Trump says Chicago crime plummeted despite ‘resistance’ from Democrat leaders
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that violent crime in Chicago has fallen sharply since the start of a federal crackdown known as “Operation Midway Blitz,” crediting the Department of Homeland Security-led effort with driving shootings and robberies down across the Windy City.
The president’s Truth Social post claimed that shootings are down 35%, robberies down 41% and carjackings nearly 50% since the operation began several weeks ago.
“This has been achieved despite the extraordinary resistance from Chicago and Illinois Radical Democrat leadership,” Trump wrote.
The post marks the president’s first public update on the initiative since late October, when DHS confirmed nine arrests, including three illegal immigrants, following what officials described as “one of the most violent days” of the operation.
DHS ‘BLITZES’ CHICAGOLAND, NETTING ‘MANY ARRESTS’ AS NOEM ONSITE FOR IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN
According to DHS statements obtained by Fox News Digital, agents faced multiple assaults and vehicle rammings during coordinated Oct. 22 raids in the Chicago suburbs of Cicero and Glendale Heights.
DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin called it “one of the most violent days we’ve had,” confirming that one agent was injured and several patrol units were damaged. The raids targeted violent offenders and previously deported foreign nationals with criminal records.
The operation’s namesake honors Katie Abraham, a Chicago-area resident killed in September in a hit-and-run involving a suspected illegal immigrant.
DHS MARKS ‘ONE OF THE MOST VIOLENT DAYS’ OF OPERATION MIDWAY BLITZ WITH SEVERAL ARRESTS
“Midway Blitz,” launched in September, is part of a broader DHS initiative aimed at “criminal illegal aliens terrorizing Americans in sanctuary Illinois,” according to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who said suspects who attacked agents “will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Trump’s post also reignited tensions with Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, both of whom have previously opposed large-scale immigration raids. The president accused them of obstructing enforcement and “encouraging violent resistance against ICE officers.”
HUNDREDS OF FEDERAL AGENTS IN CHICAGO CARRY OUT OPERATION TARGETING SUSPECTED TREN DE ARAGUA GANG MEMBERS
Trump said the next phase of “Midway Blitz” will include a “full surge” of federal agents in Chicago and Memphis, claiming the first wave has already delivered measurable results.
“As we ramp up more assets, these numbers will continue to drop,” he wrote Tuesday.

China’s engineering marvel turns to dust as newly opened bridge plunges into gorge
A massive bridge at a hydropower station in southwest China collapsed Tuesday, sending concrete and steel plunging into a river just months after it opened, according to Chinese state media.
Reuters reported that an official from Barkam County confirmed the collapse to the Chinese state-run Global Times, saying no casualties had been reported.
The report added that cracks were detected a day earlier on the bridge’s road surface and slope, prompting authorities to impose temporary traffic controls.
Footage of the collapse, shared widely on Chinese social media, showed the Hongqi Bridge in Sichuan Province buckling before falling into the river below, kicking up a massive cloud of dust.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. local time near the G317 national highway, according to China Central Television (CCTV) News.
Local transportation and public security bureaus said the right-bank slope of the bridge showed signs of deformation Monday afternoon, just hours before the collapse.
Authorities quickly shut down the structure to all traffic and issued a public notice warning of potential safety risks.

According to Times Now, the Hongqi Bridge was located in Sichuan Province’s mountainous Maerkang area and completed earlier this year as part of the G317 national highway—an important route connecting central China to Tibet.
The 758-meter-long, cantilevered two-lane beam bridge stood roughly 625 meters above the gorge floor, with piers reaching up to 172 meters in height. It was built by the state-backed Sichuan Road & Bridge Group as part of efforts to expand access to the Tibetan Plateau.

The bridge’s construction was part of a broader government push to improve connectivity and spur economic growth across western China’s rugged terrain, Times Now reported.
It was intended to serve as a symbol of the country’s infrastructure ambitions but had only reopened to traffic a few months before the collapse—marking a short-lived chapter for what was meant to showcase China’s engineering progress.

State-run outlets have not yet identified the cause of the collapse, though early assessments suggest geological instability may have played a role. No vehicles or pedestrians were on the bridge at the time, officials said, and investigations are underway.
Gymnastics star implies decision to rescind her Olympic medal was related to racism
U.S. Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles opened up about her thoughts on whether racism was a factor in the decision that led to her bronze medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics being rescinded.
During an interview on the “Baby, this is Keke Palmer” podcast, Chiles was asked if she “accepted” that she had “experienced racism” after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned a score change that placed Chiles third on the women’s floor exercise medal podium, and knocking her down to fifth place.
“At first, I didn’t think of it in that way until I started almost literally getting racist comments and saying this and saying that and basically telling like people were telling me to kill myself and it got to a really, really tough point,” Chiles said in response.

Chiles was awarded third on the first ever women’s gymnastics Olympic podium that included three Black medalists, alongside U.S. teammate Simone Biles and Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade. Chiles now says that the “all-Black” podium was something that “people don’t like.”
“I had to get off of social media for a while. Because it was, you know, it was really hard to even see that, as an athlete, like, let alone an athlete, I’m up, there, yes, it’s an ‘all-Black’ podium, which is very rare, it’s obviously something that people don’t like.
“As being a woman of color, I started seeing it more. They didn’t want to see that, they didn’t want to see three beautiful Black women standing on that podium. They didn’t want to see the fact that we were just dominating. And I really took that to heart.”
Romania’s Ana Barbosu initially finished with a higher score than Chiles once the American finished her routine.
MYKAYLA SKINNER OPENS UP ON JOINING ‘SAVE WOMEN’S SPORTS’ MOVEMENT AFTER SIMONE BILES FEUD
At the end of the floor exercise final at the summer games in August, Barbosu clinched third place and a spot on the podium after judging initially finished. Barbosu was visibly thrilled when she saw the final scores.
But then, a U.S. coach spoke to the judges and appealed the scoring on one of Chiles’ moves. After review, Chiles’ score was bumped up, putting the American in third place, and leaving Barbosu off the podium. When Barbosu looked up and saw the scoring change on the board, she dropped the Romanian flag she was holding, covered her face with her hands and walked away in tears.
Chiles went on to accept the bronze medal and join Biles and Andrade on the podium.
Then, on the last day of the Olympics, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the Chiles appeal was submitted past the one-minute deadline, and changed her score to drop her back into fifth place. The next day, on Aug. 11, 2024, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) determined that Chiles must return the medal.
Chiles previously claimed she was facing “racially driven attacks” from social media users in a statement posted to X.
In her first sit-down interview after the incident occurred, she made similar comments.
“To me, everything that has gone on is not about the medal, it’s about, you know, my skin color,” Chiles said in a September 2024 interview during a panel at the Forbes Power Women’s Summit.
The controversy brought international scrutiny upon the judges who scored the event. CAS and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) released a joint statement condemning the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the judging crew for the outcome.
“If the FIG had put such a mechanism or arrangement in place, a great deal of heartache would have been avoided,” the CAS’ ad-hoc panel said in a release. “The Panel expresses the hope that the FIG will draw the consequences of this case, in relation to these three extraordinary Athletes and also for other Athletes and their supporting personnel, in the future, so that this never happens again.”
US WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS TEAM WINS FEWEST MEDALS AT A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SINCE 2001
Chiles and Team USA are currently involved in an appeal against the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for its decision.
Chiles’ lawyers have argued that her coach did in fact make the request in time and that there is video evidence to prove it, and have also indicated that the official who made the decision to strip Chiles’ medal had ties to Romania.
Chiles has also filed an appeal in the Swiss Federal Supreme Court to overturn the CAS decision. She argued that she was not given a fair opportunity to defend herself and that the CAS did not properly consider video evidence.
Barbosu received her bronze medal shortly after the Olympics ended, and expressed sympathy for her American opponent, as well as a Romanian teammate, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, whose finish was also impacted by the back-and-forth scoring change.
“I can’t help but think about Sabrina and Jordan right now,” Barbosu said in a statement. “It’s a difficult situation for us, with so many uncertainties and overwhelming emotions. I hope everyone understands that we have not done anything wrong at the Olympics. And that the Olympic spirit is more important than any misunderstanding between the authorities.

SEE IT: Student charged after allegedly hurling slurs at Barstool’s Dave Portnoy
A now-former Mississippi State University student has been charged with disturbing the peace after allegedly shouting an antisemitic slur at Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy during a video shoot in Starkville, officials said.
Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Patrick McClintock, who was captured on video yelling “F— the Jews” at Portnoy outside a Starkville pizza shop on Friday, Nov. 7.
According to the Starkville Police Department, officers were notified that day about a viral video appearing to show an individual making antisemitic remarks and throwing coins toward another person outside a local business. The department launched an investigation and issued a warrant over the weekend.
On Monday, Nov. 10, McClintock was charged with disturbing the peace, a misdemeanor offense covering public disturbances or behavior that risks violence. He was later processed and released.

“Every person has the right to feel safe and respected in our community,” the Starkville Police Department said in a statement. “Offensive words alone are protected, but when behavior disrupts a public event or risks violence, we will take steps to help maintain safety and security.”
The incident occurred as Portnoy, who is Jewish, was filming one of his “One Bite” pizza reviews. In the video, a man can be heard shouting, “Hey, f— the Jews, f— you, Dave,” as Portnoy’s camera rolled.
Portnoy responded, “Why don’t you come in the camera, buddy?” Moments later, McClintock appeared to glare at him and shout, “Get the f— out of Starkville,” before witnesses and security intervened.

“He said, ‘F— the Jews,’ and threw s— at me,” Portnoy said afterward, according to video shared online.
Mississippi allows enhanced penalties for crimes motivated by bias or discrimination, and authorities said the case remains under investigation.
Following public backlash, Mississippi State University confirmed to Fox News Digital that McClintock voluntarily withdrew from the university on Monday afternoon.

The incident comes amid a broader rise in antisemitic incidents nationwide, which Portnoy addressed in a separate CBS News interview. He told CBS Sunday Morning co-host Tony Dokoupil that there has been a “definitive shift” in antisemitism and that he now faces hatred “every day.”
“I’ve seen in my own experience, just being Barstool, the difference between how much hate I get,” Portnoy said. “I mean, occasionally you get a k— or Jew or whatever. It’s every day now. Like there’s a definitive shift in what’s going on.”

‘Don’t do drugs’: Michael Jackson’s daughter shows permanent damage from abuse
Paris Jackson is getting brutally honest about the damage her past drug use caused.
The 27-year-old daughter of the late Michael Jackson stunned fans after she showed off a “perforated septum” in a candid TikTok video.
“I have a really loud whistle when I breathe through my nose,” Jackson said in the clip as she pointed her phone’s flashlight up her nose. “And that is because I have what is called a perforated septum,” she explained, noting it’s “slightly different from a deviated septum.”

The “American Horror Stories” actress admitted that her past drug use “ruined my life.”
She said she “didn’t recommend” taking drugs.
Jackson told fans she’s now six years sober but still lives with the consequences.
She further explained she has no plans to undergo surgery to fix her nose because “you have to take pills when you have a surgery that gnarly.”
Jackson said she’s had the condition since she was 20 — and that it can interfere with her music career.

Former president boards plane full of veterans and leaves them speechless
Former President Barack Obama surprised a group of veterans in a heartfelt moment after they touched down on a flight into Washington, D.C., ahead of Veterans Day to visit memorials honoring their fellow service members.
Obama boarded the plane just before the group of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans were about to disembark for their tour, and he took to the plane’s intercom to thank them for their sacrifice in serving the country.
“Hello, everybody,” Obama said from the front of the plane, drawing gasps from the veterans who had traveled from Madison, Wisconsin. The interior of the plane was filled with American flags and red, white and blue streamers.

“What!” exclaimed one person, while another veteran in a red cap and jacket could be seen in disbelief with his mouth wide open. The emotional greeting was captured in a video posted to Obama’s X account.
“As we approach Veterans Day, I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for your extraordinary service,” the former president continued as the veterans looked on in astonishment.
“To you, your family — the sacrifices that you all made to protect our country is something that will always be honored, and we are very grateful,” he added.
Obama could then be seen shaking hands with every veteran as they exited the aircraft at Reagan National Airport, presenting each with a presidential challenge coin — a tradition in which presidents give coins as a symbol of appreciation for service or contributions to the nation.
THIS VETERANS DAY, LET’S DO MORE THAN JUST SAY ‘THANK YOU’ TO OUR NATION’S HEROES
“Ahead of Veterans Day, I was honored to welcome a flight of veterans and their families as they arrived in D.C.,” Obama said in the X post.
“To all those who bravely served our country, thank you to you and your family for your extraordinary service,” he added. “The sacrifices that all of you made to protect our country will be honored today and every day.”
The veterans were aboard a flight organized by Honor Flight, a nonprofit launched in 2005 that provides free trips to Washington, D.C., memorials for veterans. The group operates in 46 states, has transported more than 300,000 veterans and is funded entirely by donations and volunteers, according to its website.
The veterans were met at the arrivals gate by streams of well-wishers.
“I had tears in my eyes,” said Army veteran Joe Parr. “I just couldn’t believe that there were that many people around who remembered us and were there to greet us. It was just unbelievable.”
Capt. Mary Quigley, a U.S. Navy veteran and volunteer, said it was the first time she had seen a president greet one of the flights.
“A leader who’s going to show up and tell you that your service was worth something — I think that’s the important part — so I think it was a great thing,” Quigley said.
Quigley said it was important that veterans are welcomed and acknowledged for their sacrifice, noting that many who returned home from past wars weren’t offered the same ovation.
“Back then, you got off the plane, and you had no welcome, and people were almost booing you,” said U.S. Army veteran Greg Adkins.

U.S. Navy veteran Nels Swenson echoed those sentiments.
“I’m real happy that now, with current troops, they come back from deployments and they get welcomed back really nicely — because that’s what should happen,” Swenson said. “So it’s being recreated in this flight. It makes me feel good.”
Seventy-nine veterans and their families made the trip, according to reports.
GOP lawmaker tightens screws on Mamdani to force his hand on key promise on Day 1
A Republican New York City councilwoman is putting one of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s campaign promises to the test by inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the city on Jan. 1 in an apparent challenge to Mamdani’s call to have the Jewish leader arrested.
Inna Vernikov, who represents the city’s 48th District, which encompasses a heavy Jewish population in southern Brooklyn, posted a letter on X on Tuesday inviting Netanyahu to New York City on the day Mamdani takes office.
The International Criminal Court (ICC), which the United States does not recognize, issued an arrest warrant in 2024 for Netanyahu over alleged “war crimes” in Gaza.
On the campaign trail, Mamdani has suggested he will arrest Netanyahu if the Jewish leader entered the city under his tenure.
MAMDANI’S TOP INCOMING AIDE WAS ‘CHIEF ARCHITECT’ OF RADICAL PROPOSAL OVERHAULING NYPD
“In recent months, there have been irresponsible and frankly absurd statements made by Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who has campaigned on the promise of ‘arresting’ you upon setting foot in our city,” Vernikov, who is Jewish, wrote in her letter to Netanyahu.
“Whether individuals agree or disagree with your policies, you are the duly elected Prime Minister of the State of Israel: a democratic nation that stands as a beacon of hope, freedom, western values, resilience, and strength in a region surrounded by tyranny and terror.”
Fox News Digital reached out to the Mamdani campaign and Netanyahu’s office for comment.
BANK OF AMERICA CEO SEEKS ‘IMPORTANT’ MEETING WITH MAMDANI, SAYS NYC’S SUCCESS VITAL TO COMPANY
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Vernikov said, “From ‘free’ buses to arresting Bibi Netanyahu, all of Mamdani’s ideas are fantasies from a utopian pipe dream that will never become reality. The spoiled kids who voted for him are going to realize very quickly that Zohran Mamdani is a scam.”
Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., told the New York Times earlier this year that Mamdani’s proposal was “simply unrealistic.”
“The City of New York has no jurisdiction to do such a thing,” Nadler, a supporter of Mamdani, added.
Mamdani was convincingly elected mayor of New York City last week after bursting onto the political scene earlier in the year and was able to overcome heavy criticism from the Jewish community over his stances and statements related to Israel.

In late October, more than 650 rabbis signed onto a letter condemning Mamdani’s positions on Israel that were labeled antisemitic by many of his critics.
“New Yorkers have spoken, electing Zohran Mamdani as the next Mayor of New York City. We recognize that voters are animated by a range of issues, but we cannot ignore that the Mayor-elect holds core beliefs fundamentally at odds with our community’s deepest convictions and most cherished values,” The UJA-Federation of New York, JCRC-NY, ADL New York/New Jersey, AJC New York and the New York Board of Rabbis said in a joint statement after Mamdani’s victory.
Since being elected, Mamdani has attempted to reassure skeptics in the Jewish community.
“We will build a City Hall that stands steadfast alongside Jewish New Yorkers and does not waver in the fight against the scourge of antisemitism,” Mamdani said on election night, adding the next day that he takes the issue of antisemtisim “incredibly seriously.”
Sydney Sweeney reveals super ‘strict’ method behind rapid 30-pound weight loss
Sydney Sweeney revealed how she lost more than 30 pounds in seven weeks following the filming of her new movie, “Christy.”
The 28-year-old actress underwent a dramatic physical transformation and trained intensely to play the legendary boxer Christy Martin in the biographical sports drama. But afterward, she had a short turnaround to lose the excess weight before filming her upcoming movie, “The Housemaid,” and the third season of her hit HBO series “Euphoria.”
During a new interview with People magazine, Sweeney explained how she quickly shed the pounds.

“I had to be really strict with myself,” she said.
“When I was training, it was really hard to put on all the weight. I was eating so much food. Like, everything you could possibly imagine,” Sweeney continued. “And then I was downing protein shake after protein shake and taking a lot of creatine, which just makes you bloat.”
The “White Lotus” star told the outlet that she “stopped all of that” to achieve the leaner physique required for the two roles.
“When you stop working out and taking all your protein shakes, you lose muscle super fast,” Sweeney noted. “It’s the first thing to go before fat. So that, I dropped within two weeks.”
Sweeney shared that she adhered to a “super clean” diet and did “a lot of cardio” during the limited window before production on the projects began.
The actress said that her intense preparations for “Christy” might be “the one and only” time that she undergoes a major physical transformation for a role.
However, she said that she was fortunate that her “metabolism works really well.”

While Sweeney explained that dropping the weight quickly wasn’t “super easy,” she noted that she’s “been a very active person my entire life.”
“Like, I was a super active kid, and I’ve always kind of just stayed active and always had a good metabolism,” Sweeney added. “I can gain weight, but I can lose it too.”
In September, Sweeney shared details of her transformation for “Christy.”

The film also explores Martin’s troubled relationship with her boxing trainer and husband, Jim Martin (Ben Foster). Their marriage involved codependency, drug abuse, financial scandal, and physical and psychological violence. Martin’s tale is also one of survival as she narrowly escaped with her life after Jim attempted to murder her in 2010.
“Christy” premiered in theaters on Nov. 7. “The Housemaid,” which co-stars Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, will be released theatrically on Dec. 19. The third season of “Euphoria” is expected to debut in the spring of 2026.
Top Democrat’s own daughter publicly opposes her on shutdown deal
The Senate deal to end the longest federal government shutdown in the nation’s history is not only dividing Democrats, it’s also causing a split in one well-known political family.
Democratic congressional candidate Stefany Shaheen, who’s running in a crowded primary for a Democrat-controlled open House seat in swing state New Hampshire, says she “cannot support” the agreement, which was brokered in part by her mother, Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.
The elder Shaheen, a former governor who is retiring next year rather than seek re-election to a fourth six-year term in the Senate, was one of seven Democrats who voted with Republicans on Monday evening to end the shutdown.
The split between the mother and daughter underscores the divide in their party over ending the shutdown without firmer commitments from the Republicans who control Congress.
SHUTDOWN SHOWDOWN: DEMOCRATIC SENATOR STANDS FIRM AFTER DEFYING PARTY
Stefany Shaheen, in a social media post on Monday, said she would only support a deal if it included extending the expiring subsidies that make health insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act, known as the ACA or Obamacare, more affordable to millions of Americans.
The deal to end the shutdown does not include such a provision, but only a promise by the majority Republicans to hold an upcoming vote on extending the subsidies.
SCHUMER FACES FURY FROM THE LEFT OVER DEAL TO END SHUTDOWN
“We need to both end this shutdown and extend the ACA tax credits,” Stefany Shaheen wrote. “Otherwise, no deal. It’s essential to ensure people have access to healthcare and it’s past time to put paychecks back into people’s pockets and food back on families’ tables.”
The younger Shaheen, whose eldest daughter Elle nearly lost her life after being diagnosed at the age of 8 with Type 1 diabetes, emphasized, “Improving health care has been the cause of my life. It’s why I am running for congress.”
And pointing to a lack of commitment from Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson to hold any vote on extending the ACA subsidies, Shaheen added, “I cannot support this deal when Speaker Johnson refuses to even allow a vote to extend health care tax credits.”
The ACA subsidies expire at the end of the year, with health insurance premiums set to surge if there’s no extension.
Sen. Shaheen, who previously supported a bill to extend the subsidies, on Monday defended breaking with her party to support the deal, which has been heavily criticized not only by the progressive wing of the party but also by center-left Democrats.
“We’re making sure that the people of America can get the food benefits that they need, that air traffic controllers can get paid, that federal workers are able to come back, the ones who were let go, that they get paid, that contractors get paid, that aviation moves forward,” Shaheen said in a “Fox and Friends” interview.
And she pledged that “we are going to be able to continue to fight about healthcare because we’re going to have a vote in December.”
Asked about her split with her mother over the shutdown deal, Stefany Shaheen told WMUR in New Hampshire that “every family has differences of opinion and views, and here, we just have very different views about the best way to approach this.”
“I think my mom and Senator Hassan did what they believe was right,” she said. She also pointed to New Hampshire’s other Democrat in the Senate, Sen. Maggie Hassan, who also supported the deal.
The senator told WMUR that she and her daughter “talk every day. So, she knew where I was, and I knew where she was.”
And the senator, who is a top supporter of her daughter’s bid for Congress, added, “Stefany is very independent. That’s what’s going to make her an excellent congresswoman.”

The younger Shaheen is one of seven Democrats running in New Hampshire’s First Congressional District, in the race to succeed Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas.
