Trump administration takes ‘decisive action’ against cartels after Marine’s murder in Mexico

FIRST ON FOX: The Department of Homeland Security released a video honoring late Marine Corps veteran Nicholas Quets and highlighting his death at the hands of the Sinaloa Cartel, which the department says it is taking “decisive action” to address.

“Drug cartels are being called what they truly are: foreign terrorist organizations,” the two-and-a-half-minute video states before showing an interview with retired Army Lt. Col. Warren D. Quotes Jr. and Patricia Quets, whose son Nicholas was shot and killed at a Sinaloa Cartel checkpoint on his way to Rocky Point, Mexico, with friends on Oct. 18, 2024.

The cartel members attempted to steal Quets’ pickup truck before shooting him in the back through the heart, ending his life at 31 years old.

“I felt validated and vindicated,” Quets’ father says in the video, explaining how Trump spoke with him about his son’s death after receiving no feedback from the Biden administration or the Kamala Harris campaign.

TRUMP SANCTIONS ARE ‘FULL-FRONTAL ASSAULT’ ON ORGANIZED CRIME AT THE BORDER, EXPERT SAYS

“Designating all those organizations as foreign terrorist organizations, it makes things safer for us and puts them on the defensive. We want to send a message that targeting Americans anywhere has legal consequences. I thank President Trump and [DHS] Secretary [Kristi] Noem for dedicating their lives to protecting others and for being good stewards of the American taxpayers’ dollars, efforts and resources.”

Quets’ mother says in the video, “I want to thank everybody for putting this together and giving us a voice.”

In a press release, DHS outlined the ways it has “taken decisive action to dismantle drug cartels,” including the president signing an executive order on his first day in office to “designate drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations,” giving law enforcement the ability to “crack down” on sex trafficking operations from the cartels in the United States.

SINALOA CARTEL LEADERS CHARGED WITH NARCO-TERRORISM AFTER AUTHORITIES SEIZE 1.65 TONS OF FENTANYL

Additionally, on what would have been Quets’ 32nd birthday, the Treasury Department announced sanctions on six individuals and seven entities that were allegedly operating a money-laundering scheme that supported the Sinaloa Cartel.

“Nicholas Quets was a patriot who served our country honorably and was killed by these cartel cowards who shot him in the back. President Trump and Secretary Noem are honoring his memory by dismantling the Sinaloa cartel and other drug cartels that profit from trafficking, violence, and lawlessness,” Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

“President Trump’s strong leadership and these arrests and prosecutions of scum-of-the-earth cartel leaders are delivering results. The days of unchecked cartel violence are over.”

In an interview with Fox News Digital leading up to the presidential election, Quets’ father said, “I do believe in Donald Trump as a man of his word – not the TV character, not the billionaire – but a person who I looked at face to face and talked with.”

“America got a little bit weaker. My family was destroyed, but America got a little bit weaker. Mexico got a little bit weaker. Those cartels got a little bit stronger. And the only way to reverse that is to go after these people.”

Republicans roast Schumer over grilling disaster in new campaign video

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is revisiting a much-maligned year-old photo from Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.

The NRSC, which is the campaign arm of the Senate GOP, marked National Hamburger Day on Wednesday with a new video titled, “We Grill Right,” which spotlights Schumer’s viral social media post from last year’s Father’s Day.

In the photo that appeared in the 2024 post, Schumer appeared to place a slice of cheese on an uncooked burger patty.

ONLY ON FOX NEWS: SENATE REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN CHAIR REVEALS HOW MANY SEATS HE’S AIMING FOR IN 2026

“Our family has lived in an apartment building for all our years, but my daughter and her wife just bought a house with a backyard and for the first time we’re having a barbeque with hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill!” Schumer wrote in his post.

Schumer was quickly grilled on X, formerly Twitter, by a chorus of conservatives who pilloried his cooking skills, and the longtime senator soon deleted the post. He was also called out by late-night host Stephen Colbert.

DEMOCRATS’ NEW SENATE CAMPAIGN CHAIR REVEALS KEYS TO WINNING BACK MAJORITY IN 2026

Fast-forward a year and the NRSC, in their video maligning Schumer, urged voters to “join a real party, the Republican Party. We grill right.”

The NRSC was also selling related merchandise on its website, including beer koozies that read, “I grill like I vote. Right.”

The NRSC also used their email release to also highlight recent reports, confirmed by Fox News, that some Democratic strategists and consultants were spending millions of dollars to better communicate with male and working-class voters, whom the party has struggled to court in recent election cycles.

DEMOCRATS’ STRATEGY SESSION TO BETTER COMMUNICATE WITH MALE VOTERS RIDICULED

“Shouldn’t take much to know how to grill a burger or correctly call a pick six, but apparently for Democrats, figuring out how to be a normal American takes at least $20 million — and even that won’t be enough,” NRSC regional press secretary Nick Puglia claimed in a statement.

Republicans currently control the Senate with a 53-47 majority. The GOP aims to expand their majority in next year’s midterm elections.

Fox News reached out to the rival Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for a response to the new attack by the NRSC, but the DSCC had yet to take a bite at the time this report was posted.

ESPN basketball analyst Chiney Ogwumike apologized for remarks she made at the start of the WNBA’s investigation into alleged hateful remarks toward Chicago Sky players during a game against the Indiana Fever.

Ogwumike said on “Get Up” two days after the alleged incident that “if you’re truly a basketball fan, you would understand and agree that we have no space for those types of comments.”

While The Associated Press reported that the WNBA was investigating alleged racial slurs toward Angel Reese, the league said Tuesday it was unable to substantiate those claims.

Ogwumike addressed her previous comments about the situation.

“I want to address this with the same energy I did the first time because if you really know me, I always try my absolute best to uplift the WNBA, to celebrate the amazing players, coaches and, of course, the fans,” she said. “That is something at the core of everything that I do. But if you know me, you know I’m not afraid to say I can do better.

“I’m sorry my message was in the heat of the moment because when I initially spoke on the topic, it really came from a place of care. It was based on firsthand conversations with people very close to the situation who raised real concerns and told me what they had experienced. I felt like it was important and was necessary to acknowledge those allegations and also voice those experiences.

“Now in the process, however, I totally recognize it may have impacted fans in a way that I did not intend. I’m sorry.”

Ogwumike added that she was happy the league took the investigation seriously. She said as the league continues to grow, she will “grow with it.”

Tragic accident in Florida leaves mom dead, three children injured

A Florida mother was killed and her three young children were injured in a car accident on Interstate 95 on Memorial Day after a truck experienced a tire blowout and collided with their van.

Olivia Maggs, 32, was driving in the southbound lanes of I-95 by the Pineda Causeway in Brevard County on Monday afternoon when a tire blew out on an F-350, according to FOX 35 Orlando via Florida Highway Patrol.

The blowout caused the driver of the truck, which was traveling in the center lane, to lose control and collide with Maggs’ Honda Odyssey van, the outlet reported. Both vehicles went off the road and struck a guardrail.

Maggs was pronounced dead at the scene, while her three children – an infant girl and two toddler boys – were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, according to a GoFundMe set up by Maggs’ sister-in-law.

“By the grace of God, kind strangers stopped to help and pulled the children from the vehicle,” she wrote, adding that the baby girl had a broken femur and a brain bleed. The two boys were also hurt, but “they are okay,” she said.

The 58-year-old truck driver and his 20-year-old passenger were not injured and remained at the scene of the crash, FOX 35 reported.

Maggs was a “dedicated” and “beloved” nurse at Parrish Medical Center, the health system wrote on Facebook in a post mourning her death. She worked at the hospital for nine years and began in the Medical-Surgical Department as a graduate nurse before transferring to the Women’s Center.

“Olivia’s kindness, strength and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on her patients, fellow Care Partners and everyone fortunate enough to know her. Our hearts are with her family, friends and children during this unimaginable time. We are grieving alongside them and will forever carry her memory in our hearts,” the post stated.

Hundreds of comments were left on the post, with dozens of women sharing their positive experiences with Maggs as a nurse and as a friend.

“You never forget the name and face of someone who made such a lasting impression on you. For all three of my children’s births at Parrish Olivia was one of the most encouraging and supportive nurses. She guided me through strapping my firstborn in his car seat as we had never done it before and I was so anxious. My heart is with her family and all who mourn her,” one woman wrote.

Blagojevich says Democrats have ‘Hall of Fame for liars’ led by CA senator

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich lambasted his Democratic Party as an unethical organization that collectively bolstered a “coma” patient over other contenders in order to advance their own political ends, and that they feature a “Hall of Fame for Liars” headlined by Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

Asked by Fox News’ Jesse Watters about his response to characterizations that Democrats preferred to cover-up former President Joe Biden’s infirmities rather than move on from him or accept President Donald Trump, Blagojevich said, “I’d say that guy hates the American people and hates his constituents and hates even Democratic voters.”

“Shouldn’t we all wish good things for our country? Isn’t it right to hope that a president, even the one from the other party, can succeed to do good things for his country and good things for people?”

Blagojevich said that proves Democrats “don’t care about America,” and quoted Tennessee Williams’ line that “the only thing worse than a liar is a liar that’s also a hypocrite.”

ADAM SCHIFF TELLS EPA’S ZELDIN HE’LL CAUSE CANCER, AFTER SHELDON WHITEHOUSE SHOUTFEST

“If they have any sense of patriotism… they ought to try to … atone for their sins…”

Blagojevich said Democrats could have used the 25th Amendment to oust Biden and keep a Democrat in the White House; then-Vice President Kamala Harris; but instead believed, “maybe we’re better off with a brain-dead Biden as president than her.”

“They’d rather have a comatose Biden than Kamala Harris,” Watters quipped in return.

Blagojevich added that by contrast, Trump has been lied about in regard to Russian collusion and the Stormy Daniels affair, and that it should be Democrats considered the bigger mistruth-tellers.

“Nobody who has any common sense could believe anything they say,” he said.

“And the king of the Democratic liars is Adam Schiff. If there was a Hall of Fame for liars, like, let’s say, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Adam Schiff would be Elvis.”

Blagojevich, imprisoned following his 2008 ejection from office by the Illinois State Senate on claims he tried to “sell” then-Sen. Barack Obama’s seat, saw his federal sentence commuted by Trump after eight years served.

The former governor has long maintained his innocence – previously telling Fox News he never tried to sell what became then-Sen. Roland Burris’, D-Ill., seat, and instead was a victim of malicious prosecution grounded in politics over proof.

He has compared his prosecution to Trump’s own legal issues, as both men alleged politicized proceedings from U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and New York State Attorney General Letitia James, respectively.

“I know what they did to me, and I do know they did the same thing to Trump,” he told FOX-32 in February.

Skittles quietly removes controversial food additive amid MAHA report

A candy company has removed an ingredient from its popular and colorful rainbow candies.

Skittles, owned by Mars Wrigley, will no longer be made with titanium dioxide.

A spokesperson for Mars Wrigley, which is based in New Jersey, confirmed to Fox News Digital this week that the company has removed titanium dioxide from its Skittles portfolio in the United States.

EVERYTHING TO KNOW ABOUT MAHA

Titanium dioxide is an additive typically used to make food look whiter and opaque.

The Make America Healthy Again Commission, chaired by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., released a report last Thursday assessing chronic diseases, particularly those suffered by children.

The report listed additives of potential concern, including titanium dioxide.

It said the additive is “widely used in a range of candies and sauces [and] may cause cellular and DNA damage.”

“Our commitment to quality is what has enabled Mars to be enjoyed by consumers for over a century, and nothing is more important than the safety of our products,” the Mars Wrigley spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“All our products are safe to enjoy and meet the high standards and applicable regulations set by food safety authorities around the world, and that’s something we will never compromise on.”

There are 4,362 candies containing titanium dioxide, according to a search of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) FoodData Central website.

The European Union banned the additive in 2022 following a report by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) which pointed to genotoxicity.

“Genotoxicity refers to the ability of a chemical substance to damage DNA, the genetic material of cells,” the EFSA report noted.

Emma Heming Willis reveals ‘hollow goodbye’ after Bruce’s dementia diagnosis

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Emma Heming Willis‘ life was forever changed the moment her beloved husband, Bruce Willis, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2022.

While speaking at the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement Forum in Las Vegas on Monday, the mom of two opened up about the isolating moment that inspired her upcoming book, “The Unexpected Journey.”

“On the day Bruce got his diagnosis, we left the doctor’s office with a pamphlet and a hollow goodbye. No plan, no guidance, no hope, just shock,” she told the crowd during the forum, per People.

BRUCE WILLIS’ DAUGHTER GIVES GLIMPSE INTO ACTOR’S BIRTHDAY PLANS WITH ‘IRONCLAD’ FAMILY AS HE BATTLES DEMENTIA

“The future we imagined simply vanished, and I was left trying to hold my family together, raise our two young daughters, and care for the man I love while navigating a disease I barely understood.”

In March 2022, it was announced that Willis would be “stepping away” from his acting career due to an aphasia diagnosis. It was later announced that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

“I felt lost, isolated and scared,” Heming Willis, who was being honored for her advocacy for caregiving, said. “What I needed in that moment at that appointment wasn’t just medical information. I needed someone to look me in the eye and say, ‘This feels impossible right now, but you will find your footing. You will survive this and you will grow because of it.'”

The author will release her book this September.

“The book is the roadmap I wish someone had handed me on the day in 2022,” she said. “I wrote it for other caregivers who are desperate for answers, aching for support, and wanting to be seen and wondering how they’re going to make it through.”

“I’ve had access to world-class experts because of who Bruce is, and I know that’s a privilege, so I didn’t want to keep that information to myself… I have a megaphone and resources that others don’t.”

In April, Heming Willis – who shares daughters Mabel Ray Willis, 13, and Evelyn Penn Willis, 11 – unveiled the cover of her book on social media and gave followers a glimpse of what life has been like since her husband’s diagnosis.

“Born from grief, shaped by love, and guided by purpose, this is the book I needed back when Bruce was first diagnosed, and I was frozen with fear and uncertainty,” she penned on Instagram about the book.

“This is the book I trust will help the next caregiver. It is filled with support, insight, and the hope needed to navigate this journey.”

The author shared a sweet black-and-white photograph of her and Bruce on the book cover, as she longingly looked at her husband with all smiles.

“I wrote the book I wish someone had placed in my hands the day we got the diagnosis,” her second photo on Instagram read.

“This book is for all of us finding our way through the unknown with love, grit, and courage. You are not alone.”

During the forum, Heming Willis also stressed the importance of caring for caretakers.

“We should be talking about this so much more because at some point, we will be caring for someone that we love, or we might need care ourselves. So this is a really important conversation that hopefully, one day, the government will take seriously.”

Some say ‘Ozempic teeth’ may be side effect of weight-loss medications

Despite their widely touted benefits — primarily weight loss and diabetes control, among others — GLP-1 medications have also been linked to some unwelcome side effects.

In addition to the main complaints of gastrointestinal issues, some lesser-known side effects have emerged, including mood changes, hair loss and “Ozempic face.”

Now, there are rumblings on social media from patients and doctors suggesting that weight-loss drugs could be linked to tooth decay and gum issues like irritation and bleeding.

WEIGHT-LOSS, DIABETES DRUGS LINKED TO VISION PROBLEMS IN SMALL STUDY

What is ‘Ozempic teeth?’

Ozempic teeth, much like Ozempic face, is a term coined online to describe a characteristic that some believe could be related to their use of weight-loss and diabetes drugs.

The characteristic in question is an increase in dental problems when using GLP-1s, although there is not yet any scientific evidence that the two are linked.

Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting and acid reflux are all widely reported side effects of Ozempic and other weight-loss drugs.

OZEMPIC’S HEALTH BENEFITS KEEP GROWING, BUT ARE THE RISKS WORTH IT?

“Patients have reported dry mouth while on Ozempic in both dental practices I work in,” Dr. Ricky Marshall, owner of Stratland Dental in Glendale, Arizona, and dentist at Wolff Family Dentistry & Orthodontics in Queen Creek, Arizona, told Fox News Digital.

While Ozempic itself may not be triggering the increased tooth decay, side effects like dry mouth are “likely the main cause” of some of the dental problems people are experiencing, according to Marshall.

Additionally, he noted, Ozempic is reported to increase stomach acid because the medication works by slowing down digestion.

WEIGHT-LOSS DRUGS’ IMPACT ON CANCER RISK REVEALED IN NEW STUDY

When increased stomach acid leads to acid reflux, heartburn or vomiting, the acid’s contact with the teeth “will absolutely contribute” to increased decay, Marshall said.

Dr. Whitney White of Aspen Dental in Las Vegas said she hasn’t personally seen any patients experiencing oral health issues linked to GLP-1s.

“I do encourage all of my patients to be open about what medications they are taking, as they can contribute to issues like dry mouth,” she told Fox News Digital.

“Dry mouth leads to plaque buildup, which in turn leads to cavities and sensitivity.”

Treating side effects

Antacids are one solution to acid reflux, according to Cleveland Clinic.

These over-the-counter medicines neutralize stomach acid so that when reflux happens, it isn’t as corrosive to the esophagus.

Although these medications can be effective for occasional acid reflux, Cleveland Clinic warned that they can have side effects if taken too often, so they likely “aren’t a good long-term solution.”

To alleviate dry mouth, the above source recommends chewing sugarless gum to promote saliva production and drinking plenty of water, among other remedies.

The clinic also recommends that individuals “take medications that cause dry mouth in the morning, not at night,” because dry mouth at night is more likely to cause cavities and other dental issues.

Fox News Digital reached out to Novo Nordisk (maker of Ozempic and Wegovy) and Eli Lilly (maker of Mounjaro and Zepbound) for comment. Neither company includes mention of dental-related side effects in the drugs’ prescribing information.

Sheriff’s crime scene failure could hinder prosecution against escaped inmates

The failure by law enforcement officials to immediately process the jail cell from which 10 inmates escaped on May 16 as a crime scene could jeopardize potential prosecutions of the inmates, an expert said.

“One of the first things any prosecutor looks for is basic crime scene documentation: photos, evidence logs, and signs that law enforcement treated the scene seriously,” Jason Pack, a former FBI supervisory special agent, told Fox News Digital. “Even if the facts seem clear-cut, skipping those steps opens the door for defense attorneys to argue the investigation was incomplete or sloppy.”

On Thursday, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams made what he called a “very unusual” move.

Noting that Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson had not ordered a crime scene investigation inside the jail cell, he assembled a team of New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) crime scene technicians and personally accompanied them to the jail to collect evidence.

NEW ORLEANS DISTRICT ATTORNEY BLASTS SHERIFF OVER BOTCHED PRISON ESCAPE INVESTIGATION

“Time is also of the essence when trying to get good DNA samples or collect fingerprints to make sure those areas are not molested or destroyed in any way,” he told the media at the time. “So I am deeply concerned that there was not an immediate request by the sheriff to our local crime lab to get in there and examine, document, preserve and collect all of the forensic evidence that was available there so that we could already have it tested.”

Pack said that the delayed collection of evidence could help defense attorneys muddy the waters, and that Williams is likely tying up loose ends to make his potential cases as bulletproof as possible.

“Now that someone from inside the jail has been charged with helping the escape, the district attorney was likely thinking like a prosecutor from the start,” he said. “He would have been focused on how the case will look in court and what a judge or jury will expect to see.”

FORMER NEW ORLEANS POLICE CHIEF CRITICIZES SHERIFF’S ‘CHECKERED PAST’ AFTER JAILBREAK

Sterling Williams, 33, an employee of the sheriff’s office and a maintenance worker at the jail, has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of principal to simple escape and malfeasance in office for allegedly aiding the inmates in their jailbreak.

He is accused of turning off the water in the cell from which the inmates escaped, allowing them to remove a toilet that blocked a hole they had cut into the cell’s wall.

Once the toilet was removed, they climbed through the hole, ran through an unguarded corridor, and then made a beeline for the jail’s fence, hopping over it and onto the streets of New Orleans

Williams told investigators the inmates threatened to “shank” him if he did not help them.

“For legal purposes, especially when a criminal charge has already been filed, the pod where the escape happened still needs to be treated like a crime scene,” Pack said.

However, he noted that the crime scene is a hectic area. The jail has 1,400 inmates, and countless inmates and staff could have contaminated the crime scene by now.

“It’s also important to remember that a jail pod isn’t a clean crime scene. It’s a busy place: guards, inmates, maintenance workers,” Pack said. “A lot of people have access.”

According to Pack, the fingerprint and DNA evidence might not yield a clear-cut answer as to who might have committed a crime. Instead, he said, the value in collecting that evidence is to show in court that “every reasonable step was taken” in the investigation.

LOUISIANA GOVERNOR BLASTS ‘PROGRESSIVE PROMISES’ AFTER NEW ORLEANS JAIL ESCAPE

Williams said after collecting evidence from the scene that he had asked all OPSO employees and other relevant parties to voluntarily submit to fingerprinting in order to rule them out as suspects. He also demanded that surveillance footage from 90 cameras in the jail from April 1 through May 21 be handed over to his office.

“Even when video shows how the escape happened, crime scene photos and records help prove that the case was handled professionally and by the book,” Pack said.

The May 16 early morning escape included a convicted four-time killer, along with nine others facing violent criminal charges stemming from second-degree murder to domestic abuse and felon in possession of a firearm.

They taunted the authorities on the way out, writing “To easy LOL,” along with other messages on the wall of the cell. Authorities were unaware that the men were missing for about eight hours after the escape.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office did not respond to a request for comment.

DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS DEMAND LOUISIANA SHERIFF RESIGN AFTER 10 INMATES ESCAPE JAIL

Two hundred local, state and federal law enforcement officers have been involved in a manhunt for the suspects.

As of Tuesday, eight of the suspects have been recaptured, and 14 people have been arrested for aiding them.

Along with Williams, an inmate who did not escape with the group of 10 became the second person from inside the jail to be charged with helping them escape.

Trevon Williams, 23, has been rebooked on 10 counts of principal to simple escape for allegedly giving the escapees a blanket and shirt to help them hop the razor-wire fence during their escape.

Arrests over the weekend included 28-year-old Lenika Vanburen, 18-year-old Patricia Vanburen, 27-year-old Tyshanea “Minnie” Randolph, 47-year-old Lenton Vanburen Sr. and 40-year-old Angel McKey – all accused of aiding the escapees. Lenton Vanburen Sr. is the father of escapee Lenton Vanburen, who has since been caught, a source confirmed to Fox News.

State police said that Diamond White, 21, was also arrested on charges that include principal to aggravated escape and obstruction of justice, USA Today reported.

Emmitt Weber, 28, was also arrested for allegedly helping two of the inmates after the escape. So was Casey Smith, 30, who reportedly admitted to driving some of the inmates around New Orleans after they escaped.

On Thursday night, the Louisiana State Police announced that it had arrested Connie Weeden, 59, who allegedly sent cash to then-fugitive Jermaine Donald via a cellphone app.

Before that, Cortnie Harris, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, were arrested for allegedly assisting the fugitives.

Harris is accused of transporting some of the escapees to locations throughout New Orleans after the escape, and Baptiste is accused of being in contact with escapee Corey Boyd and bringing him food after the escape.

Sources close to the investigation told Fox News that Baptiste is the girlfriend of now-recaptured Boyd, who is accused of second-degree murder, and Harris is the girlfriend of Leo Tate, who is still on the run.

On Monday, three more inmates were recaptured.

Vanburen was caught in Baton Rouge, and Tate and Donald were captured by the Texas Department of Public Safety in Walker, Texas, according to the Louisiana State Police.
