Police deployed to tackle ‘youths causing serious disorder’ in Salford

Police are dealing with “serious disorder” reportedly involving dozens of youths in Salford.

Greater Manchester Police said it had put a dispersal order in place on Lower Broughton Road following disorder on Wednesday afternoon.

It said one person had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and one police vehicle had been damaged

The force added in a statement: “Behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated and we will respond accordingly.”

A witness told Manchester Evening News that around 50-60 teenagers and young people are “hanging round” at the scene. They said several bricks and stones are strewn across the road and described the scene as “pretty intense”.

They added: “There is a Fiat 500 which has been completely smashed in. It’s windows have been stoved in.

“The police are here, but they’re circling around at the moment. At a rough guess I’d say there are about 50-60 people hanging about, but a lot of residents are also coming out.”

Videos on social media show a car performing a handbrake turn in the street while seemingly being pursued by another car, while groups of youths wearing hoods and masks can also be seen in the road.

Riot police have been seen at the scene, with one witness reporting that there are “cops on every corner”.

Curfew lifted after ‘mass arrests’ in LA as Trump mulls sending troops to other cities

The downtown curfew enacted by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in response to Donald Trump’s “chaotic escalation” of the response to immigration protests has been lifted.

Authorities enforced the curfew between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday, with Bass warning that anyone who failed to comply would be detained. The LAPD said that it made “mass arrests” after the restriction was imposed.

Approximately 700 U.S. Marines are scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles today from a staging point in Seal Beach, 30 miles south, less than 48 hours after Trump directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to mobilize the battalion. The administration is now considering deploying troops to other cities to quell further protests, an official told the New York Times.

Gavin Newsom, who claims the presence of troops exacerbates tensions, asked a judge for an emergency injunction to halt the troop deployment, arguing it is “unlawful,” as well as “excessive and unnecessary.” A hearing is set for Thursday.

In a televised address on Tuesday, Newsom lambasted Trump’s “brazen abuse of power.” Earlier in the day, Trump called the city “a trash heap” and promised to “liberate” it.

Where things stand today…

  • A battalion of 700 U.S. Marines ordered by President Trump is expected to arrive in Los Angeles from a staging point at Seal Beach amid ongoing unrest, marking the sixth day of protests against immigration policies. Up to 4,000 National Guard troops have also been deployed.
  • Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass lifted the downtown overnight curfew, which was implemented in response to what she called President Trump’s “chaotic escalation” of the ICE raids protest response; the LAPD reported “mass arrests” after the curfew was imposed.
  • California Governor Gavin Newsom is seeking an emergency injunction to halt the troop deployment, denouncing it as “unlawful,” “excessive,” and exacerbating tensions in the city.
  • Trump defended his decision to deploy troops, claiming Los Angeles would be “burning to the ground” without his intervention; however, some residents and workers in the Little Tokyo neighborhood downtown argue the military presence is inflaming the protests.
  • Protests that originated in Los Angeles have spread to at least 35 cities across the U.S., prompting hundreds of arrests and varying responses from local authorities, with some cities experiencing peaceful demonstrations and others facing clashes with police.

Downtown LA ‘bustling’ after end of curfew; Marines due on streets ‘soon’

The Associated Press reports that the streets of downtown Los Angeles began bustling with residents walking dogs and commuters clutching coffee cups after the overnight curfew was lifted at 6 a.m. today.

Officials said at least two dozen people were arrested for violating the curfew, but overall, there were fewer clashes between police and demonstrators than on previous nights.

There were still no signs of Marines expected to be deployed to Los Angeles on Wednesday, joining the National Guard troops that are protecting federal buildings and ICE agents making arrests.

Troops deployed to Los Angeles are allowed to temporarily detain individuals until law enforcement agents arrive to arrest them, Major General Scott Sherman, who is leading the deployment of the 4,700 troops, said this morning.

The troops on the ground did not have the authority to arrest individuals.

Sherman said that the 700 Marines are receiving training on how to handle civil disturbances, and they would not have live ammunition in their rifles during the deployment.

He added that the Marines would not be deployed to the streets of Los Angeles on Wednesday, but they would be there “soon.”

Earlier, CNN reported that the Marines were still being trained 30 miles south of the city in Seal Beach, California.

Hegseth claims troop deployment in LA ‘lawful and constitutional’

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that the deployment of thousands of troops to Los Angeles was about maintaining law and order as federal agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency carry out their duties.

“The mission in Los Angeles… it is about maintaining law and order on behalf of law enforcement agents, who deserve to do their job without being attacked by mobs of people,” Hegseth told lawmakers during a Senate hearing.

Hegseth added that the deployment of the 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines was lawful and constitutional.

Rhode Island Democratic Senator Jack Reed pushed back, saying that law and order is a civil function under the Constitution and is not the purview of the U.S. military.

“This is not only, I think, illegal, but also a diminution of the readiness and focus of the military,” the senator said

Sheinbaum: 61 Mexican nationals detained; will raise Kristi Noem comments with U.S.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says 61 Mexican nationals have been detained in Los Angeles amid the ICE raids.

Sheinbaum, speaking at her daily morning press briefing, also said she would discuss the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary’s accusation that she had incited violence with Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau on Wednesday, as he visits Mexico.

She rejected Noem’s comments as “completely false” on Tuesday, publishing a video of her in her morning press briefing calling for Mexicans to act in peace in the Los Angeles protests.

Sheinbaum added more details Wednesday, claiming her opponents had “completely taken out of context” her previous comments suggesting that Mexicans could protest a tax on remittances proposed by Trump.

“We have never called for a violent demonstration,” she said. “We are against all violent acts. We’ve always supported peaceful protests.”

Noem made the shocking allegation in the Oval Office on Tuesday.

“Claudia Sheinbaum came out and encouraged more protests in LA, and I condemn her for that,” she said. “She should not be encouraging violent protests that are going on.”

Sheinbaum actually said: “We do not agree with violent actions as a form of protest.”

“Burning police cars appears to be more an act of provocation than of resistance,” she continued. “We condemn violence, no matter where it comes from.”

Here’s her initial reaction to Noem’s accusation:

As LAPD made arrests, National Guard troops stood watch behind plastic shields

Los Angeles Police Department officers began making arrests shortly after last night’s downtown curfew went into effect, while deploying officers on horseback and using crowd control projectiles to break up a group of hundreds of demonstrators.

Members of the National Guard, deployed to protect federal buildings by the Trump administration, stood watch behind plastic shields, but did not appear to participate in the arrests Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press.

Hours later, many of the protesters had dispersed, although sporadic confrontations continued, which were much smaller than those of previous nights.

The demonstrations have been mostly concentrated downtown, and the curfew covers a 1-square-mile (2.5-square-kilometer) section that includes an area where protests have occurred since Friday in the sprawling city of 4 million, which spans more than 500 square miles.

Marines still undergoing training, report says

CNN reports that the 700 Marines mobilized to head to the Los Angeles area on Monday night are still undergoing training as of Wednesday morning, and it is not yet clear when they will be deployed onto the streets to help with protests.

The network cites a US Northern Command spokesperson, who said that, as of this morning, the Marines “have NOT completed their [Standing Rules for the Use of Force] and nonlethal weapons training, and I do not have an estimate of when they will be employed by Task Force 51.”

Trump continues to fundraise off LA unrest

President Donald Trump’s political operation continues to fundraise off the unrest in Los Angeles triggered by his administration’s immigration policies.

A new fundraising email bears the subject line: “I said send in the troops!”

It reads:

American flags BURNED. Cars TORCHED. Property VANDALIZED. Rioters were HURLING CINDER BLOCKS at our Cops and Troops.

This is happening RIGHT NOW in California.

What do their failed leaders have to say? Take a look for yourself:

Gavin Newscum – “Protests are managed.”

Elizabeth Warren – “Peaceful protests.”

Kamala Harris – “Overwhelmingly peaceful.”

LIES. ALL OF IT.

The email continues:

If I didn’t “SEND IN THE TROOPS” to Los Angeles, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now due to these incompetent leaders.

And now, Gavin Newscum wants to SUE ME and OUR GREAT TROOPS for protecting America.

THIS IS SICK!

The troops sent in by the administration are guarding two federal buildings in the sprawling city, according to Mayor Karen Bass.

The email ends with a warning to Trump supporters as protests spread to other cities:

The riots are spreading to cities across our Great Nation — but as long as we stand together, we will keep America safe, arrest criminals, and deport illegals!

ICYMI: Trump calls LA a ‘trash heap’ of ‘chaos and disorder’

President Donald Trump on Tuesday turned what was meant as a celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, for soldiers at one of the nation’s most storied military bases, into a bellicose campaign-style rally as he attacked Democratic elected officials and denigrated the country’s second-largest city as a cesspool made rotten by “uncontrolled migration.”

Andrew Feinberg reports.

The partisan speech came hours after he threatened force against any protesters who attempt to disrupt the military parade he has ordered for his birthday Saturday

Several of those interviewed by Reuters in Little Tokyo requested anonymity, citing concerns about potential reprisals from the federal government. Many were immigrants themselves or had family members who were not born in the U.S., and feared making themselves or their loved ones targets of ICE.

One of those was Anthony, who works at a tea shop in the neighborhood.

“There is no question that the president sending in thousands of National Guard and 700 Marines has done nothing but make the protesters more aggressive,” he said. “It’s instigating the protesters and making things worse.”

Samantha Lopez, a descendant of Filipino immigrants who works at a Korean ice cream parlor in Little Tokyo, said she felt empathy for the demonstrators but rejected any acts of vandalism or violence they carried out. Still, she blamed the use of military personnel for creating the unrest.

“It’s just poor handling of protests that stay peaceful until they’re confronted by officers,” Lopez said. “It’s bad for business, and it’s bad for this neighborhood.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom has said the use of military personnel to combat the protests had “inflamed a combustible situation” and warned that “democracy is under assault.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has said that Trump’s use of troops was a deliberate effort to create “chaos.” She implemented the curfew in downtown Los Angeles last night to curb the violence, which led to mass arrests.

Bass noted on Tuesday that the National Guard troops were guarding two federal buildings and had only arrived on Sunday, despite the president’s claim they had helped restore peace on Saturday.

The Trump administration claims that the actions it has taken were necessary in the face of local and state leaders’ inability to bring the situation under control.

On Wednesday morning, President Trump yet again claimed that if it weren’t for him, Los Angeles would be “burning to the ground right now.”

“The great people of Los Angeles are very lucky that I made the decision to go in and help!!!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Many Angelenos don’t seem to agree.

New Reform chairman David Bull calls for return of death penalty

The new chairman of Reform UK has said there is a “very strong case” for the death penalty – 24 hours after Nigel Farage said he would not support its reintroduction.

Dr David Bull, a former medical doctor, has said he would support the return of capital punishment for criminals such as Axel Rudakabana, who murdered three girls in a mass stabbing at a children’s dance class in Southport.

“For those people, I think there is a very strong case that I would support the death penalty,” Dr Bull, who succeeded Zia Yusuf as Reform’s chairman on Tuesday, told Times Radio.

He also added to a row in Reform’s ranks over burqas, calling for the religious covering to be banned, saying “I don’t like seeing people in them”.

He added: “I don’t like seeing people in burqas. I feel particularly in East London, where I live, it certainly has divided the community. We’ve got a whole swathes of people not even speaking English, which I just think is not acceptable.”

Dr Bull was unveiled as Reform’s chairman at a press conference at which Mr Farage sought to put the chaotic saga of Mr Yusuf’s sudden and unexpected departure – and swift return just days later – behind him.

Asked for his thoughts on the death penalty, Mr Farage has said it is an “issue of conscience”, likening it to the debate over assisted dying.

He said: “Personally, given there have been 500 quite serious miscarriages of justice in this country since the 1970s, I don’t think I could ever support it. But I understand why others take a different view.

“I think it is quite interesting that the younger generation seem to increasingly support the death penalty… it will be back in the next decade as an issue of major national debate.” The death penalty was fully abolished in the UK in 1998.

Asked about his view on the Reform row about banning burqas, he said he had wider concerns about face coverings.

He added: “Do I think in cultural terms the burqa fits in with the British way of life? Not really, no.”

Former television presenter Dr Bull was announced as the party’s chairman at a press conference in Westminster, as Mr Farage told reporters that his job would be to “give leadership” and “not to get involved with the admin”.

The appointment of Dr Bull, who previously presented Watchdog, Tomorrow’s World and Most Haunted Live! comes after businessman Mr Yusuf resigned from the position last week following an internal row over the party’s position on the burqa.

Mr Yusuf said he was “hugely excited” that former MEP Dr Bull was taking the role. “This party is no longer a start-up,” Mr Yusuf told reporters.

“I think it’s gone to a scale-up phase … the reality is what we need now in a chairman is someone who is an incredible communicator, someone who’s loved universally across the party … someone who’s going to I think do a better job than me at energising volunteers on the front line.”

“I wholeheartedly congratulate him and I know he’s going to do an incredible job for us,” he added.

Mr Farage said Dr Bull would come to the chairman’s role with “terrific verve, energy, enthusiasm”.

He described Dr Bull as a “terrific communicator” and that his “job is not to get involved with the admin, is not to get involved in the tech” but rather is to “give leadership to that volunteer army out there of people”.

Mr Farage also said it is “very good” that the new chairman has television experience, telling reporters that “message delivery and simplicity of message in politics is very important”.

Mr Yusuf returned to Reform over the weekend, just 48 hours after he quit, saying he had made an “error”.

His departure followed a row, in which he said the party’s newest MP, Sarah Pochin’s question to the prime minister about banning the burqa was “dumb”.

Rolling Stones ‘back in the studio working on new album’

The Rolling Stones are reportedly back in the studio and working on a new album, after rumours that they had scrapped plans for a summer 2025 tour.

The Independent understands that the storied rock band have been working in Metropolis Studios in west London, following the successful release of their last record, 2023’s Hackney Diamonds.

Their first album of original material in 18 years, Hackney Diamonds was produced by Grammy-winner Andrew Watt, whose other credits include works by Elton John, Pearl Jam, Ozzy Osbourne and Lady Gaga.

Hackney Diamonds shot to No 1 upon its release and received positive reviews from critics.

Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood rip through gritty glam and blues rock riffs like guitarists half of half their ages, and rather than mutter reflective wisdom gleaned from a rock’n’roll life mid-winddown – a la Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan – Jagger bawls and yowls about blurry nights, media intrusion and relationship ructions like an eternal A-list twentysomething,” Mark Beaumont wrote in his review for The Independent.

The Sun reports that the new album is being recorded by original members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, with current drummer Steve Jordan.

“Originally, the plan was for them to bring their huge US tour to the UK and Europe this summer, but promoters couldn’t get the dates to work,” a source claimed.

The Sun also reports that the Stones have teamed up with Watt again for the new songs.

The band are supposedly planning on announcing UK shows in the coming weeks, after earlier media reports suggested they had encountered issues over venue and travel options.

Sixty years since they first formed, the Stones remain one of the world’s most popular live acts, with their latest North America tour grossing almost a quarter of a billion dollars and selling 880,000 tickets.

However, they have not played in the UK since 2022, the year after the death of their longtime drummer, Charlie Watts.

Ballymena riots condemned as ‘racist thuggery’ as homes set on fire in second night of violence

Homes and cars have been set on fire during a second night of violence in Ballymena as police condemned the unrest as “racist thuggery”.

Dramatic scenes unfolded in the Northern Ireland town as rioters hurled petrol bombs, fireworks and glass bottles at police officers. Seventeen officers were injured with some requiring hospital treatment, the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) said.

Riot police wearing armour and carrying shields were deployed to the County Antrim town as hundreds gathered in the area, with rioters smashing windows and damaging the doors of homes.

Two homes, which suffered significant smoke damage, remained sealed off on Tuesday. Damage was caused to a nearby property while a woman and two children were still inside, and the windows of several business units were smashed in the area.

The violence originally flared after a vigil in support of the family of a teenage girl who was the victim of an alleged sexual assault in the town over the weekend.

Two 14-year-old boys appeared in court on Monday, charged with attempted rape. The charges were read to the teenagers by a Romanian interpreter.

PSNI said it had made a third arrest in connection with their investigation into the serious sexual assault on Monday evening. The 28-year-old man was unconditionally released from police custody following questioning.

The scenes of violence were described as “racist thuggery” by a senior officer, while Northern Ireland’s first minister Michelle O’Neill called the two nights of violence “racist and sectarian”, adding that the rioting was “abhorrent and must stop immediately”.

During Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Keir Starmer denounced the events. “I utterly condemn the violence that we have seen overnight in Ballymena and in other parts of Northern Ireland,” he said.

Police fired less-than-lethal rounds at some of those gathered and also used a water cannon to disperse the crowd. Calm was restored to the town around 1am, but the force reported further disorder in Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus, with some incidents in north Belfast.

The peaceful vigil began on Monday around 7.30pm heading towards the Clonavon Terrace area of Ballymena. Police were present due to the large number of people who had gathered when a number of masked individuals broke away from the gathering and began to build barricades, stockpiling missiles and attacking properties nearby.

Members of the crowd turned on police and attacked officers with petrol bombs and masonry as the disorder continued in the nearby vicinity of Galgorm Street, Linenhall Street, as well as Larne Road Link near the Braid.

North Antrim MP Jim Allister said on Monday that he had spoken to the family of the alleged victim, who had said they did not want to see violent scenes.

“Sadly the narrative has been diverted, and it has been diverted by those who [who] wrongly and foolishly involved in violence and made the story something that it otherwise should be,” he added.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with riotous behaviour after being arrested during disorder in Ballymena on Monday night. The man, who is due to appear before Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on 3 July, has also been charged with disorderly behaviour, attempted criminal damage and resisting police.

PSNI assistant chief constable Ryan Henderson said other arrests are expected following the examination of video footage as the force are “actively working to identify those responsible for last night’s racially motivated disorder in Ballymena and bring them to justice”.

PC Henderson said the force had a significant operation in place over the coming days in case there was any repeat of the disturbances on Monday night in the town, calling for the attacks to be “loudly condemned by all right-thinking people”.

“Any attempt to justify or explain it as something else is misplaced,” he said at a press conference at Ballymena police station.

He added that members of the minority ethnic community “felt fear” and that the policing operation in Ballymena aimed to reassure the community.

“I would strongly urge anyone who was involved in yesterday’s disorder to reflect long and hard about their actions, they will have consequences,” he said.

PC Henderson said that police officers from England and Wales will be brought to Northern Ireland if needed to help the PSNI in the wake of the Ballymena disorder.

He said: “Should I need any additionality, I’m absolutely assured that my colleagues in policing in England and Wales, the National Police Operation Centre, stand fast and ready to support should we need that support.”

The senior officer said police did not have specific intelligence that there would be a repeat of the violent scenes, but said a significant policing operation would be in place.

Stormont ministers have made a joint appeal for calm following the violence, across the powersharing executive including Sinn Fein, DUP, Alliance Party and UUP.

The statement said: “As ministers representing every party and department in the Northern Ireland Executive, we strongly condemn the racially motivated violence witnessed in recent days and make an urgent appeal for calm across society. The alleged serious sexual assault reported on 7 June in Ballymena was appalling and our collective thoughts are with the victim and their loved ones at this deeply traumatic time.

“It is paramount that the justice process is now allowed to take its course so that this heinous crime can be robustly investigated. Those weaponising the situation in order to sow racial tensions do not care about seeing justice and have nothing to offer their communities but division and disorder.

“While all of our citizens have the right to engage in peaceful protest, there can never be any justification for the violence that has taken place in recent days, during which residents have been terrorised and numerous PSNI officers injured.”

The statement added: “We are urging everyone in our communities to play their part in that effort and reject the divisive agenda being pursued by a minority of destructive, bad faith actors.”

Downing Street said there could be no justification for the violence in Ballymena.

The prime minister’s official spokesperson said: “The disorder we saw in Ballymena is very concerning.

“Obviously, the reports of sexual assault in the area are extremely distressing, but there is no justification for attacks on police officers while they continue to protect local communities,” they said. “PSNI and the justice system must be allowed to carry out their jobs and our thoughts are with the victims of the assault as well as the police officers who were injured.”

Northern Ireland secretary Hilary Benn has said there is “no justification” for attacks on police officers or vandalism in Ballymena.

“The terrible scenes of civil disorder we have witnessed in Ballymena again this evening have no place in Northern Ireland,” he said in a social media post. “There is absolutely no justification for attacks on PSNI officers or for vandalism directed at people’s homes or property.”

Photos best proof yet that ‘richest wreck in history’ has been found

Images taken from the depths of the Caribbean are the clearest evidence yet that a 300-year-old shipwreck worth £15bn has been located, researchers say.

The “richest wreck in history” the Spanish galleon San Jose, was transporting treasure from Peru to Spain to finance the Spanish side of the War of the Spanish Succession when it was intercepted by the British Navy in 1708.

The treasure-laden ship, which was loaded with gold, silver and emeralds estimated to be worth as much as $20bn (£15bn), sank and was not seen again.

It wasn’t until 2015 that a wreck was identified by the Colombian navy, but it was not conclusively proven to be the San Jose.

But new sophisticated underwater imaging has analysed some of the cargo on the sunken ship 600m below the surface of the Colombian Caribbean Sea.

In the study, published in the journal Antiquity, researchers used a remotely-operated underwater vehicle to capture high-resolution images of coins scattered near the wreck’s stern.

Researchers then created digital models to allow them to analyse the wreck.

A 3D reconstruction of the coins onboard the ship suggest they are and-struck silver “cobs” or “macuquinas”, with heraldic symbols of Castile and León and a clear mint date of 1707. Researchers suggest these coins came from Peru.

Chinese porcelain from the Kangxi period (1662–1722) and inscriptions on the cannons dating to 1665 were also found on the ship, suggesting it sank in the early eighteenth century.

Daniela Vargas Ariza, lead researcher from Colombia’s Naval Cadet School and the National Institute of Anthropology and History explained the San Jose is the only ship that matches these characteristics.

Study authors said: “This find presents a rare opportunity to explore an underwater archaeological site and deepen our understanding of colonial maritime trade and routes.”

“It represents only the first step in a long-term project. The initial phase focuses on non-invasive surveys, with no plans for object recovery or excavation until the entire site is fully characterised,” they added.

However, both Spain and Colombia claim they own the San Jose and its cargo, while indigenous groups also argue their ancestors mined the treasure and therefore are owed reparations.

In addition, an American salvage company, Sea Search Armada, has also claimed a share because it located the wreck and informed the Colombian government, hoping they would be entitled to half.

Liverpool make Wirtz breakthrough as Man Utd eye swap deal

The transfer window has officially, briefly, shut after the first mini opening ahead of the summer’s Club World Cup. The window closed last night at 7pm BST but that won’t stop clubs negotiating deals over the coming days, ahead of its reopening on 16 June – Club World Cup teams can register players for the knockout stages from then onwards.

So far this summer there has been plenty of activity in the Premier League with Matheus Cunha, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jeremie Frimpong, Liam Delap, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki among the biggest names to switch clubs.

Arsenal want to get in on the action and hope to bring in Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Arteta has sanctioned talks with RB Leipzig over striker Benjamin Sesko in their ongoing pursuit for a No 9.

Chelsea have been rebuffed in their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, and have walked away from a potential deal for AC Milan and France No 1 Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup.

Manchester United have already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m, and are negotiating with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo with Viktor Gyokeres also on the list of wanted strikers.

Manchester City have captured Ait-Nouri from Wolves, while also agreeing a fee to sign AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and signing Lyon’s Cherki.

And Liverpool have finally made a breakthrough in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.

Grealish to move abroad?

Jack Grealish’s time as a Manchester City player looks to be coming to an end this summer.

There are rumours, substantial ones at that, that the winger will not be included in City’s squad for the Club World Cup. His game time has dropped as well this season and these are all signs he could be on the way out.

With Grealish keen to push for a place in England’s World Cup squad he wants regular time on the pitch and may need to leave the Premier League to get some.

The Sun report that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in bringing in the 29-year-old as a potential replacement for Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz seems sure to move to Liverpool once those negotiations are finalised and new Leverkusen boss, Erik ten Hag, is keen on Grealish.

According to the report, Man City would be asking just £40m for Grealish and Grealish is said to be open to moving on from City.

Man Utd dealt Gyokeres blow

Manchester United will not be able to purchase Viktor Gyokeres for £59m (€70m) after claims from Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas.

Previous rumours had seemingly revealed that Gyokeres had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the club that he would be allowed to leave this summer for a price lower than his £85m (€100m) release clause.

But, Varandas has squashed those rumours and with it probably Manchester United’s interest in signing the forward.

“I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60m plus €10m because I never promised that,” Varandas said.

“To this day Sporting has not had an offer for Gyokeres — neither today nor last season.”
