Don Lemon released from custody after LA court appearance
Former CNN host Don Lemon was released from custody without bail Friday following his court appearance in Los Angeles.
Lemon, wearing a tan suit and a tan collarless shirt, was escorted into the courtroom without restraints. Showing support for Lemon in the courtroom was his husband as well as Democratic LA Mayor Karen Bass.
His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9 in Minneapolis.
DON LEMON TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR HIS INVOLVEMENT IN LIVESTREAMING PROTEST AT MINNESOTA CHURCH
Lemon was charged with conspiracy to deprive rights and violation of the FACE Act for his involvement in the anti-ICE protest that disrupted services at a Minnesota church. Lemon was in Los Angeles to cover the Grammy Awards at the time of his arrest.
“Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done,” Lemon’s attorney Abbe Lowell said in a statement. “The First Amendment exists to protect journalists whose role it is to shine light on the truth and hold those in power accountable. There is no more important time for people like Don to be doing this work.”
DON LEMON RESPONDS TO TRUMP DOJ’S THREAT, STANDS BY COVERAGE OF ANTI-ICE PROTEST AT MINNESOTA CHURCH
Lowell continued, “Instead of investigating the federal agents who killed two peaceful Minnesota protesters, the Trump Justice Department is devoting its time, attention and resources to this arrest, and that is the real indictment of wrongdoing in this case. This unprecedented attack on the First Amendment and transparent attempt to distract attention from the many crises facing this administration will not stand. Don will fight these charges vigorously and thoroughly in court.”
A federal magistrate judge previously rejected the Justice Department’s initial attempt to bring charges against Lemon. The DOJ then sought an indictment from a Minnesota grand jury.
Lemon went viral earlier this month for livestreaming left-wing agitators who stormed St. Paul’s Cities Church during Sunday services. Lemon has maintained he was there as a journalist, not as a protester. In the indictment, however, the DOJ accuses him of coordinating with the protest organizers before they arrived at the church.
Agitators disrupted the service and “intimidated, harassed, oppressed, and terrorized the parishioners, including young children, and caused the service to be cut short,” according to a federal affidavit.
Churchgoers told law enforcement that members of their parish attempted to retrieve their children from a childcare area located downstairs, but the agitators were blocking the stairs, and the parents were unable to get to their children. One churchgoer later expressed fear that the agitators may have guns underneath their jackets and noted that aisles were blocked, making it difficult to leave.
The protesters targeted Cities Church with the suspicion that its pastor was an ICE collaborator.
The Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) blasted the arrest.
“Two federal courts flatly rejected prosecuting Lemon because the evidence for these vindictive and unconstitutional charges was insufficient, and Lemon has every right to document news and inform the public. Instead of accepting that humiliating defeat, the government has now doubled down,” FPF Chief of Advocacy Seth Stern said.
“The unmistakable message is that journalists must tread cautiously because the government is looking for any way to target them,” he continued. “The answer to this outrageous attack is not fear or self-censorship. It’s an even stronger commitment to journalism, the truth, and the First Amendment.”
CNN also defended Lemon, who was terminated by the network in 2023.
The FACE Act makes it a federal crime, with potentially steep fines and jail time, to use or threaten to use force to “injure, intimidate, or interfere” with a person seeking reproductive health services, or with a person lawfully trying to exercise the First Amendment right of religious freedom at a place of religious worship. It also prohibits intentional property damage to a facility providing reproductive health services or a place of religious worship.

Several individuals from the protest face similar charges, including Georgia Fort, an independent journalist who, like Lemon, said she was at the church to cover the protest.
Trump brokers last-minute funding deal as Senate Republicans swallow bitter pill
Senate Republicans and Democrats locked in an agreement to move forward with a behemoth funding package, smashing through resistance on both sides of the aisle.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., teed up the final vote for the package Friday after hours of quelling resistance among Senate Republicans. Lawmakers will plow through several amendments before voting on the package, which is expected to pass and head to the House.
That also means that, despite their best efforts, a government shutdown is all but guaranteed given that the deadline to fund the government is midnight Friday.
TRUMP, SCHUMER REACH GOVERNMENT FUNDING DEAL, SACRIFICE DHS SPENDING BILL IN THE PROCESS
The move came after President Donald Trump intervened to strike a deal with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Thursday, which will strip out the controversial Department of Homeland Security funding bill and tee up a two-week funding extension to keep the agency afloat.
Trump urged Senate Republicans to support the plan in a post on Truth Social, where he argued that the only thing “that can slow our Country down is another long and damaging Government Shutdown”
“I am working hard with Congress to ensure that we are able to fully fund the Government, without delay,” Trump said. “Republicans and Democrats in Congress have come together to get the vast majority of the Government funded until September, while at the same time providing an extension to the Department of Homeland Security (including the very important Coast Guard, which we are expanding and rebuilding like never before).
7 REPUBLICANS JOIN DEMS TO BLOCK MAJOR GOVERNMENT FUNDING PACKAGE AS SHUTDOWN LOOMS
“Hopefully, both Republicans and Democrats will give a very much-needed Bipartisan ‘YES’ Vote,” he continued.
It’s a bitter pill for Senate Republicans, who pushed onward with the original six-bill funding package despite Senate Democrats making clear that they would not support it if the DHS bill was still attached.
Still, the successful first step virtually guarantees that the new, skinnier five-bill bundle and two-week continuing resolution (CR) will advance out of the Senate.
SENATE GOP HOLDOUTS REFUSE TO BUDGE AS SHUTDOWN TALKS CONTINUE
But it won’t prevent a partial government shutdown.
That’s because the modification to the package, coupled with the CR for DHS, will need to be agreed to by the House, which is not in session until next week, at the earliest. From there, it is unclear how long it will take lawmakers in the lower chamber to process the bill, and resistance is mounting among angry fiscal hawks.

But Democrats aren’t walking away with everything they want, either. Before rapidly unifying behind the plan to block the DHS bill, Democratic leadership argued that a CR of any kind would effectively allow Trump to have a “slush fund” for immigration operations.
Renegotiating the Homeland Security funding bill could backfire, too, given that congressional Democrats originally agreed to the restrictions baked into the current legislation and Republicans aren’t thrilled to relitigate the bill.
Federal judge strikes down Trump’s voter citizenship verification order
A federal judge on Friday struck down key portions of President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at tightening citizenship verification for voter registration and absentee ballot applications, ruling the White House overstepped its constitutional authority.
U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said the Constitution gives states and Congress, not the president, the power to set rules for federal elections.
Kollar-Kotelly blocked provisions in the executive order that would have required documentary proof of American citizenship on federal voter registration and absentee ballot forms.
REPUBLICANS, DEMS BREAK THROUGH RESISTANCE, MOVE FORWARD WITH TRUMP-BACKED FUNDING PACKAGE
“The Constitution does not allow the President to impose unilateral changes to federal election procedures,” Kollar-Kotelly wrote, permanently enjoining the administration from implementing the challenged provisions of the order.
Trump signed the order, titled “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” on March 25.

Obama-appointed judge frees illegal immigrant MS-13 killer despite federal warnings
Despite a Justice Department warning, a Nevada judge recently ordered the immediate release of an illegal immigrant and MS-13 gang member convicted of murder back into the community.
U.S. District Judge Richard F. Boulware II, nominated by former President Barack Obama in 2014, ordered the Jan. 21 release of El Salvador national Harvey Laureano-Rosales, a 54-year-old who illegally entered the U.S. in 1987.
Court documents allege the government was attempting to deport Laureano-Rosales to Mexico without due process, and in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act, prompting his release.
The Nevada U.S. attorney’s office said it will seek further legal action, noting Laureano-Rosales’ release poses a risk to public safety.
FEDERAL JUDGE RULES ICE IN IOWA ILLEGALLY DETAINED MAN, TRIED TO ‘COVER ITS TRACKS’
“Our office remains committed to protecting public safety and enforcing the law remain top priorities,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada Sigal Chattah wrote in a statement. “In this matter, however, the outcome results in the release of a convicted murderer and known MS-13 gang member into the community, raising serious public-safety concerns.”
“We are deeply troubled by the risks posed to the public and will continue to pursue all lawful avenues to address those concerns and safeguard the community,” she added.
The U.S. attorney’s office said Laureano-Rosales has a final order of removal from the U.S., meaning he is required by federal law to remain in immigration custody, and releasing him conflicts with that law.
KILMAR ABREGO GARCIA SEEN FOR FIRST TIME SINCE RELEASE, PLEDGES TO ‘CONTINUE TO FIGHT’ TRUMP ADMIN
While Laureano-Rosales’ immigration case was ongoing, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ordered removal should proceed, triggering the mandatory detention period required by federal immigration law.
Court documents allege when Laureano-Rosales entered the U.S. nearly 40 years ago at age 16, he became a member of MS-13, kick-starting a violent criminal career.
He was convicted of a number of gang-related crimes, including first-degree murder, and granted parole in November 2022.
Days after being paroled, Laureano-Rosales was taken into custody by ICE, where he has remained for the last two-and-a-half years.

Attorneys claim Laureano-Rosales is no longer a part of MS-13 or the Mexican Mafia, and was not deported under the Biden administration due to fears he would be tortured or killed if sent back to El Salvador or Mexico.
Bessent reveals ‘secret’ morning habit that health expert warns against
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealed his surprising choice of breakfast during a recent interview, and it wasn’t coffee or tea.
Bessent made the unexpected personal revelation during a CBS News interview about financial literacy and Treasury initiatives.
“My deep, dark secret is I have a Dr Pepper for breakfast,” he said. “I’m not allowed to do it in the house with the children.”

“Wait, that’s your breakfast, secretary?” reporter Kelly O’Grady asked.

Dr Pepper is best enjoyed as a treat rather than a regular breakfast, said Whitney Stuart, a Texas-based dietitian and diabetes educator at Whitness Nutrition.
“As a Texas dietitian, I truly understand the deep-rooted affection Bessent has for Dr Pepper,” Stuart told Fox News Digital.
“It’s a cherished part of our culture. That said, enjoying soda for breakfast isn’t the best way to start your day.”

A 12-ounce can of Dr Pepper contains 150 calories and 39 grams of total sugars, 78% of the daily value, according to the soft drink’s nutrition label.
Stuart cited “pesky blood sugar spikes and crashes” as common side effects of drinking soda early in the day, which can end up leaving people feeling hungrier and more tired.

“Plus, over time, it might increase the risk of insulin resistance,” she said.
“Breakfast should fuel our bodies with vital protein and fiber to keep blood sugar levels steady and energy high,” she also said.

Florida couple sues fertility clinic over alleged embryo mix-up after birth of non-biological child
A Florida couple is suing a fertility clinic weeks after the woman gave birth to a baby that allegedly isn’t biologically their child.
Steven Mills and Tiffany Score gave birth to a “beautiful, healthy female child” in December, but when the couple, who are both White, realized their new daughter appeared to be “racially non-Caucasian,” they ordered genetic testing that proved she wasn’t theirs, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.
The lawsuit claims the Fertility Center of Orlando somehow implanted the wrong embryo in Score’s uterus five years after the couple had their embryos frozen at the clinic.
“Of equal concern to the Plaintiffs is the obvious possibility that someone else was implanted with one or more of their embryos and is pregnant with or has been pregnant with and is presently parenting one or more of their children,” the lawsuit, filed in Orange County, Florida on Jan. 22, added.
SPERM DONOR WITH HIDDEN CANCER GENE FATHERS NEARLY 200 KIDS, FAMILIES BLINDSIDED
The lawsuit also claims that the couple has asked the clinic to no avail to help reunite the daughter Score gave birth to with her biological parents and to find out what happened to their own frozen embryos.
They also want the clinic to pay for the genetic testing of every child born whose parents had embryos implanted at the clinic in the last five years after the couple used their services.
“An intensely strong emotional bond was created on the part of Tiffany and Steven with the unborn child Tiffany carried during the nine months of her pregnancy, and despite the certain knowledge that Shea is not their genetically matched child, the emotional bond grows stronger every minute of every day that Shea remains in their care,” the lawsuit says. “They would willingly keep her in their care; however, for the sake of both Shea and her genetic parents, they recognize that Shea should legally and morally be united with her genetic parents so long as they are fit, able and willing to take her.”
At an emergency hearing on Wednesday, lawyers on both sides said that clinic had preliminarily agreed to do genetic testing, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

However, Francis Pierce III, a lawyer for the clinic, told the Sentinel that there are privacy issues with genetically testing other babies born to patients at the clinic.
“Patients would have to agree to be tested,” he told the newspaper. Pierce added that attorneys on both sides are working for a quick settlement.

Dr. Milton McNichol, who heads the clinic, was fined $5,000 in May 2024 after a Florida State Board of Medicine routine inspection found equipment that didn’t meet “performance standards,” and non-compliance with a risk management program, according to the newspaper.
Fox News Digital has reached out to lawyers for the clinic and McNichol for comment.
Joe Rogan exposes Golden Globes fee after refusing to pay for nomination
Joe Rogan took aim at the Golden Globes after revealing he declined to pay a fee to be nominated for the awards show’s inaugural podcast category.
Speaking on his podcast, Rogan said organizers had asked him to formally submit his show for consideration, but that he had refused to pay the $500 application fee required to be nominated.
“A lot of people say, ‘Why wasn’t Joe Rogan nominated for the Golden Globes? Why did Amy Poehler win?’ I didn’t submit,” Rogan said.

“They asked me to submit to be nominated for the Golden Globes and you had to pay $500. And the $500 is like for paperwork or whatever. I said, ‘No,’” he added.
“The Joe Rogan Experience” has remained one of the most listened-to podcasts in the world and was eligible for the category. The show has ranked No. 1 on Spotify for several years and has also topped Apple Podcasts and YouTube rankings.
Rogan argued that audience reach matters more than industry awards, saying, “You can’t tell me I didn’t win. I’ve been No. 1 for six years in a row.”

Comedian Amy Poehler’s podcast “Good Hang” won the award. The decision drew criticism on social media, with users noting the podcast is less than a year old while other nominees have been on the air longer.
Rogan defended her win, saying, “I’m sure it’s good. It won. I’m sure someone must love it. If it sucked, they would give it to someone else, right?”

Gold medal sprinter begs cop not to arrest her as Olympian boyfriend is also charged
Bodycam footage obtained by Fox News Digital showed Olympic gold medal sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson “begging” an officer not to arrest her after she was caught driving recklessly.
Sgt. Gerald McDaniels, driving in the center lane, spotted the Olympian flashing her brights at the car in front of her and announced that Richardson’s Aston Martin topped 104 mph on State Road 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway in Winter Garden, Florida. The officer reached speeds of at least 110 mph in order to catch up.
“I would wipe that smile off your face,” the sergeant told Richardson upon approaching her passenger window. “You’re being stopped for dangerous, excessive speed.”

Richardson said her back tire was at 29 PSI and that her phone slipped, switching the mode in her car and causing her to speed. That did not please McDaniels.
“You’re driving at 104 miles an hour in a 65 mile-an-hour zone with subpar equipment, flashing people to get out of your lane, following too close, using every lane to pass everybody, cutting me off, passing a car on the inside shoulder with your hazard lights on. You’re going to jail for dangerous excessive speeding,” he said.
Richardson replied that she did not know she was speeding, to which the sergeant answered, “That’s why they give you a speedometer.”
“I am a law-abiding citizen, sir,” Richardson, who was arrested for assaulting her boyfriend, fellow Olympic sprinter Christian Coleman, last year, kicked off a plane in 2023, and barred from the Tokyo Olympics due to a positive marijuana test, said.
PRESIDENT TRUMP SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER BRINGING INDYCAR RACE TO DC FOR AMERICA250
After some back and forth, the officer’s decision was final, and reality set in for Richardson, who said there was “no intention” for her to break the law.
“Please sir. I really was not intentionally speeding. Sir, please. I’m begging you,” Richardson said. “Don’t take me to jail. I will do everything. Please, sir. I promise you, I don’t want to go to jail, I’m right here.”
The police report, also obtained by Fox News Digital, said that Coleman showed up to the scene and was arrested for resisting after refusing to identify himself. His car was found to have smoking paraphernalia. Another sprinter, Twanisha Terry, also arrived.
Richardson and Coleman moved past their issue last year, which occurred at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on July 27, just one week before the U.S. Track and Field Championships. Coleman declined to be a victim in the case, a police report said, and made it clear that he wanted to move on from the “sucky situation.”
Richardson has an Olympic gold medal from the 2024 4×100-meter relay in Paris, and she won the 100 meters at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Both Richardson and Coleman won world titles in 2023 and 2025 in their respective 4x100s.

Richardson settled for silver in the 100 meters in Paris, while Coleman still awaits an Olympic medal — he did win the 100 and 4×100 at the 2019 World Championships.
