Accused CEO assassin Luigi Mangione asks judge to toss evidence from his arrest
Accused assassin Luigi Mangione returned to court Monday for the first of three hearings in which his lawyers will ask the court to toss evidence in the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The 27-year-old Ivy League alumnus is accused of stalking Thompson, a 50-year-old father of two, before allegedly shooting him from behind outside a Manhattan hotel.
Thompson, who lived in Minnesota, was expected to attend a shareholder conference later that morning.
LUIGI MANGIONE ARGUES DOUBLE JEOPARDY IN BID TO DROP MURDER CASE, SUPPRESS EVIDENCE
Mangione’s lawyers are asking the court to suppress evidence collected during his arrest at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s five days after the murder. The evidence includes physical evidence from a backpack, including the suspected murder weapon and his journals, as well as statements he made to police before they read him a Miranda warning.
The hearings are expected to run for several days, with a break on Wednesday.
There are three different types of suppression hearings — Mapp, Huntley and Mosley. Two of them are expected this week: a Mapp hearing, to determine whether certain types of physical evidence should be suppressed or thrown out, and a Huntley hearing, to determine if a confession or other statements to law enforcement are admissible.
LUIGI MANGIONE PROSECUTORS FIRE BACK ON ‘EAVESDROPPING’ CLAIM
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has not yet finalized its trial strategy, and a Mosley hearing, which determines if non-eyewitnesses can testify at trial, is not expected yet.
Mangione faces a slew of charges in New York, Pennsylvania and federally.
State-level terror charges were thrown out earlier this year, but Mangione still faces second-degree murder, seven counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and possession of a forged ID in New York.

Archaeologists find warrior from vanished civilization and one stunningly rare weapon
Officials have unveiled the tomb of an ancient warrior, buried over 1,300 years ago by a long-forgotten people.
King Saint Stephen Museum, located in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, announced the discovery on Facebook. The tomb belonged to a “high-ranking Avar-period warrior,” according to the translated post.
The Avars were a nomadic people from Central Asia who settled parts of what is now Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia and Austria during the early Middle Ages. Once dominant across Central and Southern Europe, their power weakened after Charlemagne’s campaigns.
ELITE ROMAN FAMILY’S ANCIENT TREASURE UNEARTHED IN RUINS OF FIRE-SCORCHED DWELLING
The burial, less than seven feet deep, likely dates between 670 and 690 A.D., during the Middle Avar Period. It was found in August, though officials only revealed the discovery in October.
The museum’s announcement noted that the body appeared to have been “disturbed” at some point, as the warrior’s head, chest and abdomen had been moved from their anatomical positions.
But the grave also contained fascinating — and valuable — artifacts that were untouched.
These included a long knife, silver belt ornaments, gilded braid rings, an earring and a saber.
Frigyes Szücsi, lead archaeologist of the excavation, told Fox News Digital only 80 similar sabers have been found from the Middle Avar Period.
WISCONSIN DIVERS REVEAL MYSTERIOUS UNDERWATER PARKING LOT OF ANCIENT CANOES PRESERVED FOR MILLENNIA
“But most of them are not in as good condition as the one we found, or they were not discovered during archeological excavations,” said Szücsi. “Only high-status warriors had sabers, as it was the most expensive weapon of the time.”
The archaeologist added, “This is one of the earliest sabers, since this new type of weapon appeared simultaneously in the Carpathian Basin and in Eastern Europe during the second half of the 7th century.”
Taking out the saber without damaging it proved tricky. Szücsi said the excavation team used a custom-made box-like tool to move it.

The saber only weighs around 1.3 pounds now, and officials believe it was much heavier before it corroded.
They also believe the grave was reopened for ritual — rather than nefarious — reasons, since so many artifacts remained in place.
“They left the arrowheads, probably in the quiver, as well as the silver belt mounts inside,” Szücsi noted. “They didn’t even touch the long knife and the saber.”

“The disturbance must have taken place at least 10 years after the burial, as the bones were no longer held together by connective tissues, yet still during the Avar period, as the grave marker, or the grave mound or wooden post, must still have been visible.”
Researchers also used satellite imagery to explore the cemetery, identifying graves by subtle variations in crop color.
“Over the deep graves, the crops exhibit a darker shade of green, making it possible to outline the entire cemetery in aerial photographs,” said Szücsi.

“This method provides a great opportunity for archaeological research, as it also allows for the mapping of previously unknown Avar-period burial sites.”

Kentucky parts ways with head coach after bold statement following loss
The Kentucky Wildcats fired head football coach Mark Stoops on Sunday, according to multiple reports.
The Wildcats ended the regular season with a 41-0 loss to the Louisville Cardinals. Stoops said after the game he had no intention of stepping down as head coach.

“Like, I’m going to walk away? Are you kidding me? … Zero percent chance I walk,” he said, via ESPN.
“I’m going to be here as far as I’m concerned. Now I can’t control what decision (is going) to be made. If you’re asking me, I said zero. Zero means zero.”
It’s the second straight time Kentucky missed out on a bowl game. The Wildcats were 4-8 in 2024 and finished 5-7 in 2025. They lost a big game against Vanderbilt prior to the Louisville defeat.
JAKE PAUL TAKES JAB AT LANE KIFFIN AFTER LSU LURES COACH AWAY FROM OLE MISS
Stoops took over as Kentucky’s head coach before the 2013 season. The team was 2-10 in his first season but improved incrementally over the course of his tenure. The Wildcats won 10 games in 2018 – the first time they have done that since 1977.
He was 72-80 and will leave Kentucky as the winningest coach in program history.
Stoops also has a $36 million buyout due within 60 days of his dismissal, according to The Athletic.
It’s unclear who Kentucky will hire next, but the Wildcats will become the latest SEC program to make a move. LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas and Florida each made head-coaching decisions on Saturday.

Trump admin raises SNAP work age as overhaul targets costs and fraud
The Trump administration’s new requirements for the nation’s largest food aid program went into effect Monday, with the aim of reforming the costly system.
President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act raised the age limit from 54 to 64 for people who must work, train or volunteer at least 80 hours per month in “qualifying” activities to receive assistance from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The size and scope of SNAP, which supports more than 40 million Americans, came under renewed scrutiny during the government shutdown, as funding for the sweeping food assistance program neared a funding lapse.
In FY2024, SNAP served an average of 41.7 million participants per month — about 12% of Americans — costing taxpayers roughly $99 billion.
TRUMP SAYS SNAP BENEFITS WILL ONLY RESUME WHEN ‘RADICAL LEFT DEMOCRATS’ OPEN GOVERNMENT
The Congressional Budget Office projects the new requirements will reduce the average monthly number of SNAP recipients by about 2.4 million over the next 10 years.
The Trump administration has claimed that costs for the benefits have grown out of control due to the growing reliance on the program and fraud within the system.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins told FOX Business last month that limited data has already uncovered significant misuse, including 186,000 deceased individuals receiving benefits and about 500,000 people collecting SNAP assistance in more than one state.
Rollins said the Trump administration will require all SNAP participants to reapply for benefits in an effort to prevent fraud.
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CITES WIDESPREAD MISUSE OF SNAP AS FUNDING LAPSES DURING SHUTDOWN
The Trump administration is also making changes to other federal benefits.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted Friday on X that his department is set to block illegal immigrants from accessing federal benefits.
Bessent said his department will issue proposed regulations clarifying that the refunded portions of certain individual income tax benefits are no longer available to illegal and other non-qualified aliens, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Additional Child Tax Credit, the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the Saver’s Match Credit.

Navy veteran battles media giant after judge mocked his case as ‘bad sequel’
The U.S. Navy veteran who successfully sued CNN for defamation earlier this year has filed an appeal for his defamation suit against the Associated Press, accusing the judge of a “lack of judicial decorum” that shows bias.
Zachary Young believes he was defamed when AP media reporter David Bauder wrote that “Young’s business helped smuggle people out of Afghanistan” when covering the CNN trial in a January 2025 article.
Judge William Henry of Florida’s 14th Judicial Circuit, who also presided over Young’s CNN trial, dismissed his lawsuit against the AP in September. The judge compared Young’s follow-up lawsuit to movie sequels that “should not be made.”
JUDGE TOSSES LATEST DEFAMATION SUITS FROM NAVY VET WHO BEAT CNN, SAYS SOME SEQUELS ‘SHOULD NOT BE MADE’
“In an order that inappropriately compares the criminal accusation of human smuggling to sneaking candy into a movie theater and flippantly refers to the lawsuit as a bad sequel that never should have been made, the court incorrectly determined AP’s accusation that ‘Young’s business helped smuggle people out of Afghanistan’ was not defamatory,” Young’s appellate counsel Lisa Paige Glass wrote in the filing.
Young’s legal team also accused the court of “jumbling” the three distinct and sequential stages of defamation analysis and requested a new judge, suggesting Judge Henry has “disdain” for the case.
“Reassignment is warranted to ensure a fair proceeding and maintain the appearance of justice,” Glass wrote.
Henry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Henry was seen as tough but fair throughout the CNN trial and regularly scolded CNN lead counsel David Axelrod — not to be confused with the CNN commentator of the same name — throughout.
NAVY VETERAN WHO PROVED CNN DEFAMED HIM SUES ASSOCIATED PRESS, SAYS HE WAS FALSELY PAINTED AS ‘SMUGGLER’
“The circuit court reduced a false felony accusation to a candy bar analogy. Human smuggling is a federal and international crime. It is not a joke, and it is not a figure of speech. Florida law requires courts to take those words as they are written, and we are confident the First District will restore that basic principle,” Young’s appellate counsel Lisa Paige Glass told Fox News Digital.
In January, a Florida jury found that CNN defamed Young by implying he illegally profited when helping people flee Afghanistan on the “black market” during the Biden administration’s military withdrawal from the country in 2021.
Young was awarded $4 million in lost earnings, $1 million in personal damages, and the jury found that punitive damages were also warranted against CNN. A settlement was reached before punitive damages were decided by the jury.
CNN DEFAMATION JUROR WOULD HAVE AWARDED NAVY VETERAN ‘UP TO $100 MILLION’ BEFORE SETTLEMENT WAS REACHED
While Henry suggested Young’s claims against the AP are “an attempt to repackage the CNN storyline against a different opponent,” Young’s legal team remains confident.
“This case is about accountability. When a major news organization tells the world that someone ‘smuggled people,’ it is making a direct criminal accusation. The law does not allow that to be brushed aside or reinterpreted after the fact. We are confident the First District will correct the error and allow a jury to decide the meaning of those words,” Daniel Lustig, a partner at Pike & Lustig, told Fox News Digital.
The AP, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the appeal, has defended its reporting throughout the process.
“AP’s story was a factual and accurate report on the jury verdict finding in Zachary Young’s favor. We will vigorously defend our reporting against this frivolous lawsuit,” an AP spokesperson previously told Fox News Digital.

Dining trend once shunned is back as Gen Z searches for real connection
Gen Z is bringing back a controversial dining trend, a new report found, as the generation seeks connection in an increasingly digital world.
Members of the generation born between 1997 and 2012 are increasingly eager to dine right next to strangers, embracing long, communal tables in hopes of sparking conversation and perhaps even scoring a date.
Online restaurant reservation platform Resy found that 90% of Gen Z diners enjoy sitting at communal tables, compared with 60% of baby boomers. The report also revealed that 63% of younger diners see communal tables as a great way to meet new people.
FREE MEAL IS MOTIVATING NEARLY 1 IN 3 SINGLES TO SAY ‘YES’ TO DATE, NEW REPORT FINDS
About half said they’ve had interesting conversations with strangers while dining this way, one in three has made a new friend and one in seven has even met a romantic partner, according to Resy’s November report on the dining trends that shaped 2025 and what may lie ahead for 2026.
For younger generations who grew up online and lost out on critical social development during the pandemic, the rise of communal dining makes sense, said Kelsey Latimer, Ph.D., a Florida psychologist, psychiatric nurse practitioner and founder of KML Psychological Services.
“I hear from my clients there is a desire to be more connected, especially after this generation was seriously impacted by COVID during critical years of connection,” Latimer told Fox News Digital.
“There is an interesting dynamic in the younger generations of constantly being immersed in the belief that connection is everywhere 24/7 due to the online environment, while simultaneously feeling a sense of disconnection and lacking in authentic connection,” she said.
GEN Z DRINKERS LEAVE BARTENDERS FRUSTRATED WITH SHRINKING TIPS AS ‘TERRIBLE’ TREND EMERGES
She added, “Sharing the communal space with others makes us feel we are naturally part of something larger than ourselves.”
In Astoria, Queens, 24-year-old restaurateur Marc Vasquez is at the forefront of communal dining at Mayahuel, which hosts supper club-style dinners.
“We host ticketed dinners where everyone sits at one long communal table, and almost everyone who signs up is Gen Z or a younger millennial,” Vasquez said. “We usually don’t do plus-ones — you come solo or with a friend, but you’re seated with strangers.”

For people who work from home, the events have become a mix of socializing and networking, he added, as younger diners increasingly seek curated, themed experiences.
“People want to leave dinner feeling like they belong somewhere, not just that they checked off another restaurant.”
“We grew up online and then spent the pandemic stuck on our phones and Zoom,” Vasquez said. “After that, a lot of us are tired of only connecting through a screen. If we’re going to go out, we want an experience and a story, not just another random night at a bar.”
“People want to leave dinner feeling like they belong somewhere, not just that they checked off another restaurant,” he added.

Ryan Nestor, founding partner of the Chicago-based restaurant design firm Barker Nestor, agreed. He said communal dining is part of a broader shift toward activity-based and shared experiences in hospitality.
While it has cycled in and out of popularity for decades, it is now making a strong comeback, he said.
“Ironically, the ‘online generation’ is dealing with more isolation than any before,” Nestor said. “Communal dining forces a break from the screen. … You can’t isolate yourself when you’re inches from another human. It’s a built-in antidote to digital loneliness, and young diners are hungry for that.”
Gen Z is driving the resurgence, he said, as communal tables feel “energetic, spontaneous and connected,” while older generations often see them as intrusive.

Restaurateurs also appreciate communal tables for practical reasons, he said.
“It’s incredibly efficient and profitable. When the trend is ‘in,’ owners are happy to lean into it,” Nestor added.
Hakki Akdeniz, chef and founder of Champion Pizza, which has locations in New York, Florida and Texas, said he believes older crowds may eventually warm up to the concept.
“Some baby boomers may accept this over time, especially if the food is good and the setting is cozy, not chaotic,” Akdeniz said. “But communal dining is currently the domain of younger generations.”
He compared the atmosphere to sitting at a crowded bar.

“Almost always, you find yourself sitting next to a stranger when you enter a busy bar and take the first available seat,” he said. “And it never feels odd. It’s just the atmosphere. Even if you don’t speak to the person next to you, you are part of the environment.”
Washington, D.C., leads the nation in communal dining, according to Resy. Top spots to experience the trend include Aita in New York, Dudley Market in Los Angeles, Galit in Chicago, Tapori in Washington, D.C., Little Hen in Miami and Madeira Park in Atlanta.
Beverly D’Angelo admits having children at 49 with Al Pacino changed her career path
“National Lampoon” star Beverly D’Angelo reflected on how she likely passed up the chance for a “bigger career” after she became a first-time mother at age 49.
In 2001, the actress welcomed twins Anton and Olivia Pacino with her former partner Al Pacino. D’Angelo, now 73, and Pacino, now 85, were in a relationship from 1996 to 2003.
During a recent interview with People magazine, D’Angelo opened up about prioritizing parenting over acting.
“If I would have been more focused, maybe I would have had a bigger career, but I was focused on my kids, to tell you the truth,” she said.
BEVERLY D’ANGELO’S EX DIVORCED HER SO SHE COULD BE WITH AL PACINO: ‘IT WAS A GREAT LOVE MATCH’
“I had them so late, and it was like, ‘Well, been there, done that, let’s do this,'” D’Angelo explained.
D’Angelo and Pacino conceived Anton and Olivia, now 25, through in vitro fertilization (IVF), a process that they began in 1997.
“Don’t try it at home,” D’Angelo joked to People of welcoming her children at 49.

The actress also explained that there was a generational divide between herself and the mothers of her children’s classmates, noting that they “didn’t really have the same references.”
D’Angelo’s made her career breakthrough in 1980, when she played legendary country singer Patsy Cline in the biopic “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” earning a Golden Globe Award nomination for her performance.
However, she became a household name after starring as Ellen Griswold opposite Chevy Chase’s Clark Griswold in the hit 1983 comedy “National Lampoon’s Vacation.” D’Angelo and Chase returned for the movie’s sequels including 1985’s “National Lampoon’s European Vacation,” 1989’s “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and 1997’s “Vegas Vacation.”
While speaking with People magazine, D’Angelo explained that she chose a quieter upbringing for her children outside the typical celebrity-focused Hollywood lifestyle.
She recalled that she didn’t realize “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” had become a holiday staple until her then 10-year-old children mentioned that “everybody’s talking about” the movie at school.
“I did not raise my kids in that culture,” D’Angelo said.
In addition to Anton and Olivia, Pacino is father to two other children. “The Godfather” star welcomed his first child, daughter Julie Pacino, with ex-girlfriend Jan Tarrant in 1989. At age 83, he became a father for the fourth time when he welcomed son, Roman, with his former partner Noor Alfallah in June 2023.

In a candid video that she shared on Instagram in May 2023, D’Angelo remembered falling in love with Pacino after they met for the first time on a flight from Los Angeles to New York in 1996.
“My story with Al began 27 years ago, two artists meeting, falling in love. We lived together for seven years, had two children, broke up, but continued steadily on our journey as co parents – and came to share our lives with a deeper kind of intimacy, honesty and acceptance than a ‘traditional’ relationship would have allowed, (for us at least),” D’Angelo wrote in the caption of her post.

D’Angelo continued to reminisce on her and Pacino’s love and said in 1997 he told her, “I want you to be the mother of my children.”
Although D’Angelo pointed out that she “avoided” playing the “role” of mother her whole life, she said she was “deeply in love” with Pacino and was “one hundred percent in.”

After their relationship got “complicated,” D’Angelo went on to say that the “power” of love for their children was the “basis for resolving any conflicts and creating a new history as co-parents, leading individual lives separately but always intertwined as a family.”
“As for me and Al, it is a unique and profound friendship between two artists that endures to this day, through thick and thin, 27 years now of doing it our way, and there you have it,” she concluded her video.
Steelers’ Heyward penalized after heated exchange with Bills’ Allen, explains fury
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward butted heads with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen during their Week 13 game on Sunday evening.
The two got nose-to-nose at one point after Allen threw a touchdown pass to Keon Coleman. Heyward was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Buffalo got the last laugh, 26-7.

Heyward was asked about his interaction with Allen and accused the quarterback of kneeing him in the stomach.
“Ticked off the entire game because, as a quarterback, they’re protected, but I’m not,” Heyward said, via ESPN. “It just p—es me off. … He even said after, ‘I had to do something to get you off me.’”
Allen’s media availability with reporters ended before Heyward’s started. The Bills quarterback didn’t talk about his interaction with the veteran defensive player.

Allen scored a rushing touchdown in the game and set the all-time record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 76. He surpassed former NFL star Cam Newton.
He finished 15-of-23 with 123 passing yards and contributed 38 yards on the ground. James Cook III led the Bills’ rushing attack the entire game. He had 144 yards on the ground on 32 carries. Buffalo totaled a whopping 249 rushing yards against the Steelers.
Heyward, a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time First Team All-Pro selection, had eight total tackles in the game.
