AUSTIN, Texas – MSNBC host and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki said she was “worried” about President Biden “as a person” during a “heartbreaking” summer.
Psaki appeared at the Texas Tribune Festival on Friday for a conversation with The Atlantic writer Mark Leibovich, who wanted to know what someone who worked so closely with Biden felt during the infamous June debate that put a spotlight on the president’s fitness to serve another term.
“Well, watching it, my first reaction was not, ‘Oh my gosh, Trump is going to win the election.’ That was not my reaction. I care about him as a human being. And my first reaction was, I do care about him a lot, was like, ‘Is he OK?’” Psaki said.

“Honestly, it was like, ‘Is he OK? And I don’t say that because I was feeling like I was going to go on Twitter and be alarmist, but I care for him as a person,” she continued. “I was worried about him as a person.”
Calls for Biden to step aside from the media began as soon as the debate concluded, as Democratic allies were stunned when he appeared confused, unsure and raspy during the disastrous performance.
Many felt the concerns about Biden’s age and mental acuity were valid, but the president initially insisted it was just a “bad night,” before ultimately caving and deciding not to seek re-election. He quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to fill his shoes.

Psaki, who said she got “emotional” on air when she happened to be the MSNBC host tasked with first informing viewers that Biden ultimately decided to step aside because the news broke during her program, believes the debate and ensuing weeks were an “incredibly difficult roller coaster” for Americans.
“The summer, I think, was heartbreaking and difficult for so many people. People who loved him, people who were fearful of Trump winning, people who loved Harris, people with all sorts of emotions within this country,” Psaki said.
“And as much as I was on television talking about this, I experienced that too, as a human being,” she added.
Psaki wrapped up her tenure as Biden’s press secretary and joined MSNBC in May 2022.

New ‘fear’ over narrative Harris team may push in upcoming debate
Vice President Kamala Harris has gone 49 days as the presumptive, and now, official Democratic nominee for president without holding an official press conference.
Under pressure to sit down for a substantive interview after weeks of stonewalling, Harris finally ended her interview drought last month when she was joined by running mate Tim Walz for a pre-taped piece with CNN’s Dana Bash last Thursday in Georgia that was a far cry from a traditional press conference.
“She should absolutely hold regular press conferences. Americans have the right and need to know what her policy stances are,” conservative influencer Tim Young told Fox News Digital.
“Anyone who wants to lead the free world should be able to handle questions from the press,” Young continued. “If Kamala can’t handle real questions from the press, she absolutely can’t handle negotiations with foreign leaders.”

During the CNN interview, Harris defended some of her noted policy flip-flops on issues like fracking and immigration, saying her “values” hadn’t changed. She was also pressed on whether she had regrets about defending President Biden’s mental acuity after his debate, given he dropped out of the race less than a month later. She also said she wanted to “turn the page on the last decade of what I believe has been contrary to where the spirit of our country really lies.”
Bash pointed out Harris had been vice president for three-and-a-half of those years, but Harris countered she meant moving on from this “era,” seemingly referring to the political rise of Donald Trump that began in 2015.
Harris also sat for two taped radio interviews last week, one of which has yet to air.

As to when she’ll actually do a formal press conference, that day may never come, at least while she’s still a candidate.
“You will not see one press conference from her in the next 75 days until Election Day,” Fox News contributor Joe Concha predicted earlier last month.
Conservative Radio Libre host Jorge Bonilla feels Harris should do a press conference but said it’s almost “irrelevant” because she continues to get a pass.
“She is highly unlikely to do a press conference because the media have enabled and encouraged her ‘plexiglass basement’ strategy, wherein she preserves the illusion of being out there while remaining wholly inaccessible to the press and therefore unaccountable,” Bonilla told Fox News Digital.
NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck feels the vice president “obviously owes it to the American people to hold free-wheeling press conferences where reporters can, unlike what happened [Thursday] with CNN’s Dana Bash, ask follow-up questions.”
“For every softball from, say, ABC or NPR, you’ll hope a liberal journalist will show some courage to do the right thing,” Houck told Fox News Digital.
“The interview itself had a positive atmosphere. From the get-go in the hype video-like opening by Bash, CNN put forward a perception that this was an event, not a grinding fact-finding mission,” Houck continued. “She missed a litany of topics with Harris. Allowing death row inmates to vote, closing ICE, defunding the police, ending private insurance, girl’s sports, the filibuster, Jussie Smollett, the Minneapolis bail fund, systemic racism… those were just a few of the areas she could have touched on.”
Former President Trump has sought to highlight the contrast in media availability between the two, sitting for several lengthy interviews in recent weeks and also holding a pair of press conferences.
Harris received mixed reviews for her showing with Bash, where she took the majority of the questions but nevertheless had Walz there for support.

Report blows lid on what welfare recipients are really spending your tax dollars on
Welfare recipients in Massachusetts spent taxpayer dollars while traveling to tropical vacation destinations and in states located thousands of miles away from New England, according to a new investigation by The Boston Herald.
Public records requested by the Herald showed taxpayer-funded EBT cards were used in Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, California, Florida, Alaska, and in several other locations across the country. Over $3 billion federal and state dollars were doled out to recipients in the blue state in Fiscal Year 2024.
In Hawaii, there were 32 charges on EBT cards this year, with the largest expenditure amounting to $378 in March on the island of Maui, the report said.
Three hundred fifty-one dollars more was spent in Hilo, another popular tourist destination in Hawaii, known for its beautiful waterfalls and lush rainforests. According to public records, EBT money was also spent in Honolulu, Pearl City, Princeville, Waikoloa, and Captain Cook.

That’s not all. Massachusetts’ EBT dollars were spent in virtually every state in the U.S., including 165 cities and towns in California and in 293 locations in Florida, the report said.
Over a dozen expenditures were also recorded in the Virgin Islands and in Alaska this year, which included a $395 charge in Anchorage.
Republican state Sen. Ryan Fattman called the report’s findings, “insanity and government at its worst.”
“This makes no sense. It’s insanity and government at its worst,” he told The Herald. “What the hell is someone doing in Hawaii? We need this money to help feed families,” he said. “This tells me there’s a major problem with this system.”

There are restrictions on what the EBT funds can be used for. They cannot be used to purchase alcohol, firearms or ammunition, pornography, recreational marijuana or for gambling or lottery tickets, among other restrictions.
Usage while traveling must also be approved, the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance said. Failure to do so may result in benefits being terminated.
“Individuals receiving public assistance through the Department of Transitional Assistance use these benefits to meet their most basic needs and qualify by having an annual income that is at least 200 percent below the federal poverty level. State and federal laws regulate what can be purchased with benefits and where purchases can be made, and any out-of-state usage beyond approved temporary absences can result in an individual no longer receiving assistance due to not meeting Massachusetts residency requirements,” The DTA said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
Over $11 billion in food and economic assistance has been given to qualifying residents in the past three fiscal years, the Herald report said.
Massachusetts is a sanctuary state and allows migrants access to these welfare programs. An estimated 50,000 illegal immigrants have flocked to the state since 2021.
A recent report from The Center for Immigration Studies projected that the state’s migrant crisis would cost taxpayers $1.8 billion over the next two years.
Migrants are eligible for food stamps provided by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, and other public services. Migrants can access these programs even while the federal government prohibits access to such programs.

Tom Brady’s journey to broadcast booth ahead of FOX Sports debut
Just over 19 months have passed since seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady announced he was retiring from the NFL “for good.”
This afternoon, the NFL legend will make his long-awaited broadcast debut when he joins lead play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt in the FOX booth for “America’s Game of the Week.”
The Cleveland Browns host the Dallas Cowboys for the nationally televised Week 1 game. FOX Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews and reporter and feature contributor Tom Rinaldi will also join Burkhardt and Brady on the weekly NFL broadcasts.

Brady spoke with FOX Sports from the broadcast booth inside Cleveland Browns home stadium on Saturday as his alma mater, Michigan, regrouped in the locker at halftime of a game against Texas.
“Obviously super excited, there’s little anxiety,” Brady responded when asked about his emotions ahead of his debut. “There’s been a lot of preparation that’s gone into from a lot of people and it’s been a couple years journey. But, I think the thing that’s most exciting to me is I get to get back to NFL football. Being up here in the booth, I’ve got the best partner in Kevin and Erin down on the field with Tom Rin… We’ve got a great group. There’s so many talented people that I get to work with, I get to be a part of a great team. And I get to cover a sport I absolutely love.”
Brady talks expectations for first season in the broadcasting booth
Brady developed a reputation for being meticulous in his preparation leading up to games, and his commitment has seemed to carry over to his television career.
The Athletic reported that Brady sat in an NBC production truck during a Miami Dolphins game. Burkhart has participated in mock games with Brady. The legendary quarterback admitted that he offered his apologies to Burkhardt when he made mistakes during the practice games. However, Brady said the experienced play-by-play man did reassure him.
“I want to get up every day and try to prove to them, ‘Hey guys, I know I’m the rookie, but I’ve got your back, too,’” Brady told “FOX NFL Sunday” host Curt Menefee.
Will Brady critique players during broadcasts?
Brady has openly shared his thoughts for the past few years on his “Let’s Go!” podcast.
Last year he spoke to the state of the NFL on the podcast, saying “I think there’s a lot of mediocrity in today’s NFL,” Brady said.
Shortly before he was inducted into the Patriots’ hall of fame, he told Yahoo! Sports that “quarterbacking has gone backwards a little bit in the NFL.” He pointed the finger at coaching in the league and in the college football ranks. But, during a sitdown with Stephen A. Smith last month, Brady cautioned that he hopes to avoid being overly critical of quarterbacks when he is in the broadcast booth.
“That was horrible,” was an example of a phrase Brady said he might have an inclination to say into the microphone, but he acknowledged, “I just can’t say that on TV.”

Star NFL player handcuffed and detained on his way to stadium hours before game
Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill appeared to be detained by police on Sunday morning just hours before the team was set to host the Jacksonville Jaguars to start the season.
Videos on social media showed Hill in handcuffs with several police officers around him. Other photos showed Hill on the sidewalk with the stadium in the background. Hill was seen in gray sweatpants and a white tank top.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN that the star NFL player was detained by police over an alleged driving violation.
“I just left Tyreek and he is getting ready to play today,” Rosenhaus.
Rosenhaus didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

“You’re an example for everyone, for all the countries that maybe, and this might sound funny, these families prefer to have a cat or a little dog instead of a child,” the Catholic leader said to Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
The Indonesian president, who presides over one of the most populous Muslim countries, laughed and replied, “it’s true, isn’t it?”

Volunteers make dangerous discovery during homeless encampment cleanup
A shocking discovery rattled volunteer groups cleaning up a Seattle homeless encampment over the Labor Day weekend as they unearthed nearly 80 propane tanks, 20 of which still reportedly contained flammable material.
“We have many camps going up in flames, we see them every day. We see explosions inside our greenspaces, it’s from the propane tanks. It’s a ticking timebomb,” Tim Emerson, program director of nonprofit group We Heart Seattle, told KOMO 4 News, a local outlet.
We Heart Seattle was among the three groups assisting with the cleanup that cleared approximately 5.6 tons of debris, excluding the weight of the tanks, Emerson said.

“Anytime somebody [is] doing anything that causes a little bit of spark and fire around the fuel, it’s over. The whole neighborhood is going to experience the explosions,” he added, per the report.
The discovery raises concerns about flammable materials at encampment sites, a concern that consistently surfaces in local reports.
Andrea Suarez, founder and CEO of We Heart Seattle, told Fox News Digital: “The City of Seattle has two very limiting policies that restrict employees from tackling the decimation of our greenbelts as a result of unsanctioned camping. Those two policies known as Multi-Department Administrative Rules (MDRS) apply to city workers to stand back if debris is on a slope or within 20 feet of a structure (tent as example). This red tape has accumulated millions of pounds of trash, propane tanks, tanks of fuel, weapons, human waste buckets, bottles, metals and rotting disease spreading garbage in our greenbelts which are Seattle Parks and Recreation’s responsibility to maintain. SPR has gone on record to say that greenbelts simply are not a priority to maintain. Adding the two paralyzing policies, the trash builds and for decades. Thankfully volunteer led grassroots groups like We Heart Seattle, and A Cleaner Alki are taking on the clean-ups as a vital gap fill to restore green spaces and public safety.”
She added, “This work is especially important in reaching people living in cruel and inhumane conditions with volunteers and our paid leads who are also social workers equipped with case management skills offering connection to detox and long term recovery housing services.”
Fox News Digital reached out to the Seattle city government for comment.
In March, flames engulfed an encampment after residents reportedly used a cooking stove and things went awry.

FOX 13 in Seattle said at the time that the cause of the fire was under investigation, but quoted We Heart Seattle’s Andrea Suarez as saying the encampments are “ticking timebombs” while stating the risk isn’t taken seriously enough.
Propane tanks were seen among the debris.
In a recent report, Suarez told the outlet that the same cleanup that uncovered 80 propane tanks also uncovered other dangerous materials, including guns, machetes and blades.

In July, KOMO 4 News reported on a suspected encampment fire after multiple propane tanks exploded at a park near Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood.
The latest discovery is only a warning of what could have happened – or what could happen at another encampment in the area.
The recent report stated that Seattle Fire Department numbers indicate that firefighters responded to 582 fires between January and the end of August this year, but the department could not provide specific details about the role of propane tanks.
