‘Largest bust this century’ eliminates illegal drug epicenter in Philadelphia
The FBI and federal prosecutors on Friday announced a “historic” indictment charging 33 alleged members of the Weymouth Street Drug Trafficking Organization accused of fueling Kensington’s open-air drug market for nearly a decade.
Officials said 24 defendants were arrested in coordinated operations Friday, eight were already in custody, and one remains at large. Authorities executed 11 federal search warrants, and results are pending.
At a Philadelphia news conference, FBI Director Kash Patel called the operation a model for reclaiming violent corridors from crews, praising years of collaboration between the FBI, Philadelphia Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“Today, even more criminals are off the streets because of the diligent work of the FBI and our partners,” FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital in an exclusive statement.
“Over 30 people have been charged for their alleged role in drug trafficking and dozens of other offenses. These individuals were charged with distributing fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine on one of the most prolific drug blocks in Philadelphia. They were members of a violent drug trafficking organization and used violence to enforce their territory and sell drugs that poison our city streets and community. The FBI will continue our work to put an end to drug trafficking and violence in our cities.”
SUSPECTED SINALOA CARTEL MEMBERS APPREHENDED IN 23-STATE SWEEP BY DEA
“This takedown is how you safeguard American cities from coast to coast,” Patel said. “We have permanently removed a drug trafficking organization off the streets of Philadelphia.”
U.S. Attorney David Metcalf said the case centers on the 3100 block of Weymouth Street in Kensington, a prolific stretch of the city’s open-air market. The indictment charges a conspiracy dating to January 2016 through October 2025 involving fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine and cocaine.
“It’s a massive drug-trafficking conspiracy spanning nearly a decade, the largest federal indictment this century brought by our district,” Metcalf said. “We targeted it like a precision missile at Kensington’s epicenter.”
Metcalf said 22 defendants were arrested during the sweep, while eight already in local custody will be transferred to federal court next week. Agents have recovered dozens of firearms and significant amounts of narcotics from alleged stash locations; totals will be detailed in court filings.
DEA MAKES MASS ARRESTS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE FENTANYL AND METH BUST TIED TO SINALOA CARTEL
Prosecutors said the organization was allegedly led by Jose Antonio Morales Nieves, 45, of Luquillo, Puerto Rico, known as ‘Flaco,’ who “essentially owned” the block and charged rent to other dealers; Ramon Roman-Montanez, 40, of Philadelphia, known as ‘Viejo,’ who managed daily operations and organized shifts; and Nancy Rios-Valentin, 33, of Philadelphia, who also oversaw finances and shift schedules.
The crew allegedly used violence to enforce its territory including shootings, murder and assaults and retaliated against witnesses who cooperated with law enforcement.
During a Q&A, officials said no substantive murder or shooting counts have been filed but the investigation continues.
FBI, LAPD BUST VIOLENT MEXICAN MAFIA-LINKED GANG: ‘THE ERA OF CARTELS IS OVER,’ KASH PATEL SAYS
FBI Special Agent in Charge Wayne Jacobs said the operation used nine tactical teams and involved hundreds of officers. Most arrests occurred in Kensington, with others in Puerto Rico, Delaware and New Jersey.
“For too long the Weymouth Street drug organization flooded Kensington with drugs and terrorized residents with horrific acts of violence and intimidation,” Jacobs said. “That ended today.”
He said the FBI will launch public-safety ads urging residents to share crime tips securely.
“Our job doesn’t end with these arrests,” Jacobs added. “We will remain here, standing with the people of Kensington.”
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said the case shows the city’s shift to treating open-air markets as an organized public-safety threat, not isolated street dealing.
“We’re not going to apologize for removing people who terrorize our community,” Bethel said. “This is the model we can keep running.”
Officials framed the case as part of PSN Recon, an offshoot of Project Safe Neighborhoods that merges federal, state and local intelligence to target violent offenders block-by-block. Metcalf said the group meets monthly to identify the most dangerous actors and pursue organization-level prosecutions instead of one-off gun or drug cases.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche added: “Drug traffickers who poison our communities and enforce their territory through violence will face the full force of federal law. Working alongside our state and local partners, the Department of Justice will continue to dismantle these criminal networks and restore safety to neighborhoods that have suffered for far too long.”
Patel closed by thanking investigators and line prosecutors who built the case. “You need courageous prosecutors to bring these cases,” he said. “This is exactly how you safeguard American lives. The blocks belong to the residents, not the drug dealers.”
“For the criminals that remain out there,” Metcalf warned, “the next indictment has a space with your name on it.”

Bill Maher shares what ‘bothers’ him about Trump’s White House renovations
“Real Time” host Bill Maher sounded the alarm on the “symbolism” behind President Donald Trump’s renovations to the White House and revealed what “bothers” him about the demolition of the East Wing.
“The symbolism is he’s not leaving,” the late-night host told his panel on Friday. “Who puts in a giant ballroom if you’re leaving?”
On Friday, the East Wing, where guests and tourists entered for events, was demolished.
Trump’s plan to construct a 90,000-square-foot ballroom is estimated to cost $300 million, which he says is privately funded by himself, several major tech companies and “many generous patriots.”
CHELSEA CLINTON RIPS TRUMP’S ‘DISREGARD FOR HISTORY’ WITH WHITE HOUSE BALLROOM CONSTRUCTION
Although Maher objected to Trump’s demolition, he sparred with former RNC chairman Michael Steele over whether the White House is “just a building.”
“We watched this week the destruction of a symbol of this government,” Steele lamented. “Of our democracy, of our pluralistic society.”
“You’re talking about the White House?” Maher countered. “Oh, it’s a building, Mike.”
“Okay, Bill, it’s a building maybe to you, but to a lot of Americans it’s not,” the MSNBC political analyst argued.
DEMOCRATS, LIBERAL MEDIA FIGURES FUME OVER TRUMP DEMOLISHING WHITE HOUSE EAST WING FOR BALLROOM
Steele went on to call the White House his “childhood,” describing what it meant to him as he grew up in Washington, D.C.
“I’m going to tell you as a young kid growing up in D.C., when my daddy took me by ‘that building,’ it meant something to me as a 10-year-old,” he continued.
“It meant something to me to grow up in a town where everybody in this country came and protested and cried and screamed and laughed,” Steele said. “And I was a part of that. So that building, to me, was my childhood.”
WHITE HOUSE RESPONDS TO REPORTS TRUMP NAMED NEW BALLROOM AFTER HIMSELF
Steele then said that Trump tore the East Wing down “without accountability.” The late-night host said he agreed with Steele on that.
“You know, he should have gotten the permits, but that’s how he does things,” Maher contended. “I agree, but it is just a building, first of all.”
“That part of the building wasn’t always there,” he continued. “Presidents do change the buildings. Nixon put in a bowling alley. Obama made the tennis court a basketball court. I can’t get this mad about everything, Mike. I just can’t.”
Steele’s fellow panelist, former Biden White House communications director Kate Bedingfield, weighed in on the dispute.
“If this was the only impulsive, reckless, you know driven by his own desire for self-aggrandizement, if this was only the only thing he had done on that front, then I would give you it’s just a building,” Bedingfield conceded.
“But it’s not. It’s part of a manner of governing that is tearing at some of the foundations, the institutional foundations in this country,” she argued. “And that’s scary.”

Similar to his panelists, the late-night host warned that Trump is “drunk with power” at another point in the show.
“What could President Trump not do?” Maher asked.
Royal family delivers rare punishment to Prince Andrew in latest humiliation: expert
Prince Andrew‘s crest and banner being removed from Windsor Castle is another “nail in the coffin” for the disgraced royal, according to experts.
Buckingham Palace confirmed to Fox News Digital that Andrew’s flag, which featured his coat of arms, was removed after he forfeited his title and any honors that came with it earlier this month.
British royals expert Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that this move by the palace is further humiliation for Andrew.
“Andrew’s further shame and humiliation … Another nail in the coffin. His status truly diminished. The royal family are further cutting ties with Andrew to protect the monarchy. He is slowly being banished!”
PRINCE ANDREW SCORES VICTORY OVER KING CHARLES IN ROYAL LODGE BATTLE: REPORT
She continued, “It will have been taken down to prevent further public outcry and a sign that there is a moral code and no-nonsense policy within the royal family. This will cut deep with Andrew as his dear mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, is laid to rest in the crypt, St George’s Chapel. The chapel was his sanctuary and solace.”
“Andrew’s further shame and humiliation… Another nail in the coffin. His status truly diminished.”
The Sun reported that the removal of a banner from Windsor Castle is reserved for cases of high treason or rebellions against the Crown.
PRINCE ANDREW GIVES UP ROYAL TITLE WITH KING CHARLES’ SUPPORT
“Removal is really exceptionally rare action and absolutely ghastly for him, reserved for most serious breaches for indeed high treason or rebellion against the Crown, real rarity in royal history,” royal expert Hilary Fordwich said.
“It’s not just symbolic but a substantial way the royal family is determined to now distance themselves from him, driven by Prince William,” she claimed.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital that Andrew is “perhaps lucky” that his banner was removed from St. George’s Chapel.
“Andrew is perhaps lucky to have his banner bearing his coat of arms removed from St. George’s Chapel, the spiritual home of Britain’s most prestigious order of chivalry quietly,” Fitzwilliams noted, comparing it to the way it was done “in past centuries.”

On Oct. 17, Andrew released a statement shortly after excerpts were published from a posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre, who has alleged she was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and had sex with Andrew when she was 17.
“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” a statement released by the royal, and obtained by Fox News Digital, read. “I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”
“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further,” the statement continued. “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

US military signs deal for game-changing affordable weapon
U.S. defense startup Castelion announced on Friday it will integrate its affordable, long-range, hypersonic strike weapons with operational Army and Navy platforms.
Under the recently signed contract agreement, Castelion will work with both military branches to integrate its hypersonic “Blackbeard” weapon system onto operational platforms and participate in live-fire tests.
The company said the new weapon technology will advance the Department of War’s effort to evaluate and accelerate new, cost-effective strike capabilities for conventional deterrence.

“These integration contracts validate that affordability and speed are critical to modern deterrence,” Castelion CEO Bryon Hargis wrote in a statement. “Castelion leads the market designing for manufacturability and rapid iteration, enabling the Department of War to move faster from concept to capability.”
“Blackbeard” is Castelion’s first long-range, hypersonic strike weapon, designed for mass production and rapid fielding once integration and testing are complete.
HOWARD LUTNICK RIPS ATLANTA FED GDPNOW CONTRACTION PREDICTION
The system uses integrated propulsion and guidance technology to deliver high performance at a fraction of the cost of older weapons, which the company said supports the War Department’s goal of creating a large-scale, credible non-nuclear deterrent.
Castelion, which was founded just three years ago, is headquartered in Torrance, California, with additional facilities in Texas.
The company’s first weapon system, “Blackbeard,” went from “blank sheet design” to more than 20 developmental test flights in less than 18 months, which Castelion said demonstrates its leadership in rapid, scalable weapons development.

In May, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon was working to stay ahead of China amid an arms race with the communist country and adversaries like Russia and Iran.
Hegseth told Fox News host Will Cain the Pentagon was building up a U.S. military that could deter future conflict between the two nations.

“We don’t want that conflict. But we’re going to do that by being as strong as possible to meet their threat at every turn.”
Newsom gives Planned Parenthood $140 million amid Trump funding cuts
California officials are giving Planned Parenthood $140 million to keep 109 clinics open and offset the financial strain from cuts imposed by Republicans in Washington, Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom announced.
Newsom said the move affirms the state’s continued commitment to abortion access for women in the Golden State amid efforts by President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans to shut down Planned Parenthood.
“California is a reproductive freedom state, and this latest investment continues to show our belief in protecting access to essential health care in times of distress,” Newsom said in a statement on Thursday. “Trump’s efforts to defund Planned Parenthood put all our communities at risk as people seek basic health care from these community providers.”
State lawmakers will also address the issue when the legislature reconvenes in January.
APPEALS COURT HEARS MEDICAID FRAUD CASE THAT COULD COST PLANNED PARENTHOOD $1.8 BILLION
Planned Parenthood had announced it would eliminate primary care at clinics in Orange and San Bernardino counties starting in December. Five other clinics in the Bay Area, Santa Cruz and Central Valley, also shuttered in recent months over federal efforts to defund the organization.
Dr. Janet Jacobson, medical director of the Orange and San Bernardino counties clinics, told CalMatters the federal actions are “destroying our primary care program.”
“It’s inhumane to take away people’s health care,” Jacobson said. “Folks that have Medi-Cal should be able to see the provider of their choice for primary care.”
Planned Parenthood needs about $27 million a month to operate all its local facilities, Jodi Hicks, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, told CalMatters.
“The Planned Parenthood affiliates in California are grateful to Governor Newsom and our allies in the Legislature for taking this necessary step to keep Planned Parenthood health centers open and able to provide critical services as they weather the impacts of the federal defund,” Hicks said in a statement.
California is the fourth state to allocate public funds to support Planned Parenthood, joining Washington, Colorado and New Mexico. Lawmakers in Oregon and New York are also considering giving public money to the organization.
DEMOCRATS ESCALATE ANTI-TRUMP LAWFARE BY TARGETING CONGRESS IN PLANNED PARENTHOOD FUNDING FIGHT
Republicans in the nation’s capital and across the country have targeted Planned Parenthood over abortion services. Trump’s spending bill signed over the summer prohibited Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid money for its services, including abortions, mammograms, pap smears, birth control and sexually transmitted infection testing.
Facilities in GOP-led states with abortion restrictions have also been forced to cease the procedures following the 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe V. Wade and returned the power to make laws regarding abortion back to the states.
Planned Parenthood facilities have been shuttering in various states across the country, including California and New York. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte — which operates 30 health centers along the California coast, Central Valley and Nevada — shuttered five health centers in July after Trump blocked Planned Parenthood’s funding.
Mar Monte Chief of Staff Andrew Adams said the organization is working on ways to maintain its financial stability. Adams said the closures helped keep services at the organization’s other clinics until the end of the year but that it could be met with a “financial cliff” in the new year.
PRO-LIFE GROUP ‘ELATED’ AFTER PLANNED PARENTHOOD SHUTTERS HOUSTON FACILITIES: ‘TREMENDOUS VICTORY’
“We are planning for an environment where there is no federal funding,” Adams told CalMatters. “What that looks like is having to potentially charge patients some amount of money for services we provide.”
The organization has claimed that abortions make up only 3% of its services, but pro-life groups contend that the clinics’ closures in states with abortion bans prove that to be false.

“If that were true, they wouldn’t be closing all these facilities in pro-life states where you can’t do abortions. So that’s hardly believable anymore in 2025,” 40 Days for Life CEO and founder Shawn Carney told Fox News Digital in August.
Newsom, California lawmakers and Planned Parenthood have spent much of the year searching for a solution to keep the organization afloat without federal dollars, according to CalMatters.
But with a multibillion-dollar state deficit, that has been a challenging goal.

Still, not everyone was on board with the new campaign. Jenner drew criticism earlier this month after posting a short Instagram clip showing her walking handcuffed down a jail hallway surrounded by officers as part of a promo for the King Kylie relaunch.
Some social media users called the imagery “out of touch,” pointing to ongoing ICE raids and protests across the country and saying the video felt tone-deaf amid renewed conversations about law enforcement.

‘Planet killer’ asteroid discovered racing through solar system at near record speed
Astronomers have reportedly discovered a skyscraper-sized asteroid moving through our solar system at a near record-breaking pace.
The asteroid, named 2025 SC79, circles the sun once every 128 days, making it the second-fastest known asteroid orbiting in the solar system.
It was first observed by Carnegie Science astronomer Scott S. Sheppard Sept. 27, according to a statement from Carnegie Science.
UFO MANIA GRIPS SMALL TOWN AFTER MYSTERIOUS GLOWING OBJECT SIGHTING GOES VIRAL
The asteroid is the second known object with an orbit inside Venus, the statement said. It crosses Mercury’s orbit during its 128-day trip around the sun.
“Many of the solar system’s asteroids inhabit one of two belts of space rocks, but perturbations can send objects careening into closer orbits where they can be more challenging to spot,” Sheppard said. “Understanding how they arrived at these locations can help us protect our planet and also help us learn more about solar system history.”
The celestial body is now traveling behind the sun and will be invisible to telescopes for several months.
HARVARD PHYSICIST SAYS MYSTERIOUS INTERSTELLAR OBJECT COULD BE NUCLEAR-POWERED SPACESHIP
Sheppard’s search for so-called “twilight” asteroids helps identify objects that could pose a risk of crashing into Earth, the statement said.
The work, which is partially funded by NASA, uses the Dark Energy Camera on the National Science Foundation’s Blanco 4-meter telescope to look for “planet killer” asteroids in the glare of the sun that could pose a danger to Earth.
The NSF’s Gemini telescope and Carnegie Science’s Magellan telescopes were used to confirm the sighting of 2025 SC79, Carnegie Science said.
The fastest known asteroid was also discovered by Sheppard, who studies solar system objects including moons, dwarf planets and asteroids. and his colleagues in 2021.

Scientists find ‘measurable links’ between drink temperature and anxiety levels
Whether it’s hot chocolate or iced coffee, the temperature of drinks — and when you drink them — may influence your mood, according to researchers.
A new study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, was shared in a San Diego State University news release on Sept. 22. Over 400 American adults were involved, all of whom were Asian or White.
“Researchers found food and beverage temperature, long recognized in traditional Asian medicine, has measurable links to anxiety, insomnia and gut discomfort,” SDSU said in the release.
SCIENTISTS REVEAL HOW YOUR FAVORITE SODA COULD QUIETLY MESS WITH YOUR MOOD
Drinking more cold beverages during warmer months was associated with “increased anxiety, more sleep disturbances and greater feelings of abdominal fullness” among Asian participants, according to the study.
The White participants, however, reported less depression, enhanced sleep quality and fewer gastrointestinal problems when they drank hot beverages in winter.
Researchers attribute the differing patterns largely to cultural consumption habits and individual temperature sensitivity — stronger effects among participants with “cold hands” — with notable variation within Asian subgroups. They emphasize that the results show correlations, not causation, and are based on self-reported data.
“This is the first study in the U.S. to directly link cold and hot dietary consumption to multiple health outcomes, with important implications for addressing rising rates of anxiety, insomnia and digestive issues,” SDSU’s statement added.

Tianying Wu, an associate professor of epidemiology at SDSU, said the research “provides a snapshot of how hot and cold consumption may relate to health outcomes.”
Wu added, “Because cold and hot consumption is such a routine part of daily life in the U.S., at home and in restaurants, the findings have broad relevance to everyday health choices.”
“The next step is to conduct more rigorous prospective and intervention studies, since the effects can be dynamic — for example, older adults or individuals with poor circulation may be especially vulnerable to cold exposure.”

Jessica Mack, a wellness expert and occupational therapist, told Fox News Digital that consuming warm foods and beverages “can have a measurable impact on the body’s stress response.”
The New York-based therapist said warmth may help activate the parasympathetic nervous system — the part responsible for relaxation — and could influence the release of mood-regulating chemicals such as serotonin.
Mack, who was not involved with the study, also said warm beverages can “stimulate the vagus nerve, which helps lower heart rate and promote a sense of calm.”

“The increase in body temperature can also enhance circulation and trigger the release of feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin,” Mack added.
“Psychologically, warmth is associated with safety and comfort, so something as simple as sipping tea or eating a warm bowl of soup can help the body and mind shift out of fight-or-flight mode. It’s a small sensory cue with a big calming effect.”
The SDSU research was published shortly after another study found that cups of coffee may boost mood in the morning.
The study followed 200 young adults over four weeks.
