Portland ICE director says city politics stopped police from protecting the facility

Federal immigration officials say their Portland, Oregon, facility has come under nightly attack, with little help from local police because of political directives from city leaders.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Bill Melugin, Cammila Wamsley, director of Portland’s ICE office, said the facility has faced violence for more than 100 consecutive nights, with Portland police largely absent under guidance from the mayor and city council.

“I just, I can’t figure out what’s happening at the FDA. I’m totally baffled by it,” Wamsley said, describing her frustration at seeing federal staff attacked outside the building while officers inside lack jurisdiction to intervene. “It’s frustrating for us to watch people be attacked on the street and know that we don’t have the authority to be able to really step in unless there’s some nexus to federal law.”

She said nightly protests have escalated beyond chants and signs, with bottle rockets striking the ICE building, rocks shattering windows, lasers targeting officers’ eyes and barricades blocking vehicles.

Wamsley said protesters have followed ICE staff members home and doxxed at least six employees.

“Later, towards the evening and around dark, there are a lot of folks that come up dressed in all black,” she explained. “They are here to wreak havoc. They’ll block our cars, throw paint, damage property, and even try to follow our folks home.”

She warned that when crowds swell quickly, the violence becomes more dangerous.

“We’ve seen it before. The folks here can go from a crowd of 50 to a crowd of 1,000 in 30 minutes,” she explained. “Sometimes we only have 20 officers here. We would not be able to defend the building with that show of force.”

Wamsley said the Portland Police Department has been slow to respond — and sometimes doesn’t respond at all — because of city policy. She explained that assaults have occurred outside and across the street from the building, but police have either taken too long to arrive or not shown up at all.

“That is not the stance they would take six blocks from here, but it is the stance they take with us because of guidance from the mayor and city council,” Wamsley said.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Portland mayor’s office and police department for comment.

Still, Wamsley said ICE staff remain committed to their mission despite the unrest.

“The people that work here, are here to serve the American public,” she said. “They are here to enforce the same immigration laws we’ve had in place since the 1950s. Nothing has changed in that regard. We come to work every day. We do our job the way we have been doing it, and we’ll continue to do that.”

Todd Rignel, assistant special agent for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Oregon, said federal agencies are targeting Antifa-linked groups they blame for organizing much of the unrest.

“They’re not just facing HSI. They’re facing the FBI, ATF, DEA, IRS – all of these agencies,” he said. “That’s a force to be reckoned with.”

The comments come as Portland remains a flashpoint for unrest, with the ICE facility at the center of nightly confrontations.

President Donald Trump announced plans to send 200 National Guard troops to Portland to support immigration authorities. Officials said the troops would be stationed near protest areas.

The warnings follow an attack on an ICE facility in Dallas on Sept. 24. Authorities said two detainees were killed and another was hospitalized after a gunman opened fire before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 

Investigators said shell casings recovered at the scene bore an “ANTI-ICE” message.

As the federal government shutdown continues, a clip from the 2019 Democratic presidential primary went viral when the candidates were asked if they support providing healthcare to those in the country illegally.

“Is JD Vance a liar or just woefully ignorant when claiming that Democrats want to give health benefits to undocumented immigrants?” disgraced ex-Democratic Minnesota Sen. Al Franken posted to X on Wednesday, leading to the clip being posted in the comments by one user.

“Raise your hand if your government plan would provide coverage for undocumented immigrants,” NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie asked while moderating the June 2019 debate followed by all ten Democrats on stage raising their hands.

“You should stick to intimate photography,” GOP communicator Matt Whitlock posted on X, referring to the disgraced ex-senator’s scandal that included a photo of him smiling while posing and groping radio host Leeann Tweeden, who was sleeping in the photo.

“Why don’t we let Democrats answer that?” Heritage Action said, posting the debate clip. 

The clip, which included multiple current members of Congress like Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., also garnered the attention of billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who posted “lol” in response to the debate video, which means “laugh out loud.”

Part of the ongoing government shutdown debate centers on subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, which would lead to a rise in premiums that opponents say prove that the program is unsustainable.

Illegal immigrants are unable to get insurance on the ACA marketplace, but Emergency Medicaid is covered as well as several states that use state taxpayer dollars for illegal immigrants to enroll in Medicaid.

However, California was once the subject of a federal audit where they were recommended to refund over $52.7 million in “improperly claimed” medical costs for those with “unsatisfactory immigration status.” 

“Democrats are now trying to run away from their RIDICULOUS $1.5 Trillion big government spending bill — now that Americans are learning what’s in it,” House Speaker Mike Johnson posted to X on Thursday. “Some Democrats now claim they don’t want illegal immigrants on Medicaid — but their previous votes, and the ACTUAL LANGUAGE of their current bill, say otherwise.”

However, some Democrats have also criticized Republicans for bringing up state-based Medicaid programs that offer coverage to illegal immigrants.

“This isn’t funded by the Federal Government or ACA Tax credits.  [The Vice President] is lying again. However if he wants to tell the GOP to write a bill to exclude illegal immigrants from buying on the market and restore ACA tax credits to 24 million Americans, I would be game,” Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., said in response to a post from Vice President JD Vance, which included a screenshot showing New York’s public health insurance coverage for “undocumented immigrants over age 65.”

As of Thursday afternoon, it’s unclear when the shutdown will end.

Sean “Diddy” Combs apologized for “all of the hurt and pain” he caused with his conduct in a letter submitted to the court ahead of Friday’s sentencing.

“I take full responsibility and accountability for my past wrongs,” Diddy wrote in the letter obtained by Fox News Digital. “This has been the hardest 2 years of my life, and I have no one to blame for my current reality and situation but myself.”

The fallen rap mogul admitted he was free from drugs and alcohol “for the first time in 25 years” and praised God “that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear and sober.”

On Friday, the “Last Night” singer is expected to address Judge Arun Subramanian during his sentencing hearing after his legal team asked for a 14-month penalty. Prosecutors have asked the court for a minimum of 11 years behind bars.

“Over the past year there have been so many times that I wanted to give up. There have been some days I thought I would be better off dead. The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you— I choose to live.”

A jury convicted Diddy on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution on July 2. The “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper was acquitted of his most serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.

Diddy “had to look in the mirror like never before” while behind bars and admitted that “pain” became his teacher. 

“The scene and images of me assaulting Cassie play over and over in my head daily,” he wrote. “I literally lost my mind. I was dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman that I loved. I’m sorry for that and always will be. My domestic violence will always be a heavy burden that I will have to forever carry. The remorse, the sorrow, the regret, the disappointment, the shame.

“I honestly feel sorry for something that I couldn’t forgive someone else for: if they put their hands on one of my daughters. This is why it is so hard for me to forgive myself. It is like a deep wound that leaves an ugly scar.”

After making it to the elevator lobby, the singer-songwriter testified, Diddy assaulted her. The rapper could be seen dragging Cassie down the hotel hallway in surveillance footage that was shown to the jury and previously released to the public in 2024.

“I can’t change the past, but I can change the future,” Diddy wrote. “I know that God put me here to transform me. Since incarceration, I have gone through a spiritual reset. I’m on a journey that will take time and hard work. I’m proud to say I’m working harder than I ever have before. 

“I’m committed to the journey of remaining a drug free, non-violent and peaceful person. I thank God that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear and sober. God makes no mistakes. I realize that this trial has received a tremendous amount of global press and Your Honor may be inclined to make an example out of me.

“I would ask Your Honor to make me an example of what a person can do if afforded a second chance. If you allow me to go home to my family, I promise I will not let you down and I will make you proud.”

Diddy could spend a maximum of 20 years behind bars, 10 years for each count he was convicted of. The prosecution recommended 135 months (just over 11 years) for his sentencing.

Judge Subramanian rejected Diddy’s request for a new trial and the rapper’s demand for an acquittal days before his scheduled sentencing.

The federal judge said the prosecution provided “overwhelming evidence” of Diddy’s guilt on the charges of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Voters claim Democrat faked address in key Virginia race that could flip House

A new court filing claims a Democratic candidate for a hotly contested, GOP-held Virginia House of Delegates seat doesn’t live in the district she seeks to represent, a dispute that could shape control of the chamber in 2026.

Three voters in Stafford County went to court to allege candidate Stacey Carroll does not live in District 64 and instead in the neighboring, Democratic-majority 23rd and want her booted from the ballot.

Plaintiffs Stephen Schwartz, Judith Anne Parker and Juliet Schweiter alleged Carroll continues to live near US-1 in Aquia, Virginia, at the southern edge of the 23rd district but filed to run for office from an address about 7 miles southwestward near Stafford Court House, Virginia, in the 64th.

Local residents are asking the court to throw out Carroll’s voter registration at the Stafford address, which they argue would disqualify her from the ballot.

That address is reportedly registered to another family, and a 1966 Virginia court ruling puts the burden of proof-of-residency on the voter registrant or ballot applicant, according to The Virginia Mercury.

While a seemingly local matter, the result of the case could have wide-ranging implications for the final tally on Election Day as all 100 House of Delegates seats are up for grabs. And Democrats achieved the rare accomplishment of running candidates in all of them, including reliably Republican seats in far-flung rural regions like St. Charles, Big Stone Gap and Tazewell.

If her candidacy stands, Carroll will face Republican Del. Paul Milde of Stafford in a district that narrowly went for President Donald Trump in 2024 by just under two points.

If she is found to truly live in Aquia, her home district seat would be that of Democratic Del. Candi King of Prince William, a much safer and more suburban seat that went for former Vice President Kamala Harris by about 66-31.

A tie loses in the House of Delegates, meaning Republicans need only three seats to win back the majority but cannot afford to lose tight races like Milde’s.

Carroll’s chances of flipping Milde’s seat give Republicans an additional roadblock in their quest to take back the chamber.

They are also fielding other tightly contested races, including in Hampton Roads.

Del. A.C. Cordoza, R-Poquoson, is the only Black Republican in the chamber and represents a district Harris narrowly won.

Republicans are laser focused on the seat, and Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and lieutenant gubernatorial candidate John Reid have all stumped for Cordoza.

Like exurban Stafford, Hampton Roads is perennially competitive. Democrats tend to have the edge in state races, while Republicans, such as incumbent Rep. Jennifer Kiggans, often prevail in federal contests.

Earle-Sears shocked the area in 2001 by winning a routinely Democratic-held seat in Virginia Beach, launching her into the commonwealth’s political conscience.

Several other seats in the region, which also includes Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, Chesapeake and Isle of Wight, are seen as potential pickups for the opposing party.

Reid’s race is also expected to weigh heavily on Republicans’ chances of controlling Richmond beyond the governor’s seat.

While Democrats control the upper chamber, Earle-Sears is statutorily the tie-breaking vote.

Divided similarly to the House, the Senate’s partisan future may hang in the balance depending on whether Reid can defeat state Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, D-Chesterfield.

Reid would break ties in favor of Republicans, meaning they only need to win back two more Senate seats. Hashmi would do the opposite, meaning the GOP would need three.

Apple drops ICEBlock App after AG Bondi’s warning over officer safety

FIRST ON FOX: Apple dropped ICEBlock, a widely used tracking tool, from its App Store on Thursday after the Department of Justice raised concerns with the big tech giant that the app put law enforcement officers’ safety at risk.

DOJ officials, at the direction of Attorney General Pam Bondi, asked Apple to take down ICEBlock from its App Store, a move that comes as Trump administration officials have claimed the tracking tool puts law enforcement officers in danger and helps shield illegal immigrants.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Bondi confirmed the department contacted Apple to pull the app on Thursday and that the company complied.

“We reached out to Apple today demanding they remove the ICEBlock app from their App Store — and Apple did so,” Bondi said. “ICEBlock is designed to put ICE agents at risk just for doing their jobs, and violence against law enforcement is an intolerable red line that cannot be crossed. This Department of Justice will continue making every effort to protect our brave federal law enforcement officers, who risk their lives every day to keep Americans safe.”

Controversy surrounding ICE tracking apps intensified after last month’s deadly shooting at an ICE field office in Dallas, the latest in a series of attacks that appeared to be targeted at immigration enforcement officers.

Authorities said the suspect, Joshua Jahn, searched his phone for tracking apps, including ICEBlock, before opening fire on the facility from a rooftop. Authorities said Jahn killed one detainee and left two critically injured but that the immigrants were not his intended targets. One of the injured, a 32-year-old husband and father of four, died this week.

Marcos Charles, an acting director for ICE’s removal operations, said during a press conference that Jahn had intended to murder ICE employees and that attacks on them have skyrocketed.

“The evidence is clear that this was intended as an assault on ICE personnel who come to work everyday to do their job,” Charles said. “Violent rhetoric has led to an over 1000% increase in assaults on ICE officers and it has to stop.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Apple and ICEBlock for comment.

Apple said in a statement that it removed ICEBlock and other apps like it.

“We created the App Store to be a safe and trusted place to discover apps. Based on information we’ve received from law enforcement about the safety risks associated with ICEBlock, we have removed it and similar apps from the App Store,” Apple said.

Joshua Aaron, the app’s creator, said he was “incredibly disappointed by Apple’s actions today.”

“Capitulating to an authoritarian regime is never the right move,” Aaron said. “Apple has claimed they received information from law enforcement that ICEBlock served to harm law enforcement officers. This is patently false.”

Aaron said ICEBlock functions like other mapping applications that use crowd sourcing for speed traps, citing Apple’s own map service as an example.

“We are determined to fight this with everything we have,” Aaron said. “Our mission has always been to protect our neighbors from the terror this administration continues to reign down on the people of this nation.”

Riley Gaines announced the birth of her first child, a daughter named Margot, Thursday night. 

Gaines announced the birth in a post on social media, showing her holding the baby alongside her husband, Louis Barker. 

“There’s nothing that could’ve prepared me for a love like this. God has blessed us beyond belief. Welcome to the world, sweet Margot,” Gaines wrote in the caption.

Cracker Barrel parts ways with Prophet after failed logo sparks widespread backlash

Cracker Barrel is ending its partnership with Prophet, the consulting firm behind its failed rebrand.

The chain faced intense backlash after unveiling a new logo and redesigned stores that longtime fans said stripped away what they loved most about the brand.

Cracker Barrel’s restaurants, long known for their kitschy Americana decor, were recast in a style critics called drab and soulless.

The uproar grew after the company dropped its iconic logo of an elderly man leaning on a barrel.

A March press release said Prophet was hired to redesign Cracker Barrel restaurants and lead a new brand marketing campaign.

This new strategy will inform brand communication, restaurant redesigns, brand marketing campaigns and a redefined employee value proposition.”

Separately, Prophet CEO Michael Dunn pledged $4 million in 2020 for the firm’s DEI initiatives, saying the company would “bring in Black team members across every level of the firm,” hire a DEI-specific recruiter and provide $4 million in pro bono work to social justice organizations, according to a 2020 blog post.

Fox News Digital found no evidence that Prophet’s DEI commitments were connected to Cracker Barrel’s rebranding.

In August, the brand unveiled its new logo, which dropped the illustration of a man, “Uncle Herschel,” resting his arm on top of a wooden barrel, a folksy image that has embodied the brand’s Southern hospitality for the last 56 years. Some interpreted the change as an appeal to the woke movement.

The logo change sparked backlash that wiped over $140 million off the chain’s market value at the height of the crisis as customer outrage and investor unease fueled what became the steepest losing streak in months. Shares are down over 7% year-to-date.

President Donald Trump even weighed in, calling on the chain to return to its roots.

Later that day, Cracker Barrel reversed its plans.

“We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain,” the company posted on X.

In May, Cracker Barrel, beloved for its Southern comfort food, front porch rocking chairs and gift shop filled with knickknacks and old-fashioned sweets, launched an ambitious overhaul of its 660-plus restaurants, an effort that quickly backfired.

The sweeping makeover included “decluttered” dining rooms, a revamped menu and other changes aimed at updating a brand long rooted in nostalgia.

‘Antifascist’ law student defies university policy with American flag burning tailgate

An antifascist student says they will hold an “Antifascist Tailgate” party on the University of Virginia campus Friday evening, where participants will burn American flags in response to a recent executive order by President Donald Trump.

According to a flyer advertising the event, the demonstration is scheduled from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in a university parking lot ahead of the UVA volleyball game. The flyer, which depicts an American flag on a grill, promotes “hot dogs and burning flags.”

The flyer drew wider attention after White House rapid response strategist Greg Price shared it on X.

Kirk Wolff, a University of Virginia Law School student and U.S. Navy veteran, circulated the flyer in a UVA law school group chat, inviting classmates to attend. He also attached a message titled, “Why I am Burning the Flag.”

Wolff later confirmed to Fox News Digital that he organized the event on behalf of an unofficial group called the Friends Against Fascism Organization, or FAFO.

In a statement, Wolff, who said he is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, argued the flag burning was not an act of disrespect but a symbolic protest against what he described as Trump’s unlawful attempts to undermine democracy, chill dissent and overstep executive authority.

“The president does not get to say what the law is; that is solely the province of the judiciary,” he said. 

“He must be reminded that his political enemies are not military enemies, and that he cannot stop free speech, expression, and democracy,” his statement continued. “Many of us, including myself, signed the dotted line and agreed to fight for these ideals. The actions this president has taken, between deploying troops to “war zone” cities and planning to use the military against dissenters who he terms the “enemy within” are far more disrespectful to the sacrifices of current and former service members than any flag burning, which has long been settled as protected speech. The president does not get to overturn that precedent with an EO, and his attempts to intimidate dissenters and chill speech is disgraceful. The true desecration of our flag has come from the Oval Office.”

University of Virginia Law School officials told Fox News Digital that Friends Against Fascism Organization is not an official student group and no approval was granted for the demonstration.

“‘Friends Against Fascism'” is not an official student organization at UVA or the UVA School of Law and we have not received any request nor granted approval for an event of this nature,” A UVA spokesperson said in a statement. “University officials are looking into the post to determine its legitimacy.”

The spokesperson added that people affiliated with the university may freely engage in expressive activity “in certain public spaces without approval, as long as they do so in a manner consistent with all relevant University policies and federal, state and local laws.”

The protest comes after Trump in August signed an executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to prosecute those who violate laws “in ways that involve desecrating the flag,” and to pursue litigation that would clarify the scope of the First Amendment as it relates to flag desecration.

In her other photos, she shared the menu from Hotel Esencia’s Beefbar restaurant, palm trees against a cloudy night sky, turtles swimming in shallow water and one of her waving while paddleboarding in the same bikini with a matching sarong.
