The mother of a congressional intern who was killed in Washington, D.C., pleaded with police to find the people who killed her son, warning other parents it could happen to their kids.

Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a 21-year-old student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was shot June 30 at around 10:28 p.m., according to police, and passed away on July 1. The Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting happened on the 1200 block of 7th Street, Northwest.

A 16-year-old male and adult female were both shot but survived. No suspects are in custody, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

According to investigators, several individuals exited a vehicle and began firing shots at a group of people, which included Tarpinian-Jachym. Tarpinian-Jachym wasn’t the intended target of the shooting, they added.

FBI JOINS MANHUNT AFTER CONGRESSIONAL STUDENT INTERN SHOT DEAD IN DC

Tamara Jachym, Eric’s mother, told Fox News Digital in an interview that police need to arrest the individuals responsible because “they will do it again.”

“This is a serious crime. A mile from the White House. This isn’t a joke. And then it happened again this weekend,” Jachym said, referring to a shooting in Washington, D.C., on 4th of July weekend that left 3-year-old Honesty Cheadle dead. “You know, the mayor has to get serious with this.”

“I think Eric felt safe. It was early at night. He was in a decent area and this happened. And it’s a shame. And you know, Eric was the 85th victim and now we have an 86,” she added, referring to the number of homicides in Washington, D.C., at the time.

So far in 2025, 91 people have been killed in Washington, D.C.

Jachym described her son as a “very kind, sweet, compassionate young man.”

“He was kind to everybody. He loved the animals. He loved to fish,” she said. “He was just a really special boy. He really loved DC, loved to walk around the streets. He loved to walk to the Wharf and he liked to go out to eat. And he loved the people in D.C.”

The University of Massachusetts Amherst student was an intern for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., according to a statement from his office. He was set to return for his senior year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he majored in finance and minored in political science.

“I will remember his kind heart and how he always greeted anyone who entered our office with a cheerful smile,” Estes said in a statement. “We are grateful to Eric for his service to Kansas’ 4th District and the country. Please join Susan and me in praying for his family and respecting their privacy during this heartbreaking time.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, an FBI spokesperson said the agency is assisting the Metropolitan Police Department in the investigation.

A top advisor to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has left the Pentagon after six months of service, the Department of Defense (DoD) confirmed to Fox News Digital on Saturday.

Justin Fulcher told Fox News Digital he formally resigned on Thursday evening, describing the decision as entirely his own.

Fulcher said he had originally planned to serve six months in government and, having reached that point, chose to move on “amicably.” He also emphasized what he described as the “great work” being done by Hegseth “for our troops and country.”

“The Department of Defense is grateful to Justin Fulcher for his work on behalf of President [Donald] Trump and Secretary Hegseth. We wish him well in his future endeavors,” chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement.

HEGSETH VOWS TO RESTORE WARRIOR MENTALITY AND RAISE STANDARDS IN SWEEPING MILITARY TRANSFORMATION

In addition to advising Hegseth on personnel and policy, Fulcher played a role in several defense initiatives during his tenure, he told Fox News Digital.

Fulcher said he contributed to reviews of major acquisition programs aimed at strengthening lethality and the U.S. industrial base, and helped streamline software procurement timelines “from years to months,” modernizing key IT systems across the department.

He also said he supported Hegseth in high-level meetings across the Indo-Pacific, including the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, and participated in efforts that redirected nearly $50 billion from non-lethal line items into readiness and more impactful defense programs.

Fulcher praised the “dedicated men and women of the Department of Defense,” cited progress in “revitalizing the warrior ethos” and “rebuilding the military,” and thanked both Hegseth and Trump for their leadership. “Still, this is just the beginning,” Fulcher added.

Fulcher, who had served as a senior advisor to Hegseth since April, announced his departure Saturday afternoon in a message posted to X

“As planned, I’ve completed 6 months of service in government to my country,” he wrote, calling the experience “incredibly inspiring.”

WALTZ DOUBLES DOWN ON HEGSETH PRAISE AMID ONGOING PENTAGON CONTROVERSY

“None of this could have happened without Secretary Hegseth’s decisive leadership or President Trump’s continued confidence in our team,” he wrote. “I will continue to champion American warfighters in all future endeavors.”

Fulcher joined the DoD earlier this year as part of Hegseth’s inner circle, a cohort of loyal advisers appointed after Hegseth took the helm at the Pentagon in Trump’s second term.

His departure comes amid a broader reshuffling of senior personnel inside Hegseth’s office. At least six aides have left since January, though defense officials have downplayed the moves as standard transitions.

It’s unclear what Fulcher’s next step will be, though his statement suggests he intends to remain active in national security circles.

The Pentagon has not yet named a replacement.

When Christie Brinkley found out that her husband was having an affair, it “nearly broke her.”

The veteran Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model is on the cover of Social Life Magazine in celebration of her memoir, “Uptown Girl,” which came out earlier this year. The 71-year-old spoke to the outlet about what it was like sharing her story, both the highs and lows.

“There were parts where I thought, ‘Please don’t cry,’” said Brinkley when it came to reading her story out loud for the audiobook.

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY ADMITS LEAVING BILLY JOEL WASN’T EASY, SAYS ‘BOOZE WAS THE OTHER WOMAN’

“I tried to keep [my voice] level, but [the publisher] let me be. Let my voice crack. Let it show.”

One of the moments Brinkley described in the book was discovering how her fourth husband, architect Peter Cook, was unfaithful after eight years of marriage.

According to the outlet, Brinkley was at a graduation ceremony in 2006 to give a commencement speech. She described how a man approached her with a revelation that had the “weight of a wrecking ball, delivered in barely a whisper.”

“I asked him to repeat it,” she recalled before turning to look at Cook.

“And then I looked at Jack,” she said about her son. “Jack’s face was frozen in panic. He felt it instantly. He knew something was very wrong.”

According to Brinkley, she looked out into the crowd. She saw “mouths agape,” reminding her of “The Scream” oil painting.

“They all knew,” the outlet shared. “Maybe some judged. Maybe some didn’t. But in that suspended moment, she felt faint, exposed… like the floor might drop beneath her.”

Brinkley said she asked the man if he had a card.

“No,” he said. “But I’m a cop at the Southampton station.”

After the ceremony, Jack rushed over to his mother and asked what was wrong. She told him, “Mommy needs to go to the police station.” There, she would get more information about how her marriage was unraveling.

Brinkley told the outlet that she didn’t know what readers would expect from her book.

“I had thought this book might sit on shelves,” she admitted. “I worried it would embarrass my kids. But people bought it. They loved it. I cried.”

In her book, Brinkley describes how the police officer who made the revelation was the father of the 18-year-old Cook was involved with.

“I know from Peter’s face that he was guilty,” Brinkley wrote. “When your whole world falls apart, and you realize in a heartbeat you’ve suddenly become the cliché middle-aged woman whose husband is having an affair with a much (much) younger woman, what do you do?”

That night, Cook was out of the house. And friends urged Brinkley to search the family computer. They even came over to help, an operation Brinkley said looked like something out of “Charlie’s Angels.” There, she found a “creepy labyrinth of files and photos I never knew existed.”

“I was good at guessing passwords, and soon enough, a panoply of frightening email exchanges, incriminating photos, and porn accounts populated the screen like fireworks,” Brinkley wrote. “It was so insane that it was almost funny, and soon enough, the three of us were doubled over in laughter, as printouts of girls in X-rated poses began piling up on the floor faster than trash outside a greasy takeaway.”

Brinkley and Cook’s split resulted in a six-year court battle. Social Life Magazine reported that the divorce trial was “tabloid catnip and a full-blown media spectacle.” It was also “a mother fighting to protect her cubs.”

Today, Brinkley told the outlet she finds solace tending to her garden, just like another famous blonde.

“I admire Pamela [Anderson],” Brinkley told Social Life about the “Baywatch” icon. “I think we were both misread. Different myths were built around each of us, and now we’ve found the freedom to say what was always ours. We’re not salon blondes. We’re hands-in-the-dirt women. We bloom in the garden.”

Brinkley previously told Fox News Digital she dares to love again.

“I find that love is the strongest thing in the whole world, and we are surrounded by love,” she said. “There are so many kinds of love and love for our friends, love for our families, love for nature and love for people that protect nature. I love love – I feel like my life is so full of love.”

“I think if there’s a romantic love that comes along, it would be wonderful,” she shared. “But I also feel very content and happy with the life that I have right now. I consider my life to be very full of love.”

WNBA stars participating in Saturday night’s All-Star Game wore a message on their T-shirts during warm-ups directed at league officials amid tense collective bargaining agreement (CBA) talks.

Each WNBA All-Star, including Indiana Fever sharpshooter Caitlin Clark who was sidelined for the game, wore the shirt. The clothing also featured the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) logo underneath the message.

The shirts read, “Pay Us What You Owe Us.” However, the message didn’t appear to resonate across social media.

WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike praised the players for using their platform.

“I’m just so inspired by the amount of players that showed up, the engagement that was there,” she said. “That’s really what it’s all about. Because the more that happens, the more that we’re going to be able to get things done. I think today we’re going to be able to use this conversation to start rolling the ball on things.”

Players have argued that business has been booming for the league and they deserve an increase in salaries because of it. The WNBA was a part of a new $2.2 billion rights deal that will start next season and, with the league planning to expand to 18 teams by 2030, the new franchises are paying a $250 million expansion fee.

WNBA STARS SEND MESSAGE TO LEAGUE BEFORE ALL-STAR GAME AMID CONTENTIOUS CBA NEGOTIATIONS

The New York Post reported last year that the league was projected to lose $40 million during the 2024 season. The new media rights deal is expected to bring at least a $100 million increase from what the league was making on its current rights deal, which the report said was about $60 million in 2024.

Even through the contention, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said Saturday night that she was optimistic a deal would get done.

“I’m still really optimistic that we’ll get something done that would be transformational,” she said. “And that, next year at All-Star, we’ll be talking about how great everything is. Obviously there’s a lot of hard work to be done on both sides to get there.”

‘Sound of Music’ child stars reunite in Italy, celebrating decades-long friendship

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The hills are alive – with the sound of a reunion.

The former child stars of “The Sound of Music,” who have remained friends for 60 years, recently reunited in Florence, Italy. Kym Karath, who played the youngest von Trapp sibling, Gretl, shared photos of the group catching up and enjoying bottles of wine on her Instagram.

“The Sound of Music in Florence – the five of us!” the 66-year-old captioned a group photo.

‘THE SOUND OF MUSIC’ ACTRESS KYM KARATH RECALLS CLOSE BOND WITH JULIE ANDREWS, WHY SHE ‘FLED’ HOLLYWOOD

In the snap, Karath appeared alongside Nicholas Hammond, 75, who played the eldest von Trapp son, Friedrich; Duane Chase, 74, who played Kurt; Angela Cartwright, 72, who played Brigitta; and Debbie Turner, 68, who played Marta.

It was a bittersweet reunion for the pals. Heather Menzies-Urich, who played Louisa, died in 2017 at the age of 68. Charmian Carr, who was the eldest sibling Liesl, passed away in 2016 at age 73.

Christopher Plummer, who played the family patriarch Captain von Trapp, died in 2021 at the age of 91.

“Celebrating together in Florence with all my film siblings was a complete delight,” Karath told Fox News Digital.

“Being together, the five of us, in one of the most beautiful cities, Florence, and appearing in the breathtaking historic theater Teatro Niccolini, built in 1648, was absolutely magical,” she gushed. “The press was wonderful, and the fans were overwhelmingly warm and enthusiastic.”

Karath said it’s a no-brainer that the castmates have remained close over the years.

“I think the secret behind our friendship is the secret of all enduring friendships, although ours started at a film studio; staying close, loyal, and being there for one another,” the actress explained.

“As for the film’s enduring appeal, beyond the soaring melodies and beautiful locations, it is the story of a real family who loved one another and were truly courageous.”

“The Sound of Music” premiered on March 2, 1965. The Oscar-winning film was inspired by the real-life von Trapp family that fled Austria to escape the Nazi regime. It tells the tale of a 1930s governess who watches over the large family and their widowed father, with the help of music.

Descendants of the von Trapp family now run the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort in Vermont.

“Here is a little-known fact – the film family is friends with the real family,” said Karath. “I just had a wonderful conversation with Elizabeth von Trapp, Werner’s daughter. Werner was portrayed by Duane Chase… and they became friends. When Werner passed away, he left Duane his beautiful Austrian jacket.”

There’s also one good reason why the cast enjoyed an Italian getaway.

“We are currently working on a documentary and filmed [it] while we were in Florence together!” she teased.

The actress was just three years old when she was scouted while having a cheeseburger at her father’s restaurant in California. However, Karath’s claim to fame was the film adaptation of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music.”

Karath previously told Fox News Digital that being on the set in Salzburg was “spellbinding.”

“One of the best things about that movie for me was becoming a family,” Karath explained. “And we did become one in real life. And being in Salzburg, Austria, I think, started my profound love of Europe and history. [But] it was not a fun thing missing my father and brother. But my sister and mother were with me. And our group really became a family, which was wonderful.”

The film’s leading lady, Julie Andrews, quickly developed a close-knit bond with the child actors. The star, now 86, went on to win a Golden Globe and received an Academy Award nomination for her performance as Maria. Karath described the actress as “a gift.”

“I loved her from the minute I met her,” she gushed. “There is never a bad moment with Julie Andrews – never. She’s just the sweetest, most unbelievable, talented, brilliant human… I think we all have the same favorite memory to some extent. That was when she took out her guitar and she just sang to us. And she would have us sing with her in between the scenes to amuse us, to entertain us, to make the time pass. She was a pure delight.”

Plummer did not offer the same warm and fuzzy feeling, she said.

“At the time, he was kind of standoffish,” Karath admitted. “Very handsome, but I really wasn’t noticing men being handsome at [age] five – actually let me correct myself. I noticed that George Chakiris was handsome when he was in ‘West Side Story.’”

But that all changed decades later.

‘Powerful witness of faith’: Beach Catholic brings worship to the sand in New York

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Worshipers are bringing the Good Word beyond church walls, hitting the beaches this summer.

Beach Catholic of Long Island, New York, consists of three parishes hosting Mass near the sea every Sunday. (See the video at the top of this article.)

Over 1,000 people have attended the service per week since the group first began in 2014.

POPULAR VACATION SPOT BANS ‘GIGANTIC HOLES’ IN SAND AFTER NEAR-TRAGEDY

Jordan Bernhardi, Beach Catholic director of operations, told Fox News Digital he predicts more than 50,000 people have attended the Masses over the last decade.

“It is a powerful public witness of faith that draws Catholics from all over Long Island, with some even coming from New York City. There is something so powerful about hundreds of Catholics, kneeling before their King and receiving Him in the Eucharist, at the beach,” said Bernhardi.

He added, “As our new holy father, Pope Leo XIV, has said, we are called to be a missionary church. In a culture that needs Jesus now, maybe more than ever before, we believe that the answer is to bring Him out.”

The Masses are spread across three different beaches on Long Island and three parishes – St. Ignatius Martyr, St. Mary of The Isle, and Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal.

“We believe that the answer is to bring Him out.”

Fr. Brian Barr, pastor of Beach Catholic, told Fox News Digital faith is not intended to be contained within four walls.

“When you were a kid, do you remember being uneasy or embarrassed about expressing your faith in front of others? I do. I think most people do. We shouldn’t be that way,” said Barr.

“But for whatever reason, many of us are. Bringing the Eucharist, which is our most important prayer, to the streets (and the beach), challenges that fear in a great way,” Barr added. “Like most things that scare us, the more you confront them, the quicker you conquer them.”

Fox News Digital was on hand at a recent Sunday beach Mass, asking attendees what the service means to them.

Attendee Tim Murphy said he has been attending the service every summer since it began.

Every week we still make the trip to come down and it’s worth the trip if you have never been. My wife and I actually met here because of the beach Mass, and so my son would not be born without the beach Mass,” said Murphy.

He says attending the Mass has been life-changing.

“Having this many people come together and celebrate outside on the beach is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he said.

“People passing along on the boardwalk, getting to stop and hear the Word of God, it’s an incredible experience, and you should really join us at some point this year.”

Dee Santos told Fox News Digital every week is a special moment, and she saw 1,200 people attend last week to receive communion.

“What I love is, first of all, we have this beautiful gift from God of the beach, and we get to celebrate his gifts to us in his presence on the beach,” said Santos.

“The other piece of it that’s so wonderful is it brings people in who maybe wouldn’t even see us worshiping. It brings people off the boardwalk, off the beach,” said Santos.

“Last week we had someone who wanted to know what was going on. And we said, we’re going to have mass here.”

She said the man decided to stay and partake in the Mass.

“It’s also really nice to bring in other voices from the church, hear about what’s going on across the Barrier Island, and really get to celebrate being Catholic and worshiping together,” said Santos.
