Train attack victim identified as Sean Duffy faults blue city’s soft crime stance
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy identified the woman set on fire aboard a Chicago train as 26-year-old Bethany MaGee, who suffered severe burns in the attack.
Duffy blasted the city’s lax crime policies, saying the attack, allegedly carried out by a career criminal with 72 prior arrests, never should have happened.
“It is devastating that a career criminal with 72 PRIOR ARRESTS is now accused of attacking 26-year-old Bethany MaGee on Chicago’s L train and setting her on fire,” Duffy said on X. “This would never have happened if this thug had been behind bars. Yet Chicago lets repeat offenders roam the streets.
“Chicago’s carelessness is putting the American people at risk,” he continued. “No one should ever have to fear for their lives on the subway.”
CHICAGO WOMAN SET ON FIRE DURING ARGUMENT ON CTA TRAIN, POLICE SAY
Authorities said the alleged attacker, 50-year-old Marcus Reed, has spent decades cycling through the criminal justice system and was out on bond at the time of the assault. Reed has been charged with committing a terrorist attack or violence against a mass transportation system, according to the criminal complaint.
Federal prosecutors allege that Reed intentionally used gasoline and a lighter to set MaGee on fire aboard a CTA Blue Line train at about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Andrew Boutros said the woman was “minding her own business and reading her phone” while seated in the middle of the train car when Reed approached her from behind, doused her head and body with gasoline, and tried to ignite the liquid.
The woman ran to the back of the car as he ignited the rest of the liquid in the bottle and then used it to light her on fire, according to the complaint.
CHICAGO TRAIN ATTACK SUSPECT ORDERED BY JUDGE TO REMAIN IN CUSTODY AHEAD OF TRIAL
Video allegedly showed Reed watching the woman, engulfed in flames, as she tried to put out the fire by rolling on the floor.
Boutros said as the woman was rolling on the ground, desperately trying to put out the fire, no one came to her aid.
When the train stopped at Clark and Lake, the complaint noted the victim, who was still on fire, managed to exit before collapsing on the platform.
“When she finally stumbled down, two Samaritans came and put out the blaze that was all consuming her,” Boutros said.
CHICAGO TRAIN FIRE ATTACK SHOWS WHY ‘DECARCERATION’ POLICIES ARE PUTTING LIVES AT RISK: EXPERT
She suffered severe burns to her face and body and remains in critical condition, according to authorities.
Prosecutors obtained photos showing Reed at a gas station about 20 minutes before the attack, where he was seen entering the store, paying the cashier and filling a small container with gasoline.
Other images showed Reed inside the train holding a flaming bottle as he approached the victim.
Reed allegedly exited the train after setting the woman on fire and walked away.
CHICAGO PERSON OF INTEREST IN TRAIN FIRE ATTACK HAS 22 PRIOR ARRESTS, WAS FREED BY JUDGE: REPORT
During Reed’s first appearance in federal court Wednesday, he allegedly shouted, “I plead guilty, I plead guilty, I plead guilty.”
U.S. Magistrate Judge Laura McNally asked him if he knew the maximum sentence was life in prison, to which he responded, “It’s cool, it’s cool, it’s cool.”
Following the hearing, ATF Special Agent in Charge Chris Amon commented on Reed’s violent criminal history and pending cases, adding he “had no business being on the streets.”
“Reed had plenty of second chances from the criminal justice system, and as a result, you have an innocent victim in the hospital fighting for her life,” Amon said. “Because of the swift action of CPD, ATF and our law enforcement partners, there will be no other chances for Mr. Reed.”
BLUE CITY SUSPECT WITH NUMEROUS PRIOR ARRESTS FEDERALLY CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY SETTING WOMAN ABLAZE ON TRAIN
McNally suggested a mental and medical evaluation, though Boutros noted Reed had not been declared mentally incompetent in connection with any of his prior charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Bond said Friday that Reed has spent 32 years cycling through the criminal justice system, beginning around age 18. He’s been arrested 72 times and has eight felony and seven misdemeanor convictions.
Records show Reed has a lengthy criminal history, including a charge of felony aggravated arson from April 2020, after he allegedly started a fire at the Thompson Center, where Gov. J.B. Pritzker was holding a daily COVID-19 briefing.
He also faced misdemeanor battery charges for punching multiple women in the face, seemingly at random, and slapping a 42-year-old man in the face at the Halsted CTA Blue Line platform, FOX 32 Chicago reported.

In August, Reed was charged with aggravated battery after allegedly assaulting a woman at a psychiatric hospital, CWB Chicago reported. Despite prosecutors’ request to keep him detained, he was released with an ankle monitor.
Foreign ‘patriots’ caught red-handed as Musk’s X unveils hidden account locations
A new feature on Elon Musk’s X is exposing the truth behind social media accounts across the political spectrum, with account owners apparently misleading followers about where they are posting from.
The new feature allows all X users to inspect where a given account is based, usually listing a country or region. Many popular accounts posing as American “patriots” or “constitutionalists” have been exposed as being run from foreign countries since the update rolled out on Friday.
One account with the handle “@1776General_” boasts over 140,000 followers and has a user biography describing the owner as a “constitutionalist, patriot and ethnically American.” The biography claims the account is based in the U.S., but X’s new feature reveals it is actually based in Turkey.
“I work in international business. I’m currently working in Turkey on a contract,” the owner of the account posted after the new feature was released.
STOP FOREIGN-OWNED APPS FROM HARVESTING YOUR PERSONAL DATA
Another account, “@AmericanVoice__” had over 200,000 followers before the update rolled out. The new feature exposed that it was being run from South Asia, and the owners simply deleted the account.
X head of product Nikita Bier says the new feature should help X users sift out misinformation from their feeds.
“When you read content on X, you should be able to verify its authenticity. This is critical for staying informed about important issues happening in the world. Part of this is showing new information in accounts, including the country an account is located in, among other things,” Bier wrote.
The phenomenon is not limited to American politics, however. Many accounts claiming to have been reporting on alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza also appear to be misleading users.
One user, Motasm A Dalloul, uses the handle “@AbujomaaGaza” and claims to be a “Gaza-based journalist.” His account has over 197,000 followers, but X says the owner is actually posting from Poland.
Dalloul has pushed back on claims that he is lying to his followers, however, posting a video on Saturday that appeared to show him on the ground in Gaza. Many users have argued about whether the video was digitally altered.
Another Palestinian-related account, the Quds News Network or @QudsNen, describes itself as the “largest independent Palestinian youth news network” and has over 600,000 followers.
The account lists its location as “Palestine,” but X says the account is actually based out of Egypt – unlike other accounts that X does list as being based in “Palestine,” such as American-Palestinian journalist Mariam Barghouti.

A similar account under the name Times of Gaza/@Timesofgaza has nearly one million followers. It claims to provide the “latest news updates and top stories from occupied Palestine.” The account is based in “East Asia and the Pacific,” according to X.
X representatives have said its new feature could be partially spoofed by using a VPN to mask a user’s true location. In such cases where a VPN was detected, X added a warning next to the listed location.
Trump fires back at ‘lowlifes’ as GOP faces fallout from MTG’s sudden exit
President Donald Trump made a passionate post claiming that the Republican Party is “so UNITED” on Sunday night, amid internal divisions in the party over leadership, tariffs, and legislative priorities.
In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote that the GOP has “never been so UNITED AS IT iS RIGHT NOW!”
“Other than Rand Paul, Rand Paul Jr.(Massie!), Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, and a couple of other ‘lowlifes,’ and other than the fact that many want the Election threatening Filibuster TERMINATED (the Dems will do it in the first minute of their first chance!), and some don’t, there is great spirit and cohesion,” Trump’s post read.
The president also claimed that the Republican Party is “MUCH BIGGER” than it was before he launched his first presidential campaign in 2015.
THE REVOLT OF MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE, NOW DONALD TRUMP’S FIERCEST CRITIC
“Many Millions More Members!” Trump wrote. “We now have the Strongest Border EVER, Biggest Tax Cuts, the Best Economy, Highest Stock Market in USA History, and sooo much more.”
He added, “BUT, THE BEST IS YET TO COME! VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!”
The post came just two days after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a Trump loyalist, announced that she was resigning after falling out with the president, who claimed she had “gone Far Left.”
“Americans are used by the Political Industrial Complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, in order to elect whichever side can convince Americans to hate the other side more,” Greene wrote in her resignation statement.
TRUMP GIVES EX-ALLY GREENE NEW NICKNAME AFTER DROPPED ENDORSEMENT, SAYS SHE BETRAYED ‘ENTIRE REPUBLICAN PARTY’
“And the results are always the same — nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman.”
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., wrote that he was “very sad for our country” after Greene resigned.
“She embodies what a true Representative should be,” said Massie. “Everyone should read her statement; there’s more honesty expressed in these four pages than most politicians will speak in a lifetime.”
Greene’s resignation attracted criticism from Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, who spoke about it on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.
“Honestly, I was like, you’ve got to be kidding me,” Crockett said. “You’re on the other side of the president for one week, and you can’t take the heat.”

Israeli forces reveal massive Hamas ‘root tunnel’ hidden beneath UN compound
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a video showing what it describes as one of Hamas’s “most complex” underground infrastructures extending beneath the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
According to the IDF, the seven-kilometer-long “root tunnel” runs roughly 25 meters underground, contains about 80 rooms and was used for command operations, weapons storage and sheltering Hamas operatives.
The video shared on X on Nov. 20 travels through reinforced concrete passageways and large chambers, showing the sophistication and scale of Hamas’s underground network.
The Israeli military claims the tunnel originated beneath a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) compound and stretched beneath civilian sites.
ISRAEL’S DOHA STRIKE SENT A DECISIVE MESSAGE THAT TERROR WILL FIND NO SAFE HAVEN
“IDF troops uncovered one of Gaza’s largest and most complex underground routes, over 7 km long, ~25 meters deep, with ~80 hideouts, where abducted IDF officer Lt. Hadar Goldin was held,” the post read.
Israeli analysts say the demolition of this tunnel marks a strategic blow to Hamas and “paves the path to its defeat.”
“The destruction of this tunnel as well as many others like it or similar… as well as other terror facilities pushes Hamas to the edge,” said Professor Kobi Michael, senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) and the Misgav Institute.
IDF HOLDS MEMORIAL CEREMONY AT BASE ATTACKED BY HAMAS ON OCT. 7 HONORING FALLEN TROOPS
“It is one of the longest and [most] complicated tunnels that have been discovered, but it is not the only one,” he told Fox News Digital.
Michael explained that Hamas’ root tunnels form the backbone of its underground warfare system.
“This is an example of a root tunnel, a strategic one that feeds many tactic tunnels and is used for strategic purposes [such] as command and control, weapon storage, manufacturing platforms of weapon[s] and strategic logistics,” he said.
ISRAEL SET TO LAUNCH GAZA CITY OFFENSIVE: HIGH STAKES, HIGH COSTS AHEAD
“Such a tunnel is usually manned by hundreds of militants and commanders.”
The IDF believes this particular tunnel network may have been connected to the area where Lt. Hadar Goldin, an Israeli soldier abducted during the 2014 Gaza war, was held captive. Hamas returned Goldin’s remains earlier this month – after more than a decade.
The tunnel’s exposure sheds new light on the extent of its underground operations.
ISRAEL’S COVERT CAMPAIGN TARGETS HAMAS TERRORISTS BEHIND OCT 7 MASSACRE
“I have no idea about the cost but if you take into consideration the amount of the building materials, labor and facilities and its length, it is a matter of millions of INS,” he claimed. “Hamas chose routes under sensitive civilian and humanitarian facilities in order to prevent the IDF from attacking the tunnel.”
As Israel continues operations in Gaza, the destruction of Hamas’s tunnel networks remains central to its strategy to dismantle the group’s military capabilities and prevent future attacks.
In 2014, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he wanted to destroy the tunnels, which Hamas militants used to infiltrate Israeli territory, “with or without a ceasefire.”

According to a 2023 investigation by Reuters, Hamas had said it had been using the tunnels to hide hostages seized in its Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
Israel’s military said its ground forces had uncovered around 1,500 Hamas tunnels and shafts throughout the Gaza Strip, per the report.
New Arctic discovery could deal massive blow to China and a big win for the US
A project heralded by Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy and accelerated by President Donald Trump stands to deal a huge blow to China’s dominance in the nanotechnology, energy and automotive sectors as the GraphiteOne site near Nome uncovered vast reserves — for which Beijing previously accounted for 90% of production.
As of 2024, the U.S. was at least 93% import-dependent on both rare earth elements (REEs) and graphite itself, according to the International Energy Agency, and the Graphite Creek deposit has already been dubbed the largest such tranche in the U.S.
But, this week’s announcement that REEs were discovered in addition to the graphite lode portends a step-up that the U.S. can take against the CCP through Trump’s “American energy dominance” agenda, according to a source familiar with the situation.
TRUMP CALLS XI’S RARE EARTH MOVE A ‘BAD MOMENT’ — WHY IT MATTERS FOR US NATIONAL SECURITY, CHINA TIES
Batteries, renewable energy technology, fiberoptics, lights, magnets and consumer electronics like phones and tablets rely on REEs, which often places the U.S. at a manufacturing disadvantage — accentuated by China’s 2024 export limits on magnet-related REEs, according to PRNewswire.
GraphiteOne President Anthony Huston said the Nome discovery is proof of a “truly generational deposit” at the Graphite Creek site. Some of the materials from the site will be shipped to an advanced graphite and battery anode material plant in Ohio.
Huston confirmed the presence of two Defense Production Act-qualifying materials and said that given the “robust economics of our planned complete graphite materials supply chain, the presence of Rare Earths at Graphite Creek suggests that recovery as a by-product to our graphite production will maximize the value.”
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION WORKS TO BREAK CHINA’S RARE EARTH MINERAL STRANGLEHOLD ON AFRICA
REEs found include neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium, along with ore rock containing garnet deposits. The site’s chief geologist noted that garnets can absorb certain REEs into their mineral structure.
In his State of the State address earlier this year, Dunleavy praised the GraphiteOne project as the largest such in North America and encouraged it to continue moving forward with the support of both Juneau and Washington.
Huston said Dunleavy rightly understood the role of Alaska as a crucial American source of metals and minerals “transforming the 21st century” and making the U.S. less reliant on foreign sources, including “entities of concern.”
CHINA WEAPONIZED SCIENCE AGAINST THE US. WE’VE FIGURED OUT A KEY ELEMENT THEY MISSED
Outside of Alaska, REEs have been discovered in Pennsylvania, with then-Rep. Lou Barletta, a Republican, trying to draw attention to them during his time in Congress in the 2010s.
Antracite coal deposits of Appalachian Pennsylvania have been found to contain as many as 17 different REEs, which could strike another blow to Chinese dominance.

Barletta told Fox News in 2018 that funding had been secured for a pilot program to look into extracting REEs from coal wastewater, as long-abandoned mines dot the landscape from Shamokin to Audenried, the latter falling in the aptly-named Carbon County.
While little has been done in Pennsylvania when it comes to extracting such minerals, compared to Alaskan efforts in the time since, researchers at Penn State said in September they had developed methods to recover cobalt, manganese and nickel from acid mine drainage and fly ash.
Raiders part ways with second coach in three weeks after Browns demolish offense
After another lackluster offensive performance, the Las Vegas Raiders have fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, according to multiple reports.
This is the second coordinator fired by the Raiders in the past three weeks, as special teams coordinator Tom McMahon was relieved of his duties after a 10-7 loss to the Denver Broncos on Nov. 6.
Las Vegas placed heavy emphasis on upgrading its offense this offseason, and Kelly’s addition made him the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL with a deal worth an average of $6 million per season.

Kelly was hired by the Raiders after winning a national title with Ohio State and returned to the NFL to join Pete Carroll, who came out of retirement to coach in Las Vegas.
But after adding veteran quarterback Geno Smith in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks and using their first-round pick on running back Ashton Jeanty, the offense simply hasn’t performed well enough.
SHEDEUR SANDERS MAKES BROWNS HISTORY WITH WIN OVER RAIDERS IN FIRST CAREER START
Owner Mark Davis and the rest of the organization decided it was time to let Kelly go before the end of his first season with the franchise.
Kelly’s firing came after the Raiders’ 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns earlier Sunday. Smith threw for 285 yards on 30-of-44 passing with one touchdown to Jeanty. The Raiders have scored 16 points or fewer in four of their last five games — all of which have ended in losses.
Entering Sunday’s game, the Raiders ranked third worst in yards per game (269) and points per game (15.5). Carroll also couldn’t have been pleased with Jeanty and the rushing attack, which managed just 81.4 yards per game despite investing in a first-round pick at running back.
The Raiders’ offensive line has been a problem all season, with Smith being sacked 31 times entering the game against Cleveland. The Browns left Allegiant Stadium on Sunday with 10 sacks. Only Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick, has been sacked more times this season with 45.

It’s unknown who will take over offensive play-calling duties for the Raiders the rest of the season. But at 2-9, it’s been an unfortunate start to Carroll’s return — a season that was supposed to rejuvenate the franchise.
Peace on horizon? Secretary of State reveals advancement in Ukraine framework
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that discussions over ending the war in Ukraine have entered a productive phase, while claiming “a tremendous amount of progress” had been made.
Following a round of talks with a Ukrainian delegation in Geneva, Switzerland, Rubio told reporters negotiators had “a very good day today.”
“We had a very good day today. I think we made a tremendous amount of progress, even from the last time I spoke to you,” Rubio said.
“We began almost three weeks ago with a foundational document that we socialized and ran by both sides, and with input from both sides,” he said.
LAVROV OFFERS FACE-TO-FACE MEETING WITH RUBIO AS RUSSIA SIGNALS DIPLOMATIC OPENING AMID UKRAINE TENSIONS
Rubio described how negotiators had been refining the 28-point peace framework that outlines potential conditions for a ceasefire and long-term settlement for Ukraine and Russia.
“Over the last 96 hours or more, there’s been extensive engagement with the Ukrainian side including our Secretary of the Army and others, being on the ground in Kyiv, meeting with relevant stakeholders across the Ukrainian political spectrum in the legislative branch and the executive branch, and the military and others to further sort of narrow these points.”
TRUMP AND ZELENSKYY TO MEET AS POLAND PRESSURES NATO ON NO FLY ZONE OVER UKRAINE
“We arrived here today with one goal: to take what – it’s 28 points or 26 points, depending on which version, as it continued to evolve and try to narrow the ones that were open items. And we have achieved that today in a very substantial way,” he said.
The weekend talks centered on a 28-point plan, which is a framework drafted by the U.S. outlining steps for a possible ceasefire and political settlement.
The document is said to cover security guarantees, territorial control, reconstruction mechanisms, and Ukraine’s long-term relationship with NATO and the EU.
ZELENSKYY WARNS UKRAINE FACES ‘DIFFICULT CHOICE’ AS US PEACE PLAN HITS MAJOR HURDLE
The plan has reportedly evolved through several iterations, narrowing disputes point by point as both sides weigh concessions.
“Now, obviously, like any final agreement, it’ll have to be agreed upon by the presidents, and there are a couple of issues that we need to continue to work on,” Rubio clarified.
While declining to specify unresolved issues, Rubio described the moment as “delicate.”
“This is a very delicate moment, and it’s important – like I said, there’s not agreement on those yet. Some of it is semantics or language; others require higher-level decisions and consultation; others, I think, just need more time to work through,” he said before touching on some issues.
US AND RUSSIA DRAFT PEACE PLAN FOR UKRAINE REQUIRING MAJOR CONCESSIONS FROM KYIV
“There were some that involved equities or the role of the EU or of NATO or so forth, and those we kind of segregated out because we just met with the national security advisors for various European countries, and those are things we’ll have to discuss with them because it involves them.”
“I don’t want to declare victory or finality here. There’s still some work to be done,” he added.
Suggesting there is intent to ensure Ukraine’s security, Rubio said that they all “recognize that part of getting a final end to this war will require for Ukraine to feel as if it is safe, and it is never going to be invaded or attacked again.”

“I honestly believe we’ll get there,” he said, and when asked about next steps, Rubio said a possible call between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy could happen, adding, “I don’t know. It’s possible. I’m not sure.”
“The deadline is we want to get this done as soon as possible. Obviously, we’d love it to be Thursday,” he added.
Americans hit with sticker shock at dealerships as car prices soar to historic high
Car prices are trending up and the average cost of a new car is at an all-time high, approaching the $50,000 mark for the first time.
The average transaction price for a new vehicle in October was $49,105, according to data from Edmunds. That represents a year-over-year increase of 3.1%.
“This has been something that we’ve all been waiting for, I don’t think anyone was ever expecting the number to go down,” Ivan Drury, director of insights at Edmunds, told FOX Business. “It coincided with a high share of EVs being sold, so naturally, EVs being more expensive it kind of pushed us over the edge.”
“Strip all that away, there’s virtually no vehicle you can buy today that is cheaper than it was from last year, two years ago, five years ago,” Drury said. “The average age of trade-in toward a new car is like five and half to six years old right now. People who bought in 2020 and 2019, and especially 2019 for prices, they’re definitely in for sticker shock.”
US HOUSEHOLD DEBT HITS A NEW RECORD, NY FED FINDS
“If you’re a customer with a trade-in, and you haven’t been to the dealership for anything other than service in six years, you’re going to be floored by seeing the average transaction price being nearly $10,000 more than the last time you bought,” Drury added.
Average monthly payments on new vehicles sold in October saw a similar increase of 3.2% from a year ago and amount to $766 per month. Interest rates ticked slightly lower, as the average APR declined from 7% to 6.9% in October.
NEW CAR DOWN PAYMENTS HIT 4-YEAR LOW AS BUYERS STRUGGLE WITH AFFORDABILITY CHALLENGES
Drury said there has been a noticeable downward trend with interest rates on new auto loans below 7% for the first time since last December, but noted that car shoppers with a six-year-old car likely had a loan that was around 4% or 5% – meaning a new auto loan will be noticeably more expensive to finance.
“The average interest paid over the life of a loan today, your average amount to be financed at $43,000; a 72-month term is the most frequent; you’re looking at like $9,500 in interest alone – so you’re not even paying for the car at that point, that’s a privilege to borrow,” Drury said.
HERE’S WHY THE AVERAGE US CREDIT SCORE IS FALLING
Auto dealers have increased the average discount available to buyers, though those have offered modest relief. The average discount was $1,985 in January, hit its highest level of the year to date at $2,262 in June, and was $2,240 in October.
“For dealerships, they are resorting back to providing discounts. They are getting money from automakers to put cash on the hood,” Drury said.

“The average vehicle is sitting on a lot for about 60 days, which is considered acceptable for industry standards. But it also touches upon time on the lot, which dealers don’t want them sitting there that long because, while it’s acceptable – optimal is, of course, lower, the fewer days on the lot, the better for them,” he said.
