Rubio responds to critics for demonizing Trump: ‘It’s only a bad thing when…’
Secretary of State Marco Rubio pushed back on critics of President Donald Trump’s approach to ending the war in Ukraine on Sunday, saying the president is a “peacemaker.”
Rubio made the comments during an appearance on ABC News’ “This Week,” telling host George Stephenopoulos that Trump is facing attacks simply because he is Trump.
“Shouldn’t we at least try to see if there is a way to end this war in a way that’s acceptable to both sides and is enduring and sustainable? How is that a bad thing?” Rubio said.
“I really am puzzled why anyone thinks that trying to be a peacemaker is a bad thing. It’s only a bad thing when it’s Donald Trump trying to do it. When it’s President Trump. It’s absurd to me,” he added.
ZELENSKYY SPEAKS OUT AFTER PUBLIC SPAT WITH TRUMP, VANCE, SAYS DUSTUP ‘BAD FOR BOTH SIDES’
Rubio went on to reject claims that Trump is working to placate Russia and Vladimir Putin, saying all the administration has done is reach out and say, “are you guys willing to talk about peace?”
Rubio’s appearance comes days after an explosive meeting between Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House last week.
The meeting ended in a shouting match, with Trump arguing Ukraine doesn’t “have the cards” to continue fighting Russia on its own and that a negotiated peace is the best way forward.
Trump later accused Zelenskyy of “disrespecting” the U.S. during their meeting Friday and said the Ukrainian leader was not ready to secure peace for his country.
TRUMP SAYS UKRAINE RARE EARTH MINERALS DEAL WILL LEAD TO ‘SUSTAINABLE’ FUTURE BETWEEN US, UKRAINE
“I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations,” Trump said in a Truth Social post Friday. “I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”
Zelenskyy visited Washington amid negotiations to end the war in Ukraine and was expected to sign a minerals agreement that will allow the U.S. access to Ukraine’s minerals in exchange for support the U.S. has provided the country since Russia’s invasion in 2022.

Dem mayor offers condolences to knife-wielding suspect who attacked officers
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu raised eyebrows over the weekend after she expressed condolences to the family of a knife-wielding suspect who was shot and killed by an off-duty officer after he allegedly tried to stab two people on Saturday night.
The suspect, whose identity was not released by police, brandished a knife near a Chick-fil-A on Boylston Street, a busy part of the Massachusetts capital. He was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer who saw him targeting the two victims, police said.
During a Saturday night press conference, Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said that the officer identified himself to the suspect and asked him to drop his weapon.
“The individual was trying to stab the two individuals in the store, and the off-duty officer identified himself as a police officer, instructing them to drop the weapon, at which point the individual did not comply,” Cox explained. “The officer discharged his weapon to stop the threat, and the individual was struck. The armed individual was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”
BOSTON COUNCILWOMAN SOUNDS OFF AFTER TOM HOMAN’S CPAC PROMISE TO ‘BRING HELL’: ‘WE DON’T SCARE EASY’
Cox added that he was “proud of police officers who activate themselves, whether it’s on duty or off duty, to try to save lives.”
After Cox and Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden both expressed some sadness over the loss of life during the incident, Wu notably did not express sympathy for the two people who were nearly stabbed by the suspect, just those “impacted” by the incident, which happened in “one of the busier parts” of Beantown.
“My condolences, and all of our thoughts, are with the family of the individual whose life has been lost,” Wu said. “And I’m also thinking of all the people who were impacted here today in one of the busier parts of the city with this tragedy.”
“I’m glad that the officer is safe and very grateful for a quick response from all of our first responders here again,” she said.
Wu’s remarks were called out by critics across the country on social media shortly after she spoke. Journalist Jonathan Choe wrote that “[i]t’s all upside down in Boston.”
BOSTON COUNCILWOMAN BACKS OFF AFTER RIDICULING TOM HOMAN’S EMPLOYMENT HISTORY IN FIERY POST: ‘I UNDERSTAND’
“When is the last time you heard of a mayor apologizing to the family of a knife wielding attacker who allegedly tried to kill multiple people?” Choe questioned. “What about the people who were nearly killed?”
“Boston, I’m going to say this as simply as I can: You desperately need a new mayor. Trust me,” conservative commentator Charlie Kirk said in a different X post.
Fox News contributor Joe Concha, a former Boston resident, also weighed in on the incident.
“How exactly did Boston vote for this again?” Concha wrote. “I lived in the Back Bay area. It was one of the safest parts of the city. And she’s offering condolences????”
“Condolences from the mayor of Boston – wait for it – to a knife-wielding man trying to kill people!” Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., said. “Thankfully this guy was stopped in his tracks by a brave law enforcement officer.”
The incident came as Boston officials, including Wu and Cox, have attracted criticism from conservatives for implementing sanctuary city policies. Catherine Vitale, a former city council candidate, told “Fox and Friends” last week that she believes Wu “doesn’t care” about crime in Boston.
“There’s tons of crime almost every single day. There’s a shooting. We don’t always hear about them, but we hear them because we’re there. I don’t think that most of the crime actually even gets reported on. People don’t get arrested. Charges don’t get pressed on people who are looting stores,” Vitale said.

Feds bust human trafficking organization that was holding people hostage in America
Federal agents arrested two Guatemalan men on Friday accused of operating one of the largest human smuggling operations in the United States.
The two were picked up near downtown Los Angeles and are accused of moving 20,000 illegal immigrants into the U.S. from Guatemala since 2019.
Eduardo Domingo Renoj-Matul and Cristobal Mejia-Chaj each appeared in federal court hours after their arrests, and a judge ordered each held without bond. If convicted, they could each face the death penalty.
“These smuggling organizations have no regard for human life and their conduct kills,” said acting U.S. Attorney Joseph McNally. “The indictment and arrests here have dismantled one of the country’s largest and most dangerous smuggling organizations. This work saves lives, and the members of the organization will now face significant consequences.”
PREVIOUSLY DEPORTED GUATEMALAN MAN CONVICTED OF CRIMES IN US ARRESTED IN NEW YORK
Two other men are also charged in the case; Jose Paxtor-Oxlaj, who is behind bars in Oklahoma for his role in a 2023 car crash that killed seven migrants – including five from the same family – and Helmer Obispo-Hernandez, who is described as a “lieutenant” in the smuggling operation.
“Every day, similar human smuggling organizations put profits ahead of the safety in these reckless and illegal endeavors,” said Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles Acting Special Agent in Charge John Pasciucco. “HSI Los Angeles and our partners are committed to continue identifying and dismantling these organizations, so no further lives are lost, and our borders are secure.”
Prosecutors allege Renoj-Matul, who goes by the name Turko, was the ringleader of the operation. He was working with counterparts in Guatemala who would charge migrants $15,000 to $18,000 for safe passage to the United States.
Once here, the migrants were then charged again for additional transport across the country. Renoj-Matul’s indictment alleges migrants under his direction were moved to at least 20 states and Washington, D.C.
GUATEMALA READY FOR MORE DEPORTATIONS UNDER TRUMP, REPORT SAYS: ‘WE KNOW IT’S COMING’
It is believed that migrants who did not pay were held hostage in a stash house in the same Los Angeles neighborhood where Renoj-Matul and Mejia-Chaj were arrested.
In one incident last year, prosecutors alleged Renoj-Matul called the mother of a migrant he was holding hostage and threatened that she “would come home in a box” if her smuggling fees were not paid.

Gene Hackman’s friends open up about ‘reclusive’ behavior before his death
SANTA FE, N.M. — Gene Hackman’s friend, Stuart Ashman, wishes he had stayed closer with the actor before his mysterious death but will always have fond memories and a treasured painting from the late actor.
“Obviously, he was 95, so he was slowing down,” Ashman told Fox News Digital. “And after COVID, he was more reclusive, protecting his immune system and everything else.”
He continued, “I really am puzzled by the whole thing. You know, there’s a lot of different reports coming out. It’s kind of a tragic mystery in a way. And I can’t really speculate on what it could have been. Certainly nothing dark there. I think it gets compounded by the fact that it was the two of them and the dog. But I don’t know beyond that.”
Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their home last Wednesday. Authorities have said the couple had been dead for several days when they were discovered but have not released a cause of death.
GENE HACKMAN, WIFE FOUND DEAD IN SPRAWLING SANTA FE ESTATE: WHAT THE INVESTIGATION TELLS US SO FAR
Daniel and Barbara Lenihan and their son, Aaron, also recently spoke with People Magazine about Hackman and Arakawa, saying Hackman had been “essentially kind of home-bound” in “recent times” and “quit riding his bike through the neighborhood.”
Aaron told the outlet, “Betsy tried to keep him kind of active and engaged,” adding that Hackman did puzzles and yoga via Zoom daily.
“She was still trying to keep him as active and engaged and healthy as possible,” Aaron said.
Daniel and Barbara also said in the “last couple of months,” Hackman “was really slipping there.”
GENE HACKMAN’S 911 CALLER DISTRAUGHT OVER COUPLE’S MYSTERIOUS DEATH, SAYS THEY TREATED PEOPLE ‘LIKE GOLD’
The family also recalled that Arakawa was “very protective of him in terms of COVID, so she’d always wear a mask when we’d see her out.”
“They seemed like real life partners, really, really close to each other, and they were both incredibly kind. And they were reserved, but they were real [and] a lot of fun,” Aaron told People.
The last time Ashman and Hackman spoke was before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the gap in conversation is one he regrets.
“It was before COVID, and it reminded me of when I was a kid. My father had a friend who he had not been in contact with, and we went to visit him. And then he had been dead for a few days. And my father lamented not having called him. And I feel the same way,” he said.

“You don’t think about it, but your friend is there, and you figure they’re all right. I mean, the last time I think I talked to him… he had a place that he rented in the Florida Keys for the winter, you know, a couple of winter months anyway. And he was going there. So that’s the last time I talked to him when he was going there.”
Hackman and Ashman met in the late ’90s when they served on a committee together at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, and they bonded further through a shared Pilates teacher.
“Obviously, he was 95, so he was slowing down. And after COVID, he was more reclusive protecting his immune system and everything else.”
“He was the class after me, and it was a one-on-one class, and we would sit and talk for long enough that the teacher said, ‘Gene, are you’re going to take a class today or are you just going to talk to Stuart?’ And that’s really kind of how it was. It was a strong connection. Although, you know, now that he’s passed, I lament the fact that we didn’t spend more time together.”
Ashman, the co-owner of Artes de Cuba Gallery and former secretary of cultural affairs for New Mexico, also has a small farm with chickens. He would regularly deliver a dozen eggs to Hackman.
GENE HACKMAN’S CO-STAR, GARY SINISE, SAYS STAR WAS LIVING ‘QUIET LIFE’ OUTSIDE HOLLYWOOD BEFORE MYSTERIOUS DEATH
“One day he brought me a painting and I said, ‘You can’t give me this painting.’ He says, ‘Yeah, you’ve been giving me eggs for months.’ So I traded a painting for eggs, which is pretty nice. So now I have this wonderful treasure.”
Ashman shared that Hackman was active in the community, explaining that “he was invested in a lot of other businesses in Santa Fe.”
“I knew people that he really backed businesses, if he liked somebody, he’d get involved in their business. And I don’t think it wasn’t a moneymaking thing for him. It was really to help people out.”
Hackman was also often seen out exercising and was “in great shape” even at an advanced age.

“He was very fit, you know, and he was 6 foot 2 plus an ex-Marine. He did Pilates like three times a week. And then on the days that he didn’t do Pilates, he would load his bicycle up to his SUV and drive to Albuquerque, which is 70 miles, and ride this trail down there, which is along the river and it’s paved and level. So he didn’t want to do mountain biking, but he did that. So he was in great shape,” Ashman said.
His fondest memories of Hackman remain their conversations at the Pilates classes, joking that sometimes their talks would be “a guy thing” and other times they’d discuss politics, including Ashman’s childhood in Cuba, where Hackman had spent some time.
They also bonded over their shared military service.

“He was a Marine and I was a naval reservist. So we had some good jokes about those days. I mean, it was a different era. I mean, he’s older than I am. So I don’t know if he was involved in any combat or anything like that, but I certainly wasn’t that.”

Hackman also shared a fun behind-the-scenes piece of trivia about one of his most famous films, “The French Connection.”
Ashman went to high school in the neighborhood where the movie’s famous car chase was filmed, which features several real-life crashes and near-misses.

“He told me this story about, after years after the movie, this guy he ran into in New York said, ‘Hey, man, you don’t know what you did for me. You saved my life, I owe you.’ And he said, ‘What are you talking about?’ He says, ‘When you were filming “The French Connection,” they closed all the streets. But I didn’t know about it. And I had my car in my driveway, and when I pulled out, you slammed into me. And then a producer came and gave me $20,000.'”
He added, “In those days, you could buy a new Chevy for $4,500. So it was a big deal.”
WNBA star trashes America, refuses to back down on ‘woke’ defense
Natasha Cloud, the WNBA champion guard who currently plays for the Connecticut Sun, fired off a defiant message on social media following her suggestion that the U.S. has focused on profit over people many times.
Cloud made the remarks in an interview with The Associated Press and defended programs that promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Amid criticism over her words, Cloud didn’t appear to waver.

“Then come back to me and tell me the whole world crazy.”
Cloud said last week it was important for athletes to speak out now more than ever as Trump ended government DEI programs, and corporations followed suit.

“The systems of power are working as they always were intended to work,” Cloud said. “And it’s time to break down a system that has only been about White men.”
Cloud then said she believed the county had put its focus on “money over people.”
“I understand the business aspect and I understand the human aspect,” Cloud said. “Too often this country has put the human aspect aside, and put profit and money over people.”

Meghan Markle accused of copying American icon’s cooking show ‘frame for frame’
Along with several recent controversies, Meghan Markle is now being accused of copying Pamela Anderson’s cooking show with her upcoming lifestyle series.
“Every single day another allegation regarding the conduct of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, seems to emerge, the latest being her new show is similar in style to the Pamela Anderson program,” royal expert Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital.
The Duchess of Sussex’s new Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” premieres Tuesday and will feature the 43-year-old talking with celebrity guests in the kitchen and garden near her home in Montecito, California.
Fans have started comparing the trailer for the duchess’ series to Anderson’s series, “Pamela’s Cooking With Love,” which premiered last week.
MEGHAN MARKLE BULLYING CLAIMS RESURFACE AFTER FORMER ROYAL AIDE SPEAKS OUT, CASTING DARK CLOUD OVER HER FUTURE
Royal expert Neil Sean, in a video for his YouTube channel, called Markle’s show a “frame-for-frame” copy in some cases.
“As you can see, Meghan has been inspired by her [Anderson’s] cookery show, right?” Sean said, showing a shot of Markle high-fiving her guest on set next to one of Anderson high-fiving her guest.
He noted “there’s very little new in the world of cookery,” mentioning a popular show he used to watch as a kid.
“It’s difficult to reinvent it, but Meghan didn’t even bother with that. Clearly, she just got inspired,” he said.
Sean said a “very well-placed source” told him Anderson is “actually delighted with Meghan Markle. Well, maybe that’s stretching it a bit but, you know, kind of happy for this simple reason. You see, this has elevated Pamela’s show. You know, the sort of publicity she could have only dreamt about.”
“Not only that, this is going to be very successful for Pamela Anderson in effect, Meghan being inspired by Pamela’s show,” he added. “It’s literally been an injection back into Pamela’s brand.

“So, if Meghan thought that nobody would spot this, well, now clearly nobody’s going to want to watch Meghan simply because they’ve kind of seen it first with Pamela.”
But he said Anderson isn’t interested in taking legal action against Markle, citing a “very good source” who is close with Anderson who said, “She’s not interested in going down that sort of route.”
“Apparently, she wishes everybody the very best,” Sean said.
British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital, “Although Meghan will have a big say in her lifestyle series, it is steered and edited by Netflix. Netflix’s prerequisite is sales, and they will be using a trusted format to create the series and sales. It’s a numbers game.”

She said that while she imagined Markle had taken “some tips” from Anderson, she felt it was unfair to say Markle “completely copied Pamela’s show”.
“Pamela also focuses on wholesome food and meals, whereas Meghan’s show doesn’t focus on cooking,” Chard explained. “It is a plus sign that the formats are similar as it signifies a possible success story for Meghan and her lifestyle show.”
Chard added that Markle would help her brand by coming off as “authentic and consistent.”
She predicted the first episode of “With Love, Meghan” would be a “huge success” because “people are curious, and there is an awareness drive around her series.
“The fact that she is married to Prince Harry with two beautiful children is the standout factor,” Chard added, saying she wasn’t sure how different Markle’s show was from different lifestyle series.
MEGHAN MARKLE’S ‘AVALANCHE OF MISSTEPS’ MAKE IT A STRUGGLE TO WIN BACK THE PUBLIC: EXPERTS
She noted Markle could “thrive by taking a leaf out of Pamela Anderson’s book. Pamela has a sincere, raw and appealing character which automatically makes her a winner.”
Pelham Turner further explained that after his many years of working in TV, he’s found it’s “common practice” to follow the “trend” of another successful show.
“Although the artist will have a large say in the matter, in the end, it is the channel which decides the direction and flow of the show,” he said. “In reality, Pamela Anderson is a very nice, kind and thoughtful lady, so is Meghan, and so the two share the same dynamics and values.”
Public relations expert Matt Wolf noted that he didn’t think the accusations would hurt Marke’s brand “all that much.”
“People already feel strongly about her, one way or the other, so I think she’d have to do something much more radical than produce a show similar to Pamela’s in order to hurt her well-established brand,” he explained to Fox News Digital.
