Trump shares major update after threatening to impose 50% tariffs on EU
President Donald Trump has agreed to a request for an extension on a proposed 50% tariff on imports from the European Union, which he initially threatened would go into effect on June 1.
In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump said he received a call from European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen requesting an extension on the June 1 tariff hike.
“I agreed to the extension — July 9, 2025 — It was my privilege to do so,” Trump wrote. “The Commission President said that talks will begin rapidly. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

While speaking to reporters on Sunday at Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey, Trump said von der Leyen called him and said she wants to have a “serious negotiation.”

Von der Leyen also took to X to say she had a “good call” with Trump and that Europe is “ready to advance talks swiftly and decisively.”
On Friday, Trump threatened to impose a 50% tariff on imports from the European Union amid ongoing trade negotiations.
“Their powerful Trade Barriers, Vat Taxes, ridiculous Corporate Penalties, Non-Monetary Trade Barriers, Monetary Manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against Americans Companies, and more, have led to a Trade Deficit with the U.S. of more than $250,000,000 a year, a number which is totally unacceptable,” Trump said. “…Therefore, I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris was angry over former President Biden donning a Trump 2024 hat during an event in September 2024, which quickly went viral on social media at the time, according to Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s new book.
“What is he doing?” the former vice president asked her team in response to the video, according to the book. “This is completely unhelpful. And so unnecessary.”

Harris attempted to distance herself from the remarks.
“I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” Harris said. “You heard my speech last night and continuously throughout my career. I believe that the work that I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not.”
The book also revealed that the former president recorded several 2024 campaign videos that were ultimately deemed “unusable” due to his missteps.

In one case, Biden’s team sought to film a video for the campaign for ads on television in a high school gym where people could ask questions like they would at a town hall meeting.
“The campaign was trying to make it look like the president was out there taking off-the-cuff questions from voters in public,” the book said. “But the event was closed to reporters, and the campaign had the full list of questions that people would ask.”
However, Biden had so much “trouble” getting through the questions that his team decided to scrap the footage. While some attributed challenges to poor lighting in the gym, the book said that others identified Biden as the real problem.
Horry County police respond to mass shooting with multiple victims in Little River
The Horry County Police Department is asking locals to steer clear of the area following reports of a mass shooting.
The incident occurred on Watson Avenue in Little River and police are saying that at least 11 individuals have been transported to area hospitals by Horry County Fire Rescue.
Police also said via social media that they have received reports of others arriving at area hospitals via personal vehicles.

Police search residence for New Orleans jailbreak escapee, make 5 arrests
Police made five more arrests in connection with a prison break in New Orleans this weekend, Fox News has learned.
The five arrests make a total of 12 people who have been accused of helping the inmates either before, during or after their escape from the New Orleans Jail last week.
The arrests include 28-year-old Lenika Vanburen, 18-year-old Patricia Vanburen, 27-year-old Tyshanea “Minnie” Randolph, 47-year-old Lenton Vanburen Sr., and 40-year-old Angel McKey. A source confirmed to Fox News that Vanburen Sr. is the father of one of the escaped inmates, Lenton Vanburen Jr.
Authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in New Orleans’ 7th District in hopes to find the fugitive Vanburen, but he was not there.

The five individuals arrested this weekend were accused of specifically assisting the younger Vanburen in evading the police.

The arrests come days after police apprehended another suspect accused of helping inmates on Friday. Police say Emmitt Weber, 28, helped two of the inmates after the jailbreak at the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility.
As of Sunday, five of the 10 escaped inmates remain at large.
The most recent arrest was made when Corey Boyd was taken into custody Tuesday.
The other inmates recaptured are Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Dkenan Dennis and Gary Price.
Two others — Casey Smith and Cortnie Harris — have been arrested for allegedly aiding the escapees. Another woman, Connie Weeden, 59, allegedly gave cash to Donald via a cellphone app.
She is charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact.
The following fugitives are still at large:
- Vanburen Jr., 27, faces charges of illegal carrying of weapons, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon, obstruction of justice and introducing contraband in prison.
- Jermaine Donald, 42, faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon and obstruction of justice.
- Antoine Massey, 32, faces charges of domestic abuse involving strangulation, theft of a motor vehicle and a parole violation.
- Derrick Groves, 27, faces three counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and battery of a correctional facility employee.
- Leo O. Tate Sr., 31, faces charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon, illegal carrying of a weapon, motor vehicle theft and multiple drug counts.

Coastal town moves to seize church property and turn it into recreational hot spot
A New Jersey town has moved to seize a 10-acre church property and turn it into recreational space, outfitted with pickleball courts and soccer fields.
Christ Episcopal Church in Toms River, New Jersey, found itself at the center of a highly charged legal battle after its leaders moved to expand outreach to the area’s homeless population and proposed a 17-bed overnight shelter.
“It didn’t take long for neighbors to become concerned,” Harvey York, the church’s attorney, told Fox News Digital.
On April 30, the Toms River Township Council placed an ordinance on its agenda to condemn the church’s 10-acre site, which includes the parish house, auditorium, school, sanctuary and deacon’s residence, under its eminent domain power.
CHURCH FIGHTS NEW JERSEY TOWN OVER PLANS TO SEIZE PROPERTY AND TURN IT INTO PARK
The town’s plan is to turn the congregation’s property into a recreational area.
“Any governmental agency has the right to condemn property for governmental purposes. That’s clear. However, the township has never thought of this as a recreational site,” York said. “For them to say they need recreational land flies in the face of the facts and their master plan.”
York and his legal team argue that the move to seize the property is the township’s direct response to the church’s shelter initiative.
“It is clear that this is being done in retaliation for the church making an application for a homeless shelter,” he said, pointing to both the constitutional protections for freedom of religion and the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act.
“I don’t know that you’ll find a lawyer who will say, ‘Oh, yeah, they have every right to do this; they’re going to win.’”
Despite rising community support, from local congregants to offers of amicus assistance nationwide, reactions remain mixed within the New Jersey town.
“There are people that are thrilled that the mayor is going to condemn the property,” York said, but he believes “the majority of the community is shocked and dismayed.”

As for the church’s next steps, litigation is certain.

Five or six hearings have taken place, and the next zoning board meeting is scheduled for May 22. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Township of Toms River for comment on the pending litigation and the hearings.
The church originally applied in July 2023 to operate an outreach center for the homeless, an effort that was approved. According to York, their application for the shelter fully complies with local and state regulations.
Seattle mayor blames Christian rally for provoking counter-protest violence
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell blamed a Christian rally and infiltrating “anarchists” for violence breaking out at a counter-protest on Saturday.
The Seattle Police Department reported 23 people were arrested at Cal Anderson Park during MayDayUSA’s “Don’t Mess With Our Kids” rally and a pro-LGBTQ counter-protest. According to SPD, police witnessed “multiple people inside one group throw items at the opposing group” and, while arresting individuals, were assaulted by other individuals, leading to an officer requiring medical treatment.
After the scuffle broke out, Harrell’s office released a statement defending the LGBTQ community and criticizing the “far-right rally” for provoking the violent reaction.
“Seattle is proud of our reputation as a welcoming, inclusive city for LGBTQ+ communities, and we stand with our trans neighbors when they face bigotry and injustice,” the statement read. “Today’s far-right rally was held here for this very reason – to provoke a reaction by promoting beliefs that are inherently opposed to our city’s values, in the heart of Seattle’s most prominent LGBTQ+ neighborhood.”

Harrell added his support for people who peacefully protest an “extreme right-wing national effort to attack our trans and LGBTQ+ communities.” He also suggested an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the approval of MayDayUSA’s initial event.
“While there are broad First Amendment requirements around permitting events under free speech protections, I am directing the Parks Department to review all of the circumstances of this application to understand whether there were legal location alternatives or other adjustments that could have been pursued,” the statement read. “The Police Department will complete an after-action report of this event, including understanding preparation, crowd management tactics, and review of arrests and citations.”

College baseball game erupts in chaos after animated home run celebration
Tensions flared during Saturday’s NCAA baseball game between Samford and Mercer.
Samford outfielder Michael Gupton hit a two-run homer to increase the Bulldogs’ lead over the Mercer Bears. Gupton appeared to shout something at Mercer players during his spirited jog around the bases.

Gupton’s words seemed to target at least one player on the baseball diamond as well as the Mercer dugout. Gupton eventually touched home plate and celebrated with his Samford teammates.
A visibly frustrated Mercer shortstop, Bradley Frye, attempted to follow Gupton and had to be held back by umpires. Mercer coaches also voiced their frustrations to the umpires.

Frye’s mother was also shown the door after she was seen standing and jumping on top of the dugout moments after she learned of her son’s ejection. Other Mercer fans were tossed out after they went onto the dugout roof.
The game was delayed for approximately 25 minutes.

Family honors life of ‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson after his death at 79
“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson has died at the age of 79, his family announced on Sunday.
Robertson, famous for founding the Duck Commander hunting company that became the focus of his A&E show, had previously battled multiple health conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease. The TV personality’s daughter-in-law Korie Robertson announced his death on Instagram Sunday night.
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” Korie Robertson’s post read.
“He reminded us often of the words of Paul, ‘you do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him,” the post continued.

During a December episode of “Unashamed with the Robertson Family,” Robertson’s diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease was announced. His son Willie Robertson later spoke with Fox News Digital by phone, saying that Phil was “battling a lot of different things right now.”

“The No. 1 question I get everywhere I go [is], ‘How’s your dad doing?’ Now, I’m just giving the blunt truth. I say, ‘Not good,'” son Jase Robertson said.
