Surgeon ex-husband arrested, charged after Ohio dentist and wife were killed in own home
FIRST ON FOX: The ex-husband of an Ohio dentist’s wife killed in a double murder was arrested on Saturday in the Chicago area, according to court records.
Michael David McKee, 39, was arrested, police records show.
Columbus, Ohio, officials said police responded to a Weinland Park home around 10 a.m. on Dec. 30, and found Spencer Tepe, 37 and Monique Tepe, 39, both dead with gunshot wounds. McKee is Monique’s ex-husband.
McKee was booked at the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois just before noon on Saturday, records show. He’s being charged with two counts of murder in Ohio.
Detectives in Columbus believe the murders took place between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Dec. 30. Both of the couple’s children were found safe inside the home when officers arrived. Police didn’t find signs of forced entry and a weapon wasn’t recovered at the scene, officials said.

According to charging documents, police were able to identify McKee by linking him to a car that arrived in the Tepes’ neighborhood shortly before the murders, and left just after the homicide. The car was then located in Rockford, Illinois, and police found evidence it belonged to McKee.
The couple was killed just one month short of their five-year wedding anniversary, Rob Misleh, Spencer’s brother-in-law, told WSYX.
Court records show McKee’s divorce with Monique was finalized in 2017. He has lived in various states, including Virginia, Nevada and Illinois since 2020, according to public records. McKee and Monique got married in 2015.
McKee is a vascular surgeon in the Rockford, Illinois, area.
READ THE CHARGING DOCUMENTS:
Police on Monday released surveillance video showing a “person of interest” walking in the alley near the Tepes’ residence in the early morning hours of Dec. 30.
The video, released by the Columbus Division of Police, shows the man walking slowly in an alley near the Weinland Park home where Spencer and Monique lived. He’s seen in what appears to be a dark coat and light-colored pants.
At 10:03 a.m. on Dec. 30, one of the Tepe’s friends went to the couple’s house and told a 911 operator he could see a body inside.
“There’s a body,” the person can be heard saying. “Our friend wasn’t answering his phone. We just did a wellness check. We just came here and he appears dead. He’s laying next to his bed, off of his bed in this blood. I can’t get closer to see more than that.”

The couple’s family said in a statement they are “heartbroken beyond words,” and called the deaths “tragic and senseless.”
“They were extraordinary people whose lives were filled with love, joy, and deep connection to others,” read the statement. “Spencer, a graduate of The Ohio State University, was known as a devoted and proud father, a loving partner, and a friend to everyone he met,” the family statement said, adding that he was “intelligent, warm, and endlessly welcoming.”
Protest firm boss warns Minneapolis agitators are ‘unhinged’ and making city fail
As anti-ICE agitators disrupt streets across Minneapolis, the CEO of a national protest-organizing firm says the demonstrations have crossed into illegal territory, prompting his company to stay away entirely.
Adam Swart, chief executive officer of Crowds on Demand, told Fox News Digital his firm “would not touch the Minneapolis protests with a 10-foot pole,” citing blocked roadways, obstruction of federal agents, and threats against authorities following a fatal shooting during an ICE enforcement operation.
“Blocking roadways, obstructing federal agents, and threatening authorities are illegal, and we don’t engage in any form of illegal protest,” Swart said, warning the chaos playing out on city streets will have the opposite effect demonstrators claim to want. “The impact of these protests will actually be to increase ICE operations, not decrease them.”
Swart said mixing peaceful protesters with agitators creates serious risks on multiple fronts.
AG PAM BONDI WARNS MINNESOTA PROTESTERS AFTER ICE SHOOTING: ‘DO NOT TEST OUR RESOLVE’
“A lot of the people protesting on the streets are actually violent,” he said. “They are unhinged, unstable people who pose a risk to peaceful protesters. That’s why we’re staying out.”
Swart rejected claims that blocking roads or confronting officers amounts to “nonviolent resistance,” calling those actions inherently dangerous, particularly during active law enforcement operations.
“When you block the ability of federal agents to get in and out of a scene, you are putting them at risk from a violent mob,” he said. “That ability to enter and exit safely is fundamental to law enforcement.”
ICE DIRECTOR FIRES BACK AT ‘SQUAD’ LAWMAKERS OVER ‘POLITICAL RHETORIC’ AFTER FATAL MINNEAPOLIS SHOOTING
He added that winter conditions only compound the danger.
“The roads are icy and snowy,” Swart said. “You’re creating barriers that put vehicles at risk, and you’re also putting yourself and other protesters at risk.”
Beyond law enforcement concerns, Swart warned that road blockages endanger the broader community.
NOEM ALLEGES WOMAN KILLED IN ICE SHOOTING ‘STALKING AND IMPEDING’ AGENTS ALL DAY
“Who else can’t get through when roads are blocked? Ambulances. Fire trucks,” he said. “Emergency services have nothing to do with politics, and you’re making it impossible for them to do their jobs.”
Swart said such tactics ultimately undermine protesters’ stated goals and strip their message of credibility.
“When protesters commit illegal activity, what’s lost is the substance of the message,” he said. “People don’t hear what you’re protesting, they just see the blocked street.”
MAYOR JACOB FREY TELLS ICE TO ‘GET THE F— OUT OF MINNEAPOLIS,’ REJECTS DHS SELF-DEFENSE STATEMENT
The agitators took to the streets after a fatal encounter between ICE agents and 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good during a federal enforcement operation in south Minneapolis, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DHS said agents were attempting to make arrests when Good allegedly attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon against officers, prompting a federal agent to fire in self-defense, killing Good. The incident remains under investigation.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the shooting was “preventable” and occurred amid escalating interference with federal officers. She said ICE agents became stranded when one of their vehicles was stuck in the snow and were surrounded and blocked by agitators.
According to Noem, Good repeatedly obstructed officers, ignored commands to exit her vehicle, and then “weaponized her vehicle” in an attempt to run over an officer, who was struck and later treated at a hospital.
Swart said the unrest following the shooting underscores why his firm refuses to participate in confrontational activity.
“The chaos on the streets of Minneapolis shows why our approach—peaceful, lawful, persuasive, respectful—is the most effective,” he said.
MINNEAPOLIS PROTESTERS CONFRONT FEDERAL AGENTS DAY AFTER DEADLY SHOOTING
Swart warned the street unrest is actively counterproductive.
“If protesters think this will deter ICE, they’re wrong,” he said. “What’s far more likely is that ICE will increase its presence to deal with agitators. The administration will want to show it won’t be intimidated.”
He added that he has long offered Minneapolis leaders and stakeholders the opportunity to run lawful campaigns aimed at improving safety and restoring order, but said fear and intimidation have stalled those efforts.
ENRAGED ANTI-ICE PROFESSORS SLAM AMERICA, DEMAND ‘NUREMBERG’ TRIALS FOR AGENTS: ‘MODERATE POSITION’
Swart blamed that climate for the city’s continued decline, pointing to reduced police presence, shuttered businesses and the recent loss of Minneapolis’ only commuter rail line.
“There’s no one in Minneapolis who believes the city is well run,” he said. “It’s failing by any objective standard.”
Swart said the city can still recover, but only if residents reject intimidation and lawlessness.

“This can be your rock bottom,” he said. “You don’t need to fall further. But people have to find the courage to stand up for their city.”
“I want to engage in making Minneapolis a better place,” Swart added. “Not adding to the chaos currently unfolding.”
Portland police chief tearfully confirms 2 shot in CBP shooting had suspected TdA ties
Portland Police Chief Bob Day wiped away tears Friday as he addressed new information showing that two illegal immigrants shot during a federal immigration enforcement encounter had ties to the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA).
Day confirmed a Department of Homeland Security statement identifying the two individuals — Luis David Nico Moncada and Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras — as Venezuelan criminal illegal aliens with suspected ties to TdA.
Both were shot by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent after Moncada, the driver of the vehicle, allegedly “weaponized his vehicle” and attempted to run over agents, prompting an agent to fire in self-defense, according to DHS.
“They do have some nexus to involvement with TDA. We can confirm that,” Day said, pausing and choking up.
NOEM PRAISES DHS OFFICERS ON LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY AS ATTACKS ON FEDERAL AGENTS SPIKE NATIONWIDE
Day said he initially hesitated to disclose the suspected gang connection, citing what he described as the “historic injustice of victim blaming” by law enforcement, including within his own agency.
“I want to speak for just a moment, specifically to my Latino community,” Day said.
“It saddens me that we even have to qualify these remarks because I understand or at least have attempted to understand your voices, your concern, your fear, your anger,” Day said, removing his glasses mid-sentence and wiping tears from his eyes.
“This information, in no way, is meant to disparage or to condone or support or agree with any of the actions that occurred yesterday,” the chief added.
WAVE OF CAR ATTACKS ON ICE AGENTS FOLLOWS INCENDIARY RHETORIC FROM TARGET-CITY LEADERS
Day emphasized that he was disclosing the suspected gang ties for transparency only and that the information should not be interpreted as excusing or justifying the shooting, which remains under investigation.
“But it is important that we stay committed to the rule of law, that we stay committed to the facts, that we stay a trustworthy and legitimate police department for all Portlanders,” he said.
Day said both suspects remain hospitalized in stable condition and are in federal custody.
“They are in custody of federal law enforcement, but they appear to be on the road to recovery, and I’m grateful for that,” Day said.
DHS has rejected early reports suggesting the two were a married couple, calling such claims “revolting lies.” The agency said instead that Moncada was a suspected gang associate and that Zambrano-Contreras was allegedly involved in a TdA-linked prostitution operation.
Day has come under fire previously from Camilla Wamsley, the director of Portland’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office, who said the facility has endured dozens of nights of violence and that Portland police have been largely absent while responding to protests under direction from the mayor and city council.

Day has previously stated that his force will not assist in immigration enforcement operations, but noted that Portland Police manages public safety in the surrounding neighborhoods during demonstrations.
Inside Schwarzenegger’s over-the-top Christmas gift for son-in-law Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt received a unique Christmas gift from his father-in-law.
During a recent appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” the 46-year-old actor shared the one-of-a-kind gift he received from his father-in-law, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“His love language is giving gifts. That’s for sure, he just goes all out,” he said. “This year, one was like a six-foot by eight-foot portrait painting of all three of my children and him as Santa Claus. And it’s very lifelike, and it’s very big, and it’s him as Santa Claus and then the three kids peering around the Christmas tree seeing him eat a cookie.”
Due to its size, Pratt admitted he isn’t “sure exactly what we’re supposed to do with that the rest of the year,” adding they will probably “break that out in November sometime.”
MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY’S MOTHER SCOLDED HIM FOR HAVING A BABY WITH CAMILA ALVES ‘OUT OF ORDER’ BEFORE MARRIAGE
In addition to the “very thoughtful gift,” Pratt shared that Arnold also gifted him a pair of boots that he once wore in a movie.
Pratt is married to the former governor of California’s daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger, and the couple share three children: Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, and Ford, 1. He is also a father to son Jack, 13, who he shares with ex-wife, Anna Faris.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star celebrated Jack’s 13th birthday on Instagram in August 2025, sharing photos of the two of them on various outings, including feeding animals, wearing matching Dodgers jerseys and watching a Detroit Lions game.
“I have a teenager???” Pratt wrote over the pictures shared to his Instagram stories. “Jack, I can’t believe you are 13 today. I’ve watched you grow into such an incredible young man, and am truly proud of the person you are becoming.”
During a March appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Pratt discussed how the premature birth of his son in 2012 strengthened his connection to his faith, when he made “deals with God” to save his son. Jack was born seven weeks early and only weighed 3 pounds, 10 ounces.
“The most impactful moment was when my son was born,” he explained. “He was born early and had some health scares, and in that moment, I really made some deals with God, as you do when you’re praying, and I felt like if you save my son, I will give you everything.”

Pratt previously received backlash in November 2021 when he thanked Katherine for providing him with a “healthy daughter,” with many believing it was insensitive toward Faris.
“For me if was the emphasis on ‘healthy child’ like your firstborn is lesser in your eyes,” one commenter wrote. “You need to go read that sentence thru HIS eyes & apologize to him bcuz your wording was cruel Dude…”
His mother-in-law, Maria Shriver, defended him amid the backlash, reminding him in the comments section “what a good man you are and what a great father you are to jack and lyla.”

The moment planes land, one particular passenger behavior sparks big backlash
Standing up immediately after a plane lands has become a common activity on flights these days, and it has raised questions about airline etiquette and common courtesy in crowded cabins.
The behavior has created a long-running debate among travelers, particularly when passengers move into the aisle as soon as the aircraft comes to a stop.
Diane Gottsman, a national etiquette expert based in Texas, told Fox News Digital the issue has become a source of frustration for travelers.
PASSENGER DEFENDS CONTROVERSIAL ‘GATE LICE’ BEHAVIOR AS AIRLINES CRACK DOWN ON EARLY BOARDING ATTEMPTS
“With long flights, people are anxious to stand up and stretch their legs,” Gottsman said.
“They also want to get their suitcases out of the bins and be prepared to efficiently walk out of their aisle.”
Problems arise, she said, when passengers step into the aisle too early, blocking others and encroaching on the limited personal space in the cabin.
“Moving into the aisle and trying to push is a definite etiquette faux pas,” Gottsman said.

The behavior can also create safety concerns, she said.
“For safety reasons, it’s best to remain seated unless there is room to comfortably move about.”
Gottsman said flight attendants should handle the situation.
Travelers have also weighed in online, some saying standing immediately after landing is unavoidable.

One commenter on Reddit said leg cramps make it necessary to stand as soon as possible.
Many online commenters said they stand early to avoid missing their next flight when they have a tight connection.
Others criticized the behavior as impatient, with one traveler saying some passengers “have no patience.”
FOX Business previously reported that other countries have taken a firmer stance on the issue.

Former child star arrested in Texas on multiple charges, including felony
Former child actor Matt Prokop, known for his role in Disney’s “High School Musical 3,” was arrested in Texas on multiple charges, including possession of child pornography, Fox News Digital has confirmed.
The 35-year-old was taken into custody Dec. 24 in Victoria County, Texas, according to an employee at the Victoria County Jail.
Authorities told Fox News Digital Prokop faces four misdemeanor charges — one count of violation of bond or protective order, one count of evading arrest or detention and two counts of resisting arrest, search or transportation.

In addition, he faces a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a dating or family violence case.
The former Disney actor was also charged with second-degree felony possession of child pornography.
Prokop’s latest arrest comes years after troubling allegations surfaced during his relationship with actress Sarah Hyland.
The “Modern Family” star previously accused Prokop of verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship, which ended in 2014.
In court documents filed at the time, Hyland alleged that, in May 2014, Prokop slammed her into a vehicle and choked her during an argument.
The situation escalated months later when Hyland claimed Prokop threatened to kill her dog and burn down her house after she attempted to end the relationship.
Her “Modern Family” co-star, Julie Bowen, reportedly intervened in August 2014, helping Hyland safely leave the relationship. The following month, Hyland was granted a restraining order against Prokop.

Hyland and Prokop first crossed paths in 2008 at an audition for “High School Musical 3.” The two later starred in Disney’s TV movie “Geek Charming” and dated for five years before splitting in August 2014.
More than a decade later, Hyland said the damage hasn’t faded.

In October 2024, the former “Love Island USA” host opened up to domestic violence survivors. She explained that painful memories don’t simply disappear, often remaining “in that abused place of your soul.”
“It’s almost like you don’t wanna talk about it anymore,” Hyland told Variety at the time. “You want it to be done, and that’s that. I completely understand the dissociation pattern of it.”

Hyland, who has been married to “Bachelor” franchise alum Wells Adams since 2022, said the impact of abuse can be lasting.
“I don’t know if that part [of] any woman will ever be fully healed from that,” she continued. “It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit.”
New research shows how chewing gum affects brain activity and stress levels
Humans have been chewing gum for thousands of years — long after the flavor fades and without any clear nutritional benefit.
The habit dates back at least 8,000 years to Scandinavia, where people chewed birch bark pitch to soften it into a glue for tools. Other ancient cultures, including the Greeks, Native Americans and the Maya, also chewed tree resins for pleasure or soothing effects, National Geographic recently reported.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, William Wrigley Jr. transformed chewing gum from a novelty into a mass consumer habit through relentless and innovative marketing. His brands, including Juicy Fruit and Spearmint, promoted gum as a way to calm nerves, curb hunger and stay focused.
COMMON DENTAL HEALTH ISSUE MAY HINT AT MORE DANGEROUS MEDICAL CONDITION
“Are you worried? Chew gum,” an article from 1916 said, according to Kerry Segrave’s book “Chewing Gum in America, 1850-1920: The Rise of an Industry.” “Do you lie awake at night? Chew gum,” it continued. “Are you depressed? Is the world against you? Chew gum.”
In the 1940s, a study found chewing resulted in lower tension, but couldn’t say why. “The gum-chewer relaxes and gets more work done,” the New York Times wrote at the time about the study’s results.
Gum became an early form of wellness, and companies are trying to revive that idea today as gum sales decline, according to National Geographic.
GARLIC EXTRACT RIVALS TRADITIONAL MOUTHWASH FOR DENTAL HYGIENE IN SURPRISING NEW REVIEW
But only now are scientists finally beginning to understand the biology behind those long-standing beliefs.
A 2025 review by researchers at the University of Szczecin in Poland analyzed more than three decades of brain-imaging studies to examine what happens inside the brain when people chew gum. Using MRI, EEG and near-infrared spectroscopy research, the authors found that chewing alters brain activity in regions tied to movement, attention and stress regulation.
The findings help clarify why the seemingly pointless task can feel calming or focusing, even once the flavor has faded.

Chewing gum activated not only the brain’s motor and sensory networks involved in chewing, but also higher-order regions linked to attention, alertness and emotional control, the review found. EEG studies found brief shifts in brain-wave patterns linked to heightened alertness and what researchers call “relaxed concentration.”
“If you’re doing a fairly boring task for a long time, chewing seems to be able to help with concentration,” Crystal Haskell-Ramsay, a professor of biological psychology at Northumbria University, told National Geographic.
The review also supports earlier findings that gum chewing can ease stress, but only in certain situations. In laboratory experiments, people who chewed gum during mildly stressful tasks such as public speaking or mental math often reported lower anxiety levels than those who didn’t.

Chewing gum did not, however, consistently reduce anxiety in high-stress medical situations, such as immediately before surgery, and it offered no clear benefit when participants faced unsolvable problems designed to induce frustration.
Across multiple studies, people who chewed gum did not remember lists of words or stories better than those who didn’t, the researchers also found, and any boost in attention faded soon after chewing stopped.
Gum may simply feed the desire to fidget, experts suspect.

“Although these effects are often short-lived, the range of outcomes … underscores chewing gum’s capacity to modulate brain function beyond simple oral motor control,” the researchers wrote.
“However, at this time, the neural changes associated with gum chewing cannot be directly linked to the positive behavioral and functional outcomes observed in studies,” they added.
Future research should address longer-term impacts, isolate flavor or stress variables and explore potential therapeutic applications, the scientists said.

The findings also come with caveats beyond brain science. Although sugar-free gum may help reduce cavities, Fox News Digital has previously reported that dentists warn acids, sweeteners and excessive chewing may harm teeth or trigger other side effects.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the study’s authors for comment.
Major cruise line bans kids, betting travelers want adults-only serenity at sea
A major cruise line is officially going adults-only, joining a growing group of brands betting that travelers are seeking tranquility over kid-friendly activities.
Oceania Cruises, a Miami-based company that operates eight luxury ships sailing across Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, South America, Asia, Africa and Australia, announced this month it will begin welcoming only guests age 18 and older for new reservations.
“Our guests have consistently shared that the tranquil environment aboard our ships is one of the primary reasons they return time and time again,” Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises, said in a statement.
“By transitioning to an adults-only experience, we are enhancing the very essence of the Oceania Cruises journey — one defined by sophistication, serenity and discovery.”
CRUISE LINE AMBASSADOR REFUTES ‘NONSENSE’ RUMOR ABOUT HIGHER DRINK PACKAGE LIMIT
The company said the policy shift reflects its commitment to providing a “relaxed atmosphere of genuine hospitality and meaningful connection.”
All bookings made before Jan. 7, 2026, that include guests under 18 will still be honored, the company added.
Many guests already thought Oceania was only for adults because there were so few kids aboard many of its ships, Chief Commercial Officer Nathan Hickman told USA Today.
The average Oceania passenger is in the mid-60s, and Hickman joked that the extent of kids’ programming had been a “ping-pong table on the pool deck.”

“We’re not trying to be all things to all people,” Hickman told the outlet. “We’re going to be very narrowly defined, and we’re not even changing who our target guest is. It’s the same person.”
The change will help the cruise line “manage expectations,” he added.
The new policy also further differentiates Oceania from its luxury sister line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, which still welcomes travelers under 18, the website Cruise Critic noted.
Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, along with Norwegian Cruise Line, all operate under the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings umbrella.

Fox News Digital reached out to Oceania Cruises for comment.
“Adults-only cruising is appealing to a wide range of travelers, and that goes for travelers who don’t have kids as well as those who do,” Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic, told Parade.
“Adults-only cruise lines are consistently some of the highest-rated among reviewers on Cruise Critic, and the adults-only experience is often the most-praised part of the cruise for those travelers.”
“Sailing with families is a wonderful part of cruising, but our cruisers tell us [that] sometimes, they’re just looking for a break,” McDaniel added.

Only a handful of cruise lines are completely adults-only, including Virgin Voyages and Viking Cruises. The concept is expanding both through new adult-exclusive policies such as Oceania’s, as well as designated adult-focused sailings on mainstream lines.
Carnival Cruise Line recently announced it will add more adults-only sailings in 2026 through its SEA (Sailings Exclusively for Adults) program, which features invite-only cruises reserved for guests 21 and older with expanded casino access and themed parties, according to multiple reports.
Some cruise lines also restrict certain areas of their ships to adults.
That includes Carnival’s Serenity Deck, which is open to guests 21 and older; Royal Caribbean’s Solarium, an adults-only oasis with pools, hot tubs and loungers for passengers typically 16 and up; and Norwegian Cruise Line, which offers designated adult-only areas on its ships.

Even Disney Cruise Line caters to adults, offering designated adults-only pools, upscale lounges and fine-dining restaurants separate from kid’s spaces.
Iranian embassy in London targeted as regime threatens protesters with death penalty
An anti-regime protester scaled the balcony of Iran’s Embassy in London on Friday and tore down the Islamic Republic’s flag, replacing it with Iran’s pre-1979 “Lion and Sun” emblem, video shows.
The demonstrator climbed the front of the embassy building in Kensington before ripping down the regime’s flag and hoisting the historic symbol associated with Iran’s monarchy prior to the 1979 Islamic Revolution as a large crowd of anti-regime protesters cheered on.
The Metropolitan Police said officers responded to the scene and made two arrests — one for aggravated trespass and assault on an emergency worker, and another for aggravated trespass. Police said they are also seeking another individual for trespass. It was not immediately clear whether the protester who tore down the flag was among those arrested.
Fox News Digital reached out to Iran’s Embassy in London for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
EXILED IRANIAN PRINCE SAYS REGIME ‘VERY CLOSE TO COLLAPSING’ AMID NATIONWIDE UNREST
The embassy protest comes as Iran faces its most significant wave of unrest in years. President Trump has warned the regime that the U.S. will protect protesters if necessary.
Potkin Azarmehr, a British-Iranian journalist, said the current unrest stands in sharp contrast to Iran’s 2009 Green Movement, when protesters openly questioned whether the Obama administration supported them.
“What a contrast to Obama’s time, when protesters in Iran were chanting, ‘Obama, are you with us or with them?’” Azarmehr told Fox News Digital.
“Any international support, whether at the grassroots or government level, is encouraging,” he said.
He said global attention matters to protesters on the ground, but questioned the lack of visible demonstrations by Western activist groups.
“The question is where are the Western activist elite protesters? Why are they not protesting? Are they on the side of the ayatollahs? An archaic religious apartheid?”
GRAHAM WARNS IRANIAN AYATOLLAH: ‘TRUMP IS GONNA KILL YOU’ IF INTERNAL CRACKDOWN CONTINUES
Demonstrations that began on Dec. 28 over economic grievances have since spread nationwide, evolving into a direct challenge to Iran’s clerical leadership. Solidarity protests with Iranian demonstrators have also emerged in other major European cities, including Paris and Berlin. A protest also took place outside the White House in Washington, D.C.
As of Saturday, at least 72 people have been killed and more than 2,300 detained in Iran-based protests, according to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency.
Some protests have included chants supporting Iran’s former monarch, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who died in 1980. His son, Reza Pahlavi, has publicly called for continued demonstrations. The Iranian regime has also cut nationwide internet access.
At a press conference in Washington, D.C., on Friday, Trump said Iran was facing mounting pressure.
“Iran’s in big trouble,” Trump said. “It looks to me that the people are taking over certain cities that nobody thought were really possible just a few weeks ago. We’re watching the situation very carefully.”
Trump warned the United States would respond forcefully if the regime resorts to mass violence.
“We’ll be hitting them very hard where it hurts,” Trump said. “And that doesn’t mean boots on the ground, but it means hitting them very, very hard where it hurts.”
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has signaled a coming clampdown despite U.S. warnings, according to The Associated Press.
Tehran escalated its threats Saturday, with Iran’s attorney general, Mohammad Movahedi Azad, warning that anyone taking part in protests would be considered an “enemy of God,” a charge that carries the death penalty. The statement, carried by Iranian state television, said even those who “helped rioters” would face the charge.

“Prosecutors must carefully and without delay, by issuing indictments, prepare the grounds for the trial and decisive confrontation with those who, by betraying the nation and creating insecurity, seek foreign domination over the country,” the statement read.
“Proceedings must be conducted without leniency, compassion or indulgence.”
