General Situation
A trough of low pressure edged closer to the coast of Guangdong gradually today. The associated showers and thunderstorms affected the region. Locally, it was very hot during the day. Temperatures over many places rose to 33 degrees or above. More than 10 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over the northern part of the New Territories and Lantau Island at night. The trough of low pressure will continue to affect the coast of southern China tomorrow. An easterly airstream will affect the region in the following couple of days.

Thunderstorm Warning issued at 6:15 p.m. on 23 May 2025 has been extended until 12:30 a.m. tomorrow. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur over Lantau, Southern Waters and Islands of Hong Kong.
Members of the public are advised to take the following precautions when thunderstorms occur:
1. Seek safe shelter if you are staying outdoors.
2. Leave the water. Do not swim outdoors or engage in other outdoor water sports.
3. Do not stand on high grounds. Keep away from highly conductive objects, trees or masts.
