Photographer wins Pulitzer for capturing photo of mid-air bullet inches from Trump
A New York Times photographer was awarded with a Pulitzer Prize Monday for his photos of the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The July 13 event yielded numerous historic photos and videos, such as when Trump quickly got up after being shot as Secret Service agents escorted him off the stage holding his fist in the air while shouting the words, “Fight, fight, fight.”
One iconic image by The Times’ Doug Mills managed to capture the split-second moment a speeding bullet was seen mid-air next to Trump’s head at the rally. The photo was one of several he captured that day that earned him one of the most prestigious awards in journalism.
Days after the assassination attempt, Mills sat down with Fox News at the Republican National Convention to share his firsthand account of the shocking ordeal.
ATTEMPTED TRUMP ASSASSIN SEEN WALKING AROUND PENNSYLVANIA RALLY HOURS BEFORE OPENING FIRE
“I just happened to be down, shooting with a wide-angle lens just below the president when he was speaking. There was a huge flag waving right above his head, and I just happened to be taking pictures at the same time,” he told “America’s Newsroom” in Milwaukee at the time.
“Then, when I heard the pops, I guess I kept hitting on the shutter, and then I saw him reach for his [ear]. He grimaced and grabbed his hand and looked. It was blood, and then he went down, and I thought, ‘Dear God, he’s been shot,'” he continued.
Mills said the moment he discovered he had captured an image of the bullet whizzing past Trump was a “surprise” to him.
It happened after he was ushered into a tent and began sending photos of Trump’s defiant fist pump to an editor.
“I was like, ‘Oh, hell. I remember taking pictures of him when this happened. Let me go back and look.’ I started looking at it. I started sending them right away, and I called one of the editors and said, ‘Please look at these really closely. This might have been near the moment where he was shot,’” he said.
“She called me back like five minutes later and said, ‘You won’t believe this.’ She goes, ‘We actually see a bullet flying behind his head, and I was like, ’Oh my gosh.'”
Mills said he captured the rally images with a Sony a1 camera.

“Doug Mills of The New York Times won the breaking news photography prize for his photos capturing the attempted assassination of President Trump last year, including an image in which a bullet can be seen,” the New York Times’ media reporter Katie Robertson reported as she touted three other other Pulitzers The Times won for stories on Sudan, Afghanistan and Baltimore.

MSNBC walks back ‘misstatement’ about FBI head Kash Patel
MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Monday had to walk back an eyebrow-raising claim made the previous week about FBI Director Kash Patel.
On Friday’s edition of the morning talk show, Frank Figliuzzi, a former assistant director at the FBI, shared the claim that Patel had been seen out partying more often than working at the office.
“Reportedly, he’s been visible at nightclubs far more than he has been on the seventh floor of the Hoover building,” Figliuzzi told “Morning Joe” co-host Jonathan Lemire. “And there are reports that daily briefings to him have been changed from every day to maybe twice-weekly.”
NYC MAYOR ERIC ADAMS ADMITS THE DEEP STATE IS ‘REAL,’ CREDITS KASH PATEL’S BOOK FOR GETTING IT RIGHT
Figliuzzi, who is a national security and intelligence analyst for MSNBC, said his contacts at the FBI told him the agency was in a state of “chaos.”
“People don’t know what’s happening from day-to-day,” he added.
Figliuzzi’s comments were picked up by several media outlets last week. On Monday’s show, Lemire took a moment to retract those comments.
“Frank Figliuzzi was on that hour, discussing the work of administration officials,” Lemire began, referring to Friday’s “Morning Joe.”
“At the end of that segment, Figliuzzi said that FBI Director Kash Patel has been more visible at nightclubs than the FBI headquarters. This was a misstatement. We have not verified that claim,” Lemire said.
KASH PATEL, FBI TOUT $5M REWARD FOR CAPTURING MS-13 ‘TERRORIST LEADER’ UNLEASHING EVIL ON AMERICANS
MSNBC did not immediately return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
FBI spokesperson Ben Williamson declined to comment.
Last month, Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll replaced Patel as acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). A source close to Patel previously told Fox News Digital that the role was taken off of his plate so he could focus on his role as FBI director.

ICE nabs illegal migrant after blue city court drops child abduction charges
An illegally present Honduran national was nabbed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents after they said local authorities dropped a series of his charges, which included child abduction and home invasion.
Agents with ICE in Washington, D.C., arrested Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez, 26, in Fairfax, Virginia, on May 2, officials said in a news release.
“Though the court saw fit to drop his most recent charges, Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez has been convicted of numerous crimes in Virginia and represents a calamitous hazard to our Virginia residents,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Washington, D.C., Field Office Director Russell Hott.
Officials said his charges include abduction of a person with intent to defile and burglary, entering a house to murder, rape, etc.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA., REPEATEDLY RELEASED HONDURAN CHARGED WITH SEX CRIMES, IGNORED ICE DETAINER REQUEST: FEDS
“Every one of his convictions represents another one of our neighbors that Baquedano-Rodriguez has victimized. ICE Washington D.C. will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien offenders from our Washington, D.C. and Virginia communities,” Hott said.
ICE officials said Baquedano-Rodriguez was first arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents on Aug. 25, 2018, after he illegally entered the United States near Yuma, Arizona.
Baquedano-Rodriguez was then released on an immigration bond by a DOJ immigration judge in Eloy, Arizona, on Jan. 22, 2019.
Fairfax County police arrested Baquedano-Rodriguez on Nov. 9, 2021, and charged him with three counts of indecent liberties, including exposing genitals to child and indecent exposure.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said his administration’s top priority is “protecting Virginians.”
“Protecting Virginians has been a top priority of our administration since day one, and it should be a priority for every leader at the federal, state and local level,” Youngkin said. “That’s exactly why the Virginia Homeland Security Task Force is so important. I’m grateful to our law enforcement officers at every level for working hard to keep Virginians and Americans safe, and I’ll always stand with them.”
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT RELEASED BY BIDEN ADMIN PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO MURDER OF GEORGIA GRANDMOTHER
Homeland Security also confirmed the arrest and said Baquedano-Rodriguez remains in ICE custody.
“MAKING AMERICA SAFE AGAIN: @ICEgov arrested Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez, an illegal alien, after a Fairfax County court dropped charges for abduction of a person with intent to defile and burglary. This child sexual predator will remain in ICE custody pending his removal,” the department shared in a post on X.
Officials said Baquedano-Rodriguez was convicted in September 2022 of entering property with intent to damage by a Fairfax County General District Court and sentenced to 18 months in prison and imposed restitution.
Less than two weeks later, officials said the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court convicted him of disorderly conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and he was sentenced to 12 months in prison for each conviction.
Baquedano-Rodriguez was convicted again, officials said, in March 2023 of entering property with intent to damage by Fairfax County General District Court and sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Then, in June 2024, officials said a DOJ immigration judge in Annandale, Virginia, ordered Baquedano-Rodriguez removed from the United States to Honduras.
TWICE-ARRESTED HONDURAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ACCUSED OF SEX CRIMES APPREHENDED A THIRD TIME
On May 2, 2025, the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court dismissed Baquedano-Rodriguez’s charges for abduction of a person with intent to defile and burglary: entering a house to murder, rape, etc.
However, later that day, officers with ICE Washington D.C. arrested him in Fairfax, Virginia, and served him with a warrant of removal. Baquedano-Rodriguez remains in ICE custody.
This was not the first time a Honduran national with a criminal background was released by Fairfax County officials.
Last April, Fairfax County repeatedly released a Honduran national charged with sex crimes and ignored an ICE detainer request.
Immigration officials arrested the 30-year-old Honduran national at his residence in Bladensburg, Maryland, on April 15, after Fairfax County twice released him.

“This Honduran noncitizen stands accused of some very serious crimes and represented a threat to the children of the Washington, D.C. area,” ICE said. “When local jurisdictions have policies in place which prohibit them from cooperating with ICE ERO and from honoring our lawfully issued detainers and administrative warrants, they put the suspects, law enforcement officers, and most importantly, the members of our local communities at risk.”
ICE said that it was unknown when and where exactly the Honduran national originally entered the U.S. The agency said the man was arrested and released multiple times on charges of sex crimes with a child.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed to continue to “keep fighting every day” to secure the border.
“100 days ago, I took an oath to serve this country as Secretary of Homeland Security. I will continue fighting every day alongside President Donald Trump to secure our border and keep American communities safe. This is just the beginning of the Golden Age of America. God bless this great country,” Noem wrote in a post on X.
Dem rhetoric about ‘fighting oligarchy’ mocked as Alex Soros’ luxury home goes viral
Conservatives skewered an online photo of liberal megadonor Alex Soros and former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
An article from The New Yorker went viral on Monday for showcasing notable New Yorkers in their living rooms, ranging from big names in entertainment to politics. Staff writer Naomi Fry summarized that living rooms are “the most public-facing of a home’s spaces, and, as such, it bears a particular burden: that of showcasing to others who the occupants are.”
Many of the photos that went viral were specifically those of Democrats. Conservative social media account ComfortablySmug shared four images featuring Soros and Abedin, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., MSNBC host and activist Rev. Al Sharpton, and former Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff.
“[Ladies] and gentlemen, the Democrat party,” Comfortably Smug wrote.
EX-CLINTON AIDE HUMA ABEDIN ENGAGED TO GEORGE SOROS’ SON
Republican communications staffer Steve Guest poked fun at the photo of Sharpton, quipping, “Of course Al Sharpton has a photo of just himself hanging on his wall.”
The photo featuring Soros went particularly viral because of the Democrat’s recent focus on fighting oligarcy. The successor of liberal megadonor George Soros sits while holding hands with his new fiancée Huma Abedin in what appears to be an expensive minimalist apartment with a massive view of the city behind them. Manhattan is known as one of the most prohibitively expensive real estate markets in the world.
“Sure let’s have that oligarchy conversation,” The Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller said, appearing to refer to the recent “Fighting Oligarchy” tour where Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Ocasio-Cortez have rallied Americans against the influence of the mega-wealthy in American politics.
Political strategist Matt Schuck responded with a similar, “Tell me again about that whole ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ tour.”

Many also found the photo to be tone-deaf.
“This is weird,” the account representing the conservative media outlet, Townhall, wrote.

Hegseth orders ‘historic’ reduction of general officers in the military
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on Monday that the U.S. military will soon be seeing a dramatic reduction in the number of general officers across all branches.
He called the reduction a “historic” move to fulfill President Donald Trump’s commitment to “achieving peace through strength.”
“We’re going to shift resources from bloated headquarters elements to our warfighters,” said Hegseth.
According to Hegseth, there are currently 44 four-star and flag officers across the military, making for a ratio of one general to 1,400 troops, compared to the ratio during World War II of one general to 6,000 troops.
HEGSETH ORDERS SWEEPING ARMY OVERHAUL AND CONSOLIDATION AIMED AT COUNTERING CHINA AND GOLDEN DOME CAPABILITIES
Hegseth, who has pledged to transform the military into a “leaner, more lethal force,” issued a memo to senior Pentagon personnel on Monday in which he ordered the reductions to be carried out in two phases.
In the first phase, Hegseth ordered a “minimum” 20% reduction of four-star generals and flag officers in the active-duty component as well as a 20% reduction in the National Guard.
In phase two, the secretary is ordering an additional 10% reduction in general and flag officers across the military.
The secretary called the reductions part of his “less generals, more GIs policy.”
BILLIONS SPENT, WARFIGHTERS WAIT: INSIDE THE PENTAGON’S BROKEN BUYING SYSTEM AND THE PLAN TO FIX IT
In a video announcing the change, he said the reductions will be done “carefully, but it’s going to be done expeditiously.”
He said “this is not a slash-and-burn exercise meant to punish high-ranking officers” but rather a “deliberative process, working with the joint chiefs with one goal: maximizing strategic readiness and operational effectiveness by making prudent reductions.”

“We got to be lean and mean. And in this case, it means general officer reductions,” said Hegseth.
Congress sets the number of general officers allowed in the military. The total number of active-duty general or flag officers is capped at 219 for the Army, 150 for the Navy, 171 for the Air Force, 64 for the Marine Corps and 21 for the Space Force.
Former head coach is back in professional football — but not the NFL
Jon Gruden is back in professional football, but it’s not with the NFL.
The former head coach will be joining the Nashville Kats in the Arena Football One League as a part-owner.
Gruden won’t be a head coach, but rather the team said he will be in “consulting and advisory roles in all aspects of the team’s football and business operations.”

Gruden joins an ownership group that includes former Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher, who also serves as the league’s commissioner and Kats president.
“I have been a fan of indoor football for a long time and jumped at the opportunity to be involved with Jeff and the Nashville Kats as part of the ownership group,” Gruden said in a statement. “I have so much respect for what Jeff has done over his career and continues to do with the Nashville Kats and as commissioner of AF1. I’m excited to be part of the team.”
JON GRUDEN RECALLS HILARIOUS PEYTON MANNING JAB AFTER ILL-ADVISED PLAY CALL
Gruden has not been involved with any professional football team at any level since he resigned as the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach during the 2021 season. The resignation came after damning emails he sent prior to being hired by the franchise, which included anti-gay, racist and misogynistic comments.
The 61-year-old held an advisory role with the New Orleans Saints in 2023, though he wasn’t an official part of the staff.
He did file a lawsuit against the NFL for contract interference and conspiracy, but a three-justice panel in Nevada Supreme Court sided 2-1 with the NFL. Gruden appealed the decision and it will be reviewed by a seven-person court at a later date.
While Gruden is well known for his time in the NFL, his younger brother, Jay, has won four Arena Football League titles as a player and two as a coach before he jumped into the NFL.
Since his resignation, Gruden has stayed connected with the NFL, most recently joining Barstool Sports to provide his expertise for the sports media company.

Trump transportation boss reacts to communications failure at major US airport
A damning report has found that air traffic controllers briefly lost radar and radio signals while guiding planes to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey last week.
Bloomberg first reported on Monday that air traffic controllers lost signal for nearly 90 seconds on April 28, shortly before the airport suffered massive delays and flight cancellations.
The air traffic controllers were working at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) operation in Philadelphia that guides flights into and out of Newark. Anonymous sources told the outlet that multiple employees were placed on trauma leave after the incident.
The National Air Traffic Controllers Association confirmed the incident to Fox News Digital, writing that the facility had “temporarily lost radar and communications with the aircraft under their control, unable to see, hear, or talk to them.”
UNITED AIRLINES CEO SAYS FAA NEEDS TO FIX 3 THINGS: AMERICANS DESERVE ‘MUCH BETTER’
“The dedicated, American, hard-working employees who serve as controllers are the foundation of our air traffic control system,” the union added. “These controllers and the thousands of other aviation safety professionals represented by NATCA ensure the safe and efficient movement of millions of passengers and tons of cargo through our dynamic airspace every day.”
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy appeared on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle” to discuss the debacle. During the segment, he said that the incident took place over a span of 30 seconds, conflicting with previous reporting.
“This should have been dealt with in the last administration,” Duffy said. “They did nothing. So the primary communication line went down, the backup line didn’t fire… [and] we lost contact with air traffic control. That’s a big problem.”
Duffy went on to deny that plane crashes were likely during the brief incident.
“Now, were planes going to crash? No, they have communication devices,” he explained. “They can see other air traffic like GPS in the airplanes. But it’s a sign that we have a frail system in place, and it has to be fixed.”
In the days after the incident, chaos ensued at Newark Liberty International Airport when hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled at the New Jersey travel hub.
More than 200 flights were delayed at Newark on Friday, with around 20 being canceled, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware. The airport reported that it was “experiencing inbound flights delayed at their origin an average of 1 hour 32 minutes.”
ELON MUSK EXPECTED TO HELP IMPROVE ‘REALLY OUTDATED’ FAA FUNCTIONS, TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY DETAILS
The grim travel day followed an even worse day on Thursday, when more than 500 flights in and out of Newark were delayed and at least 200 others were canceled.
The chaos continued through the weekend, and as of Monday at 3 p.m., 145 flights were delayed and 76 were canceled.
In a statement obtained by FOX Business on Monday, the FAA addressed the staffing shortages that have contributed to the issue.
“While we cannot quickly replace [the controllers who have left] due to this highly specialized profession, we continue to train controllers who will eventually be assigned to this busy airspace,” the statement read.
“When staffing or equipment issues occur, the FAA will ensure safety by slowing the rate of arrivals into the airport. We will keep the public updated as we work through these issues.”
Duffy addressed the chaos in an X post on Friday and called for an infrastructural update to air transportation.
“The technology that we are using is old. That’s what is causing the outages and delays we are seeing at Newark,” Duffy said.
“If we don’t act, we will start to see these issues across the national airspace,” he added. “That’s why I’m announcing a plan next week to build an all-new air traffic control system.”
On Monday, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy praised Duffy’s efforts but requested immediate help in controlling the air traffic chaos in the Garden State.
“The FAA has stated that American airspace is short 3,000 air traffic controllers and I appreciate your efforts to retain and hire additional controllers,” the Democrat wrote. “As the FAA works to address the yearslong shortfalls, I urge you to prioritize the region, the busiest airspace in the nation, by immediately addressing Philadelphia TRACON Area C staffing levels and developing a plan to address chronic staffing shortages at New York TRACON.”

FOX Business reached out to the FAA for additional comment but did not immediately hear back. The Port Authority declined to comment.
