Schumer calls on Trump to ditch Vance as VP and pick a new running mate

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Sunday said former President Trump should swap out his “incredibly bad choice” of Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate.

During an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Schumer was discussing the upcoming presidential election when he decided to address “the addition of JD Vance” to the GOP ticket.

“It’s an incredibly bad choice,” Schumer said. “I think Donald Trump, I know him, and he’s probably sitting and watching the TV, and every day, Vance, it comes out Vance has done something more extreme, more weird, more erratic. Vance seems to be more erratic and more extreme than President Trump.”

“And I’ll bet President Trump is sitting there scratching his head and wondering, ‘Why did I pick this guy?’ The choice may be one of the best things he ever did for Democrats,” Schumer said.

TRUMP SENIOR CAMPAIGN ADVISOR SLAMS LEFT: TAKING VANCE’S ‘CAT LADY’ COMMENTS ‘BLATANTLY OUT OF CONTEXT

Referring to Trump, the former president and 2024 Republican presidential nominee, Schumer said “the president has about 10 days – 10 days before the Ohio ballot is locked in.”

“And he has a choice: does he keep Vance on the ticket?” Schumer said. “He already has a whole lot of baggage, he’s probably going to be more baggage over the weeks because we’ll hear more things about him, or does he pick someone new? What’s his choice?”

The left has gone after Vance in recent days over a 2021 interview in which the Ohio senator appeared to disparage “childless cat ladies” in the Democratic Party.

“We are effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too,” Vance said three years ago, specifically calling out Vice President Harris and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., as being part of that group.

On an episode of Fox News’ “The Brian Kilmeade Show,” Trump 2024 senior campaign adviser Chris LaCivita said Vance’s interview is being “blatantly taken out of context,” adding that the Trump-Vance campaign is not against “childless women” as the liberal media is saying.

Vance, the author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” a memoir adapted into a Netflix film about his time as a Yale Law School student reflecting on growing up in Appalachia, was propelled into national headlines when Trump announced him as vice presidential running mate at the start of the Republican National Convention.

REPUBLICANS SAY SCHUMER MUST ACT ON VOTER PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP BILL IF DEMOCRAT ‘REALLY CARES ABOUT DEMOCRACY’

Republicans have billed Vance, whose mother is 10 years sober, as speaking to forgotten working class Americans.

But the Harris campaign has attempted to counter that messaging.

In a video shared weeks ago, Harris claimed Vance would be “loyal only to Trump, not to our country” and a “rubber stamp for [Trump’s] extreme agenda.”

But Vance, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq, shot back during a campaign rally with Trump in Minnesota Saturday.

“Now, I saw the other day Kamala Harris questioned my loyalty to this country. That’s the word she used, loyalty. And it’s an interesting word. Semper Fi, because there is no greater sign of disloyalty to this country than what Kamala Harris has done at our southern border,” Vance said. “And I’d like to ask the vice president, what has she done to question my loyalty to this country?”

“I served in the United States Marine Corps. I went to Iraq for this country. I built a business for this country. And my running mate took a bullet for this country. So my question to Kamala Harris is, what the hell have you done to question our loyalty to the United States of America?” Vance added. “And the answer, my friends, is nothing.”

Asked about how Harris should handle Republican criticism of her immigration policy, Schumer told CBS host Robert Costa that Democrats in Congress and the Biden-Harris administration “put together the toughest border policy that would have stopped the flow from the border that we’ve seen in a very long time.”

He said the plan was initially supported by Republicans but claimed Trump wants chaos at the border so he can run on it during the election.

“We’re happy to bring that up. And case after case, when we bring that up, the voters side with us, not with their policies. We were willing to fix the border. Trump and his Republican minions said, ‘Don’t fix it, we want chaos for political purposes.’ Who do you think’s going to win the argument?” Schumer said.

Olympian refuses to shake Israeli athlete’s hand, yells ‘Allah Akbar’ — gets injured

A Judo competitor at the Paris Olympics refused to shake his Israeli competitor’s hand after the match, as is customary, and was hit with immediate karma, according to X users.

Judoka Nurali Emomali of Tajikistan refused to shake hands with his Israeli opponent, Tohar Butbul, following their match in the round of 16 Sunday. Emomali, who won the match, chose to walk off the mat without the customary post-match gesture.

Before he left the mat, X users pointed out that he said, “Allahu Akbar” while holding up a prayer symbol, known as the “Finger of Tawheed”, which refers to the Islamic belief that “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His prophet.”

Shortly after, Emomali competed against Japanese Olympian Hifumi Abe, which ended in a brutal fashion. At the end of the match, Abe slammed Emomali to the ground. Emomali reached his left arm towards the ground, but the force of the fall, and the weight of Abe, caused his arm to bend and dislocate.

Emomali had to be carried out by Olympic staff members due to the severity of his injury.

Social media users called it instant karma for bad sportsmanship for refusing to shake hands with his opponent in the prior match.

“Bad sport Nurali Emomali from Tajikistan refused to shake hands with Israeli judo competitor Baruch Shmailov and shouted ‘Allah Akbar.’ Emomali ended up with a dislocated shoulder crying on the mat. Olympic levels of karma,” said Michael Dickinson, the executive director of the pro-Israel group StandWithUs.

World leaders respond to Olympics allowing drag queens to make fun of Christians

Several U.S. and world lawmakers are denouncing the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, after drag queens and artists made a spectacle of the Leonardo DaVinci painting, the Last Supper, which depicts the last meal Jesus had with his apostles.

“Last night’s mockery of the Last Supper was shocking and insulting to Christian people around the world who watched the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said in a post on X. “The war on our faith and traditional values knows no bounds today. But we know that truth and virtue will always prevail.”

He then referred to the Bible verse John 1:15, which reads, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., also used the social media platform to voice her opposition to the opening ceremony and the people running the show.

“The French Olympic Committee has been hard at work taking down videos of their satanic, trans, and occult opening ceremonies claiming copyright laws,” she wrote. “It’s our first amendment right to share these videos and our outright over the anti-Christian Olympic opening ceremonies.”

Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini posted a picture of the drag queens over another picture of the Last Supper, criticizing the act.

“Opening the Olympics by insulting billions of Christians around the world was a really bad start, dear French,” he wrote. “Seedy.”

“A drag queen mockery of the Last Supper at the Olympics? Would they have mocked any other religion like this? Appalling decision,” Morgan wrote.

Families of two surviving victims of Trump rally shooting break their silence

The families of the two injured bystanders in the attempted assassination of former President Trump have broken their silence after the shooting left their loved ones hospitalized.

James “Jim” Copenhaver’s family thanked people for the “outpouring of support” as he recovers from his “life-altering injuries” at Allegheny General Hospital.

“Jim would like to especially thank the first responders, medics, and hospital staff who have provided him with initial and continuing care,” the family said in a statement released by Allegheny Health Network. “Additionally, Jim would like to express his thoughts and prayers for the other victims, their families, and President Trump.”

“He prays for a safe and speedy recovery for them all,” they said.

Allegheny Health Network said that Copenhaver “was discharged from Allegheny General Hospital late Friday.”

TRUMP SHOOTING: TIMELINE OF ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW GUNMAN EVADED SECURITY

74-year-old Copenhaver and 57-year-old David “Jake” Dutch were both critically injured when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13.

Dutch’s family also released a statement on their loved one’s recovery, sharing that he was upgraded to “serious but stable condition” on Wednesday.

The family thanked the surgical team at the Western Pennsylvania hospital for “saving” the 57-year-old’s life following the horrific shooting at the Butler County Fair Grounds.

“David and our entire family are especially grateful to all the first responders and medical professionals who saved his life, including the Life Flight and trauma surgical teams at AGH,” they said in a statement released by the Allegheny Health Network. “As we focus on David’s recovery, we also offer our deepest condolences and prayers for the other victims of this tragic event and their families.”

Dutch was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, July 24.

Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed in the shooting while former President Trump was left injured when a bullet grazed his ear.

Comperatore was remembered at his funeral as a loving father and loyal firefighter. He died while shielding his family from the onslaught of gunfire that erupted at the rally.

Trump commemorated the fallen firefighter at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, with Comperatore’s firefighter jacket and helmet displayed on stage.

“He lost his life selflessly acting as a human shield to protect them from flying bullets… what a fine man he was,” Trump said during his RNC speech. “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for others.”

Location where Trump was shot has chilling ties to attempt on George Washington’s life

An important figure in American history once narrowly escaped with his life after an assassination attempt in western Pennsylvania – but it wasn’t former President Donald J. Trump.

George Washington, just 21 years old when it happened, was a major in the British Army.

The year was 1753.

The United States did not yet exist — and young Washington was traveling from Virginia to western Pennsylvania.

His goal? Preventing war.

Washington “was on his way to go up to Fort Le Boeuf, which would be close to Erie,” Jack Cohen, president of Butler County Tourism and board member of the 1753 George Washington Trail, told Fox News Digital in a phone interview this week.

There, he would meet with French troops “to see if he could stop the French and Indian War,” Cohen said.

Washington had been tasked with delivering a letter from Virginia Gov. Robert Dinwiddie, requesting that the French leave the area.

But the French balked at the thought of leaving the area — and a full-blown war would begin about six months after Washington visited Fort Le Boeuf.

Yet even before that, on Dec. 27, 1753, Washington and his guide, a surveyor named Christopher Gist, were following the Venango Indian Trail on their way back to Virginia when they stopped for the night at Connoquenessing Creek in Pennsylvania, Cohen relayed.

There, the two befriended an “Indian guide” who said he would help them through the wilderness, he said.

As it turns out, the “Indian guide” was allied with the French troops — and was not pleased to see Washington.

The man “loaded his musket and shot at Washington and just missed him.”

The man “loaded his musket and shot at Washington and just missed him,” Cohen said of the chilling murder attempt.

TRUMP SHOOTING: ‘GOD’S HAND OF PROTECTION WAS ON HIM,’ SAYS REV FRANKLIN GRAHAM, OTHERS

“They were going to chase him down and Gist said, ‘Let him go.’ And so they let him go, and they went on their way the next morning.”

Nearly 300 years after the brazen attempt on Washington’s life, the event is chronicled by two markers in what is now Evans City, Pennsylvania – which is close to the Butler Farm Show location where Trump almost lost his life recently.

Washington’s would-be assassin, the markers note, was “less than 15 paces from him” when the gunman fired the shot.

Today, Cohen and the other board members are trying to get Washington’s historic route recognized by the National Parks Service as a National Historic Trail.

“It should be a national trail knowing that George Washington could have been killed here,” he told Fox News Digital.

“That happened right here in Butler County.”

On July 13, 2024 — more than 270 years after Washington escaped an assassination attempt, just six miles away from his campsite in Butler County — former President Trump, too, was spared death as a bullet grazed his right ear.

The similarities between the two events were not lost on Cohen.

The attempt on Washington’s life was “pretty much like what we just had,” he told Fox News Digital, referring to what happened to Trump.

“Isn’t that crazy?” said Cohen.

Eurosport removed Ballard from their Olympics coverage afterward.

“During a segment of Eurosport’s coverage last night, commentator Bob Ballard made an inappropriate comment,” the company said in a statement, perThe Independent. “To that end, he has been removed from our commentary roster with immediate effect.”

Iconic singer Sinéad O’Connor’s official cause of death revealed one year later

Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor’s cause of death has been revealed a year after she died.

The Irish Independent reported that O’Connor’s death certificate showed she died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

Her death is noted on the certificate as “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection,” per the outlet.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Inner South London coroner for comment, but has not yet heard back.

SINÉAD O’CONNOR’S DEATH AT 56 NOT ‘TREATED AS SUSPICIOUS’: POLICE

Prior to her death, O’Connor had been suffering from a respiratory tract infection.

The “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer died July 26, 2023, at the age of 56.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” the singer’s family said in a statement to the BBC and RTE at the time. “Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

An outpouring of tributes and honors arrived for O’Connor following her death from stars like Toni Collette, Melissa Etheridge, and Ice T.

To mark the anniversary of her death, The National Wax Museum Plus in Dublin unveiled a wax figure dedicated to the singer, but it was met with backlash.

The Irish Times reported that O’Connor’s brother, John O’Connor, criticized the look of the figure, saying it was “hideous” and “inappropriate” during an interview on RTÉ’s Liveline radio show.

He added that it looked like a cross “between a mannequin and something out of the Thunderbirds.”

Fans were similarly outraged.

“The new Sinéad O’Connor wax work looks like they just found an old mannequin in a skip and said, yep that will do. The absolute hack of it,” one person wrote on X.

“As a huge fan of Sinéad O’Connor and everything she represented, I am so disappointed with this! It looks nothing like our Sinead,” said another.

People also questioned placing her figure next to “Star Wars” characters, including Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neeson.

Following the backlash, The National Wax Museum Plus issued a statement on social media, acknowledging the controversy and announcing the decision to remove it.

They explained they are “launching a new project to create a more accurate representation” of O’Connor.

“In response to the public’s feedback regarding the wax figure, we acknowledge that the current representation did not meet our high standards or the expectations of Sinéad’s devoted fans,” it continued. “We have listened closely to the reactions and agree that the figure does not fully capture Sinéad’s unique presence and essence as we intended.”

The museum noted O’Connor’s “impact on Ireland and the global music community” and said they are “committed to creating a new wax figure that better reflects Sinéad O’Connor’s true spirit and iconic image.”
