America’s neighbor responds to Trump’s trade war by upping the ante

OTTAWA – Canada is responding to President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs imposed on Saturday against its northern neighbor with its own major retaliatory measures, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced late Saturday night.

As of Tuesday, when the U.S. tariffs take effect, Canada will impose 25% duties on about $21 billion of American goods with a further $86 billion to follow within 21 days to allow Canadian companies and supply chains to find alternatives, Trudeau told reporters at a news conference on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, surrounded by his foreign affairs, finance and public safety ministers.

He said the Canadian tariffs on U.S. imports will cover a “far-reaching” range of products, including American beer, wine, bourbon, fruits and fruit juices, vegetables, clothing, shoes, household appliances, furniture, sports equipment, lumber, plastics, “along with much, much more.”

In Trump’s executive order issued on Saturday, Canadian energy resources will face a lower 10% tariff.

TRUMP IMPOSES TARIFFS ON IMPORTS FROM CANADA, MEXICO AND CHINA: ‘NATIONAL EMERGENCY’

Trudeau said several non-tariff measures are also on the table, such as exports on critical minerals, energy and government procurement, and added that “now is also the time to choose Canada,” such as buying Canadian-made products “and “opting for Canadian rye over Kentucky bourbon, or foregoing Florida orange juice all together.”

“The actions taken today by the Trump White House split us apart instead of bringing us together,” said Trudeau, who noted that he has not talked with Trump since his inauguration as president.

However, the president’s executive order cautioned that “should Canada retaliate” with its own import duties on U.S. exports, Trump “may increase or expand in scope the duties imposed” on Canadian exports.

In a fact sheet released by the White House on Saturday, the U.S. is implementing tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China to hold them accountable “to their promises of halting illegal immigration and stopping poisonous fentanyl and other drugs from flowing into our country.” This “extraordinary threat,” the White House said, “constitutes a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.”

However, Trudeau claimed that “less than 1% of fentanyl and less than one% illegal crossings into the United States come from Canada.”

During the 2024 fiscal year – from Oct. 1, 2023, to Sept. 30, 2024 – U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that it seized just 43 pounds of fentanyl at the northern border with Canada compared to 21,100 pounds of the opioid seized at the southwestern border with Mexico.

Trump’s executive order acknowledged that “much less fentanyl [flowed] from Canada than from Mexico last year, but “the amount that crossed the northern border could kill 9.5 million Americans.”

TRUMP’S TARIFFS TAKE EFFECT SATURDAY: WHAT TO KNOW

Last December, the Canadian government unveiled an $895 million plan to strengthen border security, including a strategy to “detecting and disrupting the fentanyl trade.”

Canadian conservative leaders joined Trudeau in calling for a swift and severe response to the tariffs.

In a statement released on Saturday, Official Opposition Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre “condemn[ed] President Trump’s massive, unjust and unjustified tariffs” and said that Canada should “retaliate with dollar-for-dollar tariffs carefully aimed at maximizing impact on American companies while minimizing impact on Canadian consumers.”

“That means targeting U.S. products that we can make ourselves, buy elsewhere or do without,” said Poilievre, whose Conservatives are leading in public-opinion polls and are poised to form the next Canadian government in a general election expected as early as this spring.

Doug Ford is in his own election campaign to keep his Progressive Conservatives in power in Canada’s most populous province, Ontario, and has made the fight against the Trump tariffs a central theme.

“President Trump has chosen to move forward with tariffs that will only hurt America and make Americans poorer. Canada now has no choice but to hit back and hit back hard,” said Ontario’s premier in an X post on Saturday.

The Canadian government needs to “pursue every legal route to challenge these unfair, unjustified and illegal tariffs,” said Ford. “The coming days and weeks will be incredibly difficult.”

CANADA READY FOR TRUMP TARIFF FIGHT AS COUNTRY’S LEADERS THREATEN RETALIATION: ‘DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR’

David Eby, premier of British Columbia, announced on Saturday that he directed B.C.’s liquor distribution agency to stop buying liquor from red Republican states and “remove the top-selling ‘red-state’ brands from the shelves of public liquor stores.”

Reaction to the Trump tariffs extended beyond politicians.

Hockey fans at the Ottawa Senators’ home game against the Minnesota Wild Saturday night booed the singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” to express their displeasure.

Charlie Angus, a member of Parliament who represents a northern Ontario district – larger in geographic size than the United Kingdom – in the House of Commons for the progressive New Democratic Party, told FOX Business that the Trudeau Liberal government can expect from Canadians to have “pretty strong backing to go the whole distance” in countering the Trump tariffs.

“People are seriously p—ed,” said Angus, co-founder of Pledge for Canada, a nonpartisan group of leaders from politics, labor and the arts strongly opposed to “threats of economic coercion” and “serious risks” to Canadian sovereignty in response to the U.S. tariffs and the president’s musings about annexing Canada

“He’s actually unifying us across a whole whack of different groups that would normally be fighting among ourselves,” he said.

“We’re dealing with not only the threat of tariffs but vicious insults against our right to even exist as a nation. This is not anything we’ve ever seen before.”

Angus said the U.S. duties against Canada will have a “brutally devastating impact” on both sides of the border.

During the first three quarters of 2024, $683 billion in goods and services crossed the Canada-U.S. border, according to a recent report from TD Economics.

In an analysis released last November on Trump’s 25% tariff threat against Canada, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce said the economic fallout would result in the shrinking of the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) by 1.6%, or about $467 billion, and a reduction in Canada’s GDP by 2.6%, or about $54 billion.

Sometimes in life, it is only once a crisis passes that we can truly see just how awful and harmful it was. This week, in these pages, Joseph Wulfsohn offered a long read, detailing the prevarications of the mainstream media in the Joe Biden era, and its complicity in the lie of the century.

You should read the whole damning thing, as only now journalists begin to admit their duplicitous role in propping up Biden. I applaud Wulfsohn for persevering. I would have thrown a coffee mug through my laptop about halfway through writing it out of sheer anger.

SHIELDING BIDEN: JOURNALISTS SHED LIGHT ON THE MEDIA’S COVER-UP OF A WEAKENED PRESIDENT

The story begins at the beginning with the cover-up of the Hunter Biden laptop, and here is what Marc Caputo, then at Politico, had to say about his coverage of the first son’s crime-scene-on-a-hard-drive being quashed:

“…I wrote what would have been a classic story…That story was killed by the editors. And they gave no explanation for that either,” Caputo said on the “Somebody’s Gotta Win” podcast.

I’d like to offer Caputo the explanation he was denied. You see, the people who signed Caputo’s checks back then, along with 90% of corporate media, wanted Donald Trump to lose and Biden to win. If that meant killing true stories and smearing honest journalists then so be it.

And it wasn’t just Politico burying the laptop. Wulfsohn has the receipts and shows that Jake Tapper and Brian Seltzer, who both still pontificate from CNN daily, also hid the story, as did NPR, and almost every major newspaper in the country that isn’t called the New York Post.

As bad as the lies surrounding the laptop were, they paled in comparison to what would come next, an all-out, no-holds barred effort by the liberal media to conceal Biden’s obvious and dangerous mental decline.

Just weeks before Biden’s disastrous debate performance, NBC News was warning its viewers not to believe their lying eyes about Grandpa Joe’s decline, writing, “Experts have warned that while advanced technology like generative artificial intelligence can spread misinformation, so-called ‘cheap fakes’ that often use only minor or selective editing can be more effective at spreading false narratives.”

Never forget that they really tried to pull this on you.

And do not accept the Johnny-Come-Lately excuses we now hear from the exposed liars in the news media, such as the Manchester Guardian’s David Smith, who said recently, “There was perhaps, even on an unconscious level, the notion that if you focus so much on Joe Biden’s age, you are somehow helpingDonald Trump.”

An unconscious level? What the hell does this even mean? Biden would regularly stumble around a stage shaking hands with the air and all the liberal reporters in the country just couldn’t see it because they had some Freudian mind block, or something?

Here is how The New York Times’ Peter Baker addressed the lies about Biden fitness: “It’s very personal. Anybody who’s had a father or mother who is aged, and you talk to them by taking away their keys, these are not easy issues…I can sit down and make the case that we did too little about it. I can make the case we did too much. I can play it either way. But the truth is, it’s an important issue.”

This so-called journalist claims he can make the case that was made of Biden’s age in the media. It is abject madness, and it is infuriating, because it shows that they have learned absolutely nothing, and they plan to continue with their lies.

Hiding Biden’s infirmity, the fact that he was by no means actually in charge of the country, is the lie of the century. Every journalist who perpetuated it through their dishonesty or negligence should never work in the industry again.

The liberal news media, which is the vast majority of the nation’s news media, didn’t just get the laptop story wrong or simply miss the signs of Biden’s decline. They intentionally misled the American people in a desperate, dishonest, and thankfully failed, effort to defeat Trump.

That is not forgivable.

Sadly, these Democratic Party propaganda machines posing as news outlets still have no shame or self awareness, and show no signs of righting their sinking ships. But the good news is that Americans are hip to the lies now, almost laughably so.

The liberal media can continue fooling itself, giving each other awards, talking gravely about the importance of truth in the age of Trump. But they themselves are the biggest liars of that age and now the American people, thanks in part to real journalists like Joseph Wulfsohn, damn well know it.

Lakers and Mavericks swap superstars in stunning blockbuster NBA trade

The NBA world was hit with perhaps the craziest trade in a generation in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

According to multiple reports, the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks came to an agreement to swap Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis as part of a three-team blockbuster deal.

The Lakers received Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while the Mavericks took on Davis, Max Christie and Los Angeles’ 2029 first-round pick.

To settle it all out, the Utah Jazz acquired Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the trade early Sunday morning, and because of the star power involved, the immediate reaction was that the reporter had been hacked. However, it was later confirmed by multiple other outlets.

Charania reported that the Mavs approached Los Angeles recently, saying their 25-year-old global superstar was available via trade; Dallas general manager Nico Harrison told ESPN that he was concerned about the team’s defense, which is now massively improved by replacing Dončić with Davis.

2024-25 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP ODDS: THUNDER FAVORED; LAKERS RISE AFTER DONČIĆ TRADE

But Dončić is a phenomenon, and a young one at that. The Slovenian led the NBA with 33.4 points per game last season and won’t turn 26 until later this month. In his career, he averages 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists, putting himself in the MVP conversation every year of his young career.

It was also reported that LeBron James did not find out about the trade until shortly before the news broke, while he was out to dinner in New York shortly after his Lakers defeated the New York Knicks. Davis was ruled inactive for the game.

Davis, a defensive player of the year candidate last year, is putting up 25.7 points and 11.9 rebounds this season, both slightly better than his career averages of 24.2 and 10.7.

The Mavericks lost in the NBA Finals last year, and Dončić received some criticism for his defense and attitude. Perhaps there is more to the story than what’s public right now.

Suspended coach scorches Dems’ ignorance on biology with Trump back in office

A former women’s volleyball coach suspended for fighting back against a university’s handling of a transgender athlete on the women’s team praised President Trump’s changes to Title IX on Sunday, calling them “a great first step in the right direction.”

“Now we need to continue it, and… the laws [have to] change and the NCAA has to make those changes necessary so that we save women’s sports and that we continue to have women’s sports,” Melissa Batie-Smoose, former San Jose State University volleyball coach, told “Fox & Friends Weekend’s” Charlie Hurt.

Batie-Smoose was suspended last year over a Title IX complaint she filed against the school regarding transgender athlete Blaire Fleming, alleging Fleming conspired with an opponent to help the team lose a match and injure teammate Brooke Slusser.

SUSPENDED SAN JOSE STATE COACH EMBROILED IN TRANSGENDER CONTROVERSY SOUNDS ALARM ON WOMEN’S SPORTS

Slusser lamented that her coach’s suspension “took away the only safe space we had.”

Now Batie-Smoose’s contract has expired, and the school is not rehiring her.

“It’s just been a long two years and standing up for what’s right, and making sure we’re continuing to support women and women’s sports is what I stood up for and now currently, after 30 years in my career, [I] have been let go,” she said Sunday.

SAN JOSE STATE’S BROOKE SLUSSER REACTS TO COACH’S SUSPENSION: ‘THEY TOOK AWAY THE ONLY SAFE SPACE WE HAD’

“The people around them [the girls on the team], were not supporting them. The administration, the athletic department, the head coach were all protecting the male and pretty much gaslighting everybody involved,” she added.

“It was a very tough situation for all of them. Very traumatic what they had to go through, and it’s unfortunate they have four years to play collegiate volleyball, and their last two years were affected so much and not being able to play some of their matches.”

San Jose State was unable to comment on the situation, citing personnel matters.

Luxury Florida mall’s string of murders and kidnapping have one thing in common

It’s been 18 years since a South Florida community was rocked by a series of murders and a kidnapping at a local mall, and a retired FBI agent who worked on the cases for over a decade believes the crimes are connected and that the killer may still be “out there.”

After shopping at the Boca Raton Town Center Mall, mother of two Randi Gorenberg and Nancy Bochicchio and her 7-year-old daughter Joey were murdered, and another mother known as Jane Doe was kidnapped with her 2-year-old son, all within a nine-month timeframe in 2007.

“I heard about them just like everybody else on the news, and it was just horrible,” retired FBI Agent John MacVeigh, who investigated the three cases for 10 years, told Fox News Digital. “We contacted Boca Police Department, knowing that it was something that, you know, we could possibly assist.”

‘DATING GAME’ SERIAL KILLER’S RISE TO FAME WAS KEY TO HIS DOWNFALL, ARRESTING OFFICER REVEALS FOR FIRST TIME

Gorenberg, 52, was last seen on surveillance video walking out of the Town Center Mall in the early afternoon of March 23, 2007. About 45 minutes later, someone called 911 from a park about five miles away, claiming to hear gunshots and seeing someone being pushed out of a vehicle. Authorities soon found Gorenberg’s body at Governor Lawton Chiles Memorial Park.

“It does appear that she resisted at some point,” MacVeigh said of Gorenberg. “She was shot and basically thrown out the car while the suspect drove away.”

Less than five months later, Jane Doe and her young son were kidnapped from the parking lot at the same mall. MacVeigh described the harrowing incident as Jane Doe got into her SUV Aug. 7, 2007.

“She puts her son from the passenger side into the center car seat. She walks around to the trunk,” MacVeigh said. “She opens the trunk. She puts the stroller in. She walks back around. As she opens the door to get in the driver’s seat, the suspect had already jumped in the back passenger seat. Now, you’re talking seconds … so he had to be extremely close to her.”

HUSBAND OF NURSE, MOM OF THREE FOUND DEAD AT BOTTOM OF STAIRCASE WENT FOR BEER AFTER FINDING BODY: POLICE

The suspect forced Jane Doe to drive to an ATM and take out $600.

“Just terrified. I mean, she’s in the car with her 2-year-old, and this man has got a gun on her and threatening her,” MacVeigh said.

Unusually, the perpetrator seemed to be “a little bit sympathetic” toward the mother and son, the retired FBI agent added. The gunman decided to drive them back to the mall, where he put blacked-out swim goggles over her eyes and handcuffed her wrists before fleeing.

MacVeigh said, to escape, Jane Doe “took the handcuffs and went up under her feet around to get out from behind her back” and then drove to the valet and reported the attack.

“It was just so blatant and bizarre because you just wouldn’t think that somebody would be accosted in the middle of the day — handcuffed, blindfolded — forced to go to an ATM and then brought back to the same location and dropped off,” he said. “It wasn’t the norm.”

‘DATING GAME KILLER’ KEPT ‘TROPHIES’ THAT ULTIMATELY LED TO HIS DOWNFALL: DETECTIVE

Four months later, 47-year-old Bochicchio and her young daughter Joey went shopping at the Boca Raton Town Center Dec. 12, 2007. And, just like in the case of the abduction, authorities believe they were attacked as they were trying to leave the mall’s parking lot.

Investigators believe they were abducted and taken to an ATM, where they were forced to withdraw $500 and that the suspect used duct tape, plastic ties, handcuffs and goggles to bind and control Bochicchio and her daughter, according to the Boca Raton Police Department’s website.

“Nancy resists. She breaks her handcuffs. We do believe that she tried to get Joey out of the car, and then he turned around and shot both of them,” MacVeigh said.

Officers found the mother and daughter dead shortly before midnight in their vehicle in the mall’s parking lot with the car’s engine still running, police say.

FOLLOW THE FOX TRUE CRIME TEAM ON X

Now a private investigator, MacVeigh observed an similar theme in all three attacks tied to the local mall.

“The suspect was trying to control women,” he explained. In both the Jane Doe and Bochicchio cases, the suspect used a pair of blacked-out swim goggles, as well as other material, to bind and control the victims.

MacVeigh said another repeated detail was the time of day. All three crimes took place in “broad daylight” and “right around the same time.”

“It’s not a small little coincidence. There’s not … one or two small things. This is an accumulation of things,” he added, referring to the related details among the cases.

NEWS ANCHOR’S MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE WAS CRIME OF ‘JEALOUSY’: PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR

Detectives with the Boca Raton Police Department and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office created a task force in January 2007 to work together on solving the Gorenberg and Bochicchio murders, according to the Boca Raton Police Department website. However, the task force later disbanded, and both departments continued working on the individual cases with the FBI’s assistance, MacVeigh said.

Investigators collected several hundred pieces of evidence from the Bochicchio crime, including DNA samples, and “a massive investigation involving resources from around the country” unfolded, the Boca Raton police website added. Detectives went through hours of surveillance video, searched various locations and followed up on leads.

“We sent agents to the mall because they were interested in trying to find out if maybe it was somebody that had worked there,” MacVeigh said. “We issued subpoenas, and we went door to door. It was pretty overwhelming because you don’t realize how many people work at that mall. And I think the number when we were done was somewhere in the neighborhood of 14,000.”

After her abduction, authorities spoke with Jane Doe about the individual who attacked her and created a composite sketch to try to determine his identity.

“You and I could both be that composite. I mean, it’s just you have a hat on with glasses and all you’re seeing is the bottom part of the face,” MacVeigh explained about the drawing’s details.

COP WHO SURVIVED SERIAL KILLER AS A TEEN IS NOW ON TRACK TO BECOME A DETECTIVE

Despite two people of interest being initially identified in the Bochicchio case, according to police, all three cases remain unsolved, and MacVeigh believes the crimes are all connected.

“It’s just so hard to believe that it’s not the same person,” MacVeigh said. “Three of these incidences … in the same area, and very similar. Here you have a very affluent mall … and, you know, you are targeting people that you suspect have money.

“While there is presently no physical or forensic evidence directly linking this case to any other investigations, there are enough similarities to lead Boca Raton investigators to believe this case is related to the August 7, 2007 Town Center Mall carjacking incident,” the Boca Raton Police Department states on its website, referring to the Bochicchio murders being related to the Jane Doe abduction.

MacVeigh said he continues to get calls from investigators who are still tracking down new leads and working on the case today.

“As technology changes and evolves regarding DNA testing, this case is continuously being reevaluated. We remain optimistic that technological advances will lead our investigators to a breakthrough in the investigation,” Jessica Desir, a spokesperson for the Boca Raton Police Department, told WPTV last month regarding the Bochicchio murders.

MacVeigh explained that although the Boca Raton Town Center Mall might have more security measures in place today, a killer is still “out there probably committing other crimes.”

“You want to feel safe going to the mall,” MacVeigh added, stressing the importance of finally solving the cases and getting justice for the Gorenberg and Bochicchio families.

The Boca Raton Police Department, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Boca Raton Town Center Mall did not immediately respond for comment.

83-year-old Martha Stewart too hot for fans to handle in new ‘unhinged’ video

Martha Stewart drove fans wild on social media with what they are calling a “saucy” and “unhinged” new video, featuring a succulent strawberry and a spool of fresh honey.

In the video, Stewart shows off a variety of products from Mac Cosmetics, though most of her followers were focused more on her delivery than the advertisement.

The comment section on the post was filled with fans marveling at Stewart, who amplified the sexiness by speaking softly.

MARTHA STEWART SHOWS OFF SKIN IN CLOSE-UP SELFIES WITH ‘ABSOLUTELY NO RE-IMAGING,’ GETS RIPPED BY FANS

“What gets me in the nude,” she asked. “How about a strawberry, fresh picked from the garden? Best in the hot sun,” she said, biting into the juicy fruit. “Honey,” she said, eating the sticky goo from a spool. “Makes a mess.”

“Ok saucy Martha!!!” one fan wrote. Another commented, “Martha is unhinged these days.”

One of Stewart’s followers joked, “Its like an intro to her OF [OnlyFans].”

“Martha Stewart being dirty wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card,” another comment read.

One person called her a “naughty girl,” while another dubbed her “the hottest woman on the internet.”

A resounding sentiment expressed by fans was that the 83-year-old businesswoman was an “icon” and inspiration. “When I grow up I want to be like Martha,” one user wrote on Instagram. “An icon,” another put simply.

“It’s a good example for others, actually,” she told InStyle, of being revered at an older age. “I’m a teacher. I’m trying to teach others that you can look great. There’s no reason to slump around.”

In a separate interview with AARP, Stewart commented on aging in general, saying it wasn’t something she thought about. “How old I am, slowing down, retiring – I just don’t dwell on that,” she explained.

“People talk about aging successfully, but I think of it as living gracefully and living to the absolute fullest,” she explained. “I’m about trying new things and learning new things every single day. Staying fresh, being interesting and interested. Staying curious, staying busy, developing new friendships.”
