASSIFICATION AS LAPSE APPROACHES

“We need to protect Americans, and it is my duty as President to ensure the safety of all,” Trump wrote in a statement on Saturday, when he imposed the tariffs. “I made a promise on my Campaign to stop the flood of illegal aliens and drugs from pouring across our Borders, and Americans overwhelmingly voted in favor of it.”

Hours before his call with Trudeau, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she would deploy 10,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border over tariff threats.

Trump has promised to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian and Mexican goods, as well as a 10% tariff on Canadian energy and a 10% tariff on all goods entering the U.S. from China. The tariffs on Canada and China were set to go into effect Tuesday at midnight.

FBI agents’ group tells Congress to take urgent action as Trump digs into agency

FIRST ON FOX— The Federal Bureau of Investigation Agent’s Association (FBIAA) sent a letter to House and Senate leaders Monday raising “urgent concerns” over recent actions taken by acting DOJ and FBI personnel, which they say could threaten the careers of thousands of employees and risks disrupting the bureau’s essential work.

The FBIAA, a voluntary professional association representing more than 14,000 active and retired FBI special agents, cited in particular the order from acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to terminate the entire FBI senior leadership team, and the assistant director in charge of the Washington Field Office, as well as the order for bureau employees to compile lists of all current and former personnel who worked on investigations related to January 6, 2021, and a Hamas-related case.

The FBIAA said the lists “will be used to determine whether those individuals should face additional personnel actions,” though the Trump administration has not yet said it will move to take action against individuals involved.

Still, the group said, the recent actions taken by the Trump administration have given them reason for concern.

“Put simply, Special Agents who risk their lives protecting this country from criminals and terrorists are now being placed on lists and having their careers jeopardized for carrying out the orders they were given by their superiors in the FBI,” the group said, saying the actions both lack “transparency and due process,” and “are creating dangerous distractions, imperiling ongoing investigations, and undermining the Bureau’s ability to work with state, local, and international partners to make America safe again.”

President Donald Trump declined to answer questions on Monday over whether his administration would remove FBI employees involved in the investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, telling reporters only that he believes the bureau is “corrupt” and that his nominee for FBI director, Kash Patel, will “straighten it out.”

TRUMP’S ULTIMATUM TO FEDERAL WORKERS: RETURN TO OFFICE ‘OR BE TERMINATED’

“I think the FBI was a very corrupt institution, and I’m a victim of it in the true sense,” Trump told Fox News, adding that he believes the bureau’s reputation has been “damaged badly, as has the DOJ’s.”

“But you know what, we have to have pristine, beautiful, perfect law enforcement,” Trump said.

Former Justice Department officials have cited concerns that the actions could have an incredibly chilling effect on the work of the FBI, including its more than 52 separate field offices, whose agents have decades of experience in detecting and responding to counterterrorism threats, organized and violent crime, drug trafficking, and more.

One retired FBI agent urged calm, noting to Fox News that the acting director and deputy director of the FBI still remain in place. This person also stressed that the Jan. 6 investigation and the FBI personnel involved in investigating each case “fully followed Bureau and DOJ guidelines,” and that violations of federal statutes were “proven beyond a reasonable doubt in federal courts of law.”

Secretary Rubio takes aim at USAID in blistering interview: ‘Rank insubordination’

EXCLUSIVE: Secretary of State Marco Rubio is accusing USAID of “rank insubordination,” adding “we had no choice but to bring this thing under control.”  The top U.S. diplomat made the comments in an exclusive interview with Fox News in El Salvador, just after announcing he would take over as acting director of the humanitarian agency.

Rubio blasted USAID for being “completely unresponsive” telling Fox “they don’t consider that they work for the U.S., they just think they’re a global entity and that their master is the globe and not the United States, and that’s not what the statute says, and that’s not sustainable.”

US FOREIGN AID IS SUPPOSED TO SERVE AMERICAN INTERESTS, SAYS MARC THIESSEN

Rubio refused to say whether the agency “needs to die,” as DOGE chief Elon Musk is suggesting, instead stressing the goal was always to reform it.

“There are things that we do through USAID that we should continue to do, that make sense, and we’ll have to decide, is that better through the State Department or is that better through something, you know, a reformed USAID? That’s the process we’re working through.”

Despite plans for restructuring, Rubio said the United States would remain the “most generous nation on Earth,” but added, in a way that makes sense, that’s in our national interests.

Asked if changes to USAID would open the door for Communist China to increase its influence around the world, Rubio said “No, I mean, first of all, they don’t do that now. If they did, they’d be out there competing with us in these places. But my point is this, even if they did that, why would we fund things that are against our national interests or don’t further our national interests, whether China is there or not? If China wants to waste our money on something that’s against their China, their national interests, go ahead and do it. We’re not going to do it.”

Monday evening, the group and labor union that represents U.S. foreign service workers, released a statement opposing the Trump administration’s actions regarding USAID. “The American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) strongly objects to the administration’s decision to dismantle the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This will undermine U.S. national security, may subvert Congressional authority, and demonstrates a lack of respect for the dedication of the development professionals who serve America’s interests abroad.”

RUBIO HEADS TO PANAMA, LATIN AMERICA TO PURSUE TRUMP’S ‘GOLDEN AGE’ AGENDA

The wide-ranging interview came after Rubio’s visit to Panama and amidst repeated warnings from President Trump that the United State would “take back” the Panama Canal over concerns the Chinese have de facto operational control over it.

Following his visit with the Panamanian President, Jose Raul Mulino announced the central American nation would leave China’s Belt and Road initiative. Rubio welcomes the move but tells Fox that’s not enough and that he hopes to see “additional steps in the days to come.”

President Trump announced 30-day pauses on tariffs on Mexico and Canada. Rubio acknowledge that “changes our economic relationship with our closest neighbors,” adding the State Department is not involved in any negotiations to make Canada the 51st state.

Despite Venezuela’s recent move to release U.S. hostages and accept migrants living illegally in the US, Secretary Rubio said there are still no plans to recognize the Maduro regime as legitimate.  Rubio added “Maduro knows the US has many options to inflict serious damage on his regime.”

President Trump announces new picks for big positions with CIA, Pentagon

President Donald Trump continues appointing new people to his second administration, naming three recent picks in a series of Truth Social posts on Monday.

Just two weeks after taking office, Trump announced that Michael Ellis will serve as deputy director of the CIA. Ellis, who will not need to be approved by the U.S. Senate, will work under CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

Trump wrote that the incoming deputy director, who is also a lawyer, will help “fix the CIA, and make it, once again, the Greatest Intelligence Agency in the World.”

“During my First Term, Michael served at the White House National Security Council, and helped expose abuses of the ‘unmasking’ process by the Obama Administration at the beginning of the Russia, Russia, Russia, Hoax,” the president wrote. “Michael was also General Counsel of the House Intelligence Committee under Devin Nunes, and was selected to be General Counsel of the National Security Agency before being corruptly purged by the Biden Administration.”

In another post, Trump named Joe Kent to serve as director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). According to the agency’s website, the NCTC operates within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and helps officials by “analyzing, understanding, and responding to the terrorist threat.”

“As a Soldier, Green Beret, and CIA Officer, Joe has hunted down terrorists and criminals his entire adult life,” Trump’s Truth Social post read. “Above all, Joe knows the terrible cost of terrorism, losing his wonderful wife, Shannon, a Great American Hero, who was killed in the fight against ISIS.”

“Joe continues to honor her legacy by staying in the fight. Joe will help us keep America safe by eradicating all terrorism, from the jihadists around the World, to the cartels in our backyard,” the president concluded.

Finally, Trump named Sean Parnell to serve as the chief Pentagon spokesman, and to work as the assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs.

“A Great American Patriot, Sean is a fearless Combat Veteran, who led one of the most decorated units in the Afghanistan War,” Trump said of Parnell. “He earned two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart, while his platoon achieved an incredible record of eliminating over 350 enemy fighters.”

Singer calls rapper a ‘fool’ for performing at Trump inauguration party

Outspokenly liberal musician Janelle Monáe condemned rapper Nelly for performing at President Donald Trump’s inauguration festivities last month, arguing he now looks like “a motherf—ing fool.”

On Sunday night, Monáe did a rendition of Nelly’s hit song “Hot in Herre” at a Grammys afterparty. She added her own spin, however, with an improvised, expletive-laced riff, shouting, “F— you, Nelly,” and accusing the original singer of having “sold out.”

“I used to like Nelly, but then he went to perform for Donald Trump,” she said, later declaring, “I care about women, I care about Hispanics…”

Monáe, a Grammy-nominated artist who got her big break with Diddy, later added, “Nelly, you sold out, I used to think you was cool, but now you look like a mother f—ing fool.”

NELLY DEFENDS PERFORMING AT TRUMP’S INAUGURATION, SAYS ‘IT’S AN HONOR’

Nelly defended his performance at the inauguration, telling Fox News Digital in January, “It was an honor to have performed for the highest office in the greatest nation. Now we look to the president to step up, serve, and lift us all.”

The rapper, along with other artists, including Jason Aldean and Billy Ray Cyrus, performed at the Liberty Ball following the inauguration. Ahead of his performance, Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., attended the Commander In Chief Ball.

A source said throughout the evening that Nelly took photos with military officers and thanked them for their service. The source had previously disclosed to Fox News Digital that the rapper, who was born on a military base, had several family members who served, a sentiment noted in his entrance on stage.

He has also declared publicly that he did the performance not for the money, but out of respect for the institution of the presidency.

“I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this ’cause it’s an honor. I respect the office,” the St. Louis native told fellow rapper, Willie D. “It don’t matter who is in office. The same way that our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country, have to go to war and have to put their life on the line for whoever [is] in office.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Nelly for comment.

‘THE VIEW’ HOSTS RIP SNOOP DOGG, NELLY FOR PERFORMING AT TRUMP INAUGURATION FESTIVITIES

“So, if they can put their life on the line for whoever [is] in office, I can damn sure perform for whoever [is] in office,” he added.

Snoop Dogg also faced backlash for performing at the Crypto Ball at Trump’s inauguration, a remarkable change from his previous stance condemning artists who might perform for Trump in 2017.

The artist faced widespread backlash ranging from social media users to hosts of “The View,” but shrugged off the backlash.

“It’s Sunday, I got gospel in my heart,” he said in the video clip posted on Instagram. “For all the hate I’m going to answer with love, I love too much. Get your life right, stop worrying about mine. I’m cool. I’m together. Still a Black man. Still 100% Black. All out ’til you ball out or ’til you fall out.”

Monáe, who has also starred in films like Hidden Figures and Glass Onion, has shared incendiary rhetoric about those who associate with Trump before.

In 2020, she wrote in a screenshot obtained by Pop Crave, “F— Donald Tromp [sic] and every American citizen, celebrity, white woman, black man, ETC who supported him burnnnnnnnnnn.”
