Understanding the different types of precipitation

You’ve probably read or heard about freezing rain and sleet this weekend – but what are they? Rain occurs when temperatures are above freezing throughout most of the atmosphere. Rain sometimes even starts off as snow and then melts on the way down if there’s enough warm air in the atmosphere.

Freezing rain = ice. This occurs when rain falls through the atmosphere and freezes immediately on hitting the ground. Ice begins to accrete on just about everything and can make travel treacherous. Just a few hundredths of an inch of ice is enough to make roads slick. Once you get a quarter to half inch of ice building up, you’re talking tree damage and power outages as the weight of the ice pulls down branches and power lines.

Sleet starts with a snowflake. Those snowflakes fall into a layer of warm air sitting above the surface of the earth and start melting. But then they fall into another layer of air that is below freezing and start to refreeze again. These ice pellets bounce when they hit the ground and can be quite loud when there’s a lot of them hitting at once.

FOX Weather is tracking all four types of precipitation falling right now as the extreme winter storm wallops the nation.

Analysis: how a snow thump could lead to whiteout conditions in NYC & Philadelphia

New York and Philadelphia are bracing for the most snow they’ve seen in years and it just might come in a hurry. The FOX Forecast Center says extreme “frontogenesis” could create whiteout conditions along Interstate 95 on Sunday.

Frontogenesis is the process by which warm, moist air slams into cold air arctic, resulting in rising air, fueling intense snow rates. This area of frontogensis is expected to slide north along I-95 on Sunday, triggering extreme snow rates of 2-3 inches per hour along the I-95 corridor. Winter weather experts call it a “snow thump” because it hits quick and lays down significant snow in just an hour or two.

It’s this “thump” of snow that is expected to deliver higher totals on Sunday around midday. As the day goes on and that warmer air continues to surge north, the snow may mix with sleet as warmer air moves in aloft, partially melting snowflakes as they fall.

Analysis: snow in Nashville now, full-blown ice storm later

A look at the pictures out of Nashville, Tennessee may have you thinking that things are okay – it’s just snow. But a big change is coming, and it’s not good.

The FOX Forecast Center is analyzing radar data, specifically Correlation Coefficient, which can help meteorologists discern different types of wintry precipitation. Current radar shows the sleet line (circled area on the map) creeping north. Meteorologists say it will continue to push north through the afternoon, and Nashville will see its snow change to sleet and then very quickly freezing rain thereafter.

Tonight, a full-blown ice storm will hit the city. FOX Weather expects up to 3/4″ of ice. That will be crippling on its own, but to fall on 2-4″ of snow is even worse. Tonight’s freezing rain will freeze instantly on the snow and make it even harder to clear. And the weight of that ice will weigh down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages.

Analysis: why OKC is waking up to less snow than expected

Oklahomans are waking up to less snow than expected this morning. Radar estimates only a few inches of snow have fallen overnight in the OKC metro area, less than what was predicted.

The FOX Forecast Center explains suppression is to blame. Frigid air moving in at the surface overwhelmed and suppressed the milder, moist air flowing in above it. This essentially cutoff the firehose of moisture from reaching central Oklahoma.

Forecasters caution that people shouldn’t think it’s over. A second round of heavier snow is expected to hit the Sooner State later tonight into early Sunday. And things will be different this time around with a more classic winter storm setup allowing for heftier snow totals.

Federal officer’s finger bitten off during Minneapolis unrest, DHS says

Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin shared a photo on social media Saturday of a federal law enforcement officer‘s severed finger after an anti-ICE agitator in Minneapolis allegedly bit it off.

“In Minneapolis, these rioters attacked our law enforcement officer and one of them bit off our HSI officer’s finger,” McLaughlin wrote in the post. “He will lose his finger.”

She shared photos of two people seemingly in custody, though it is unclear which person is the alleged biter.

Additional details surrounding the assault have not yet been released, though ongoing protests have escalated following the deaths of two U.S. citizens during immigration enforcement operations in the blue city.

ICE SAYS 2 DEMONSTRATORS WERE ARRESTED IN MINNESOTA FOR ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING OFFICERS

Hours before McLaughlin’s post, a Border Patrol agent was seen on video fatally shooting an armed man in Minneapolis amid a crowd of agitators.

The 37-year-old man, a U.S. citizen from Minneapolis, allegedly approached agents and then “violently resisted,” while armed with a 9mm pistol and two magazines, according to Homeland Security officials.

Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino said during a news conference on Saturday it “look[ed] like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”

MAN ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED WITH FLAGPOLE BY MINNEAPOLIS ANTI-ICE AGITATORS IN VIOLENT PARKING GARAGE ATTACK

“About 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement,” Bovino said. “We will not allow violence against our law enforcement officers, and we need state and local help. … [Minneapolis] Mayor [Jacob] Frey and [Minneapolis Police Department] Chief Brian O’Hara, just a few minutes ago, did the opposite of that by omitting the fact that the suspect had a gun and magazines full of ammunition.”

He reiterated that those who obstruct law enforcement are in violation of the law and will be arrested.

The Minnesota National Guard confirmed on Saturday that in addition to troops previously mobilized at the direction of Gov. Tim Walz, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office requested additional support and more soldiers will be brought in.

President Donald Trump on Saturday said he plans to skip next month’s Super Bowl, slamming the halftime performers and griping that the California game is too far away.

Trump, who attended last year’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans, told the New York Post: “It’s just too far away. I would, I’ve [gotten] great hands [at] the Super Bowl. They like me.”

This year’s Super Bowl will be held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, near San Jose.

He added, “I would go if, you know, it was a little bit shorter.”

The president has also been openly critical of headline performer Bad Bunny since he was chosen last year to perform at the Halftime Show.

“I don’t know who he is,” Trump told Newsmax of the choice last fall. “I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Rock band Green Day was also selected in the last week to play before the kickoff.

KRISTI NOEM TORCHES NFL AS ‘WEAK,’ VOWS ICE WILL SHOW UP AT SUPER BOWL AMID BAD BUNNY SCANDAL

Bad Bunny and Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong are both liberal performers who have been vocal about their dislike of Trump in the past.

Bad Bunny said last fall that he decided to do his residency show in his native Puerto Rico and didn’t book any U.S. dates on his tour over fears his fans would be detained by ICE agents.

“But there was the issue of, like, f—ing ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” the Latin pop star, who has a large Latino following, told i-D.

The 31-year-old also featured a person doing a Trump impression in his song “Nuevayol,” saying, “I want to apologize to the immigrants in America. . . . This country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans.”

Armstrong has likened Trump to Hitler in the past and the band frequently changes the line “I’m not part of a redneck agenda” from their 2004 hit “American Idiot” to “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda” in more recent live performances, according to The Independent.

“I’m anti-them,” Trump told the Post of the performers. “I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.”

“Real quick, I want to say this. Those of y’all that are new, when y’all head up to the facilities in the morning, be mindful of who comes in with you, especially on the elevator. Don’t let somebody coerce you into scanning them up on the floor, because everybody’s trying to get to Coach Prime. Those people that are trying to get to them, not all of them have good intentions. So just be mindful of that, don’t prop open any doors, because my philosophy is, if the doors open, they will come through. Then they’re gonna have to meet me.”

Sanders then cited being a “Black man” for his constant death threats.

“We get death threats all the time,” Sanders said. “Why? I’m a Black man making it happen, making things move, making all that happen. So we have stuff that’s real.”

Sanders then asked Rhodes, “How many death threats we get?”

“About five every day,” Rhodes said.

Sanders’ life and wellbeing has been a topic of concern over the last year.

3 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN $200K BURGLARY OF BROWNS STAR SHEDEUR SANDERS’ HOME, POLICE ANNOUNCE

Last June, reports surfaced that the Pro Football Hall of Famer was sidelined with an unspecified illness.

In July, Sanders revealed he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. During a news conference with his doctors, Sanders shared that a portion of his intestine had been surgically reconstructed to function as a bladder.

Following his bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment, Sanders frequently needed to use the restroom, so the school introduced a portable sideline bathroom for him during games.

Then, during a postgame press conference in October, Sanders predicted he was facing more blood clots after previously being impacted by them.

“Cat’s out of the bag, all right. I think I’ve got more blood clots,” Sanders said. “It don’t make sense. I’m hurting like crazy… I’m not getting blood to my leg. That’s why my leg is throbbing.”

The blood clot issue resulted in the amputation of two toes on his left foot in 2021. Sanders was coaching at Jackson State at the time. In 2023, the two-time Super Bowl champion missed Pac-12 media day to address a blood clot in his right leg and another surgery to correct curved toes on his left foot.

“I’m going to go in there [surgery], and I’m going to get some of the best sleep in the world for, I think, four hours, the surgery is going to be,” Sanders said Tuesday.

“I’ve never been high a day in my life. I’ve never drank, smoked or anything. But when I get those surgeries, I am there on time.”

US fights back as Canada allegedly manipulates event to keep American out of Olympics

Five-time Team USA Olympian Katie Uhlaender was on her way to making her sixth Winter Games. But then a decision by Team Canada took it all away.

With a shot at qualifying during the North American Skeleton Cup in Lake Placid, New York, earlier this month, Canada withdrew four of its athletes from competition. The withdrawal shrunk the total amount of points the competition could award, making it impossible for Uhlaender to earn enough for Olympic qualification.

Four Canadian women’s skeleton athletes were withdrawn just before competition. Under International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) rules, only 75% of points were issued, mathematically eliminating Uhlaender from Milan-Cortina before the first heat even began.

One of the Canadian athletes said the coaches said the reason for the withdrawal was due to “the best interest for the way points had worked.”

“They had come over and explained to us that it would be in the best interest for the way points had worked for Jane, so that we as a team can qualify two spots to the Olympics,” Canadian skeleton racer Madeline Parra told The Canadian Press.

Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS) said the decision to withdraw the athletes was made “after careful evaluation of the program’s needs and in consultation with the IBSF” and “careful consideration of athlete health, safety, and long-term development.”

“It was determined that continuing to race these athletes was not in their best interests, nor in the best interests of the program,” it added.

For Uhlaender, at 41 years old, the outcome was hard to swallow, but she also feels for every other competitor affected. So, now she is fighting back.

“It hurt all of us,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “So, when I turned, and I looked at these young women, because I’m a senior I’ve been to five Olympics, this would be my sixth.

“So, some of these girls are trying to make their first, and they’re young … so I thought it was my duty as an American Olympian and someone who believes in doing the right thing to say something.”

US-BORN OLYMPIC FREESKIER EILEEN GU DODGES QUESTIONS ABOUT CITIZENSHIP AFTER WINNING GOLD FOR CHINA

Uhlaender has lobbied the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to submit a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), asking for an additional Olympic spot for her. Fox News Digital has obtained a copy of the letter.

“These actions circumvented the Olympic qualification principles, undermined fair competition, and ultimately deprived Ms. Uhlaender of the opportunity to compete in the XXV Milan-Cortina Winter Games,” the letter, signed by USOPC Chief of Sport & Athlete Services Rocky Harris, said.

“It is undeniable that Ms. Uhlaender deserves to go to the Olympic Games.”

Uhlaender previously submitted an appeal to the IBS, and says she had to pay a $5,000 fee to do it.

IBSF’s Interim Integrity Unit investigated allegations of competition manipulation. It acknowledged the withdrawals raised concern but concluded the governing rules allow teams to withdraw athletes at any time. Because the rulebook contains no penalty or safeguard for late withdrawals that alter points distribution, the IIU dismissed the complaint.

But Uhlaender didn’t back down, vowing to challenge the decision further and even rallied international support behind her cause.

Belgium, South Korea, the Virgin Islands, Malta, Israel and Denmark’s teams have all put their support behind Uhlaender’s efforts, sending letters of support to the USOPC to try and have the event further investigated.

“My friends in Denmark and I, we haven’t talked about Greenland once,” Uhlaender joked.

Uhlaender has even said that some Canadian athletes are privately supporting her in this battle.

She is not ruling out taking the issue to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) until it is resolved.

Vice President JD Vance will lead the U.S. Presidential Delegation to the Milan-Cortina Olympics next month. Uhlaender hopes the vice president will advocate for her participation.

“As U.S. Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to meet with the leadership of the International Olympic Committee, I respectfully ask that he stand with me as an Olympian that has represented the United States of America and our values, the USOPC, and the many affected nations in supporting our request to IOC President Kirsty Coventry to use her authority to uphold fairness in Olympic sport by granting a wildcard entry,” Uhlaender said.

“Doing so would protect the integrity of competition and prevent further harm. Such action would send a powerful message to young athletes everywhere: that standing up for ethics and integrity may be difficult, but it matters.”

Pennsylvania county gives ICE ‘taste of their own medicine’ and tries to ‘deport’ them

A swing-district congressman is firing back at officials in his Pennsylvania county who called a news conference Thursday to demand Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) be “evicted” from county buildings while questioning the “legitimacy” of federal law enforcement.

Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-Pa., told Fox News Digital that Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, officials were wrong to try to boot ICE from office space in the county, where he said federal immigration enforcement already has arrested numerous illegal immigrants convicted of theft and violent crimes, including indecent assault on a minor.

But county Controller Mark Pinsley and newly elected Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, executive Josh Siegel saw it differently after headlining a news conference Thursday to demand ICE leave the area with Siegel referring to the reported rent arrears as “blood money.”

The county is demanding immediate payment of “unpaid rent” in the amount of $115,000 and “termination of all negotiations with DHS,” the Department of Homeland Security, according to information provided by a representative for Pinsley.

SEN JOHN FETTERMAN CALLS FOR DEMOCRATS TO ‘RESIST’ ADVOCACY OF ‘EXTREME’ STANCES LIKE ABOLISHING ICE

“Politics should never get in the way of allowing law enforcement to do its job. Instead of negotiating in good faith with (Homeland Security Investigations), Mr. Pinsley has chosen to attack an office that — I’m sure he knows — works to investigate human trafficking and other serious threats,” Mackenzie told Fox News Digital.

“This dispute isn’t about rent. It’s about far-left politics — something that was made clear when the county executive announced that he didn’t want DHS’ ‘blood money’.”

The county’s seat, Allentown, Pennsylvania, is the third-largest in the state behind Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT PROMOTES ‘TACTICAL’ CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE TRAINING FOR RESIDENTS

Mackenzie said the move by county officials interferes with important criminal investigative work and that they “certainly don’t want to see radical officials sabotage federal law enforcement as they work to arrest predators, traffickers and fraudsters.”

Mackenzie referred to Siegel and Pinsley as “self-interested extremists.”

Pinsley’s office accused ICE of never fully executing a lease agreement for use of offices and that DHS purportedly occupied county-owned space for 38 months while not being mentioned in its leasing agreement.

“Lehigh County should not be in business with an agency whose actions create fear instead of safety,” Pinsley said. “We can give them a taste of their own medicine. We are going to deport ICE.”

Pinsley said he asked county administrators to inform Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to “pack your masks, tear gas and pepper balls and hit the road.”

LA COUNTY EYES ‘ICE-FREE ZONES’ ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY DESPITE $1B IN FEDERAL FUNDING AT RISK

“This is not simply a financial matter. It is a question of values, accountability and whether county government should lend legitimacy or resources to an agency whose conduct has caused widespread fear among working families,” Pinsley added.

Siegel doubled down on that assertion, according to WFMZ-69 News, saying, “I think their presence is a threat to public safety and public trust, and, so, yes, we will be issuing an eviction notice,” Siegel told the outlet, giving ICE 30 days to vacate.

“The department’s failure to pay rent, combined with DHS’ national reputation for recklessness, chaos and public disorder warrants ending any relationship with the county. We will not accept their blood money,” Siegel added at the news conference, according to City & State PA.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan told the outlet that DHS has been helpful locally in human trafficking investigations and that he would pay the federal agency’s rent for them out of money the county collects through drug asset forfeiture to maintain a partnership.

“The only thing ICE has to do with this press conference today is to get headlines for the people holding that press conference,” said the prosecutor, an elected Republican who was however censured by the county GOP for endorsing Siegel’s 2025 run.

Pinsley told WFMZ he is thankful for Holihan’s work and that his partnership with the feds can continue so long as it is not in a county-owned building.

“They don’t need to be in our building, especially if they’re not paying,” he told the outlet.

Fox News Digital reached out to Lehigh County government for comment from Siegel, the county’s Republicans and the Department of Homeland Security.

Legendary actress Shirley MacLaine was spotted out during a rare public outing in Los Angeles.

The 91-year-old “Postcards from the Edge” star was photographed leaving Nobu in Malibu, California, Jan. 18.

In the photograph, MacLaine walks arm in arm with a young man wearing a red T-shirt and jeans. MacLaine was sporting a green T-shirt and khaki pants.

Over the years, sightings of the actress have become rare. However, she was also spotted getting a bite to eat with some friends earlier this month.

SISSY SPACEK CREDITS STAGE NAME TO HER BROTHERS, SOUTHERN ROOTS

MacLaine got her start as an actress in 1955, making her film debut in Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Trouble with Harry.” Her career quickly took off after she received her first Academy Award nomination just three years later for her role in “Some Came Running.”

Throughout her career, she received one Academy Award for her performance in “Terms of Endearment,” six Golden Globe Awards, an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, a Kennedy Center Honor and much more.

The actress reflected on her career and how much she thinks the industry has changed since the ’50s, during an interview with Extra in March 2024.

“The glamour’s gone out of it, I’m afraid. I think it’s entirely different,” MacLaine said. “It’s 100% different.”

‘AVATAR’ STAR SIGOURNEY WEAVER ADMITS SHE IGNORED HER MOM’S HARSH WARNING THAT HOLLYWOOD ‘WILL EAT YOU ALIVE’

She also noted that the private lives of celebrities were more protected by the studio heads during Hollywood’s golden age but joked she isn’t affected by it because “I’m kind of open anyway, and I don’t have much to hide.”

After decades in the industry, MacLaine told People in July 2019 she doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon, joking that she thinks some of her “costars are surprised I’m still walking upright.” She added, “I want to be a spokesperson for older women — probably because I’m one.”

MacLaine is not the only member of her family to find success in Hollywood. Her younger brother is “Bonnie and Clyde” star Warren Beatty. In her 2024 Memoir, “The Wall of Life,” she shared that she isn’t sure why they have never worked together.

“I don’t know what happened there,” she said. “I was busy making my own [movies], and he was busy making his own. I guess there weren’t parts that fit us together. I don’t know. But we did not do it on purpose.”

Beatty found great success in his career, winning an Academy Award in 1982 for directing the movie “Reds,” which he was also nominated for in the lead actor category.

In addition to those nominations, he was nominated 12 other times at the Oscars and won three Golden Globe Awards for acting and directing.

“I’ve often wondered why he made it, too,” she said in her book regarding her brother’s success. “Because when you’re that young, you don’t realize how talented your siblings are. I knew he was going to be handsome, and I took care of him until I left. He was just my little brother.”

Giants’ Cam Skattebo says college earnings are changing rookie attitudes in the NFL

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo said rookies are built differently nowadays, but he wasn’t talking about their on-the-field play. He was referring to their attitudes.

Skattebo, who just finished his rookie season, said the players coming out of college think they are “hot s—” because they enter the NFL having already made substantial money through NIL in college.

“The rookies that come in have made $2-$3 million in college, like they think they hot s—,” Skattebo said during a recent appearance on the “Roommates Show.”

“Like, there could be a vet that’s been in the league for three years, four years, and this rookie could have come from college and already made more money than him.”

Skattebo said he wasn’t talking about any of the rookies on the Giants, but he has seen rookies who have made money enter the NFL with a sense of entitlement.

“You could just tell by the way these college kids act now,” Skattebo said. “There’s some people act right, some people don’t care that there was ever such thing as a rookie situation.”

STEELERS CLOSING IN ON MIKE MCCARTHY AS NEXT COACH, POSSIBLE REUNION WITH AARON RODGERS: REPORTS

Skattebo said the veterans say that rookies don’t listen compared to years ago. The 23-year-old said he was a “good rook” and did what was asked of him.

“I got rookie duties cause I’m a rookie, and I’m not going to sit there and say, ‘No, f— you.’ If my vets tell me to go get some snacks for the running back room for weeks in and weeks out, like I’m going to go get the snacks,” Skattebo said.

“Some rookies are going to tell you, like, ‘Bro, I’m not going to get you snacks, bro. You can go get your own snacks.’ I’m not going to say no names, but there’s some rookies that do that.”

Skattebo, a fourth-round pick out of Arizona State, endeared himself to Giants fans with his style of play. In eight games before a season-ending injury, Skattebo had 410 yards and five rushing touchdowns while averaging just over four yards per carry.

He also had 24 catches for 207 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Denise Austin is celebrating nearly four decades in fitness — and proving that consistency pays off.

The legendary workout icon, now 68 and a mother of two, recently shared striking then-and-now photos highlighting her longevity in the industry.

She paired an image from one of her earliest VHS cover shoots in the late 1980s with a recent magazine cover from her “Fit Over 50: Vitality for Life” shoot.

DENISE AUSTIN, 68, STILL FITS INTO HER ICONIC ’80S LEOTARDS AND REVEALS HER DAILY FITNESS HABIT

“THEN and NOW!!!! Here I am in 1988. The ‘then’ photo is from one of my first VHS cover photoshoots!! And the ‘now’ is from my recent ‘Fit Over 50: Vitality for Life’ magazine cover shoot!! So fun!!” Austin wrote on Instagram.

Austin wore a classic white one-piece swimsuit with a front zipper — and stunned in the exact same look more than 30 years later.

“I have sooo many wonderful memories throughout ALL these years being in the fitness industry!!!! And I feel such a deep sense of gratification because I truly LOVE what I do!!” she continued.

“And I want to thank all of you for ALL these years of support! It’s because of YOU I keep going!! Let’s celebrate LONGEVITY together!!! Love you all!!! Xoxoxo.”

The fitness guru has previously told Fox News Digital that her viral throwback posts aren’t meant to show off — but to show what consistency actually looks like.

JANE SEYMOUR MAINTAINS THE SAME SIZE SINCE AGE 17 WITHOUT CRAZY DIETS

She said the images are a reminder that long-term results come from showing up day after day, year after year — not from quick fixes or trends.

The nostalgia also hits close to home. Austin said she has kept many of the outfits from her early workout days, and they are now getting a second life.

ELIZABETH HURLEY, CHRISTIE BRINKLEY AND JEWEL LEAD STARS OVER 50 IN AGE-DEFYING SWIMSUIT PHOTOS

“I saved all of my leotards from back in the day, from the ’80s and ’90s, which I used to wear on my videos and on my TV show,” she laughed. “I’m so happy I kept them all because [my daughter] Katie loves to wear them. My other daughter, Kelly, loves to wear them too.”

Austin said staying active in her 60s is less about appearance and more about independence and energy.

“It’s a testament to me being 68 now and keeping it up,” she said. “That’s all it takes — keeping it up, keeping up with your workouts. And to me, I think it’s a really cool thing. It’s nostalgic for me, and it shows me that if you do start exercising, it does matter and you’ll feel good. And it’s all about feeling good for me.”

For Austin, health outweighs everything else, regardless of your bank account or background.

“I want to feel healthy,” she continued. “If you have money, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have good health. And no matter who you are, you just have to do something for yourself.”

Her advice focuses on movement, even in small doses, she emphasized.

“Did you know that just standing up burns more calories than sitting down?” Austin said. “So, I tell people to get up throughout the day. If you’re on your phone, walk and talk while you’re on the phone. The more you move, the better it is for your circulation, which also helps your whole body.”

Austin’s advice is backed by a career that helped shape the home fitness industry.

She hosted the No. 1 exercise show on television for 24 years and sold more than 25 million fitness tapes and DVDs, cementing her status as one of the most successful home-workout creators of all time.
