Explosion at US Steel Clairton Coke Works leaves 1 dead, many injured
An explosion at a U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburgh killed at least one person as rescuers raced to help dozens of people injured or trapped under the rubble on Monday.
The blast happened just before 11 a.m. at the Clairton Coke Works. There has been one death and at least two people are believed to be missing, Allegheny County Emergency Services said.
“Two people are currently believed to be unaccounted for with possible entrapment,” Kasey Reigner, Allegheny County Emergency Services spokesperson, said in a statement.
Officials said multiple people have been treated for injuries, though their current status was not immediately known.

“Our top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our employees and the environment. We are working closely with relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the incident and will provide additional updates as they become available,” David B. Burritt, President and Chief Executive Officer of United States Steel Corporation said. “Nearly 1,300 dedicated men and women work at the Clairton Plant each day, performing their jobs with the utmost safety. During times like this, U. S. Steel employees come together to extend their love, prayers, and support to everyone affected.”
Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman said there was an active search and rescue underway with dozens injured.
Clairton Mayor Rich Lattanzi also told KDKA-TV that there have been reports of multiple injuries.
Lattanzi said he heard that the explosion happened in the “reversing room between thirteenth and fifteenth battery,” which is part of the control system of the coking factory.

“They have a tough job, and it’s a dangerous job,” Lattanzi said of the plant workers. “My heart bleeds for every one of them and their families.”
United Steelworkers District 10 Director Bernie Hall said in a statement that union officials were on the ground assessing the situation and helping its members.
“While we are still determining the scope of the tragedy, we are aware that multiple workers are receiving medical treatment for their injuries,” Hall said. “In the coming days, we will work with the appropriate authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and to see that our members get the support they need.”

The cause of death of Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband and former manager, has been revealed.
“Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana on August 7th under hospice care surrounded by his family,” Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis told Fox News Digital. Blackstock’s cause of death was melanoma, a form of skin cancer.
The manner of death was natural causes. He was 48.
On Aug. 7, a representative for the family confirmed Blackstock’s death in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” the “Since U Been Gone” singer captioned an Instagram post on Wednesday. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father [ex-husband Brandon Blackstock] has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”

“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,” she concluded.
The singer, who was married to Blackstock for seven years before their divorce in 2022, reportedly “remained protective” of her ex as he battled cancer for three years.
“Kelly remained protective of him when she found out he was sick,” a source told People magazine. “She’s always kept things classy, even when it became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”
While their tumultuous divorce played out in the public eye, Clarkson’s focus has always been on maintaining stability for their two children — River Rose and Remington Alexander.

“The divorce was incredibly difficult for her — messy, painful and something she felt terrible about,” the source told the outlet. “But she never wanted her kids to be caught in the crossfire. She never spoke poorly about Brandon to them.”
Clarkson and Blackstock were married in 2013, but they met years earlier as Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, owns the music management company that represented Clarkson beginning in 2007. The pair welcomed their first child, daughter River Rose, in 2014 and their son, Remington Alexander, was born in 2016.
In 2020, Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock, who also served as her manager.
Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce was settled in 2022, with Clarkson receiving primary physical custody of their two children while still paying their father $45,000 a month in child support.
While McEntire has yet to speak about Blackstock’s death, her son Shelby shared a tribute to his late half-brother on Friday.

“Words cannot begin to capture the tremendous loss our family has endured. Yesterday, we lost a brother, a father, a grandfather, and a son,” Shelby wrote alongside a photo of Blackstock beaming while sitting on a brown horse in a paddock.
“Brandon Blackstock was an irreplaceable part of our family — funny, bright, and full of life — and he will be deeply missed,” Shelby added. “He taught me so much, leaving behind countless cherished memories that I will hold onto forever.”
“For every treasured moment we shared, there are so many more we’ll never get to make together, but I know you’ll still be there,” he added. “Every hunt, every flight, and in the everyday moments of life, I’ll feel your presence.”
“And although it may annoy you, you’ll have to watch me do it all just a little better, a little smoother, and — let’s be honest — looking far more handsome than you ever could in the process.
“We will always miss you, Brandon, and we will never stop loving, remembering and celebrating you.”
Liberal host calls out the ‘The View’ for ‘not helpful’ talking points
HBO host Bill Maher had some harsh words for the co-hosts of “The View” on Monday.
While interviewing actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore on his “Club Random” podcast, Maher admitted he doesn’t think that the five women who host the ABC show are the best spokespeople for the female perspective.
“And I like everyone, but I don’t know if they’re really at this moment the best advertisement for women,” he told the actress.
BILL MAHER SAYS DEMOCRATS NEED TO ‘DO SOMETHING’ ABOUT ‘THE VIEW’ AFTER WHOOPI GOLDBERG’S IRAN COMMENTS
The topic came up when “The Drew Barrymore Show” host told Maher to visit New York City and be a guest on her show, which prompted Maher to talk about his friendship with several of the women on “The View.” He acknowledged his fondness for them as his friends but admitted their show is “a lot.”
“I’m friendly with some of the ladies on ‘The View’ and I love them but, like, that show’s a lot.”
Barrymore brought up that ‘View’ co-host Joy Behar appeared on her show recently and Maher remarked, “I love Joy.” He went on to say that though he likes everybody on the ABC talk show, he’s not such a fan of their talking points on the program.
“They say some things that are just like, not helpful, say to elections.”
BILL MAHER’S GUEST APPLAUDS HOST’S TIRADE AGAINST ‘WEAK AND WOKE’ DEMS WHO THINK AMERICA IS ‘CRINGE’
Maher appeared as a guest on “The View” in May 2024, where he clashed with co-host Sunny Hostin about Israel’s conduct in its war with Hamas.
Hostin argued that Israel was murdering innocent Palestinian civilians and children in the conflict, and Maher pushed back. He stated that he was concerned about innocent lives being lost but insisted that Israel has the right to fight its war with Hamas and that if Hamas was concerned about innocent lives, they’d stop their attacks.
“That’s what happens in a war. Here’s a way to stop that, stop attacking Israel,” he said.

The HBO host also called out “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg in recent weeks, after she claimed in July that Black people are oppressed in America the same way that women are oppressed in Iran.

“That is something that, again, is infuriating about the far left, I would say. Call them whatever they wanted. Not the woke, the stupid woke, like Whoopi Goldberg, love her, but when she said a couple weeks ago that being Black was the same as being a woman in Iran, it’s like, yeah, in 1920, but not today,” Maher said during an episode of his podcast with his guest, progressive commentator Brian Tyler Cohen.
Coast Guard issues warning after Chinese research ships spotted in US Arctic
The Coast Guard warned of “increased Chinese research vessel activity” in the U.S. Arctic as it responded to multiple vessels in the region.
The agency said it recently “detected and responded to two Chinese research vessels operating in the U.S. Arctic and is currently monitoring a total of five similar vessels in or near the U.S Arctic.”
“On August 5, a C-130J Hercules fixed wing aircraft from Air Station Kodiak responded to the Chinese research vessels Ji Di and the Zhong Shan Da Xue Ji Di. Both vessels were transiting northeast in the Bering Sea,” the Coast Guard said.
“On August 6, the crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche (WMSL 751) again responded to the Zhong Shan Da Xue Ji Di as it was transiting north in the Chukchi Sea above the Arctic Circle, after passing through the Bering Strait,” they added.

The Coast Guard released a photo of the Zhong Shan Da Xue Ji Di as taken from the C-130J Hercules. They noted that the aircraft and Waesche were “patrolling under Operation Frontier Sentinel, an operation that responds to adversaries operating in and around Alaskan and U.S. Arctic waters.”
OPINION: RUSSIA, CHINA ARE TRYING TO SEIZE CONTROL OF THE ARTIC. WE CAN’T LET THEM SUCCEED
“In July, Coast Guard Arctic District deployed a C-130J Hercules fixed wing aircraft from Air Station Kodiak to query the Xue Long 2, another Chinese research vessel, approximately 290 nautical miles north of Utqiagvik, Alaska,” the Coast Guard also said.
The sightings of the Chinese ships are part of a “three-year trend of increased activity” in the region, according to officials.

“The Coast Guard Arctic District works in conjunction with international partners, U.S. Northern Command, and Alaskan Command to constantly monitor the activity of foreign vessels operating near U.S. sovereign waters and the extended outer continental shelf to ensure homeland security, homeland defense, and compliance with U.S. and international law,” the agency said.
Woman who ‘never snored before’ discovers terrifying reason behind sudden symptom
A mother in the U.K. who began snoring for the first time in her life was stunned to learn the unexpected symptom was a sign of a rare and potentially life-threatening cancer.
“I started snoring, which I’d never done before,” she recalled. “I was waking myself up, breathing through my mouth rather than my nose.”
Claire Barbery, 51, initially brushed off the blockage on one side of her nose, blaming it on the after-effects of COVID-19 or irritation from frequent testing while working at a care facility, as reported by SWNS.
DOCTORS REVEAL KEY SIGNS OF LYME DISEASE AS TICK SEASON INTENSIFIES ACROSS US
It wasn’t until the persistent congestion worsened and she started snoring in her sleep that she sought medical advice.
“I very nearly canceled that appointment because I didn’t want to be wasting NHS time,” Barbery said, per SWNS. “There’s nothing wrong, I thought. But looking back, that decision could have cost me my life.”
Barbery tried using a steroid spray without success before being referred to an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist in January 2023.
After undergoing scans and a biopsy, she was diagnosed with olfactory neuroblastoma, a rare type of cancer that develops in the upper part of the nasal cavity.
Doctors discovered a 5-centimeter tumor that had already begun eroding the bone at the base of Barbery’s skull.
FORGET 10,000 STEPS — RESEARCH REVEALS THE REAL NUMBER YOU NEED FOR BETTER HEALTH
It was a dangerous and complex case requiring urgent intervention.
The surgery was performed at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by consultant surgeon Shahz Ahmed, a skull base specialist, SWNS reported.
“If there’s something wrong, don’t ignore it.”
The procedure, which was featured in the Channel 5 documentary “Surgeons: A Matter of Life or Death,” involved removing the tumor along with Barbery’s olfactory bulbs, leaving her with a permanent loss of smell.
“Claire had a very rare form of cancer that needed to be removed,” Ahmed said in the report. “Untreated, it could have metastasized and spread into the neck and the rest of the body.”
Because the tumor had already spread through the skull base into the bottom of the brain, the surgery posed serious risks due to the proximity to vital structures.
“The key worries were operating between the left and the right eye,” Ahmed said. “The main blood supply to the brain is in very close proximity, so the risk of seizures, stroke, injury to the brain and loss of life were all very real.”

The surgery was a success and there were no complications. Following the procedure, Barbery underwent six weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
She is now under regular medical monitoring and continues to recover, gradually returning to work and enjoying time with her husband and daughters, SWNS reported.
Now living in Newquay, Cornwall, Barbery is using her experience to advocate for awareness of head and neck cancers.

She recently partnered with the Get A-Head Charitable Trust to raise awareness for World Head and Neck Cancer Day.
“If you know your body, then you’ve got to push,” she said. “If there’s something wrong, don’t ignore it.”
According to SWNS, Barbery’s case is a reminder that even minor or unusual symptoms, like snoring, can sometimes be signs of something far more serious.
Looking back, Barbery said she’s grateful she went to the appointment she almost canceled.
“Even then, I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time,” she admitted. “But that decision ended up saving my life.”
Trump blasts Zelenskyy for constitutional objection to ‘land swapping’ in Ukraine war
President Donald Trump took aim at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a press event on Monday over his frustration with the Ukrainian leader’s objection to “land swapping.”
“I get along with Zelenskyy, but, you know, I disagree with what he’s done, very, very severely, disagree. This is a war that should have never happened,” Trump said, reiterating his belief that the Ukrainian president is in part at fault for Russia’s illegal 2022 invasion.
“I was a little bothered by the fact that Zelensky was saying, ‘Well, I have to get constitutional approval’,” Trump said. “I mean, he’s got approval to go into war and kill everybody, but he needs approval to do a land swap, because there’ll be some land swapping going on.”
SUMMIT WITH PUTIN SET TO TOP TRUMP’S AGENDA THIS WEEK AS UKRAINE WAR TAKES CENTER STAGE
“I know that through Russia and through conversations with everybody,” Trump added, noting it was “for the good of Ukraine.”
Zelenskyy – who did not declare war on Russia, as Moscow had already invaded, did declare Martial Law on Feb. 24, 2022 with the approval of Ukraine’s parliament, which gave him presidential powers to mobilize a military response — made clear over the weekend that he objected to Trump’s “land swapping” proposal and has repeatedly said it would require a national referendum under the nation’s constitution, not a unilateral decision by him.
ZELENSKYY THANKS NATO, EUROPEAN LEADERS FOR BACKING HIS PUSH TO JOIN TRUMP‑PUTIN SUMMIT
Trump wouldn’t detail what exactly he hopes to get out of the meeting with Putin and described it as a “feel-out meeting,” saying within “the first two minutes [he’ll] know exactly whether or not a deal can be made.”
“I’m going in to speak to Vladimir Putin, and I’m going to be telling him, you got to end this war, you got to end it,” Trump said, reiterating his belief that if he had won the 2020 election, Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine, saying “he wasn’t going to mess with me.”

“I go into that thing fully loaded right up there, and we’re going to see what happens,” he continued. “It could be a good meeting, and we’ll go a step further. We’ll get it done.
“I’d like to see a ceasefire very, very quickly, very quick,” he continued. “And, we’re going to be dealing with the European leaders and, we’re going to be dealing with President Zelensky and hopefully we’re going to have a great success.”
DC resident claims city is safe while hiding name over ‘personal safety’ fears
A Washington Post article published Sunday described D.C. as a safe city, even as one of its sources declined to be named due to “concerns of personal safety.”
“This is a safe city, but overhearing and witnessing gang threats and then watching the camera footage of the thuggery is disturbing,” said one resident quoted in the Washington Post article, titled, “Trump says crime in D.C. is out of control. Here’s what the data shows.”
The resident, per the Post, was “speaking on the condition of anonymity over concerns of personal safety.”
DC DEMOCRATS RISK LOSING PUBLIC TRUST BY DODGING YOUTH CRIME CRISIS TRUMP IS ADDRESSING
The person, apparently speaking in reference to the attack and beating of a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee, Edward Coristine, by two teenagers who now face charges of unarmed carjacking from Washington D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department, said that the teenagers were walking around the streets and looked like they were searching for cars that were unlocked.
“The language Trump uses to describe D.C. is wrong,” the resident said, “But clearly there is something bad going on that needs to stop.”
The Post noted that, “Violent crime in D.C. has been on the decline since 2023, when a generational spike in killings rendered the nation’s capital one of America’s deadliest cities, plunging communities into grief and igniting a local political crisis that escalated to Congress.”
TRUMP VOWS TO MAKE DC ‘SAFER’ AND ‘BEAUTIFUL’ AS CAPITAL BATTLES CRIME AND HOMELESSNESS
President Donald Trump announced on Monday the deployment of National Guard troops to the nation’s capital in order to address violent crime in the city.
He discussed plans to clean up the city during a White House press conference, and in a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump declared that the “days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people” were “over.”
“I quickly fixed the Border (ZERO ILLEGALS in last 3 months!), D.C. is next!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT,” Trump said in the post.

Olympic gold medalists implicated in ski jumping drama that has Norway reeling
A ski jumping suit controversy engulfed Norway and led to charges against five members of the country’s team, including two gold medalists, the sport’s federation announced on Monday.
Marius Lindvik, Johann Andre Forfang, two coaches and a service staff member were charged as part of an investigation into “equipment manipulation” at the Nordic world championships in March, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) said.

Each person was charged with ethic violations over the alleged tampering. Illegally modified suits can help ski jumpers fly further with more aerodynamic resistance. Lindvik won a gold medal in the men’s normal hill event at the world championships, while Norway took home the bronze for the men’s team event on the large hill.
Both awards are in jeopardy.
The FIS gave no timetable for hearings or verdicts in the case. The governing body said that bans, fines and disqualifications of results are among the punishments that could be levied. The organization said it conducted interviews with 38 witnesses and examined 88 pieces of evidence in the case.
TRUMP SUGGESTS THERE WILL BE MANDATORY GENDER TESTING FOR WOMEN’S SPORTS AT 2028 LA OLYMPICS
Norway head coach Magnus Brevik and equipment manager Adrian Livelten previously confessed to the tampering, saying the suits were altered only before the men’s large hill event.
“We regret it like dogs, and I’m terribly sorry that this happened,” Brevik said in March.
Lindvik and Forfang were both on the team that took home the bronze medal in the world championships. The FIS disqualified both of them from the individual large hill event and were suspended. Both denied involvement in the alleged scheme.
It’s unclear what Lindvik and Forfang’s statuses will be for the 2026 Olympics in Italy.

Jon and Kate Gosselin’s son speaks out on how TV fame led to family fallout
Collin Gosselin claimed he and his siblings were “pitted against each other” during the filming of the hit show “Jon & Kate Plus 8.“
Collin, the son of reality TV stars Jon and Kate Gosselin, shared an emotional post on TikTok about what the spotlight did to his family. The lives of Jon, Kate and Collin along with Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah, Joel, Mady and Cara were featured in the TLC reality show from 2007 until 2017. “Born to be a team, us against the world,” he captioned a photo of himself with his seven siblings.
“Forced to do it alone, and wonder every day what our lives could’ve looked like.”
COLLIN GOSSELIN SAYS DREAMS OF JOINING MARINES DESTROYED BY INSTITUTIONALIZATION FORCED BY REALITY STAR MOM
“Forced apart, pitted against each other,” he continued. “All the fame and money in the world, but what about kids being kids?”
“I will always love them more than anything,” Collin added. “The tears I shed behind closed doors, thinking about the memories we could’ve shared. I love you guys.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Jon and Kate for comment.
Jon and his wife Kate Gosselin shot to fame after giving birth to sextuplets after having twins using intrauterine insemination. The couple signed on to do two documentaries about their large family in order to make ends meet, but their popularity turned the family into reality TV royalty. However, the couple eventually separated, then divorced, and it was all caught on camera.

Following his parents’ split, Collin began to act out and rebel during filming, sometimes giving “completely silent interviews” and refusing to interact.
Collin was allegedly diagnosed with a behavioral disorder and sent away to a separate school at the age of 12. Kate sent Collin to live at the Fairmount Behavioral Health System – a psychiatric hospital located in Philadelphia – without telling anyone in the family.
“I was not able, with my own resources here, to meet his needs,” Kate said during an episode of “Kate Plus 8.“

However, Collin later claimed that Kate sent him away because he was telling people about the way his mother was treating him at home, which he labeled “abusive.” He claimed that she had to put him “somewhere where [he] wouldn’t be able to put the secrets out” during an episode of Vice’s “Dark Side of the 2000s.”
In a 2016 interview with “Good Morning America,” Kate denied the abuse allegations, saying they were “absolutely” unfounded.
Collin told Vice he hadn’t spoken to at least six of his siblings since 2016. Jon also doesn’t have a relationship with the children outside of Collin and Hannah.
“At the end of the day, none of us decided to be on TV,” Collin explained.
“We didn’t get the choice. It was our parents’ decision,” Hannah added. “I don’t resent my parents for putting us on TV because I understand why they did it. It was a good opportunity, and it just turned into something nobody saw it turning into.”
