President Donald Trump addressed the nation in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death, the conservative activist who was tragically shot Wednesday during an appearance at Utah Valley University.

The president spoke with sincerity and compassion, calling the perpetrator a “monster” and declaring it a “dark moment for America.”

Trump’s remarks in the four-minute statement focused on Kirk’s legacy as a patriot and leader, while also condemning the culture of political demonization that fuels violence.

He described Kirk as a “wonderful American” who embodied the values of faith, liberty, and courage, and vowed that his administration would pursue accountability for those responsible.

Trump also reminded Americans of the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year, placing Kirk’s death in a broader context of escalating political violence across America.

Kirk, 31, was answering questions from students during the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour” when a gunman fired a shot from a rooftop, fatally striking him in the neck.

The shocking assassination of the Turning Point USA co-founder abruptly ended the event as thousands ran in panic and left the nation reeling.

Trump confirmed the death on Truth Social before later delivering his solemn address celebrating Kirk’s life and impact.

CHARLIE KIRK NAMES JD VANCE AS GUIDING LIGHT FOR YOUNG CONSERVATIVES, BUT SAYS GOP MUST DELIVER ON PROMISES

“Charlie inspired millions, and tonight all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror,” he said.

“He was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loved so much — the United States of America. He fought for liberty, democracy, justice and the American people. He’s a martyr for truth and freedom, and there’s never been anyone who was so respected by youth,” Trump said.

The president also emphasized Kirk’s rare bond with the younger generations, saying, “His mission was to bring young people into the political process, which he did better than anybody ever, to share his love of country and to spread the simple words of common sense on campuses nationwide.”

I’M A YOUNG DEMOCRAT AND I’VE GOT TO ADMIT MY PARTY IS LOSING 2025 WHILE LOOKING AT 2028

Trump also issued a strong warning about the dangers of political rhetoric that fuels violence:

“It’s long past time for all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree day after day, year after year, in the most hateful and despicable way possible.”

Trump added that for years, those on the radical left have compared “wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals.”

In closing, Trump vowed that Kirk’s mission would endure.

“An assassin tried to silence him with a bullet, but he failed, because together, we will ensure that his voice, his message and his legacy will live on for countless generations to come.

“Today, because of this heinous act, Charlie’s voice has become bigger and grander than ever before — and it’s not even close.” the president said.

Utah authorities update manhunt after fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk

Authorities in Utah provided an update on a manhunt for the gunman who fatally shot Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, as state and federal agencies co-lead the investigation into what officials believe was a targeted attack.

The Utah Department of Public Safety said in a press release that Kirk was speaking at the event at about 12:20 p.m. local time when he was shot.

“We initially took in George Zinn as a suspect. He was later released and charged with obstruction by UVU police,” the department said. “A second suspect, Zachariah Qureshi, was taken into custody and released after interrogation with law enforcement.  There are no current ties to the shooting with either of these individuals. There is an ongoing investigation and manhunt for the shooter.”

Investigators believe the attack was targeted and the shooter is believed to have fired a round from the roof of a building.

The event took place in a student courtyard, which was secured with the help of six Utah Valley University officers.

DPS said the security measures from the university were in addition to Kirk’s security detail.

DPS also said about 3,000 people attended the event.

“This is a tragic moment for Utah and our country,” DPS said. “As we all heal, we encourage those who need help to call 988, our state’s mental health crisis line.”

Co-leading the investigation with the Utah Department of Public Safety are the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as well as the Utah County Attorney’s Office, Utah County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments.

The FBI asks anyone with information about the shooting to reach out using a tip line, which can be found here.

MSNBC fires analyst Matthew Dowd for ‘unacceptable’ comments about Charlie Kirk

MSNBC has fired political analyst Matthew Dowd for suggesting “hateful” rhetoric from Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk led to his own assassination, two sources familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital.

The network previously denounced Dowd’s comments on social media.

“During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable,” MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler said in a statement. “We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”

A spokesperson for MSNBC declined to comment. Dowd joined MSNBC in 2022 after a long stint at ABC News.

After Kirk was shot Wednesday afternoon, Dowd suggested it was caused by a chain reaction from his “hateful words” against various groups. Kirk, a leading conservative activist and top ally of President Donald Trump, later died at the age of 31.

Before the news that Kirk had died, Dowd told MSNBC host Katy Tur, “We don’t know any of the full details of this yet. We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration.”

Dowd said Kirk has been “one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions.”

“I think that’s the environment we’re in, that the people just — you can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have, and then saying these awful words, and not expect awful actions to take place. And that’s the unfortunate environment we’re in,” he added.

Dowd tried to backtrack on the liberal social media platform Bluesky.

“On an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in. I apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack. Let us all come together and condemn violence of any kind,” Dowd wrote.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom decries murder of Charlie Kirk as ‘sick and reprehensible’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, condemned the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk as “sick and reprehensible.”

“We should all feel a deep sense of grief and outrage at the terrible violence that took place in Utah today. Charlie Kirk’s murder is sick and reprehensible, and our thoughts are with his family, children, and loved ones,” Newsom declared in a statement.

“I knew Charlie, and I admired his passion and commitment to debate. His senseless murder is a reminder of how important it is for all of us, across the political spectrum, to foster genuine discourse on issues that deeply affect us all without resorting to political violence,” Newsom continued.

“The best way to honor Charlie’s memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence,” the governor added. “Honest disagreement makes us stronger; violence only drives us further apart and corrodes the values at the heart of this nation.”

Kirk spoke with Newsom as the first guest on the governor’s “This is Gavin Newsom” podcast earlier this year.

“Unsurprisingly, Newsom is charming and friendly in-person,” Kirk wrote in an opinion piece
after appearing on the podcast. “You don’t become governor of 40 million people without having some charisma. But there’s clearly a layer beneath the charm. I saw that Newsom wants to be president more than any living person (and possibly every dead person, too). He is an ambitious man, and his new podcast is clearly a product of that ambition.”

JD Vance pens heartfelt tribute to Charlie Kirk after assassination

Vice President JD Vance shared a deeply personal remembrance of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University.

In a lengthy post on X, Vance honored his late friend as a man of “courage,” “faith” and profound loyalty.

“Charlie was fascinated by ideas and always willing to learn and change his mind,” wrote the vice president. “Like me, he was skeptical of Donald Trump in 2016. Like me, he came to see President Trump as the only figure capable of moving American politics away from the globalism that had dominated for our entire lives.”

“Charlie was one of the first people I called when I thought about running for senate in early 2021. We talked through everything, from the strategy to the fundraising to the grassroots of the movement he knew so well. He introduced me to some of the people who would run my campaign and also to Donald Trump Jr.”

Kirk, a longtime advocate for young people in the conservative movement, was described by Vance as pivotal to President Trump’s decision-making process in his selection as running mate in 2024.

“When I became the VP nominee—something Charlie advocated for both in public and private—Charlie was there for me… Charlie was constantly calling and texting, checking on our family and offering guidance and prayers,” Vance added.

Rep. Eric Burlison: ‘Charlie Kirk should lie in rest in the Capitol Rotunda’

In the wake of the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Republican Rep. Eric Burlison of Missouri asserted that “Charlie Kirk should lie in rest in the Capitol Rotunda.”

“America has done this before for private citizens like Rev. Billy Graham,” the congressman added in his post on X.

Graham lay in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda following his death in 2018.

The congressman continued, “@realDonaldTrump can make it happen. And as I reflect on his impact I have to come to the conclusion that no one has had a greater impact on the political climate of the United States for the last decade than Charlie Kirk,” Burlison wrote.

A document from the Architect of the Capitol states, “The Rotunda of the United States Capitol, completed in 1824, has historically been considered the most suitable place for the nation to pay final tribute to its most eminent citizens by having their remains lie in state (in the case of government officials and military officers) or in honor (in the case of private citizens). These occasions are either authorized by a congressional resolution or approved by the congressional leadership, when permission is granted by survivors.”

“Thank you!!! I agree completely!” responded Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo.

Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University while speaking at an event on campus on Wednesday.

“The FBI is working alongside our local and state law enforcement partners in Utah to fully investigate and seek justice in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University,” the agency said late Wednesday. “Anyone with information, photos, and video from the incident can help the FBI identity more answers by sharing the files.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson warns ‘turn the volume down’ after Kirk killing

House Speaker Mike Johnson warned that America’s “toxic” politics are fueling violence in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death.

“We have to call out political violence. I think there is a recognition. Some are saying it openly, some more quietly that the vitriol, the level that is there. Now, the hatred that has been fomented, you know, there’s a time that we’ve got to turn the volume down,” Johnson said speaking to CNN.

He talked about Congress’ strong security protocols and the fact that members are increasingly nervous about being exposed in public, especially after after the campus shooting in Utah that left Kirk dead.

“What we have to recognize once more is that we are all fellow Americans,” Johnson said. “We should see one another as colleagues and fellow countrymen, not as enemies. That’s not what Charlie Kirk represented. He loved the debate because he genuinely loved the people.”

Johnson went on to confirm that as a result of the attack, lawmakers are requesting heightened security, calling it part of the “new realities” facing public figures.

“We have to take serious measures for serious times,” he added.

“There are deranged people in society, and if they are encouraged along this way, they will do dangerous things,” he warned.

Student petition had criticized UVU for hosting Charlie Kirk, citing ‘divisive rhetoric’

Charlie Kirk’s visit to Utah Valley University on his “American Comeback” tour sparked fierce backlash online.

A Change.org petition, “Prevent Charlie Kirk from speaking at Utah Valley University,” racked up nearly 1,000 signatures ahead of the event.

The petition took aim at UVU’s own branding. “Utah Valley University’s tagline is ‘a place for you,’” it declared. “How then, can the university claim to represent inclusion and diversity by allowing an influencer like Charlie Kirk to have a platform?”

Supporters accused Kirk of undermining the campus environment. “As students at Utah Valley University, we have come to cherish an environment that strives for inclusivity and diversity. Yet, the planned speaking engagement of Charlie Kirk threatens this ideal,” the petition said.

Critics argued that hosting Kirk sent the wrong message: “Giving a platform to someone whose views are in direct opposition to these principles undermines UVU’s commitment to being ‘a place for you.’”

The petition has 943 signatures and has since been closed.

Reverend Graham remembers Charlie Kirk as a ‘courageous communicator of truth’

Rev. Franklin Graham, one of the nation’s most prominent Christian voices, told Fox News Digital that “America is mourning the loss of Charlie Kirk.”

“Our hearts break for his wife and family. He loved this country, loved God, and loved his family. He was a gifted and courageous communicator of truth. Even more importantly, Charlie Kirk was a passionate follower of the Lord Jesus Christ,” said Graham.

Charlie Kirk leaves behind his wife, Erika, a 3-year-old daughter, and a 1-year-old son.“

He wasn’t afraid to talk to anyone about the issues our society is facing today—and he wasn’t ashamed to talk about his personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. He said in an interview that his salvation was ‘a gift that grows sweeter with time,’” said Graham.

The president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association shared that he is appreciative of the work Charlie did to encourage, engage, and inform young college students across the nation.

“His voice will be greatly missed, but I pray that God will raise up an army of young men and women like him who will stand up for the same important issues,” he added.

Graham says Kirk lived boldly for Jesus Christ, who said, “’I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.’”

Senator Warren on gun violence: ‘Congress could change that and should change that’

Daily Caller shared video Wednesday of Sen. Elizabeth Warren
speaking outside the Capitol after the shooting of Charlie Kirk, zeroing in on gun violence.

“What Congress can do is gun safety and every time there’s a killing the Republicans say this is not the time to [talk] about gun safety, and yet we have to, as a nation, we have more gun deaths than most other nations,” Warren said.

“If the rest of the country would just follow the rules we follow in Massachusetts, we could reduce fatalities all over this country.”

Warren also pushed back on claims that legislation cannot solve the problem: “You can change whether or not they have a lethal weapon in their hands and the likelihood that they will be able to kill another person or to kill themselves goes up if they have a lethal weapon… Congress could change that and should change that.”

She closed with a warning: “If you’re alive and breathing in the United States right now, you understand that the risks have simply escalated. And the United States Congress could act and so far simply refuses.”

The first lady’s comments come shortly after President Trump released an Oval Office message on the assassination.

RFK Jr says ‘once again’ bullet silenced ‘truth teller’ following Charlie Kirk assassination

Health and Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. condemned the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, 31, on Wednesday, saying “once again, a bullet has silenced the most eloquent truth teller of an era.”

The killings were met with national and global shock, as millions mourned the loss of two leaders who symbolized democracy, youth and hope—while their deaths deepened political divisions.

Trump mourns Charlie Kirk as ‘martyr for truth and freedom,’ blames left, media for fueling violence

President Donald Trump mourned Charlie Kirk as a patriot and “martyr for truth and freedom,” condemning his assassination as a dark moment for America and blaming left-wing rhetoric and the media for fueling the political violence behind his killing.

Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University when the sound of a single shot rang across a large crowd, striking the Turning Point USA founder.

While speaking from the Oval Office on Wednesday night in a video posted to Truth Social, Trump said he was filled with grief and anger over the “heinous assassination” of Kirk.

CHARLIE KIRK, TURNING POINT USA FOUNDER, DEAD AT 31 AFTER UTAH CAMPUS SHOOTING

“Charlie inspired millions, and tonight, all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror. Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loved so much, the United States of America,” Trump said. “He fought for liberty, democracy, justice, and the American people. He’s a martyr for truth and freedom. And there’s never been anyone who was so respected by youth.”

The president also called Kirk a man of deep faith, adding that he takes comfort knowing that Kirk is at peace with God in Heaven.

“This is a dark moment for America. Charlie Kirk traveled the nation, joyfully engaging with everyone interested in good-faith debate. His mission was to bring young people into the political process, which he did better than anybody. To share his love of country and to spread the simple words of common sense,” Trump said.

“It’s a long past time for all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree day after day, year after year, in the most hateful and despicable way possible,” he continued. “For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.

“My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law enforcement officials, and everyone else who brings order to our country,” Trump added. “From the attack on my life in Butler, Pennsylvania last year, which killed a husband and father, to the attacks on ice agents; to the vicious murder of a healthcare executive in the streets of New York, to the shooting of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and three others. Radical left political violence has hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives.”

DAVID MARCUS: Progressive madness killed Charlie Kirk, a once-in-a-generation leader

A generational leader in the conservative movement was lost on Wednesday, as Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated during a live event at a Utah university, the latest in a rash of political violence tearing America apart.

For millions of Americans, especially the young, Kirk was an inspiration whose message of patriotism and self-reliance shone like a bright light in our cynical age of national self-hatred. But for millions of others, this made him a very dangerous threat.

When Kirk founded TPUSA, back in 2012, it wasn’t supposed to be possible that a conservative could walk onto college campuses, those most high bastions of far leftism, and not just command a crowd, but create a movement.

CHARLIE KIRK, TURNING POINT USA FOUNDER, DEAD AT 31 AFTER UTAH CAMPUS SHOOTING

At that time, being a young conservative was almost an oxymoron. Yet, here was a walking, talking Alex P. Keaton with a rapier wit and a finger on the pulse of how so many college-age Americans really felt, how frustrated they really were. He was a happy warrior, who engaged those with whom he disagreed in good faith and decency.

Kirk, the co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, was a close confidant of Vance’s both personally and politically. Their friendship stretched from early skepticism about Donald Trump in 2016 to the heights of the 2024 campaign trail.

Vance’s candid social media reflection gave a rare glimpse into Kirk’s influence not only on the conservative movement but also on the very formation of the Trump-Vance team.

VIGILS HELD ACROSS US AFTER ASSASSINATION OF CHARLIE KIRK: ‘WE MUST HEAL’

He also highlighted the father-of-two’s strong faith in Christ, saying, “Charlie genuinely believed in and loved Jesus Christ. He had a profound faith. We used to argue about Catholicism and Protestantism and who was right about minor doctrinal questions. Because he loved God, he wanted to understand him.”

His “true” friendship and loyalty were valued by Vance, with the vice president recalling Kirk as “a true friend. The kind of guy you could say something to and know it would always stay with him.”

Vance also credited Kirk with helping power the Trump movement in 2024, noting that “so much of the success we’ve had in this administration traces directly to Charlie’s ability to organize and convene.”

After reports came out Wednesday afternoon, the vice president said he spoke with President Trump about Kirk candidly.

“I was talking to President Trump in the Oval Office today, and he said, ‘I know he was a very good friend of yours.’ I nodded silently, and President Trump observed that Charlie really loved his family,” said Vance. “The president was right.”

“I was in a meeting in the West Wing when those group chats started lighting up with people telling Charlie they were praying for him. And that’s how I learned the news that my friend had been shot,” recalled Vance.

“God didn’t answer those prayers, and that’s OK. He had other plans. And now that Charlie is in heaven, I’ll ask him to talk to big man directly on behalf of his family, his friends, and the country he loved so dearly.”

“You ran a good race, my friend. We’ve got it from here,” Vance concluded.

In a resurfaced video, Kirk once said he wanted to be remembered “for courage, for my faith.” For those now mourning, that legacy is exactly how he will be remembered.

MSNBC APOLOGIZES FOR ANALYST’S ‘UNACCEPTABLE’ COMMENTS AFTER CHARLIE KIRK SHOOTING

Dowd’s comments were widely condemned in the wake of the tragic shooting, with numerous figures calling for his termination.

Dowd, a Democrat who was formerly a Republican strategist and an independent, is one of the most rabidly anti-GOP voices on cable news. He made a failed bid for the Democratic nomination for Texas lieutenant governor in 2021.

Many called for Dowd’s firing before MSNBC had shown him the door.

“Dowd should be fired immediately; I expect him to be terminated within 24 hours. You can’t say Charlie deserved to die. You just can’t say that, and I hope he loses his job,” Fox News’ Jesse Watters said on “The Five.”

White House staffers were enraged by Dowd’s comments.

“They are scumbags. They need to look inward and realize they are hurting this nation with their awful rhetoric,” a senior Trump administration official told Fox News Digital in reaction to the MSNBC segment.

Kirk, the founder of one of the most influential political organizations in the country, was shot while holding an event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He later died of his wound, leaving the country reeling from another act of horrific political violence.

A moment of silence for Charlie Kirk on the House floor Wednesday devolved into a shouting match after a Republican representative demanded a prayer be said out loud for the conservative who was shot earlier in the day.

As lawmakers stood silently in a mostly filled House of Representatives chamber during a moment of silence for the conservative who was shot and killed at Utah Valley University during an on-campus event Wednesday, Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert demanded a spoken prayer.

“Please rise for a moment of prayer for Charlie Kirk and his family,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said. Lawmakers obliged for several seconds, before returning to regular order. However, once that started to happen, Boebert spoke up.

“Silent prayers get silent results,” Boebert said. She could also be heard asking for a prayer to be said “out loud.”

The Colorado Republican’s comments resulted in shouts from Democrats. Some reportedly began shouting back about how Republicans had ignored a school shooting that happened Wednesday as well, according to the New York Times.

Meanwhile, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., stood up and began shouting back. “You all caused this,” she said.

CHARLIE KIRK KILLED WHILE LAUNCHING TURNING POINT USA CAMPUS TOUR

Speaker Johnson attempted to quell the crowd multiple times, banging his gavel and asking for order. Eventually, he said: “We will join for prayer right after this, OK?”

Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking to a sizable crowd at Utah Valley University, located in Orem, Utah, from underneath a tent in the middle of the school’s outdoor quad. Kirk was transported to a local hospital, but was later pronounced dead. He was at the university for an event as part of Turning Point USA’s “American Comeback Tour” that launched this spring.

Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA, established in 2012. The political nonprofit built its name by engaging youth people on university campuses about politics. Kirk frequently went around the country to campuses to speak at events.

“In response to the reprehensible and senseless murder of Charlie Kirk, we are gathering tonight at Westlake Park in Seattle at 7:30PM for a time of prayer, worship, and solitary as we take a stand against the senseless political and religious violence in America,” Russell Johnson, lead pastor at The Pursuit in Washington state, wrote on X announcing his church’s vigil.

“I invite Montanans to join us in prayer and spirit praying for Charlie, his family and our divided nation. We must heal,” he wrote on X.

In Arizona, the group Catholics for Catholics said a rosary vigil would be held Wednesday night.

“Charlie Kirk’s local Catholic community gathers to pray the Rosary for the Eternal Rest of his soul,” the group wrote on Instagram.

“Charlie was our friend,” the post added. “His family are our neighbors. He attended our Church. We loved him and America loves him too. It’s time now for us to pray and ask for Our Lady to usher his soul into heaven.”

There was a candlelight vigil in Idaho to honor Kirk’s life.

“It was a moving moment of solidarity that offered the comfort and support many of us need right now. Please continue to keep Charlie’s family in your prayers,” the Idaho Freedom Foundation wrote on X.

The New York Yankees held a moment of silence ahead of Wednesday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers to honor Kirk.

“Before tonight’s game we held a moment of silence in memoriam of Charlie Kirk. Kirk founded the youth activist group ‘Turning Point USA’ and had become a fixture on college campuses,” the team said on X.

Kevin Smith, founder of the conservative media company The Loud Majority, also announced a vigil scheduled for Saturday in New York.

President Donald Trump, officials in his administration, other U.S. politicians on both sides of the aisle, foreign leaders and sports figures were among those who came out in mourning Kirk and condemning acts of political violence.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Lane Frantzve, and two young children.

Charlie Kirk was proud champion of Christianity: ‘I’m nothing without Jesus’

Charlie Kirk was an unapologetic defender of conservative values and the Christian faith before his life was tragically cut short Wednesday at the age of 31.

The founder of Turning Point USA and host of “The Charlie Kirk Show” became a prominent figure in the media and on college campuses across the nation. He was fatally shot Wednesday at an event launching his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

At his college events, he welcomed dialogue and debate over cultural and political issues, including Christianity.

Just days before his death, Kirk posted on X, “Jesus defeated death so you can live.”

“I mean, I’m nothing without Jesus,” he told Russell Brand last year. “I’m a sinner. I fall incredibly short of the glory of God. We all do. I gave my life to the Lord in fifth grade, and it’s the most important decision I’ve ever made and everything I do incorporates Jesus Christ.”

On college campuses, he often took questions from skeptics about the evidence for the Bible and why he believed Christianity was true while sharing its impact on his life.

At a campus event in April, Kirk defended Christianity as a positive force in America.

“The mechanisms of a religious society [are] good for everybody. When somebody walks around and thinks that you were created and that you’re not God, you tend to have better citizens,” he said.

During another debate with an atheist earlier this year, he pointed to the hope Christianity offers of an afterlife.

“I would argue you have a lot more faith than I do,” he said. “You have a lot more blind faith to believe that everything around you, love, joy, peace, sadness, is all just a construct of neurons firing in your brain…We as Christians have hope that we are going to see our loved ones again and that we will be in heaven and that we will be in perfect peace and that this is not it. In fact, there’s something even better awaiting us.”

“Jesus is honestly the most important thing,” Kirk told Fox News last month while discussing NFL quarterback Lamar Jackson resharing his faith-based post.

Kirk said at the time that he believed the nation was in the midst of a spiritual revival.

“We are seeing Gen Z go back to church in record numbers. We are seeing a Christian revival that should give everyone in this audience hope. It’s the greatest news happening in America right now,” he said.

On Wednesday, Kirk was fatally shot while speaking in front of thousands of students on the Utah Valley University campus. He is survived by his wife Erika and two young children.

President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death in a post on Truth Social Wednesday afternoon.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us,” Trump wrote. “Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

In a speech to the nation on Wednesday, Trump saluted Kirk’s “deep faith.”

“We take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace with God in heaven,” Trump said of his longtime ally.
