Blue state DA says violent Venezuelan gangs are far from a ‘fake’ problem

A Colorado district attorney is arguing that those who are trying to dismiss the issue of Venezuelan gangs in the state have been taking an “ignorance-is-bliss approach to the law.”

“There were the two extreme positions. One was, ‘Hey, they’d taken over the city’… then you’d have the people on the far left in the mainstream media saying ‘there’s no such thing as a country of Venezuela. Venezuelans don’t exist. It’s all made up. It’s a figment of your imagination,’” Colorado’s 23rd Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler told Fox News Digital.

“The truth is, Venezuelan gangs did take over the running of about 2 to 3 different apartment complexes… so to suggest that this isn’t an issue is fake. It is a giant issue. It is a growing issue. And this sort of ignorance is bliss approach to the law.”

The comments come as Colorado has recently entered the national spotlight as a result of the state’s sanctuary laws, which have limited local jurisdictions from being able to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

DENVER MAYOR GRILLED OVER AREA’S TREN DE ARAGUA PROBLEM AS GOP LAWMAKER SAYS POLICIES TO BLAME

The issue became even more controversial in the last few months after reports of the spread of the violent Venezuelan immigrant gang Tren de Aragua, which had taken over multiple apartment complexes in the Colorado city of Aurora.

The state was further highlighted in Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing, when Denver Mayor Mike Johnston was grilled by lawmakers over his city’s lack of cooperation with federal authorities.

“The illegal immigrant gang Tren de Aragua targeted Denver to be their American HQ because of weak immigration laws,” Republican Colorado Rep. Gabe Evans told Fox News Digital after the hearing.

For his part, Brauchler argued that Johnston’s answers during the hearing were just an attempt to “deflect” the conversation from the overall issue.

“My sense of those answers, though, were intended to deflect from the underlying and key question here. And that is, can a city, should a state stick itself between illegal aliens and the federal law? And the answer is a very obvious and easy no,” he told Fox News Digital.

DENVER MAYOR SAYS HE’S PREPARED TO GO TO JAIL OVER OPPOSITION TO TRUMP DEPORTATIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

Despite that “obvious answer,” Brauchler told Fox News Digital that Colorado’s Democratic-controlled government has doubled down on sanctuary policies.

“Starting in 2018, Colorado became awash in blue, and the legislature and the governorship have been controlled by the Democrats since then, and they have done everything they can to make Colorado a sanctuary state,” he said. “One of the laws that our state legislature passed fully embraced by Denver is to make our courthouses sanctuaries for illegal immigrants. They ban the enforcement of any immigration laws inside those courthouses.”

Brauchler said similar legislation is currently in the works, this time banning immigration enforcement on the way to and from the courthouse as well.

“Can you imagine any city or state creating barriers that say, ‘I’m sorry, local law enforcement, you can’t communicate with the FBI about a fugitive you can’t communicate with.’ Heck, the IRS about a tax cheat…. you can’t communicate with the DEA about known drug dealers? It is only with illegal immigrants that there seems to be this sense of creating these municipal and statewide barriers to law enforcement,” he said.

Nevertheless, Brauchler said he is committed to fighting back against the policies in order to make residents of the state safer.

“If you’re an illegal immigrant, and you’re here in this jurisdiction, get legal. If you can’t or won’t get legal, then be on your best behavior,” he said. “Because once you violate our laws, do not expect me to come to your rescue and figure out a way to keep you at a place that says you shouldn’t be here to begin with.”

Dems reportedly rebuke colleagues who jeered Trump during speech to Congress

A group of Democratic members of Congress who jeered, displayed handheld signs in protest or used other methods to distract from President Donald Trump’s speech on Tuesday evening to Congress have been reprimanded in closed-door meetings with their own leadership, according to a recent report.

Multiple Democratic members of Congress made headlines for their very public protests during Trump’s speech Tuesday evening to a joint session of Congress. Notably, Democratic Rep. Al Green was censured by Congress on Thursday morning after he shouted at Trump and waved his cane at the president during his speech.

“It’s a consultative process,” one source familiar told Axios of the meetings that have occurred since, involving both protesting members and House Democratic leadership. “We understand the pressure they are under.”

“They are not being talked to like they are children,” the source continued. “We are helping them understand why their strategy is a bad idea.”

13-YEAR-OLD CANCER SURVIVOR EARNS STANDING OVATION AS HE BECOMES SECRET SERVICE AGENT DURING TRUMP SPEECH

A House Democrat told Axios that Democrats should have known better than to use unorthodox methods to publicly protest Trump during his speech.

“It doesn’t surprise me leadership is very upset,” the lawmaker said. “They gave specific instructions not to do that.”

“Would they have done that to [Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi]? You know the answer: Never,” the lawmaker continued to Axios. “So you’ve got to put the hammer down.”

A second House Democrat told Axios that leadership is “very unhappy” with the Democratic hecklers, explaining that multiple lawmakers, including Reps. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., and Maxine Dexter, D-OR, were requested to attend a “come to Jesus meeting” to discuss their behavior.

MODERATES REVEAL WHY THEY DIDN’T JOIN FELLOW DEMS TO CENSURE AL GREEN

Democratic strategists outside of Congress also responded to the behavior of outspoken lawmakers during Trump’s speech.

“I’m sure Rep. Green got plenty of attaboys from the base for his protest,” Democratic strategist David Axelrod told Politico in an interview. “But with many other Americans — and not just Republicans — it was no more appealing than Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert heckling Biden,” Axelrod said. “It’s just not particularly helpful.”

MSNBC host blasted for her comments about child cancer survivor sees ratings dive

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace, who generated headlines this week for widely criticized comments about a 13-year-old cancer survivor featured in President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, has seen her ratings suffer since Democrats lost power.

Wallace’s MSNBC program, “Deadline: White House,” averaged 1.6 million total viewers from the start of 2024 until Election Day, then saw a dramatic 35% drop once Trump prevailed. “Deadline: White House” averaged just over one million viewers for the remainder of 2024 as its liberal audience largely tuned out the news on the heels of Trump’s victory.

“Deadline: White House” saw a similar decline in the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults aged 25-54, averaging 144,000 demo viewers in 2024 before the election but shedding 35% to settle for an average demo audience of 93,000 following the devastating loss for Democrats.

MSNBC HOSTS CALL TRUMP’S COMMENTS ON 13-YEAR-OLD CANCER SURVIVOR IN SPEECH ‘DISGUSTING’ POLITICAL MOVE

So far in 2025, Wallace’s program has averaged 1.1 million viewers for a 25% decline compared to the same time period in 2024. Fox News Channel programming that airs during Wallace’s 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. timeslot has averaged 3.6 million viewers this year, more than triple the viewership of “Deadline: White House.”

In the key demo, Wallace has averaged 108,000 viewers this year, trailing cable offerings such as “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” on the Food Network and BET’s “Tyler Perry’s Sistas.”

But Wallace has remained firmly in the zeitgeist, drumming up negative attention with controversial remarks.

One of the most memorable moments from Trump’s address on Tuesday was when he put a spotlight on teenager DJ Daniel, an aspiring police officer who was told by doctors six years ago he had five months to live when he was first diagnosed with brain cancer.

“Tonight, DJ, we’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all,” Trump said. “I am asking our new Secret Service Director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States.”

13-YEAR-OLD CANCER SURVIVOR EARNS STANDING OVATION AS HE BECOMES SECRET SERVICE AGENT DURING TRUMP SPEECH

When Wallace appeared on MSNBC’s post-address coverage, she linked the young boy to Jan. 6 and the suicide of Capitol Police officers.

“I let myself feel joy about DJ, and I hope he’s alive for another, you know, 95 years, and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop. He knows what he wants to do, and maybe when you have childhood cancer, that crystallizes for you,” Wallace told viewers before taking a dark turn.

“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer,” Wallace continued. “But I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters, and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide, and I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”

KAROLINE LEAVITT CALLS OUT NICOLLE WALLACE OVER COMMENT ON 13-YEAR-OLD CANCER SURVIVOR, TRUMP ‘HATRED’

The comments ignited sharp condemnation, even making their way to the White House.

“Frankly, what Nicolle Wallace said- I’ve never been a fan of hers, and she’s not very talented, but I will tell you what she said the other day about the young man is disgraceful. She should be forced to resign,” Trump said on Thursday.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also put Wallace on blast during Wednesday’s press briefing.

Wallace was heavily scolded on social media and generated a plethora of negative headlines. The New York Post, Newsweek, TheWrap, Daily Mail and The Baltimore Sun were among the outlets to put a spotlight on backlash over her linking Daniel to Jan. 6 and the suicide of Capitol Police officers.

Police reveal cause of death for Chiefs fans found frozen in yard after two men arrested

The causes of death have been revealed for the three Kansas City Chiefs fans who were found dead in the backyard of their friend’s home in January 2024.

A forensic exam determined David Harrington, 37, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and Ricky Johnson, 38, “all died of fentanyl and cocaine combined toxicity,” according to court documents reviewed by Fox News Digital.

The documents reveal what responding officers encountered the day they were called to the Kansas City, Missouri, rental home, where the group of longtime friends had celebrated the Chiefs’ victory just days earlier.

On Wednesday, Jordan Willis and Ivory J. Carson were charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of delivery of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid. Each charge carries a maximum of 10 years.

SUSPECTS IN KANSAS CITY CHIEFS FANS’ DEATHS PLEAD NOT GUILTY

Willis and Carson had court appearances Thursday, joining separately via video from the jail, wearing orange jumpsuits during their arraignment in Platte County, Missouri.

Willis’ lawyer, John Picerno, entered a not guilty plea on Willis’ behalf, and the judge entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Carson, who does not yet have an attorney and plans to apply for a public defender.

Deadly Kansas City discovery

McGeeney’s fiancée, April Mahoney, called authorities after discovering the frozen bodies of the trio on Jan. 9, 2024. The friends had gathered at Willis’ rental property to watch the Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers around 7 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2024.

Mahoney, according to court documents, grew alarmed that her fiancée had seemingly disappeared – eventually going to the home and spotting McGeeney’s red Ford F-150 pickup truck parked outside the residence.

Repeated door knocking yielded no response, leading Mahoney to climb through a basement window, documents revealed.

“They located an isolated deceased person on the back patio and called police,” documents say, without specifying which body was first found.

Court documents note that all three of the victims were found deceased in the backyard of the home.

When police arrived at the single-family home, Mahoney told authorities that her fiancée would drink and use cocaine. She noted that McGeeney “would get low on money,” and Willis would “usually supply cocaine to his friends.”

Police wrote in court documents that they discovered a bag of a “white powdery substance” in the top drawer of an end table and a second bag of “white powdery substance” on top of the entertainment center in the living room.

Willis told police on Jan. 9 that he believed McGeeney, Harrington and Johnson had left his home on Jan. 8 around 4 a.m., according to court documents. Picerno previously told Fox News Digital that his client went to sleep while the four men were still awake and hanging out at the house.

Picerno also previously revealed to FOX 4 that Willis was asleep with air buds and a loud fan on.

FAMILY OF KANSAS CITY CHIEFS FAN FOUND DEAD OUTSIDE PAL’S HOUSE THINKS HE WAS DRUGGED

Two other unidentified witnesses, who were present at the football watch party, told police that they “drank, smoked marijuana and used cocaine.” One of the witnesses said that he left “shortly before midnight” on Jan. 8, documents said.

Another witness said that before heading to Willis’ rental home, he saw a “large plate of cocaine allegedly supplied by Mr. Willis that everyone was using” at Harrington’s home, the documents said.

Court records also indicated that Carson, who went by “Blade Brown,” supplied and sold cocaine to Willis and the victims, and that his DNA was found on a bag of fentanyl.

Trump explains why he approved temporary changes to tariffs in FOX exclusive

In an effort to provide clarity over his latest tariff negotiations, President Donald Trump explained why he approved another one-month pause on the 25% levy on Canada and Mexico.

“I wanted to help Mexico and Canada to a certain extent. We’re a big, big country, and they do a lot of their business with us, whereas in our case, it’s much less significant. We do very little with Canada by comparison. And I wanted to help the American carmakers until April 2nd. April 2nd, it becomes all reciprocal,” Trump told FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo in an exclusive interview.

“But this is short-term. And I felt that for the good of the American carmakers and the USMCA… I thought it would be a fair thing to do,” the president continued. “And so I gave them a little bit of a break for this short period of time.”

On Thursday, Trump announced he would exempt most goods from Canada and Mexico covered under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) from his 25% tariffs for the next month.

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: ‘I’M NOT WORRIED ABOUT INFLATION’ FROM TARIFFS

The tariffs went into effect earlier this week and are now set to be reinstated on April 2. After Trump enacted them, Canada also said it would place reciprocal, retaliatory tariffs on the U.S.

“The tariffs could go up as time goes by, and they may go up,” Trump expanded with Bartiromo.

“For years, the globalists, the big globalists, have been ripping off the United States. They’ve been taking money away from the United States. And all we’re doing is getting some of it back, and we’re going to treat our country fairly,” he added.

As part of his Day One initiatives, Trump said tariffs would be placed on America’s trade neighbors after declaring fentanyl deaths a national emergency.

He said the drug makes its way from China to the U.S. via Mexican and Canadian imports.

“This country has been ripped off from every, every nation in the world, every company outside in the world. We’ve been ripped off at levels never seen before. Bartiromo’s full, wide-ranging interview with President Trump will air March 9 at 10 a.m. ET on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Hostage freed from Hamas’ grip of terror tells Trump he gave them hope

Hostages freed from Gaza visited President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to tell him that his re-election to the White House gave them hope after hundreds of days in Hamas captivity.

In a Thursday press event, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff told reporters that seven people freed from Gaza, along with some of their loved ones, met with the president this week to share their horrific stories of abduction, severe abuse and time in captivity.

One Israeli hostage, Omer Shem Tov, who was freed on Feb. 22, told the president that he believed Trump had “been sent by God” to secure their release.

HAMAS TREATMENT OF HOSTAGES ‘INTOLERABLE,’ TRUMP ENVOY SAYS

“They talked about how they heard about his election, and they were uplifted,” Witkoff said of the meeting.  “They were elated waiting for him because they knew he was going to help them get rescued.”

Witkoff, who described the event as “emotional,” also reiterated the Trump administration’s commitment to securing the release of more hostages.

Reports this week revealed that the Trump administration has begun directly negotiating with Hamas – a revelation that apparently frustrated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Details of the negotiations remain unclear, though reports suggested the Trump team had proposed a 60-day ceasefire and the release of an additional 10 hostages – though who would be included in the next release remains unclear as there are 25 hostages still assessed to be alive, including one American.

“Edan Alexander is very important to us as – all the hostages are – but Edan Alexander is an American, and he’s injured. And so, he’s a top priority for us,” Witkoff told reporters.

AFTER TRUMP THREAT, HAMAS REFUSES TO RELEASE MORE HOSTAGES WITHOUT PHASE 2 CEASEFIRE DEAL

Witkoff confirmed that Adam Boehler, special envoy in charge of hostages, had been involved in the recent negotiations attempting to secure the second phase of the ceasefire agreement which is supposed to see the release of the remaining hostages.

“We feel that Hamas has not been forthright with us. And it’s time for them to be forthright with us,” Witkoff said.  “Edan Alexander would be a very important show.”

Trump issued another warning on social media this week, telling Hamas to release all hostages immediately. Though Hamas has thus far responded by saying they will only begin the release of more hostages if a second phase in the ceasefire is agreed to.

There are 59 hostages still held by Hamas, including one individual who was taken by the terrorist group separate from the October 2023 attacks.

Some 35 hostages are assessed to have been killed by Hamas and whose bodies are still being held, including four Americans: Omer Neutra, Itay Chen, Gadi Haggai and Judi Weinstein Haggai – all of whom are believed to have been killed on Oct. 7, 2023.

Wikipedia co-founder has request for Elon Musk as DOGE slashes government waste

Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger is calling on Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency to look into whether government actors have infiltrated the online encyclopedia that he helped start over two decades ago.

“Hi @ElonMusk. Wikipedia co-founder here. May I ask you to determine what branches of the U.S. government—if any!—have employees paid to edit, monitor, update, lobby, etc., WIkipedia? Such operations should be defunded, if any. If there are *none*, we’d like to know. Agree?” Sanger recently wrote on X.

Sanger, who left the organization in 2002, has been a heavy critic of Wikipedia since about 2005, when he says the website began to drift into left-wing bias.

“I like to call myself its founder now because I kind of want to distance myself from it,” Sanger told Fox News Digital.

ELON MUSK SLAMS WIKIPEDIA FOR CONSIDERING ‘DELETION’ OF ‘TWITTER FILES’ ENTRY: ‘NON-TRIVIAL LEFT-WING BIAS’

Sanger says the website has long abandoned its neutrality policy, which he helped develop at its beginning.

The “neutral point of view” policy, which Wikipedia says is still one of its guiding principles, means content presented on the website is “represented fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias,” according to Wikipedia’s own definition.

“Neutrality means you can’t tell what position a person takes on the topic,” Sanger told Fox News Digital. “Any of the controversial issues that the topic of the article raises, you can’t tell what position they take on them. Almost no Wikipedia articles these days rise to that level.”

Sanger said he could see the evolution of the website when looking at articles on topics like global warming, which he said had once been presented fairly but now appear one-sided.

“More and more of the positions disapproved by the establishment began to be downplayed and ultimately essentially dismissed and even demonized as the years went by. By 2015, 2020, it was fully woke,” he argued.

He argued there is a liberal spin when looking at articles on political figures as well.

“If the candidate is a Republican, then the worst points are brought out. The best points are minimized. If the candidate is a Democrat, then it is a puff piece, essentially,” he claimed, citing pages on Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

KAMALA HARRIS’ WIKIPEDIA PAGE SCRUBBED OF INFORMATION AMID VEEPSTAKES, IGNITING ONLINE FIGHT

With the new Trump administration’s goal to tackle waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government, Sanger sees a prime opportunity for DOGE to take another look at Wikipedia.

He believes there’s evidence to raise questions about potential government influence on the website and warned there could be foreign influence from China or Russia on the website as well.

“So I just want to know what the heck they’ve been doing there,” Sanger told Fox News Digital. “It seems to me this is a thing that needs to be discussed.”

“I actually want the heat to be on both the government and on Wikipedia to take this sort of behavior in hand,” he added.

ELON MUSK JOKES HE’LL GIVE $1B TO WIKIPEDIA IF SITE CHANGES NAME

Musk, who has also long been a critic of Wikipedia, seemed receptive to Sanger’s request.

In a follow-up tweet to President Trump that’s drawn over 35 million views, Sanger asked Trump to write an executive order barring federal workers and government funds from being used to edit or pay for editing on Wikipedia.

“Good idea,” Musk replied.

Surviving roommates’ haunting text messages from night of Idaho massacre released

FIRST ON FOX: Text messages between two surviving roommates from the home in Moscow, Idaho, where four university students were killed in a home invasion stabbing attack have been revealed publicly for the first time in a newly unsealed court filing.

The roommates, identified in court documents only as DM and BF, appear to have been awake and discussing the possibility of a masked trespasser approximately five minutes after the attack.

DM has previously been identified as the only eyewitness who saw the intruder – a masked man with “bushy eyebrows” – in the six-bedroom house on King Road. Based on her statements to police and audio from a security camera next door, the attacker is believed to have left the house shortly after 4:17 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2022.

The attack left four people dead – Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.

BRYAN KOHBERGER DOESN’T WANT AMAZON SHOPPING LIST REVEALED AT TRIAL

The filing reveals text messages that DM and BF exchanged between 4:22 and 4:24, as well as texts DM sent to some of the victims before dawn and again around 10:20 a.m. Prior to the texts, DM tried to call BF and three of the victims. None of her calls were answered.

“No one is answering,” DM wrote to BF, according to the filing. “I’m rlly confused rn.”

Read the excerpts from moments after the slayings:

“Kaylee,” DM wrote in another text. “What’s going on?”

DM also appeared to reference the intruder she later told police she encountered when peering out of her bedroom door. She referenced something “like a ski mask almost.”

IDAHO POLICE RECOVERED A 3-PERSON MIXTURE OF DNA UNDER MADDIE MOGEN’S FINGERNAILS

Read the excerpts from morning after:

“Like he had soemtbinfover (sic) is for head and little nd mouth”

BF urged her to “run” downstairs. According to other court filings released this week, DM spent the night in BF’s room and an unnamed person called 911 from BF’s phone around noon the next day.

At 10:23 a.m., DM texted both Mogen and Goncalves. “Pls answer,” she wrote. “R u up??” She then called her father around 11:40 a.m.

Timeline of Nov. 13, 2022:

  • 4:00 AM: Suspect arrives at house
  • Between 4 and 4:17: Time of murders
  • 4:19: Roommate calls 3 victims, no one answers
  • 4:22 to 4:24: Surviving roommates text each other from inside house
  • 4:27: Roommate calls victims again, no one answers
  • 4:32: Roommate texts Goncalves ‘Pls answer’
  • 10:23: Surviving roommate texts victims, no one answers
  • 11:39: Roommate calls her father
  • 12:00 PM.: 911 call placed from roommate’s phone

Prosecutors are asking the court to allow them to introduce the texts as evidence.

Read the redacted 911 call transcript

Prosecutors allege that police found a Ka-Bar knife sheath under Mogen’s body that had DNA on it that led them to the suspect, Bryan Kohberger, a 30-year-old former Ph.D. student who was studying criminology at the nearby Washington State University at the time of the crime.

Separately, the court also released a transcript of a frantic 911 call that reveals multiple callers spoke with the dispatcher trying to explain they had found Kernodle unresponsive and someone had seen an intruder the night before.

Additional filings made public Thursday evening include a list of records that prosecutors plan to introduce as evidence and another defense motion seeking to have the death penalty removed as a potential sentence if there is a conviction – this time arguing that prosecutors have failed to meet discovery deadlines.

“Striking the death penalty is the only remedy that begins to adequately address the prejudice to Mr. Kohberger,” defense attorney Anne Taylor wrote. “Even with a ‘hot documents’ list and detailed expert disclosures— the minimum necessary for this case to proceed to trial—counsel is at a massive disadvantage given the limited resources as compared to the State and the fact that only five months remain before trial.”

The proseuction’s evidence ranges from Kohberger’s banking and shopping records to surveillance video on the night of the crime.

Prosecutors also plan to introduce National Weather Service reports from Nov. 12 and Nov. 13, 2022 – which could potentially challenge Kohberger’s alibi about driving around looking at the moon and stars during the time of the crime.
