Obama-era CNN ICE segment unearthed by social media users goes viral

Social media users have unearthed an Obama-era CNN segment on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that they say illustrates the difference in how the agency was covered before President Donald Trump took office. 

The segment aired on CNN on May 31, 2016, featuring reporter Pamela Brown embedded with a team of Immigration and Customs enforcement agents in Chicago as they arrested undocumented felons.

“Just before the sun rises in the Windy City, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents fan out across Chicago to arrest criminals in the U.S. illegally. CNN was granted exclusive access to witness some of those raids,” Brown told viewers to kick off the segment, titled, “A day with ICE in the ‘Sanctuary City’ of Chicago.”

An ICE agent is then heard telling colleagues they had “three targets” in areas that are a “little sketchy,” as Brown noted that the operation began at 3 a.m. in order to catch the targets before they go to work. An ICE agent said that his adrenalin and blood pressure go up when “you’re getting ready to do something like this.” 

CNN viewers were then told that ICE agents need to be as covert as possible when pulling off a raid before cameras caught them arresting the wrong man. 

“This may look organized, but in this moment, confusion. ICE agents mistakenly arrest the target’s brother,” Brown told viewers. 

The correct target was eventually arrested. CNN then showed on-screen graphics noting that ICE agents disagree with Cook County sanctuary city laws banning cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration officials.

“ICE says the county ordinance creates a danger to the community by releasing undocumented criminals back onto the streets,” CNN told viewers with an on-screen graphic. 

The segment moved forward with footage of ICE’s second target, who was previously removed from the country and returned to the U.S. with a fake identity. 

The target was shown being arrested as Brown informed viewers that ICE had surveillance on the person for “a while.” 

“He’s going to be processed, they’re going to fingerprint him, ask him questions, and there is a whole process that goes into place before anyone is deported,” Brown said. 

CNN then followed ICE agents who arrested their third target of the morning as his criminal history was explained to viewers. 

“He is a criminal, he has extensive criminal history, and by taking him out of the community, it’s making the community safer and that’s ICE’s purpose,” the agent told viewers. 

One man attempted to flee a business when ICE agents approached but was let go when they determined he was not a target. Brown then brought viewers inside an ICE processing facility where she spoke with a man facing deportation.

The segment concluded with the following on-screen graphic: “On this day ICE detained 6 for possible deportation. 2 of them were released because they didn’t have criminal records.” 

X account @mazemoore dug up and shared the video, noting that CNN didn’t appear critical of ICE at the time. 

CNN has changed ownership and management several times since 2016, but conservatives have suggested the decade-old segment illustrates how media outlets covered ICE under the Obama administration more favorably than under Trump, when ICE has largely faced withering criticism for how it enforces immigration laws.

The scrutiny of ICE and its tactics has only intensified since last week’s fatal shooting by an ICE agent of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, who the administration said was attempting to use her car as a weapon against the agent.

Many took to X with thoughts on the unearthed CNN segment. New York Times columnist Ross Douthat said the different media tone was noteworthy but also spotlighted that ICE agents dressed and acted differently at the time.

Video shows federal agents fleeing restaurant after confrontation with hostile diners

Federal law enforcement agents were forced to leave a Mexican restaurant in St. Paul, Minnesota, Sunday, after diners began shouting expletives at them, demanding they leave the business.

Footage showed the federal agents walking through Cancun Mexican Grill & Cantina, as angry agitators screamed insults at them, followed them and recorded the ordeal on their phones.

“What the f— is wrong with y’all,” one man shouted.

“No wonder you’ve got to f—— wear a mask, you f—— pieces of s—-,” another man could be heard saying.

Customers could also be heard in the video asking if the agents had a warrant to be at the restaurant, noting the business asked them to leave.

Federal immigration agents are allowed to enter public areas of businesses without permission, but cannot access private areas like offices, kitchens, storage rooms or employee-only hallways without authorization or a warrant.

“Take off your mask,” a woman yelled. “Take off your mask!”

As the agents walked out of the business, others raised their middle fingers and shouted, “get the f— out of here, you fat little b—-,” “Coward m———–,” “Unamerican pieces of s—,” and “f—— Nazi pieces of s—.”

The incident came as tensions flared nationwide in response to the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Jan. 7.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials allege Good hit an ICE agent with her car while blocking an immigration enforcement operation, causing him to suffer internal bleeding to his torso.

Democrats criticized the agent’s action immediately after the shooting, calling her death a “murder.”

DHS did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Top Iranian official downplays death toll, blames ‘Israeli plot’ as US considers strikes

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected claims of mass casualties amid a recent surge in protests within the Islamic country and blamed any killings that have taken place on an “Israeli plot” intended to create a large number of casualties. 

The claim came during a wide-ranging interview on Fox News’ “Special Report with Brett Baier” Wednesday evening, during which Araghchi was told estimates have indicated the death toll in his country could be anywhere between 2,500 to more than 12,000 protesters. But, according to the top Iranian official, the number is in the hundreds. 

“When terrorist elements led from outside, entered this, you know, protests and started to shoot, you know, police forces, police officers and security forces. And there were terrorist cells. They came in, they used Daesh-style terrorist operations. They got police officers, burned them alive, they beheaded them, and they started shooting at police officers and also to the people. So as a result, for three days, we had, in fact, fighting against terrorists, and not with the protesters,” Araghchi said. “It was completely a different story.”

According to Araghchi, these rogue, terrorist-like actors he spoke of started shooting at civilians for “one reason,” which he said was to draw the United States into the conflict. 

“They wanted to increase the number of deaths. Why? Because President Trump has said that if there are killings, he would intervene. And they wanted to drag him into this conflict,” the Iranian Foreign Minister continued. “And that was exactly an Israeli plot. They started to increase the number of deaths by killing ordinary people, by killing police officers, by starting a kind of, you know, fighting inside the different cities.”

Iran has seen widespread unrest since the last week of December, as the country faces a massive economic crash that spurred many in Iran to take to the streets in protest.

Contrary to Araghchi’s claims are eyewitness reports that describe government forces in Iran firing upon unarmed protesters. Some even spoke of snipers taking aim at innocent Iranians, according to testimony shared with the New York Times.

During Baier’s interview with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Araghchi also insisted that there are no imminent plans to hang, or otherwise execute, protesters. The top Iranian official tried to downplay the unrest erupting in his country as well, arguing there is now “a calm.”    

“We are in full control,” Araghchi added. “And let’s, you know, hope that wisdom would prevail. And we don’t go for a high level of tension, which could be disastrous for everybody.”

Chocolate bars pulled from shelves nationwide over salmonella concerns

Chocolate bars sold across the U.S. are being recalled over fears they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Spring & Mulberry, a Raleigh, North Carolina–based company, is pulling certain Mint Leaf Date-Sweetened Chocolate Bars from shelves after routine testing raised safety concerns, according to a Monday announcement from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall involves lot No. 025255 of the 2.1-ounce chocolate bars, which were sold online and through select retailers nationwide since Sept. 15, 2025.

The affected bars come in teal packaging, with the lot number printed on both the box and inner wrapper.

“Spring & Mulberry is proactively recalling the specific lot in which this risk applies to protect public health,” the company noted. “The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by a third-party laboratory.”

No illnesses have been reported so far, according to Spring & Mulberry.

Salmonella can cause serious – and in some cases fatal – infections, particularly among young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, with rare cases leading to more severe complications.

“In rare cases, infection can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and causing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis,” the announcement noted.

Consumers are urged not to eat the affected chocolate bars and to throw them away.

Refunds are available by emailing Spring & Mulberry, according to the FDA.

The announcement comes amid a slew of other food recalls.

The FDA announced last week that a recall of cheese products has been upgraded to the most serious risk category after testing positive for a potentially deadly bacteria, listeria monocytogenes.

The federal agency also recently announced that more than 38,000 cases of frozen tater tots sold in 26 states were being recalled over concerns they may contain plastic fragments.

Sin City struggles as visitor numbers plummet to early 2000s levels, raising concerns

Las Vegas continues to see a tourism slump, echoing numbers that are similar from nearly two decades ago.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LCVA) released its year-end summary for 2025 this week.  

There were 35,457,000 people who visited Sin City — down 7.4% from 2024, the report says.

The highest visitation year ever recorded in Las Vegas was in 2019, with 42,523,700 people before a dip during the coronavirus pandemic, according to LCVA data.

Visitor volume in 2025 closely mirrors the levels seen in 2000, 2002 and 2003.

Total occupancy in 2025 was 80.7%, with average room rates at $183.51 and a convention attendance of 5,682,200.

In comparison to 2024, convention attendance, visitors, occupancy and the daily roommate were all down.

Steve Hill, LVCVA president, reportedly spoke about the effect that tariffs have had on both returning and potential new visitors.

“Some of the decisions our administration has made around international relations [have] caused a drop in tourism,” said Hill, according to local outlet KTNV Las Vegas.

The latest month-end summary of November reports that international visitors were down, with 239,500 tourists compared to 303,834 tourists last year.

Hill added, “Our international visitation is flat, but is making up for a 20+% drop in tourism from Canada, which is our largest international source of visitation.”

Circa Resort & Casino CEO Derek Stevens previously told Fox News Digital that international tourism is down across an array of locations.

“I think everyone is in a position where you can say we’re missing some of our Canadian friends who aren’t visiting this year,” said Stevens.

He also said he believes the lack of international visitors right now may be due to the overall global economy and exchange rates.

Tiffany Burress, the wife of former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress, announced a Republican bid Tuesday for a North Jersey congressional seat long held by Democrats.

Tiffany Burress announced her run Tuesday, contrasting her work in the private sector to Rep. Nellie Pou’s public office resume. Her husband memorably caught the 2008 Super Bowl’s game-winning touchdown to snuff out the New England Patriots’ 2007 undefeated regular season and finished his Giants career with 4,086 receiving yards.

Tiffany Burress, a Pittsburgh native, serves on the Workers’ Comp committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association, has been recognized as one of Bergen County’s “top attorneys” and was a collegiate athlete at Penn State University in Centre County, Pennsylvania.

In her announcement, she criticized Pou, who won the seat of Bill Pascrell Jr. in 2024 after the Democrat died in office at 87, just months before the election, for the series of “doors” that have “been opened” for her.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

Burress, running as a Republican, said that instead of having doors opened for her, she “busted through them,” and that, unlike Democrats, is willing to “bust out doors” to tell the GOP they’re wrong when they are.

“Let’s try something different,” Burress, of Totowa, said.

Burress’ race could potentially be one of the more interesting contests in the Garden State, regardless of who her wide receiver husband is.

Since then, the seat has been held by a who’s who of prominent North Jersey Democrats, including Robert “The Torch” Torricelli, from 1983 to 1997, and Pascrell from 2013 until his death in August 2024.

While expected to win handily over GOP challenger Billy Prempeh in 2024, Pou eked out a four-point win as President Donald Trump flipped the district — and Passaic County — entirely.

At the time, the surprise was chalked up to Passaic’s heavily Hispanic and Jewish population. And while Paterson swung more than 20 points in his direction, according to the New Jersey Globe, Trump and Republicans may have an uphill battle there with its Muslim population outraged at the administration.

While Fox News Digital reached out to Pou’s office and an individual listed on her FEC filings for comment, her campaign page touted her working-class roots in Paterson and neighboring Haledon.

“Throughout her career, Nellie has been committed to improving the lives of New Jerseyans. From fighting for better schools for our kids to more affordable health care, to criminal justice reform, Nellie has been at the forefront of some of New Jersey’s and America’s toughest fights,” a statement on her campaign page said.

NATO chief reveals staggering Russian casualties in ongoing Ukraine conflict

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Tuesday that Russia is losing between 20,000 and 25,000 troops each month in its war against Ukraine as fighting drags on into a fourth year.

Rutte told the Renew Europe Global Europe Forum in Brussels that the staggering number of casualties reflects the intensity of Ukraine’s defense but warned that Russia remains NATO’s most significant long-term threat.

He cited Moscow’s round-the-clock weapons production and a pattern of aggressive behavior that he said shows no sign of easing.

“Let’s not forget that the Russians at the moment are losing massive amounts of their soldiers,” the NATO chief said.

“In months, this is (20,000) to 25,000 Russians dead. I’m not talking seriously wounded, killed. Dead. So, that’s also unsustainable on their side.”

A June study from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington-based defense and national security think tank, found that Russia has suffered extraordinarily high casualties while making only marginal territorial gains in Ukraine.

Since January 2024, Russian forces have seized about 5,000 square kilometers, less than 1% of Ukraine’s territory, while total Russian casualties have climbed to 1 million, including as many as 250,000 killed, according to the analysis.

Macy’s to close 14 stores as part of turnaround strategy: See the list

Macy’s announced that it’s closing more than a dozen additional stores in 2026 as it pushes forward with plans to shutter underperforming locations to boost profitability.

Approximately 14 stores are slated to close during the first fiscal quarter as part of its “Bold New Chapter” turnaround strategy, which includes shuttering about 150 underperforming locations by the end of 2026.

Macy’s CEO Tony Spring said in a letter to employees last week that the company will continue to review its portfolio, which includes continuing to close underprodcutive stores and streamlining operations.

MACY’S TURNAROUND SHOWS PROMISE AS SALES CLIMB TO HIGHEST LEVEL IN OVER 3 YEARS

Macy’s, once a leading department store, was forced to implement a strategy that included shuttering about 150 stores by the end of 2026, to return it to “sustainable, profitable sales.”

However, in recent years, Macy’s had long been struggling to keep up with rapid industry changes and relentless competition, and its sales started to lag.  

While the company is continuing to shutter certain stores, it is simultaneously investing in its 125 “Reimagine” stores, which are a key piece to its turnaround, and have already seen an uptick in sales.

MACY’S WANTS BLOOMINGDALE’S, BLUEMERCURY TO STAY PUT

The company has focused on boosting staffing, store design and customer experience at these 125 locations. Sales at those stores rose 2.7% year over year in the third quarter, “proving the success of elevated merchandising, store design, and customer experience investments,” according to Spring. 

HOW MACY’S CAN TURN AROUND ITS BUSINESS AS DEPARTMENT STORE STRUGGLES

Macy’s turnaround has already shown progress. In December, Macy’s reported that its sales reached their highest level in more than three years, marking a major step forward in its turnaround effort.

Macy’s highlighted two measures of progress in its latest report covering a three-month period ending Nov. 1. Sales at the stores it plans to keep open rose for the second straight quarter, while sales across the broader Macy’s brand, including all stores and its website, grew at the fastest pace in 13 quarters.

Top NFL quarterback prospect makes stunning decision for this year’s draft

Dante Moore is not going anywhere.

The Oregon quarterback announced Wednesday that, despite being in line to possibly be taken as high as No. 2 overall by the New York Jets later this year, he will stay in school for one more year.

Moore said he will stay put at Oregon despite star quarterback Dylan Raiola transferring there.

“I’ll be coming back to Oregon one more year,” Moore told ESPN.

Moore shot up the quarterback prospect list in his first full season with Oregon. He completed 71.2% of his passes for 3,565 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. 

He started at UCLA and saw time in nine games, starting several, but he transferred to Oregon before the 2024 season and backed up Dillon Gabriel that year.

Moore took over this past season and impressed, leading the Ducks to a College Football Playoff semifinal last week, where they were walloped by No. 1 Indiana, 56-22.

Moore figured to be the second pick behind Fernando Mendoza, who won the Heisman Trophy and will play for a national championship and 16-0 season next week against No. 10 Miami. The Jets own the second pick and are in quarterback limbo after starting Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor and Brady Cook this season.

Trinidad Chambliss and Ty Simpson figure to be available for the Jets, who also own the 16th and 33rd picks in the draft.

The Jets aren’t the only team affected, though. Considering Raiola, a former five-star recruit, just transferred, the newcomer figures to back up Moore in 2026.

Assuming Moore starts in 2026, it will be the first time since before Bo Nix that Dan Lanning will have the same starting quarterback in back-to-back seasons.
