House Dems break with Schumer, potentially sabotaging bipartisan deal to end shutdown

House Democrats are poised to rebel against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s spending deal with the White House, Fox News Digital is told, an act that could prolong the ongoing partial government shutdown.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., made clear to Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., that the plan by Republicans to fast-track the legislation on Monday evening would fail, four House GOP sources told Fox News Digital.

That means Johnson will need to lean heavily on his razor-thin House GOP majority to pass the bill through multiple procedural hurdles before it can see a final vote, likely Tuesday at the earliest.

The federal government has been in a partial shutdown since the wee hours of Saturday morning after Congress failed to find a compromise on the yearly budget by the end of Jan. 30.

HOUSE CONSERVATIVES SKEPTICAL AS SENATE DEAL SACRIFICING DHS SPENDING REACHED: ‘NON-STARTER’

Some areas of the government have already been funded, but spending for the departments of War, Transportation (DOT), Health and Human Services (HHS), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), among others, is now in question.

House Democrats do not feel bound by the deal their counterparts in the Senate struck with President Donald Trump’s White House, the sources told Fox News Digital.

The sources said House Democrats are also frustrated that Schumer put them in a position where they were expected to take the deal on.

TRUMP, SCHUMER REACH GOVERNMENT FUNDING DEAL, SACRIFICE DHS SPENDING BILL IN THE PROCESS

“Democrat division creates another government shutdown,” one House Republican told Fox News Digital.

But it could be difficult for House GOP leaders to corral all the votes needed as well. Multiple Republicans have already expressed concerns about the compromise requiring them to negotiate with Democrats on reining in Trump’s immigration crackdown, while others like Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., are pushing their own priorities to be included in exchange for their support.

Luna told Fox News Digital that she would not support the legislation if it did not include an unrelated measure that would require proof of citizenship in the voter registration process, a separate but widely-accepted GOP bill.

HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS DRAWS LINE ON DHS, ICE FUNDING AS MINNEAPOLIS UNREST FUELS SHUTDOWN RISK

Johnson told House Republicans in a lawmakers-only call on Friday that he hoped to pass the legislation under “suspension of the rules,” which would fast-track the bills in exchange for raising the threshold for passage from a simple majority of the chamber to two-thirds.

But now the House Rules Committee, the final gatekeeper before most chamber-wide votes, will be considering the legislation on Monday afternoon.

Then it must survive a House-wide “rule vote,” a procedural test vote that normally falls on party lines, before voting on final passage.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., signaled to Fox News Live anchor Aishah Hasnie earlier on Saturday that he expected Jeffries to go rogue on Schumer.

“We can’t trust the minority leader to be able to get his members to do the right thing. That’s the issue,” Emmer told Hasnie.

The deal that passed the Senate on Friday combined five spending bills that already passed the House, while leaving off a bipartisan plan to fund DHS.

REPUBLICANS, DEMS BREAK THROUGH RESISTANCE, MOVE FORWARD WITH TRUMP-BACKED FUNDING PACKAGE

Instead, it would fund DHS at current levels for two weeks while Democrats and Republicans could negotiate a longer-term bill that would also rein in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Democrats demanded that in the wake of federal law enforcement-involved killings of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis during anti-ICE demonstrations there.

But Jeffries made no promises on the deal after it passed the Senate Friday, saying in a public statement, “The House Democratic Caucus will evaluate the spending legislation passed by the Senate on its merits and then decide how to proceed legislatively.”

A failure to move forward with the plan quickly risks the limitation or pausing of paychecks for military service members, airport workers, as well as putting funding for natural disaster management and federal healthcare services into question.

Fox News Digital reached out to Jeffries, Schumer, and Johnson’s offices for further comment but did not immediately hear back.

‘Melania’ marks best doc debut in over a decade as box office figures roll in: reports

“Melania,” the documentary detailing the 20 days in the first lady’s life before President Donald Trump took office for the second time last year, is set to beat expectations, earning $8 million at the box office in its opening weekend, the best documentary opening in more than a decade, according to reports.

The documentary will likely finish third behind horror films “Iron Lung” and Rachel McAdams’ “Send Help,” but beat out action star Jason Statham’s “Shelter,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Amazon paid $75 million for the distribution rights and to market the Brett Ratner-directed film, which opened across the country this weekend and in 27 countries, making it the most expensive documentary in history, according to The Reporter.

The first lady was also an executive producer on the project, which was produced by Muse Films, a production company the first lady launched late last year.

MELANIA TRUMP CALLS FOR NATIONAL UNITY AS MINNEAPOLIS TENSIONS REMAIN HIGH FOLLOWING FEDERAL SHOOTINGS

The strong box office showing was thanks mainly to Americans over 55 years old, who made up 78% of ticket buyers, and especially women over 55 who were 72%, according to The Reporter.

Theaters in rural areas also brought in an outsize 46% of the weekend draw, which is unusually high for an opening. Florida, Texas and Arizona were the top ticket-selling states.

The film has received mixed reviews, with some critics slamming it as propaganda for the Trump administration.

TRUMP SAYS MELANIA HAS BEEN ‘MORE OUTSPOKEN’ THIS TERM AT TRUMP KENNEDY CENTER DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE

A 60-year-old Staten Island man who told The New York Times he rarely goes to the theater, said he bought a ticket for “Melania” to see it “kick Hollywood’s a–.”

The Times reported that in at least one screening, attendees erupted in applause during the president’s swearing-in and there were shouts of “Trump 2028!”

A review from Variety, however, called it a “documentary that never comes to life. It’s a ‘portrait’ of the First Lady of the United States, but it’s so orchestrated and airbrushed and stage-managed that it barely rises to the level of a shameless infomercial.”

The premiere of “Melania” was held in Washington, D.C. on Thursday at the newly named Trump Kennedy Center with guests like Robert F. Kennedy Jr, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Nicki Minaj, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and former New York Mayor Eric Adams.

“I hope they get to see what I see,” U.S. attorney Alina Habba told Fox News Digital at the premiere. “She is incredibly astute. She is incredibly involved. She does everything with grace. She has taken the punches right next to him and always held herself out with such grace. And I’m happy that for a woman who’s a girl boss, who’s literally a legend, and should have been on the cover of Vogue, she’s going to have her time to shine.”

Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” about former President George W. Bush and the 2001 terrorist attacks on America, is the record-holder for the highest-grossing documentary of all time, earning $119 million in 2004, around $208 million when adjusted for inflation, according to The Reporter.

Seahawks player faces league punishment ahead of Super Bowl in jarring twist

Seattle Seahawks defensive back Tariq Woolen was fined $17,398 Saturday for a taunting penalty during the NFC championship game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Woolen’s penalty came at a critical point with less than three minutes in the third quarter. After the Seahawks stopped the Rams on third down with an 11-point lead, it appeared Seattle would get an opportunity to put the game out of reach.

But Woolen jawed at the Rams bench while backpedaling with his hands behind his back after the play.

So, instead of forcing a punt back to the Seattle offense, the penalty gave the Rams an automatic first down. LA scored just a play later to cut the lead to one possession.

Woolen yelled at his teammates on the sideline after the Rams touchdown and was the focus of immense criticism on social media.

After the game, Woolen took to social media to address the situation and the backlash he faced, appearing to offer an apology in meme form, while also praising the connection with his teammates amid the sideline altercation.

SUPER BOWL LX: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAME

“No more taunting penalties,” he wrote in one post.

“Wasn’t getting pressed. We brothers and we all chasing greatness we on the same mission,” he wrote in another, in response to a user who accused him of getting “pressed.”

While the Woolen penalty made the game much closer than it could have been in the fourth quarter, Seattle’s defense held on to secure the win, 31-27, to advance to the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks put the game away thanks to a fourth-down stop with less than five minutes remaining. Seattle eventually clinched the NFC title when time ran out on Los Angeles after Puka Nacua’s 21-yard grab to try and set the Rams up for a Hail Mary attempt.

This year’s Super Bowl is a rematch of the Seahawks’ last Super Bowl appearance in 2015. They take on the New England Patriots in Santa Clara, California, Feb. 8. The previous Super Bowl between those two teams is regarded as one of the best ever. New England sealed the victory in the final seconds with a Malcolm Butler interception of Russell Wilson at the goal line.

White House responds after report says Trump wants 250-foot ‘Independence Arch’

President Donald Trump is pushing plans for a massive triumphal arch in Washington, D.C., a project the White House says will become one of the most iconic landmarks in the world as critics warn the structure could visually dominate nearby memorials, including the Lincoln Memorial.

The White House defended the proposal in a statement to Fox News Digital, describing the monument as a central part of Trump’s legacy and vision ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

“The Arch is going to be one of the most iconic landmarks not only in Washington, D.C., but throughout the world,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle said. “President Trump’s bold vision will be imprinted upon the fabric of America and be felt by generations to come. His successes will continue to give the greatest Nation on earth — America — the glory it deserves.”

The renewed attention follows reporting by The Washington Post, which said that Trump has expressed a preference for an Independence Arch that could rise as high as 250 feet, a scale that would dramatically alter the skyline near Arlington Memorial Bridge.

PHOTOS: THE MAKING OF TRUMP’S WHITE HOUSE BALLROOM, A LOOK AT THE CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS

For comparison, the White House stands roughly 70 feet, while the Lincoln Memorial rises to about 100 feet. A 250-foot structure would tower over both.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One Saturday evening, Trump said the arch will be the “most beautiful in the world,” but did not confirm the structure’s height.

“I don’t know what the height is,” he said. “It’s just appropriate for the site. We’re setting up a committee and the committee is going to be going over it, but it’ll be substantial. I’d like it to be the biggest one of all. We’re the biggest, most powerful nation. I’d like it to be the biggest one of all.”

Trump fueled fresh speculation earlier this month when he shared a series of renderings of a classical triumphal arch on his Truth Social account on Jan. 23. The images showed multiple design variations inspired by classical European-style arches like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, featuring massive columns, wide central openings and ornate detailing.

The president has also displayed scale models of the proposed monument at White House events in recent months, showcasing his personal involvement in shaping the project’s design and placement.

TRUMP ADMIN DEFENDS WHITE HOUSE BALLROOM AS NATIONAL SECURITY MATTER

Trump has publicly discussed the idea since late last year, when he said construction on an Arc de Triomphe-style monument commemorating America’s 250th anniversary could begin within two months.

Trump said construction had not yet begun but suggested the project would move quickly.

“It hasn’t started yet. It starts sometime in the next two months. It’ll be great. Everyone loves it,” Trump told Politico during a phone call from Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

“They love the ballroom too. But they love the Triumphal Arch,” he added.

The monument would be funded privately, using leftover donations from the White House ballroom project, Fox News Digital previously reported.

Key details surrounding the project have not yet been finalized. The White House has not released specifics on the monument’s cost, approval process, exact location or final height, and construction has not yet begun.

Some architects and historians cited by The Washington Post have raised questions about placing a monument of that scale near Memorial Circle, saying it could affect historic sightlines, and the character of the area.

DAN GAINOR: Left melts down over Trump’s viral penguin meme as conservatives cheer

The Left can’t meme. That has been online reality for years. And they get indignant when the right does it. That’s been reality since the beginning of the political era of President Donald Trump. I still remember my favorite Trump meme – the one that redid his WWE appearance, yet turned it into a 2017 presidential smackdown of CNN. Hilarious. More so because of the media freakout.

Fast forward nearly nine years, and Trump is still meming and the press is still fuming. The latest meme pairs Trump with the infamous solitary penguin. The White House combined an iconic image of the penguin marching off on his own with Trump joining him. Add in an American flag and some Greenland mountains with the caption: “Embrace the penguin.”

The response was predictable – a blizzard of angry comments and awful headlines. First the awful: Forbes chimed in with, “TikTok’s ‘Nihilistic Penguin’ Meme, Explained.” Shockingly, they weren’t the only ones to put “nihilistic penguin” in headlines, which hopefully is a first for mankind. USA Today, The Independent and The Week all chimed in with similar word of the day headlines. There hasn’t been this much hatred for the penguin since the last Batman movie.

Then came the berserk ones from the Left. Under the header “Climate Change,” Gizmodo whined, “Trump Urges Americans to Embrace a Suicidal Penguin as ‘Doomsday Clock’ Hits 85 Seconds to Midnight.” The outlet tried to get all sciency by embracing an entirely bogus measure of how near doomsday is. These are the same people who are convinced Mother Nature is big mad at mankind.

US TRADE REP SHRUGS OFF WORLD LEADERS’ SWIPES AT TRUMP AMID DAVOS BACKLASH

For an added little dig, it wrote: “There aren’t any penguins in Greenland.”

I want to write how no one cares, but clearly some in the press did. So, I’ll stick with no one important cared. There are only about 57,000 people in Greenland. It would have to look like the Opus-filled version of the Falklands (Human population 3,500, sheep population 500,000.) for people to care about the penguins in Greenland. Put another way, Greenland is similar to the population of mega cities like Kalamazoo, Mich., and nearby to me, Gainesville, Ga. But bigger than Alaska and California combined. “Hee Haw” fans, say it with me, “Salute!”

Trump and his multimedia minions don’t care about any of that. They care that they kept the entire world talking Trump and Greenland. And Trump. And the press looked silly freaking out about it. That’s a win, another win, another win. Oh, and a win.

BROADCAST BIAS: THE TOP 10 WORST EXAMPLES OF MEDIA MALPRACTICE IN 2025

Sadly, Gizmodo wasn’t the only site made of soulless, humorless scolds – the Karens of the internet. Lefty Mediaite unknowingly embraced the “Ackchyually” meme while complaining, “White House Posts AI Slop of Trump and a Penguin in Greenland, Which Doesn’t Have Penguins.” The Hill went the same route, noting, “Users on social media were quick to mock the White House’s post, pointing out that penguins live almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere.”

The bitter folks at The Daily Beast had to remind their equally bitter readers of Trump’s age in their headline: “Trump, 79, Revives Greenland Fantasy With Absurd AI Post.” Yes, at 79, he’s still better at this game than the entire Daily Beast staff. Newsweek warned, “White House Meme About Greenland Penguin Sparks Jokes, Backlash.” Horrors, not “backlash.” That never happens.

The pre-Trump penguin image comes from a 2007 documentary “Encounters at the End of the World.” The White House responded to the silly media uproar, writing: “The penguin does not concern himself with the opinions of those who cannot comprehend.” That’s a paraphrase of the famous quote, “The lion doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of the sheep.” Sheep, my lefty journalism friends, means ya’ll.

Normal online people (i.e., not the Gizmodo staff) also know the penguin is a metaphor. Conservatives, especially conservative men, see the penguin going off on his own as a statement that they don’t have to follow the crowd, that the penguin, “no longer belongs where everyone else is,” as one TikToker phrased it. That he can make his own way in the world.

That is the essence of Trump’s appeal. The essence of America First, the opposite of the globalist nightmare that exported jobs and imported job takers. The U.S. doesn’t have to do what other nations do. The U.S. doesn’t have to commit cultural suicide, embrace open borders or censor online speech like Europe and the rest of the West. We don’t have to destroy ourselves in a modern version of World War I, like Russia. We can be strong, independent and successful.

We aren’t the 1985 propaganda hit, “We Are the World.” We are the penguin. Trump gets it. The press and their leftist allies never will.

Team Canada faces possible devastating court ruling after manipulating Olympic qualifier

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the world’s highest court for settling disputes related to international athletics, will hear an appeal by American skeleton athlete Katie Uhlaender for a spot in the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics.

Uhlaender is seeking qualification after she missed out on the chance to qualify when Team Canada withdrew athletes from the North America Cup earlier this month, reducing the amount of points that the event could award. The point reduction made it impossible for Uhlaender to earn enough to qualify.

Now, CAS will review the case.

“Ms Uhlaender requests that CAS determine whether a decision by BCS to withdraw four of its athletes from the 11 January 2026 IBSF North American Cup Race was in violation of the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions, and that BCS coaches violated the IBSF Code of Conduct,” CAS said in a statement, per Reuters.

The hearing is scheduled for Sunday morning.

An investigation by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) found that Team Canada intentionally manipulated the points at the competition in Lake Placid. However, the IBSF also did not revise any of the results or deliver any penalties as a result.

US OLYMPIAN SPEAKS OUT AFTER TEAM CANADA WITHDRAWAL PREVENTS HER FROM QUALIFYING FOR MILAN-CORTINA

“Although Canada subsequently attributed its decision to order four athletes not to slide in Official Training to concerns about the athletes involved, substantial evidence supports Ms. Uhlaender’s contention that the move was a deliberate effort by Canada to reduce the points available at the final Lake Placid NAC so as to protect its own Olympic quotas,” the IBSF said.

“Although the disqualification of an athlete and cancellation of results may have collateral impacts (other participants moving up in official finishes, for example) the Olympic Movement Code does not set out standards or means by which event records can be changed other than through sanctions,” the announcement read.

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) petitioning to have Uhlaender granted a spot. Fifteen other countries have joined in on that petition.

Canadian national team skeleton coach Joe Cecchini has defended the decision to withdraw the athletes earlier this month.

“This is all within the rules. There’s nothing wrong with those things. And people can be strategic in the races that they participate. And she was doing that, and other nations were doing that, because you want to put your best foot forward,” Cecchini told CBC News. “This is a system flaw, if anything. But we were within the rules.”

Hidden trail cameras found outside homes as police warn of new burglary tactic

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

California authorities are warning residents to stay on high alert after burglars were caught using hidden, camouflaged surveillance cameras to secretly monitor homes—a chilling tactic police say is being used to scope out targets before striking.

The warning comes after the San José Police Department on Thursday responded to a neighborhood on the east side of the city.

Officers learned burglars hid a camouflaged camera in the bushes outside a home before fleeing the scene.

The homeowner later discovered the camera, and it was collected by police.

Authorities said the camera was attached to a power bank and positioned facing the house, presumably to monitor the residents in preparation for a burglary or other criminal activity.

SJPD Burglary Unit detectives opened an investigation, later finding a second camouflaged device near the area of where the first camera was located.

The second device is believed to be a Wi-Fi powered device, according to officials.

Following the shocking discovery, the department told residents it had received “several” reports of deceptive tactics used to case unoccupied homes, signifying a trend.

Suspects are known to plant hidden surveillance devices, or pose as delivery service providers or landscapers to determine when homes are unoccupied before committing burglaries.

“As a reminder, remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activity helps keep our neighborhoods safe,” the agency wrote in a statement.

Authorities also said to watch out for people ringing doorbells to see if anyone answers, packages left at doors to test whether a home is vacant, and unfamiliar vehicles or people repeatedly passing by a house.

If a homeowner finds a suspicious device, the department said not to touch it and call law enforcement.

No arrests have been made in the recent San José case, according to the department.

A Nevada jury convicted “Dances With Wolves” actor Nathan Chasing Horse Friday, finding him guilty of sexually assaulting Indigenous women and girls in a case prosecutors said exposed years of hidden abuse.

The verdict was delivered in Las Vegas. Jurors found Chasing Horse guilty of 13 of the 21 charges he faced, most involving a victim who was 14 years old when the assaults began.

He was acquitted on several sexual assault charges from a later period when the victim was older and living with him and other companions.

The 49-year-old defendant faces a minimum of 25 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for March 11.

Prosecutors said the former actor weaponized his reputation as a Lakota medicine man, exploiting cultural traditions and spiritual beliefs to prey on Indigenous women and girls.

The verdict capped a yearslong effort to hold Chasing Horse accountable after he was first arrested and indicted in 2023, sending what authorities described as shock waves through the area.

Over the course of an 11-day trial, jurors heard testimony from three women who claimed Chasing Horse sexually assaulted them, some while they were underage. The jury ultimately returned guilty verdicts on charges tied to all three accusers.

Deputy District Attorney Bianca Pucci told jurors that, for nearly two decades, Chasing Horse “spun a web of abuse” that trapped vulnerable women.

Prosecutors said the main accuser was just 14 years old in 2012 when Chasing Horse allegedly told her that spirits demanded she give up her virginity to save her mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer.

According to Pucci, the assaults continued for years, reinforced by warnings that her mother would die if she told anyone.

‘DANCES WITH WOLVES’ ACTOR NATHAN CHASING HORSE INDICTED ON 19 COUNTS IN SEX ABUSE CASES

Defense attorney Craig Mueller argued the case lacked physical evidence and eyewitness testimony. He challenged the credibility of the main accuser, calling her a “scorned woman.”

Mueller said he will seek a new trial and told The Associated Press he was confused and disappointed by the jury’s decision, citing “meaningful doubts about the sincerity of the accusations.”

As the verdict was read aloud, Chasing Horse stood silently in the courtroom. Outside, victims and supporters wept, hugged and wore yellow ribbons. The main victim declined to comment.

Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney William Rowles said the verdict belonged to the women who came forward.

“I just hope that the people who came forward over the years and made complaints against Nathan Chasing Horse can find some peace in this,” Rowles said.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson, who entered the courtroom to hear the verdict, said the decision carried a broader message beyond the case itself.

“Today’s verdict sends a clear message that exploitation and abuse will not be tolerated, regardless of the defendant’s public persona or claims of spiritual authority,” Wolfson said.

Chasing Horse was born on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, home to the Sicangu Sioux, one of the seven tribes of the Lakota Nation. He became widely known for portraying Smiles a Lot in Kevin Costner’s Oscar-winning 1990 film “Dances with Wolves,” one of the most prominent movies of its time to feature Native American actors.

The trial unfolded amid increased scrutiny of violence against Native women, an issue authorities have acknowledged has long been underreported and under-prosecuted.

Chasing Horse also faces sex crime charges in other states and in Canada. British Columbia prosecutors said Friday they will determine how to proceed after his sentencing and any appeals in the United States are completed.

Health officials detect arsenic in 28 popular candies from major companies nationwide

Arsenic was detected in dozens of popular candies, according to a new report released this week, raising questions about how foods are evaluated for heavy metals.

The Florida Department of Health said it tested 46 candy products from 10 companies and detected arsenic in 28 of them.

Officials presented the findings as part of their Healthy Florida First initiative, an effort by Gov. Ron DeSantis tied to the broader “Make America Healthy Again” agenda that began with infant formula and has since expanded to other products marketed to children.

FOODS THAT AMERICANS WERE TOLD TO AVOID FOR DECADES ARE BACK UNDER TRUMP’S NEW NUTRITION RULES

“As parents and consumers, we should have confidence that the products sold in grocery stores are safe and free from poison,” the state’s first lady, Casey DeSantis, said in a statement, describing the testing as an effort to increase transparency.

Candy was purchased online and from stores across the state and reportedly analyzed by a certified laboratory using EPA Method 6010D, a standardized metals-testing method that measures total arsenic but does not distinguish between organic and inorganic forms, the latter of which is considered more toxic.

The department then calculated “safe” consumption amounts based on hypothetical monthly and annual intake, using children as the benchmark because of their lower body weight and higher relative exposure.

No recalls were issued, and officials said potential health risks depend on frequency, duration and overall exposure.

The National Confectioners Association, which represents U.S. candy makers, disputed the findings and called the state’s conclusions “misguided.”

“Chocolate and candy are safe to eat and can be enjoyed as treats as they have been for centuries,” the NCA said in a statement.

The group criticized Florida for relying on benchmarks that do not align with current federal regulatory standards or peer-reviewed science for confectionery products.

The association also argued that calculating risk based on hypothetical annual consumption levels could create unnecessary alarm and confusion.

The association pointed instead to the Food and Drug Administration’s Closer to Zero initiative and the agency’s newly released Total Diet Study Interface, which it said shows significantly lower arsenic levels in confectionery products than those reported by Florida.

“Florida has chosen sound bites over science, ignoring this science-based program in favor of publishing unsourced materials that amount to little more than a scare tactic,” the NCA said in a statement.

Here are the candy products that reached the lowest annual thresholds based on detected arsenic levels, according to the report, meaning fewer pieces were needed over a year to reach the state’s benchmark compared with other products, along with the estimated number of pieces required to hit that benchmark:

SweeTarts Original — 48 pieces per year

Skittles — 48 pieces per year

Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers — 12 pieces per year

Jolly Ranchers (sour apple/strawberry) — 6 pieces per year
