Sarah Beckstrom’s father issues first comments about his daughter’s death
Gary Beckstrom, the father of West Virginia National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, noted in a heartbreaking Facebook post on Thursday that his daughter had died.
“My baby girl has passed to glory. If I don’t talk to you don’t be offend [sic] this has been a horrible tragedy,” he wrote.
Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal is a suspect in the shooting that killed Beckstrom and injured fellow Guard member Andrew Wolfe in Washingon, D.C. on Wednesday.
VICTIMS IDENTIFIED IN NATIONAL GUARD SHOOTING AS INVESTIGATION INTO AFGHAN NATIONAL SUSPECT RAMPS UP
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem noted Wednesday in a post on X, “The suspect who shot our brave National Guardsmen is an Afghan national who was one of the many unvetted, mass paroled into the United States under Operation Allies Welcome on September 8, 2021, under the Biden Administration.”
President Donald Trump referred to the perpetrator as a “monster” during remarks on Thursday, noting that he was “in serious condition.”
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBER SARAH BECKSTROM DEAD AFTER DC SHOOTING: ‘HIGHLY RESPECTED’

Heartbroken relative says teen fought back in cruise ship horror as FBI stays quiet
A relative of Anna Kepner, who died onboard a Carnival Cruise ship in early November, says the teenager “fought for her life” amid reports that her death was ruled a homicide.
18-year-old Anna was found dead while she was onboard the Carnival Horizon on Nov. 7 during a family vacation. Her death was ruled a homicide by “mechanical asphyxiation,” according to ABC News, but authorities haven’t announced a suspect or person of interest. The FBI is investigating Anna’s death.
Relatives said Anna was found dead inside her room aboard the Carnival Horizon, which she shared with her stepbrother.
Krystal Wright, Anna’s aunt, told Fox 35 Orlando she believes the 18-year-old cheerleader fought back.
FBI INVESTIGATES SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS ON CARNIVAL CRUISE SHIP
“I know Anna fought. I know she fought for her life, so it’s rough. It’s rough,” Wright said.
Anna’s aunt said she’s frustrated that there’s still no arrest, despite the death reportedly being ruled a homicide.
“We don’t understand why, if the boy is a suspect, why has he not been charged yet? What’s happening there?” Wright asked. “It’s turmoil. We’re just sitting here waiting.”
NO CAUSE OF DEATH FOR CHEERLEADER FOUND DEAD ON CRUISE SHIP AS REPORT REVEALS REMAINS FOUND HIDDEN UNDER BED
While authorities haven’t announced any criminal charges, stepmother Shauntel Kepner revealed that Anna’s 16-year-old stepbrother has been eyed as a suspect. She made the claim in a court filing amid a legal battle with her ex-husband Thomas Hudson.
Anna’s 15-year-old ex-boyfriend recalled an instance where the stepbrother allegedly tried to get on top of her during a FaceTime call.
“When I was on FaceTime with her, and she was lying down, and her brother tried to go on top of her,” the ex-boyfriend said.
The ex-boyfriend reported the incident to Anna’s parents, saying she had previously complained about being “uncomfortable” around her stepbrother. Anna’s ex-boyfriend said he’d be on the cruise had they not broken up.

In a court filing, Christopher Kepner, Anna’s father, told People that “I want him to face the consequences … I will be fighting to make sure that does happen.”
“He was the only one that was in the room, and the FBI has an ongoing investigation in which they will have to provide the evidence to say that he did do it or did not do this,” Kepner said. “And I would’ve never thought that any of this would’ve happened.”
Former patent chief exposes how Pelosi blocked Trump’s plan to lower drug prices
President Donald Trump will soon have an opportunity to achieve a political and economic victory that he nearly accomplished in his first term, until Congress undermined him at the last moment.
That opportunity involves the upcoming joint review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the trade deal that replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). All three countries will soon meet to discuss how the pact is working and hash out any updates.
During the first Trump administration, as under secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, I worked on the intellectual property aspects of that pact. The president, U.S. Trade Representative Bob Lighthizer, and the rest of the team secured numerous concessions from our northern and southern neighbors to strengthen intellectual property (IP) protections — which help prevent foreign rivals from stealing technologies and designs from innovative American companies, reduce foreign free-riding on America’s investment in innovation and incentivize American firms to boost their research spending and expand into foreign markets.
Unfortunately, one of the biggest concessions — a requirement that Mexico and Canada offer 10 years of “regulatory data protection” to cutting-edge biologic medicines grown from living cell cultures — was excluded from the final version of the agreement at the eleventh hour.
PENCE GROUP BLASTS TRUMP’S DRUG PRICING PLAN AS ‘SOCIALIST’ IN NEW AD CAMPAIGN
During a regulatory data protection period, rival companies aren’t allowed to use the clinical trial data of a biologic developer to create their own knockoff products. Creating a single new biologic medicine requires years of research and often billions of dollars.
Regulatory data protection essentially gives innovators a better chance to recoup their investments and earn a return — and thus incentivizes them to pour more resources into research and development, creating research and manufacturing jobs in the process.
The United States already provides 12 years of data protection for biologics, and the USMCA wouldn’t have altered that domestic standard. The original draft text of the USMCA would have simply brought Canada and Mexico up closer to our level in order to level the playing field.
TRUMP SCORES FOUR BIG WINS WITH XI BUT HAS ONE BIG MISS
The aim was simple: raise protections abroad, so that foreign manufacturers can’t free ride on American biotech inventors by prematurely introducing knockoff products. That would enable American inventors to recoup their investment on a more proportionate basis in Mexico and Canada — and thus enable them to reduce drug prices in the United States.
But ultimately, that provision designed to reduce foreign freeloading was stripped from the agreement at the insistence of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose support was necessary to pass the USMCA’s implementing legislation through Congress.

Now, though, there’s a new Congress. The second Trump administration would be wise to push for the original terms, which Canada and Mexico had already agreed to, during the upcoming USMCA review. Strengthening regulatory data protection in our neighbors would end the freeloading and help bring lower prices to American patients.
The upcoming review also gives the administration an opportunity to hold our neighbors — particularly Mexico — to the commitments they made but are failing to uphold.

The Trump administration recently placed Mexico on the Special 301 Priority Watch List — the federal government’s compilation of serial intellectual property violators — “due to long-standing and significant IP concerns.” Mexico has failed to implement patent-enforcement systems, patent-term restoration regulations and the copyright enforcement that it promised and has allowed trademark counterfeiting and copyright piracy to run rampant. Its failures have eroded the protections American innovators were supposed to gain through the trade pact.
Stronger intellectual property protections would mean more new treatments for patients — at lower prices for Americans — along with more high-paying jobs in the industries of the future, and continued leadership in critical 21st-century industries for the United States.
Coach Belichick stays ‘focused on game’ as girlfriend threatens to sue personality
Bill Belichick’s first season as the North Carolina Tar Heels football head coach probably didn’t go the way he wanted it to as they have four wins going into the final week of the regular season.
Belichick definitely didn’t want to hear any more questions about his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, and whether she’s become a distraction for the program.

Hudson threatened to sue sports personality Pablo Torre over his reporting on her interactions with the school and the program over the year. She flashed her all-access sideline pass in a post on Instagram after the team’s final home game of the season.
A reporter asked Belichick on Wednesday about “those distractions” off the field and whether there was any way to “eliminate some of that drama.” The Tar Heels cap the year with a rivalry matchup against N.C. State.
“Yeah, I’m just focused on the game,” Belichick said, via 247 Sports. “That’s what our team’s focused on.”
Hudson and Torre sparred during the week about his reporting, but it was far from the only time that she entered the limelight over the course of the year.

Emails were leaked showing how much she was involved with the program as her relationship with Belichick became more publicized. She was also criticized for jumping into a CBS interview to shut down a question about her relationship with the legendary coach.
Through it all, she’s been supportive of the Tar Heels during the year. She’s routinely at home games in Chapel Hill, wearing some shade of Carolina Blue and cheering on the team.

Wisconsin lake reveals ancient vessels that predate Egyptian pyramids
Wisconsin officials recently announced the discovery of a trove of ancient canoes in an underwater “parking lot” of sorts — including one that predates the Pyramids of Giza.
The Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) announced this month that its experts have identified 14 canoes in Madison’s Lake Mendota so far, six of which were found this spring. The WHS worked with the First Nations of Wisconsin during the research process, a release noted.
The WHS also recovered a 1,200-year-old dugout canoe in 2021 and retrieved another 3,000-year-old one in 2022.
ANCIENT ROMAN FORT YIELDS 2,000-YEAR-OLD FRUIT THAT SURVIVED THE CENTURIES, PLUS OTHER TREASURES
All in all, the oldest canoe is 5,200 years old, while the most recent one dates back to the 1300s A.D. The vessels were used to catch fish, make travel more efficient and facilitate trade, the WHS said.
“The landscape around Madison lakes looked very different before European settlers arrived in the area and conducted terraforming to suit modern transportation, with large bluffs that made traveling over the land difficult in some areas,” the statement noted.
“Canoe travel may have been more efficient for certain routes for the communities who lived in the area spanning thousands of years before Wisconsin became a state,” the statement also said.
WHS maritime archaeologist Tamara Thomsen told Fox News Digital the canoes were preserved by being buried under Lake Mendota for thousands of years.

“The canoes have all been found eroding from a bank underwater, in about 25 feet of water,” said Thomsen. “They survived because they remained buried for so many millennia.”
There are no current plans to retrieve the 14 canoes that remain underwater, Thomsen added. The two that have been retrieved, however, are slated to be included in a museum display at the Wisconsin History Center in 2027.
“The oldest Lake Mendota canoe identified to date was likely crafted sometime around 3000 B.C., before the Great Pyramid of Giza was built in Egypt, and around the time of the invention of writing in Sumer,” she added.
“Constructed of red oak, it is now the oldest dugout canoe recorded from the Great Lakes region and the third oldest in eastern North America.”

The cache is rare in the Midwest, as such discoveries are more common in the Southeast.
“This is the only cache of canoes that has so far been discovered in Wisconsin,” the archaeologist said.
The WHS also said the canoes were made of either red or white oak — curious choices, as they tend to be water-absorbent.
Thomsen speculated that the builders may have intentionally selected trees that were damaged, or may have damaged them on purpose to impact their growth cycle.

“We think of bioengineering as a modern practice, but the samples we have suggest this may have been taking place long before the term was coined in the mid-20th century,” she said.
“Archaeology is kind of like putting together pieces of a puzzle, and the more pieces you can find, the better you can start to form a picture of what was going on and why during a period of history,” Thomsen added.
Bill Quackenbush, a tribal historic preservation officer for the Ho-Chunk Nation, said the project “gives us a meaningful opportunity to gain a deeper perspective on our heritage and our ancestors.”
He added, “It is important that we document and share these stories, so that our youth feel that connection to our past.”

America’s most-used password in 2025 revealed as safety warnings fail
Passwords play a huge role in how you stay safe online. They protect your accounts, devices and money. Still, many people pick logins that criminals can guess in seconds.
The latest NordPass report shows this problem again. This year, “admin” took the top spot as the most common password in the United States.
NordPass and NordStellar, two cybersecurity companies that track leaked credentials and online threats, reviewed millions of exposed passwords to spot trends. They also examined how password habits differ across generations. The pattern is clear: many of us still rely on simple words, easy number strings and familiar keyboard patterns. These choices give attackers a quick path into countless accounts.

183 MILLION EMAIL PASSWORDS LEAKED: CHECK YOURS NOW
Most common passwords in the United States
NordPass shared its top 20 list for 2025. “Admin” sits at number one. Variations of the word “password” take up five spots. Number strings appear nine times. One explicit term even made the list.
Here are the 20 most common passwords in the USA this year:
- admin

- 123456
- 12345678
- 123456789

Weak logins remain a major problem because criminals rely on automated tools. These tools try simple words and common patterns first. When millions of people reuse the same easy passwords, attackers succeed fast.
HOW TO USE PASSKEYS TO KEEP YOUR COMPUTER SAFE
Global trends show the same risky password behavior
The United States is not alone. Globally, “123456” ranks as the most common password. “Admin” and “12345678” follow closely behind. These patterns appear because they are easy to remember. Sadly, they are also easy to crack.
Researchers noticed one shift worth noting: more passwords now include special characters. The increase is sharp. However, most examples remain weak. Strings like P@ssw0rd and Abcd@1234 still follow predictable rules that tools can break with little effort.
The word “password” stays popular around the world. People even use it in local languages. This shows how widespread the problem is.
Why younger generations still make unsafe password choices
Many people assume younger adults understand digital safety. They grew up with phones and social media. Research shows that this assumption is wrong.
NordPass found that an 18-year-old often picks the same weak password patterns as an 80-year-old. Younger users favor long number sequences. Older users lean toward names. Neither group creates secure or random strings. Generations Z and Y tend to avoid names. Generations X and older use them often. Each approach carries risk because attackers expect both patterns.
AI-POWERED SCAMS TARGET KIDS WHILE PARENTS STAY SILENT
Why weak passwords remain a big threat
Weak passwords fuel data breaches and account takeovers. Criminals run scripts that check billions of combinations every second. When your password is common, they break in fast.
A single stolen login can expose your email, social accounts, bank information and more. Many attacks start this way. Once criminals get inside one account, they often try the same password on others.
Steps to stay safe with your passwords
You can improve your digital safety with a few simple habits. These steps help block common attacks and protect your accounts.
1) Create strong random passwords
Pick long passwords or short passphrases. Aim for at least 20 characters. Mix letters, numbers and special characters. Avoid patterns.
2) Avoid password reuse
Use a unique password for each account. If one login gets hacked, the others stay safe.
3) Review and update weak passwords
Check your old logins. Replace anything short, predictable or reused. Fresh passwords lower your risk.
4) Use a password manager
A password manager creates secure passwords and stores them safely. It also fills them in for you, so you do not need to remember them.
Next, see if your email has been exposed in past breaches. Our No. 1 password manager pick includes a built-in breach scanner that checks whether your email address or passwords have appeared in known leaks. If you discover a match, immediately change any reused passwords and secure those accounts with new, unique credentials.
Check out the best expert-reviewed password managers of 2025 at
5) Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA)
MFA adds a second check before you log in. It is one of the easiest ways to block attackers.
6) Keep your software updated
Update your phone, computer browsers and apps on a regular schedule. These updates patch security gaps that criminals try to exploit. When you fall behind on updates, weak passwords become even riskier because attackers can pair old software flaws with easy logins.
Pro Tip: Use a data removal service
Leaked passwords often come from old profiles on data broker sites you forgot about. A data removal service can wipe your personal info from those sites and reduce how much of your data ends up on breach lists. When less of your information is floating around online, your accounts become less tempting targets.
While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They aren’t cheap, and neither is your privacy. These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. It’s what gives me peace of mind and has proven to be the most effective way to erase your personal data from the internet. By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you.

Alzheimer’s risk declines sharply with daily lifestyle change, researchers say
Increasing physical activity in midlife or later may reduce the chances of developing dementia by up to 45%, according to a recent study published in JAMA Network Open.
Researchers at the Boston University School of Public Health analyzed data from more than 4,300 people in the Framingham Heart Study Offspring, all of whom were dementia-free at the start of the study.
The individuals completed a questionnaire reporting their amount of sleep and level of physical activity (sedentary, slight, moderate or heavy), according to the study report.
DEMENTIA RISK COULD BE LINKED TO WALKING SPEED, STUDY SUGGESTS
Study design and key findings
The researchers analyzed the individuals’ physical activity throughout three life stages — early adult (ages 26-44 years), midlife (45-64 years) and late life (65-88 years).
They followed the participants for an average span of 37.2, 25.9 and 14.5 years, respectively, to monitor the onset of Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.
Those in the top two quintiles of midlife physical activity were associated with a 40% lower all-cause dementia risk over a 26-year period, compared to those with the lowest activity level.
RATES OF DEMENTIA ARE LOWER IN PEOPLE WHO EAT THIS SPECIFIC DIET, RESEARCH SHOWS
People in the top two quintiles of late-life physical activity were associated with a 36% to 45% lower dementia risk over 15 years.
“These results may help to inform more precise and effective strategies to prevent or delay the onset of dementia in later life, and support evidence that the benefits of physical activity on the brain may extend to earlier in life than previously thought,” study author Phillip Hwang, Ph.D., from the Department of Epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health, told Fox News Digital.

Higher activity in midlife was associated with lower dementia risk only in people without APOE4, a genetic variant linked to higher Alzheimer’s risk.
However, this was not the case with the late-life higher activity group, which showed reduced dementia risk among both APOE4 carriers and those without the gene, according to the study.
The exercise-brain link
“There are several possible mechanisms through which physical activity is thought to lower the risk of dementia, such as improving brain structure and function, reducing inflammation and exerting benefits on vascular function,” Hwang told Fox News Digital.

Physical activity may also directly impact Alzheimer’s disease pathology, such as the buildup of toxic beta-amyloid in the brain, according to the researcher.
“These potential mechanisms may contribute to facilitating cognitive reserve, which can delay late-life cognitive impairment.”
More research is needed to understand whether these possible causes all happen at the same time throughout a person’s life, or if different causes emerge at different stages, the researchers said.
Expert reactions
Dr. Cathryn Devons, M.D., who specializes in geriatric medicine at Phelps Hospital Northwell Health in Sleepy Hollow, New York, was not part of the study but commented on the findings.

Exercise can lower the risk of hypertension, stroke, vascular disease, cholesterol levels and diabetes — “all the things that put you at risk for circulatory problems to the brain,” she told Fox News Digital.
The doctor also noted that exercise is known to help to reduce inflammation, which can protect brain health.
Study limitations
One limitation of the study is that physical activity was based on self-reporting, Hwang told Fox News Digital.
“While we can say from these results that higher levels of overall physical activity are associated with reduced dementia risk, these results cannot translate well to recommendations about specific exercise types,” he said.
Also, the level of physical activity in early adulthood was not linked with all-cause dementia or Alzheimer’s dementia.

“We may have been underpowered to detect associations with early adult life physical activity due to the small number of dementia cases in this age group,” the authors noted.
Devons agreed that while the study may have limitations, it supports the idea of exercise lowering the risk of dementia.
Borrowers warned over credit scores as new mortgage models roll out
New credit scoring models rolling out across the mortgage industry could dramatically increase the number of Americans who receive a credit score — but experts warn that borrowers shouldn’t confuse a number on paper with actual loan approval.
As credit repair specialist Micah Smith put it, “People with thin credit files … might be able to see a score … but that doesn’t necessarily mean mortgage approval.”
“It’s actually being shown that about 33 million more people are actually going to have a score with these newer models, not approved,” she clarified.
A few months ago, the VantageScore 4.0 model entered the mortgage market, competing directly with FICO 10T. The algorithms represent the two updated credit formulas federal regulators have approved for future mortgage use, each designed to paint a more detailed picture of a borrower’s financial habits.
JEFFREY GUNDLACH SAYS CRACKS FORMING IN AMERICA’S MULTITRILLION-DOLLAR PRIVATE CREDIT MARKET
FICO 10T incorporates “trended data,” meaning it looks back over time to see how consumers manage balances and payments rather than capturing only a single moment on a credit report. VantageScore 4.0, meanwhile, expands the types of information that can count toward a score — which is why it’s expected to generate scores for millions of Americans who previously had thin or incomplete credit files.
While both models modernize the system in different ways, lenders — not consumers — will ultimately decide which algorithm they rely on when evaluating a mortgage application.
“You’re not gonna have the ability to choose between the two. So it’s going to be up to the lender’s discretion in regards to which algorithm they actually use,” Smith said. “And so the biggest thing we want people to focus on is … just continuing with the fundamentals and focusing on what has consistently, in the past, built a good credit score.”
If someone’s score drops under a new algorithm, Smith offers a three-step triage plan, including everyday habits that could improve credit over six months to a year.
“Three tips that you can easily utilize to make sure that your scores jump up into higher tiers: One, we want to study the credit report and look for errors,” she further advised. “Bringing down balances on credit cards is always going to move the needle … [and] what we would ask people not to do is don’t make a rush and an irrational decision. Don’t chase trends, don’t look at gimmicks.”
Smith pointed out that fellow industry professionals have expressed concerns that a potential shift toward a “too lenient” VantageScore 4.0 model could trigger a housing crisis similar to the one that fueled the Great Recession.
“The guardrails are in place now because we learned from 2008, 2009. And so, what we’re seeing is that lenders are a lot stricter in regards to their criteria,” the credit expert argued against any kind of collapse.
“When they were giving out these loans with no documentation, not doing a thorough study of who they were giving loans to, they were selling these loans off to Wall Street back in 2008, 2009, and there was no repercussion to the lender,” Smith explained.
“Now, lenders are much more cautious, and they’re doing their due diligence to make sure someone can actually afford to pay back the loans. So introducing a new algorithm, that’s not going to be an issue. What would be an issue is being sloppy, and giving out these loans unnecessarily to unqualified individuals … Essentially, there’s too many guardrails in place to cause a major crash.”
As of Wednesday, mortgage rates are inching closer to sub-6% levels, as Zillow reported the 30-year fixed rate at 6.04% and the 15-year fixed home loan rate at 5.47%.
Smith cautioned against the biggest mistake consumers make when they hear a new scoring model is coming, emphasizing the risk of “falling forward” without understanding the details.
GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HERE
“I think the biggest thing that I want people to understand when it comes to these new scoring models is pay attention to the narrative and who’s pushing it out,” she said. “No matter how flat you make a pancake, there’s always two sides. And so don’t blame the scoring model for, let’s say, potentially a lackluster score. You have to understand that credit has a way of working and there are people to help you get there.”
“When you get the score right, when you start building good habits, no matter which algorithm pulls it, you’re gonna see a better score all around. And so it really does come down to the timeless habits. Don’t place blame on these algorithms for an inferior score … Everyone makes mistakes. There’s risks and there’s drawbacks to everything, but fall forward into any sort of program that you sign up for. You sign your name on a dotted line, make sure you know the risks.”
