Journalist reveals Trump’s private calls after Butler shooting: ‘Hand of God’
Nearly a year after the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, journalist and author Salena Zito is speaking out about what she witnessed, and the personal conversations she had with Trump in the hours that followed.
“I see him grab his ear. I see the blood streak across his face,” Zito recalled during an interview on the “Brain Kilmeade Show,” Thursday. “I see him take himself down. That was my first indication that maybe he’s okay. Or at least he’s not as gravely wounded as I thought he might be because of the blood.”
Zito was in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13th of last year, when gunfire rang out at a Trump campaign rally. She had been scheduled to interview the president when the shots were fired by 20-year-old gunman Thomas Crooks.

A bullet struck Trump in the upper ear, and several others were hit in the crowd, including firefighter Corey Comperatore, who died from his injuries.

In her new book, “Butler: The Untold Story of the Near Assassination of Donald Trump and the Fight for America’s Heartland,” Zito shares her firsthand account of the historic day.
“I heard everything,” she said of the chaotic moments after the shots. “Including his insistence to put his shoes on,” which she described as “comic relief” in the tense aftermath.
According to Zito, Trump called her the very next day to check on her and her family.
“He would go on to call me, it was a total of seven times that day,” she told Kilmeade. “We had some powerful conversations.”
JOURNALIST WHO REFUSED TO DUCK DURING TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT REFLECTS ON BUTLER RALLY IN NEW BOOK
She said the president kept asking questions about the day, like why he decided to turn his head or face the chart onstage, a move which may have saved him from a far worse injury.
“He [Trump] comes to the conclusion, several times, that it was the hand of God,” said Zito, who explained the president believed he had been left alive for a reason.
“He was spared because he has been given a higher purpose than to just be a candidate for president,” she said of the emotional experience. “To be the best thing that he could possibly be for the country
In the moments immediately after the attack, Zito said Trump refused to be rushed off the stage, and that she chose to ask him about that decision.

“He’s like, ‘I wasn’t Donald Trump in that moment. I represented the presidency of the United States,’” he told Zito. Trump went on to say he felt he needed to represent the “grit” and “exceptionalism” of the United States and prevent a potential panic in the crowd.
Zito said he told her, “I needed people to know that we go on, and we will always go on no matter what.”

Former California rock star slams Trump, ‘corruption’ in surprise campaign launch
OneRepublic co-founder and former bassist Tim Myers announced his campaign for California lieutenant governor on Monday.
On his campaign website, he cited “a broken political system” and “Trump’s attacks on California” as reasons behind his decision.
“He’ll bring a fresh, strong voice to the Lt. Governor’s office to fight back against the Trump administration’s attacks, take on the rigged system with commonsense solutions, and ensure every Californian has the opportunity to chase their dreams, can afford to make a living here, and feels safe,” his website reads.
CALIFORNIA LT. GOVERNOR SAYS LOS ANGELES RIOTS ARE ‘GENERATED BY DONALD TRUMP’
Myers had previously announced a run for the U.S. House of Representatives in April. He explained his shift in campaigns in an Instagram post on Monday.
“I’ve heard from neighbors and friends whose homes and small businesses were robbed. I’ve watched homelessness grow. I’ve seen backdoor deals and political corruption—not just from Trump and his billionaire allies in Washington, but right here in our own backyard in California. I’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with protesters demanding change. But when I looked, I didn’t see our state politicians standing with us. And I realized: I can’t stay silent. I can’t stay on the sidelines,” his Instagram post read.
On TMZ Live Thursday, Myers went further and attacked his fellow lieutenant governor candidates for “not standing up” and using the position as a way to climb the political ladder.

“Every single candidate that’s running right now for lieutenant governor said they want to be governor someday and they’re climbing the political ladder,” Myers said. “You know the only ladder I care about is the working people here in California climbing up the ladder. They literally can’t afford to buy homes or pay for their rent or pay for groceries or put gas in their tank. So I think it’s honestly insulting for the candidates in this race to say they want to be governor someday. I am not focused on that.”
The lieutenant governor election will be held in November.
Myers’ fellow OneRepublic co-founder, Ryan Tedder, came under his own political fire last month over his post defending President Donald Trump’s military parade that commemorated the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
“All politics & parties and righteous indignation aside it’s a super bummer that instead of celebrating the 250th anniversary of the USA ARMY and all those who have fought and died on our behalf… We’re protesting,” Tedder wrote on an Instagram story that was later deleted.

The post added, “I haven’t been a card carrying political member of either side in over 20 years & think at this point everything is absurd 99% of the time. But I’d like to say THANKYOU to all of the Army service members active and retired and those who have given their lives to protect our freedom…to protest.”
Once again CBO has ‘cooked the books’ on Trump’s economic legislation
The Republican Congress and President Donald Trump just delivered a major victory to the American people by passing and enacting into law the historic One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB). Predictably, liberal media outlets – led by CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times and the Washington Post – continue to insist the OBBB will add trillions of dollars to our national debt.
The truth – backed by both historical experience and robust economic analysis – is the exact opposite. President Trump’s OBBB will not only boost jobs and take-home pay for America’s working-class families. It will slash deficits by trillions of dollars even as its targeted expenditures will strengthen our national defense and secure our borders. As a bonus, OBBB will rapidly accelerate the deportation of millions of illegal aliens now stealing jobs from American citizens and driving down wages.
At the center of the Fake News misinformation storm is the Congressional Budget Office. For years, the CBO has been trapped in a stale left-wing Keynesian mindset and stubbornly committed to static scoring models that fail to grasp how real-world economies respond to bold, pro-growth policies. As someone who has witnessed President Trump craft his economic agenda from inside the West Wing, I can tell you firsthand: when you cut taxes, slash job-killing regulations, achieve energy dominance, defend America’s manufacturing base with tariffs and fight for fair trade, the economy doesn’t just inch forward – it takes off.
Exhibit A: The Trump 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. I was there when the CBO confidently projected a return to a sleepy Obama-Biden “new normal” 1.8–2.0% trend growth. But what actually happened?
PRESIDENT TRUMP’S ‘BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’ WILL UNLEASH PARALLEL PROSPERITY
In 2018, real GDP roared ahead at 2.9%. Business investment surged. Hundreds of billions in overseas profits came home. Small businesses and consumers finally felt like Washington had their backs – and they responded by spending, investing and hiring. All of this completely blindsided the bean counters at CBO, who missed the wave of innovation and confidence that Trump’s policies ignited.
Comes now CBO 2.0 – once again stumbling into the Trump policy arena with its trademark combination of backward-looking modeling and partisan blind spots. Instead of learning from its spectacular misfire on the Trump 2017 tax bill, the CBO is now recycling the same flawed assumptions to smear the fiscal integrity of President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill – and the Fake News is eating it up.
Here’s how the tired old misinformation act of the CBO has unfolded: At the outset of scoring the OBBB, the CBO defaulted to its static methodology. As in 2017, it assumed a chronically underwhelming annual real GDP growth rate of just 1.8% – the same stale figure it has clung to for over a decade, regardless of the supply-side reforms at play. Unsurprisingly, the result of the CBO’s debut analysis of OBBB was a headline-grabbing forecast of $3.9 trillion added to the national debt over the next 10 years.
Of course, this initial forecast came under withering fire for two glaring omissions. First, as in 2017, it ignored the dynamic growth effects baked into the OBBB’s permanent tax cuts, deregulatory measures, and investment incentives. Second, it refused to account for the revenue-generating power of Trump’s tariff policy, which the White House projects will generate as much as $2.8 trillion over the same decade.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINION
Under heavy fire, the CBO scrambled to release a second “dynamic” estimate – but once again, they blew it. This time, they cooked the books by frontloading the bill’s costs, artificially inflating the early debt load. That let them assume a spike in interest rates, which then conveniently wiped out the very growth their model was supposed to measure. It was a masterclass in bureaucratic sabotage disguised as fiscal analysis.
To wit: When you frontload spending – particularly on growth-oriented tax relief and business investment incentives – you should also frontload the growth surge those policies trigger. More investment, more jobs and more productivity from this dynamic growth surge translate into higher revenues and lower debt burdens, not higher. And with reduced borrowing needs, interest rates should fall – not rise – as the market prices in stronger fiscal sustainability.
Had the CBO conducted an intellectually honest dynamic analysis AND accurately accounted for the Trump tariffs, it would have forecast a massive multitrillion-dollar surplus, NOT an equally massive increase in the debt. Instead, what we got was yet another ideological forecast designed to discredit a Trump-led growth agenda that history has already vindicated once before.

This CBO trash is what the Fake News is taking out now every day and night before the American people in its Trump Derangement Syndrome efforts to discredit what is beyond question a truly Big, Beautiful and FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE bill.
Here’s the Real News: President Trump has designed a tax cut that will not just pay for itself through more rapid economic growth and robust tariff collections. OBBB will reduce America’s deficits by the trillions while financing everything from no taxes on tips and overtime to a much stronger national defense and far secure border. Get ready for the rocket ship.

‘I’m gonna support him 100%’: NBA legend makes surprising political endorsement
Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley said in a recent interview he would support Auburn Tigers men’s basketball head coach Bruce Pearl if Pearl decided to run for U.S. Senate.
Though he doesn’t want Pearl to leave the Tigers team he’s coached the last 11 years.
“I respect and trust him. I just told him to do what he wants to do,” Barkley told AL.com. “Obviously, he’s made Auburn basketball relevant, which makes me happy. I said, ‘Hey, man, as much as I love you being the head basketball coach at Auburn, you taking Auburn to two Final Fours, something I never thought would happen, but I do understand.’

New Democrat bill threatens to bring Seattle’s failed homeless policies to you
Just when you thought the radical left’s social experiments couldn’t get any more out of touch with the reality of everyday Americans, Washington Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Florida Democrat Rep. Maxwell Frost have a new bill that would export the disastrous homelessness policies of Seattle to the entire nation.
Their “Housing Not Handcuffs Act” would effectively give a green light to the homeless encampments, crime and public health crises that have crippled cities like Seattle, all under the guise of compassion.
This is your warning.
For those of us who have witnessed the decay of our once-beautiful cities, the premise of this bill is not just misguided, but insulting. The legislation, introduced to mark the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Grants Pass decision, would prohibit any federal agency from criminalizing a homeless person engaging in “life-sustaining activities” on “public land.”
Sounds reasonable until you read the definitions. So-called “life-sustaining activities” includes “moving, resting, sitting, standing, lying down, sleeping, protecting oneself and personal property from the elements, eating, and drinking.” In other words, your local park, plazas, and even post office parking lots could become permanent residence zones for homeless drug addicts, with local authorities powerless to intervene.
Jayapal and Frost argue that fining or arresting people who are already struggling is counterproductive. This is a classic strawman argument.
No one is suggesting that a simple fine will solve the complex issue of homelessness. But to strip communities of the ability to maintain order and safety is a surrender, not a solution. It’s an open invitation for the kind of chaos that has become commonplace in Seattle, where a permissive culture has allowed encampments to fester, becoming magnets for drug use and violent crime.
NEWSOM UNVEILS AGGRESSIVE PLAN TO CLEAR HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS ACROSS CALIFORNIA: ‘NO MORE EXCUSES’
The “Seattle model” for homelessness has been an abject failure. I covered it, and many other far-left proposals from blue cities, in detail in my book, “What’s Killing America: Inside the Radical Left’s Tragic Destruction of Our Cities.”
For years, the city has thrown money at the problem, funding a constellation of nonprofits and enacting policies that prioritize the “right” to camp in public over the rights of law-abiding citizens to enjoy their communities. The result? A humanitarian crisis on an epic scale.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINION
Homeless encampments filled with drug-addicted criminals took over elementary school property. Downtown Seattle looked like a zombie-ridden hellscape, fentanyl addicts wasting away, bodies contorted into near-impossible pretzels as they slowly killed themselves. The most recent Point-in-Time count found over 16,000 homeless people in King County, a number that continues to climb despite hundreds of millions in spending. Why bring these policies to Topeka, Kansas, Lansing, Michigang, or Orange County, California?
DEMS, GOP FORM RARE ALLIANCE ON YOUTH HOMELESSNESS BILL AS CRISIS IMPACTS NATION
The “Housing Not Handcuffs Act” would nationalize this failure. It would prevent federal agencies from addressing the very real public safety and health issues that arise from encampments. The bill’s language is so broad that it protects not just sleeping, but also storing personal property to the “same degree as property in a private dwelling.” It even grants them privacy rights over their public encampments. Imagine the implications: sprawling, unregulated encampments with the same legal protections as you in your own home.
This isn’t compassion; it’s a dereliction of duty. It’s a slap in the face to the business owners who have to clean up human waste from their storefronts, the parents who have to explain to their children why they can’t play in the park, and the countless victims of crimes committed in and around these encampments.
CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP
The proponents of this bill will tell you that the solution is more housing. And while no one disagrees that affordable housing is a piece of the puzzle, they conveniently ignore the fact that many of the chronically homeless are struggling with severe mental illness and addiction. Simply providing a roof is not enough. We need a comprehensive approach that includes treatment, personal responsibility, and, yes, the enforcement of basic laws that keep our communities safe and livable for everyone.
The “Housing Not Handcuffs Act” is not a serious proposal to address homelessness. It’s a radical, open-borders approach to our public spaces, a bill that would turn every town in America into a potential Seattle. It’s time for the rest of the country to wake up and see what happens when progressive platitudes collide with reality. The result is not a utopia of “housing justice”; it’s a landscape of human suffering, filth and fear. We can and must do better.

‘Recent discoveries’ prompt Texas lawmaker to end 38-year marriage to embattled AG
Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton announced Thursday that she’s filed for divorce from state Attorney General Ken Paxton, her longtime husband.
“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds,” the state senator wrote in a social media post.
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” she added. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”
Ken Paxton is currently running against longtime Republican Sen. John Cornyn in next year’s GOP primary, in what’s shaping up to be a bruising and nasty Senate nomination battle.
TRUMP ALLY PAXTON LAUNCHES SENATE PRIMARY CHALLENGE IN TEXAS
Paxton, who first won election as Texas attorney general in 2014 and has been re-elected twice, was impeached a couple of years ago by the Texas House of Representatives on allegations of corruption, which included claims related to an extramarital affair.
RED STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL LAUNCHES ELECTION INTEGRITY PROBE
The attorney general, who has long been a major supporter and ally of President Donald Trump, was later acquitted by the state Senate.
“After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” Ken Paxton said in a statement.
The attorney general added that “I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren. I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time.”
While Trump has stayed neutral so far in the Senate primary in Texas, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) are backing Cornyn.
“What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting. No one should have to endure what Senator Paxton has, and we pray for her as she chooses to stand up for herself and her family during this difficult time,” NRSC communications director Joanna Rodriguez said in a statement to Fox News.

Dennis Quaid shares heartbreaking personal connection to Texas flash floods
Dennis Quaid has deep ties to Texas.
The “Sovereign” star was born and raised in the Lone Star State and still has ties to the area. As Texans are dealing with deadly flash floods that claimed over 100 lives, the actor shared a personal story about the day the floods began.
His daughter, Zoe, 17, was working as a counselor at a camp approximately 75 miles north of Kerrville, when news began breaking about the flooding, Quaid told Fox News Digital. She’d been attending the camp since she was a young girl, and the night the flooding began, he wasn’t able to get a hold of her.
DENNIS QUAID ON HIS FAITH GETTING HIM THROUGH THE GOOD AND HARD TIMES: ‘WE ALL NEED THAT’
“I heard about this as I was going to bed that night,” Quaid explained, “and I tried to call her because I knew she was up there. I knew it wasn’t near where the floods were, but I wasn’t able to talk to her till the next day.”
He added that he “didn’t really get a lot of sleep that night.”
Quaid said his daughter and others at the camp were “relatively safe up there,” but another girl at the camp lost her family in the floods.
“One of the girls at that camp lost her whole family who were camping in an RV, I guess, on the Guadalupe River, and they were swept away,” he said.
Quaid and his wife, Laura Savoie, are also friends with the Hunt family. Clark Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, lost a family member in the disaster, 9-year-old Janie Hunt.
“I can’t imagine how that would … how devastating that would be,” he admitted.
“We just need to pray for people,” he added, naming the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, a local fundraiser that’s supporting relief and rebuilding efforts in the community.
“You think of those kids that night, and it just chills my heart. Do a lot of praying because there’s a lot of people that need to be prayed for still.”
FAITH BRINGS LIGHT TO DEVASTATED TEXAS TOWN AFTER DEADLY FLOODING DISASTER
During his conversation with Fox News Digital, Quaid also spoke about his new film, “Sovereign,” which is in theaters and available for digital purchase and rental today.
The film, inspired by true events, tells the story of a father and son, played by Nick Offerman and Jacob Tremblay, who consider themselves sovereign citizens, a group the FBI refers to as “anti-government extremists who believe that even though they physically reside in this country, they are separate or ‘sovereign’ from the United States.” Quaid plays a police chief who crosses paths with them.

When asked about the responsibility Hollywood has when portraying these kinds of politically charged stories, Quaid said, “I think if you just try to tell the story as it happened instead of putting something else on it. … For instance, I don’t really want to compare this to Democrats and Republicans right now, or even ICE.
“Sovereigns are a different group. They’re not even anarchists to the sense. They don’t belong to anything. They don’t have a driver’s license. It’s like they don’t enter into a contract with the government, and so, therefore, they’re not subject to any laws that they don’t recognize.”
As for portraying characters with beliefs that differ from his own, Quaid told Fox News Digital, “I play people from their point of view.

“[How] we think and our actions are governed to a large extent by the way we grew up. But is it genetic or is it the environment that we were in? And both of those things contribute.”
Quaid explained that since “Sovereign” is based on a true story, he spent time speaking with the police chief his character was inspired by. And he said the writer and director, Christian Swegal, has a family member who is a sovereign citizen.

Index fund takes on DEI, only invests in companies that hire based on merit
A so-called “anti-DEI” index fund launched on Tuesday, giving investors an opportunity to invest solely in companies that engage in hiring based on merit, not demographic factors, according to its founder.
“It is the first ever index fund that is committed solely to meritocracy, so unlike a traditional S&P 500 ETF from BlackRock or Vanguard, we do not invest in companies that impose DEI hiring targets, Nike, Starbucks, Intel, Airbnb. There’s 37 in total and the reason why we don’t invest with them is that these are both a moral and a financial failure,” Azoria CEO and founder James Fishback told Fox News Digital.
BlackRock, whose Chief Executive Larry Fink said that DEI was embedded in “everything we do” in a 2021 letter to shareholders, has distanced itself from the controversial policies as of late, removing multiple references to DEI from its latest annual report in February. The mutual fund Vanguard has also softened its DEI stance and removed some of its guidance for U.S. companies to have women and minority directors.
“Intel has a longstanding commitment to attracting, retaining, and advancing the best talent to innovate for our customers and strengthen our business. Our hiring and promotion practices follow a competitive and fair process in compliance with the law, and we do not use identity-based quotas,” an Intel representative told Fox News Digital in a statement, after Fishback named the company specifically.
EXPERT REVEALS HOW COMPANIES ARE REBRANDING ‘TOXIC’ DEI POLICIES TO SKIRT TRUMP-ERA BANS: ‘NEW WRAPPER’
Fishback is an ally of President Donald Trump and a former Department of Government Efficiency advisor who proposed mailing Americans stimulus checks based off of DOGE savings. He told Fox News Digital he launched the “Azoria Meritocracy Fund” in the hope of getting investors bigger returns than what they would get from ETFs that buy shares in companies that have DEI hiring quotas.
To Fishback, his fund is not pursuing a political agenda, but just engaging in good business sense.
“Research that we just published today shows that the 37 companies in the S&P 500 that we exclude from the Azoria 500 meritocracy fund underperformed the S&P by 19 percentage points over the last two years. It’s no surprise why, they prevent companies from hiring the best. They force them to hire folks who are not yet qualified, and lastly, they weaken employee trust and morale. All of that leads to lower stock returns in the long-term,” Fishback said.
“We’re making, really, a financial bet here that companies that hire on skill and merit will be more successful than companies that hire on race and gender.”
RED STATE TREASURER REVEALS WHY STATE FINANCIAL OFFICERS HAVE ‘OBLIGATION’ TO COMBAT ESG, DEI
Corporate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies have been on the retreat since Trump took office in January. In the first days of his second term in office, Trump issued a series of sweeping executive orders targeting “illegal DEI” and prohibiting federal agencies from contracting with companies that engage in DEI hiring practices. He also ordered the federal government to probe nine companies to determine if their DEI initiatives violated federal law.
DEI policies were widely embraced by corporate America following the death of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter riots in 2020. However, since Trump’s executive orders were issued, a wave of corporations have begun scaling back or eliminating their DEI programs. Disney, Facebook, Google and Paramount have all made significant changes to their DEI policies and eliminated many of the most controversial elements, including aspirational hiring goals in some cases.
Fishback told Fox News Digital that his fund only excludes companies that engage in DEI hiring goals, which he says hurt companies by shifting their focus from business priorities and towards political goals. He said he determines which companies have DEI targets in their hiring based off of public statements, internal research done by the fund and meetings with executives at various companies.
“Whether it’s DEI targets or ESG mandates, anytime you subvert the natural inclination of a business to do what’s in its best interest to then do something that is not in its best interest to appease political overlords, or to fuel a political agenda, that hurts one, the shareholders, two, the stock price, and three, it hurts the very people that you’re often saying that you’re helping,” Fishback told Fox News Digital.
According to the investor, companies excluded from the fund can always join later if they abandon their DEI hiring goals. He pointed to Best Buy as a company that was initially excluded but is now a “proud member” of the Azoria Meritocracy Fund.
