Several top Democrats that called for the 25th Amendment to be used to remove former President Trump from office during his tenure have remained silent on whether it should be triggered to remove President Biden, which some Republicans have suggested.

Fox News Digital reached out to Reps. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.; Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.; Jamie Raskin, D-Md.; and Maxine Waters, D-Calif., along with Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who all declined to comment on whether the 25th Amendment should be in play with President Biden as they suggested it should be for former President Trump.

Section 4 of the 25th Amendment authorizes the vice president and a majority of the executive cabinet to make the decision whether the president is fit to continue in office or not.

At various points during the Trump presidency, Democrats called for the 25th Amendment to be triggered against the president for a variety of reasons ranging from the coronavirus, to Trump’s competence, to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot.

“It’s long past time,” Waters told MSNBC in October 2020 when asked if it was time to trigger the 25th Amendment based on Trump’s “erratic and bizarre behavior” and “spreading the virus personally.”

That same month, in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election, Raskin and Pelosi introduced legislation that would create a commission involving Congress in the process to remove the president if he became “incapacitated.”

“This is not about President Trump,” Pelosi claimed at a press conference at the time. “He will face the judgment of the voters, but he shows the need for us to create a process for future presidents.”

“Congress has a constitutional duty to lay out the process by which a president’s incapacity and the president of any party is determined. This bill honors the duty by creating a standing commission of top former executive officials and medical experts selected in a bipartisan, bicameral way. A president’s fitness for office must be determined by science and facts. This legislation applies to future presidents, but we are reminded by the necessity of action by the health of the current president,” she said.

The legislation was the reintroduction of the same bill from Raskin in 2017. 

“Since January, President Trump has thrown our country into chaos at every turn,” Raskin said in a 2017 press release.

“For the security of our people and the safety of the Republic, we need to set up the ‘body’ called for in the 25th Amendment. The President can fire his entire Cabinet for asking the same question tens of millions of Americans are asking at their dinner tables, but he cannot fire Congress or the expert body we set up under the Constitution. At a moment of unprecedented presidential chaos, the Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity is essential, urgently needed and indispensable.”

Following the Jan. 6 riot, Pelosi, Raskin, Jayapal and every other Democrat in the House voted for a resolution calling on Vice President Pence to “declare President Donald J. Trump incapable of executing the duties of his office and to immediately exercise powers as acting President.”

“We are demanding Mike Pence and the Cabinet finally put America first and uphold their constitutional duty to invoke the 25th Amendment, ending Trump’s terror and his total control over the military,” Jayapal said. “Assuming the Vice President continues to put this lawless, dangerous president over the people of this country, the House of Representatives must urgently join my call to once again impeach Donald Trump.”

That move was backed by Schumer, who said Trump is “dangerous and should not hold office one day longer.”

Following Biden’s widely panned debate performance that has caused some Democrats to call on him to drop out of the race, several Republicans have floated the idea of triggering the 25th Amendment due to concerns over Biden’s mental abilities.

“Over the past 3 years, it has become painfully clear that our inaugurated President has slipped into a rapid decline,” Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., said Wednesday.

“As a Christian principled nation, We the People must revere our elders and shelter them from unnecessary struggle and anguish. The 25th Amendment allows America to respond to this moment of crisis by gently removing President Biden from the world’s most powerful elected position. It’s the right thing to do, the Christian thing to do.”

Both the White House and Biden campaign have maintained that Biden is not dropping out of the race and is fit to serve as president.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is set to vote on a new list of deer hunting regulations as locals express concerns about the rising deer population.

The proposals reportedly include addressing the ability to use drones to help aid in deer recovery, expand early and late antlerless seasons to public land and expand the Hunter Access Program to provide more hunting opportunities.

State officials have estimated there are now upwards of two million deer in Michigan, according to WEMU, a local radio station based in Michigan.

The owner of Beougher Farms in Merrill, Michigan, told the Midland Daily News that deer have been a financial burden since the animals have been eating her crops “for several years.”

“When seeds come up out of the ground, they start nibbling on them, especially soybeans. They love the soybeans…Then when (the deer) get big, and the corn is ripe, just before we pick it, they’re coming around … eating like four rows,” Jackie Beougher told the outlet.

“We’ve got to get these deer killed off from here because it’s not our responsibility to have to feed the deer,” she added.

Her neighbor, Malcolm Brubaker, a hunter for about 40 years, told the outlet that he has been helping to reduce the deer population. 

He said he posts on social media whenever he is going out hunting, and neighbors will then come to pick up the meat.

“I developed a little Facebook post, and in two hours I had 45 people willing to come and they said they would love deer meat for their uncle, a deer for their parent,” he said.

The Deer Management Initiative with the Michigan DNR surveyed 27,109 Michigan residents and found that 28.95% reported that deer damage to farm crops/agriculture was moderately important with 19.47% saying it is very important.

The same survey said 40.75% believe deer hunting opportunities were very important.

The DNR will vote on the proposed changes to hunting regulations on July 11, officials with the DNR told Fox News Digital.

A drop-off in the number of hunters, issues with predators and changing weather patterns, among other challenges, have been blamed for the inability to manage Michigan’s deer population, Fox 2 Detroit reported in 2023.

Two cases of locally acquired dengue fever – a mosquito-borne illness – have been confirmed in the Florida Keys, the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County announced earlier this week. 

The Monroe Department of Health and the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FKMCD) are upping their surveillance and prevention efforts as cases arise, the notice said.

These measures include door-to-door mosquito inspections in the area, enhanced trapping and monitoring, and aerial and truck-mounted larvicide and adulticide treatments.

TIGER MOSQUITOES BLAMED FOR SPREAD OF DENGUE FEVER: ‘MOST INVASIVE SPECIES’

Dengue fever can cause flu-like symptoms that include severe muscle aches, joint pain, fever and rashes, according to the alert.

Dengue fever is not contagious and can only be spread by an infected mosquito. Symptoms can appear within 14 days of being bitten.

DOH-Monroe reminded residents to take basic precautions against mosquito bites, including wearing bug repellent on skin and clothing, keeping screens on windows, using air conditioning in the home, and keeping doors and windows closed when possible. 

UNDERSTANDING THE SEVERITY OF THE MOSQUITO-BORNE DISEASE DENGUE

FKMCD also released a statement encouraging property owners to prevent mosquitoes from breeding by eliminating standing water.

This can be done by turning over and removing empty pots, buckets, trash cans, recycling bins, pet bowls and children’s toys that collect water.

The group also recommended checking tarps on boats or other equipment, as well as gutters, to make sure they’re clear of debris. 

Property owners are also encouraged to flush fresh water through hanging plants and bird baths.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Florida health department for additional comment.

“Personal protection remains folks’ best bet to stop the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, and vector-borne diseases more broadly,” Joe Fauver, PhD, epidemiologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, told Fox News Digital.

“There are currently no vaccines in the United States against mosquito-transmitted viruses, nor are there many treatments.”

Highest on record

Just before the local Floridian outbreak, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an official health advisory for an increased risk of dengue fever infection.

The agency reported on June 25 that the global incidence of dengue in 2024 is the highest on record.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recorded more than 7.6 million global dengue fever infections in the first four months of 2024.

The CDC advised health care providers to be on the lookout for dengue symptoms and to order appropriate diagnostic tests.

During an appearance on FOX Business’ “Varney & Co.” on Tuesday, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine professor Dr. Marty Makary said the infection is considered “dangerous,” but not to the level of “another pandemic.”

“It’s endemic in many tropical and warm countries,” he said. 

Dengue fever, which has been reported in about 38 U.S. states, can come with a characteristic eye pain and rash, according to the doctor.

Although there are tests available, Makary confirmed there is no known treatment for dengue.

“It’s a good reminder to try to do what you can to reduce mosquito bites, especially in the southern United States, where this is more common,” he advised.

‘Invasive’ and ‘aggressive’ mosquitoes

While Florida authorities have identified the yellow fever (Aedes aegypti) mosquito as the culprit in spreading dengue, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) previously warned that tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) can also carry the infection.

Elitza Theel, PhD, director of Mayo Clinic Laboratories in Minnesota, confirmed that tiger mosquitoes are a “known vector” for dengue fever and can transmit the virus to individuals who have not previously been infected.

“This mosquito species is concerning for a number of reasons, including that it is considered the most invasive species in the world,” she told Fox News Digital last month.

The mosquito species is moving further and further north globally as temperatures grow warmer, the expert said. 

“Tiger mosquitoes are also rather aggressive, biting both humans and animals at any time of the day, rather than just at dawn or dusk, which is typical of other mosquito species,” Theel warned.

Fauver warned that the tiger mosquito can spread many “problematic arboviruses (arthropod-borne virueses),” including dengue, Zika and chikungunya.

“The mosquito is a generalist feeder and will gladly take bloodmeals from humans, potentially exposing them to these arboviruses,” he told Fox News Digital.

A California Democrat who previously voted for Rep. Adam Schiff is switching sides in November’s pivotal Senate race after meeting GOP opponent Steve Garvey in Israel.

Samara Weiner, a Jewish lawyer, joined the MLB legend on “Fox News @ Night” Tuesday to call out Schiff for putting “politics above everything else” following the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist massacre.

Garvey, the 10-time MLB All-Star and World Series champion who launched his Senate bid last fall, recently returned from a week in Israel where he visited the Nova festival grounds, met with a hostage family and spoke with voters like Weiner.

“When you’re talking to the people and listening to them, I heard that they needed me to go to places where I could come back with the real answers – whether it’s the border, whether it’s homeless, whether it’s crime on the streets… but recently, it’s about going back to Israel,” Garvey told anchor Trace Gallagher.

Weiner, who splits her time between California and Israel, praised Garvey for being “completely authentic” during his trip.

“I really respected his fearlessness,” she said. “The Democrat Party is lacking a fearless leader.” 

Garvey is vying to become the first Republican to serve in the California Senate since 1992 after defeating several Democrat challengers in the state’s jungle primary in March.

The longtime resident argued he is battling for the “soul” of the state after career politicians like Schiff have let voters down.

“The single greatest currency we have is the opportunity vote,” he said, adding he is “proud” of voters like Weiner for standing up against the status quo and listening to their conscience. 

“I love this state. I love this country. It’s needed somebody to stand up with political courage,” he said.

With record numbers of people expected to drive and fly during the week surrounding Independence Day, those traveling for the holiday should prepare for heavy traffic and delays.

Nearly 71 million people are expected to travel between June 29 and July 7 around the Fourth of July, according to AAA estimates — that’s 5% more people than last year and 8% more than 2019.

“With summer vacations in full swing and the flexibility of remote work, more Americans are taking extended trips around Independence Day,” Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel, said in a statement. “We anticipate this July 4th week will be the busiest ever with an additional 5.7 million people traveling compared to 2019.”

The motor club predicts that 70.9 million people will travel 50 miles or more during that period — 60.6 million are expected to travel by car, an increase of 2.8 million from the same period in 2023.

The worst times to hit the road will be between 2 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Sunday, according to a transportation data analyst at INRIX. 

Based on the data they’ve collected, INRIX recommends that those traveling by car on July 3 and July 4 should try to leave home before noon, while road-trippers traveling on July 6 and July 7 should leave before 10 a.m.

“Drivers in large metro areas can expect the worst traffic delays on Wednesday, July 3rd, as they leave town, and Sunday, July 7th, as they return,” Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX, told Newsweek.

Pishue said that on busy holiday weekends, car trips can take up to 67% longer than typical travel times, so he recommends starting drives on those days in the morning, if possible.

If you can’t leave first thing in the morning, experts recommend waiting until after the evening rush to travel.

Following New Year’s Day, Independence Day is among the most dangerous holidays for driving in the U.S., Omega Law told Newsweek. 

“Holidays also often go hand-in-hand with breaks from school or work, which can mean more teenagers or young adults on the roads who may have less driving experience, leading to risky driving and accidents,” a spokesperson from the California-based injury law firm told the outlet.

The firm’s analysis of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s traffic fatality analysis reporting system from 2017 to 2021 found South Dakota to be the most dangerous state for driving during the July 4 holiday. Fatal crashes increased by 244% in the state compared to any other day. In Washington, D.C., fatal crashes increased by 182%, the firm told the outlet.

Meanwhile, the TSA warns that more than 32 million people are expected to pass through America’s airports between June 29 and July 8, an increase of 5.4 million people from last year, according to reporting by the Independent. The peak travel day will be July 7, on which 3 million people are expected to stream through the country’s 434 airports.

“We have been anticipating the arrival of the Fourth of July travel period and planning our security operations to ensure that we are prepared for the surge in travelers who will be coming to the airport,” TSA Federal Security Director for Colorado Douglas Cruz said in a statement.

Lower-than-average prices for domestic airfare contribute to a surge in flyers when compared to this time last year, and domestic airfare will be 2% cheaper than last year, with the average price for a domestic round-trip ticket averaging $800, according to AAA estimates.

AAA recommends getting to the airport at least two hours early, even for domestic trips. Parking should be reserved in advance, and traveling with carry-on luggage can save time and money. 

More than 4.6 million people are expected to travel by other modes of transportation, like buses, cruises and trains, over the July Fourth holiday period, which is a 9% increase from 2019, according to AAA.

The Seattle Kraken made history this week when they hired Jessica Campbell.

Campbell became the first woman to be hired in NHL history as a full-time assistant coach who will be stationed behind a team’s bench. 

Campbell has spent the past two seasons working as an assistant coach for Seattle’s AHL affiliate in Coachella Valley alongside head coach Dan Bylsma, who was hired in late May to take over the head job with the Kraken.
