Controversial extra point sparks debate as Texans secure crucial AFC South victory
The Houston Texans pulled off a four-point win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, 20-16, as fans debated whether kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn successfully made an extra point.
The debate started after Texans wide receiver Nico Collins ran the ball seven yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Fairbairn came into the game to attempt the extra point. He kicked the ball and appeared as though he may have missed it wide left.

However, NFL officials said the kick was good. It sparked a debate on social media over whether the officials made the correct call.
CBS’ rules analyst Gene Steratore explained that Fairbairn’s kick went over the outside edge of the upright. The kick couldn’t be reviewed, according to NFL rules.
Houston picked up the crucial point and was able to hold off the Colts the rest of the way for the win.
C.J. Stroud made his first start since being taken out with a concussion. He was 22-of-35 with 276 passing yards, an interception and two sacks.
RAMS STAR MAKES INCREDIBLE ONE-HANDED CATCH VS PANTHERS
Texans running back Nick Chubb had a touchdown to go along with 34 rushing yards. Woody Marks led Houston with 64 rushing yards.
Collins had five catches for 98 yards to go along with his rushing touchdown.
Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, who was playing with a broken fibula, was 14-of-27 with 201 passing yards and two touchdown passes. His touchdown passes went to Alec Pierce and Tyler Warren.
Pierce led Indianapolis with four catches for 78 yards. Warren had three catches for 22 yards.

Houston’s win tightened the AFC South divisional race. The Jacksonville Jaguars jumped the Colts for first place in the division after a win over the Tennessee Titans and the Texans sit right behind both Jacksonville and Indianapolis.
Former Moscow station chief warns Putin using peace talks as battlefield strategy
Russian President Vladimir Putin may be using negotiations over the war in Ukraine to gain more favorable positioning on the battlefield and among global leaders, but a former high-ranking CIA official doubts whether Russia is really interested in peace.
“Russia’s going to continue this war, and their strategic objectives — which is to topple the government of Ukraine — those haven’t changed much,” said Dan Hoffman on “Fox & Friends Weekend.” Hoffman used to serve as the CIA station chief of Moscow, making him the highest-ranking CIA official in Russia at the time.
“Putin likes to talk, he likes to negotiate because he feels like he could influence the United States not to pursue sanctions, further sanctions on Russia, and to hold on giving Ukraine military equipment like Tomahawk missiles,” Hoffman said. “But I don’t see Russia very interested in negotiating. However, it’s still worth pursuing, and good on the Trump administration for trying.”
COULD TRUMP’S GAZA CEASEFIRE PLAN OFFER A BLUEPRINT FOR PEACE IN UKRAINE?
Despite his skepticism, Hoffman emphasized the importance of the meeting between a Ukrainian delegation and United States representatives, including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, happening in Florida on Sunday.
“I think these meetings are really important, not just for the United States and Ukraine to discuss the peace process and the upcoming trip from Special Envoy Witkoff to Russia, but also for the Ukrainians to share battlefield updates, what they’re seeing on the ground, how they see the war going and the potential for a future deal in the making,” Hoffman said.
The meeting follows the resignation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, on Friday, and precedes Witkoff’s planned visit to Russia. Hoffman said it would be a chance for Ukraine to assuage U.S. fears after the shakeup.
PUTIN CALLS TRUMP’S PEACE PLAN A ‘STARTING POINT’ AS HE WARNS UKRAINE TO PULL BACK OR FACE ‘FORCE’
On the battlefield, tensions continue to rise after Ukraine’s drone strike on Russian forces in the Black Sea and Russia’s deadly missile attack on Kyiv.
One sticking point in the peace process has been whether Ukraine will cede territory to Russia, which Hoffman said “would be extremely dangerous for Ukraine.”
“The last thing Ukraine wants to do is give [heavily fortified positions in Donetsk] up and present Putin an opportunity down the road to launch another invasion of Ukraine when Ukraine would be vulnerable,” he said.
“Putin has violated every agreement he’s ever signed, going back to the one that his predecessors signed at the Budapest memorandum, which promised Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence,” Hoffman continued. “And so Ukraine needs to be prepared, with Europe’s backing, to deter any future Russian attack. That’s critical.”
Hoffman acknowledged that, in light of Yermak’s resignation and the surrounding corruption scandal, Ukraine makes an imperfect ally. However, “they also happen to be the strongest army in Europe, and they have the most sophisticated drone and counter drone technology. They’re the bulwark of Europe’s defense,” he said.

“And look, it’s worth remembering we enjoy a trillion dollars worth of trade with Europe and the last thing we want is the specter of Russian aggression on Europe,” Hoffman stated.
In Hoffman’s estimation, “the best way to deter [Russia] is for Ukraine to either to win or to have a good solid peace there that protects their territorial integrity.”
America’s favorite cooking oil may be making you fat, new research reveals
A new study published in the Journal of Lipid Research suggests that soybean oil, the most widely consumed cooking oil in the United States, may play a direct role in promoting obesity, and the effect appears tied to how the body processes one of its main components.
Researchers fed mice a diet rich in soybean oil and tracked how they metabolized linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that makes up a large share of soybean oil.
Linoleic acid is broken down in the body into molecules called oxylipins, and eating a lot of linoleic acid can raise the amount of these oxylipins. The study shows that certain oxylipins are linked to weight gain in mice.
YOUR DNA COULD BE STOPPING YOU FROM LOSING WEIGHT, NEW STUDY SUGGESTS
“This may be the first step toward understanding why some people gain weight more easily than others on a diet high in soybean oil,” said Sonia Deol, a UCR biomedical scientist and corresponding author of the study, in a press release.
The researchers asked a simple question: If we reduce the mice’s ability to turn linoleic acid into oxylipins, will they still get obese on a soybean-oil diet?
To test this, they used a genetically engineered line of mice that express a different version of a liver regulatory gene, P2-HNF4α.
The genetic change alters many metabolic pathways, including lowering the activity of several enzyme families that normally convert linoleic acid into oxylipins.
These enzymes also exist in all mammals, including humans, and their activity can vary because of genetics, diet and other factors.
‘NEXT OZEMPIC’ AIMS TO DELIVER 30% WEIGHT LOSS WITH FEWER SIDE EFFECTS
The team then fed both the altered mice and normal mice a diet high in soybean oil.
At the end of the experiment, the modified mice had healthier livers and gained much less weight compared to normal mice on the same diet.
The researchers pinpointed specific oxylipins made from linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid (another fat in soybean oil) that were tied to obesity in the normal mice.
These oxylipins were present in higher amounts in the mice that became obese.
DOCTOR REVEALS THE ‘HATEFUL 8’ SEED OILS THAT COULD HARM YOUR HEALTH
The findings suggest that the body’s internal processing of linoleic acid may play a key role in how soybean oil contributes to fat accumulation.

In other words, the issue may not be just the calories in the oil itself, but what the body turns those fatty acids into once they enter the metabolic system.
The study was conducted entirely in mice, and the authors note that human metabolism is more complex.
Still, the work raises questions about whether high intake of linoleic-acid-rich oils could contribute to obesity through biochemical pathways that go beyond simple energy balance.

Soybean oil is the dominant cooking oil in American households, restaurants, and processed foods, according to the study. Because of its affordability and neutral taste, it is also used heavily in packaged snacks, fast foods and fried items.
The researchers emphasize that the study does not claim soybean oil inevitably causes obesity in humans.

Instead, it highlights a biochemical mechanism that may help explain why diets high in this oil can promote weight gain in animal models.
TEST YOURSELF WITH OUR LATEST LIFESTYLE QUIZ
The authors also caution that the genetically modified mice differ from humans because they were engineered to express much lower levels of enzymes responsible for converting linoleic acid into its metabolites.
That allows scientists to see the effects more clearly but limits how directly the results apply to people.
‘Terminator’ actress Linda Hamilton says she won’t chase youth at 69
“Terminator” star Linda Hamilton is pushing back against Hollywood’s fixation on youth as she embraces aging.
During a recent interview with AARP magazine, the 69-year-old actress explained that she opposes adhering to rigid beauty standards and views her physical appearance as a natural reflection of her life.
“I do not spend a moment trying to look younger on any level, ever,” Hamilton said. “I have just completely surrendered to the fact that this is the face that I’ve earned. And it tells me so much. And sometimes it’s stuff I don’t want to hear.”
“I don’t chase beauty, and I don’t chase longevity particularly,” she continued. “I’m fully planted in the moment, but that doesn’t mean you don’t try to be healthy. But not all the time — sometimes it is just a jelly donut.”
‘TERMINATOR’ STAR LINDA HAMILTON DISCUSSES HER 35-YEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
“I’m not rigid, which is a fantastic way to get older,” Hamilton added. “I’ve always said that rigidifying is what kills us: the rigid thoughts and the sort of not moving.”
“I’ve tried very hard in my life to stay as fluid as possible. One definition of happiness is being in the middle of a fast-moving river and not trying to swim to the left or the right side. And that, truly, is kind of what my life has been. It’s been a great, fun ride.”
Hamilton rose to fame starring as Sarah Connor in the 1984 science fiction action movie “The Terminator.” In the film, Sarah is a teenage waitress who is suddenly targeted by a killer cyborg, the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger). The actress returned for the second movie, 1991’s “Terminator 2,” which saw the transformation of Sarah from an ordinary young woman into a iconic action heroine.
PAULINA PORIZKOVA STRIPS DOWN TO UNDERWEAR AT 60 TO SHOW ‘IMPERFECTIONS ARE WHAT MAKES US PERFECT’
To prepare for the role, Hamilton underwent months of rigorous physical, combat and weapons training and she went on to perform most of her own stunts. At the age of 62, Hamilton reprised her role in 2019’s “Terminator: Dark Fate” and trained intensely for a year to convincingly play battle-hardened Sarah.
Hamilton is currently starring as scientist and military operative Dr. Kay in the fifth season of the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things.” While speaking with AARP, the Emmy Award nominee explained that decades of stunt work has taken a toll on her body and detailed how she stayed in shape while filming the show.
“To do ‘Stranger Things’ and to just keep myself in a level of fitness — there’s also a lot of damage and harm that I’m working with, having done so many stunts and falling on my butt in fear, there’s a bit of a price to pay — I was doing physical therapy three times a week,” she said.
Hamilton continued, “It’s this fantastic place that I discovered that was paying attention to whatever I needed that day. It was Pilates, it was yoga, a lot of free weights, machines, cables, everything. And I kind of love that: to go in and not have a chest and back day, but just have a ‘what do you need to loosen up and stretch out today.’ Really, really invaluable. So that’s basically what I do three times a week.”
During her interview with the outlet, the Maryland native also reflected on the advantages of aging.
“I fully inhabit myself in a way that I never did when I was younger,” she said. “I’m not trying to please anyone or prove anything or show off. It sounds kind of cocky, but it’s not. It’s a lovely satisfaction with the career that I’ve had.”
CANDACE CAMERON BURE SAYS FILMMAKER’S COMMENT ABOUT HER AGING NECK SENT HER ‘BACK TO THERAPY’
Hamilton shared that she is embracing becoming a grandmother for the first time. She told the outlet that her baby grandchild’s father is her son Dalton, 36, and lives in her neighborhood.
“We are slipping into that beautiful thing that is grandparenting,” she said. “I find that the connection is stunning; looking into his eyes, there is something so precious.”
The actress shares Dalton with her ex-husband, actor Bruce Abbott, to whom she was married from 1982 to 1989. She is also mother to daughter Josephine, 32, whom she shares with her ex-husband, director James Cameron.

Along with “Stranger Things,” Hamilton recently starred in the second and third season of the SYFY show “Resident Alien” and the sci-fi action movie “Osiris.”
“I’ve found a great balance between work and life — managed to work a lot in the last few years — which is such a surprise,” she told AARP. “I haven’t worked that fiercely for a three-year period, doing two series at a time and slipping a movie in between.”

“And yet I’m managing to still be part of my community and not leave all my friends behind because I’m working,” Hamilton added. “I have found a way to weave it together very beautifully. I certainly feel like everything is a blessing right now.”
Hamilton also shared that the best piece of advice that she had ever received was from her daughter Josephine.

“She was maybe 6 years old, we were visiting my parents in Maryland,” Hamilton recalled. “And I got up from a nice little nap and my mom said, ‘Josephine and I were talking, and we were talking about beauty, and Josephine said, ‘My mom is beautiful and you want to know why?’ And my mother said, ’Why do you think?’ And she said, ‘Because her face is filled with joy.’
“So I have actually used that as my definition of beauty ever since,” she said. “And I work on the joy.”
Boxing star slams college football coach’s move after team’s likely playoff berth
Boxer Jake Paul took a jab at Lane Kiffin after the college football coach decided to jump at the opportunity to take the LSU Tigers’ job and leave the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday.
Kiffin made the decision hours after Ole Miss defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs in their Egg Bowl rivalry game and virtually solidifying a spot in the College Football Playoff. Paul was among those who believed that Kiffin made a mistake.

“Lane Kiffin wtf did you just do such an L,” he wrote on X. “Feel bad for the players man…”
Ole Miss players didn’t appear to be too broken up by Kiffin’s move. Offensive lineman Brycen Saunders appeared to be excited that Pete Golding was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach as the team prepares for the College Football Playoff.
“LFG! @KeithCarterOM best AD in the nation, and couldn’t be more excited to play for Coach Golding,” Saunders wrote on X.
Kiffin released a statement on his decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU.
He said that he wanted to coach Ole Miss through the rest of the season, but was denied by Carter.

“After a lot of prayer and time spent with family, I made the difficult decision to accept the head coaching position at LSU,” Kiffin said in a statement.
“I was hoping to complete a historic six-season run with this year’s team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs, capitalizing on the team’s incredible success and their commitment to finish strong, and investing everything into a playoff run with guardrails in place to protect the program in any areas of concern. My request to do so was denied by Keith Carter despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level of performance. Unfortunately, that means Friday’s Egg Bowl was my last game coaching the Rebels.
“While I am looking forward to a new start with a unique opportunity at LSU, I will forever cherish the incredible six years I spent at Ole Miss and will be rooting hard for the team to complete their mission and bring a championship to Oxford.”
