Israel said on Tuesday that it had killed Iran’s wartime chief of staff Maj. Gen. Ali Shadmani, the country’s most senior military leader. IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said in a statement that Shadmani was killed at the regime’s headquarters in Tehran.

“For the second time in 5 days, the IDF has eliminated Iran’s Wartime Chief of Staff, the regime’s top military commander,” the IDF wrote on X. “Ali Shadmani, Iran’s senior-most military official and Khamenei’s closest military advisor, was killed in an IAF strike in central Tehran, following precise intelligence.”

ISRAEL SAYS IT HAS AERIAL SUPERIORITY OVER TEHRAN, IRANIAN INTELLIGENCE LEADER KILLED

Shadmani led the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters — also referred to as Iran’s military emergency command — for approximately four days before he was killed, according to the Times of Israel. Shadmani was preceded by Maj. Gen. Gholam Ali Rashid, who was killed in Israel’s initial strikes on Iran on June 13.

In his role, Shadmani allegedly managed combat operations and approved Iran’s attack plans, the Times of Israel reported.

NBC News reported that Israel took out the commander “in the heart of Tehran,” seizing a “sudden opportunity.”

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced on his English-language X account that Shadmani would be taking Rashid’s place after the Iranian military leader was killed in Israel’s original attacks.

“In view of Lt. Gen. Gholamali Rashid’s martyrdom at the hands of the vile Zionist regime, and in light of Major General Ali Shadmani’s meritorious service and valuable experience, I confer the rank of Major Gen. & appoint him Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya (pbuh) Central HQ,” Khamenei wrote in a post on X.

Since the launch of Operation Rising Lion, Israel has taken out several key figures in Iran’s military and nuclear proliferation programs.

In a statement, Defrin vowed that Israel would “relentlessly pursue” its enemies “through advanced intelligence capabilities, exploiting emerging opportunities, air superiority, and complex operational planning.”

A group of House Democrats from New York are claiming President Donald Trump’s annual government funding proposal, if enacted, could leave big cities vulnerable to massive terror attacks.

“We are writing to express the gravest concerns about the existential threat that the Trump Administration’s proposed budget poses to the homeland security of New York City,” the Democrats wrote.

“Here is the bottom line: the Trump budget, if enacted, would leave America’s largest city woefully unprepared to prevent and respond to a second 9/11.”

The bold new accusation comes as left-wing lawmakers continue to criticize Republicans’ efforts at slashing federal spending. The national debt, meanwhile, is climbing toward $37 trillion.

TRUMP’S ‘BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’ CRACKS DOWN ON BIDEN’S STUDENT LOAN ‘SCHEME,’ TOP REPUBLICAN SAYS

The letter was signed by New York City Democratic Reps. Ritchie Torres, Yvette Clarke, Gregory Meeks, Dan Goldman and Jerry Nadler.

They argued that “Draconian cuts” to homeland security grants “would all but dismantle the FDNY’s capacity for emergency management and would reduce the NYPD’s post-9/11 counterterrorism apparatus to a shell of its former self.”

The letter is addressed to the top Republican and Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, which has already begun work on the next fiscal year’s federal budget in time for the Sept. 30 deadline.

The White House has released a “skinny” budget proposal for fiscal year (FY) 2026, which, if passed, would make good on Republicans’ promise to slash government spending that they say has gotten out of control.

The proposal would cut $163 billion in non-defense discretionary government spending – meaning the federal funding that Congress controls every year, rather than mandatory funding, which is largely comprised of government safety net programs that are amended through a separate process called budget reconciliation.

The nonprofit International Association of Fire Chiefs’ analysis of the budget said the State Homeland Security Grant program (SHSGP) would be cut from $468 million to $351 million, and the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) would be cut from $553.5 million to $415.5 million – two programs highlighted by the New Yorkers.

The lawmakers’ letter said New York City could see $45 million in homeland security grants cut under Trump’s budget.

“The Trump budget is an act of national self-sabotage,” they said. “In just the first half of 2025, we have seen seven terrorist plots—roughly one per month. 24 years following 9/11 terror attacks, the threat of terrorism remains as real as it has ever been.”

The Democrats noted that New York’s police and fire departments “routinely provide reinforcements and technical assistance to jurisdictions across the United States.”

“The homeland security grants for NYC enables a national network of mutual aid between and among states,” they argued.

The White House FY26 budget proposal is traditionally just an initial plan that undergoes changes as lawmakers negotiate what’s feasible.

148 DEMOCRATS BACK NONCITIZEN VOTING IN DC AS GOP RAISES ALARM ABOUT FOREIGN AGENTS

With a Republican trifecta in Washington, however, Republicans will likely be under added pressure to deliver on a vision as close to Trump’s as possible.

Separately, GOP lawmakers are also working on the sweeping tax and immigration legislation that Trump dubbed his “big, beautiful bill,” with a goal of getting that bill to Trump’s desk by Fourth of July.

When reached for comment on the letter, the White House referred Fox News Digital to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

A DHS spokesperson said, “Claims that DHS is reducing focus on terrorism prevention are unequivocally false.”

“Allegations of weakening these programs are baseless. DHS is enhancing intelligence and infrastructure protection to keep cities secure. We remain fully dedicated to preventing another 9/11 with robust, targeted investments,” the DHS spokesperson said.

But Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, told Fox News Digital, “We do not even have President Trump’s full 2026 budget request yet, but from what we have seen, the cuts he is proposing across the federal government threaten our national security.”

“House Republicans are tasked with drafting these bills and Democrats stand ready to work in a bipartisan manner, but we will not support final 2026 funding bills that fail to keep our communities safe,” DeLauro said.

A spokesperson for House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, R-Okla., did not return a request for comment on the letter.

US warns travelers of ‘violent crime,’ weak policing in popular vacation hot spot

Officials are warning Americans to “exercise increased caution” when traveling to a popular summer tourist destination in light of violent crime rates and a lack of law enforcement resources throughout the country.

The United States Department of State has issued an updated travel advisory for the Dominican Republic, according to the agency’s website.

“Violent crime is a concern in the Dominican Republic despite more police presence in areas often visited by tourists,” the department said in a statement. “Do not display wealth and be wary of meeting individuals from online in secluded locations.”

The warning, which previously listed the Caribbean vacation destination as a Level 2 advisory, was posted on June 12 following a periodic update, according to a State Department spokesperson.

Countries are assigned advisories from Level 1-4 based on the area’s risk factors, such as civil unrest and natural disasters.

A Level 2 advisory is considered mid-level and advises travelers to “exercise increased caution” while traveling abroad, according to the State Department. A Level 3 advisory cautions visitors to “reconsider travel,” while a Level 4 advises against traveling altogether.

The warning also noted that “criminals are rarely caught and prosecuted,” with instances of robbery, homicide and sexual assault prevalent throughout the country.

Only days after a gunman shot and killed Minnesota state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, the family’s rescue dog Gilbert had to be euthanized.

Vance Boelter allegedly shot Gilbert, the family’s golden retriever, during the attack at the Brooklyn Park home.

Fellow Minnesota House Rep. Erin Koegel commented on social media platform X that he was put down following the murder.

MINNESOTA SHOOTING SUSPECT VANCE BOELTER TO FACE FEDERAL CHARGES IN LAWMAKER ATTACKS

“Her children had to put down him after learning their parents had been murdered. Gilbert wasn’t going to survive. Melissa loved that dog. She trained him as a service dog. He flunked out of school and she was so happy he failed so he could stay! She needed him in heaven with her,” Koegel said.

Helping Paws, a local non-profit in Eden Prairie, Minn, took to Facebook after hearing of Rep. Hortman’s death to share some kind words and a photo of Gilbert and Hortman together.

The group said they remembered Hortman for her kindness and compassion.  They said she always strived to make the world a better place.

“This morning, we learned of the tragic and senseless death of former Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark,” the post began.

“Melissa served her community in more ways than one. She was a Helping Paws Foster Home Trainer, a neighbor, and a friend. The Hortman family raised and trained Minnie, who is now a working service dog partnered with a Veteran. They also helped raise and train Gilbert, a service dog in training who was eventually career changed and became a cherished member of their family. At this time, we do not have confirmed information about Gilbert’s condition,” the nonprofit wrote Saturday, after Hortman’s death.

Koegel told the Minnesota Star Tribune that the House sergeant-at-arms informed members that Gilbert had to be put down. Hortman’s adult children released a statement Monday night, saying that one way to keep their parent’s memory alive would be to: “Pet a dog. A golden retriever is ideal, but any will do.”

Vance Boelter, 57, was hit with multiple federal charges after officials captured him Sunday in what police described as the “largest manhunt” in the state’s history.

He is charged with two counts of stalking, two counts of murder and two counts of firearm-related crimes in federal court.

In addition to the federal charges, Boelter is facing second-degree murder charges filed in Hennepin County, where he is accused of killing former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, early Saturday morning at their Brooklyn Park home in Minneapolis, and of shooting State Sen. John Hoffman, also a Democrat, and his wife, Yvette, in their nearby Champlin home in a related attack.

Rep McBride suggests Democrats overplayed their hand on transgender issues

Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del., told the New York Times on Tuesday that the Democratic Party may have overplayed their hand with regard to trans issues during the 2024 election cycle.

McBride, the first transgender representative who was elected to Congress in 2024, spoke to The New York Times’ Ezra Klein about where the Democratic Party went wrong on transgender issues and how they should approach winning back the public.

“I think that’s an accurate reflection of the overplaying of the hand in some ways — that we as a coalition went to Trans 201, Trans 301, when people were still at a very much Trans 101 stage,” McBride said.

McBride suggested that the trans movement caused a perceived cultural aggression that allowed the GOP to say, “We’re punishing trans people because of their actions. Rather than: We’re going after innocent bystanders.”

DEMOCRATIC REP CALLS ON PARTY TO TOLERATE DISSENTING IDEAS ON CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES

“And I think some of the cultural mores and norms that started to develop around inclusion of trans people were probably premature for a lot of people. We became absolutist — not just on trans rights but across the progressive movement — and we forgot that in a democracy we have to grapple with where the public authentically is and actually engage with it. Part of this is fostered by social media,” the Delaware lawmaker said.

McBride argued that progressives pushed for every single perfect policy and cultural norm without keeping public opinion in mind.

“We decided that we now have to say and fight for and push for every single perfect policy and cultural norm right now, regardless of whether the public is ready. And I think it misunderstands the role that politicians and, frankly, social movements have in maintaining proximity to public opinion, of walking people to a place,” McBride told the NYT.

The Democratic lawmaker cautioned the party not to get too far ahead of public opinion and said they lose their grip on it if they do.

ANONYMOUS DEMOCRATS CONFESS TO TIME MAGAZINE THEIR PARTY IS TOO EXTREME ON ABORTION, TRANS ATHLETES

“And I think a lot of the conversations around sports and also some of the cultural changes that we saw in expected workplace behavior, etc., was the byproduct of maybe just getting too far out ahead and not actually engaging in the art of social change-making,” McBride continued.

McBride said in November that the GOP’s focus on countering trans issues was a “distraction.”

“I think we are all united that attempts to attack a vulnerable community are not only mean-spirited, but really an attempt to misdirect. Because every single time we hear the incoming administration or Republicans in Congress talk about any vulnerable group in this country, we have to be clear that it is an attempt to distract,” McBride said during an interview last year with CBS.

The lawmaker was surprised by Republicans prioritizing efforts to keep transgender athletes out of girls’ sports, according to a January 2025 interview.

“I’ve had conversations with colleagues about many of the bills that are coming before us and certainly have heard from some colleagues who, like me, are mystified that this is a priority for a Republican conference that is entering a Republican trifecta, that this is an issue that they prioritize,” McBride said.

McBride noted during the interview with Klein that the transgender movement needed to negotiate with public opinion, and that they shouldn’t treat the public like Republican politicians.

“When you recognize that distinction, I think it allows for a pragmatic approach that has, in my mind, the best possible chance of shifting public opinion as quickly as possible. It would be one thing if screaming about how dangerous this is right now had the effect of stopping these attacks, but it won’t,” McBride said.

Major food company becomes first to remove artificial dyes from American favorites

Kraft Heinz announced on Tuesday that it will remove all FD&C artificial dyes from its U.S. portfolio by the end of 2027 amid pressure from the Trump administration to phase out artificial colors from the nation’s food supply.

Kraft, one of the largest food and drink manufacturers in North America, also said it would not launch any new products in the U.S. with artificial colors, effective immediately. Kraft Heinz said it is working with licensees of its brands to encourage them to remove artificial colors, which are often referred to as FD&C colors because they can also be used in drugs and cosmetics and are subject to a strict system of approval under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).

“The vast majority of our products use natural or no colors, and we’ve been on a journey to reduce our use of FD&C colors across the remainder of our portfolio,” Pedro Navio, Kraft Heinz’s president of North America operations, said in a statement.

FDA BANS ARTIFICIAL RED DYE: WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CONSUMERS

Navio said the company’s well-known tomato ketchup has never included artificial dyes, noting that the red color comes from the tomatoes it is made with. The company did, however, remove artificial colors, preservatives and flavors from its Kraft Mac & Cheese in 2016.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has focused his efforts on cutting out the colors since being sworn into office earlier this year.

“For too long, some food producers have been feeding Americans petroleum-based chemicals without their knowledge or consent,” Kennedy said in a statement in April. “These poisonous compounds offer no nutritional benefit and pose real, measurable dangers to our children’s health and development.”

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved seven certified color additives for use in food, six of which were approved by 1931. But in April, the FDA announced plans to work with the industry to eliminate FD&C Green No. 3, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Blue No. 1 and FD&C Blue No. 2 from the food supply by the end of next year.

Synthetic food dye, Red No. 3, was already banned in food and drugs earlier this year.

RED FOOD DYE COULD SOON BE BANNED AS FDA REVIEWS PETITION: ‘SCARY STUFF’

In January, the issue of color additives came into focus when the FDA said it was issuing an order to revoke the authorization for the use of Red No. 3 – also known as Erythrosine and gives certain foods and drinks a bright, cherry-red color – after it reviewed a petition filed that argues, under a rule called the Delaney Clause, the FDA should ban this color additive in foods and drugs on a federal level because it has been shown to cause cancer in animals.

The synthetic dye is already banned in the European Union. For over three decades, it has also been banned in cosmetics and topical drugs because of data demonstrating that it is associated with animal carcinogenicity.

Conservatives and critics on social media slammed American Federation of Teachers (AFT) chief Randi Weingarten for her animated “No Kings Day” speech targeting President Donald Trump in the wake of her abrupt departure from the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

“Randi Weingarten is once again on stage bouncing around, flailing her arms, and screeching like a lunatic. Another ad for homeschooling!” popular conservative X account Libs of TikTok posted Sunday, accompanied by footage of Weingarten at a “No Kings Day” protest in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Footage of Weingarten’s speech has since spread across social media as reports circulated Sunday evening into Monday morning that the teachers union chief declined the DNC’s offer for her to stay on as an at-large member.

Fellow union official Lee Saunders of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees also denied the DNC’s offer to stay on, Fox News Digital reported Monday. The pair’s exit follows former Vice Chair David Hogg’s exit from the DNC earlier in June after choosing not to run for re-election.

“I appear to be out of step with the leadership you are forging, and I do not want to be the one who keeps questioning why we are not enlarging our tent and actively trying to engage more and more of our communities,” Weingarten wrote in a letter dated June 5 to DNC Chair Ken Martin explaining her departure.

Conservatives and other critics slammed Weingarten and her leadership over AFT, while also resurrecting footage from Saturday of Weingarten’s speech slamming Trump while jumping up and down in an animated manner.

“You are the community to this president’s chaos, and together we build a future of opportunity and justice for all,” Weingarten said during her “No Kings” remarks in Philadelphia. “Hope over fear, aspiration over anger. The promise of America for each and every American, that is what we are fighting for today.”

Some on social media called footage of her Saturday speech a “meltdown,” while others rehashed how Weingarten pushed to shutter schools during the pandemic.

“DEMOCRATS: The Democrat Party just lost the support of the nation’s second largest Teachers Union led by Randi Weingarten. The DNC board member and superdelegate resigned from the party the day after she led the nationwide ‘No King’s protest. The Democrats are in complete disarray as they can’t decide who to support much less what they stand for…” X account Amuse posted, accompanied by a clip of Weingarten’s speech.

ANTI-TRUMP MILITARY PARADE DEMONSTRATIONS PUT MAJOR CITIES ACROSS AMERICA ON HIGH ALERT

“Randi Weingarten has RESIGNED from the DNC after 23 years of wrecking American education. This is the same woman who kept your kids masked, locked classrooms, and turned schools into activist training camps. The damage she caused won’t be forgotten but her exit is the first sign the rot is being scraped out. One radical down… a whole party to go,” another conservative X account posted.

“JUST IN: Randi Weingarten steps down from the DNC. This comes after her massive meltdown at the ‘No Kings’ protest,” one critic posted to X, accompanied by the footage

“Randi Weingarten’s resignation from the DNC post- ‘No Kings’ protest meltdown reflects deepening divisions within the Democratic Party,” another conservative X account posted

“This was Randi Weingarten yesterday at the ‘No Kings’ protest. She just retired. The trash is taking itself out,” another conservative commentator said in reaction to the video

LIBERAL MEDIA DOWNPLAYS LA RIOTS, DISMISS VIOLENCE AS ISOLATED WHILE TOUTING ‘PEACEFUL’ ANTI-ICE PROTESTS

Weingarten was among vocal Democrats pushing for Trump critics to take to the streets on Saturday as part of the national “No Kings Day” protests, including sharing a link on X to the AFT’s website promoting the protests.

“On June 14, we’re coming together, peacefully and powerfully, to stand up against Presidents being Kings. It’s about strong public schools, supporting  working families, and our fundamental freedoms . This day of action is about making our democracy work for all. It’s about we the people not just about responding to what’s wrong—it’s about building something better,” she posted to X June 10.

The “No Kings Day” protests were held on the same day as Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C., celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, which also fell on the president’s birthday and Flag Day. An estimated 1,500 “No Kings Day” protests unfolded across the nation, including in Los Angeles, which has been rocked by violent anti-Trump and anti-ICE riots since June 6, when federal law enforcement officials converged on the city to conduct immigration raids.

Protests in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, spiraled into violence Saturday. Four law enforcement officers were injured during a riot in Portland, while law enforcement in Los Angeles were forced to deploy tear gas, flash-bangs and a dispersal order, with the LAPD citing “people in the crowd (were) throwing rocks, bricks, bottles and other objects” at officers.

Fox News Digital reached out to the AFT for additional comment from the union and Weingarten regarding the DNC departure and negative conservative reactions but did not immediately receive a reply.

Chicago suspends program to protect illegal immigrants after ICE requests info

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Chicago city clerk Anna Valencia suspended the online application method of obtaining CityKey IDs after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sent a subpoena to her office for the information of applicants.

As the Trump administration continues its efforts to deport an unprecedented wave of illegal immigrants allowed to enter the country during the Biden administration, it faces resistance from local officials. Leaders of particularly Democratic-leaning cities like Chicago are some of the most outspoken about their efforts to protect illegal immigrants from being deported.

Valencia announced Friday that her office would take the CityKey online portal offline, the Chicago Tribune reported. CityKeys are a local government-issued form of ID that is accessible to Chicago residents regardless of their immigration status, gender identity, or criminal history. Her decision to suspend the online application portal occurred after ICE subpoenaed her office for the information provided by noncitizens, in their mission to pursue illegal immigrants.

The Chicago Tribune noted that when the municipal ID program was first introduced in 2017, it was intended to skirt public records law and protect personal information by only processing applications in-person.

‘BOGUS CLAIMS’: BLUE CITY MAYOR UNDER FIRE FOR TRYING TO HALT REOPENING OF ICE FACILITY

However, as the migrant crisis spiked in the subsequent years, the city created an online portal to process applicants; documents that the office is not allowed to destroy under public records law.

Responding to advocates alarmed at the online retention of documents that could be used by ICE, Valencia paused that aspect of the program.

“We did hear, ‘Let’s pause the online platform temporarily as we take a pulse and evaluate what’s happening,'” Valencia told the Tribune. “We’re going to assess what’s happening daily and where the climate is, and if we feel we are in a different place, we can easily turn the online platform back on, but we are not going anywhere.”

In May 2024, the City Council signed off on a new amendment to the municipal code that added, “Information provided by Applicants utilizing the online platform to obtain a City of Chicago ID will be stored.”

“Listen, I’ve always been honest and transparent and led with integrity,” Valencia told the Tribune, referencing online warnings about records retention. “I know there’s a lot of fear out there, so I want to be very clear that we’re going to fight giving over any data to the federal government… No data was given over to ICE, period, zero, for the CityKey.”

“I want to go back to the original problem, that if this Trump administration wasn’t overreaching for private people’s data, this would not even be a conversation,” Valencia said. “This is Trump doing a witch hunt and intentionally trying to instill fear in people so that they can overtake our democracy.”

The city says it does not have to comply with ICE’s administrative subpoena, but if ICE comes back with a court order it could set off a legal battle.

A former Massachusetts financial analyst accused of killing her Boston cop boyfriend in a drunken hit-and-run is awaiting her fate after a second lengthy trial in a small courthouse in Dedham.

Karen Read, 45, faces murder and other charges in the death of 46-year-old John O’Keefe, who had taken in his orphaned niece and nephew and appeared to want to end the relationship.

Jurors spent just under two hours deliberating Friday and returned Monday for their first full day.

“People are out there wondering why we don’t have a verdict yet,” said Grace Edwards, a Massachusetts trial attorney who is closely following the case. “I think the jury is working hard to understand the requirements of each count and working through them.”
