Iran executes champion wrestler in public despite US warning and global outcry

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s judiciary on Thursday ignored a U.S. State Department warning along with pleas from elite Iranian-American wrestlers to not execute 19-year-old champion wrestler Saleh Mohammadi for protesting against the Khamenei regime.

Reports say Mohammadi was killed in a public hanging seen as a barbaric move by the Iranian regime to snuff out the ongoing movement seeking to topple it, according to Iranian American human rights activists and dissidents.

Nima Far, a human rights activist and Iranian combat athlete who is an expert on elite Iranian wrestling, told Fox News Digital, “His execution was a blatant political murder, part of the Islamic Republic’s pattern of targeting athletes to crush dissent and terrorize society, as seen with Navid Afkari and others executed despite international outcry.”

STATE DEPARTMENT DEMANDS IRAN HALT EXECUTION OF 19-YEAR-OLD WRESTLING STAR

He said, “The IOC [International Olympic Committee] and UWW [United World Wrestling] should have intervened forcefully with public ultimatums, threatening immediate suspension of Iran’s NOC [National Olympic Committee] and federations if the killing proceeded rather than relying on ineffective quiet diplomacy, given their own commitments to protect athletes from politically motivated harm.”  Both organizations did put out statements after being asked for response from Fox News Digital upon Mohammadi’s death sentence.

Far called on the wrestling authorities to take action, stating, “Iran must be banned from international competitions until it halts executions of protesters and athletes, releases those jailed in sham trials, and ends retaliation against competitors who speak out or defect.”

Fox News Digital sent new press queries to the IOC and UWW.

Reactions to his death came flooding in from Iranian commentators.

Alizreza Nader, an expert on Iran and the human rights situation in the country, told Fox News Digital, “I feel very bad for him and his family. There should be a boycott of the regime when it comes to international sport. I do worry about individual athletes who will be impacted by this, as athletes in Iran are enduring very harsh conditions, including some reported as being virtual hostages by the regime. But there must be a heavy price for the regime for executing young people like this. There must be a deterrent.”

IRANIAN SECURITY FORCES GUN DOWN AMATEUR BOXER AS FATHER SEARCHES MORGUES FOR MISSING SON: SOURCE

Iranian American activist Masih Alinejad wrote on X: “Today, in Iran, in the middle of a war, the regime executed a 19-year-old national wrestling champion for the crime of joining January protests. After signaling to the world, including President @realDonaldTrump, that they would halt executions of protesters, the regime has done the exact opposite.”

She added, “Three young protesters, Saleh Mohammadi, Mehdi Ghasemi, and Saeed Davoudi, were hanged in Qom after a sham trial. Reports indicate torture. Forced confessions. No access to chosen lawyers. Closed-door proceedings. No right to appeal. I call on @GlobalAthleteHQ to stand with Iranian athletes who are being silenced, imprisoned, and executed simply for raising their voices. This is not just about sports. This is about human dignity.”

Fox News Digital reported in late January that the official X account for the State Department in Farsi wrote, “The United States is deeply concerned by reports that 19-year-old wrestling champion Saleh Mohammadi is facing imminent execution. The regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran is massacring young people and destroying Iran’s future. We call on the Iranian regime to halt the execution of Saleh Mohammadi and all those sentenced to death for exercising their fundamental rights. #SalehMohammadi #StopExecutionsInIran #HumanRights #IranProtest.”

LEAKED DOCUMENTS EXPOSE KHAMENEI’S SECRET DEADLY BLUEPRINT FOR CRUSHING IRAN PROTESTS

Elite Iranian American wrestlers told Fox News Digital in February that Iran’s regime must cease the executions of athletes.  Sardar Pashaei, who won a Greco-Roman wrestling world championship title for Iran and coached the country’s elite Greco-Roman team, along with Afsoon Roshanzamir Johnston, the first American female wrestler to win a medal in world championship competition in 1989, urged the regime not to implement the targeted killing of athletes.

Pashaei told Fox Digital on Thursday that “My heart is broken for this young wrestler. Anyone who still shows sympathy for the Islamic Republic should understand — this is only a small glimpse of its brutality.”

He added, “Before the internet was shut down, I spoke with one of Iran’s national wrestling team coaches. He warned me that Saleh’s case was critical. We were both deeply worried. I did everything I could — speaking to the media, raising awareness — but I could not save him. This regime is built on executions, fear, and hatred. It does not change. The International Olympic Committee and global sports bodies failed.”

Iran International reported that Iran’s regime hanged Mohammadi and two additional Iranian men, Mehdi Ghasemiand Saeed Davoudi,”after being accused of killing two police officers during nationwide protests earlier this year, the judiciary-linked Mizan news agency reported.”

The three men allegedly attacked “two police officers with knives and swords during protests on January 8 in the holy city of Qom.”

The regime claimed that the men acted on behalf of Israel and the United States. Iran International noted this is “a frequent claim used by the Islamic Republic against protesters and dissidents.”

Mohammadi won a bronze medal in September 2024, for Iran’s national freestyle wrestling at the Saytiyev International Cup in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

The Hengaw organization for human rights posted wrestling footage of Mohammadi. Hengaw wrote on X: “Footage shows Saleh Mohammadi, a 19-year-old athlete and member of Iran’s national wrestling team, who was secretly executed in the early hours of Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Qom Central Prison on charges of ‘enmity against God’ (moharebeh). Mohammadi had previously shared this video on his Instagram page, documenting his athletic journey and efforts toward success.”

Sanders flipped off, booted from restaurant that claims it made ‘difficult decision’

Republican Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is speaking out over an incident in a restaurant in her home state where she says she was treated rudely and asked to leave by staff while having lunch.

“Last week I was having lunch with two other moms at a restaurant when the owner approached a member of the State Police Executive Protection Detail and said my presence made their employees feel threatened and told us to leave,” Sanders said in a statement Thursday about her recent dining experience at The Croissanterie restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas.

“Arkansans are known for their warm hospitality, and while that restaurant certainly doesn’t meet that standard, my administration will continue to focus on lifting Arkansans up, not tearing others down with discrimination and hate.”

Sanders’s office tells Fox News Digital the governor visited the establishment on Friday, March 13, along with her security detail and after about an hour and fifteen minutes, during which her group was seated at two tables and had already paid and tipped staff, the restaurant’s owner approached a member of the security detail and requested that the governor leave.

GOV SANDERS, CONSERVATIVES UNLOAD ON ‘BIZARRE’ DEMOCRAT SOTU COUNTERPROGRAMMING: ‘NORMAL VS CRAZY’

Her office said the request was made due to concerns that her presence was making employees feel threatened and uncomfortable due to her political views.

Sanders and her party complied with the request and exited the restaurant. As they were leaving, an individual standing with the restaurant staff shouted for them to go and made a crude hand gesture in the governor’s direction.

The Croissanterie released a lengthy statement about the incident to local media, saying when they first learned she had arrived at the establishment they were “surprised and uncertain how best to respond.”

“By the time we entered the dining room, she was already seated and eating. At that point, we chose not to interrupt, expecting that the party would complete their meal and depart without issue,” the statement said.

The restaurant says that as time went on, the governor’s security detail became “more widely noticed, by both employees and guests, questions were raised about them remaining in the restaurant.”

GOV SANDERS REJECTS DEMAND FROM LEGAL GROUP TO UNDO CHRISTMAS CLOSURE: ‘I WILL DO NO SUCH THING’

“As business owners and members of this community, we recognized that any course of action carried consequences. Allowing her to stay risked being perceived as a lack of support for the community that makes up the majority of our team, as well as their families and friends. Conversely, asking her to leave could be viewed as denying service based on differing beliefs.”

The restaurant says they “ultimately made the decision” to “support our employees and guests who expressed they were uncomfortable” but said “we do not recall any statements indicating that anyone felt threatened.”

The restaurant says that one hour into the governor’s visit, a member of the security detail was “quietly approached and asked to encourage the governor to conclude her visit” given she had finished dining.”

“Nearly 30 minutes later, the party remained on the premises,” the restaurant says. “As the 90-minute table seating limit approached, the security detail was approached a second time and informed that approximately 10 minutes remained. Around this time, another customer attempted to involve themselves in the situation and was asked to step away.”

The restaurant says they reviewed camera footage from the incident and confirmed “that a member of the security detail did send a message to the governor following the initial request; however, it was not seen at that time. Once the message was received, she and her party departed without incident.”

The restaurant went on to say that “many” guests in the dining room were “unaware of the situation” and that there was “no applause or disruption.”

The Croissanterie also claimed that the individual who made an “inappropriate hand gesture” to Sanders was a customer rather than an employee and “the matter has been addressed.”

“We regret being placed in this position and having to make a difficult decision,” the restaurant said. “However, we stand by our choice to support our employees and guests.”

Fox News Digital reached out to The Croissanterie for details on what specifically made the employees “uncomfortable” but did not receive a response.

A similar incident unfolded in 2018, while Sanders was serving as President Donald Trump’s press secretary, when she was asked to leave a Red Hen restaurant in Virginia after being told the ownership took issue with her political views and job position.

“Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left,” Sanders tweeted at the time. “Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”

Other Republican political targets who were harassed at restaurants that year included Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.; U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas; and former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Steakhouse chain’s dress code crackdown divides diners across social media

A popular steakhouse is back in the spotlight over its dress code — and social media commenters have strong feelings about it.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House is drawing fresh attention for its “business casual” dress code requiring “proper attire” — with diners who don’t comply potentially relegated to the bar.

“Kindly remove all hats when entering the restaurant,” its website states. “Guests wearing ball caps are asked to dine in the bar/lounge.”

AMERICANS ARE FED UP WITH TIPPING CULTURE AS NEARLY 9 IN 10 SAY IT’S COMPLETELY ‘OUT OF CONTROL’

“The following attire is not permitted in our dining rooms: Gym wear, pool attire, tank tops, clothing with offensive graphics or language, revealing clothing or exposed undergarments,” the notice continues.

While recent reports have framed the move as a crackdown, the policy has appeared on the restaurant’s website for years, according to internet archives. This suggests the current debate may be driven more by recent enforcement — and viral social media discussion — than a new rule.

The renewed attention comes as Florida-based Darden Restaurants, which acquired Ruth’s Chris in a roughly $715 million deal in 2023, continues to position the brand within the fine-dining space while operating more than 2,100 restaurants across multiple chains, according to The Associated Press.

Darden’s portfolio includes Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse and Seasons 52.

“Ruth’s Chris isn’t fine dining, it’s like one step up from Outback,” one person commented on X. “This is going to make a lot of people not go.”

Another person agreed with that assessment, calling it “the Applebee’s of expensive steakhouses.”

Some also suggested the dress code could alienate customers.

One internet user claimed the policy “is trying to create an ‘atmosphere’ that intimidates people and drives them away.”

Others raised practical questions, especially about warmer climates and tourist hotspots. In beach towns or summer destinations, hats and tank tops can be more about comfort than casualness, prompting some to wonder how consistently the rules can be enforced.

Even within Darden’s portfolio, dress expectations vary. The Capital Grille, another upscale brand, encourages elegant attire but does not explicitly ban hats — though it still restricts athletic wear and overly revealing clothing, People reported.

Some diners, however, applaud the policy.

“Thank God, a return of decorum for a much too casual society,” one commenter wrote.

“It’s OK not to wear your baseball cap in some settings,” the person added. “It’s alright to dress up once in a while. Leave your sweats at home. Make an attempt at stepping up your game!”

Others echoed that sentiment.

“It’s about time,” one man said on X. “You’ve earned another fan. Thank you for demanding better.”

“Nothing wrong with controlling the environment you’re trying to create,” another person commented.

Someone else called for more restaurants to “bring back elegance and class to fine dining.”

But it’s not the first time tensions have flared over the restaurant’s policy.

In 2015, gospel artist Marvin Sapp said he and members of his group were denied service at a Chicago Ruth’s Chris over attire, later alleging the dress code was applied selectively, according to multiple reports at the time. The restaurant ultimately issued an apology following public backlash.

Dem staffer busted allegedly sneaking phones to detainees after posing as lawyer 11 times

A staffer for Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, allegedly lied about being an attorney at least 11 times for detainees at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in an effort to meet with them and sneak in cell phones.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons informed Escobar in a letter dated Thursday about Benito Torres, a senior caseworker on the congresswoman’s staff.

Lyons said Torres lied about being a lawyer for detainees in ICE custody at the Camp East Montana facility at Fort Bliss in El Paso.

FEDERAL JUDGE TEMPORARILY LIFTS DHS RESTRICTIONS ON LAWMAKER VISITS TO DETENTION FACILITIES

“The available evidence demonstrates your staffer, a senior caseworker named Benito Torres, misrepresented himself as counsel for detainees in ICE custody, violated clear detention standards and security protocols prohibiting the use of cellphones inside ICE facilities, improperly met with multiple detainees, and falsely claimed to ICE personnel such use had been approved by the agency,” Lyons wrote.

“As a result of bringing a cell phone into the Camp East Montana facility, contrary to facility visitation policy, Mr. Torres’ misrepresentation that he is a licensed attorney to gain access to detainees, his improper meetings with groups of detainees, and his assertions to ICE personnel about the origins of his visit, Mr. Torres is herby [sic] prohibited from accessing any ICE facility.”

An image of a sign-in log shows Torres allegedly claiming to be a “lawyer” visiting a “client.” ICE records show that Torres first misrepresented himself as a legal professional in September 2025, Lyons said. The most recent incident happened on Jan. 30.

DHS TORCHES ‘BAMBOOZLED’ DEMS FOR CALLING ICE CRACKDOWN ‘VICIOUS LIES’

During that visit, Torres was confronted by a facility administrator and admitted that he was not an attorney and was visiting as a private person. The confrontation happened after officials in the facility became aware of someone passing a phone to multiple detainees, the letter states.

Lyons has requested that Escobar provide written responses to several questions, including whether Torres was employed by the legislator on the dates he visited the ICE facility, if he is a licensed attorney and if she was aware of his alleged actions.

Lyons also asked Escobar if she condones such behavior and whether she will hold Torres accountable.

In a statement to Fox News, Escobar described Torres as “a dedicated public servant” and “Army veteran,” saying the allegations against him were “unfounded.”

“It is worth noting that ICE has refused to respond to multiple letters I’ve sent about Camp East Montana regarding deaths, including a homicide; outbreaks of diseases including COVID-19, measles, and tuberculosis; waste, fraud, and abuse; a lack of legal representation or medical care; and so much more,” she said. “This administration has a history of engaging in intimidation tactics against Members of Congress as well as continuously attempting to obstruct our ability to provide oversight.

“I stand proudly by the members of my team who have demonstrated nothing but dedication and integrity to serving our nation and our community,” Escobar added.

Escobar has called Camp East Montana “disastrous and inhumane” and has demanded that it be shut down.

“The United States already has the largest immigration detention network in the world, and these added facilities serve only as tools for the administration’s inhumanity,” she wrote in a March X post on X, in which she criticized the “chronic substandard conditions” at the migrant facility.

Other congressional staffers have tried similar ploys to access ICE facilities in the past. In November, Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., fired a staffer who claimed to be an attorney for an illegal immigrant in an effort to facilitate his release.

Edward York claimed he was legally representing Jose Ismeal Ayuzo Sandoval. Sandoval, a Mexican citizen, had a DUI conviction and was previously deported four times to Mexico.

High Point guard hits first 2-pointer of season for stunning Wisconsin upset

March Madness has officially arrived.

No. 12-seed High Point upset No. 5-seed Wisconsin 83-82 in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Tournament at Moda Center on Tuesday.

High Point guard Chase Johnston scored the game-winning basket with 11 seconds on a breakaway layup after Wisconsin guard Nick Boyd missed a layup that would have put the Badgers up 84-81. High Point guard Rob Martin hauled in the rebound and fired downcourt to a streaking Johnston.

The game-winning layup was Johnston’s first two-point make all-season long. Johnston nailed multiple clutch 3-pointers down the stretch, scoring 14 points off the bench and going 4-6 from behind the arc.

Martin, who assisted on the game-winning layup, led the Panthers in scoring with 23 points while also dishing 10 assists. Owen Aquino (11 points), Terry Anderson (15 points) and Cam’Ron Fletcher (14 points) were the other players who scored in double-figures for High Point.

The victory over Wisconsin is the first-ever NCAA tournament victory for High Point in their second-ever tournament appearance. Last year was the Panthers’ first-ever appearance.

Boyd and John Blackwell led the way for Wisconsin in the loss. Boyd scored 27 points with five rebounds and six assists while Blackwell scored 22 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Rapp added 12 points.

For Wisconsin, this is their second loss in three years in the first round as a No. 5 seed. Wisconsin lost to James Madison 72-61 in the first round in 2024. Last year, Wisconsin lost to BYU 91-89 in the second round.

The last time Wisconsin made it out of the second round was 2017, when they lost in the Sweet Sixteen.

CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan draws backlash over Hegseth prayer post

CBS News’ “Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan raised eyebrows on Thursday with a bizarre social media post that many believed was critical of people of faith.

The saga began when Secretary of War Pete Hegseth spoke about Operation Epic Fury during a somber early morning press conference in which he vowed to “honor” the sacrifice of six U.S. service members killed in a plane crash last week.

“May Almighty God continue to bless our troops in this fight. And again, to the American people, please pray for them, every day, on bended knee, with your family, in your schools, in your churches, in the name of Jesus Christ. To the troops, keep going and Godspeed,” Hegseth said to wrap up his remarks.

TRUMP, LEAVITT PILE ON ‘NASTY’ CBS NEWS HOST MARGARET BRENNAN AS ‘STUPID,’ ‘SO BAD’

Brennan responded on X, “The Secretary of Defense tells the American public to pray for our troops on bended knee and invoke Jesus’ name….”

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded, “Only in DC is something like this considered even remotely offensive.”

Rep. Brandon Gill added, “Democrats are reflexively repulsed when they hear someone invoke Christ’s name. What does that tell you?”

The official White House rapid response account also took a jab at Brennan.

“Only a leftist ‘reporter’ would be offended by praying for our troops,” Rapid Response 47 wrote.

Hegseth’s press secretary, Kingsley Wilson, noted that it was the same request “Americans have been doing since George Washington prayed for our troops at Valley Forge.”

CBS ANCHOR MARGARET BRENNAN’S LATEST DUST-UP WITH ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL ADDS TO TRUMP LAWSUIT DRAMA

“Every now and then, they just come right out and tell you what they think about you and your beliefs. Imagine what they say in private,” conservative pundit Jesse Kelly reacted.

The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis responded, “Go cry about it. We’d be in a much better place as a country if all our leaders did this.”

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson suggested the CBS anchor “thinks this is controversial,” while GOP strategist Steve Guest said “she is attacking people of faith.”

RUBIO FIRES BACK AT ‘CONFUSED’ CBS HOST OVER QUESTIONING OF MADURO OPERATION’S SCOPE

“If this seems even mildly controversial, it would legitimately blow your mind to read what the men who founded our nation did, said, and prayed in the name of Jesus Christ while governing,” pastor Josh Howerton wrote.

Many others took to X with feedback for Brennan:

CBS News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Brennan, who has famously sparred with members of the Trump administration in the past, was voted by “Ruthless” podcast listeners to be the biggest “hack” in the media industry last year.

James Comey subpoenaed over 2017 Russia probe as DOJ escalates investigation

The Justice Department (DOJ) has subpoenaed former FBI Director James Comey over his role in the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russian election interference, a source familiar confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The subpoena marks a new escalation after Fox News Digital previously reported that Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan were under criminal investigation related to the probe.

Sources at the time said the investigations were examining potential wrongdoing tied to the creation of the 2017 assessment and possible false statements to Congress.

The 2017 ICA concluded that Russia sought to influence the 2016 election, but a later review found the process was rushed and included “procedural anomalies.”

Miley Cyrus admits ‘terrible habit’ she picked up from godmother Dolly Parton

Miley Cyrus revealed the unconventional lesson she learned from Dolly Parton and the “terrible habit” she picked up from the country music legend.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer said she adopted her godmother’s strategy of promoting projects before they exist – leading to the creation of the 20th anniversary special of “Hannah Montana.”

“I learned this terrible habit – but I actually think it was good advice – from Dolly,” Cyrus told Variety. ”She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no.”

“So, I just started promoting a ‘Hannah Montana’ 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.”

DOLLY PARTON AT 80: FROM A ONE-ROOM CABIN IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS TO WORLDWIDE FAME

Parton, who Cyrus refers to as her godmother, has long been a role model for the singer who gained stardom at 13 as Miley Stewart on the Disney Channel. Now, Cyrus hopes to be a mentor to those following in her footsteps. Cyrus reached out to Chappell Roan after the new-age pop star publicly revealed she was struggling with harassment from fans.

“I never bow down to bullies. Anytime I feel like somebody is being bullied, I feel very protective of them,” Cyrus told the outlet.

“When I see people struggling, I’m always the first one to ask, ‘Can I get in contact with them?’ I’d like to show artists how they can have a balanced life.”

After years of seemingly working to unlink herself from the days of Disney stardom, Cyrus has completely embraced “Hannah Montana” again as she celebrates the 20th anniversary.

“I wasn’t trying to kill Hannah off,” Cyrus told Variety about her past comments, seemingly referencing a 10th anniversary post where she claimed Hannah Montana was “chopped up into little tiny pieces” and buried in her backyard. “I was just progressing.”

“Being recognizable as a teen going through different phases and stages was sometimes awkward, but that’s what helped me relate to the kids watching at home.”

Cyrus made it out of child stardom, but not without the help of her parents. The “Party in the U.S.A.” singer starred in “Hannah Montana” with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Cyrus told Variety having Billy Ray on set might have shielded her from the dark side of children working in Hollywood.

“My parents didn’t need me to be famous to survive or to be stable,” she explained. “What happens to a lot of these kids is their parents want it more than they do, or the kids become responsible for the entire income of the family. That was never my job. Every penny I ever made went into my bank account because my parents were good.”

Billy Ray’s dressing room was connected to Cyrus’ and her grandmother, Loretta “Mammie” Finley, managed the star’s fan club from the kitchen-turned-office.

“My dad was on set every single day, so there was nothing that could happen that he wouldn’t know about,” Cyrus noted. “There was never a time where I was going to be alone in that dressing room.”
