General Situation

A trough of low pressure brought thundery showers to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary persistently, and an easterly airstream also affected the coast of eastern Guangdong gradually today. Locally, it was cloudy with occasional showers and a few thunderstorms. Showers were heavy at times. More than 30 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over Sai Kung, Sha Tin and Tai Po District in the afternoon, and rainfall even exceeded 70 millimetres over Tsuen Wan District. A southerly airstream is expected to bring hot weather and a few showers to the coast of Guangdong in the next couple of days. Another trough of low pressure will edge closer to the coastal areas of southern China towards the weekend, and bring showers and thunderstorms to the region during the weekend.

Forecast Description

Mainly cloudy with a few showers. Showers will be heavier with thunderstorms in some areas in the morning. Hot with sunny intervals during the day. Temperatures will range between 25 and 30 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground at first.
The weather will become unsettled with showers later on Friday to Saturday gradually. Showers will ease off gradually and temperatures will drop slightly in the following couple of days.

The Strong Monsoon Signal is now in force. Strong winds with mean speed exceeding 40 kilometres per hour are expected from the east. Gusts will occasionally reach gale force.
1. If you are not well sheltered from the east, you are advised to take precautions against strong gusty winds. Flower pots and other objects likely to be blown away should be taken indoors.
2. Those planning for water sports activities and operations at sea should take special care against high winds and rough sea conditions. Conditions are particularly rough over the offshore waters.
