General Situation
A southerly airstream is affecting the coast of Guangdong. Besides, the cold front over inland Guangdong is moving southwards gradually and is expected to reach the coast of Guangdong later in the afternoon to around the evening today. It will bring showers and squally thunderstorms to the region.
Forecast Description
Cloudy with occasional showers. Showers will be heavier in some areas with a few squally thunderstorms. Fresh southwesterly winds at first, strengthening gradually from the north, occasionally reaching gale force offshore and on high ground. Showers will ease off gradually at night. Temperatures will drop significantly.
Cool and windy tomorrow morning. Sunny periods during the day. Winds will moderate later. It will be mainly fine and very dry in the following couple of days, with a rather large temperature difference between day and night.

The cold front over inland Guangdong is moving southwards. The associated showers and squally thunderstorms are expected to affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary in the next few hours. Showers will be heavier in some areas and there may also be violent gusts. Fresh southwesterlies are currently affecting the territory. With the cold front moving across the coastal areas, local winds will become northerlies, with temperatures dropping significantly. Winds will strengthen significantly, occasionally reaching gale force offshore and on high ground. The northeast monsoon having such strength is relatively rare in April. Members of the public, especially those working at height or engaging in outdoor activities, should be on the alert, take note of the change in wind direction, take special care against high winds, and fasten objects that are likely to be blown away.
Intense gusts may affect Hong Kong. Seek safe shelter as soon as possible if you are staying outdoors.

Thunderstorm Warning issued at 2:27 p.m. on 12 Apr 2025 has been extended until 7:00 p.m. today. A few squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong.
Intense gusts reaching 70 kilometres per hour or above may affect Hong Kong.
Members of the public are advised to take the following precautions when thunderstorms occur:
1. Seek safe shelter as soon as possible if you are staying outdoors.
2. Leave the water. Do not swim outdoors or engage in other outdoor water sports.
3. Do not stand on high grounds. Keep away from highly conductive objects, trees or masts.
4. Take precautions against intense gusts. Beware of flying debris and falling objects.
5. Drivers using highways and flyovers should reduce speed to be alert to intense gusts.
