The race for New York City mayor intensified this week when former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, called out socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani for owning property in Uganda despite the country’s anti-LGBT policies.

“The no-show assemblyman missed this interview while vacationing at his parents’ compound in Uganda, a country that murders LGBTQIA+ people,” Cuomo posted on X Tuesday.

“Silence is violence. I hereby call on you to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction your property in Uganda and commit to stop spending tourism dollars there until they overturn their hateful, discriminatory laws which violate basic human rights.”

Mamdani, who was born in Uganda, has faced criticism in recent days for spending the last part of June at his family’s compound in Uganda, where, according to a New York Post report, his wedding celebration was surrounded by armed guards.

MAMDANI’S PAST ‘VISCERAL DISDAIN’ FOR POLICE ‘SCARES A LOT OF NEW YORKERS’ FOR GOOD REASON: NYC CRIME EXPERT

Some, including GOP opponent Curtis Sliwa, called him a hypocrite for calling to defund the police for everyday New Yorkers in the past while employing tight security at his overseas wedding celebration.

Cuomo’s post alluded to Mamdani’s strident support for BDS and sanctions against Israel. which Mamdani has promoted dating back to his college days and has stood by on the campaign trail.

Uganda has a long history of government actions against LGBT individuals, including last year, when Uganda’s Constitutional Court upheld an anti-gay law that allows the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality.”

“Queer and trans people across the United States are facing an increasingly hostile political environment,” Mamdani’s campaign website states.

“New York City must be a refuge for LGBTQIA+ people, but private institutions in our own city have already started capitulating to Trump’s assault on trans rights. Meanwhile, the cost of living crisis confronting working class people across the city hits the LGBTQIA+ community particularly hard, with higher rates of unemployment and homelessness than the rest of the city.

“The Mamdani administration will protect LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers by expanding and protecting gender-affirming care citywide, making NYC an LGBTQIA+ sanctuary city, and creating the Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs.”

A U.S. Army soldier in Texas with a top security clearance has been charged with handing over sensitive information about the military’s main battle tank in exchange for Russian citizenship.

Taylor Adam Lee, 22, was arrested Wednesday on charges of attempted transmission of national defense information to a foreign adversary and attempted export of controlled technical data without a license.

“This arrest is an alarming reminder of the serious threat facing our U.S. Army,” said Brigadier General Sean F. Stinchon, the commanding general of Army Counterintelligence Command.

FORMER CIA ANALYST LEARNS FATE AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO LEAKING HIGHLY CLASSIFIED INFORMATION

Federal prosecutors said Lee attempted to hand over information to someone he believed to be a Russian intelligence officer in exchange for Russian citizenship.

Lee was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso where he held a Top Secret (TS) / Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance, the Justice Department said.

In June, he allegedly transmitted information regarding the M1A2 Abrams tank online and offered assistance to Russia, stating, “the USA is not happy with me for trying to expose their weaknesses.”

“At this point I’d even volunteer to assist the Russian Federation when I’m there in any way,” he allegedly said.

During a July meeting between Lee and someone he believed to be a representative of the Russian government, Lee allegedly passed an SD card, which contained documents and information on the Abrams battle tank, another armored fighting vehicle used by the U.S. military, and combat operations, prosecutors said.

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE HELD AFTER ATTEMPT TO SHARE CLASSIFIED INFORMATION WITH FOREIGN COUNTRY

Several documents contained technical data that Lee wasn’t authorized to provide, prosecutors said.

Other documents on the SD card were marked as Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and featured banner warnings and dissemination controls. During the meeting, Lee allegedly said that the information on the SD card was sensitive and likely classified.

Lee also discussed obtaining and providing a specific piece of hardware inside the M1A2 Abrams tank to the Russian government, authorities said. On July 31, he delivered what appeared to be the hardware to a storage unit in El Paso.

He then sent a message to the individual he believed to be a representative of the Russian government stating: “Mission accomplished.”

“Today’s arrest is a message to anyone thinking about betraying the U.S. – especially service members who have sworn to protect our homeland,” said Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division. “The FBI and our partners will do everything in our power to protect Americans and safeguard classified information.”

Lee’s arrest came on the same day that a soldier shot five other soldiers in Fort Stewart, Georgia. Sgt. Quornelius Radford, 28, shot five soldiers in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) area of the installation, authorities said.

All the soldiers were treated on-site and then transported to Winn Army Community Hospital, according to Fort Stewart officials. Radford, who has been apprehended, serves as an automated logistics sergeant assigned to the ABCT.

Social media erupts over Beyoncé’s jeans ad following Sweeney controversy

Social media users went into a frenzy as singer Beyoncé Knowles dropped her own new jeans ad following the release of actress Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle (AE) ad.

The singer-songwriter and Levi’s jeans unveiled their latest fashion collaboration on social media Tuesday, featuring a blonde Knowles wearing a rhinestone-encrusted denim suit. The image sent shockwaves across social media, which had just been roiling over Sweeney’s ad that some media outlets accused of promoting “Whiteness.”

“So Beyoncé can pose in Levi jeans and it’s art… But when a White woman does it, it’s a national crisis?” one user wrote, suggesting a double standard in how both women were being treated for their ads.

SYDNEY SWEENEY HAS NO FEAR OF FILMING NUDE SCENES AS SHE HIGHLIGHTS BODY TRANSFORMATION FOR ROLE

Though Beyoncé had been collaborating with Levi’s prior to Sweeney’s AE campaign, the latest roll-out from the pop star and fashion brand happened within days of the release of Sweeney’s ad, which caused a firestorm online with its tagline, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.”

The line’s double meaning, referring to both the blue-eyed, blonde actress’ looks and her denim pants, had many online and in the media accusing the movie star and fashion brand of promoting White supremacist themes.

For example, far-left outlet Salon’s weekend editor CK Smith linked the tagline of Sweeney’s ad to “eugenics movements.”

“Eugenics movements in the U.S. often promoted the idea of ‘good genes’ to encourage reproduction among White, able-bodied people while justifying the forced sterilization of others. Critics say those ideas still show up in modern advertising and influencer culture, often unexamined,” Smith wrote last month.

Many of the social media responses to a blonde Beyoncé donning jeans in her own ad appeared to be referencing the Sweeney controversy.

“Those curves = good genes,” one user wrote on Levi’s Instagram post featuring the ad.

Another wrote, “Sweeney looks better,” and someone else declared, “We want Sydney Sweeney!”

On X, users commented on the Beyoncé ad in the context of Sweeney’s as well.

Commentator John LeFevre said people were letting Beyoncé get away with cultural appropriation in this ad, but would never allow Sweeney to get away with that.

“Hard to recognize, but this is Beyonce – with straightened blonde hair and lightened skin. If Sydney Sweeney did an ad in braids, the world would melt down…” he wrote.

British commentator Oli London called out the different treatments of both ad campaigns, asking, “Beyoncé appeared in Levi Jeans advert. Zero liberal outrage. Sydney Sweeney appeared in American Eagle advert. Massive liberal outrage. Why is that?”

Washington Examiner contributor Kimberly Ross criticized people for throwing barbs over both ads.

“What if I said Sydney Sweeney has good genes, Beyoncé has good genes, and flipping out about either is stupid? Move on from these inane discussions. Good lord,” she said.

Fox News contributor Nicole Saphier implied there was cultural appropriation on Knowles’ part.

“Just going to leave this pic from Beyoncé Levi’s campaign right here for those saying Sydney Sweeney with her blond hair/denim/sultry look is racist…” she stated.

Department of Homeland Security officials took 16 individuals into custody on Wednesday morning during immigration raids at a Los Angeles Home Depot, territory that federal authorities say is in the grip of the notorious MS-13 gang.

The operation happened around 7 a.m. in the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles. As DHS officials burst onto the scene from the back of Penske trucks, migrants began scattering from the parking lot, according to video from the scene.

DHS told Fox News that the violent MS-13 gang has a chokehold on the area, which is why the highly optic immigration raid was carried out at the location.

No further details about the 16 detained individuals were immediately provided.

The raid happened near the site of immigration raids last month that saw Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass come to the scene to ask federal agents to leave.

“They need to leave, and they need to leave right now. They need to leave because this is unacceptable!” Bass, who has been a vocal opponent of immigration raids in the city, said at the time.

Three days after walking free from jail, a repeat offender was caught on camera trying to snatch a toddler from her family at a Virginia mall, prompting Gov. Glenn Youngkin to condemn the county’s soft-on-crime policies.

“There is a shocking and unforgivable pattern in Fairfax County of releasing criminals back onto Virginia’s streets instead of keeping them behind bars,” Youngkin wrote on X. “The Commonwealth’s Attorney cares more about protecting criminals than about keeping children safe.”

“Fairfax County parents should be horrified,” Youngkin said.

Following Youngkin’s post, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares also took to X, saying his office “will examine the facts and report to the people of Fairfax why CA Descano’s [Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano] refusal to prosecute criminals has been allowed to endanger the public.”

SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS 26-YEAR-OLD MAN GRABBING TODDLER FROM MALL PLAY AREA BEFORE ARREST FOR ABDUCTION

Viral video, captured on CCTV footage at around 11:35 a.m. July 18 at the Fair Oaks Shopping Center in Fair Oaks, Virginia, captured 26-year-old Andres Caceres Jaldin scooping up a young toddler.

Parents of the young girl found Jaldin on the second floor of the mall and got their daughter back.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, Jaldin fled the mall but was arrested a short time later at the Extended Stay hotel in Chantilly, Virginia. Jaldin allegedly stole a car from an auto shop before the alleged abduction.

He was charged with abduction of a minor and grand larceny.

Following the incident, which could have been any parents’ worst nightmare, Jaldin’s criminal history came to light.

Jaldin was released on his own recognizance on July 15 in connection with a hit-and-run on July 2. “Release on one’s own recognizance” is a court’s decision to allow a defendant to be released from custody without having to post bail, based on their promise to appear in court.

Sophie Cunningham did not learn the lesson.

Days after she was fined $500 for criticizing referees on a TikTok, she was fined triple that amount for doing so again.

In her new podcast, “Show Me Something,” Cunningham insinuated that refs “mess up all the time.”

“If I was a ref, I know I would mess up all the time. Like, I’m not saying that your job is easy, but when it is a simple call right in front of your face multiple times, what are you doing? What are you doing?” Cunningham began.

“They’re just so inconsistent, like that’s one thing. If you’re on the other team, and you’re going to be fouling the s— out of me, cool. But let me do it to you… I think players across the league, and new fans across the country are like, ‘What is going on with the refs?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know.’ And you fining me $500 is not going to do s—.”

Cunningham accurately predicted she would get fined.

“They fined me $1,500. I’m like, ‘This is just the beginning.’ I’m like, ‘You’re kidding,'” Cunningham said on the podcast’s most recent episode

I said that I would not be good at it. I did say that. Like, look at the whole picture. What are we doing? Ugh. But yeah, so I got fined for that.”

Actress Sharon Stone drops bombshell about that ‘Basic Instinct’ scene

That scene.

Looking back on her infamous “Basic Instinct” leg-crossing scene, Sharon Stone says she wouldn’t take it out, despite having had the legal right to do so at the time.

“It made me an icon, but it didn’t bring me respect,” Stone told Business Insider of the controversial moment.

She added, “I very much believe that none of us knew at the time what we were getting in regard to that shot, and when [director] Paul [Verhoeven] got it, he didn’t want to lose it, and he was scared to show me. And I get that.”

She said once she calmed down, “I didn’t make him take it out of the movie when I had the legal right to. So I did have the chance to do it differently, and I didn’t because once I had the chance to step back, I understood, as the director, not the girl in the film, that that made the movie better.”

Stone went into more detail about her reaction in her memoir “The Beauty of Living Twice.”

“First, at that time, this would give the film an X rating,” Stone explained. “Remember, this was 1992, not now, when we see erect penises on Netflix. And, Marty said, per the Screen Actors Guild, my union, it wasn’t legal to shoot up my dress in this fashion. Whew, I thought. After the screening, I let Paul know of the options Marty had laid out for me. Of course, he vehemently denied that I had any choices at all. I was just an actress, just a woman; what choices could I have?”

“I very much believe that none of us knew at the time what we were getting in regard to that shot, and when [director] Paul [Verhoeven] got it, he didn’t want to lose it, and he was scared to show me. And I get that.”

She wrote that before she had been called in to see the shot, she had been told “‘We can’t see anything – I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.'”

Stone wrote that she eventually decided to let it stay in because “it was correct for the film and for the character; and because, after all, I did it.”

In fact, Stone told Insider that she almost didn’t get the part of villainess Catherine Tramell because Michael Douglas, who played the detective investigating her for murder, didn’t want to work with an unknown.

“Everyone they went out to would turn it down,” she explained. “But the thing was, Michael Douglas did not want to put his bare a– out on the screen with an unknown — and I understood that. He wouldn’t even test with me, but that was also for a different reason: We had an argument prior to that.”

Stone said at the Cannes Film Festival before she was cast in “Basic Instinct” she called him out for talking about someone she knew.

“So I said something and he responded to me, saying, ‘What the f— do you know?’” she said. “So he screams this at me across a whole group of people. And I’m not the person who goes, ‘Oh, excuse me, superstar.’ I pushed back my chair and said to him, ‘Let’s step outside.’ That’s how we first met.”

The pair did indeed go outside, Stone claimed, and she said she explained to him what she knew of the person he was talking about.

“And then we parted,” she said. “I wouldn’t say as best friends, but amicably. So, fast forward to casting ‘Basic Instinct,’ I don’t think he wanted me to be his costar.”

Reps for Douglas told Insider that he didn’t remember seeing Stone at Cannes until they were promoting the film together.

Allen Burry, a rep for Douglas, told Fox News Digital, “Michael Douglas has nothing to say beyond what was reported yesterday by People magazine online.”

Burry told People on Monday that Douglas was “very surprised [by Sharon’s quotes],” as “he doesn’t remember any argument in that timeframe” between them.

“He actually only remembers seeing and meeting Sharon for the first time when he saw [director] Paul Verhoeven’s screen test of her for ‘Basic Instinct’ and [Michael] said, ‘Absolutely, she’s the one,'” he continued.

While Douglas “definitely spent time with” Stone at Cannes, “that was later, when they were promoting ‘Basic Instinct in 1992,” Burry said. “And by the time they’d done the movie, they were friends.”

Stone said the tension helped their onscreen chemistry.

“It worked great because I was not rattled if he yelled at me,” she said. “That was interesting for the character because Michael has a temper, and I didn’t care. That worked very well in our dynamic. Eventually, we became the greatest of friends, to this day. I admire him tremendously.”

Tennessee Republicans position for Senate spot after Blackburn’s explosive move

The horse race for the next open Senate seat in Tennessee is already kicking off after Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., announced a bid for the governorship earlier Wednesday.

Tennessee Republican Reps. Andy Ogles and Tim Burchett both told Fox News Digital they’re interested in Blackburn’s seat.

Ogles said, “Absolutely,” when asked if he would consider a push for Congress’ upper chamber. Burchett noted that any such situation was a “long ways off” but confirmed he was looking at it as well.

COMER DISMISSES BIDEN DOCTOR’S BID FOR PAUSE IN COVER-UP PROBE: ‘THROWING OUT EVERY EXCUSE’

Blackburn just won re-election for her second term in the U.S. Senate in the November 2024 cycle.

If she ran for governor and won, Blackburn would have to vacate her seat – setting up a potential power vacuum in the Volunteer State.

Tennessee law grants the governor the ability to appoint someone to fill Senate vacancies until the next regularly scheduled election.

That means that if Blackburn leaves by 2026, her successor would be tapped to serve until 2031.

GOP LAWMAKERS CLASH OVER STRATEGY TO AVERT GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN CRISIS

Both Ogles and Burchett said they would be interested in running for the seat in the 2030 election cycle if appointed to the upper chamber.

But it could very well be up to Blackburn to choose her successor, depending on when she hypothetically resigned from the Senate.

Tennessee state law does not specify when she has to step down from the Senate, according to local outlet Knox News.

If the vacancy occurred before Blackburn stepped down, the decision would likely fall to term-limited Gov. Bill Lee. But Lee could leave the decision to Blackburn if she resigned after being sworn in to take his place.

“Trump is back, America is blessed, and Tennessee – better than ever,” Blackburn said in a video announcing her campaign launch on Wednesday. “I love Tennessee, I believe in Tennesseans, and I’m ready to deliver the kind of conservative leadership that will ensure our state is America’s conservative leader for this generation and the next.

Her candidacy sets up a high-stakes GOP primary against her congressional colleague, Rep. John Rose.

If she wins, Blackburn would be the first female governor of Tennessee.

Still no deal: The countries that haven’t struck trade terms with Trump

As President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariff rates come into effect this week, there are a handful of countries that have yet to agree to a trade deal.

In the days leading up to the August deadline, Trump unveiled a wave of major trade agreements with key U.S. partners, including Japan, the United Kingdom, the European Union and South Korea.

TRUMP’S GLOBAL RESET OF TRADE RELATIONS WILL REMAIN IN THE SPOTLIGHT THIS WEEK

Nations that have not yet secured a deal, or at least outlined terms, face import duties ranging from 10% to 40%. The Trump administration has entered temporary truces with Mexico and China in order to give their trade teams time to continue negotiating.

Here’s a look at some of America’s top trading partners that have yet to finalize a deal.

India

On Monday, Trump said he would “substantially” raise tariffs on imported Indian goods, citing New Delhi’s continued purchase and resale of sanctioned Russian oil on the open market.

Trump argued that India’s practice of purchasing discounted Russian crude and re-selling it on the global market helps sustain Moscow’s wartime economy amid Western sanctions. The hike in duties signals a widening rift between New Delhi and Washington.

A SHADOWY FLEET OF ‘GHOST SHIPS’ IS FERRYING RUSSIAN OIL TO INDIAN PORTS

“They’re fueling the war machine, and if they’re going to do that, then I’m not going to be happy,” Trump told CNBC in an interview on Tuesday.

He added that India’s protectionist trade practices and high tariff rates were early sticking points in negotiations between Washington and New Delhi.

“India went from the highest tariffs ever. They will give us zero tariffs, and they’re going to let us go in. But that’s not good enough, because of what they’re doing with oil,” he said.

TRUMP HITS INDIA WITH 25% TARIFF OVER RUSSIA OIL PURCHASES

India, the world’s fourth-largest economy, ran a trade deficit of nearly $46 billion with the U.S. in 2024, according to data complied by the U.S. Trade Representative

Total trade between the two countries is valued at nearly $130 billion in 2024, with U.S. exports to India worth $41 billion and imports from India at $87 billion.

Canada

Trump recently raised the tariff on Canada, America’s second-largest trading partner behind Mexico, from 25% to 35%

Earlier this year, Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian steel, automobiles and other products not covered under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Canada retaliated and imposed $43 billion worth of its own tariffs against U.S. goods.

WHITE HOUSE SAYS CANADA HAS BEEN ‘DIFFICULT’ AS TRADE DEADLINE LOOMS

The leading categories of bilateral trade between the U.S. and Canada include energy, motor vehicles, goods related to the aerospace sector and $30 billion in agricultural products.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt previously singled out Ottawa during a July 17 press briefing, saying “our neighbors to the north have been pretty difficult to deal with” when asked about the ongoing trade talks.

Earlier in the week, Dominic LeBlanc, Canada’s lead on U.S. trade relations, said Prime Minister Mark Carney will likely hold talks with Trump “over the next number of days.”

Brazil

Trump has imposed some of the harshest U.S. tariffs on Brazil amid a deepening standoff with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva over trade, energy, and the high-profile trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Brazil now faces a 50% tariff on imports, though several major categories — such as aircraft, aluminum, and select energy products — have been exempted. The move is widely seen as partly retaliatory, targeting the U.S.–Brazil trade relationship in response to Bolsonaro’s ongoing prosecution. Bolsonaro is on trial for allegedly conspiring to overturn his 2022 election defeat to Lula, which Trump has described as a “witch hunt.”

Meanwhile, Lula has denounced Trump’s tariffs as “economic blackmail,” and trade negotiations between the two countries remain stalled.
