Musk and Rogan fact-check Bono’s claim of deaths from Trump aid cuts

U2 frontman and longtime global activist Bono took a swing at the Trump administration disbanding the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)) on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, blaming the cuts for a staggering 300,000 deaths.

And he was swiftly fact-checked by Rogan and Elon Musk in a takedown that lit up social media.

“This will f— you off,” Bono warned, claiming tens of thousands of tons of food are “rotting” in warehouses from Djibouti to Houston because of recent USAID cuts, and that the people who ran those warehouses have been fired.

“What is that? That’s not America, is it?”

I AM A USAID WHISTLEBLOWER. I’VE GOT TO ADMIT, MUSK IS MOSTLY RIGHT ABOUT AGENCY’S WASTE

Rogan wasn’t having it.

“They’re throwing the baby out with the bathwater,” he said, acknowledging that while some aid groups do good work, the USAID system has been riddled with corruption.

“For sure, it was a money laundering operation. For sure, there was no oversight. … Trillions that are unaccounted for.”

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CUTTING 90% OF USAID FOREIGN AID CONTRACTS, DOCUMENTS SHOW

Reacting on X to a clip of the conversation, Elon Musk slammed Bono directly.

“He’s such a liar/idiot,” Musk wrote.

Musk, who has championed sharp cuts to what he sees as a bloated foreign aid machine, pushed for major USAID reforms under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) before his formal departure this week.

His response ignited debate online, with conservatives cheering for overdue accountability.

Popular online commentator “Catturd” posted that “I agree 100% with Elon Musk that Bono is an idiot and a liar.”

One commentator also wrote, “They’ve made this 300,000 number up and propagandized people with it.”

Another eagle-eyed X user posted, “Bono starts off by saying, ‘It’s not proven.’ So he’s lying.”

Bono’s 300,000 figure comes not from confirmed deaths, but from a speculative model built by Brooke Nichols, a mathematical health modeler at Boston University, projecting what could happen as a result of the cuts.

Nichols has said that the number is a projection, not a direct count, due to the absence of real-time tracking in many affected regions.

“The biggest uncertainties in all of these estimates are: 1) the extent to which countries and organizations have pivoted to mitigate this disaster (likely highly variable),” she wrote in The Washington Post. “And 2) which programs are actually still funded with funding actually flowing — and which aren’t.”

Celebrities continue to be name-dropped during explosive testimony in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial.

Whitney Houston, Mike Myers and Mariah Carey are a few A-list stars who came up during testimony in the third week of Diddy’s sex trafficking and racketeering trial.

The testimony in the 55-year-old music producer’s trial began May 12. The disgraced music mogul appeared in court to sit through testimony from another alleged victim, “Mia,” his former assistant Capricorn Clark and celebrity stylist Deonte Nash.

DIDDY KEY WITNESSES COULD HURT PROSECUTION’S CASE DESPITE EXPLOSIVE TESTIMONY: EXPERT

Here’s a look at the celebrities mentioned in court this week.

Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey

Diddy’s former executive assistant, Capricorn Clark, mentioned both Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey during her testimony in the sex trafficking trial.

Clark claimed she thought Cassie was talented but was more of a studio artist.

“Why do you think she just had talent as opposed to being very talented?” Diddy’s lawyer asked the ex-assistant.

“Um, talented to me is Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey,” Clark said. “Very talented is that level of performer, entertainer. Cassie was more of a studio artist.”

Clark described a studio artist as “a little bit more comfortable in the vocal booth to have a little bit of things equalized for you and, you know, engineered properly. Less of a live performer.”

DIDDY EX-ASSISTANT DELIVERS ‘MOST EXPLOSIVE’ TESTIMONY YET IN RAPPER’S FEDERAL TRIAL: EXPERT

Mike Myers

Diddy’s alleged victim, who has been allowed to testify under the pseudonym “Mia,” testified she previously worked for Mike Myers.

“What did you do for Mike Myers?” the prosecution asked in court.

“I was his personal assistant,” Mia replied.

Myers was also a celebrity name mentioned during jury questioning ahead of the trial. Myers’ “Austin Powers” features a joke about the disgraced rapper.

Georgina Chapman

Prior to working with Mike Meyers, “Mia,” the alleged victim who worked for Diddy from 2009 until 2017, also worked as a personal assistant for fashion designer Georgina Chapman.

“Who were Georgina’s Chapman’s clients?” the prosecution asked during direct examination.

Mia answered, “It was all like red-carpet celebrity dressing.”

Chapman was previously married to Harvey Weinstein, who is facing a rape retrial in New York, from 2007 until 2021. Chapman filed for divorce in 2017 after multiple women came forward accusing Weinstein of sexual misconduct.

Chapman is the co-founder of the fashion brand Marchesa and has been dating actor Adrien Brody since 2020.

Nas and Kelis

Musicians Nas and Kelis were mentioned during Diddy’s ex-assistant’s testimony. Capricorn Clark claimed Diddy took her to Central Park and threatened to kill her after he learned she had previously worked for Suge Knight.

“Did you ever walk in Central Park other than that one time with Mr. Combs?” Diddy’s defense asked during the cross-examination.

“Earlier that day,” she said. “We, he was giving me the run of the, you know, run of show, what the job would be like. And we walked from the east side of the park to the west side of the park, and we ran into Nas and Kelis in the middle of the park.”

French Montana

Diddy’s former stylist, Deonte Nash, mentioned rapper French Montana during his cross-examination.

When asked who was signed by Bad Boy Records while he worked for Diddy, Nash replied, “Um French Montana.”

“Wait. French Montana, the hip-hop person, rap star?” Diddy’s defense lawyer asked.

“Yes. I mean, and Puff. That’s all I can really remember right now,” Nash added.

Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa and Meek Mill

During celebrity stylist Deonte Nash’s cross-examination, he told the jury about a mixtape he helped Cassie Ventura produce in 2013, “RockaByeBaby.” Nash testified there was a team behind the mixtape. He confirmed that he did not get paid to work on the tape.

“No one got paid for the mixtape,” he said.

Nash testified that A-list rappers were on Cassie’s mixtape. Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Meek Mill and other well-known artists were featured, according to Diddy’s former stylist.

The celebrity stylist, who also worked with Cassie, told the jury Diddy threatened not to release the “Me & U” singer’s mixtape.

“He told her that one time if she keep — if she keeps having a smart-a – mouth, her little mixtape won’t be coming out,” Nash testified.

WNBA player who gave Caitlin Clark black eye gets security called on her during game

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Dallas Wings player DiJonai Carrington spoke out against referees for calling security on her in a social media post Friday.

During a heated altercation with officials during the Wings’ loss to the Chicago Sky Thursday, security guards approached as Carrington became increasingly demonstrative

One security guard even got between Carrington and an official. The official backed away from Carrington while pulling the security guard by his shirt in front of Carrington for protection.

Carrington responded to the incident in a post on X Friday, suggesting the summoning of security was a “microaggression.”

“Security… when I’m literally having a civil conversation is insane. Mind you, he called the “sEcUrItY” over there…” Carrington wrote over a clip of the incident with a misspelled “microaggression” hashtag.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the WNBA and the Sky for comment.

DIJONAI CARRINGTON, CAITLIN CLARK’S TEAMMATE APPEAR TO JOKE ABOUT INFAMOUS EYE-POKING INCIDENT

Former Dallas Wings player Cheryl Swoopes also spoke out against the referee who summoned security in a post on X.

“If this man was scared (of what, I don’t know) and needed security, he should NEVER be able to ref again! This can’t be real!” Swoopes wrote.

Carrington became a controversial figure in the WNBA last season.

As a member of Connecticut Sun in 2024, Carrington gave Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark a black eye after poking her during a game in the first round of the playoffs in September. Carrington laughed with teammate Marina Mabrey after the incident.

Carrington has said she didn’t intentionally poke Clark in the eye and that she wasn’t laughing about the incident. However, she appeared to make light of the controversy over Clark’s black eye in an Instagram Live video in October.

In the video, Carrington and her girlfriend, NaLyssa Smith, who plays for the Indiana Fever with Clark, were in their kitchen when Smith poked Carrington in the eye.

“Ow, you poked me in the eye,” Carrington said. Smith apologized, and the two laughed.

“Did you do it on purpose?” Carrington asked.

During the “Unrivaled” league season in January, Carrington wore a shirt that said, “The F— Donald Trump Tour” while walking into Wayfair Arena in Miami, Florida.

Then, during a press conference after another game that month, Carrington declared it was time for WNBA players to “take action” in response to President Donald Trump’s policies.

“We see that some of the policies are already going into action, and, of course, that means that as the WNBA and being at the forefront of a lot of these movements, it’s time for us to also take action,” Carrington said.

“It definitely needs to happen as women, women’s rights being taken away. Like, now, LGBTQ rights being taken away now. They haven’t happened yet, but definitely in the works.”

Freed after 36 years, man forgives murderer who confessed to wife’s slaying

Leo Schofield served 36 years in prison for his wife’s murder – and he forgave the man who confessed to the killing.

It was January 2025 when Schofield and his daughter Ashley were involved in a serious motorcycle accident. Schofield had been released on parole in April 2024 and had always maintained his innocence.

Gilbert King, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author who had been investigating Schofield’s case for his podcast, “Bone Valley,” visited Schofield after the crash. He received a call from Jeremy Scott, a convicted murderer who testified in 2017 that he had killed Michelle Schofield. He’s serving prison time for an unrelated crime.

FORMER MOB BOSS FINDS GOD IN PRISON, WALKS AWAY FROM ‘EVIL LIFESTYLE’: ‘MY FAITH IS ROCK SOLID’

Schofield agreed to speak with Scott. After some awkward small talk, King was stunned by what he heard.

“I was shocked by the fact that here I was with Leo, and Jeremy called me at the same time,” King recalled to Fox News Digital. “It was not planned, but I found it sincere. Jeremy Scott is … trying to come clean.

“When we spoke to him in 2021, he said it was torture for him, because as the years have gone by, he goes to bed seeing the faces of the people he’s killed,” said King. “He says, ‘That’s my punishment.’ And he said it’s gotten worse over the years living with this.”

Neither King nor Scott was prepared for what Schofield had to say. The conversation between the men can be heard in episode 6 of Season 2.

“Jeremy, I want to tell you something,” Schofield began. “And this is coming from a long time of prayer and a lot of thought. And I’m grateful for the opportunity to thank you for telling the truth. I want you to know that I forgive you with all my heart. You have a lot of people who care about you now because you did the right thing [in confessing]. It means a lot to me. And it means a lot to my family. I thank you for that. And I thank you with all my heart, bud.”

“… You gained a lot of respect from the people out here, because you were brave enough to tell the truth,” he shared. “It was a big deal, Jeremy. That was a really big deal, because it changed my life. And I definitely appreciate you for it.”

There was silence. Then Scott replied, “I just hated that this happened, bro.”

“I’m sorry that it happened,” Schofield replied. “… But now it’s your turn to start doing right. You hear me? You just keep doing your part.”

“Keep praying for me,” said Scott.

King told Fox News Digital that over the years, Schofield turned to God to cope with the loss of his beloved spouse and the struggle he faced in getting a new trial to prove his innocence.

“I think it began to just tear away at his soul,” King explained.

“He was just consumed by this anger, bitterness and confusion. Leo said, ‘… This was going to destroy me, and I had to rely on my faith in God to carry me through this. The only way I could stop this anger and bitterness was to let it go and find some way to forgive Jeremy.'”

During his time behind bars, Schofield became “a spiritual person.” He found solace as a pastor in prison.

“He just said, ‘I hope that it’s my prayer to God that Jeremy finally finds love because I am supported out here,’” said King. “’I have a loving family and friends who believe in me. Jeremy has nothing.’”

“I think it’s a testimony to who Leo is as a person,” King added.

On February 24, 1987, Michelle had left her job at a restaurant in Lakeland, Florida. The 18-year-old called her husband of six months and said she would be home soon. They had been planning to go out together. Michelle was never seen alive again.

“A search went on for three days. All friends and family members were just searching for Michelle,” King explained. “On the second day of searching, they found her car, which was broken down on the side of the road just outside Lakeland, Florida.”

On February 27, Michelle’s body was found with 26 stab wounds in a drainage canal, The New York Times reported. According to the outlet, Schofield was charged with her murder, but there was never any physical evidence linking him to the crime. It was later proven that a set of fingerprints found in Michelle’s car didn’t belong to him.

“Leo had been out there searching,” said King. “He’d been constantly calling the police, showing up at the police station and asking whether they had found her. He filed a missing persons report. They didn’t really consider Leo a suspect right away. But … they started to build a case around him.”

“Some of the neighbors had said they’d seen Leo and Michelle fighting a few times,” King continued. “There was a neighbor who said she had seen Leo emerge from the house carrying something heavy, putting it into the back of his car and driving off. But the problem is that Leo was accounted for at that time. I think even the police didn’t really believe her. But … I think they had a really strong prosector and a very weak defense attorney.”

“That was Leo’s downfall,” King added.

During Schofield’s trial in 1989, the prosecution insisted that Schofield had been violent toward Michelle. Despite the lack of forensic evidence, Schofield was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

Scott lived less than two miles from where Michelle’s body was found.

“He was off the radar, but he shouldn’t have been,” said King. “… When they found those fingerprints in the car that didn’t match anybody like Leo or Michelle, they should have gone to known suspects in the area, and they never did that. These fingerprints remained mysterious for 17 years until they finally came back to Jeremy.”

Due to a lack of forensic technology at the time, the fingerprints couldn’t be matched until 2004. They belonged to Scott. King said that initially, Scott denied having anything to do with Michelle’s murder, claiming he had only stolen the stereo speakers from her car.

“Six years after he denied killing Michelle, he came out and wrote a letter to Leo’s lawyer, saying, ‘I’m the one that did this. You got the wrong guy in prison,’” said King. “That’s when he started talking about it in 2016.”

“He said to me, ‘That man never belonged in prison. I took his life away from him,’” said King. “He felt bad about that. … I think he’s one of those people who is trying to do something right with what little time he has left on Earth. He’s never going to be outside the prison walls.”

The New York Times reported that Scott had confessed to the murder “a number of times.”

“[Scott] spoke out before and nobody believed him,” said King. “They just beat him up on the stand and said he was a liar and unreliable. . . . I think that stayed with him. He’s thinking, ‘I’m trying to do the right thing here. I’m confessing to a murder.’ And the state instead just decided to attack his credibility.”

“But I reached out to him,” said King. “I said, ‘I’m willing to listen. I believe that you’re telling the truth.’ We spoke many times, and I’ve continued to stay in touch with him. He’s never wavered from what he’s told me. He’s never wavered from his confession.”

During his time in prison, Schofield immersed himself in faith. He mentored fellow inmates. He also found love again. He married Crissie Carter, a social worker he met while serving time, in 1995.

According to The New York Times, the state hasn’t moved forward on additional murder charges against Scott.

In a statement sent to Fox News Digital, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd wrote: “The jury found Leo Schofield guilty of murdering Michelle Schofield. Multiple courts have upheld that verdict.”

The outlet shared that Schofield is currently working to overturn his conviction. If denied, he could be on parole for another four to six years.

“Being on the outside, you’re reminded that you’re not free – that’s what Leo’s life is like,” said King. “… He was offered two deals that would’ve had him out of prison in the early ‘90s if he would’ve just taken them. He refused. He said, ‘It’s much easier for me to serve time than it is for me to admit something I didn’t do.’”

“Leo is trying to get that exoneration – that’s his life today,” said King. “Fortunately, there are some very powerful people in Florida who also believe him and are fighting for him, too. I have hope for him. I really think something is going to happen.”

Diet Coke linked to cardiovascular risks, experts warn: Here are healthier options

It may have zero calories and no added sugar, but experts say Diet Coke is not generally considered a healthy beverage.

Previous studies have linked diet soda in general to increased metabolic and cardiovascular risks, among other health effects.

“Research shows that drinking two or more artificially sweetened beverages per day may increase the risk of heart disease and stroke,” Michelle Routhenstein, a New York-based registered dietitian who specializes in heart disease, told Fox News Digital.

CELEBRITY CHEF GUY FIERI’S MESSAGE TO AMERICANS: LET’S ‘EAT BETTER’ TO LIVE BETTER

“Another study showed that just one diet soda increases the risk of Afib, an irregular heartbeat that increases the risk of vascular events, like stroke.

Some studies show this may be due to how artificial sweeteners are processed in the body and the metabolites they produce, Routhenstein said, while other research suggests that diet sodas may negatively change the balance of gut bacteria, which plays a role in chronic disease.

“Many of my clients who have ditched Diet Coke mention how they never realized how addictive it can be,” she added.

Tanya Freirich, a registered dietitian nutritionist in Charlotte, North Carolina, noted that Diet Coke contains artificial sweeteners that have been linked to weight gain and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

DRINKING CERTAIN TYPES OF COFFEE CAN BRING SOME HEALTH BENEFITS, BUT THE ADD-INS MATTER

“Aspartame, the artificial sweetener in Diet Coke, has been labeled as possibly carcinogenic by the World Health Organization and may negatively affect our gut microbiome,” she said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Many industry experts maintain that aspartame is still safe for consumption, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

VIRAL ‘MCMIGRAINE’ REMEDY HAS SOME RUSHING TO MCDONALD’S FOR HEADACHE RELIEF

In 2023, the FDA issued the below statement on its position on aspartame.

“Aspartame is one of the most studied food additives in the human food supply. FDA scientists do not have safety concerns when aspartame is used under the approved conditions,” the agency said. “The sweetener is approved in many countries. Regulatory and scientific authorities, such as Health Canada and the European Food Safety Authority have evaluated aspartame and also consider it safe at current permitted use levels.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Coca-Cola for comment.

Healthier alternatives to Diet Coke

Routhenstein recommends swapping diet soda for a more health-conscious choice.

“While it may be hard to find an exact alternative that meets the taste, carbonation and mouth feel, there are other healthier alternatives to consider,” she told Fox News Digital.

One of Routhenstein’s suggestions is low-sugar kombucha, a fermented tea that offers gut-promoting benefits.

Freirich echoed the benefits of kombucha as a source of probiotics, which are beneficial for gut health.

“You can also add a splash of lime or lemon to carbonated water, adding vitamin C for immune and heart health,” Routhenstein suggested.

Sparkling green tea is another option, as it offers carbonation while still providing anti-inflammatory benefits, according to the above source.

For those who prefer “bubbly” drinks, Freirich also recommends choosing unflavored seltzer water or lightly sweetened carbonated beverages.

“If you are interested in the caffeine of Diet Coke, I recommend replacing it with lightly sweetened tea or coffee,” she suggested.

“These are a great source of natural antioxidants and some caffeine. Green tea in particular is incredibly anti-inflammatory.”

The best option of all, however, is plain water, experts agree.

“Many of us could benefit from drinking a little more water in our day,” Freirich said. “Hydration is important for energy, good digestion and the health of our hair, skin and nails.”

Hugh Jackman’s longtime friend is sharing an update on how the actor is handling his divorce from his ex Deborra-Lee Furness and her recent statement about “betrayal” in their marriage of 30 years.

During a Thursday appearance on the Australian radio show “Ben Fordham Live,” Gus Warland, who said that he has been Jackman’s best friend since they attended kindergarten together in 1973, was asked about the emotional statement that Furness released after she officially filed for divorce from the 56-year-old “X-Men” star earlier this week.

In her statement, Furness spoke out about navigating the “breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage” and the “traumatic journey of betrayal,” adding that “it’s a profound wound that cuts deep.”

HUGH JACKMAN’S EX SPEAKS OUT ON ‘TRAUMATIC JOURNEY OF BETRAYAL’ AS SHE FILES FOR DIVORCE

The Australian actress’s divorce filing and comments came after the former couple announced their amicable separation after 27 years together in September 2023.

“It’s not just that statement, but just the last couple of years have been difficult,” Warland said.

“No one wants anyone to go through what they’ve been through, and, of course, they go through everything publicly because of the type of people and the fame that they have,” he continued.

Warland explained that he knows both Jackman and Furness well and they had named him godfather to their first child, Oscar, 25.  The Emmy Award winner and Furness are also parents to daughter Ava, 19.

“One thing that I’ve been really strict on, or disciplined on — not just for me but a whole lot of other mates that love them both — is to let them do what they’ve had to do,” Warland said.

The TV and radio personality shared that he had recently visited Jackman, who he refers to as “Jacko.”

“I was over in New York with Jacko just last month and he’s fine,” Warland said. “He is going along well. He’s moving on with his life and I hope that Deb does as well.”

“It’s a long, long time that they were together and they’ve got two beautiful kids together so I just go to the kids and go, what can we do to make sure that they’re going to get through this as well as possible.”

Furness officially filed for divorce from Jackman in New York on Tuesday.

According to People, Furness’ lawyer also submitted filings related to the duo’s settlement, health care coverage and medical child support. The former couple tied the knot in 1996, when Jackman was 27 and Furness was 40.

Per the filing, the couple’s divorce is uncontested and will only need a judge to sign off.

She subsequently released a statement to the Daily Mail in which she said, “My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal.”

‘It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us,” Furness continued. “This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage.”

“Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose. It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.”

Furness said her main take away from her divorce is “that none of this is personal.”

“We are all on our individual journeys and I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random. We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves…I remain grateful,” Furness concluded.

In January, Jackman and his former “Music Man” co-star Sutton Foster sparked romance rumors when they were spotted holding hands while going out to dinner in Los Angeles. Jackman played conman Harold Hill while Foster played his love interest Marian Paroo in the Broadway revival of the musical, which ran from February 2022 to January 2023.

Foster filed for divorce from her husband, Ted Griffin, in October after 10 years of marriage.

Jackman and Furness announced their separation in September 2023 and shared a joint statement with People at the time.

“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” they said. “Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”

Brushing wet hair can cause long-term damage, experts warn — what to do instead

For those with a hair care routine, a brush is an essential tool for daily upkeep — but brushing hair while it’s wet could cause more harm than good.

The common habit could permanently weaken hair at a “molecular level,” according to Dr. Mehmet Erdogan, co-founder and hair transplant surgeon at Smile Hair Clinic in Istanbul.

This could lead to increased breakage and thinning over time. A 2022 study from the University of Manchester reflected this, finding that moisture can change hair’s response to stress.

OZEMPIC, OTHER SEMAGLUTIDES LINKED TO HAIR LOSS: HERE’S WHAT TO KNOW

“When hair gets wet, it undergoes significant physical changes that can affect its ability to handle stress from brushing,” Erdogan said in comments shared with Fox News Digital.

“The water causes the hair shaft to swell, stretches the cuticle and makes it more susceptible to breakage.”

Although research has shown that wet hair stretches more than dry hair before breaking, Erdogan clarified that this doesn’t mean the hair is more flexible and resilient.

“The opposite is true – this stretching damages the internal protein structure, leading to weaker hair over time,” he warned.

“Wet hair is more fragile, and rough brushing can cause breakage.”

“The brush pulls on swollen, weakened strands, causing them to stretch beyond their capacity. As they dry, they don’t return to their original state and remain damaged at a structural level.”

MEN GOING BALD TURN TO ‘NEW BOTOX’ FOR HAIR LOSS TREATMENT

Ashley DiMatteo, owner of Ashley Lauren Beauty Lounge in Westchester, New York, told Fox News Digital in an interview that the salon has “definitely seen” damage from brushing wet hair.

“Wet hair is more fragile, and rough brushing can cause breakage,” she said. “But it’s rarely just one issue – hair loss or damage often comes from a combination of factors like stress, hormones, heat styling or chemical treatments.”

Brianna Delvecchio, a color specialist and hairdresser at DiMatteo’s salon, agreed that brushing wet hair can cause breakage, especially while doing so roughly or with the wrong tool.

Factors like stress, diet, hormones and overprocessing can also play a role in hair damage, she confirmed.

Those who have fine and chemically treated hair – whether colored, permed or relaxed – are “especially susceptible” to wet brushing damage, since their protein structure is “already altered,” Erdogan noted.

Tips to minimize hair damage

The risks don’t mean people should skip brushing altogether, Delvecchio said, as not brushing wet hair can sometimes result in a “knotted, matted mess.”

“Brushing is necessary — just do it gently and in the right way,” she advised.

With her salon clients, DiMatteo recommends taking a “gentle approach” to hair, protecting it from heat, avoiding rough brushing and limiting chemical services.

“We also take time to talk about scalp health, nutrition and lifestyle, because those all play a role,” she told Fox News Digital. “And most importantly, don’t ever feel embarrassed or shy to speak to your stylist or local salon. We’re here to help.”

HAIR GROWTH COULD SLOW DOWN WITH THIS POPULAR DIET PLAN, STUDY REVEALS

To lower the risk of hair damage, experts recommend using a wide-tooth comb or flexible detangling brush.

“The flexible bristles are great for detangling without too much tension,” Delvecchio said. “It’s a solid option for all hair types, as long as you’re still gentle and patient.”

The salon owner also suggested using a leave-in product to help soften and hydrate the hair, making it “much easier for the comb to glide through.”

“Technique matters, too – always start from the bottom and gently work your way up,” DiMatteo advised.

Adding heat to wet hair can “multiply the damage,” Erdogan warned.

For those with straight hair, it’s best to allow it to partially air-dry before combing, according to the hair transplant surgeon.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association also recommends this approach.

Delvecchio advised going “easy on your hair” overall, especially when it’s wet.

“Use heat protectant, lower the heat on your tools, avoid overlapping bleach and keep up with trims,” she suggested.

“Also, brush regularly (wet or dry) to prevent tangles and breakage,” she went on. “Hair is delicate, but with the right habits, it can stay strong and healthy.”

The biggest moves Elon Musk made as Trump’s chief cost-cutter

Elon Musk ended his tenure with the Trump administration on Wednesday night, thanking the president and vowing that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) would continue without him. The controversial agency, which was started by President Donald Trump and Musk, claims to have saved $175B through its cost-cutting efforts.

Although Musk left the White House disagreeing with Trump over the “big, beautiful bill,” he appeared to end his tenure on good terms with the president.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank [Trump] for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote in a post on X.

Workforce overhaul

Musk vowed to cut government spending and hit the ground running with a deferred resignation program, which offered government employees the option of resigning or returning to in-office work. Roughly 75,000 federal employees who accepted the deal will retain pay and benefits until Sept. 30.

As the administration faced backlash for the program, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that those who “don’t want to work in the office and contribute to making America great again, then they are free to choose a different line of work, and the Trump Administration will provide a very generous payout of 8 months.”

In his next big move, Musk began a controversial initiative that required all federal employees to send weekly emails detailing what they had accomplished. While workers were instructed not to share classified information, they were told to write “approximately five bullets” and CC their managers.

The email received further backlash, forcing Leavitt to defend this measure as well.

“This is to ensure that federal workers are not ripping off American taxpayers, that they are showing up to the office and that they are doing their jobs. And it’s a very simple task to complete.”

USAID cuts

DOGE once again found itself at the center of controversy when it targeted the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

USAID’s website went dark, and employees were barred from entering its headquarters on Feb. 3, while others had their work put on hold. The Trump administration then announced that all USAID direct-hire personnel would be put on administrative leave.

In early March, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that 83% of USAID programs would be canceled following the conclusion of DOGE’s six-week review.

The State Department later unveiled its plans to absorb the remaining USAID programs, breaking away from the agency’s history of acting independent of a federal department. This led to the cutting of more than 4,600 personnel, which included the 1,500 that had already been cut.

Ending DEI

Following Trump’s executive order to end government diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, DOGE announced the American people would save over $1 billion through the elimination of 104 DEI-related contracts. The canceled contracts were associated with USAID, the Department of Education, the FAA and the EPA, among others.

The elimination of these programs, which gained prominence after George Floyd’s death in 2020, sparked backlash as some argued that they were only meant to create equal opportunities.

On Tuesday, the Labor Department said it cut $400 million in spending through DOGE’s efforts to roll back DEI grants related to the American Rescue Plan Act. This was in addition to other cuts made to the Biden-era legislation, such as the creation of an “Office of the Unemployed Workers’ Advocate” and funding an “Equitable Access Director.”

Viral moments

Musk made several headlines during his tenure at DOGE. From his son, Æ A-12 — also known as “Lil X” — stealing the show in the Oval Office to a Tesla photo shoot with Trump at the White House and interviews with ‘Big Balls’ and the DOGE team, Musk has consistently been in the spotlight for months.

As Trump’s opponents routinely insisted that Musk was really running the show, the Tesla founder donned a “Tech Support” shirt during a cabinet meeting, insisting he was only part of the administration rather than its leader.
