LIVE Ukraine fires British Storm Shadow missiles into Russia for first time

Ukraine has used British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles in Russia for the first time.

The Telegraph understands that residents in the village of Marino, Kursk, found fragments from a Storm Shadow missile on Wednesday

Footage showed locals picking up debris from the long-range missiles along a tree-lined street in the village in the Russian border region.

The use of Storm Shadow missiles comes after Russia launched a counteroffensive in Kursk, which was invaded by Ukrainian troops in August. 

Ukraine was given Storm Shadow and other Western long-range missiles last year but were not allowed to fire them into Russia.

Joe Biden gave Ukraine the green light to use US-made long-range missiles inside Russia earlier this week, paving the way for restrictions to be lifted on the UK’s Storm Shadows.

Kyiv first used Atacms missiles to strike a military facility in Bryansk 110km from the Ukrainian border.

Vladimir Putin responded by lowering the threshold for firing nuclear weapons at Ukraine and its allies.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday Mr Biden wanted to “prolong” and “escalate” the war by providing Ukraine with Atacms and anti-personnel mines.
